BBC Presenter SCANDAL: "I Know Who It Is" - Kevin O'Sullivan and Nigel Pauley On The Latest Update

well as a national guessing game going on at the moment uh who is this top BBC star and sex pics Pro massive story on the front of the sun uh the BBC apparently is in turmoil it is we are told a very very major name uh so uh uh the anonymity that this person enjoys so far they don't think will last and when you all find out who it is uh you will be astonished trust me uh now it's time to talk about this with uh media commentator it's the top BBC style it's suspended uh well-known presenter is accused of giving a teenager a 17 year old more than 35 000 pounds since they were 17 in return for sordid sex pictures sorted images uh now the this teenager's mother who Furious and says that when I see him on telly I feel sick let's talk to Media commentator Nigel Paulie hello Nigel afternoon Kevin yeah go on this is quite a bit this is a massive story isn't it it's uh bizarre how the BBC have got themselves into this mess yet again because I've I've seen all day major stars coming out and saying it's not me so you've had uh Jeremy Vine Rylan and various other people have had to go out because they're all being named as being the major star well or it's been speculated that is it well yeah it's been speculative I mean if you're trending on Twitter if you look on Twitter there are three famous BBC names on the side of Twitter and radio too so you know the BBC you've got to be innocent until proven guilty yeah but there's this what you don't see in this story that's interesting you don't know whether it's it's a child you don't know whether it's a boy or a girl it's um the age thing is is 17 they're now uh it's about 20 I think so it's 5 000 pounds in cash it's the fact that pictures were coming from the start at work now it's very significantly also says they're currently off air now I think off air could be off radio as well as off television personally I think I think I I I know who it is yeah well I know it is I'm so I'm not going to say anything but uh uh uh um so yeah we we know we both know who it is but we're not going to be saying anything because legally we can't say anything but you know so we'll specular speculate them do what we have to do but the basic point is this is yet another Scandal for the BBC yeah it's yet another instance where someone who's vulnerable and we've had the Scofield issue with ITV the vulnerable youngster who was whose life was ruined uh by um by being involved with a star now there's nothing wrong with the BBC I mean the BBC with its background of covering up this kind of thing they they tend to cover up that was their uh knee-jerk response to all potential scandals was to batten down the hatches quite try and keep it a secret that's what they did uh with Martin Bashir and the way he calmed Princess Diana we didn't find out that they'd covered that up for 25 years that's what they did with Jimmy Savile uh they uh covered up for him uh so I would suggest that after those scandals which continue to be cast a dark cloud over the state broadcaster but in this respect on this story they'll be very transparent and extremely vigilant that's right I I'm I can't see how they can just not not at least say that someone has been suspended while this is going on because in any other workplace unless you're in local government you are named if you're suspended if you remember the CPI guy and various other people their names are put out there and politicians and also the army so you know the army people have been and the Red Arrows so if you look at the fact that that you can't if you meant to be on television or radio or wherever and you're suddenly not well that's going to be interesting but the other point of view is you are having all your other stars being damned by suspicion just because people don't like certain people their names are being connected to this so you've got a duty of care for the rest of your staff that who are facing horrendous stuff on social media over this but also you've got a duty of care to the person who's made this place this isn't just the sex scandal this is someone paying a youngster who is a drug addict I'm getting the hooked on cracker and paying for their crack cocaine if this story is true uh on the front if it's true if it's true uh and as I say no names involved but I I I and a lot of other people know the name that is being bandied about uh but if the story is true then the BBC uh is going to have to navigate itself through a Minefield and it must behave utterly impeccably on this because in the past it has made the most appalling hashes of these scandals and come out uh you know it covered in the brown stuff so this time it must get this right mustn't it it must and it started out because I think a lot of people said oh the sun has done this and and it was dismissed but the BBC very quickly confirmed the sun's story so I don't think we you know they've confirmed that that the allegations are known to the BBC and that someone has been taken from the air so therefore I think we can we can say that the allegations have been taken seriously bearing in mind this has come from the parents I mean the thing with Schofield he worked to ITV uh and the child the person was was older when he was working there but that there was no hints in that that he was paying him money or paying the guy money all that there was a the sort of sleazy drugs element here this this shocking story is you know yes you're sending money to someone to say show us your bits but also the person clearly was vulnerable because whatever was going on they were they were addicted to drugs and the people I mean there was a 5 000 pound payment allegedly made into a bank account well they're talking about 35 000. over a number five years allegedly again that's a lot of money bank account yeah but the BBC first of all as I just said it's going to have to behave impeccably in the way it handles this Scandal because it's always made a mess of it in the past uh but even if it does tread this path uh you know uh diligently and carefully and correctly it'll still be a very bad day for the BBC that this is what this is the sort of thing one of its major Stars gets up to it is and it's going to be fairly shocking because I think that the dam is going to burst on this and and you know yes there is dark speculation but but the fact is this name will come out that there is a question of whether police will be involved whether the age thing of depending on was a man or a mate a female or or a male uh child whether the age thing and the payment thing for the for the pawn was was legal there are lots of things there but there's a reputational damage some would say the BBC hasn't got much of a reputation they've done a good job of destroying his own reputation but bearing in mind if this is a well-known well-loved figure which a lot of the people who've involved in this you've got Jimmy Savile Philip Schofield and Rolf Harris by the way let's stress by the way we don't even know uh whether this star is a male or a female at this level as I say I know the name in the frame and so do quite a few people in the media if it is that person this is going to be massive it could it it it doesn't say that uh we don't know this a male or female I thought the mother in the story said that every time she sees him yeah yeah she has yeah you're right I stand corrected so I think we can assume it's a bloke you're right the mother says this well we don't do anything about gender anymore Kevin yeah well you know what I mean according to the mother it's clearly a black building to the mother it's a he yeah every time she sees him yeah yeah so she knows what she knows who she's talking about so she I stand corrected on that it's a bloke uh however as I say if it's the bloke that I've been told it is this is going to be a massive problem for the BBC trust me yes and um it's something the BBC doesn't want but the fact yeah you should say that again but the fact the fact is it's quite shocking that this could go on again on BBC funded property because there was pictures look BBC funded Peggy was going out into that yeah they're going to have to be very very hard lying about it I I don't know the chronology of this but my guess is that uh the BBC probably didn't even know about this till yesterday uh unless the mother had complained for I don't know but I think the sun the Sun have got in touch with the BBC and the BBC have gone into overdrive immediately suspending the person in question yeah I I I think from what I gather and I may be wrong as as you just were you know because we all hear different things I understood that the first claims of this were made to the BBC or attention was drawn to them yeah uh in last month yeah I get that so mother complained but I think I think it's the it's the but there's son's involvement as as galvanized the BBC into action yeah I think became fair to say that the mother went to the sun because as you said the BBC covered things up well it's been about six weeks and she obviously felt nothing was happening at the BBC and the person was still on screen therefore she went to the sun the sun wrote the paper and it drew the BBC out now you said the BBC have got to be transparent I would suggest they have to be but the fact that they tried to cover this up for six weeks by not doing anything causing the mother to go to the Sun to try and cause this you know to be brought out because she was so concerned which is yes the BBC reverted to yeah well if if they've done that they're going to be in trouble it'll be a same old story from the BBC great to talk to you uh Nigel as always thanks mate thanks for your time
