this is one of the things that you're so known about is your ability to okay let's not look at the punches per se let's let's look at the the position the base your your ability to move uh and this is actually a video from your YouTube channel funnily enough um working with Coach Mike uh coach shout out for Coach Mike no different here's why if I'm if I'm fighting coach Mike Stuart I cringe when I watch myself right I do I cringe I hate watching myself but this is uh I know where we're going over here we're going over here how uh at range you don't need to step in every time with your jab you see the guy stepping in here too far the taller guy he gets caught but we everybody does that again no Linguistics we kind of do that on automatic one of the first things everybody gets on the gym is step in with your jab son step in this like uh actually it's not always cool to step in with your jab so I think that's what we're going over there and then I start talking about the tire and why we use it to try to get that muscle memory where you're not thinking about am I going actually left or am I going forward into the left yeah I remember this clip very well so again you know this master in agility then look is is this is is here on the site and and again you know it's sometimes it's a bit of a toss-up for me which which one I I recommend first you know if I go how it's supposed to be obviously it's it's reactive mates but it's it's it's kind of like a chicken it's kind of like you're like well actually you can kind of start with Eva and um for me I always say reactive it's just because I think it's helpful to understand again where you started the growth the language and and we used to it yeah and we assume that they they know that before this one so I do always say reactive bits but I do think like mastering agility is is the one that people go to first most the time when they when they kind of follow you and they go oh okay agility this is this is the thing I mean I mean this is this was I remember this volume has been a a big passion something you really wanted to do I mean I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing with you because I think initially right let's call them tedious drills boring drills let's call them what they are they're not the most exciting drills they're not the most fun and I have a message to everybody watching this right now this is mastering agility tutorial idea you guys go ask any fighter that I've ever worked with even the most stubborn fighter and ask them what I start them with world champion or not [Music] so when I'm walking this is what happens naturally if this is my fighting stance I start with if I start walking on a human level I'm already you know it's coming out of fighting stance right so I really want to use the sensor of this whether you put the mitt down or you have a human inside I want to use this as my reference for my foot and my shoulder so when I come around I want to come around or not on a human level but on the Combat Sports level now I'm coming over and finally said notice I'm not crossing over my feet okay and that's important because that means I'm always in stance I'm always ready to what defend okay okay I'm always ready to defend or do something once I come out of my fighting stance we're in a rock from soccer kind of situation okay all right coach my use about it now I'll stay here look okay so now what we're gonna do during this drill is like I showed you guys walking left really essential same thing when you're walking right I want to actually give some details really quick before we go into the drill when I walk right let's say I'm in my stance remember my stance the boxing stance remember like we told you guys in the beginning your stance is your stance you don't have to change your stance I'm just generally always going to be in The Stance when I walk to my right look what happens the same thing when like we carry and this wants to square the same thing when I walk right here my body thinks I'm going right I am going right but look at me I didn't Square it up so it's really important that you I like to tell all my students to fight for the position and this is what I mean you know your shoulder and foot has to be in line so I literally got to be deliberate about how I come around so that I'm always in position to defend and be offensive so the drill that we're going to do now to work on a kick again boxing for kickboxing boxing for Muay Thai boxing for MMA is a simple agility drill and the way we'll start that is I'm going to instruct because remember the main argument and I won't go too deep into it what we'll do is we won't talk about it today we're going to drill it and show you how to get these things out of your system and how if you're going to go to the left or right that or to check your kick is a simple Act of raising your leg and checking the kick okay so what I'm going to do is I'm going to have Coach Mike walk to his left in his fighting stance I'm going to instruct him though that because he's in kickboxing Muay Thai MMA that as he's walking to his left he is to be checking kicks at all time but keep moving but keep moving the entire time I don't care if he uh honestly I want really want him to check a ton of kicks to the legs but if he wants to walk and check hits to the Head too great great the more the better but what am I really looking for look for two things as a boxing coach I'm looking at his feet don't cross okay and I'm looking at he has the agility understand it's so beautiful that he has the agility to be able to do multiple things to walk left catch kicks and do different things okay so that's what when he's walking left or right his job is going to be to check as many kicks as possible now you want to give yourself a number for the round Mike should be looking to check Dodie kicks this round you figure you have a three minutes round you know if he's walking to his right that's one that's two that's three and he's still walking so you already checked three kicks so it's not impossible ass to check 30 kicks in a round only thing as a coach I'm gonna do is I'm gonna say walk left walk right I'll tell him to jab or I'll tell him to T and his only job is that when he finishes doing the job you say oh when he's Japanese jabbing on the move when he keeps he has to stop the team but as soon as he finish he's gonna move and that's his agility not that he gets stuck oh what do I do but he's able to move okay so let's give this a shot and see how it goes walk left can you pick up the page we're good and don't forget check kicks on your own yeah exactly it's gonna be weird don't forget Shake kicks yeah let me tell you see go take off walk right just just walk good beautiful jab Jab you need to do two Jabs to the right good t watch left beautiful then you keep them both feet I've gotta walk right down G AP fourth letter t beautiful Japan so as you guys can see now you should start to feel confident that if you've done three months of drilling like this I have I have a saying I like to say they attack first but we arrive first um and I won't get too deep inside but let's just say you can invite please sir please what do you want to talk please kick me please don't kick because I know as a coach I'm confident he's trying to be confident you know what I did a drill every drill I did I stepped forwards backwards I checked 30 kicks I sat down I did this uh checking kicks please and please store kick I invite please so when we do drills like this these drills give us the repetitions to be able to fight not just forwards and backwards left and right okay and these are important rudiments um uh when you think about rudiments people rudiments is a word I get from musicians and drummers drummers have rudiments what are rudiments rudiments is a drummer needs to be able to do a single stroke with his right hand a single stroke with his left hand he needs to be able to do that stroke with a big distance for sound he needs to be able to do a soft he needs to be able to do a double stroke he needs to be able to do a paradiddle a Flim Flam he needs to be able to do all those movement equally with his mom left hand is right hand loud or soft you've never heard a drummer go ah Jazz I can't play that the side of my realm Rock uh be difficult because they have rudiments they can do everything so now you can imagine our rudiments for boxing boxing for more time box if you made box of kickboxing these are our rudiments because now we're never in a situation that goes ah damn I need to fight this guy going backwards but I don't got that in my system you know I need to get go to my left on this guy because he had a strong left hook so I don't want to be stubborn so you need to if you have the more rudiments you have and the more things you could do the more options you have of course remember when you guys are doing drills how do I want to do this drill and think about this
