teams looking to pick up their first win of the season after a tough start to the season as barnesville was knocked off by west central area by a score 14-12 and crookson was shut out by josephus 27-0 yeah that was certainly a tough loss for uh barnesville i don't i don't think you know i talked to a few of the barnesville families and they were kind of looking at me like did we really lose that game and yeah yes yes they did i mean it's proof that even the quote unquote invincible teams can be beaten so you know that we will see what crookston brings to the field tonight but uh we'll get would fall by a two-digit uh deficit 14 to 12 in favor of the knights would be the final score in that game the the uh quarterback for the barnesville trojans has some big shadows to fill i guess you could say maybe shoes is the better word it's graduated uh senior ex-senior quarterback adam tonsfeld who started for the trojans for what seemed like the longest time in every single game and now noah krauss will step in and try and pick up the first win here at home it's been a while since barnesville's lost at home according to our research it was about four years ago when the holly nuggets would knock off the trojans here at the barnesville athletic complex since that game they hadn't lost and prior to that loss to holly a long time ago they hadn't lost in a long time either at home and well our our officials today are going to be greg wall joel calorin matt fichner and sean hewitt and then the guy in the white hat will be jeff figner who is the head coach of the post 400 stars the legion baseball team that magnitude covers in the summer they made it down to the american legion world series in shelby north carolina and i got a text from their president jeff gould and he's like ask ask jeff if it's warmer here in barnesville tonight than it was in shelby and his follow-up question was if the post 400 hat is more comfortable than the white hat he's wearing so jeff when you come back and watch this later you can uh you can comment your answers to that and we'll relay him back to jeff for you and mike i gotta ask you that would be quite the trip going to shelby for the american legion world series i'm gonna put you on the spot a little bit what was that like what was that experience covering the post 400 stars the well covering the team you know it it's a roller coaster you know you you get paid to quote cheer for a team i guess and when the team doesn't win until the end of the season and then they go to the world series that and that makes the little things darren zerman and enrique julian the trojans defensive starting lineup look like this starting as a junior number three aaron baker starting at linebacker is number four noah krauss he's a senior starting in the defensive mount number 11 peyton pounder starting a defensive back for freshman number 20 braden bredman starting a defense back number 29 the senior campaign starting at a linebacker the broadcast tonight as well as defensive end logan yes head coach brian stern the veteran head coach for this barnesville team kind of took one a little bit of a shocker last week dropping a 14-12 decision to west central area it might be one of those type of games mike you look at a program that's been at the top a little bit like barnesville has it might be one of those wake-up calls and we'll see how they bounce back tonight yo i have this this suspicion that they will bounce back i i have this feeling that that loss bothers them uh to what degree it bothers them i cannot say for sure but i can say that it bothers them to the extent that you they're going to come out here and play tonight and then they're not going to make it easy for crookstons you touch on in your pre-game opening this is a very tough place to play for the opposition yeah and we'll see if that continues to be the trend tonight you look on the other side of the thing crookston couldn't really get much going against a solid wizard's team losing 27-0 they're under a new head coach as we said and scott butt but they did not get much going in that loss he was across defense really shut them down ethan bull led the backfield with 28 rushing yards jack doughnut had 43 yards passing and that was about it the only mess three first downs on offense punted about five times but despite those uh meager offensive stats they only trailed 12-0 yeah at the half so stingy defense on their side yeah no and and and you you alluded to it there they they may not have scored they are wait i'm thinking of the wrong team here but [Laughter] because barnesville did score in that one but yeah you know it does like you said it comes down to a mistake or two and sometimes those mistake or twos can cause you can cost you a point and sometimes that point can be very can sting uh and and that's exactly what happened it was a two-point stinger a double stinger last friday night on the road at west central areas the knights i'm pretty sure i i don't know off the top of my head who they're playing this week but i'm guessing that they're playing uh they're playing staples motley so i'm going to guess that they're going to go into that game with hey we beat barnesville we can beat anybody and we'll take a quick talk chat quickly about the midwest division standings the white division holly leads the way i want to know zacchaeus west central area and staples motley all one and old overall on the season barnesville crooks and pillager behind all in one right there staples motley last week earned a 22-16 victory for wadena-deer creek in overtime we talked a little bit about jose construction game and holly defeated pillager 22-0 next week barnesville's got another tough one on tap when they take on pelican rapids they're under a new head coach eli beachy and his dad ryan beach at the office a new coordinator for pelican rapids put up some big points in their opening win under underwood so not trying to look too far ahead but that's going to be another tough test coming up before marshall as well yeah i believe that's a home game from barnesville correct yeah so we'll have that one here and of all the football games i've done in minnesota pelican rapids as close as they are to our home office i've never seen their football team play so that will be a treat next friday night here at the and mike thanks for having me on board tonight for what should be because i know you wanted to come to this game but as you can see there's no place to sit so i had to put you in the press box it should be a fun one as the introduction's taking place right now the pirates being introduced to the ground here number four jack donald will be the starting quarterback junior [Music] you already know you're kind of an uphill battle you just got to eliminate the mistakes and have a strong game and do a nice job of battling the trenches and a lot of games won inside the paint in the battle and those trenches between both teams tonight and that's gonna be a key i think if you're crooks you need to have a good start there and get something if you're crooks in defense you start on defense barnesville get the ball to start so if you're crooks and you want to get a quick stop get some momentum building on your side yeah you definitely need to this can't turn into like a one-dimensional game it can't be just passing it can't be just running there crookson's going to need a nice mix of both in order to put some spark into their offense and put some uh put some put a threat against the barnesville trojans we'll put it that way and if you're barnesville you're coming off you know you're hungry after that tough two-point red central area and more in that game is turnovers in the red zone really hurt the trojans so you want to finish those drives and put up a big crooked number early and now the barnesville trojans will get set to come out had that for as many football games as i can remember doing here well they do a nice job of making it a big event here in barnesville large crowd on hand here on the bardville sideline [Music] which they're not used to seeing that result from last week yeah that's definitely true number three i heard the word adam and i was thinking something else that linebacker introduction's taking place right now here on the barnesville cynics pregame show [Music] a lot of energy tonight here from barnesville and their home opener and that always ends another level of uh energy and intensity when it's your home opener and you throw into the fact that you're playing in front of a packed house where last year yeah the trojans were seven and oh but they didn't get the opportunity to play in front of many of the big crowds through the uh last year if you remember uh jason uh the mshsl said no fans and then the morning of the first volleyball game they decided to allow two people per participant well the barnesville football team had 63 people on it so about 120 people were here so which was still yeah under the philippine 19 rules at that time there was a lot you saw we're navigating that but it's kind of nice now as we're getting closer to normal with the full crowd here on the barnesville sideline crookston traveled well as well on the far side as we get ready for this contest as you can see one of the things that's reading about this barnesville squad as i talked about that battle in the trenches they got size and they have ability and legit and agility inside the trenches that's definitely going to come to their advantage here as we're getting ready to go for the rats opening kickoff as crookson will be kicking off as barnesville huddles on the field to get ready to go once again your officials for this evening's game gary wohl joel killer in matt fichner sean hewitt and the guy in the white hat jeff fichner and i want to say hi to dan and phil phil says he'll defer his questions to other people and dan says that's awesome he wants to know what kind of t-shirt he's wearing underneath that zebra stripe so so we'll we'll uh thank you for sending in those comments my friends personally and uh and uh and now we'll we'll let jeff uh we'll cut him a little slack so throughout the game restrictions ready to go they'll be going right to left martinsville getting ready here in their home purple with black pants brayden bredman and cam hang will be back to receive the kick kick coming from brooks butts kicking up for crutch then number 61 bro we apologize for any comments i might come through our uh we're on your way with the rats opening kickoff here along the near sideline will be picked up that's hang with it cuts up the head to the 20 breaks a couple tackles drives forward to about the 26 yard line and that's where the trojans will start up and if you can't make it to the game watch the game at rachel's pool hall in barnesville dean's box service will show zero zeros are getting ready for opening possession of the game for the trojans on first and ten at their own 26-yard line they'll start on the right hash 11 kickoff taking six seconds off the clock and well they ran the t formation a lot last year i didn't see him play last week as uh most of our barnesville fans probably didn't get a good chance to see him if they didn't go to the game either but uh we'll see if they run that offense here or not carl center center handoff left side getting to the corner it's a nice run there's number 20 and that's brayden breton with a nice car there he gets to about the 34 yard line nice pick up on first down we'll bring up second and shorts for the trojans and we've got an injury here on the near side for crookston hopping up there for the pirates of jacob hesby he will run off under his own power which is a good thing to see it'll be second in short for the trojans second and two it's always a good sign when the player gets to the sideline before the medical facility catches up to him being on the left side now the hash krosi under center again once again team formation the max behind crows handoff near side nothing doing actually to the left side yeah so no they got you just like they got me last year but we had the camera on it don't feel bad there you'll get used to it by about midway through that first quarter but it's good for a first down ethan larson getting the handoff brings up first and ten for the trojans clock continues run here in our opening quarter gonna be first in ten they'll call it at the 36-yard line grouse under center again three backs behind him handoff coming here on the near side given the outside hang hanging to the corner cuts up fields 45 to the 50. gets a couple of blocks cuts back at the 40 and gets through a couple tackling brought down at about the 30 three yard line a nice run by hang he got through the corner and caught up field had a nice cuts there through the pirate defense deep into pirates territory now at the 33 yard line already first attempt yeah well he got those one or two blocks that he needed coming around the corner and he pretty much did the rest by himself kind of stuttering stutter step weaving through defenders and he did most that by himself but it all started with those couple blocks early krause on the right half sucks over the defense now will hand it off getting the handoff of that time andrew peterson cuttings off breaks a couple of tackles into the red zone and he is in to the endzone four touchdown [Applause] andrew peterson goes 32 yards [Applause] and just like that the trojans lead 6-0 and that's what we're used to seeing from the trojans and like it like we said on a couple of occasions in our pregame show here they're they're looking to get back that what they lost down the road in week one and they certainly have showed it so far here on this first drive a 32-yard scamper by peterson puts the trojans on the board early and isaac mandeville will try the barnesville trojans more of what they're used to seeing and it was capped off on a big run by andrew peterson sent up by a nice run by cam hang as well yeah and really like you said it was a great drive but the only thing that went wrong was the snap on the extra point attempt so you know if that's the only thing they need to improve on that first drive i'd say they're in pretty good shape here quick drive there for the trojans they lead 6-0 now isaac maddie will get ready to kick off back for the pirates is brady whisk as well as ethan bull for the pirates they're back at their own fox mandeville with a nice kick to the far side of the field sliding up unable to field that one that's now picked up and a couple of cuts there and finally brought down on the plays brady wisk on the far side pirates will set up shop at about the 19-yard line johnny roberto there on the tackle for barnesville by the pirates number 25 brady whiskey well we'll see uh what the pirates have in them to respond here and and now we'll get a look at the uh barnesville defense too is uh this is the first possession of the game here for the pirates 6-0 on the dean's box service scoreboard trojans leading on a touchdown run by andrew peterson now dona will come out he's got one receiver split wide to the right backs tonight formation looking over the defense drops back fires the pass near his far side it's counting he's hit right away bringing the boom on the hit there was cam hang donuts reception a positive play for crookston as they pick up five but cameron hang there with the big tackle and they'll bring up uh well pretty much uh let's see about a second and five maybe second and a long five dota again back under center one receiver split wide right backs to the knight formation behind him under center both teams own one looking for win number one they send the man in motion coming to the near side handoff in the flag driving forward on the plays bowl there's a play on the play short of the first down we'll see what the call is well our first penalty of the home portion of the season here and mr jeff fichner will give us the official call here in just a moment that's against the parents it's illegal procedure that will back them up i'll bring them second and nine for the pirates and that's when we talked about the pre-game show for the pirates you can't have those type of mistakes against a team like barnesville yeah no you you pretty much uh you know and i don't want to like get too far ahead of ourselves it's the first home game of the season second game of the season but we we learned from experience over the past several seasons here that if you're gonna beat barnesville you can't make mistakes like that one receiver coming in motion to the near side bowl gets the hand off right side cuts outside breaks the tackle drives forward a nice powerful run there on the far side of the field yeah i'll be knocked out just shy of the 30 yard line right around that 27 28 yard line mark you'll bring up third down nice run there by you for the bull finally run out of bounds if i know what price on the play so they lost five on the penalty and now they get the five right back as it's third and four the ball spotted right at the 25 yard line pirates will break the huddle one receiver split right roll the deep back in the eye formation do it under center back looks right pump fakes now comes the run left now he's trying to run to the near side trying to get to the third he needs to cut out field doesn't i think it's brought down there coming across the field was aaron banker with a nice play baker wraps up donuts gonna be close to the first down pending on the spots it's gonna be a first down they give them the spots at the 30-yard line so it's a first down for the pirates they're able to overcome the penalty and extend that drive they're saying it's at the 29-yard line picked up just enough did dota here on the near side for the first down well already 15 on the plate clock and they still haven't broken the huddle here and we'll see how how quickly they can get to the line and they're down to seven seconds so it looks like they might have it some time here and well maybe not a question quick look and gets the snap off at one fakes the handoff rolls right looks to fire downfield the pass is intercepted picking that one off is peyton county [Applause] gets the interception for the trojans with the big pick there and the turnover gives it right back and that's the mistake the pirates need to avoid i know the trojans will have first and ten at the 39-yard line of crookston and 8 28 to go on the game clock first and ten for the trojans deformation krause is going to look to fire pass to the man wide open catching that as tayden inger and edgar gets another first down inside the bowl green construction red zone and that's a trojan mainline grill first down watch every first down with your friends at the main line in downer the nice pitch and catch from krause and it's first and ten at the 16 yard line in the bowl green construction red zone yeah i mean uh that other than the fact that barnesville's gaining yards uh the the crooks and defense uh doing a little bit better here uh on this particular drive down the field and that whistle uh is there a flag again there's a flag will be against the pirates redmond had the handoff and was looking to get to the front corner but the plane was blowing dead well and just as i said that they they do something to make me not not say that or i should maybe i shouldn't there's no doubt about it uh normally this is the type of score you see midway through the late part of the third quarter we're here in the early part of the second quarter right now donald set up shop his own 31 yard line with 10 minutes about to go in the second quarter fakes the pitch hands it off bull nothing doing maybe gets back to line and scrimmage but i think he loses a yard yeah it almost looked like he was about to lose the handle on the ball there and he had to focus on that before he could focus on proceeding forward and number 54 johnny number 84 remember seconds and 11 from the 30 for the pirates pirates are just trying to get something positive put together a nice drive keep the ball a little bit and keep it out of the trojans hands right now the trojans just you want to continue this for the most part mistake free football that they played tonight under center almost full of the snap but gets the handoff off the ball assuming they that was romero on the handoff number eight pirates get a little crumpled up under their chest protectors chess gear and it's kind of tough to see the numbers sometimes that's third yeah for the pirates one thing i like about the trolls uniforms is those bright whites jerseys on the purple trees are pretty easy to read from up here in the press box hint to a few other purple schools that you cannot read the numbers on two hanging takes a beautiful bounce if you're a pirate fan yeah no kidding inside the 20 and it'll be down there at about the 17-yard line so that one actually backs fires against the trojans yeah no that's uh that's definitely not what the trojans were hoping for when they accepted that penalty so but it is what it is so it'll be first tonight's for barnesville handoff comes back near side on the second hand off get into the corner that's breadman cuts up field brings down the defender as he gets brought down at the 45-yard line as brendan picks up another first down but there's a flag all the chance defensively with a big opportunity to make a stop here the penalties from the spot first and 19 from the nine with seven about seven minutes to go kraus leads his trojans to the line looks over the defense drops back a delay handoff unique play there was john roller trying some trickeration there did the trojans but did not work yeah i think there was a little miscommunication there i don't ending in a turnover and gives crooks in their best field position for the pirates now stop the clock with 6 14 to go here in the second quarter and a first and goal and the best starting field position you could ask for the pirate from the trojan 22 yard line at the 22-yard line for the pirates looking to capitalize like he talked about build on something positive now they have a interception to try to build off of the trojan defense but the first time backs against around enzo george weinman splits right up hand off the first round through gets maybe a yard on the play not much there in this trojan defensive line has just been stout tonight they've never done an outstanding and it'll be second down we'll call it nine from the 21. i gave knutson a yard high formation halftime show some scores of interest throughout the area tonight west central area ashby leads staples volley 34-0 onto the third quarter pelican rapids leads phrase 32-0 at the half and the eli beachy regime has started off strong and pelican rapids with 74 points early in the first two games for the pelican rapids vikings the perm yellow jackets and the thief river falls prowlers are tied at seven that one's heading into the fourth quarter as that one sat at seven and a couple other scores a lot of scores throughout the year we'll try to get some more updates as the night rolls on here in barnesville it's the trojans all over crookston 39-0 starting the scoring in that first quarter was a 32-yard touchdown run by andrew peterson it was followed by a 11-yard touchdown run by cam hang so we'll have a regular start start and stop actions in the first two quarters for the third quarter until further notice and we're ready to go here in quarter number three manifold kicked off and the pirates will get the ball first and that's bull has a nice knight returning fumbles that one recovers it gets the 25 drives forward and is brought down right there that'll be first and ten for the pirates to start the third quarter at about the 26 yard line that'll be first in 10 andrew peterson there on the tackle 26 yard line here for the pirates to try and get some get some get the ball moving down the field here and see if they can't get some points on the board right to huddle and it's going to be cohen a quarterback and now a flag for illegal substitution too many men in the huddle that's going to back up the pirates that's the second time we've seen that one against each team now and many vikings fans may remember a penalty like that against the new orleans saints back breaks a couple of tackles does a nice job of continuing to drive forward and gets to about the 35-yard line does bowl yeah he picks up about three there that's one of the better runs up the middle for bull and the pirates the trojans have not really given up much i think a three-yard gain is probably the most they've given up on a run all night correct me if i'm wrong but i'm just pulling that off memory but well the parents have had a one big plane it was on a fourth down pass like you said they have not not they have not had much on the ground though and now that was with dota under center now let's call it the backup rizzotta got roughed up hand off bowl left sides got the first down lowers his shoulder and tries a couple of trojans forward across to the 43-yard line a nice run by bull he continues to turn his legs and power forward does bowl for the pirates now temporarily stop the clock at 10 12. so they can move the chains there's also an injury on the far side on the number three sideline as they're gonna stop the clock to check on him and that's bowl he pops back up hopefully he's okay yeah one official giving the signal to start the clock the other one stopping it for that injury so and bull was right on the sideline so you kind of couldn't sort of play there where he was at but he's able to pop up and try to shake that one off pirates are hoping to just kind of survive and get ready for next week and it doesn't get any easier when they got holly next week at home now counts confusion now flips it forward to romero and it turns something into nothing and they get up to the 45-yard line looked like he was supposed to go to the handoff left wasn't there kind of fumbling a little bit of snap and just flung it over to romero and improvisation turns nothing into something does romero and brings up second about six yeah you know and you alluded to it there i think he thought that the pitch man was supposed to be in a certain spot when he looked you didn't see him there and then as he was pitching it he kind of was like almost lost the ball almost fumbled and somehow he he hung on to it and and then you saw what happened after that so looks over the trojan defense he's gonna hand it off and the ball is loose but now they're gonna roll him down they rule romero down is that ball popped free and now another injured pirates i don't have a receiver split left trojans bringing pressure may have been a little early yeah and that's going to be right encroachments on the penalty uh crossman they had to blow dead because he would have got through to the quarterback and carl wouldn't have any chance at that one so they blow that one dead makes it third and short for crookston now looks like they'll spot the ball right at midfield make mentioned there had he handed off a split second later it would have been a qb sack and they would have lost about five yards but uh good timing there and crookson gets a lucky break on that one and pitch far side that's bull again back in the game drives forward lowers the shoulder gets brought out of bounds at about 24 maybe 45. as he goes out of bounds a ring second and seven seconds seven for shown a variety of ways to score tonight on offense through the air and on the ground and those two people you just mentioned they're certainly uh candidates for a player of the game but still somehow barnesville came away with the football there's a fumble on the play and it's recovered by barnesville and it's robindo on the recovery for barnesville and it will be barnesville football yard at the 48-yard line so trojans well in control of this one they'll come out three backs in the backfield change at quarterback he'll keep it himself and that's bredman cuts to the near side gets a first down these guys played jv ball and they all get to at least be on the sideline if not get into the game and play for these varsity games which is a pretty cool experience three backs in the backfield again brendaman under center looking over the pirate defense handoff near side spun down on the play was it in the help and that was a late flag some extra particular activities behind are further down in the play may have said something under his breath or maybe he said something out loud to the ref but like the ref looked right at him and just tossed the flag at him like it was a beanbag toss we're gonna have on sportsmanlike on barnesville and that's gonna back them up that will back the trojans up to their own 46-yard line it's one of those penalties again it's a teaching moment that yeah trojans will definitely take advantage of when they talk about that one probably tonight's on an unfortunate penalty breadman will lead the trojans to the line here on the near hash as the clock ticks
