what has happened to budget Builders and welcome back to the barn find Fairlane rescue this is a 1962 Ford Fairlane that we pulled out of a barn where it had been tucked since 1993. this car was absolutely disgusting we were able to get the thing running we did a full exterior detail but in today's video we need to dial the car in so we can have it Street ready the last few things we need to finish up that engine bay and then we need to jump into this disgusting interior there's a reason we've got the windows open they've been open since we pulled this car out in the shop there this thing smells terrible very musky but let's pull everything out of it let's clean it really well and let's completely rebuild it [Music] [Music] getting fancy here try to keep some of the degrees are off of the fender here but let's go ahead and get this engine bay dolled up a bit foreign [Music] thank you foreign moving into this interior now as you can see a lot of the hard items in here are actually super crisp I mean the dash is gorgeous other than being really dirty and covered in spiderwebs but the seats aren't very happy the carpet is destroyed the headliner is hanging down we cut what bits we could out of it and overall as far as the feces and other Mouse Nest stuff in here this thing smells horrendous and so I think our next step here is to go ahead and just rip everything out of this interior so we can get new carpet in it figure out what in the world we're going to do with these seats and get a new headliner in it [Music] sheesh foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] see that [Music] [Music] thank you all right [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] we've got everything stripped out of the interior and the trunk there and my goodness you can actually breathe now around this thing it uh I was surprised at how musky this thing was so how damp it's been but how nice of shape this car actually is for being it as old as it is you're talking about a 61 year old car the trunk is perfect the floors are extremely nice we have one two three little spots that we have to patch a bit but otherwise this car is so incredibly solid we're gonna be able to clean this thing up let's take care of these floor patches really quick so we can start laying down sound deadening and then we can start putting our headliner back in get our Windows back in man this car is coming together though and I am so excited to see this interior through thank you and as you can see even though we do have the few little spots we need to touch up super super solid flooring still so what I'm gonna do here let's go ahead and just Mark our few spots that we need to address I am probably you might ask why we're not doing full pans well realistically it doesn't need full pans and if you look online as far as floor pan patches go for their repair panels go for these they're the cheapest Stamped Out they're like little lines that are rolled in they're not even full divots like these are and they just look really really cheap the nice ones are very expensive and so we have some old panels actually off of an mg that's very similar that we'll be able to use pieces out of it and that uh that should get us everything we need here let's go ahead and get these cut out and start getting our new pieces that spot welded in [Music] [Music] all right [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] actually it looks pretty good [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] I'm recording you making noises [Laughter] well while the floor is drying I think it's time to go ahead and see what we can do with these seats I'm not sure what we're getting into here talk to an interior guy and it was looking like sixteen hundred dollars or so to recover them this is budget builds and that's not an option seat covers for these so the issue that that I've had with these is 1962 is the only year so they they made the same interior basically from 1962 to 1964. 1962 was the only silver interior so we have to special order we can buy different colors that we have to dye they were going to be about 650 750 dollars it was 150 to 200 up charge to have it custom to that color so we're looking at 850 900 or so depending on shipping and so we went on eBay and I've seen them pop up I know if you guys have messed around with the stuff you've seen them the old school New Old Stock random seat covers uh we measured these out special code 202a color green yeah we got some green seats but we figured if we were gonna have to Dime anyways I think we pay like 230 dollars for this set maybe it was less than that if they'll fit we can make them fit make them look good we know we dyed the seats in the rabbit pickup truck and it did really well so I figured we'd try this I'm not sure what in the world we're getting into but there was just no way I could swallow that 900 or 1600 or so Bill on seats let's give it a try hopefully we got a good deal hopefully it works for us oh it's pretty too it's actually not too bad look at that that's 50s look how pliable it is though wow it's actually probably better quality than some of the new stuff you buy now we're gonna start here with the front bench seat first removing this cover and then the clip and once we flipped over that Center little strap cover and gone ahead and pulled the inside clips top of the seat comes right off and now we want to work to get it as clean as possible now with the kiss style covers we have you're supposed to go over this yeah so we'll clean up as much as we can so it doesn't make you know it's pretty thick covers and I think it'll do really good but we have to try to get this as clean as we can thankfully most of the smell was obviously in all the crevices on the side of the car that we cleaned out and everything not in these seats but we do want to spend a lot of time brushing everything out getting any little bit of poop or anything off of them and obviously take care of the inside and you might be wondering why we left the old material on there and that's how it holds its shape because this is not specific for it I'm pretty sure these were always designed to be this way to go over the old fabric anyways well it says right here it's supposed to go right over the old so let's follow the directions on the thing all right ready I have no clue and we'll use some of the supplied hog rings as well as we'll probably need 18 million more to go with it and so you put them in there you got your fancy Little Harbor Freight special tool and then we'll squeeze this and it just pinches it down just like the OEM Factory that's the hog rain doing one thing with trial and error I've came come to find is especially with your cheaper hog ring pliers like these Harbor Freight specials we had to grind off a bunch of this smooth out everything because any little bit of sharpness just pierces holes in the vinyl and then also once you get in here and get it bit finish the tension kind of biting it all back down with a pair of needle nose pliers the top of our front just slide this cover on [Music] [Music] [Music] as cool as the white and green seat covers are I just don't think it's going to match that gray interior very well so what we've got is some Simcoe this is Sim color code this is a flexible coating hopefully it'll last pretty well we did something similar in the rabbit pickup truck and it's held up really really well so we're gonna try it on this now to do that I've got some new Scotch Brite here and we need to scuff this down really good now thankfully it is new so we don't have to worry about getting crazy with cleaning it but you would take that step as well if you were doing it on something old so let's scuff it down we're gonna do four to five six light coats and it should tack in pretty well we could put it back together and get it stuck back in the car all right and there we have it our floors finished up super solid it is all dried it's not perfect but extremely happy with how it came out it's kind of neat how those mg floorboard the the lines the divots all line up right compared to the aftermarket stuff that you buy and this car is solid it is going to last for years and years and years to come as long as it's taken care of but with that being said we've gone ahead and coated the bottom as well where the welds are underneath and now we can start putting in our sound deadening I want to sound that and everything make this a nice comfortable quiet driver and then we can start putting everything back in the stuff we're applying today is just the same inexpensive Amazon stuff we have been the Solace it's thin but it does really well it makes a big difference in a car thank you nothing in the front yet got it in the back huge difference [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] there we go we've got it all sound done up and as you can see we didn't do all of the floor because obviously the carpet does have some of its own sound deadening but our main spots here this can help with road noise at the wheel wells and obviously to keep down Drive Line noise we have it in the middle there as well as the roof and with that it's headliner time there is a lot going on with this headliner I mean there is I don't know we'll see hopefully it's easier than the or similar to the Galaxy although the Galaxy was pretty darn hard I guess we just put it in here let's start seeing if we can get it stretched out as you can see of course you've got to trim up just a little bit here to get these popped through I may have to trim it just a little bit more as we as we start stretching it but first you get all your bows make sure they're in order like they were as they came out of the car we'll get it put up in here and then I want to start in the middle getting it tight from front to back and then once we do that we can work down the sides and start trying to stretch and pinch everything in but first thing let's just sling it up in there look okay how as hell was it through a flapper was it you do like that we're just using our dap weld wood you can see we've gone ahead and marked our line here so I know to stay on the outside of that let that set for about 15 minutes till it tacks up and then we'll do a second coat and then we can go ahead and stretch and put the front on that looks good foreign now with the front and rear centers tacked in we can go ahead and start working down the sides now this one's a little different on the 61 we had your clip-in little deal here all the way down the whole side so back here we do have to glue but we can go ahead and start getting we'll start kind of in the middle and work our way out trying to get everything nice and as tight as possible so what you do is you pull this tight and then we'll fold it in here I got this little plastic tool and I take that and I jam it up in there until it actually bites on the little biter things in there and uh that should work good so you want to get it close to stretch but not quite because it will tighten up even more once you start pushing it up in there and then you trim up your access and shove the rest of it up in there as well foreign we're just about ready to go ahead and start fitting our glass so we need to go ahead and get the old seal off here I don't know you just start ripping it away but you want to be real careful not to bend up your stainless See it'll start coming off with it hopefully the seals as your seals as hard and dry as this one and it just breaks apart no problem now we want to get all our edges good and clean [Music] although we do have a little bit of delamination around the edges it still is a really really nice window and the original get our gasket installed and so what you want to do is get this put on dry thank you put that seal on we can go ahead and start fitting our trim how we can fit our rope which is what we'll be using to actually pull it through here and I like to always start at the bottom so we start pulling at the bottom as we push the windshield down just get it tucked up in there so when we put this in place we can pull it back past the lip and once we've got it pulled all the way back in around you want to take an overlap your other one a little ways so you can pull past each other [Music] I'm going to actually do is go ahead and actually strip caulk it using 3M strip caulk just like it would have been from the factory just to help seal it up as best possible how's it looking let me take a look all right this is nerve-wracking cutting a hole in a headliner you just finished [Applause] thank you foreign now something I will mention really quick just so you all know I did notice this morning a little bit of water weeping through that side just from the Dew coming down not only is that just because it hadn't had enough time in the heat for everything to seat down nicely but I think we should have done just a little tiny thin coat of weatherstrip adhesive down inside of that the black stuff that you use that's actually wind for the windows and so that is something on yours be sure you do just a little bit there because we will probably pop these back out or at least open them up as best we can and get a little bit of sealant down in there because you know we did it around the outside didn't even think about on the window bit here but that is something to keep in mind we're not professionals at this so sometimes we do things not 100 the correct way just remember and uh that is something that you may want to address foreign [Music] for cleaning our door panels we are using an x14 which is a bleach cleaner a lot of times you use this for getting mold off of boat seats be careful to get breathing this in or get it on your clothes let that soak for about 20 seconds we got our little brush [Music] and you want to get as much of that back off as you can because that actually will continue to bleach out the residue foreign the carpet this is always exciting getting these last few bits in here that really transform an interior this is just the inexpensive consumer grade carpet less than two hundred dollars but it is going to transform this interior and we're going back with that factory gray silver color and it'll just slide up in here all we need to do is cut out a slot for our pedal high beam low beam switch and then most of it will stay floating because it has all the sound deadening and we might glue some in the middle a little bit on the sides then obviously the seats and the cake panels and The Rocker covers are going to hold in the rest foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] and there you have it 30 years of sitting in a barn is not going to hold this old Ford Fairlane down this 1962 is once again ready to roll it is not a perfect car but it is an excellent driver it's so much fun she's slick I really hope you all have enjoyed the rescue of this car bringing it back on a budget getting that 221 V8 running getting it driving getting the exterior detailed and then knocking out the interior it's not perfect perfect but again we're not professionals we are doing this on a budget on our own but we're really pleased with the outcome and we hope you all are too obviously there's a couple little things to dial in we need some kick panels we need a couple sun visors and a few other little odds and ends like the exhaust to finish up the car completely but overall it is Road ready once again I think as the seat covers sit out in the sun a little bit they'll stretch out even more but for some random seat covers that we bought off of eBay that are not vehicle specific we really are happy with the outcome of them something to consider down the road is maybe put some XL bucket seats up in the front and then we might be able to find gray interior that's been kind of the difficult thing this is a code 61. it's actually pretty rare special order and so that's where we were having trouble too finding stuff and then we could get it but it was six to eight months out and it was quite expensive but we were able to make it happen we were able to get this thing back on the road but I hope you all have enjoyed this and if you enjoyed rescues like this pulling cars out of barns getting them running again bringing them back to life and restoring them rebuilding them be sure to subscribe button notification Bell if you have been a part of the channel we really do appreciate it so incredibly much we enjoy this so so so much and we get to do it because of each and every one of you but that is going to wrap it up peace out and catch you all on the flip side [Music] foreign [Music]
