[Music] [Music] we know that we have some African ancestry in our family so we're hoping that you'll be able to help us today to find out where that person is in our family tree so how do you know you have African answers we found out recently that some of our family and the grandchildren have got sickle cell trait so sickle cell that's the sort of genetically inherited trait that is you know strongly correlated with people of African descent that's right the question now becomes where did that come from so we have this lovely picture so this is Robert Monroe's rise right and they are your grandparents so if we look at Robert we know that you've got sort of African so when we have a look at the family tree here's you and then this Robert yes and then this father unknown father unknown has actually fathered a lot of people and that you had a story you had a theory that you think the African might have come in from question mark that's right that's that's what we've sort of been told that an African captain came on a ship into the Clyde this is where all my family left they lived there for over a hundred years he had a relationship with Mary we believe that that's where our African ancestry may be from and something we've always wanted to know so let's start with the bad news we can't confirm or deny that right father unknown is rather elusive mm-hmm but so we got you to take a DNA test as you know and you can see here quite clearly lots of West Coast African DNA Wow right I've got plenty of evidence to support that there's a connection what you might not realize is that connection actually comes from Roberts mother's side the Anderson side yeah so sure his unknown father might have been of African descent but so was his mother oh that's brilliant and the way we know that is because we're able to connect you with someone else who's taken the test and also has African DNA wow what a day what a day that's I can't believe that it's fantastic something we've always wanted to know well you you [Music] you
