Bad Weather Blues

well one video I knew I had to do is on whether specifically bad weather because bad weather happens when you're out traveling like right now it's raining and it's windy so here's my little video on all four seasons of bad weather well the weather doesn't always cooperate rain and sleet wind not fun when campers think of bad weather the first thing that usually comes to mind is rain and lots of rain but I'm not talking about severe weather like hurricanes or tornadoes just those inconvenient days when Mother Nature gets Moody and prefers you stayed indoors inside your trailer know what that's okay it pulls things down [Music] definitely not a tanning day today stay indoors and read date so what is the day lighter sound like in rainstorm noisy well it's another crappy day in paradise there were mountains in behind there but they've disappeared which probably means the rain they're coming so first things first anything you don't want wet bring indoors the weather was really good for a while now looks like a thunder storms blowing in but the good news is if it really pours rain I can check if the new seal my windows works well it's a cold windy and rainy day I got all three at one what a deal so the good thing is no leaks at least yet so I'm hoping that seal worked there is good news on a rainy day when you have no leaks other than that I'm kind of stuck stay indoors do some planning and stay off the trails they're kind of muddy muddy walking trails is one thing but muddy driving trails is another always consider bad weather when choosing your route as it can get really messy if you're in need of a quick exit and find your road in is no longer drivable rains not the only problem [Music] Oh sometimes it seems the weather just goes from bad to worse bad weather like other things just happens not much you can do about it but it's a good thing to at least be prepared so expect some downtime expect some cabin time when you're out in your travels most people they bring a good book or if they've got a laptop or something maybe you can you know watch a video if you're out in the boonies you might not have a signal so don't rely on your phone or your or Wi-Fi or anything like that but in my case when it's crappy like this I do my books go through my receipts everybody loves accounting one of the biggest concerns with an a liner is wind a lot of it I think is more myth than reality but just in case when it is windy I make sure I line up the trailer with the wind in this case it's lined up with the back but most of the time when it's windy I turn it around and I face the trailer into the wind just don't face it with the side towards the wind because you're gonna get a little wobbly and you're gonna get a lot of drafts full rain snow cold extreme heat are all challenges but one that really puts fear in the hearts of campers is wind and I got a lot of it right now [Music] it's absolutely terrible out there you can see that even though I've stuffed the cracks with my pool noodle the wind is still pushing through there so I've got to force it back every once a while oh it is terrible I think you can hear it and it is moving the trailer a little bit somebody with common sense wouldn't even bother putting the trailer up but I put it up anyway well I was driving I 90 today the wind was absolutely terrible it was a crosswind like it is right now did you see see everything just move right there as I've shown in other videos securing an a-frame from the wind is quite easy and has many advantages over other types of RVs if in doubt leave it down and move to your tow vehicle until the storm subsides but wind in an arid environment has other annoyances it's amazing how little it takes to kick up the dust in the desert well I didn't plan it this way but I found another great use for the the foam the noodles that I put in the the corners that's to keep out dust when you're in the desert there's a lot of dust and wind storms and I originally thought it was just for insulation but dust and drafts is now the prime importance when I'm in the desert so I'm glad I did something that has two uses well I don't know if you can hear it or not but that's not rain that's freezing rain kind of one of those travelers nightmares and my trailer is now being covered with a sheet of ice winners come early it's about well about one degree above freezing right now but I don't know if it's gonna get colder or warmer I got a feeling it's gonna get colder well I don't care what state you call home but there's two things you should never forget when packing your vehicle for a trip one is an ice scraper and the other is a snow brush cuz even hot dry Arizona get snow and then sometimes things just get worse or not better well some people ask me what's the best tow vehicle for bad weather for snow Bryce and my answer is really always the same it's not as much your tow vehicle as what tires you have on it good tires are absolutely critical and a lot of people when they choose their tires they think oh well I'm going a long distance I need something for good highway mileage and it's not too noisy nice and quiet because all they think is that long distance and I guess if you're traveling across the prairies on a beautiful day and only going to the Walmart to camp that's probably fine but reality check it's never that way you always have to plan for your worst and so what do I travel with I travel with all weather all season big noisy tires they don't get a lot they don't get good gas mileage and it really makes it noisy like it is now that's why I have to wear this mic but they get me places safely and that's the critical part is safety first so the good thing about bad weather is it really makes you appreciate it when the weather is good and it's a beautiful day today sunny warm even though it's October however this is actually a little bit deceiving because although you see the Sun and the waves from the other angle you can see the impending clouds of doom if all this talk about bad weather makes you a little depressed be assured it's not all doom and gloom the forces of nature do demand respect but can be truly inspiring as well there's an uncanny beauty in a storm cloud the patterns of the hills at first snow is like icing on a cake an ice on pine trees is tinsel on a natural Christmas tree with the water droplets the decorations winds make bird sore and windmills turn [Music] when the rain stop the earth soaks it in leaving sculptures in the river banks messages in the mud and a clean slate for creatures to leave their footprints in the sand where the earth and heavens meet as a magical place so rather than complain about the weather you should marvel at nature's aerial ballet so are a few raindrops on a window really that bad [Music] bad weather blues nachos guacamole salsa and shameless on DVD is that paradise early and here you thought I only watch Star
