hello everyone this is Nick and welcome back to another strategy video of Axis and Allies in 1942 online now this is gonna be a video where I just talk about a couple of key points you might be looking at this image and kind of thinking to yourself what the hell happened how did the axis spiral so out of control first off you'll notice that the UK currently holds Germany Germany hasn't gone yet for round four so they should be able to take it back with the six units dotted around northwestern Europe France and Italy and of course they're probably have these fighters to try to take out this fleet here we'll talk about all this in a little bit but also specifically here in the Pacific what happened how did the UK gain so much control so much land and how did the u.s. come into play here as well how did things spiral so out of control for the Japanese the Japanese we're doing just a very cookie cutter strategy of you know ferrying four units from the mainland of Japan over here to Yunnan just to try to take India something that you know if you're a decent access player and even if you're playing it against a decent UK player you can usually do around probably around round five round three or four a little bit optimistic if you're just ferrying units but round five is usually when you are able to take India but it's not looking good for the Japanese Japan goes after the UK so the UK you know the Japanese could potentially with this additional aircraft carrier and two fighters and destroyer that they put at the end of last turn they could attack one of these fleets and completely wipe them out it's looking pretty good for them to be able to do that but Japan goes after England and England's probably just going to merge fleets with the US and then they'll just take turns attacking the Japanese fleet one after the other and probably completely wipe it out taking out all of its transports land blocking Japan ensuring that they don't take India because the UK remember did take Germany but surprisingly Germany was being overly aggressive towards Russia and they had a stack of I think five tanks and one infantry here let me see UK combat yeah United Kingdom one took the territory sucking Berlin delete there I pcs and bringing the Allies to seven victory cities out of thirteen Germany will no longer produce units at Severinsen etc England destroyed four tanks one infantry and two anti-aircraft artillery x' and lost one bomber three infantry and two artilleries so I did sacrifice the bomber to ensure that I actually capture the territory and sackler 40-odd IPC's UK is now sitting pretty at a hundred I P C's that's insane so the UK will probably lose Germany back next turn or this turn and they'll probably lose this fleet four fighters can do a lot of damage I don't know how much they'll be able to do against the battleship and do two stores but I'm gonna try now this is a game I'm playing against myself I tend to when I'm not playing a bunch of ranked games I tend to just pick up hot seat games against myself and theory craft a lot and kind of create a lot of what-if situations and this is a what-if situation or what if if then situation that just is completely blowing away the Axis powers now mistake number one it pretty much all came down to Germany what Germany did Germany took an unnecessary risk and then Germany did not take would I deem to be a necessary risk as well two different moves in two different zones that went absolutely horribly catastrophic Lee Roth and it was all Germany Japan so far has been playing very very well they're trying to start counter the fleet's a little bit by getting out a little stuff here they've got some infantry on the actual mainland of Japan and transports are too far away except for this one infantry here so it doesn't look like they're gonna be taking mainland Japan at any point in time well any point in time anytime soon Japan is relatively well defended so yeah Japan has been doing pretty damn well they're they're getting a little bit of a defensive fleet to start being able to counter they'll probably be able to counter whatever the UK does here they've got a decent amount of amount of infantry in Southeast Asia so you know it looks like they might still be able to hold out against any kind of Indian onslaught but again it's looking pretty dicey for India it's looking pretty dicey if Germany ooh Germany you know what Germany could actually decide to just go straight for India and knock out the UK with the six tanks they have there on the caucuses yeah because it doesn't look like Germany is gonna be able to take Russia no it doesn't it is currently Russia's turn they haven't repaired their infrastructure built anything yet but anyway let's get back to the mistakes the Axis powers do still have a chance to get out of this mess it looks very very tricky but what would the UK gaining a hundred IPC's for next turn it's very very tough but Germany could actually completely actually they will yeah Germany probably will knock England out of the game here or India out of the game sorry not England but they'll probably be able to take out this fleet as well but again back to the mistakes back to the mistakes it all goes back to round one alright here I've got a fresh game set up so we can see what round one looks like Russa hasn't gone yet Russia's probably going to do a couple of things around here but this is what the Atlantic looks like that round one after Russia's turn actually no nevermind that's not what it looks like let's just go through Russia really quickly there that's what it looks like so we're just gonna completely ignore Russia and we're on Germany's turn right now so this is what the Atlantic looks like when Germany starts their turn you're usually gonna see this Russian sub here if Russia didn't move this up here I mean I don't know what to tell you it's a it's a stupid move if Russia does not non-combat move this up here just for an attempt at an extra added piece of defense defensive power here in C zone seven for the British it's just to try any desperate move to keep this little British fleet alive so you always want to move your Russian sub here in your non-combat now what Germany did and again this is all me a theory craft on my own so I did all these moves to try to create what if an if/then situations so what I did is I purchased well an infantry artillery to place on Italy to keep this transport active every combat round I then I purchased I think it was I can't remember if four tanks and a fighter to try to be a little bit aggressive and also kind of control a little bit of the skies control a little bit of the Atlantic this is usually a pretty common purchase for me and round one is Germany and once I have Corelli I'll start getting infantry and tanks there once have congress's I have infantry and tanks there and constantly try to have tanks and fighters pumping out of Germany and I usually try to get an infantry and artillery on Italy every turn as well to keep this transport active and constantly hitting either the Ukraine if the Russians take it back or the caucuses if we're trying to fight them there and if Russia takes it back as well just keep that transport going over and over and over if I deem it necessary I try to go for Egypt but I'll get to that in a little bit this is generally my Germany strategy now what happened you have two moves here basically with the units you have but she's getting out of the purchase phase now what I tend to try to do is take this cruiser here this submarine here these two subs and two fighters to attack this British fleet in season seven now three subs are Cruiser and two fighters have a pretty ridiculous success chance against this I think it's something like 90 ish percent let's check really quick there's this wonderful little website called a Axis and Allies toolkit by jarred marring and we can go ahead and add a little scenario here so we can have two fighters and three submarines attacking our sorry two fighters three submarines and one cruiser attacking one British battleship one British destroyer and one Russian submarine the transport clearly is a noncombatant unit so it doesn't go up onto the board if you calculate this scenario right here and use the other three or four fighters depending on what you have against you know Russia or maybe this cruiser here maybe this destroyer here whatever you like if you calculate this scenario you have a 95.8% chance to win the defender has a 2.5 percent chance to beat you and it's a tiny little yet 1.7 percent time you will draw so just over 4 percent what is that 4.2 percent of not outright destroying the British fleet that's a pretty damn certain strategy you're pretty much going to destroy that fleet it's very rare that you will see this fight fail you might lose more or less units you might lose more or less IPC's but you're pretty much going to take that on now first mistake Germany did not do this Germany did this which arguably is a decent strategy you're trying to nullify the two transports here on the eastern seaboard of the United States you're trying to not have them reinforce North Africa or not have them come up here to take Norway you're basically trying to hold back or control the Atlantic that's just a tiny little amount so this is what I did which arguably is a decent strategy a lot of people do it you will see a lot of people doing this strategy however this combat here now drops in percentage if we remove two submarines it's still statistically a win but it drops in percentage a lot you go down to 60% probability that you will win so 40% of the time you will either outright lose or draw yeah so 30% chance to lose and the British fleet still stands or a 10% chance to draw where everyone loses everything so again 30% chance to lose not that bad pretty good odds but it's not a certainty clearly 95% chance to win is pretty much a certainty 60% chance to win not so much now what actually happened in round 1 when the Germans attacked season 7 season 7 defenders held on and defeated the attackers the attackers lost one submarine one cruiser and two fighters the defenders suffered no losses which means that England got to keep its battleship one additional transport apart from the one that starts here in season I believe 10 yes and a destroyer Russia got to keep its submarine which has been surviving throughout the entire game so a pretty massive and crushing defeat for the German Navy absolutely crushing that was mistake number one they did take out the two transports and the destroyer but I would say that probably probably probably an arguably better strategy to deal with these two zones is to just risk trying on a one on one chance to take one submarine from season 9 to 11 and aid C zone 7 with two submarines instead of just one I would say that is probably a pretty good choice just to try to see if you hadn't have a chance to take up the destroyer and two transports here it's just a one-on-one battle and if you do take one additional submarine from season nine up to season seven all of a sudden instead of a 60% chance to win you have an 85% chance to win I would say that's probably the better option out of the three different strategies to fully attack 7/2 split between eleven and seven and to split more between seven and only one submarine to 11 just to try to risk taking out the destroyer and two transports I would probably say that's a better strategy I'm gonna have to try that out fury crafted a little bit but that was just mistake number one now let's go back to what the board looks like now that's the unnecessary risk the Germany did take now getting to the necessary risk the Germany did not take and that involves Egypt that's right all of this that's happening right here right now in the Pacific is because Germany did not take Egypt what do I mean by that because clearly we must be saying Nick what the hell do you mean what does Germany taking Egypt have to do with the British and Americans completely almost dominating all the Pacific and threatening Japan in such a powerful way the thing is there's a fighter here a very important fighter it's a beautiful little British Spitfire and it's of paramount importance to taking on sea zone 37 this Japanese fleet right here they where they've got a battleship an aircraft carrier and two fighters pretty much bringing their total fighters in the Pacific I believe to six let me check now yes six there's one on Japan so the Japanese start with six fighters in the Pacific including these two down here in season 37 and what I would say is arguably one of the strongest strategies that the UK could do to start trying to maintain dominance over the Pacific at least for a very short amount of time is take out this fleet here in season 37 not only does it negate a whole bunch of raw force and power from the Japanese it also enables these transports to do a little bit legwork possibly shipping units back and forth from Egypt possibly bringing in some of all these infantry that are just sitting here doing absolutely nothing and having them reinforce India or Africa you get to start doing a little bit of maneuvers around here if this fleet is taken out so what England tends to want to do is take this cruiser this submarine this cruiser this aircraft carrier this fighter all attacking seas on cert 37 with one additional reinforcements the fighter from Egypt it can just make it there I believe it's just three moves one two three yeah three moves and it can make it there so it can sit pretty on the aircraft carrier if it survives the battle if the aircraft carrier does not survive the battle you just dump it in this in the ocean but you definitely need that Spitfire to aid in this fight against sea zone 37 now I already showed you that there's a wonderful little website called Axis and Allies toolkit let's go ahead and crunch the numbers because math is fun so here we go if the British attacked the Japanese fleet in sea zone 37 with two cruisers one submarine one fighter and one aircraft carrier it's a pretty abysmal 27.2 chance to win that is horrific there is absolutely no reason why you would ever want to attempt this maneuver without the additional fighter from Egypt however simply adding them one fighter to the mix all of a sudden takes your odds from 27 point two percent chance victory all the way up to an unbelievable fifty seven point two percent chance victory that is absolutely ridiculous it's insane how much that changes all of a sudden it just completely goes into your favor not by very much but it's a risk that you need to take as the UK if you wish to maintain any type of dominance in the Pacific and necessarily dominance but any type of temporary control if you because if the Japanese start going pretty crazy producing a whole bunch of battleships it can get out of hand very very quickly however if they do that it's actually a blessing in disguise because they're not dedicating IPC's to actually trying to take India so again mistake number two was Germany not taking Egypt on round one which arguably has easier said than done it's pretty damn hard to take Egypt on round one because as you'll notice here you don't have him from tree and range if you want this transport to pick this up it can only get to cease on 15 you can take these infantry and bring them in and attack the battleship and have to transport do a landing there in Egypt and bring these two in but you're only attacking with four now how hard is it for Germany to take Egypt with this force let's crunch the numbers here we go so if Germany is attacking with two infantry one artillery on one tank against the force of one infantry one artillery one tank and one fighter the odds are pretty disastrous it's only twenty five point two percent chance to win that's rough ideally you know all you're really wanting to do is not necessarily capture Egypt you just want to destroy the Spitfire destroying the Spitfire also entails a draw so that's an additional seven point seven percent chance so you're looking at a roughly what is that thirty three percent chance to destroy the Spitfire because that's the aim it's not taking Egypt it's not winning it's just destroying the Spitfire so that it cannot reinforce the battle in season 37 and you only have a 33% chance to do that with this measly little German force which is why one of the best strategy is for Germany is to actually reinforce with the bomber that you start with in Ukraine now this is taking the Larry Harris GenCon 3.0 version of the board into account which pretty much all ranked games are played with if you take this bomber and assist you'll notice that the odds go from mom I already erased the percent it was 33% 33% chance to destroy the Spitfire all the way up to an absolutely ridiculous 72.1% win chance and 8.1 % ja ja chance so you now have an 80% chance of destroying the Spitfire in Egypt so that the British cannot use it to reinforce C zone 37 now that also brings into play what Russia wants to do a lot of people will have you believe that it's best to take a whole bunch of forces from the caucuses and attack Ukraine with these two tanks here in Russia and the two fighters from Corellia and Russia as well and retreat after one round of combat just to quote unquote weaken their forces I firmly believe that that is an absolutely horrible strategy and I would sacrifice every last Russian to try as hard as I could to take Ukraine and destroy that bomber if you destroy that bomber as Russia Germany cannot reinforce Egypt with the bomber which means Egypt will have the Spitfire which means the UK will be able to use the Spitfire in season 37 to destroy this fleet and maintain absolute dominance over the Pacific along with a nice little u.s. fleet basically creating this scenario where Japan is now incredibly pressured by two massive Allied fleets and is all of a sudden gonna have to start pumping all their IPC's into actual fleet dominance or defensive units for mainland Japan so disregarding that England was actually able to take Germany because arguably Germany should have been able to see that they had three transports with a massive six stack of infantry here so they just should have just plunked down ten infantry on Germany and you know called it quits and that that should have been the end of it they the UK wouldn't have taken Germany disregarding what happened here the synergy that the UK fighter on Egypt has with this is absolutely unbelievable how one unit can completely change the entire tide of the game at least in the Pacific or in certain circumstances is absolutely ridiculous and how one bomber on Ukraine that Russia desperately wants to take out can turn the tide of the outcome of this which and then in turn turns the tide of the outcome of this which then in turn turns the tide of the outcome of this is absolutely insane so basically in a nutshell Russia wants to take Ukraine on round one now that was just a quick little video I hope you enjoyed it wasn't necessarily going too deep into anything I don't feel like it did anyway but you never know but I hope that you enjoyed it pretty little fun video to showcase I thought it was pretty funny when Germany got taken here and all this happened but just goes to show that you never really know what can end up happening in an axis and Allies game but if you do ever play as the Axis powers tried to keep an eye on the importance of sea zone 7 and how important it is to wipe out that British fleet and absolutely ensure that you wipe it out and not only that but see if you have the resources ie the bomber and Ukraine to actually take out Egypt by round one if you do manage to do that you're basically going to help your Japanese partner ensure dominance of the Pacific and make it a lot easier for them to eventually take India but once again hope you enjoy the video thank you very much for watching and keep an eye out for a couple more little quirky little strategy videos for access and allies in 1942 online [Music]
