So if they play this loud enough inside the ship will the US shio hear it over sonar? Or are they just radio broadcasting it to them the same way they would chat to them?
Collins class sub copped a lot of crap but was a very good unit, full of US systems with euro hull, built in Australia, hence the complaints...
Did 3 deployments in 4 years on a USN DDG. The concensus is - if we're solo looking for a sub - we're proper fucked. We have active and passive sonar, but it's easy for them to find us and ultimately, while we're looking for them - a guessing game.
If we have a Frigate with us, our chances are much higher, because Frigates have Helos aboard, but the chances are still not that great - it is just literally that hard to find a submarine with a destroyer/frigate, even a destroyer with active and passive sonar and a Helo friendly.
I was deployed with the Aussies last year. The maintainers came to work in high shorts and t-shirts and were the nicest god damn people I have ever met.
One time this dude came by and asked if he could borrow our overhead crane to lift an jet engine on a trailer. He gave me like 6 packs of Tim Tams and told me to freeze em immediately. A few hours later he came back and said theyβd no longer need the hoist. I jokingly asked, βYou want your Tim Tams back?β He gave me the, βAh, donβt be silly, mate!β and gave me that friendly slap on the side of the shoulder.
I love the Aussies.
...This song comes from a ship down under....
Men at work have a great selection of tracks actually.
my personal favourite is overkill
I was on vacation in Australia earlier this year, and I have to say that Aussies are some of the friendliest, most hospitable people I've ever met in my life. They have a wicked sense of humor too.
cheeky bastards!
Whole vid is a good watch TBH.
Would have loved to have seen the US Ship crew reaction
