hello guys and welcome to this fox wizard video today we're going to have a look at two of the finest hottest state cars money can buy in the red corner we have the audi rs4 advance 450 horsepower nought to 64.1 seconds 80 000 pounds in this bells and whistles war sprung edition in the blue corner we have the audi rs6 event 600 horsepower from its four liter twin turbo v8 not to 60 in 3.6 seconds and in this kitchen sink for spring edition 110 000 pounds is what you need to make this your own now what we want to do today is see which one is the best hot estate car of the two of them you know i'm a hot hatch kind of guy and i want to see which one kind of captures the magic of a hot hatch but he's obviously a much more practical proposition being an estate car now firstly we'll have a look at the exterior styling we'll have a look at the interiors and then we'll go for a drive on the amazing roads that surround this wonderful venue here in the south west cotswold so without any further ado let's get driving these crazy fast estate cars okay let's get the ball rolling then by having a look at the audi rs4 now some of you may know i've been a bit of a fan of rs4 i've had three of my own but that was quite a long time ago and that was two b5s and one b7 i've never really talked to the b8 but i have already driven the b9 and i found this quite interesting probably the first rs4 that can go around corners properly the older cars were lovely to look at lovely inside very practical very nice to own but they wouldn't see which way a good hot hatch went on a british country road the b9 was different i drove it two years ago the pre-facelift car so these cars were subject to a facelift earlier in 2020 it's not particularly obvious outside but inside i think it is so let's have a look around it so it's 80 000 of your pounds this car the spec sheet says it's a standard car but i don't know if they've kind of forgotten to put stuff like pan roof and wheels on because it's got 21 inch wheels and rather unusually these are very good looking wheels from audi they haven't really had a good selection recently but this yeah i'd have these on my car it's got black styling pack as well which with these newer cars means you get black badges and there's no chrome on the car which is how we like it you do wonder why they ever bother putting the matt aluminium or the chrome on because they just look so good like this and i think with the red car it's a bit much having all the sparkly bits as well so yeah it's good and it's classic rs4 unlike the rs6 it's a relatively subtle thing even in red we've got the fake vents which yeah i'm really not so sure about actually that does seem to go into the wheel arch so we'll forgive that maybe it adds to downforce or cooling but unfortunately i think that one is totally fake yes look at the flared arches not too obvious just nice when you see these on the road and you don't see them very often you really can't miss them when you see them from the back because they're yeah they just got that stance for them that an rs should have of course we've got real exhaust you can see in there there are two outlets one with a valve on it it's a beautiful thing okay let's have a look inside so not an awful lot has changed really it's um pretty familiar if you know b9 rs4s we've got a lovely bit of alcantara there which is a nice touch now i'm almost emotional seeing this car because after having had a good look at the a3s and s3s i'm pleased to report this is a proper audi cabin utterly utterly gorgeous yeah okay we've got silver leather nice bit of diamond quilting on it flat bottom steering wheel pedals which everybody reports are a bit cheap feeling and i guess they are but i always think plastic pedals are essential for not impaling you in an accident keyless entry and starts and as you can see we still have a fine selection of knobs and switches here and yes we've got a full width air vents which i quite like actually didn't really like it on the a3 because it wasn't such a nice bit of design but that's quite subtle we've got a knob for the volume so it hasn't been completely buttoned out at all this is a very traditional audi cabin and no worse for it we've got b and o sounds which i think mean you get illuminated speakers which you don't get on the a3 and s3 you just get a little badge on there that looks a bit cheap yeah this is this has reminded me how good audi cabins can be right let's have a look at rear space that's in my driving position a4s have never been huge but this is bigger than the ones that came before it and uh yeah even though that looks quite a long way back wow this is a very spacious cabin we haven't even got the blind open for the pan roof let's do that oh yeah oh yeah yeah lovely hardback seats which look a bit racy but they don't affect knee room an awful lot yeah that's good the roof does come down a bit because it's quite a stylish event a state car as they go but lots of headroom even with the roof so yeah lovely let's have a look in the boot which is quite an important feature of an rs4 so we've got power tailgates and yeah a nice flat floor there what we've got under here we've got no spare wheel we've got battery and some stuff some room there to hide stuff should you need to but yeah it's not really a compromise boot even though it's a four wheel drive car it's still pretty practical the only thing i'll say is that these pillars are quite sweeping which means it's a good looking car but you won't be able to get massive boxes in like you might do on some other estate cars okay guys let's go and see now how the rs4 advance drives on these amazing cotswold roads okay well here we are inside the audi rs4 and yeah it's such a lovely cabin i can't get over it it's been such a hard year for cabins and reviewing them that it's just nice to come into something you can utterly be positive about in every single way how long the a4 s4 rs4 will survive with such a nice cabin it's really hard to say the good news is this car has got adaptive dampers and audi have provided us with a really bumpy road to test it on and even on these 21 inch wheels it feels super compliant there's a lot of squidge in the chassis which uh yeah is ideal if you have a stately home with a long bumpy driveway and you like rs4s it's uncanny this surface is awful particularly this bit yeah that is progress abby well done i probably don't need to tell you this the driving position is superb we've got electric adjustment on the seats here and if you can't get comfy in this you ought to probably see a doctor yeah it's reminding me now why i love big fast estate cars so um yeah but comfort isn't everything and the beauty of a modern car like this is that you can press a few buttons and you end up with a car that will frighten a few supercars which we'll do shortly when we go and find a suitable road okay guys we're on a slightly better road now here and put it straight into dynamic mode to make everything as hard and aggressive as possible and it does feel usable on a british road which is quite surprising how you've given that making dynamic mode sort of track focus and they made it more suitable for fast driving on the road it's not crashy it is firm but it's firm in a sophisticated way which is perfectly usable we've got quite a bit of character from the exhaust there's pops and crackles on the overrun and all sorts of farts and stuff going [Music] on which is nice to know with these petrol particulate cars that they've taken a bit of time to make them characterful we've got eight speed automatic zf gearbox here which isn't sharp of the twin clutcher but it's as sharp [Music] as you need it and there's a little sort of dsg type fart in between the changes yeah it's losing character the big difference with this car over the preface of course that we've got the touchscreen uh infotainment system which is pretty easy to use you've got normal climate control buttons and stuff down here they're all very familiar but with this if you want to go into settings it's super quick because it's been developed now over a couple of years and i don't think anybody will have a problem with it so that's a nice upgrade over the mmi system i find anyway now onto the engine twin turbo v6 quite an exotic thing in the modern world not 64.1 seconds 450 horsepower and that doesn't sound like an awful lot in a heavy car like this but i don't think the figures really do any favor it's probably a bit higher as well if i just fall throttle 60 miles an hour and that as well as being quick it feels quick i think because the gearbox isn't perfectly smooth between the changes it's a bit more exhilarating than the sort of seamless thrust you get with with a between clutcher which is a bit like taking off in an airplane that is i do that again yeah yeah you can see why they sell a lot of these rs cars in the cotswolds because they're perfectly suited and the rs4 is quite small as well so yeah i like it a lot i'm falling in love with the rs4 all over again which begs the question do you really need an rs6 well there's only one way to find out let's have a closer look at the crazy audi rs6 okay here we have the audi rs6 advance now this has been out for about a year this is going to be my first drive of it today which i'm going to share with you on camera i'm so far behind everybody else because of covid this year it kind of affected the launch schedule and the availability of press cars so it's great to have my first drive here today right at the end of 2020 thanks to audi uk inviting me to this range driving day here near marmsbury now i've kind of done the training course on rs6 because i went to the launch of the asic's advance in this shape i drove an s6 event to the frankfurt motor show last year and i really enjoyed that okay the diesel was a bit unexpected in that car but on that kind of trip it was brilliant and on the country roads around the nurburgring it was incredible it handled like a hot hatch so i knew there was going to be a lot of potential with the rs6 when it came to handling that's where they've always failed in the past anyway let's have a closer look at this one so this is 110 000 pounds it's the vault sprung edition it's in navarra blue and it's got the optional mud pack to make it look even cooler now the original launch cars were largely red with aluminium pack which just looked a real bit of a dog's dinner this looks a lot more subdued so we've got black styling pack no chrome anywhere black badges a classy subdued color it's a perfect half of where we are now today if you've got a country estate and you want an estates this would look just right in front of it especially covered in mud and i think it's also suitable for the layer cake type person because it's understated menace that's probably quite a good angle there got 22-inch wheels which look like a serious piece of engineering especially with those massive brakes behind it but they've got 600 horsepower to keep in check this car just knocked 60 in 3.6 seconds that would yeah that would make it very difficult for quite a few supercars i think particularly when the weather is quattro weather which thankfully we don't have today yeah it's a beautiful beautiful thing and that's quite a good angle as well because you can see the the wheel arches what makes this guy different to the old one is that we've got the swooping tailgate so the old generation rs6 was a little bit more utilitarian looking because the tailgate was a little more upright well they've managed to make this car swoopier without losing any of the boot capacity which is really rather clever when i saw the base car i thought what are you going to do to the rs-6 to make it wider arched because that was already quite curvaceous and well exactly as expected really they've made it even wider black mirror casings as well so it really is just a very understated thing this have a look inside the understatement continues in here so we've got black leather unlike the a4s rs4s silver leather we've got wood which came as a bit of a shock when i first saw this but it works really well gives that sort of air of designer luxury alcantara there it's a proper audi interior no compromises here nice carp that you'd have in your house it's beautiful of course what was that a bit controversial wasn't the quality but the way that most of the buttons have now gone so this came with the a6 and yeah it takes a bit of getting used to but when you do it's it's pretty easy to use it's not the best position down here for climate control um but it's all right this is a little bit higher in the rs4 which i prefer but it works pretty well so let's just give it a test drive so you can see it's pretty responsive there's some nice haptic feedback to it and let's go into our rs monitor some sort of yeah look at that if you're a geek you will love all this stuff sport differential as well on this car which gives it a bit more of a neutral handling in corners so let's try rs mode so you can program your mode here as you want it and then you can select it with this button here and then when your wife tells you to turn it down a bit you can just press it twice and you're back to auto mode where the car is pretty much as refined as any other a6 so lots of wood down here which really does work well i can't really believe it but it's lovely and then we still got a volume knob there we haven't got the touch pad on the a3 so that's quite nice it's very tactile as well that's proper haptic feedback slab of wood across there air vents that don't really go right across the dash but i quite like that i don't like them being too obvious and that works really well for me we've got this sort of stitching here that does do something it joins these two bits of either leather or fake leather but the general ambiance is excellent really is seats are lovely they're sporty-ish but they're designed to take all bodies and i think they're a bit bigger than they used to be because i can sit in there perfectly well with my head on the on the back rest that's good this carbine of all sprung has got the panoramic glass sunroof which is always a nice touch there's so many options with it you have it tilted up you have it open you have it closed you have the blind drawn and the roof open it's so so really nice to have you out and of course we've got virtual cockpit so this has been out now for six years and uh you can alter it to suit please note we've got normal buttons on this car they're not the weird ones you get on the new golf which are pretty tricky to use so that's nice they're a bit haptic as well so yeah it's a very pleasant cabin but then you probably knew that didn't you it's a proper audi interior right let's have a look in the back then because you don't buy one of these to drive it on your own you can just do that in an r8 so let's see how many other members of your crew you can carry but i feel like recreating layer cake pretend mr mortimer's there yes morty about in time right here we are in the back then on the way to rob a bank or dielsen class a's it's going to the duke yeah it's great it's um it doesn't feel as spacious as the rs4 because it's not as light it's just a trick of light interiors they do make the car feel more spacious it's a little bit more claustrophobic um but it's good there's lots of knee room yeah mr morton has a big bloke and i think they can all sit behind him pretty comfort comfortably yeah it's good it feels like there's a little bit more headroom but yeah very good how much loots can you get in the back though they've got power tailgate nothing unusual these days so yeah you can get quite a bit of stuff in there for import exports yeah just have to be careful because this is almost 45 degrees because it this is a crucial part of the car to making it look sporty it's almost like a sport back about this because that's just so sleek there's almost room for another model that's a bit more boxy but uh you know if you pack carefully i'm sure you get pretty much whatever you need in here and you can fold the seats down of course putting these levers there which i won't do i'll probably forget to put them up right that's the boring bit done now i want to take you on my first drive in the audi rs6 okay guys well here we are inside the newish audi rs6 i've been waiting a long time to say those words yeah it's good to be in the car today so big thanks to audi uk and it's a good way of getting to know the car particularly on bumpy little tracks like this i've got the car in comfort mode got 22 inch wheels and do you know what it feels even softer than the rs4 this this road is it's like a causeway over some bog land and it's got a real high center bit as well which is much more suited to the quattro uh q sort of three four uh five cars that we've got here to test today and even the e-tron we have here so yeah i can report that this car is super comfy in comfort mode it's surreal actually but that's probably not what you want to know about an rs6 if you want to know how pretty wild it is so let's stick it into dynamic mode and go and find a good road once again okay here we are driving the audi rs6 advance and i put it into dynamic mode and amazingly it writes even better than the rs4 did in dynamic mode it's amazing because it's got two tons to keep in check which we'll find out if it can do in the corner shortly but um yeah it rides like a normal car the rs4 rode well in dynamic mode it wasn't comfy it was like a sports car even like a super car like the r8 this feels like a normal car which is a shame really because the ride rightly or wrongly makes you feel like you're in something special if it's a little bit firmer than an a6 diesel but it doesn't actually feel it even on these less than perfect lost churros it feels supple which makes you wonder what will it do in corners with all that weight well we'll find out shortly what you do get in this car you don't get in the rs4 is the v8 rumble it feels like frank bullets mustang in the film bullets so there's always this cultured v8 waffle to it i love that there's all sorts of coughs and pops as well it's pure pure muscle which is remarkable considering that they've strapped two turbos to it and they normally mop up all the noise amazing if you get fed up with that obviously in other modes it can be quieter but it's always there burbling away that's really cool now we're in manual mode let's just drop in second and yeah it feels pretty precise it's definitely not as controlled as the rs4 that's a little bit lighter and i think it's just been set up to be a little bit sportier you could probably track a an rs4 if you were crazy enough to do that i'm not sure this car would feel particularly enjoyable doing it because it does feel a little bit soft but don't think that means it doesn't go around corners because it does there are a lot of electronics that work to keep this car feeling nice and neutral unlike the old car which would push on you know the first opportunity this is a very very well controlled car so on the brakes yeah it just feels a little bit heavier but wow that was nice and you've got to remember the speeds you can do where the law allows around these corners are going to be absolutely mind-blowing and that brings me on to the the next point really that this car was designed for the autobahn but apparently at the next elections in 2021 in germany unlimited autobahns are not going to happen you'll be stuck 70 or 80 from all of germany um which means that these cars really are going to lose their um points to a large degree so being able to go around corners for once in an rs6 sweetly is very well timed because you can always enjoy that and stay within the law as well 60 miles an hour on roads like this it's perfectly enjoyable and this isn't even a particularly sinuous road and that's kind of the slight problem with the rs6 but it does feel a bit bigger it feels sort of r8 sort of width on these kind of roads so you do need to keep that in mind but it it doesn't feel like a big car to drive it feels very sort of compact but it is wise so you'll have to you know be very careful when you meet stuff on a road you'll be winching a lot of times when lorries are running the white line as well so yeah but it's an incredible piece of engineering i think to drive i prefer the rs4 to look at i prefer the rs6 yeah it's a special car i actually prefer the interior of the rs4 as well so for me personally that would be the winner but i don't think it has a wrong car well maybe it's the rs6 it sounds amazing anyway guys i hope you enjoyed this vlogs wizard video if you have please give it a thumbs up please comment i try and respond to as many as possible and please please subscribe if there's 300 people watching this video not subscribed please do subscribe because that will get me to 25 000 which is the key sort of subscriber
