okay now remove the dog house again and today i'm going to do a video where i don't want to pause it i want to try to do this in real time for you see how long it really takes i already forgot the first step which is moving the seats back all the way seat back up to full position slide the seat back all the way just make sure this one's back all the way it is t30 torx bit i'm doing this because yesterday the van threw a code uh well you know the engine light came on and i brought it over to autozone used their code reader and it was said it was misfiring on number three the only suggestion it gave to fix it was uh replacing the intake manifold gasket if you could believe that so i put it online on one of the forums on uh one of the astro van pages on facebook i'm i participate in several i don't participate in them as much anymore because i have my own astro van tribe page a lot of the information you get there is not always great and it's a lot of people want to jump to the worst case scenario a lot of the time which i find odd but i get it oh that's me jumping to things here i forgot to undo these bolts on the bottom 13 millimeter wrench supposed to remove these first i fouled up there anyhow like some of the suggestions you get there it's pretty crazy and i get it man people are shell-shocked i mean some of you have gone through horrible experiences time and again with your vehicle a lot of times because you're just not mechanics you know i'm not a mechanic either and so you know we're going by what people tell us and trial and error and uh you know sometimes it really can be the worst case scenario but i've been working on cars since before i was old enough to drive and i found that most of the time i mean unless there's been some catastrophic failure most of the time it's not the worst case scenario most of the time it's just something simple you always start with the simple stuff when you're troubleshooting now this is a modern vehicle to me i mean it's a 2004 so it's not modern but the beauty of it is it does have that receptacle under the dashboard where you can plug a reader in and it tells you what your problems are that's amazing because the vehicle i had before this was a 67 dodge pickup this bolt on this side always gives me a hard so i hate this freaking thing every time every single time come on all right every time that bolt on this side gives me a hard freaking time this one fell out already okay here we go got a lot of stuff in this uh we gotta disconnect this here got a lot of stuff in my glove box in this thing gotta be careful with it last time i dumped it all out you guys didn't see that on camera okay here we go so as i was saying i'm coming off of using you know driving a vintage pickup truck where i literally assembled a whole new motor for that thing how to get a short block i hired a guy to rebuild that motor and when he did it i got it back and the thing ran so cool but then i ended up it's your heater deflector whatever you want to call it the guy that rebuilt the motor my 67 dodge was a v8 318 mopar and he reused the old original oil pump and i was driving that thing back from san francisco i had it pinned 100 miles an hour for quite some time and next thing i knew i had no oil pressure and i tore up the whole bottom end so i disassembled that engine had on the floor of my shop met a guy got a movie set here's your 15 millimeter thing here remember to disconnect this ground i'm gonna get these bolts out here and i met this guy in a movie set he was super cool certified mechanic ferrari mechanic everything owned a bunch of cool muscle cars we became friends for years he took me to a place to buy a short block he brought a uh parts washer and engine hoist over to my apartment and i rebuilt that entire engine myself with him holding my hand in my parking space where i still live today so the thing with that which is here clicking you know that that screws all the way out so the thing about you know the old dodge was i was just lucky because i knew a guy that knew everything and i had some good basic knowledge myself obviously i've been doing it for a long time and it was so simple i think it was like driving a tractor down the street yeah i mean it's very very simple no computers at all i put electronic ignition in it and dual exhaust posi traction rear end i actually i was driving back from the beach one time and the rear end was wobbling on me when i would take my foot off the gas pedal and block from my house the bolt had backed off the the rear end there and it just locked everything up and blew apart the pieces in the middle of the road i think well if i need a new rear end i'll put a posi in it and that's what i did that truck was a race car man i missed that truck i just didn't miss wrenching on it all the time or the horrible gas mileage there was an albatross around my neck so i really like this thing and it's been pretty good to me just these little things okay so again i threw a code told me i was misfiring on number three i just reached underneath through the wheel well and messed with that plug under there and it was tight so i wanted to pull this dog house over you could watch the time that's how long it took just double check i mean that's in there man yeah snug that up a little bit okay i mean everything's tight i'm usually pretty good about that so here's the thing i threw the engine light came on yesterday went to autozone checked it so it was misfire number three went outside last night in the dark turned the key on it was engine light was still on i was looking for sparks in the engine bay there from underneath the wheel well see if it was disconnected nothing got up this morning turned the truck on no engine light so i don't think it's anything serious uh let's see what else it could be wires look good that's interesting i didn't bring the read out with me oh firing order three okay so that's it's the first wire it's actually going to the middle okay it's number the ones up front the fives in the back okay all right well i mean everything seems tight to me i think i'm golden i'm good here so i don't know no engine light so hopefully it's nothing now look i wanted to do this i wanted to take this apart again with you guys in real time i'm going to check the time well screw it i'm just going to put this all back together let's see how long it takes in and out you get better at things the more you do them i mean i'm a craftsman being a craftsman for as long as i have the only thing that helped me get good at it was practice and i was lucky over the years where enough people trusted me wanted to give me money to do things for us i got to do things over and over and over again and when i first started i did do practice on my own i took on little projects that i just did for myself because i wanted to practice joinery that sort of thing i went nuts learning how to do butterfly mortises i started with dutchman patches and that's one of the more difficult things to accomplish check the other side because there's a piece of plastic there can get hung up on [Music] there it is we're good that feels like we're in there so again the more you do things the more proficient and efficient you shall become don't ever be afraid to try something because i mean if you know it's been done by someone else there's no reason why you can't do it that was the thing i had when i was uh i was in paris island you know a lot of guys would be afraid of things swim qual repelling repelling was funny uh i was never afraid in boot camp never i've never really been afraid of much of anything i just had a father who was a child soldier and growing up with his stories and then just applying common sense all the time i'm re attaching this ground wire here if it can be done by anyone else no reason why you can't do it have that mindset you shall overcome let's see this goes in next [Music] is that's on there that's all put back together now we got this wire here hooked back up um mess with the carpet here i don't usually do this i usually screw it afterwards but this is fine let's get the clips lined up i mean we're just about done here just about done here let's see that's what takes the most time is looking for your tools right or the bolt you just had in your hand or the pencil you were going to search around for a pencil for 20 minutes that's what kills me in the shop man that's why when i designed my custom apron i got a whole row of pencil slots at the top on an angle so as you sharpen your pencil the short pencils won't fall all the way down to nowhere no man's land you won't waste time fingering them things out a little out of alignment here it's normal just a little clip here so we'll use a little pressure on this to get the tip to force it to line up there we go i find it's better it's easier to just spin it freely if it does spin freely with your fingers before utilizing the ratchet it's like a waste of time you know get it as close as you can so you can't turn anymore with your fingers and then then use the tool here i'll tighten that up afterwards now i just got to get these bottom bolts in and we're done so get that started i looked at the video when i did this a couple weeks ago and uh huh what do you know missing a bolt already oh wait a second it's underneath here i forgot it fell out it's underneath the carpet on this side that'll happen you know you'll lose something it's just underneath something else don't panic think about it methodically you'll find it so when i was watching the video when i did this last time it was pretty dirty in here and afterwards i went ahead and vacuumed this out cleaned it up real nice and i've been working on it in it out of it ever since so it's already dirty again and then there's one side i'll tell you every time anyhow i'm going to go ahead and all this is now is tightening down these bolts there we go once we get it started i'll say farewell to you for now turn the camera off see how long this video took and now you know complete doghouse dashboard disassembly reassembly within 17 minutes 18. you got to give away for talking have a great day be good to each other
