TBH, it is not mainstream food. it is more like an exotic food
Not sure what you mean by mainstream or exotic. They are considered a delicacy in my country. Some may like them due to their taste, others may find it creepy due to their appearance. I am sure you have a similar equivalent in your country whereever you live.

This is a regular fish market that can be found in big cities in Korea, but the most famous ones are in Jeju and Busan. You go around the stalls, haggle with the owners, and once you buy your fish/seafood, you can get it prepared at a nearby restaurant for a small fee. It is the freshest sashimi you can eat, and the restaurant will prepare other side dishes as well as make a spicy soup out of the bones/leftovers.
I always recommend people to go to one at least once, even if they are not a fan of seafood, just for the experience. If you love sushi/sashimi, it is a no-brainer to visit one. I would go more often but it can get very expensive eating like this all the time haha.
