[Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] ah [Music] [Applause] so [Music] well well well well well ladies and gentlemen 4 30 central standard time coming to you guys live from the dcf studio friday july 24th one week away from the dcf floral contest ladies and gentlemen we are live welcome back guys it has been uh two weeks off and boy have i missed it you know what let's go ahead let's get the mic a little low let's do that let's get that even closer how's everybody doing on this beautiful friday let's see here it has been uh oh no now you can see it now you can see it we don't want that a little higher let's see nope nope still see it still see it okay all right we got to raise it a bit bear with me how's that nope still see it all right there we go here we go there we go there we go ladies and gentlemen one more week till the dcf floral contest cannot wait to see that 109 people already in the chat thank you guys so much for joining us uh like i said uh been a crazy week i have been slammed with uh football cleats and man i'm rusty i am rusty usually once i'm in the middle of it once i'm in the thick of it for that four to five months i'm flying through these multiple multiple per day most of the time and uh i'm just a little rusty so sometimes the ideas come to you a lot quicker than other times but for the most part the nfl guys they're usually ordering a bunch at a time and usually giving me creative freedom or sending you know kind of somewhat simplistic um reference images to get inspiration from so sometimes you know we just have to draw uh we got to come up with a lot of ideas and so that's what it's been this week just uh trying to get back in the swing of doing a lot of cleats um super hyped about uh the the video that we put out wednesday that's a video that uh is a topic and and something that we talk about all the time here on these live streams just sort of my advice for when you're just starting out and getting the ball rolling and and what you should do and everything that we mentioned in that video is certainly you know uh questions that we've answered here in these live streams hey what advice do you have for me just starting out and we wanted to kind of put that into a nice compact video try to put everything together in six minutes or so which is not easy for me to do guys all right when when there's a short video just know just know that when we have short videos it's uh it's not easy and we have to we have to really compact things down because i'm a talker and it's hard for me to put everything into nice tight little uh short sentences and quick little hitters so that's why i just really sometimes enjoy these these streams because i can take a long time to answer the questions and really answer them in detail but that doesn't work the best for you know the youtube algorithm and viewer watch retention and all that and and not everybody wants to listen to me rant for a long time so um let's see here uh how we doing guys how are we doing tons of people here in the uh chat right now uh let's see marlon says football cleats sports is a thing again now yeah we have uh the nba i think comes back next uh tuesday the uh mls tournament is uh past the group stage baseball started yesterday uh my white sox play in uh two hours so hey uh even if it's without fans sports are trying to come back so uh let's see let's see guys um so some other cool things that uh we have coming up next week it should be ready to launch we will have um a discord and uh no i have never i've never been in a discord um jason is sort of spearhorning that project he's in a couple different ones and uh but it's something that we've talked about here you know should we start a a facebook group should we start a uh a subreddit and we settled on a discord so next week that should be ready to launch i'm gonna need a few um i'm gonna need a few mods so if any of my mods here on youtube are interested in being mods in the uh discord that would be that would be super helpful too so if you guys are down with that let me know if anybody else wants to be a mod in that discord let me know uh you know kind of just monitor the chat make sure that nobody's getting out of line and just there to help answer and refer people to you know a lot of the typical questions they might uh have some of the other things that we have set up in there that are going to be pretty fun we're going to have a customizer of the week section we're going to have uh just just quite a few things it's going to be it's going to be a fun time you know you know us guys we're all about positivity and trying to uplift this community so this is just going to be another another uh platform to do that on so we're excited about that and then we are going to be launching our newsletter next week now that is going to be another weekly thing um that we will have some exclusive giveaways on we're going to be uh announcing upcoming things we're gonna do uh random stencil releases on there that we won't be releasing quite to the public sort of just through the newsletter uh in limited quantities that we'll have sort of ready to ship right away things like that um we're gonna that's gonna be a fun one we're excited to do that so we're just trying to uh dabble in some other things and uh we've put a lot of time into making these things you know up to our standards before we're ready to drop them so we are uh excited about those two things but we did get a super chat came in here let me see uh boss 4 eg thank you buddy really appreciate that it says i wanted to know if you can use rit dye in place of angela's dye to dye suede or nubuck shoes so uh from my understanding rit has uh a couple d rit has a fabric only die don't they let me pull that up real quick i think they have i think they have two different dies i think they have their regular dye but then i think they like an all-purpose die and then i think they have a strictly fabric one let me see here real quick [Music] um let's see i'm on ritz website that's for synthetics back to black dye kit uh glitter fixative let's see i think they have a fabric um let's see i'm seeing the synthetic one uh the rit dye is pretty strong stuff though is the fabric the powder so this is yeah they do have a fabric dye synthetic fabric yeah um and they have a lot of color so i would guess that you i would guess that you could i would think so i would think that you could use the the fabric rit dye if you wanted to let me know boss let me know what shoes you're uh trying to do that on because because i'm curious and i would love to know more about those results also but i do believe you could if you use the fabric one i wouldn't use the all-purpose die and any time you anytime you work with dye one thing you always have to worry about that i would be extremely concerned about with those is the dye never really fully drying meaning that even if you waited multiple days or weeks that still to the touch let's just say you were working on a shoe that i know has a lot of sweater nubuck like let's just say a jordan 7 bordeaux and you were trying to dye it if that die never dries you know you might um you might run into that issue of where you touch it and you still get a little bit of dye which you uh absolutely would not want so i would be a little cautious about that uh let's see here we have another super chat from danny chattaway uh says can you paint the suede on vans yes so if you do plan on painting the suede on vans you want to mix some too soft it's a little bit more important to mix too soft into your base layers okay now i think that there's a little bit of i'm not going to call it a misconception but some people think that like fabric not fabric but like suede or canvas can't crack and it can if you layer the paint on too thick so let's just say for example you're painting like a pair of uh vape vans on the canvas vans it's more important to do too soft in the initial base coat layers sort of your background color rather than it is when you're doing like the tiny little details but you can also use it the entire time to play it safe but sometimes too soft essentially waters it down a little bit to where it's going to take a few more coats so sometimes you just need to be there's a little bit of a trade-off if you use more too soft to try to keep it nice and soft it might take more coats but if you remove some of that too soft it might paint a little easier but you could potentially run that risk of paint cracking which you don't want you know what i mean so uh yes let's see here yes so if you guys uh uh i see some people saying it if anybody's down for being a mod in the uh uh in that discord upcoming let me know shoot me uh you know what shoot i'm gonna send it to jason shoot a uh shoot an email to jason jason at dejesusync.com jason j-a-s-o-n at dejesus inc inc.com shoot him an email let him know let him know that would be cool uh super chat from elijah says let's say i'm not so artistic quite yet what would be the best practice would i use stencils you know i didn't real i didn't really use any stencils i didn't use an airbrush for my first few years i didn't have a stencil cutter for like my first six years so saying that you need an airbrush or that you need stencils right away to start i just don't think that's true you can get by uh simply doing you can do a lot of stuff with a paintbrush you know what i mean not even getting into airbrush or anything yet so um do would the bed best practice be stencils i think the best practice would be no stencils just really get a feel for uh you know free-handing things that's when you're really going to develop you know that uh hand-eye coordination when it comes to painting so i would i would say that you don't need them to start now um i'm not so artistic so one thing that you might want to do rather than using a stencil sort of just give yourself a nice little map using something like our image transfer technique that we have a couple of videos on and this way you just have a nice map to follow essentially you're now going to be coloring in the lines rather than sort of just like trying to freehand like a spongebob character on a pair of shoes and just drawing him from reference you know if you sort of transfer that image on there with that uh tracing paper technique that we've shown a couple of times then um i think that uh that that would be some uh good practice for you so thank you for sending in that super chat buddy uh let's see uh my man ruxin is in here rups's youtube video is coming soon rexy let us know do we have a date on the video yet and uh am i gonna get to see it before everybody else let me know man rexy uh finally peer pressure works guys we've been pressuring him for a long time to join youtube and he has uh a cool project upcoming i know what the project is i haven't seen the video but uh it's gonna be pretty exciting uh let's see a super chat comes in from meli174 thank you so much really appreciate you guys supporting the channel in that way i missed you guys two weeks off but we needed it i i really had a lot of projects to uh catch up on yeah it was uh i i i did get a lot done by taking those uh taking the time off to do those thankfully um but yeah we have uh a lot of stuff that we were uh getting done we have a couple cool video i say this all the time because i truly do think all of our videos are cool we put a lot of time into them but uh the next two videos are uh pretty cool ones um i would say that one of them falls in line sort of with the video this week of great tips for anybody starting out it's uh the working title is something like beginner customizer mistakes something avoid these something like that the title is gonna be uh something along those lines but it's a good one because it's uh it goes through a lot of misconceptions and common little myths about sneaker customizing so that's a good one i see a lot of questions about um [Music] uh will we be reviewing some instagrams yes i am down i am down we will do that um let's see let's see uh so i do see a couple people saying i i will bring it up don't uh don't spam guys um obviously you can see some of the mods take care of that pretty quickly i i tried to get to as many questions as possible um but you know feel free to ask it again but don't you know constantly spam it over that's just that's not gonna speed anything up and really i do try to get to as many of the questions as possible and you know if you're asking a lot of questions sometimes other people in the chat are are more than happy to answer which is phenomenal or they'll sort of reference a video that we might have done to point you to which is which is super cool so uh let's see uh the realist says to be honest i make ghetto stencils i sketch image out cut the paper and paint in the color then go in and do line work it really works well yeah there's there's so many ways that you could get by doing it i honestly had never seen anybody else do um like character work and stencil work the way that serato does it with like his little cutouts and uh it's super cool because obviously he's incredibly talented and does incredible character work so to see him have such a unique technique is awesome and the only reason that i sort of do sometimes that image transfer thing if i'm not using a stencil is because i picked up that technique in architecture school uh the funny reason i learned that is because i had a project due so your studio projects are always due on mondays in architecture school so sunday night um your you sunday night is guaranteed all nighter the day before a studio project and architecture school so you know it's sunday night probably close to midnight and i realize i am absolutely nowhere near done on this drawing and it was this repetitive drawing i think i was i had to copy over something i can't even remember exactly but somebody showed me uh this this tracing paper technique of draw it on here flip it over and mirror it and then you can you can zoom through this and so i picked up that trick in architecture school and all of a sudden it applied really well to uh painting shoes which is awesome um let's see let's see here natalia says sometimes when using vinyl stencils after removing it i can see a height difference on the paint like you can feel the line to the touch is there any way to avoid that so natalia i'm not sure if you're airbrushing or hand painting those stencils that's going to be a little less common if you're airbrushing since more less pain is applied if you're airbrushing versus hand painting but if you are hand painting you may not have an airbrush uh the way to go about that is definitely try to do as thin of coats as possible because you can definitely run into that with a vinyl where it sort of just ends up being a little thicker because it has potentially you know five to six more coats so if it's with an airbrush you're able to control that a little easier than if you do with a paintbrush uh let's see another super chat here from metal screamer vlogs after your video wednesday i bought some supplies for a cartoon spider air force one custom just wanted to say thanks awesome metal screamer i am really excited to see those cartoon spider that's very cool definitely shoot me a dm with those once you are done with them i would love to love to see that i would love to see that uh another super chat here from gym donut what a cool name uh best way best glue to stick synthetic letter to air force ones i would use barge cement um but uh yes here we go so you can pick this up on uh amazon or something like that maybe your local hardware store but i would use some type of gotta block my face and then i'll show a little better some type of barge cement uh you can get this little tube for probably somewhere around seven dollars or so on amazon so not too bad yep uh let's see another super chat here from walker says black and gold 12s came out today the upper leather is matte black the midsole is glossy black how do i turn the matte to glossy or vice versa god bless let me pull those up there's so many shoe releases that to be honest i can't even keep up with uh everything that drops and when it does and whatnot um it's funny before social media really was was off to a boom when i was in college in like 2011 and 12 when i was getting into sneaker customizing when i was when i was in school i would spend all my time on sneaker blogs literally like sneakernews.com nicekicks.com this is before instagram so you would literally go on like the blog website and i knew the release date the release calendar for the entire year what what jordan retro was coming out of every month what day and uh but over these past few years now that they release you know multiple things per month they used to only release one retro per month but now there's there's so many so it's it's impossible to keep up okay so i have these um and the question is the midsole is glossy black how do i turn the matte to glossier vice versa okay so one thing that you could do since there's not often will you hear me even give advice on painting midsoles because they're not that likely to hold up because they hardly hold up from the factory one thing you could do if we are looking at the small um the the tiny little black midsole panel there uh right here it's glossy obviously you can't see on my tiny phone but one thing that you could do is tape off everything around the midsole and then just hit that with something like the liquid kicks uh flat finisher and that finisher is so strong that it would turn that midsole uh nice and flat and it would remove that gloss and probably i would do two light coats of that if you wanted to make that uh nice and matte so that's what i would do it rather than telling you to acetone it all off um and then repaint it just to make it you know a nice flat black again and then hit it with the finisher so that's what i would do but great question great question uh let's see uh super chat from dragon customs do you prefer 631 or 651 for stencils i actually prefer neither i use oracal 811 so i buy it in one of these nice big rolls i buy it in the 24 inch rolls of course when you buy things in bulk bigger it's cheaper and on the back here let me on the back of the roll you'll see try to get that in focus maybe or or cal 811 this is the one that i always use this is better than 651 and then that's the that's the stencil i recommend majority of the time as you get better working with vinyl stencils you really know what you're doing when it comes to prep that's when i would use move into the fdc 3700 glitter vinyl now this is extremely strong stuff um and if you don't prep your shoes correctly this is going to tear your paint job up so i do not recommend this to everybody unless you have worked with vinyl stencils before and you know that you're prepping and painting your shoes correctly because it will absolutely tear your project up so you need to be careful when using that stuff uh ron customs with the super chat what's up grandson what's up ron how you doing buddy i am really looking forward to seeing your pair for the uh dcf floral contest man really looking forward to that uh let's see here oh i do have something that i want to give away here in the uh chat um let's see i do so i have one of these i featured this in a video before called like amazon essentials you need or something like that this is just a nice little rolling cart where you can store a lot of stuff it has these four shelves uh two that are uh you know nice and small and then two deeper ones and then the top is really cool because it uh let me turn it so that the shelves don't come out the top you could put your paintbrushes and and things like that right here which is kind of cool other little stuff throw your phone on there whatever the case may be so um i have an extra one of these i i keep one of these around the studio forever sometimes i'm moving around painting in different locations just great for storage you'd be able to keep a lot of different stuff in here nothing crazy but uh if you're interested in this i want to see your workspace i just think i i love seeing other people's workspaces so go ahead uh take picture of it post it to your instagram and then uh tag me at dejesus custom footwear and use the toothpickgang on your instagram story post and i will pick a winner later tonight if you want one of these so you can sort of see the uh height of it the size of it and then uh the wheels it does have wheels are are in there those go right on the bottom and then you'll be able to wheel it around and store a lot of your stuff so pretty cool i just have an extra one of these uh that we used for a video and uh yeah i want to hook one of you guys up with it so go ahead and do those so take a picture of your uh workspace uh tag me at the hazel's custom footwear on instagram and use the hashtag toothpicking and uh yeah let's see uh cw customs when's the iceberg and toothpick merge coming out that's a good one the iceberg is uh the iceberg i like that that that'll definitely have to make it onto uh a piece of merch for sure i always use that as a reference it's only made it into one video where i've actually shown an iceberg illustration but that's a good one buddy uh kong says do you ever do traditional artworks like on canvas or any digital paintings that aren't mock-ups uh i have done a few canvases or any digital paintings that aren't mock-ups i don't consider myself that strong of a digital artist to to to be truthful with you it's one of those things where i know sort of like my um my my my portrait experiment that i really need to carve out the time to really just sit down and do like uh the app that i prefer is procreate just do it every single day for multiple hours for a month and then i know i'd start to feel a whole lot more comfortable with it that's something that i definitely would like to do because i would like to be a stronger digital artist but i've done quite a few canvases i have a few canvases that i've painted in the studio uh it's something that i'd i'd love to do more of but it's it's it's one of those things that i just truthfully always push to the side and say yeah i'd love to you know carve out some time to to do that and whatnot but you know unless you really force yourself to carve out that time it's never coming you know what i mean so something i definitely want to do more of something that you've probably seen in a couple of videos i have this cool skyline one that i did because i'm a proud chicago and as you guys could tell from the uh the logo in case you guys didn't know the chicago skyline is what's at the top of the dcf logo um so yes something i definitely want to do more of more canvases and more digital illustrations so yeah great question man and you're out in seattle right seattle just got a new uh hockey team the kraken i thought that was so badass man the the kraken one of the it might be recency bias i might be off my rocker but i just feel that's one of the the coolest team team names in sports and and i i have to show this because these are the little details that matter guys and this even translates to custom sneakers sometimes it's the little details that bring it all together look at um look at the logo for the crack in here the um what's the big tower in uh seattle called guys what's that uh somebody tell me in the skyline the one pointy tower let me know here let me know here in the chat what the little tower is in seattle i can't think of the i can't think of the name of uh the building and i feel like a knucklehead um something point isn't it something point tower let me know the space needle the space needle there it is there it is okay so let's take a look here just flip over real quick so take a look at this they're the kraken and their logo here of course is an anchor but it's an anchor that then transforms into the space needle that's so good it's so simple but it's so good i love that the seattle kraken i'm like man what a cool name so uh you know those little details right there turning the anchor into the space needle like sometimes when you can do just little things like that in your custom sneakers that's what uh can take you to a uh another level uh so let's see here anthony miller art says what temperature do you set your heat gun to while customizing the the heat gun that i actually have doesn't um it doesn't have a temperature setting it just has one setting on or off um so so to be honest with you i'm not sure what temperature it does get to but i know it gets a lot um hotter than like a typical blow dryer so a lot of people ask can you use a hair dryer versus a heat gun you can for the most part if you're just trying to dry paint but if you're trying to heat set a material like a sock liner that's when you need heat not just air so that's why sometimes you do need a heat gun so a great way to think about those uh this is getting a little sciency and something that i've talked about in the live stream before but somewhat the comparison of heat gun vs uh blow dryer is picture a hot summer day okay now you get out of uh you get out of the the water or a swimming pool you dry a lot faster if there's a bit of a breeze if it's a little windy versus if it's just hot you know what i mean so sometimes you can hop out of the pool and let's say there's there's no breeze but it's just a scorching hot day let's say it's 100 degrees you're gonna drive faster with a little bit of wind versus just in that direct heat so the blow dryer is good for drying the paint you know what i mean but it's not great for the heat purposes that's needed for you know keeping fabrics nice and soft now i'm totally off topic talking about that but somebody uh i saw somebody make that um um reference before and i thought that was i thought that was really good so uh sam basler says have you seen moshe's new shoes he came out with today yes i did that was awesome what does he call him the centralias or the uh let's see what's what's the name of the shoe dimash um yes centralias super cool man super i'm i'm so high perform um i'm just a fan of creators and customizers as a whole so to uh to see him do that is is is awesome very cool and uh and i hope i'm able to get a pair for sure for sure to uh just support him and i think it's a great looking shoe too and it totally falls in line with his style and it has a great backstory mash is the goat you know what i mean he's the best to ever uh he's the best to ever pick up a paintbrush you know what i mean and lay it down onto a pair of shoes bar none you know what i mean he's the uh he's the mj we're all chasing he's the one with the six rings you know what i mean so um you know basketball is the only sport where i think there's a undeniable best player of all time i don't think uh if you if you asked a thousand people you're gonna get a lot of different answers if you ask who's the best football player of all time you know what i mean john montana tom brady jerry rice you'll hear a lot of things if you say the best baseball player of all time well do you say barry bonds because he has the most home runs do you say nolan ryan because so many no hitters do you say you know what i mean who do you say when you know in soccer do you say messy right now do you say pele uh um you know basketball is the only sport where there's a definitive best of all time that you really just can't deny it which is cool that it's mike um but yeah i i'm really excited uh and of course right away my thought is man would i be down to design a pair of shoes and if you guys watched uh mash's video he says in the video which is really cool he's like i've sort of always wondered if i would be able to do this because i've always viewed myself as more of an artist than a designer and i i absolutely feel the same way that you know i don't spend a lot of time designing potential shoes but if i were to do it i think that i would want to right off the bat come out with two shoes because i don't think that i would ever be able to settle on just one style you know what i mean i just think right away if i did it i would have to come out with two for you know two very like very distinct styles like i love the simplicity and and of certain shoes like vans or stan smiths how they're you know certainly very narrow and simplistic but then i also love stuff that's that's bulkier and and has layers and panels sort of like that moshu you know what i mean so i feel right off the bat i would have to come out with two but uh i'm so excited for him so super cool to to see that uh let's see super chat comes in here from james ladson i'm new to customizing and want to try hydro dip what all do i need that i can pick up from michael's or home depot on a budget so james let me know what uh pair of shoes you plan on hydro dipping on because i hydro dipped a pair of shoes and uh i did them on vans so they're all canvas and i just used spray paint okay i just used the rust-oleum brand i believe it was we we have a video on that if you're interested in checking that out we show the products that we used and um they i sent them out to a youtube subscriber to wear and he wore them for a couple months sent them back and they held up great i do not believe they would hold up as good on um i do not believe they would hold up as good on leather as they did on canvas um just because the the paint's a lot thicker when it comes to spray paint so i think if you were going to do leather or any other shoe like that i would probably recommend i would probably recommend that you would use the hydro dip film rather than just the spray paints but my experiment with it was uh the the advice i have is that you need to spray really fast my first time around if you check out our video i i failed pretty miserably because i went a little bit too slow with spraying the paint into the water and it just sort of created this weird film so you can pick up uh the rust-oleum spray paints is what i used uh the first time around but they also have a lot of different films on amazon that you can try um let's see i just got a text from my dad because i'm because i'm talking sports so papa de jesus says tell him your dad said michael could cover bill russell but bill russell could could never guard michael you know bill probably has a good what six or seven inches on mj though so that might uh that might be that would be a pretty interesting game of uh one-on-one to watch but yeah i mean my goodness uh you know builder russell even with all that height mj might be able to stop him a couple times in the post but you know bill would obviously have no chance guarding mike so there's a lot of great jokes about you know bill russell played in that in the era of only going against janitors and and things like that the competition just wasn't the same as when michael was around so that's why uh bill was able to gather so many rings uh let's see here uh andy cuttingham says do you have to be an amazing do you have to be amazing at art to create shoes with your style or finish of design does it help to be good at or what's your best technique to make them realistic so the way that i like to answer this question is do you have to be athletic to play sports you don't have to but it certainly helps you know what i mean um so if you're not artistic you might just struggle a little bit more at just basic things but you know like practicing anything you'll get better over time so it only helps if you're artistic to start but it's not the most bear with me guys okay that looks good that looks good i believe you guys can hear me you can see me yeah let me know let me know let's he's back he's back he's back he's back all right he's back let's see so super chat came in from boredom and it says i just started an instagram for my shoes what's the best way to get it out there so if you check out wednesday's video one thing that i recommend doing is just really building out that instagram like it's a portfolio trying to get as much content on there as possible because let's say you just started this instagram and you maybe posted one or two or three or four times it's hard for people to view you as legit when you have that few of post you know what i mean so if you can have five projects but create 10 pieces of content around each of those five projects now all of a sudden you have 50 pieces of content on instagram that's gonna just make you look all the more legit so definitely try to build that out you know what i mean when you're just starting we need a little bit of quantity okay we don't want to sacrifice all of our qua all of our quality but we need a little bit of quantity so um other than that the best way to get it out there i would i would i would consider uh painting some shoes for um for uh some influencers whether they be on instagram or tic tac and just try to um or there's some pages where you can pay for ads something like that like a like a page i don't know if they still do it like customizer depot you might be able to say hey how much for a post and i don't know what they charge maybe 5 10 bucks maybe 20 bucks maybe 50 bucks i have no idea what they charge but you know they have a nice big following to get uh some of your stuff out there so that's definitely something to consider also uh dustin montez says what transfer tape do you use i use green star lay flat classic transfer tape i believe i picked that up on uscutter.com uh let's see uh v millen mylan says uh what did you major in in college and what electives would you recommend that could help better sneaker customs i went to uh college for architecture i took only one painting class and we did a lot of um watercolor and then the next semester well it wasn't an all painting class it might have been called i can't remember what it was called it was just an art class but then we did a lot of charcoal drawings and we even had to do uh nude still lifes so that was uh the extent of the art that i was taking in college but yeah anything that's gonna get you creating you know what i mean even if it's digital you know sometimes designing digitally can help you become a better customizer because sometimes it's not just about the painting it's about the planning also so anything that gets you creating and doing art will definitely help out uh superchat here from mario uh i'm not sure if that would be your last name aeronautical uh it says i i only got into custom shoes to make my own cleats they are done plus a few others for friends plus today i am delivering my actual first paid job thanks for all the knowledge mario custom shoes very cool mario and congrats on that first delivery nothing like it i'm trying so the first customers that i had were all they weren't local they were all people that sent in their shoes to me so that first paid gig delivering those shoes what a great feeling i'm super happy for you mario that is uh very cool thank you for that super chat buddy and uh yeah i'm sure a lot of people in this chat know that feeling of delivering your first pair of uh custom shoes it's a beautiful thing that is for sure uh let's see clarissa elliot says uh sends in a super chat thank you clarissa how do i stop paint bleed with stencils so um a couple things that will help there first and foremost is going to be heat setting and rubbing your fingers over it as you're laying down the vinyl and heat setting at the same time you got to burn your fingers a little almost you got to get a little risky there and to really make sure that that vinyl is sucking down onto your surface and then after that the next most important thing when it comes to stencils do i have anything to reference here any project not right now um let's say let me uh what what can i show what can i show let me grab something to show all right so i have these lv supreme cleats and um let me make sure i can see yeah cool so lv supreme cleats so what these are is they started out as the all white cleat now after i have that all white laid down then i cover up uh the the the i start to cover it all up with the vinyl with the lv print vinyl okay so white is the color underneath all of that vinyl so one thing that i like to do rather than just spraying red on top of that vinyl now because i'm trying to do a red red on top of all that is lay down the color underneath the vinyl on top of your stencil this way if any paint does leak underneath it's going to be that first color that you lay down so if i lay down white on top of the vinyl stencils if any paint leaks through it's going to be white again and that's the same color as underneath so you're not going to end up with any of that spidering that sometimes can happen where your stencils will leak but heat setting is far and away the biggest factor uh let's see uh nick kessler says have you watched rose anvil's youtube video on taking apart the air force ones cool stuff he mentioned the tongues aren't leather he does jordan's too i have not i think a couple people have sent that to me nick i'm gonna have to look up uh let me just let me just pull it up real quick i still need to find a way to sometimes i want to show stuff i want to show a video and um sometimes i want to show you guys so let's see rose anvil i don't think i've ever seen um their stuff pop up before uh so the video is what's inside a nike air force one cut in half yeah and they should have cut through that thing very cool yeah i'm gonna have to watch that later nick thank you thank you i'm definitely gonna check that one out because that will be uh cool to see that would be cool to see bad beat nick says cubs or socks i'm a socks fan i am a south sider yep ah let's see uh kong custom says uh did you ever think about becoming a sneaker designer like for nike or something i have never really thought about that you know i i've certainly thought about working with them but you know i haven't spent too much time thinking because i i've never really i haven't really spent too much time thinking about wanting to do design i truly haven't spent that much time on it in the past i certainly have working with footwear for so many years i certainly have likes dislikes things that i know i would like to do but i've never spent that much time to do um to really do designing so i think it'd be super cool i would love to work with them i've never thought about working uh for them as a sneaker designer but certainly would be cool certainly would be cool daniel says dylan i've had a lot of joy laying down a first coat over the stencil same as the base color seals it well absolutely absolutely that is a great trick and something that i didn't know uh probably until the until this last year or so and that is definitely a great tip cw custom says i just got back from delivering my first pair of cleats cw congrats my man uh like i said great feeling being able to deliver stuff to clients for the first time sam basler says uh what will the next contest be after the floral contest most likely it it'll probably be the the the next three that come to mind would be disney video games or anime those would be the next three uh let's see uh jamie smith says hey dylan are you still trying to perfect your portraits i sure am i haven't had uh i haven't had a project since that kobe pair um a little over a month ago i do have another one coming up i have a chiefs championship pair so i'm going to have a mahomes picture on one and then uh another picture that was taken when they uh right after they won so i think it's uh kelsey tyron matthew and somebody else i think all holding the trophy on the other show so that is coming up very soon so i have to do uh put my portraits portrait skills back to the test uh very soon uh so yeah let's see uh super chat comes in from dragon custom says i know you don't like heat transfer customs but i'd like you to review my hundred dollar bill air force one uh dragon if you don't mind send them into uh our instagram the dcf experience and uh we will check them out there let me get that pulled up send them to me there let's see reviewing your instagram yeah cool uh right here the dcf experience send them to me and dm here and we will check them out uh david long says did you do a video on those customs on your desk area this pair right here the uh this was the pair that we did in our marco video so yeah if you check that video out this is the pair that we painted for them if you're talking about another paranor desk area i don't know if you could see those ones over there what i'm working on now but i'm doing some football clicks i'll show you what i have so far um one of the i have uh these are a pair for so i have four pairs for geronimo allison of the detroit lions so we have a graffiti theme detroit on this one three one three three word three one three be rabbit bee rabbit his real name is clarence if you guys get that reference you know what's up uh one pride on this one and uh lions on the other so i'm probably backwards right now but detroit lions there so they have some graffiti in their uh walkout area so he sent me some references for that another one with uh i have four pairs here's another one just kind of this cool little riptide type look i really like how these came out the white and honolulu blue somebody got it somebody got the eight mile reference uh okay let's see uh did you send those in dragon let me know and we will uh check them out we will check them out uh cw says i did a pair of shoes for a client who's friends with cody cupper the concept director my client is trying his best to show the shoes to tinker hatfield being that he's a duck fan oh cool man that'd be awesome if you could get tinkerer to check out some of your work that is uh for sure um ryan strow says should i take easy generic work and if so should i post things that are generic on my instagram or only post really custom work i don't think there's nothing wrong with uh posting generic work or simple stuff there's nothing wrong with that because you know really complex custom work isn't always going to be for everybody you know what i mean so showing sometimes that generic simple stuff also it totally depends what is considered simple or generic work like we could take a look at a creator like a malcolm garrett who does really just uh i don't even want to say it's simple because it's not to do but color blocking and things like that on jordan ones and whatnot and he does an absolutely phenomenal job at it and is a is a highly uh requested customizer so definitely nothing wrong with that definitely nothing wrong with that uh marl dain sends in a super chat thank you buddy uh i didn't make it around to doing something for the floral contest couldn't get the shoes i wanted wish the best for all who do enter seen some amazing work already also dragon dragons dollar bill air force ones are hands up okay let's see those uh kong custom says with the with the with the rat from eight mile kong eight mile probably came out before you what year did eight mile come out guys all right if i had to guess i think i was in sixth grade when eight mile came out did eight mile come out in 2003 because that might make it older than khan customs if it did did eight mile come out in 2003 guys let me know because i think it did uh i think it did uh dragon send them over to this one send them over to this instagram uh the dcf experience and i'll check them out you know what i'll search you up but we'll search up dragon customs here let's do that 2002 okay o2 gotcha gotcha dragon customs let's check out these are they on here are they on your instagram here yes send them send me a dm on here i don't see them at least in these first couple rows november 02. wow eight mile love that movie um i certainly um i haven't really watched much stuff on on cable in years but i loved when it was on it was just on repeat on vh1 for years and it's such a good movie that you could just hop in at any point you know what i mean and certainly if it's anywhere near the end you're like all right i'm down for the ride 30 minutes left yeah i'm not missing that battle with clarence no chance no chance uh mmajunkie says do you recommend using an adhesion promoter and do you think they help with longevity i do i do think so i do think so yep i do recommend using one i use it on every pair i do some people only use it if they're painting like plastics other weird things like that but um i do i do recommend that uh customs by carl says i've been trying for six live streams if that's true i feel bad man so let's check out dragons send me those in a dm so i could check those out um we're gonna go ahead and take a look at customs by carl's instagram see what i have to say so customs i always got to make sure i spell this stuff right customs carl i already spelled something wrong okay let's see customs up customs by carl customs by carl b cool cool cool let's see here so custom shoes if you want a custom dma custom start at only 50 let's take a look here gucci print looks pretty clean and the cortez's pretty clean oh i like this camo that's dope dope dig the dig the blocking on those what do we have here are these uh it says custom line guest sneakers cool stuff there go check these out little apocalyptic galaxy theme dig these man dig these look at all this so we have a t-shirt we got slides we got we got the board and the backpack some fire and water slides good stuff so i see some video work here oh do i see oh i do see some toothpick gang action oh no i don't i see i see some airbrush needle gang action okay okay i put some respect on that um let's see is this a yeah a stencil reveal nice nice yeah so right away uh i like that there's some video there's some picture there's even some you know uh design edit type stuff here fan of that so i'm a fan of the different forms of content let's see what we have here on the story uh yep nice oh no let me write these those are clean uh which do i like more let's see i like i like the cortez's more okay oh i'm in the minority there and on foot at the gym today yep look at that walking billboard at the gym today customs by carl how many people came up to you at the gym today and asked about those because people love the gucci stuff and look you even did the box too nice yeah that metallic is crazy cool stuff here man cool stuff um yeah so what would i say about the page uh keep building out the the uh quantity 28 posts let's keep that growing you know what i mean um of course you guys know me uh photography photography photography of course uh putting a little bit more time into some photo editing and whatnot but look what's in here oh that's cool oh and you painted it too nice it's cool that was a keychain right sorry i gotta talk upwards towards the mic yeah nice uh so yeah photography it would be the main thing but you're doing a lot of things that i like testing out a lot of different forms of content video stuff tape reveal um so keep that up man keep that up and uh keep going keep going the work is clean yeah the work is clean like look at this i mean the gucci look look at how far we could zoom in that's pretty clean you know what i mean the stencil work that is pretty clean so good stuff man yeah keep it up buddy keep it up customs by carl uh let's see i don't want to miss these super chats uh one from h l cakes would you check our newest cleats on our instagram too i sure will um let's see uh marl dain sends in a super chat and says uh valley kicks came up with a creative way to create good lighting he should send you the pictures awesome dude let me check that out and uh hnl kicks uh at me and just let me know uh your instagram name again because he might have changed it so let me know what it is and i will check those out and uh has dragon dm to me we gotta find that out but let me check out what marlodyne says this valley kicks mauldin what's the instagram on uh valley kicks because i don't think it's that page i don't think it's that page either let me know let me know marl dane what that uh oh valakix is sending me stuff maybe that's it oh yeah there we go yeah yeah yeah yeah yep i saw these yeah that's clean that's clean yep look at that so they have the uh is it just a piece of cardboard nearby with those little string lights um that's simple and i mean look at look at the results pretty clean just with the white like you just can't go wrong you know what i mean especially with the white air force with the dior print it's just a clean simple photo so yeah and and the caption is so true that you don't diy studio you don't need expensive equipment to take a good picture oh valikkix is in here awesome awesome so uh what is this lighting uh valley kicks or where did you pick up those those little string lights explain those a little bit more for the people in the chat because they look like they they come with a cable so they're they're plugged into power so it's not there's no little battery source or anything it looks like it comes with the little power adapter uh so let me know about that and we will uh pull that up dragon says they uh just sent okay we'll check that out shortly dragon let's see but yeah let me know valley what the what these little lights are because that is cool and you just have it looks like it's set up just onto uh you just attach it to a piece of cardboard or something like that uh it's an led string light you can find them on amazon there are rgb ones as well yeah very cool so you could change the lighting and get some different colors and whatnot just a uh 12 led strip from amazon yeah gotta love amazon and look at the results guys clean clean i mean clean and simple you can can't go wrong with the simple white background guys you can't go wrong all right uh let's see from uh dragon now let's see here let me get we got okay see you're hearing your instagram okay okay yes check those out okay so we have air force ones i'm taking a look at them are these are these somewhere on your feet also did i miss them forgive me if i did forgive me if i did yeah okay same here chip so sometimes i like to look at these and i like to see if i can determine which parts are painted and which parts aren't um like did you paint the eyelet panels that it's not avocado colored but that green color and then that that little back heel panel is that is that painted also let me know if those are painted to dragon but yeah i mean look at that i mean this is the amount of detail that you're able to pack into there would be and certainly like not only in uh not only in the if you were trying to do a portrait at that size that would not be an easy task but look at like this how complex this pattern is with all that line work like that would that would basically be nearly impossible by hand so the fact that you can do this with um what is this is this uh heat transfer so is it vinyl when you apply it let me know what it is dragon i'd be curious to know the process um yeah i would love to do something one day um where i could just sort of have you guys on the screen here with me like video call in and and uh chat with me and talk that would be super cool look at that look at that my sweet tan line from my glasses pretty cool um but yeah i would love to do that that'd be pretty cool to to just have you guys on screen with me talking uh about your process on how you did stuff because because i'm always curious to learn a lot of times on like reviewing your customs and whatnot i'm i'm always guessing uh the process for people so something like this i'm curious what the method is heat transfer sheets printed on inkjet and then how do you adhere it onto the panels of the air force are you just using something like a barge cement or whatnot but yeah i mean this is this is clean simple stuff clean and simple stuff a dcf zoom call exactly yeah i gotta find a way gotta find a way i don't i know there's ways where i could have you like call in like almost like if this was a radio hotline uh 1 800 chicks at night but i'm talking uh i'm talking like a video calling so you guys could be here on the screen also that would be that would be a lot cooler daniel says dylan if you ever watch t with garyvee he has guest in for five minutes each i'm gonna take a look at uh i'm gonna take a look garyvee puts out so much content that i obviously can't watch it all but i'm going to check out um i'm going to check out some of those videos and i'll see how he does it how he has that set up because i think that'd be really cool um the first time if you guys saw last week's video where we had jaybo airbrush with his mortal kombat blazers on that was a big test for us on how we were going to be able to do how we were going to be able to do a video where we weren't you know [Music] in person with the with the other person we're collabing with but thankfully uh jordan had a friend who who's adverse in in video equipment and technology and stuff so he was able to have somebody mic him up and and record from a couple different cameras and so it was a big project to put together combining all of that footage uh it'd be a whole lot easier in person but thankfully we got through that to now we sort of feel confident enough to do um potentially some more collabs down the road with uh people since obviously it's hard to do in-person stuff nowadays with everything going on in the world but yeah even even during these streams or or separate videos i would like to do uh i would like to do some other stuff like that i think that'd be really cool uh pedro says you gotta check out my guy malcolm garrett on instagram yeah i just talked about him not that long malcolm garrett is he's one of my favorite creators right now i mean he's just absolutely killing it uh with what he's doing i love but not only is his work so clean but his photography is is just awesome guys and and i think i talked about it a couple streams back what i love about it is not only is it beautiful artwork but i think it's a beautiful photo okay so let's let's take a look at some of his stuff i gotta check out hessen lawson i gotta check out their instagram right oh look at that he's on the explore page here i recognize his work right away like like this is just a great photo not only is the artwork great but it's just a great photo you know what i mean like a way to think about it is pretend you're taking a photo that you want to hang up on a wall for your custom artwork like this is a photo that is worthy of being on a wall you know what i mean so that's just that's one way that i like to think about it i mean like this is so good i i just love his photography and it just works yeah i love it so you know if i was ever critiquing or reviewing this instagram i wouldn't be able to stop uh um ranting and raving about how great his photography is in my opinion so uh hess and lawson let me do them gotta get back to those fellas let's see what their instagram is hess and lawson yeah that's what it is and they wanted me to check out i think their most recent cleats yeah recently cool let's see these ones is uh okay so big congratulations to eli kale london for making to the nfl go bears uh we wanted to pay homage to his roots in peoria 309 and uh okay so this is for a bears player huh so we have the we got the skyline and we have the el savage check these out with the lightning and stuff dope stuff dope stuff man yeah i like i like the photos here of getting to the football field that's great stuff very hard the hardest part about of wanting to go and get photos on a football field and things like that it's not distracting here is when you're shooting in direct sunlight sometimes your photos just get so overblown that didn't happen here you didn't lose detail from the sun but if there's one critique i could give here is that um [Music] do i have it near but do i have anything nearby with it no i was gonna say if i had any do i i do okay so i was seeing if i had any bears memorabilia here in the uh studio i did they gave me some they gave me a bunch of gear when i worked with them uh last season so if you take a look at the bears colors it's really navy and it's really orange okay so take a look at the hat and i'll take a look at the colors on the screen that is what i would say is the is the one thing the one critique i could give about the cleats themselves let me make sure i'm talking about the right cleats let's see here some awesome let me know guys um listen okay cool thinking thinking so yeah so that's that's you the the reason it happened is because you built this this galaxy type background probably in black you might have done all of that first i'm not necessarily sure um maybe the cleat was all all white and then you did the orange and the blue and then the black i can't fully tell the the workflow here of what you did but if i had to guess that's my only critique is that the colors need to be a little bit more saturated than orange this is a little bit more of you know uh uh this color like the orange on your cleats looks a little bit more like this sunset yellow color whereas the actual bears color that you're going for is a little bit more this color you know what i mean and so that's the one critique i would give you know being that they're for a bears player is is trying to to nail those colors down a little bit more so i'm trying to see if you said anything about the workflow but i'm gonna say i'm gonna talk about the workflow if it went two ways so let's say you did this entire black galaxy first and then you went in with some white or some light gray and then did the colors on top the blue and the orange sometimes you might not have gotten that color white enough to make that orange really pop or what you might have done also is let's say the cleat was all white then maybe you just laid down the orange and the blue and then just did your black around it it could have definitely been one of those ways but just trying to nail down those colors but photos on the football field that's cool the lightning and stuff dope the graphics of the skyline the savage the text all good stuff all good stuff so yeah cool cool work fellas cool work keep it up we went blue and orange and then added the black okay yeah yep so i just would have i just would have uh used a more saturated orange but yeah i like those good stuff and and one time for the hometown team uh okay let's see uh wayne mcgivery says hey dylan i've just finished customizing some air force one with gold angelus glitter lights i have used the angelus matte finisher would it be okay to use the krylon matte spray yes it would i love the uh krylon matte spray let's see when using finisher with tootin ban says when using finisher with tooth in for the airbrush would you recommend more than one layer because the finisher is like not only finisher now so if you're using the finisher you don't need to add any too thin into that mixture the finisher is already thin enough to run through your airbrush um okay so i see a couple comments we are talking about the topic of if iron on or the heat transfer stuff is custom or not and let me see i know dragon had said a couple more things about how he attaches it uh a mini iron and a heat gun okay cool cool gotcha yeah so uh so let's go back to those for reference so we have some people wondering if iron on or heat transfer is custom you know something like yeah i would guess those are on them too but let's go back to that uh the dollar pair yeah so would you consider this a custom or not i think that parts of it are painted and then parts of it are are the iron-on uh material it is absolutely still a custom it's just different it's just not a entirely hand-painted custom sneaker but this is still custom you know what i mean he altered the factory product now is it entirely custom painted which is what is more heavily considered a custom sneaker it's not it's it's not all entirely um hand painted but you still have to do clean work and as long as uh i think i see kong touch on here maybe daniel as long as you're transparent with it which which dragon is he's not lying and telling people yes i hand painted uh everything on here all this line work and every tiny little detail in the in the hundred dollar bill you know what i mean he's not doing that so these are these are definitely still a uh custom i would say so yeah so some people touching on the garyvee stuff i'm gonna have to check that out i'm gonna have to check that out [Music] i had another super chat come in where is it okay uh hey dylan just want to say thank you for all your feedback and support if you don't mind checking out uh wiley's inkage if you have time let's take a look at my man wyatt here linkage custom trainers tattoos based in stanley county durham let's see yes i know i've seen the pictures of these yes take a look at that buttery smooth gradient you gotta love to see it look at how those colors pop too that is tasty is this uh some little george in his dino kicks i'm not i can't think of the cartoon character this is is that a is that a pep of the pig am i off my rocker i'm not sure of all the baby characters yet i only know baby shark and uh uh what is dexter watch uh johnny johnny yes papa um but i i we haven't gotten into a pep of the pig if that is pep of the pig i don't know who that is but uh lv yeah look at that that's clean with the gradient on the toe dig that clean work clean work again with lv on the air maxes yep perfect sizing on the on the lv print also and yeah i like this this little semi gradient that's on this uh on these beige panels that's tasty uh here we have what does it say at the so i think it says somebody's instagram yeah at the at the stoner bible so i think you had told me these are maybe for a store owner am i crazy i think something like that but yeah look at the creativity with the swoosh for for the burning uh the burning swoosh that's cool we got the glitch in progress we got some galaxy drip on the 90s here that's clean and crazy good stuff man good stuff yeah you're staying busy i know man i know uh i know quarantine was uh was uh i talked to wiley all the time guys but um quarantine was good for you on and since you weren't able to tattoo you found this uh you found that you're able to do this whole custom sneaker thing too should i uh step away outside of my zone and uh should we review some tattoos too that'd be fun look at this that's dope man i need to get some guys i need to get inked up i know once i start i won't be able to stop but yeah jason's got me beat with two full sleeves and uh i won't even go into critiquing tattooing because that would be way outside of my element for sure but yeah good stuff buddy good stuff um as far as any things that i think could be improved on photography you know what i mean i would say that even something like this like um even if we just edit this photo a little bit it says no filter just sunlight so i know that certainly uh could be the goal of no filter but a filter is a good thing in my opinion not just a slap in one of the instagram filters on there but little things like playing with the highlights the shadows tweaking the saturation of the grass just to make it a little more appealing so it doesn't look like a dead grass zone things like that if you turned out the saturation of these greens and yellows you know what i mean that would make your pinks and your oranges and your purples pop even more so it's not it's not cheating to edit your photos it only helps them you know what i mean so that would be uh my recommendation but yeah clean work clean work man for sure and uh let's maybe let's let's test out some video stuff see like the we have the video reveal of the tattoo it's cool to be able to see all that so let's let's let's play with that on the uh shoes too for sure yeah good stuff buddy good stuff let's see here foreign uh sam says yes that's peppa okay cool [Music] cool daniel did you dance and dylan reach out to gary vee he'd have you on i'm sure i've made i made a uh a couple pairs of shoes i made a pair for gary i made a pair for drock i made a pair for tyler and one other person we made four pairs for garyvee it's one of our it might be our first video on youtube it might be the first video on youtube four pairs that we made from i think it is i think it might be let me see we had a we had a studio tour at our old downtown studio but it was just an absolutely terrible video that we ended up taking down um date added oldest video yeah the garyvee is the first one three years ago wow crazy so yeah um i should reach out to him that'd be pretty funny that would be uh that'd be awesome to be on there but yeah i'm gonna have to take a look at that and see what we can do to get uh how we can get some other people here on uh dcf live uh daniel i'm not sure daniel you're saying i saw this page yesterday i think it was featured by angelus but i'm not seeing your first comment or whatever that says which page you're referring to let me know uh casa says hi dylan for a video series idea have your subscribers submit their workplace studio and you can review it and give tips i personally would find this very interesting that'd be a pretty cool one that would be a pretty cool one uh it's peppa's brother george the pig okay there we go there we go thanks valley major inspo from tragic uh dylan the page you were just reviewing oh okay wylie yes yes wiley uh yeah i talk with him all the time uh super cool dude and uh yeah just being able to chat with you guys all the time through instagram is super cool and uh that i'm able to help you guys in any way is uh is awesome so love that would you consider reviewing uh cedric says would you consider reviewing instagram pages as a series i know there's a lot of customizers on there including me uh at seeds underscore kicks and it would be great for us so we know what to change and it helps i i have definitely thought about that jason hasn't been as uh he hasn't been as excited about the thought of doing that as a standalone video and how that would do but i i think there might be something to it we just it's so with the youtube videos you just have to find the right format to get them to work and it's all about keeping it engaging and interesting the whole time so that people don't want to leave right away and uh and things like that so uh jarkan nader sorry if i butchered that one says hey dylan could you please remind me of how to prep canvas shoes so when it comes to prepping canvas you really don't need to do much prep work you can hop right into the painting just need some too soft in your paint uh alex eden says hey dylan my page is ybk customs we dm'd earlier and you mentioned our photography what specifically did you mean let me uh pull that up okay flip over okay so yes i know you sent me these earlier which are badass love these looks great and i i uh these are really clean too and i like this photo infinitely times more than i like some of these earlier photos of something just like this you know what i mean because this is a 10 times better photo showcasing your artwork than this is you know what i mean just on the bench not that wood texture is bad or the grass texture in the background is bad but just the composition and the framing there's nothing that that further accelerates the beauty of the artwork here like it's just not a beautiful photo whereas something like this is so much better so there's already been a large improvement i know you asked me earlier in the day what you could improve on and i just think that you've already improved uh since some of your earlier work and this is may 20th so a couple months back now i think that it's already a whole lot better doing stuff like this so i just think that when you're um i just think that when you're when you're taking photography of your custom shoes try to take try to create a beautiful photo you know what i mean picture you're trying to take a photo that's going to end up in a picture frame on somebody's wall you know what i mean think of that in your head and how can you compose things uh to make something really nice so that's what i would say uh dragon custom says do you do the shoes for free when you do collabs for instagram models i think that that is something that can work when you're starting out i don't need to do shoes uh for for for free for anybody anymore because i have paying clients but even if you're trying to get into creating artwork for um um even if you're trying to get into the door of customizing cleats for athletes and whatnot sometimes you just got to get in the door and even if that means working for free to start i don't think that's the worst thing in the world but you know once you're established and whatnot and you have plenty of paying clients you don't need to do work for free anymore but even now i'm not if the opportunity arose to work for somebody to do something like i'm let's just say for uh i don't even know let i mean let's just say for example somebody said paint a pair of shoes for um i'm trying to picture somebody who not everybody i'm not just trying to pick the most famous let's just say michael jordan they said will you paint this pair of shoes for michael jordan for fruit yeah of course i would you know what i mean it's not the thought of painting for free that is the most disgusting thought in the world to me it's just that if it's just for you know another person why well it it depends what am i gonna what's in it for me to to work for free when i have so many other paying clients you know what i mean but a lot of times when i'm talking about the working for free it's for people just starting out and looking to build and grow so i think that if you're not doing anything else if you don't have all those other paying clients there's there's nothing inherently wrong with painting for free so muldain has some great advice here so to make a canvas shoe smoother you can shave it with a razor blade and then use a lint roller to clean it up yeah that's a that's an old school trick that a lot of people do um on a lot of canvas shoes um in my opinion it's unnecessary because it has no effect on durability it to me it has no to me it's unnecessary but that is absolutely something you could do um them that might come into play a little bit more if you were working with a different medium but i i feel when you're working with angelus paint or other fabric paints or something like that it's it's unnecessary um but yeah maybe if they were older or something like that or if they were extremely fuzzy for whatever reason sometimes you just get those if you're just working with a pair of all white slip-ons you might end up with something like that but yeah so that is definitely something that you could do uh richard and uh sorry if i say your last name wrong uh richard aniguz says what should i get with fifty dollars so if i had just fifty dollars what i would get um fifty dollars okay so to prep i would get cotton balls scotch brite pads you could pick those up from the dollar store i would get the angelus starter kit that comes with it's uh 20 it's it's probably about 30 it comes with three paints deglazer paint brushes and shoe cleaner so i'm gonna say that again what comes in there it comes with three paints you get to pick the paints and then it comes with uh paint brushes which is nice they're a decent quality too it comes with the the de glazer which is going to be necessary for the prep work and then it comes with i said the three paints the paint brushes the deglazer and then it comes with the sneaker cleaner in case you're working on an old pair of shoes and that's pretty good that's that's three pants to start now you may need some more paint certainly so you could pick up maybe a couple more colors if you could fit that into your budget but i would say that starter kit is the most important thing because you get your brushes you get your paint and you get your deglazer for your prep work and then i would pick up a pack of sandpaper too off amazon or something like that so in wednesday's video i talk about my budget for a hundred dollars so check that video out because the the items that i would remove from the um from the hundred dollar budget would be the additional 12 color assortment kit where you pick an additional 12 colors that would be another 30 bucks and then i would remove the liquid kicks finisher which i think was 12 dollars so yeah now you're already saving 42 dollars out of that hundred dollar budget that i talked about because oh yeah that uh that other angelus starter kit that i talked about um had uh it comes with a map it comes with finisher also so that's really cool what's funny is some people uh commented and said that that video was just an angelus ad and that's just not the case because um um it would be a pretty bad ad because i recommend other brands products too like you guys see me use i talk about liquid kicks matt finisher all the time i talk about jacquard's metallic airbrush paint that i think it's even better than a lot of the air the angelus metallics so you know what i mean like angelos doesn't isn't like paying for me to exclusively use their stuff i am a sponsored artist with them um and i have been for so many years but all i do is talk about the products that i use and and i want to be transparent about those things but i'm not paid a salary to only say i use these paints and i tell you guys what i actually use you know what i mean so uh let's see a lifetime puck excuse me i think i have to sneeze let's see nope we're good okay show keeps rolling lifetime puck says how do i go about expanding my customers from friends and family to like strangers and how do i go about payments and shipping with that so lifetime puck assuming you have a nice little instagram portfolio built out you've painted some stuff for friends and family you have stuff to show to strangers and you know strangers want your work you know they're gonna reach out to you on a platform like instagram and say hey you know i would love uh something similar to this pair that you made for you know your friends how much is something like that and you come up with your price point let's just say your price is 200 it depends if they're local or if they're out of state but well even now since you know meeting up and whatnot all that might be limited um let's just assume they're they're not local you can say uh hey something like this is uh 200 and i'll supply the shoes and everything or they might want to send in their shoes and just have you do the artwork but let's assume you're supplying the shoes and it's 200 for everything um they might it depends how you want to run your business you can say okay well i charge half up front and then half upon completion what works great with that is uh sometimes you know the customer will like that because then they don't feel they're sending you all the money up front and it kind of works for you because you uh at least get the money to purchase the base shoe to get the ball rolling and maybe some of your material costs now the one issue there is that there is that small chance that you paint the shoes and then they just don't respond for the other half of payment or they say okay i'm not happy with the product uh before you're ready to send it out something like that that that that certainly is a possibility so you could also say well i charge full payment uh for everything upfront so you charge the full 200 up front um the downfall to that is they may say well you know i don't feel as comfortable with that but at least you get all of your money up front you're able to you're paid now for your for your shoes your supplies and your time which is the most ideal for you of course and then shipping um i just use uh what i've used for years is usps priority mail shipped directly to the post office you can use fedex or ups um a lot of people certainly feel more safe with those but they have much higher cost of course so there's definitely a trade-off for things like that so uh how do i go about expanding my customers from friends and family to like strangers and how do i go about payment and shipping with that so yeah assuming you're you know you're you're roughly you know still early in the customizing journey starting out there's nothing wrong with doing the half payment up front and half upon completion so you get half payment up front after you're done with them in a couple weeks snap a picture of them say hey they're ready to go i need your shipping address and the second half of payment and uh they send that payment and then you're ready to send out the shoes the one thing they wouldn't want to do is wait till they receive the shoes for the second half of payment because then you're really counting on them to be good people and send you uh the other half of payment which you certainly hope they should and assuming they like the shoes you would think that they would want to pay for the other half of the shoes but you're just a whole lot less protected in that case so you know half payment up front and then half a payment upon you know picture completion and showing them that hey they're ready to ship is probably the most ideal way but building out that instagram portfolio is going to be the biggest thing for moving from friends and family to strangers because you want to look legit to strangers since strangers don't know you so yeah let's see uh sam basler here with the recommendation says i also recommend picking up leather sheets from michael's to practice painting on before investing in shoes that's a great call too yeah you could probably pick up some leather sheets for a pretty good price from michaels and then just get a feel for working on leather so that's definitely a good idea awesome let me take a drink of water real quick says wear your designs in public you can be your own billboard as well as get business cards absolutely absolutely absolutely always be a walking billboard uh muhammad azmi says do you know when angelos are restocking on their pint and quartz products also when making wooden boxes and plastic stencils do you make them personally on laser cutter or get them produced yeah so angelus is um out of stock on a lot of things uh their pints their quartz i don't even know if they sell gallons anymore they might have stopped that um i guess it's been quite a while since i've had to order gallons but um yeah i know they're out of stock on just a lot of stuff the the uh them being able to get a lot of their product has uh really hurt them and i i i don't think it's the paint that they're out of i think it's literally just the containers for the pints and quarts because they even had to get different bottles for their four ounces so yeah hopefully soon hopefully not too much longer uh scotty's custom cake says what krylon matte spray do you use dylan i believe i picked up the wrong one from amazon it's uh that's literally just what it's called but let me i'll show you a picture of the one that i use acrylomat spray yep here it is so yeah here's the one that i use krylon matte finish spray yep literally just called krylon matte finish and says it uh nice and big there on the uh can so yes uh maya thomas says you guys are still going do you think you'd sell any more uh any more type stencils on your etsy i do plan with probably within the next uh within the next couple weeks there's going to be quite a few more stencils added to the etsy vinyl ones some reusable ones there's going to be quite a few more things added so definitely stay tuned for that make sure you sign up for our newsletter next week and that's where we're going to be doing some exclusive ones and so yeah stay tuned for that but definitely some new ones coming soon just fo7 says hey soos i've had a few customers lose interest when i tell them they need to supply the sneakers i'm skeptical about buying uh the sneaker when the customer could change his his or her mind or just disappear so just f what's uh what i probably would recommend there is absolutely you're probably gonna um you're gonna lose some interest if you when you what you're doing by by doing that i'm not saying there's anything wrong with that but you're requiring more work for the customer by telling them they have to go buy the shoe and then send it to you everything in life nowadays is about convenience and how easy things are and i can literally buy something on amazon in 10 seconds and have it here in 24 hours with like two clicks you know what i mean so telling people they have to do more work when everything is so streamlined nowadays is is going to run into you're certainly going to turn some more people away right off the bat so one thing that you could do is do that charge half payment up front and then half upon completion so let's just say for example you're selling 300 a 300 pair of painted air forces for example if you charge half payment you're going to get 150 that's going to allow you to at least get you're going to be able to go buy the shoe and your materials you know what i mean so yes you're going to go purchase a size 10 and a half shoe and paint it specific to that person so yeah you let's just say they they changed their mind or backed out last minute or just stopped answering yeah now you're stuck with the size 10 and a half um chunky dunky air force one that you may not be able to easily find another buyer for but at least you got the money for uh your base shoe and the material but you didn't necessarily get paid for your time now you know what i mean all you really got covered there was the base shoe and the material so that's certainly uh a potential downfall but at least um at least you didn't go out and purchase the sneaker with your own money you know what i mean and now you at least have the shoe so um yeah that's that's what i would do i i just think with everything so streamlined nowadays you're naturally gonna turn some people away when you tell them they have to do additional work so that is uh that is what i would recommend is uh probably testing out that uh half payment up front half upon completion yep uh let's see there's the money down uh brotistic says i let my customers know due to sizing i recommend they supply the shoes if i do provide the shoes it is extra nothing wrong with that ease nothing wrong with that either definitely uh seth brewster says what brand stencil printer do you use i'm thinking of getting one but what do you recommend thank you so much i recommend the silhouette cameo a lot of people like the uh cricket air um but yeah definitely one of those i think the cricut is a little bit cheaper it might be a little more readily available that might be why people select that one but i've used the silhouette cameo for years uh gina says i jumped in late you have a newsletter that's cool how do you sign up we will be uh that should be ready to launch uh next wednesday gina i think that we will i'll be posting about that next wednesday that in a discord both of those are going to be ready next week and we're going to be doing some exclusive stuff in uh both of those so those are being uh those guy worked on all week jason is sort of finalizing some stuff with them over the weekend and yeah we are excited to roll those out a lifetime puck with this follow-up says thanks for the advice just a quick question how should i go about pricing my customs now with my friends and family i was only charging like 20 just for the art alone well now i'm not sure how many pairs you did for your friends and family but now you probably have a little bit of a better gauge for how long a project's going to take you so let's say you painted a pair for one of your friends and it took you six hours well now you know let's say you're going to do a similar design for a cus potential customer that's reaching out to you well now you know that hey it's probably going to take me about six hours to do that so now you can sort of start to factor in some of those things a little bit let's just say starting out you want to make maybe 20 an hour uh you know six hours that's 120 and then you could sort of decide if you want to factor in some of your material cost in there so 120 and then maybe i want 20 for my materials okay it's going to be 140 for the artwork you know what i mean or maybe you say my material costs are sort of counted in my hourly wage and that's why i make that's why i decided on 20 an hour so that that's certainly a potentiality i don't i i just think the hourly rate is it's just good for you starting out just to get a feel for it pricing is just something that you get better at with time now um i i don't really i don't necessarily think in terms of an hourly rate anymore when i'm pricing um a custom because sometimes i can't even factor in how long something's gonna take me i mean if we just take a look at uh the chunky donkey jordan ones that i painted uh i really thought i was gonna be able to paint that entire shoe in one day on a live stream for 10 hours and when i finished that live stream i was probably only about 75 percent done with them i definitely put another five hours or so of work into those um after the stream so even though yeah i'm a little bit slowed down because i'm doing the stream i'm doing the chat i'm i'm interacting with people i'm not necessarily headphones on locked in in my zone doing my thing i probably could have got them done a little quicker but you know i i it can't always be about the hourly rate because sometimes things just turn out taking longer so sometimes you might hurt yourself if you assume a project is going to take you four hours and then it takes you 20. you know what i mean and so yeah you just get better at pricing as you go along but it's okay when you're starting out to not charge the most in the world just just get a feel for it just give business out there that's what i recommend yep let's see here uh piffed out kick says please answer how you figure out how you charge for stencils so if you're talking about uh if if you plan on i'm not sure if you mean if you want to sell stencils or if you're asking how we charge for stencils but let me know what you mean pipped out kicks i'm assuming you might mean how much should you charge for stencils let's say you want to create them for people it might sort of be about um if you have to do any of the design work like let's just say they sent you an image like for example uh let's just throw something out there like uh the the chicago bears uh let's say somebody wanted a chicago bear stencil well do you have to go through the trouble of turning this into vector artwork or or something like maybe they have their own logo or something like that do you have to go through the trouble of of digitizing it and put your time into it and then your material cost and all that stuff uh or i might be crazy and you might be asking how do we come up with our prices for stencils um but if you mean just for you um stencils are just a little uh accessory so they're not they're not gonna be um uh what am i trying to get at what am i trying to get i still don't i guess i'm not sure let me see if you if you responded stencils i make okay cool so so at least now i know how to answer the question yeah so i would say it sort of depends on if you're assuming um like gucci for instance you've talked about how much they are yeah so i guess it depends on um how much design work do you plan on doing and um are are how are you going to be mass producing them how much is your time worth for for you cutting them on all those types of things yeah uh like gucci friends inside you talk about yeah so that's what i would say uh just you know how much time are you putting into it i would say and then your material costs how much is your material depending on you know if you're just talking about vinyl stencils or something like that how much is your vinyl gonna cost and then you know let's just say for example you want to sell gucci stencils maybe um uh i probably don't recommend that because they've cracked down on on etsy and and things like that a lot over the past year on uh selling lv gucci stencils and things like that but let's just continue talking about those like how many of those can you print out in an hour let's just say you could print out i don't know maybe uh 10 of them in an hour okay cool now i'm going to sell them for i don't know 10 bucks each or something like that you know what i mean so yeah that is uh that's something i'd say yeah uh jpj custom kick says hey chat i have an issue in the past i've had a few clients which flaked out or forgot completely about their custom i don't want to be irritating to them but i also want confirmation and i don't want to waste um annoying was there yeah i don't want to waste uh the trouble okay so yeah um sometimes people just reach out and uh you know sometimes they're scared away by the price of custom artwork they may not know how much it's going to cost so definitely not every person who reaches out or you're going to be able to convert into a um paying client you know what i mean so so don't take that to heart for example but um i don't think there's anything wrong with sending another follow-up say hey you know uh just want to follow up with you see if you're still interested see if there's anything you know i can uh help to uh to make your to make your mind up or uh something like that so yeah definitely nothing wrong with uh following up yeah but you know you don't need to continue to send them messages over and over because if they're interested they're gonna they're definitely gonna let you um they're definitely gonna let you know a pift out kicks what the follow-up says i've heard you say how the stencils cost more than a customizer charged for the whole custom price i don't you you might have to let me know a little bit more about what you're referring to their pift out kicks because i can't think of when i've ever said that i've heard you say how the stencils cost more than a customizer charge for the whole custom price yeah let me know a little bit more because i don't remember saying uh something uh like that uh it's not easy to make sure it made you posted valid kick says i got banned from ebay for three days the thing is to not use the brand name and make sure the image you post is yours yeah it's uh i just i don't even post them for sale anymore the gucci and nlv stuff because uh it's a little too risky and i know some people have had uh some stuff get entirely shut down so let's see here uh xsplit says hey chad do you need adhesion promoter if you already sanded it down and acetone the shoe i don't i'm not sure how much adhesion promoter would would would make or break the durability i just think it it it doesn't hurt you know what i mean it definitely doesn't make it less durable i think it only helps but i don't necessarily think if you didn't have adhesion promoter that you would um run some severe risk of cracking because you didn't use it or something like that but yes uh let's see [Music] okay this is good yeah daniel says going back to the date analogy if they don't put in the effort to maintain contact they're not that interested it's the same with clients that's that's a great way of looking at it daniel yeah i mean like if you know if people are interested in custom shoes because they're they're they're trying to reach out to you and throw their money at you because they want your work but you know what i mean so that in a way is yeah like if you're trying to court somebody or date somebody if they're not showing you a lot of interest uh sure i mean i guess they might be playing hard to get or something but you don't want to deal with people who are playing games you know what i mean you wanna deal with straight shooters you know what i mean so definitely definitely but that's a good way of looking at it dana that's a funny one that's a funny one and yeah daniel says i'm like dating it should be 50 50. yep yep you should be easy to work with and uh and um and they should be easy to work with so fit of my tool says you were reviewing my customs and prices i think so was this in a uh so this was in i guess the price and and i said that this i vaguely remember this i think i vaguely remember this that they were a what was it maybe a gucci or lv shoe and they were only charging 50 for the artwork or something like that and i said that oh i think that's what it is i can't remember the specific shoe or whatnot are you guys telling me a little more let's see but yeah i think you guys are telling me um i think i had said that oh wow they're only charging that much for the artwork the stencils alone cost x but i think um jason let me know that later they were that wasn't for the whole shoe that was for just the artwork i can't remember exactly um i can't remember exactly what we're talking about but i vaguely remember sort of that situation uh so let's see there we go that's gonna try [Music] yes uh henry says when is your next review going to be and do you send them back once reviewed we do we send them back um i don't keep anything um believe me i have plenty of shoes myself that i can't even get around wearing so i don't need to keep any more shoes but we have two episodes of there might i don't know if they're going to be back to back one week and then the following week if they'll be back-to-back but our next two episodes of reviewing your customs are going to be uh the first timers edition and then the dcf floral contest uh and both of those are likely going to be um uh both of those are likely going to be in august i would say so yeah i'm excited about those so those yeah those should be ready in the next month uh bryce van lierup says have you heard of jordan vincent and what do you think of his customs and tell jordan's a super cool dude i've chatted with him a few times uh sometimes he's hanging out here in the in the dcf live chats too i'm not i haven't seen him pop in here today jordan if you're watching what's up buddy but uh yeah super cool dude love i'm a subscriber of his page i like to watch his uh videos super cool talented dude does uh does good work for sure [Music] uh cedric says are you much of a sneaker head or just a customizer you like more expensive rare jordans etc or you're just into the custom work yeah so i got into sneaker customizing because of my love for shoes so yeah i uh absolutely have been a sneaker head for a long time have probably close to 100 pairs so definitely definitely um let's see i think i did the only thing is i was i was probably a little more into collecting as many as possible when i was a little bit younger because now it's just so there's the the quantity the saturation of how many shoes releases crazy to keep up with how many shoes actually come out it's just crazy so what would you say is your best pair in your collection i i i i guess sometimes it depends what is your best pair you know that could mean what's the most expensive pair what's the most rare pair um some of my favorite pairs the most expensive pair would probably be the platinum easy twos i have the lebron south beach eights i have the original dornbacher jordan threes some other rare random little less common ones i think they're retroing them soon would be the 2007 cool gray jordan 3 is one of my all-time favorite uh non-og colorways um what else would be some of the other uh rare stuff that i have uh but yeah those would be those are some of the first ones that um come to mind but yeah i i work from home guys so it's not even that often that i get to uh to to wear to wear rare exclusive shoes certainly not on a daily basis or anything like that uh let's see yeah you know what you know what i haven't mentioned today guys let's go ahead everybody go ahead post your uh post your instagrams in the chat and let's go ahead follow some people in the chat guys instagram let's build up this community it's free to show love to other creators on instagram very easy to double tap on some of their posts engage with them engagement on instagram is is what helps you get on the explore page and be discovered by more people so if you're willing to support other creators and like their post engage with their posts say hey great job on these really cool artwork here love this photo just give some feedback on their pair maybe they'll pay it back to you and this is just a way for us to all grow together so everybody go ahead uh post your instagrams here in the chat and uh go ahead and take a look at a couple of names here in the chat and and go ahead and follow some of those people yeah do that do that and then i mention it way early in the stream how long we've been going out this is a good long one we're almost done we'll probably get out of here in about five minutes or so because that'll be two hours um i have one of these the drawers popped out of me let me turn it the other way so i have one of these little uh there's wheels that are in the drawers that you can attach to the bottom just a little rolling storage cart it's got this cool top where you can have you know your paint brushes some of your paint some of your other supplies sit on top i have an additional one of these that i want to hook one of you guys up with uh if you're interested just go ahead take a picture of your workspace on uh take a picture of it post it to instagram at me at jesus custom footwear and use the hashtag toothpickgang and uh we'll hook one of you guys up with uh that mobile storage car for sure so yeah i'll answer another question or two and then we will hop up out of here so thank you guys for joining us two weeks off of dcf live i missed you guys it is good to be back uh we have one week left to submit your entry for the dcf floral contest do not forget guys july 31st next friday at midnight will be the cut off for all submissions really looking forward to seeing those uh jerome field says what causes paint to bubble up when using a heat gun at times that means you're a little bit too close with that heat gun and it's a little bit too hot so you need to really heat set in in short spurts when you're working on leather that's where the paint will bubble up most likely so you really need to do it in short spurts and don't get as close as you probably see me do in in our videos sometimes because i'm a bad example of that so yeah that can happen the paint can bubble up if it does get uh too extremely hot look at all these uh look at all these instagrams uh popping up yeah go ahead and check out some of these awesome creators engage with these with each other and pay it back somebody engages with you go ahead and engage back with them when they post that would be a just a great way for us to all grow daniel says dylan are you excited for the nba restart next week who's going to win i'm excited i am um who's going to win i i really do think wow okay uh i think it's going to be good i don't think there's one there's one team that i would confidently be able to put money on because i think the three most common ones that you would hear would be the bucks clippers and lakers the bucks giannis still has to prove it in the playoffs he has to make it to the big stage he's completely unstoppable but sometimes he just runs into you know if he runs into a team like philly they got they got quite a few guys to throw at him i mean they can throw four different they could probably throw i don't think richardson would be able to guard giannis at all but they could throw ben simmons at him they could obviously throw horford at him they could throw him beat at him could they maybe throw that table guy at him they have they just have a lot of weapons to throw at giannis sixers haven't been able to put it together of course they still have questions on offense um the raptors they still look good too even without kawhi i mean they got ciaco you know what i mean obviously to throw giannis so but i do think giannis figures it out i think the bucks get through the east and then in the west it's really about who can stay healthy out there i i do sort of think it'll come down to the clippers and lakers uh the the the lakers i think not having avery bradley hurts um really good defender and rondo's out for a little bit that hurts uh but i mean they got lebron and a.d you know when you have two out of the i don't know top five to seven best guys in the league or whatever that's always good and then the clippers can they stay healthy i mean they've been a little up and down but when they look good they look really damn good and then if there was another i mean it's hard to say that maybe the rockets can't sneak by a couple rounds and who knows how far they could get with that small ball lineup so i'm excited to see it and i think it's pretty cool that i think it's i think it's a pretty wide open field um i wouldn't be able to confidently pick one team to put money on but if i had to if i had to put money on one team boy do the bucks look good this year i don't want to put money on the bucks uh if i had if i had to pick one i after the run that kawhi had last year is he maybe on a better team with paul george is better than ciaco might say and then that surrounding cast they got such a deep bench and they have joking noah you gotta love noah okay i don't even know if he'll get any playing time but i love that he's there so if i had to put money on one team i think i would pick the clippers i really do if i had to put money on one team uh so let's see i think the bucks have a great yeah miami yeah miami man yeah you can never count out jimmy you can never count out jimmy okay how about the spurs oh goodness yeah it's funny that uh how many extra teams in the west made it and and they're probably who knows if there will even be any movement or if just the the eight teams that are already uh in the playoff spots will make it that'd be pretty funny if it was unnecessary for those like five or six extra teams that they brought to uh to come that'd be funny uh let's see yeah clippers issue you never know okay guys we will answer one more question and then we will call it a day final question yeah we've been gone we've been going two hours time flew by guys thank you for hanging out with us let's see try to find a good one to end it yeah do your cousin says don't count on dame's probably a top seven player in the league and they got a nurkic back yeah and uh uh portland healthy uh i they they could be good they could be good definitely uh maya thomas when are your next live we try to do these every friday at about uh 4 30 central standard time is when uh i like to start them so yeah uh okay guys anybody want to join us [Music] doodling dan says does everyone buy the shoes and then sell them or do clients bring you the shoes so you can definitely do it either way totally depends on what you want to do with the client sometimes you want to streamline the process as much as possible so it could be easier if you just pick up the shoes too could be a little less time for the length of the transaction because now they don't have to go out and buy the shoe and then send it to you one less step if you just sort of purchase it and you know as long as you can get the money up front you could definitely do that so all right guys that is going to do it for us next week we will be launching our discord and our newsletter super excited about that uh one week from today will also be the deadline for the dcf4 contest so make sure you have all of your entries ready for that i just want to say thank you guys again for uh joining us for this episode
