hi everyone and welcome to making music calm Show and Tell and I'd like to say hello to my little friends the arturia minilab Mach 2 keyboard controller and this video is just to show you a few of the things that it can do so what we've got here is a fairly standard kind of layout for a mini controller keyboard two octaves of piano style keys obviously not full-sized keys so you have to be a bit careful where you put your hands but they're quite nice and springy not too since like privileges to the way the profiles here but for bass lines chords perfectly usable right for this context 8 drum pads arranged so that you can access to banks so you can actually got 16 and 16 endless rotary controller knobs for changing software parameters to touch sensitive strips one for pitch control the other for modulations that have will obviously it makes it a little bit easier to manufacture keeps the low profile as well shift control strange some parameters button to change pads from banks 1 to 8 9 to 16 and then octave up and down so that you can use full range of notes ok so we're going to plug it in my slight off sequence and then it goes dark you can expect it to be ready also what I'm going to put in here is a sustain pedal which is the m-audio sp2 and the only other thing that you can connect to the minilab mark 2 but it's probably all you're going to need if you're working with this kind of control of synth and then we start looking at the software and how it interacts ok so when you open the software you are looking at the shop window basically for analog lab lights where you can test out listen to a copy within the bulb on a particular favorite is the SEM these are all cut down versions of instruments that you'll find in arteries v collection very usable modeled synthesizer collection [Music] and already you can see here where the control is already pre mapped to parameters within the software and you just dive straight in have a listen to what's going on [Music] like I said most of the parameters are pretty mapped that as we get further into the software you can set up some of your own mappings now like this is kind of kid in a sweetshop kind of thing if she started but the real integration happens when you switch over to the main browser set out in three different sections on the left-hand side you've got search parameters and you can choose various elements the sounds you want in the middle you've got the results or just the list of presets included and then on the right-hand sides just got a bit more information about the preset that you are using now one of the easiest things you can do if you just want to step through or whizz through some of these parameters at some of these presets you can use the mouse if you want to that's perfectly acceptable it will change as you want but what is quite good about the integration is these two controls here on the left hand side now these are the controls that also have a switch attached so if you press them down at select and with controller one you can spin up and down through the list of presets press the button and you've chosen your preset then you can go on to adapt to the preset as you want we want to move on again spin controller again so listen to the art for control of nine however if you look at the left-hand side of the screen here this is where you can sort out presets and set up filters if you are looking for something specific so let's have a look after something is aggressive again it's the switch move the controller until you highlight the words that you'd like to filter down on so let's find an aggressive lead on the profit and you can see now in the results section that what you're left with is the presets that match your search criteria use controller one again and we can agree that sounds quite aggressive [Music] and then say about sound with the controllers [Music] another nice feature of analog lab light is the ability to layer different presets Arturia I've set some up already if you go to multi under instruments as a list of their Maltese and we're going to listen to a piano layered with us in clay via the drunk-ass however in this setup become switches for different menus within the layer if you switch them on to pad nine to sixteen pad 9 becomes access to the parameters for part 1 which in this case the piano pad 10 becomes the access to part 2 which synclavier and then pad 11 gives access to some kind of master controllers planning volume that kind of thing so if we wanted to change something within part 2 with hits pad 2 and then use the controllers to change where the parameters we wanted to on the second layer [Music] good for experimentation and also what you can do is make up your own Maltese so you can just drag and drop presets from various synth emulations into the multi layers here so let's have an arcane organ from a cs-80 good thing about this is you sometimes you have no idea what you're going to get so the Thea Satan mix with prophets [Music] again change or without any of the parameters by dropping into the layer menu [Music] okay and finally for this video just going to have a look at how easy is to match some of these controls within Logic Pro 10 and what we're going to do is map the sustain pedal that I've got in going to map that to the road control for the speed and also one of the rotary controllers to the amount of distortion drive that we have going through the organ so first of all let's map our sustain pedal so you can go see and the switch is moving with the sustain pedal and then the distortion Drive that's mapped back to this controller here as they just send out standard CC MIDI messages fairly easy to get controller assignments into software [Music] [Music] and as sec messages these will be recorded when you record in your performance and then playback and the parameters will change as you want them to and so there we have the art Soria minilab Marc - controller keyboard thanks for watching see you next time
