Arrests made at UGA protest encampment supporting Palestine; school says it was set up in violation

At 11. A live look in downtown Athens where tonight the streets are quiet after a day full of protests on the University of Georgia campus. And this was the scene just hours ago as students joined the nationwide string of demonstrations against the war in Gaza. And the protests led to more than a dozen people arrested 11 lives. Doug Richards was on the UJ campus tonight to speak with students about their message for the school. They were risking a second confrontation with police if they stayed too late on the quad on Uga's campus outside of the administration building. They waited until shortly before a nine pm deadline to pick up their signs and their other paraphernalia of protest and they departed from the quad vowing to return in the morning. Word spread quickly that police had confronted protesters shortly after they set up a tent on the UG quad. The university said the protesters set up the structure illegally. A confrontation documented by student journalist Keegan Brooks resulted in 16 arrests. Word of the arrests in turn swelled the size of the crowd by mid afternoon. We're asking for solidarity. UGA continues to put out statements in support of the occupation but not with the Palestinian people. Ok. Protesters said they support Jewish students but condemn the Israeli government which has killed thousands in Gaza since Hamas attacked Israel in October. Steven Sulei is a Jewish student who watched the protest with skepticism. I think there's a malicious connotation behind it and they're using anti zionism a shield to mask. You know what they're really saying? The protesters claim that the University of Georgia has financial connections to some of the industries that are fueling the war in Gaza.
