[Music] okay thank you the National Board of Review for this honor and thank you to Michael Barker and Tom Barnard at Sony Pictures Classics for believing in this film thank you for that arm you're not in that side you're on that side okay thank you for that you're truly my brother you say we've taken 200 plane flights together and that's true I'm like a nervous flier and every time he sees me getting nervous we'll go we're gonna crash when you was jumping onto army yeah was that something that Luke was directing well it just happened I think it's the the physical bond between the exists between lovers as much as it does that does between brothers you know and I think we probably sparred a couple times in Army's apartment you know he'd probably take you out of me a couple of times so we had that physical you know camaraderie that like I said is there for friends but also there for lovers and I and and I like that those those those moments are in the film what would you say what's the biggest challenge during the whole shooting of this film not gaining weight from eating all these oh one of my favorite someone asked me what my favorite memory from the movie was and I was embarrassed to say that it wasn't actually from the movie there's a restaurant called V of I and a little talent show so much good friends yeah oh yeah chef Stefano what's up there's a little restaurant called vfi and bull Tony and I went there and sat down at two o'clock in the afternoon and started to have lunch and didn't leave the restaurant until probably three o'clock in the morning and it was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life we watch yourself do you watch the movies always them yeah you know I know like you know even like army really does but you know watching himself even though he's brilliant and about everything he's in but III don't get like a kick out of it but I think it's almost important and know what you're habits are or how to get better yeah that's not your track at the track of you know yes of course you want to keep working and yes you want to have enough success to have people help fund movies with you and everything else but it doesn't seem like being famous is your is gonna be your get off you know again again this really is the honest answer is that I it's it feels so out of my hands and this is the type of movie that I really hope and I'm confident a lot of people will see but it's also like it is very specific to it's not like the Avengers or something it's not gonna be in thousand theaters so it would be like naive or something for me to be like I you know this is what I'm stepping into and even if I wanted to play into that more there would be no Avenue for it because one doesn't decide these things it just like happens you know and an army would be the first one he's gonna be many to talk about that I mean that's why you he had an aversion to studio filmmaking at one point wanted to make go into more independent cinema because he felt like he was being with great with great financial support by way of commercialism or advertising whenever being put on a pedestal to be like the next a golden boy and he just felt like hallowed by it to some extent my parents have been proud you know I really III got really really lucky with my parents and I've kind of work with other actors or even my discussions with our I mean the way his parents thought of his acting or his mm-hmm decision to pursue an acting career that's not been my experience I mean I'm really lucky in that regard [Laughter] [Music] I certainly phone with this phone doing it I mean I'm totally stealing a sound byte from army so he'll be able to kill me for this but you know getting to shoot the film that was the gift of the experience and the reception we've gotten the nominations yesterday is really incredible but just getting the shooting getting to be in Italy giving me crema getting an espresso and pasta hanging on the cat's every day that was that was the dream yeah I fell in love with everything I miss in this project I fell in love even more so with Italy and Italian cinema I fell in love Luke I fell in love with Timmy I fell in love with Grandma and most cats on O and V of I and either there was there were so many lovely things about making this project certainly not the least of which being to get to work with such amazingly talented people it's amazing being your eyes totally surreal I know army got the chance to visit cream oh what six months ago something like that but I have yet to be back in Italy let alone crema where we're gonna be soon enough so it's really crazy but it feels full circle and a lot of love a lot of gratitude for Italy and everyone who lives here this country has been very good to our me and I and to Luke as well time for some more gifts here we go oh my god together no they would have had cellphones they would have didn't have had their other friends they would have even past that social media yeah they would have not needed to spend time with each other because they would have been completely absorbed by their technology I had a month and a half to learn how to play a piano I was working with the composer named Roberto Sochi who lives underneath Luka and crema and I didn't worked hard with him every day that's where I met Barney for the first time I was in the middle of channel s it was it was slightly painful but but I'm glad that I was in a way pushed into doing it because it was a great challenge there is another great moment because there was the sentiment of the season and there was the sentiment of the John Travolta in the senior team on the-- and in timothy with on the side dancing like that was fantastic it was really perfect example of the personalities of this room three days before wrapping with the same day we shot that scene with nitrous toolbar so the feeling of nostalgia was very present during the movie certainly as as it relates to the actual process beginning of work on the film I find as an actor to immerse in the environment is first and foremost the what helps you the most in performing or in acting for calling by her name I was out in Italy a month and a half before so when it came time to shoot you've almost lost an awareness of the camera or that you were acting because uh because we had just been there so long I'll so we were shooting on one lens and and it was it felt the same on the other film - I mean the great privilege we're getting to work on calling by her name and Lady Bird is that they both feel like love letters and that Luca was working on this for eight years before we got to direct it and Greta was working on hers for five years so it's a tremendous fortune as a young actor to get to economies projects I know what it is for most factors my age for most actors period it's a lot of others names a lot of rejection so to be a part of things that are not only made but well received is that's what you said that's we dream of little ant by Jean Vigo and voyage to Italy by Rosselini the my favorite Pokemon go I know Lady Blue Valentine cuz he acting so good it's very very different yeah so this movie shows how love is a farce more powerful than laws of physics because when we are in love time is Israel and relative so I want that is what interstellar is about that is literal and to go back to what you said about making love to the grass I tried once while we were on set and it just made me itchy always dancing without music if some love is like that dancing I'm music that love is its own music I want to dance - dancing without music is terrible especially there's 75 people watching you and I mean I don't know about you but I've never been sober and thought you know what I feel like doing right now is dancing you always feel like dancing when you're just a little bit drunk because you try to let go and all that so it was being sober having no music and being stared at by a large group of people so the dancing in and of itself was hellacious but also the most important part about that scene was trying to show someone who is just totally lost and giving in to a moment in a way that a lot of people fail to do so the challenge of not having music not having you know any sort of encouragement from toxification or anything like that was just a bigger acting challenge you [Applause] yeah cool cute st kilda me softly edit this RV or motels is no emphasis on Moto G's or FS image is in America who usually yeah of course yeah impulsive Oakland and a special thanks to Army's wife Elizabeth chambers who let me crawl all over her husband for two months [Laughter] sixty pelvis up at school is a better data methanol as you shot gated Eddie yeah yeah net okay normal force motion is dissipate prepared for cheesy I can see it's been so fun [Music] did what on the street sorry sorry visited oven okay yeah do Cooper children magazine actually said GQ the activity but as a star is born in a star in memento what he said The Hollywood Reporter a scandal character kuzava konkey dong colita very dear to come to let loose what is a scary see me on this epic all talk that's Monday is your clock okay you
