welcome guys uh i'm coach rossen um lately i've been wanting to uh begin on this project but i haven't had the time to do it until this big snowstorms come through and allowed me to do it allowed me to have plenty of extra time on my hands to be able to get started on this but i'm a big razorback fan and i'm also a football coach and so um the reason what i'm wanting to do is i'm kind of really wanting to merge those two together um and and i'm a big believer and that if you can teach something then you truly understand it so really what i'm wanting to get out of this is i'm wanting to get better as a football coach but also i'm wanting to convey what i understand about the game of football and what i understand about what arkansas is trying to do and convey that to you guys um because i know there's you know there's a lot of other people out there that they're wanting to learn as much about football as they can and and that's what i want to do you know but i want you to know that i'm by no means an expert but i'm passionate about the game of football i'm passionate about the razorbacks and i want to i just want to pass on the information that i know about the game of football and and my opinions on the game of football so um that's really kind of the goal of what i'm trying to do here on this channel um but specifically with this video what i'm going to do is i'm going to break down just what kj jefferson was able to do versus missouri under the kindle browse offense kj had a really good game versus missouri this past season in 2020 completed 18 of 33 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns um on top of that arkansas had by far their most explosive game of the season with 566 yards of offense and i really think this is what you're going to begin to see as you know this next year goes on um now i mean that's not going to happen every game but i think there's going to be a whole lot more games with 48 points and 566 yards than there is with you know seven points and 220 yards but but yeah so i want to kind of break down today what kj did why i think arkansas was able to move the ball and score at a higher clip with him than with felipe franks so now again these are my opinions um feel free to feel free to disagree in the in the comments i if you have differing opinions i love learn so um but but let's get started so um the first clip i want to talk about is is right here it's a run read that arkansas ran it's it's one of the most common run reads or read options that that you would see this is the one that you run on on madden on ncaa it's it's just a simple inside zone read um so what inside zone is okay is it is a zone running concept where um the offensive line is trying to get vertical push and the running back is basically just trying to find a scene and so what we're going to have here is we're going to have a combo block right here okay these two the left guard and center are going to be comboing this man up to this linebacker okay which leaves these two men right here to combo the left guard or right guard and right tackle they're going to combo this defensive tackle working up to this linebacker arkansas does it a little bit differently here by this is but this is how typically inside zone would be blocked okay and this would leave this man right here the tight end to block the edge defender okay now arkansas does it a little bit differently here instead of this combo right here working up to the linebacker these two are going to stay on this block right here and arkansas is going to have kern right here go up to the inside linebacker leaving this man unblocked okay that's your read defender so what's going to happen is kj is going to watch that guy okay kj is going to open up to him okay and if this man attacks flat down the line of scrimmage to defend smith okay or i believe actually this is tj hammonds then he's kj is going to pull it and run out here or outside the hash in between the numbers to try to get a big play however if he stays at home okay or chooses kj or runs straight at him and kj's going to hand it off to hammonds who's going to try to get a big play okay so let's look at it a little bit let's see how they do do right here okay as you can see okay they what what missouri does here is they run a they run a stunt okay so what happens here is this man 97 is going to cross the face of the center he's going to go here while this defensive tackle loops around him so basically what they're doing is they're switching gaps they are changing responsibilities now arkansas does a really really nice job of picking this up okay so as you see okay this man basically now this combo right here is going to now be responsible for this guy and this combo between the guard and tackle are going to be responsible for this man okay and they do a really really nice job of pick of picking it up okay you notice here we get that combo stromberg does a really good job at center of picking up number 90 okay the left guard is climbing up to the inside linebacker okay kern picks up is going to pick up this guy okay and now let's look at the read okay 18 right there he runs straight at kj kj knows that he's not going to beat that guy so he gives it to hammonds because i mean he that man has now taken himself out of the play 18 is taking himself out of the play and so uh so hammond's right here really what he should be doing is pressing vertical and he should bounce it into this gap between the left guard and the left tackle okay he doesn't he bet he kind of cuts it back a little bit okay it's really quick and is able to make a really really good play um get started i mean that this is a this is a big play late in the game i mean arkansas is trying to i think it's i mean what down it's probably third down arkansas is trying to to keep the drive going less than three minutes left in the game okay and arkansas is a really really big play here to keep the drive going obviously arkansas goes ends up going down uh this next clip arkansas lines up a little differently they have three receivers to the top one receiver to the bottom smith is aligned to the right of kj it's motion to the left and so arkansas is going to run the exact same running scheme with a much different look okay and so it's still an inside zone to the left okay we're going to go here we're going to work a combo to this guy okay work a combo to this guy and and try to leave the in defender unblocked to let him make a decision now on the previous play the running back was the dive player okay and the quarterback if he decided to pull it would be the edge player okay where he's trying to get out here on the edge okay now arkansas is going to run a concept that actually flips the two responsibilities okay and that's called a bash concept or some call it a backside sweep concept okay so now to understand that what we've got to understand is we've got to understand what the play side is what the backside is and what a sweep is so the play side okay is the side to the that the offensive line is blocking the play okay they are blocking it to the left so that means the back side is over here to the right okay now what what arkansas is going to do right here arkansas is going to get smith aligned on the on the left okay and now he is going to run an outside path known as a sweep a sweep he is trying to get to the edge and get outside everybody okay so that's where it gets the back side that's where it gets the backside sweep name or the bash name okay because we are trying to run a sweep to the back side now notice there's no lead blockers other than these three receivers up here okay it's not you know there's not a puller there's not some there's not an offensive line coming out here to block for okay the goal of this is to get flow going out here okay to be able to hold all these defenders here okay and then be able to have kj run right there now let's look at let's look at the read here that he makes okay so he he gets he gets smith to his left okay the defensive end right here freezes okay we don't get a we don't do a very good job right here but the right guard misses the nose okay doesn't do a very good job so you get penetration by this man okay um but defensive end goes unblocked as he's supposed to because he's the read player okay kj makes a decision he feels as if though smith can outrun that man okay and he does they give it to smith okay gets about nine or ten yards now what i want you to notice here is the blocking on the edge arkansas does not block this play very well really at any position on this particular play okay kern misses his block okay um burke's in the slot does a pretty good job locks up with him does a good enough job to allow that play to get five six seven eight nine yards okay and then woods occupies his man downfield allows for that to allows for um arkansas to almost scan it first down now so let's look and see if let's say that that defensive end would have taken smith let's see what we would have had here okay so what you can see here is you can see five men up on the line of scrimmage they're they're in what's called man free okay they're in straight man-to-man okay and then him on the back okay and then they've got a safety deep that we cannot see okay that's known as man free or cover one okay um so now when he gives this action all right this side of the this this side of the defense is is is frozen okay this man all right is is reading the offensive line and he's starting to kind of scrape over the top here okay now that leaves so these four guys are all over here and that leaves this man right out here now if we're able to handle these three men right here one two and three okay and kj's going to have a lot of running room okay that doesn't end up happening but could you imagine if we were able to get that block just imagine this gap that that guy's going to have he's going to have one man to beat and it's going to be that deep safety okay um but i mean it didn't happen it didn't matter because it was a give and it ended up being close to a first down all right so on this next clip arkansas is going to run the same running concept but they're going to put a different man into a conflict which means basically they're going to make one man do two jobs okay and that job is either to maintain his gap in the run game or defend a receiver which is impossible you can't do both and so what these plays are called are rpos or run pass options okay they're designed to be able to cause problems to make a defender do two jobs at one time okay you can't do it all right and so let's watch this is a perfect example of one um arkansas actually scored on this earlier in the game with kern um and actually on this exact concept gronkowski scored for the buccaneers in the super bowl um on the exact same play okay so what arkansas is going to do is they're going to they're going to run their inside zone here okay but what they're going to do is they're going to bring berks in motion okay he's going to come in motion now missouri played a lot of man in this game okay and so this man is responsible for covering arguably the best receiver in the country um i mean i'll go the grave on that i really think he's the best receiver in the country um but but they're gonna make him to cover him which isn't gonna happen i mean it's you're not gonna be able to i mean burke's has a head start it's not gonna happen especially on the five-yard line okay so he goes into motion and notice that man is running with it okay now arkansas is running their inside zone okay but what they're gonna do instead of kj all right instead of kj reading um reading the the defensive end he's gonna read this outside linebacker right here okay basically he's looking for one of two things okay he's looking for this man to main maintain his c gap control or he's looking for him to run with kj okay if he maintains c gap he's gonna throw it out here to a wide open trailing berks okay um or if he uh if he goes out with with berks okay he's going to hand it off um to a a gap that is not sound and not covered okay so let's watch and see what happens all right you see immediately he's widening out he is giving up that sea gap okay we'll look and see where the run goes okay we get everything washed this way we'll look exactly what smith does he runs right where that man should have been he wasn't there because he was with he was with burps okay he runs with berks okay smith ends up getting down to about the half yard line kj punches it in with a quarterback sneak the next play but that's a perfect example of what an rpo can do and how it can cause conflict and take defenders out of what their responsibility is now imagine if imagine if that man would have stayed put okay remember this guy okay remember remember the defender look how far back he is he's three yards deep in the end zone five yards behind the play if that man stays put okay knox is running this guy off because this guy's gotta be in man okay perks would just be sitting there wide open easy pitch and catch for a touchdown okay this is one way that arkansas did it i mean does a really good job of of utilizing their best players and and causing conflict for defenders now so those three were inside zone plays okay now let's get into a different type of zone play which is an outside zone play okay now with an outside zone the first goal you kind of have really have the running back really has three paths that he can take he can either take a way outside path like the sweep that we talked about earlier or if this man or well i guess if this man gets outside of of the the left tackle okay and he can cut it up inside him okay and then the next thing is if this knows this nose tackle if he gets outside this combo block here then he'll cut it up beneath that you'll cut it up inside that okay so let's watch let's watch how arkansas blocks their assignments are the same way okay their path is different so their combos are still the same but their path is different as the inside zone okay they're going wider all right so you notice here he knows this man's getting outside the block so you know it's going to be cut up inside okay but now here's what i want you to do here's what i want you to watch i want you to watch nick bolton okay nick bolton is one of the best linebackers in the in the uh in the country he's gonna be a first round pick in the draft he's an exceptional linebacker okay but what he's doing is he's he sees he sees kj opening up there so he's going to he's going to freeze he's going to open up and he's going to wait and see if kj pulls it so he can make a tackle and he would because he's one of the best linebackers in the country okay but when he does that that takes him out of fitting this run right here okay so same read as earlier kj's reading the defensive end if the defensive end crashes he's going to pull it if he stays at home or runs up field he's going to give it so what happens defensive end for the most part stays at home he or at least kj makes the decision that he's not going to catch smith okay well look at bolton he's widening okay he's he's not defending smith at all he's defending kj jefferson well what happens is it takes him out of play typically a linebacker that would make that play probably nine out of ten times if it wasn't a read or if it may not even have been kj jefferson it wasn't a running quarterback he probably makes that play but because they've got to honor kj's legs he's slow to the play smith cuts it back and bolton could never get there and smith walks in the end zone so again it's a really good way that arkansas is utilizing reading a defender putting a player in conflict to make big play all right on this next clip um arkansas is gonna gonna block the same exact concept the outside zone okay um but they're gonna add a little bit of flair to it okay they're gonna actually run what's called the triple option okay meaning there's three options the first option is the handoff to the running back which i believe in this case is berks okay the second option is for kj to keep it now that read is the exact same read of the previous play reading the backside defensive end um and if he if he runs if he runs flat okay it's going to be a pull if he stays at home it's going to be a give to berks okay so now the next read okay or the next option is is smith okay so berks is going to be here kj's going to be there smith is going to be the pitch guy okay now so as we watch this play we can kind of see how it develops a little bit okay he's ch he's uh the in man right here okay they actually read the outside linebacker instead of the defensive defensive end okay but he doesn't really he doesn't chase bergs okay so it's a gift if they get that should be a give every time and it is okay now let's just imagine that he did chase okay if he does chase watch what it would do okay this guy's going here he's going there he's going there okay that leaves one man okay to defend two players okay and that is the deep safety that you can't even see on the screen okay so as you watch it develop okay you can really see kind of how that would cause a lot of problems okay because you've got a really athletic quarterback a really quick running back okay out in space at the 28 yard line most likely it's gonna score okay or at least be a first down it ends up not because i mean just because you're running an option play doesn't mean you're going to gash the defense okay but it's positive yards and that's what that's what you want you want positive yards um i mean he he he does a good job okay the flow of the play gets out here okay and so kj or berks does a really good job of cutting inside that um and getting at least a couple yards so but you can kind of see the potential there okay if that would have been a pool you can kind of see what would happen here okay kj would run out here berks or smith would stay in a good pitch relationship and if anybody would have taken kj kj would just pitch it off to smith okay this is a simple option game that's been going on for decades okay that was run with the wishbone with the with the flexbone i mean it's it's stuff that's been going on going on for decades it's just it's just new ways to run it okay and this is by no means a new way to run it teams have been running this exact same way for probably you know 15 to 20 years so now the next play is is something that that was a staple for arkansas this year okay and they're going to block this same the same exact concept they're going to block the outside zone concept okay to the left here all right now instead of instead of there being a a running component okay they're gonna they're gonna throw it out they're gonna throw a bubble okay which which is gonna be run by uh burke's right here okay now what i think he's doing i think he's reading this man right here okay and honestly i can't even really tell if on this particular play if this is an rpo or if this is just a designed kind of play action to get everybody to flow that way and just to throw the ball out here to berks but but i mean in my opinion i i really i really don't know but for the sake of this we'll just say it to read okay so if he's reading this man right here okay that means it's the same as that that split zone rpo that arkansas scored on or arkansas got that ran on the five earlier okay so it's the same as that inside zone rpo okay if he goes with berks hand it off if he stays at home throw it out to berks and let him be let your best athlete and the best receiver in the country go make a play okay so you can see that man starts to go with the run so kj opens up throws it out to berks okay we don't even really block it particularly well i mean woods does a good job of getting getting his head on a couple people he he occupies two people to create a little bit of space okay um but we'd obviously like him to hang on that block a little bit longer but burks gets out here gets a first down or at least close to a first down now arkansas ran this a ton all season it in my opinion is one of the easiest ways to get your best athletes to football alabama ran it a lot with devonta smith um and and all their dudes i mean every every team in the country does this to be able to get their dudes to football and arkansas does it really well burks i mean had countless big plays okay on on this play last year now another thing it does is it really helps your quarterback get in rhythm okay arkansas actually ran this on the first play of the game to woods um it only went for about two or three yards but it's just a really easy throw it's a really easy throw that allows your quarterback to kind of settle down and get into the flow of the game okay so um yeah arkansas gets it out to him big big play okay now this is a similar concept okay but now instead of a bubble okay arkansas is going to run what's called a little quick screen here okay so hammonds is out here and hammond's is just going to kind of work outside a little bit and then settle down right there okay but the reed's still the same if it's a read again i can't tell if it's a play action or an rpo but for the sake of this video i'm going to treat it like an rpo okay but same place happening okay this man's not running out here if he was running that's the only way this guy's gonna make tackles if he runs out here and he's not so kj decides to throw the football kj throws it out here to hammonds okay you got two on three blocking kern and woods do a really really good job here um but i mean you don't have enough you don't have enough guys to block but it's still a six yard gain on first and ten which i'm sure kendall briles will take every single time as would every offensive coordinator in the country that's exactly what you want you want to get at least four yards on first down and they do that by just again putting a defender in conflict utilizing space and getting the ball to their best players all right so this next clip um is a arkansas runs a different running scheme it's my personal favorite play and i think the best playing football and that is counter and so what counter is is it utilizes um down blocks uh which means each of these guys are uh to the each of the play side linemen are going to block their inside gap okay and it's going to contain a puller from the backside that's going to flat pull typically and kick out the inman on the line of scrimmage and it's going to contain another puller usually a wing back or a full back or a tight end okay that's going to pull for a linebacker in the box and so what it would look like if i drew it up is this guy that each of these three men are going to block down okay typically how teams run counter is the guard flat pulls for the inman on the line of scrimmage okay the backside tackle basically protects b gap the gap that the lineman just left from okay and then the tight end or full back pulls for that linebacker okay now arkansas is going to run this a little bit differently to expose the edge and create a read for jefferson so the still the play side center or the center the play side guard and tackle still going to do the same thing but instead these three men are kind of gonna are going to switch jobs okay so the the the right guard the backside guard is going to handle b gap okay this man the tight end is going to flat pull for the for the in-man and then your backside tackle is going to pull for the linebacker okay this allows this guy to be unblocked and for kj to read him if i can show you real quick so as we watch this okay we see that we see the tight end whoops we see the tight end pulling okay flat pulling we see the backside tackle pulling for the linebacker okay now the read here aj's reading the inman online scrimmage who clearly takes smith okay so kj pulls it now the problem with this is arkansas doesn't have anybody to block anybody on the edge they have an overhang here and out they have this outside linebacker or a safety whoever it is who's walked down who's not biting he doesn't bite on the on the play or on the uh on the play fake okay so he stays at home all right kj has to to put it back up inside ends up getting positive yards but not as explosive as some of the other reads in arkansas ran but it's a really good play okay and it's one that i expect arkansas to run quite a bit next year just because they run a lot of counter they run a lot and i mean this any way that you can read a defender is a way that you can protect your base plays and arkansas's base run game is inside zone and counter and so they're gonna they're going to read a lot off of those two plays to be able to protect those plays to be able to make defenders stay honest when they play and not crowd the box okay so now we're going to look at another way that teams can run counter and that is gt counter okay which means guard and tackle pull okay so now the guard has that same responsibility that we talked earlier he's going to flat pull for the inman the tackle is going to pull for the linebacker now naturally you have nobody covering that b gap so most times when teams run this there's going to be a read unless they were to run it to the tight end or away from the tight end and let him block the backside man but they don't do that here okay so they're gonna pull they're gonna get down blocks by all four of these guys okay a flat pull here a pull there and they're gonna read this man right here okay so as they run it okay you see they actually i i was wrong they actually are reading this man because he he kind of stunts out okay and this man drops back into coverage okay so they're gonna read that defensive end okay well he's no threat to tackle smith so it's a handoff okay this is a big play i mean this is this is you know arkansas ends up not scoring on this drive but this is a drive where they could have potentially put the game away um but they hand it off okay it's a it's a clear handoff locked really really well and what i like about this is what smith does is he gets his hand in cunningham's back okay he does a exceptional job of following his puller okay all the way up to the second level and then making a cut off of that which is exactly what you're what you want your running back to do you want him to get right behind his puller and and break off of it once he gets to the second level which what i mean by second level is the linebacker level right here okay is the linebacker level okay um so it's a give he does a really good job following his man okay eight yard gain all right if it would have been the other way if if this man would have ended up let's say they end up stunning inside so he stunts here he comes here off the edge all right well now that would probably end up being a pool and now that leaves nobody to cover to cover kj jefferson so it's a really good concept okay that arkansas utilized quite a bit oklahoma runs this a lot and they're probably as good as anybody in the country probably is the best team in the country running it um they just do a really good job of executing it and they run it with baker with kyler and now spencer rattler well and jalen hurts i mean they've run it for years i mean for several years they do a really good really good job with it now arkansas has a uh a little wrinkle off of it okay same blocking scheme okay it's the gt counter okay guard and tackle or pulling but now instead of instead of there being a downhill run this is kind of what we talked about earlier with the bash concept that backside sweep concept but a little bit different instead of him sweeping out this way okay smith lines up to his to the to the play side or well like actually to the back side okay and he's going to run a little bubble out here and and kj is going to either keep it or toss it out to uh to smith okay now kj reads this really poorly here okay we know we just talked about how to read it okay this guy's attacking you okay this should be an easy toss and that's a big play if it's a toss okay this is i think the second drive of the game kj's a little nervous i don't think he had had any run um plays to that point okay um but if you as you notice that guy's attacking here it's it's straight up three on three okay bolton is is pulling the trigger coming downhill it's straight up three on three and that's a big play if kj reads that correctly so imagine that we'll get fixed next year this is a big play and as you're going to see later this particular action set up probably arkansas's most explosive run run plays of that of that game so uh it's a really good concept but but what i want you to to notice here is is kj is one heck of an athlete okay he he screws up okay and then still gets a couple yards okay now i mean that's again like i've said that's one of the best linebackers in the country that chase them down not every team has a nick bolton okay and so um and so i mean he typically he's going to be able to outrun some of those angles but but not against that guy so a really good play by him but a bad read but you can see the concept if he tosses it right there and gets it to smith okay it is three on three and you've got a really really good shot for a big time all right so we just saw how arkansas was running a a toss action um that would that allowed them to be able to to read the inmate on the line of scrimmage so but arkansas what they started to do um in this game they actually ran it several different ways throughout the year but they ran this draw concept and what they did versus missouri is they did a toss draw so they they did that exact same action okay they move they move smith over they do that exact same action of that of that toss of that toss read okay now what's the point of this why do they do that okay they do that to get everything flowing out here okay or or maybe even up if they've seen they've seen kj keep it they try to get things flowing up well then arkansas what they try to do is they kind of try this side of the offensive line okay tries to sell everything out this way okay what the backside does is cunningham pass sets okay and i believe that's brady latham they both pass set okay to to get this guy to run up field and to get this guy to run it field so that they can so they can create a pocket okay so they can create a path for now smith to be able to run inside those two okay arkansas ran this multiple times they ran it earlier with with hammonds who i mean he had like 25 or 30 yards on the play okay and they run it here and it is i mean easy touchdown for smith i mean just a massive hole okay the play side or the backside guys i guess in this instance which it looks like it's wagner um stromberg and uh can't tell who the right guard is but they do a really good job of kind of creating a wall there okay uh latham and cunningham get their guide they do their job get their guys to sell out okay notice how flo the flow of these guys kind of start to creep this way and that allows smith to to uh to find a hole and score okay now another form of the draw okay first let's talk about the draw okay what a draw is a draw play it is it is a blocking scheme that the teams will use where the offensive line will sell a pass okay they'll sell pass first now why do they do this okay teams will typically use this in third and long situations where teams don't typically blitz okay you want to get it into situations where you're gonna drop seven or eight guys okay he's gonna drop he'll drop he'll drop he'll drop drop drop drop okay you've got eight guys uh eight guys dropping here okay so it's a really good call okay but but teams will run the draw when when they've got eight guys dropping okay or seven yeah if it's a four-front team seven guys dropping okay but uh but but the reason we do that okay is because those eight guys typically aren't going to be able to come up and make a play okay they're covering they're defending the pass they're they're closing up those windows those passing lanes okay which opens up for the run okay so now what arkansas does here is they do a little bit differently they run a draw rpo okay where they're gonna motion smith out here which is going to get bolton here to widen with him because he's in man all right he goes and that's kj's read if he goes out aj's gonna run the football okay if he stays home kj is gonna throw it out here to smith which is gonna be blocking two on two and have a good have a chance for for what would be a first down okay because it's third and three at this point okay so he bolton bolton declares he takes smith so these five men they pass that and then they release okay they release to block down field okay and kj does a really good job of you know getting more yards than he should have okay by by ducking that guy and ends up making it fourth and short which arkansas ends up going for on fourth down they run a quarterback sneak and they get a first down i think they end up going down and scoring on this drive okay so that's what a draw is and that's another way that arkansas uses um kj's legs and his mind and his arm together to be able to make big plays i expect that they'll be able to do this next year and because i know they're going to be better up front they return 10 offensive starters the only person they lose is felipe franks which kj started one game and looked really good so i mean there's a lot of confidence i think in that offensive uh meeting room um that the hogs have a chance to be pretty good offensively next year all right so that's it as far as the reads go the rpos and the run reads um but i want to talk about a few of the things that actually get me excited about potentially kj jefferson playing quarterback next year and that's his arm because i mean he's obviously proven that the threat of his legs can cause problems but but i want to talk a little bit about about what he does as a passer that i think makes him a pretty good quarterback okay i'm not going to get into his mechanics i'm not going to get into the actual concepts that arkansas is running because i don't have the all 22 film i don't have the end zone shot i'm not able to see that stuff okay but what i can tell you is what i can see on this espn broadcast okay and so the first play that i want to talk about is uh is a slant this slant play that arkansas runs from kj to trailing burns okay the first thing that you'll notice on this play okay is this play action okay arkansas has been running that bash concept okay well what that does when he does that is that that gets this linebacker i think that's bolton that gets him to flow outside to defend that because arkansas just ran it for about a 10 or 15 yard gain earlier in the game okay so so arkansas is trying to get flow out there well now what happens this guy is dropping into this pass window so you've got linebacker moving there linebacker here okay and then these three these three men are in man okay and so what kern kind of does he kind of runs this runs his man off okay which takes him out okay which really just creates a one-on-one with berks right here on that uh on that slot defender okay so but now here's what i want you to notice i want you to notice the space right here that that play fake creates okay notice the gap between these two guys now watch kj watch his watch his patience here okay he doesn't he doesn't rush that throw okay he sits there he waits for berks to clear that man or anticipates him clearing and then throws a strike for a big game okay now a quarterback that that was that was nervous or or just wasn't very good would probably sit here and throw the ball right now and and you throw it straight to this man right here and it's pick six of course 27 13 arkansas probably never recovers okay but he's patient he waits for him to clear okay throws a strike right between the two defenders and i mean the way you know it's a good ball is i mean it is immediately after he crosses that guy's face i mean this is perfect timing okay and his footwork is just i'm not going to get a lot to do with his mechanics but his footwork here he's just he's solid he's he's patient he's got good poise it's a great throw okay the next play i want to talk about okay is another example of kj's patience and his composure and his ability to really understand what's happening around him okay again i can't really see what's happening on this you know what happens downfield so i'm not going to go into the into the actual concept um i'm just going to talk about the throw okay and kj and what kj does from the time the ball snaps to the time he releases it okay so he takes his drop here all right cunningham does a good job of pushing this guy vertically okay well kj senses that a little bit just steps up gives himself a little bit more space and just look at this pocket i mean just great protection here kj waits for you what you'll see and i don't have the end zone clip okay but but kj just fits this right between two defenders he just finds berks on a climb route all the way on the other hatch which i mean timing's great all right it's just it's it's just a great ball okay a great ball a great decision um and i mean anytime you get the ball and trail and works his hands is a great decision in my opinion okay that's two i mean big time throws of him him settling into the pocket okay moving around a little bit and making a throw okay uh now this one right here i will talk a little bit about the concept okay so what you have here that missouri ran a lot i talked about it earlier is they're in man free okay they're in man on each of the three receivers and they've got a safety deep well what's the best way to to to trick a safety a single safety and that's to look him off you start i mean young quarterbacks start learning that as early as they play football okay if you've got one safety and you're trying to throw a vertical look the other way come back and throw it to where you want to throw the ball to a that first game that when he threw that touchdown to win the national championship it's exactly what he did he looked to the right threw left to devonta smith alabama wins the game okay same thing right here okay arkansas is going to run what's called a slot fade okay he's a slot he's running a fade outside the hash right on top of the numbers okay kj fakes it he notices eyes okay he's looking out here he's selling that he's gonna throw the ball out here which is gonna make that safety that you'll see in a minute that safety is gonna declare to to that side of the field well now kj sets his feet looks back has one-on-one with the best receiver in the country now look where the safety's at he bought kj's eyes kj sold him with his eyes and now he's got burks out here one-on-one you're not defending him you're not covering them okay just i mean just a just a tremendous job i mean it's a simple thing but it's something that that shows me that he understands what he understands the defense he understands what is trying to be accomplished okay and then the last play is is a play that i mean was really the most impressive play to me of the whole game okay and that's his awareness on this play on this blitz right here okay first of all cunningham doesn't do a very good job of stepping out and sliding to that man um i don't know their protection rules but you would think that he would he would be responsible for that for that outside linebacker okay kj's in his drop he senses the pressure escapes out of it then his athleticism takes over he gets about 10 or 15 yards and stumbles or he probably might have been able to outrun that guy in school all right so that's it for today's video um i i really don't know how often i'm going to be making these videos um i'd like to get to where uh maybe in the fall i do a review of of the game on saturday of arkansas game and kind of a preview of next week's opponent um but it really all depends on if if what my time what my schedule is looking like but if there's any any breakdowns you want me to do in the meantime then then please comment down in the box um if there's any questions you have i mean you can you feel feel free to comment on comment that below um but uh you know i love to learn and and i love to teach and so i'm just here to i'm here to soak up as much knowledge as i can so thank you guys for watching and i hope you have a great day
