Arizona Republicans push forward with audit of 2020 ballots

this is about wrong and right and and we want to be on the side of what's right um i hear that president fan said this morning that when half the people are wondering about the the integr integrity of their elections there's only one group of people that can do something about it and that's the leaders that are elected to look and see if they can identify anything that we can do better in arizona's election processes i was secretary of state for six years during that six years i oversaw 12 state elections including the only recount of a state election in the history of the state of arizona and the election family in arizona is full of republicans democrats libertarians independents and others who want one thing and that is to have integrity in our elections and i think so we have to do everything we can to protect the sanctity of the ballot box um you know we're never going to get 100 people 100 of the people to agree on who should win the election but we should have as close as possible to a hundred percent of the people who have confidence that the election process was done with integrity and that's what we're here to do let's talk some process everything that's happening over at the veterans memorial coliseum we're trying to make it as transparent as possible we are making sure that everything is secure the people working on the process are secure the ballots are secure ever since the machines and the ballots were delivered we've had 24 7 armed security guarding the ballots i think there's only two people in the building and one of them's not me that has the keys to the ballot corrals that you can see on the 24 7 live streaming everything is very secure but i'm not going to talk about the details of our security plan everything that's that's happening there is is just about processing the ballots and there's nothing happening there that would violate the the identity of any voters or any privileged voter information now i know a lot of people have made up their mind as to whether this audit is necessary or not i'm sure a lot of those that have have answered that no are in this audience but it doesn't matter really what your mind has already been made up we are here to make sure that arizona voters can heaven have faith and confidence that the elections that we conduct in this state in this county uh have integrity so uh this gentleman to my left you always tell me that elections ought to be what transit be transparent trackable and publicly verified and in the election that we're auditing they're claiming that this thing has been audited two or three times it hasn't and i'll explain to you very simply why it wasn't right here in the mind okay i was there for the august primary i spent three weeks in maricopa and first i want to tell you i think it could be one of the best election departments in the united states and when i got to the hand count audit that they did and i was part of that process we picked 50 batches of ballots and they were picked before the election we picked two to four batches per day now i want to remind you that they were picked before the election and then we went ahead and we put in what i call a scarlet letter the scarlet letter is here is the results for those 50 batches okay now those 50 batches were audited and they added up perfect but they were flawed you picked 50 batches before the election before you've committed the results and that means is that if you have 9 600 batches you pick 50 you only count 25 an insider could know what batches not to hack it's like saying that we got 9 600 batches in the state and i'm going to put 50 cops at 50 batches those banks and because those banks were not robbed we know that the other 9 500 were not that's a problem okay and then on top of that they keep saying we run a logic and accuracy test and they keep saying it over and over they do these audits running logic and accuracies logic and accuracy test is a very important process it tells you that everything is working right at this moment it's all it's proving now how do i know that because volkswagen built a computer that they put in their diesel car that passed emissions in this country maybe a million and a half to two million times i want you to know volkswagen had to buy back all these cars and i want you to know that these cars did not cheat by 40 on the emission test it didn't cheat by 80 it was 40 to 80 times over the limit so clearly a logic inaccuracy is an important test but it doesn't it's not an audit and so we're doing the first audit and we're working very hard and yes we've had some glitches but we're working to take care of that we can yes we are thank you okay i'll take a few questions if there are any i don't know the specific number of ballots as of today because they hadn't got the count in from today's work but with the progress that's being made every day dennis we are on track to have the counting of the ballots done by the end of the time that we have veterans memorial coliseum to do the work in so we're we're on track to to get the job done and the time that we have no i didn't get the numbers because i i didn't i wanted to include right up to date but did you get the numbers no so you don't have the numbers i have an estimate of what the number is but we're on track it's it's in the tens of thousands might be approaching a hundred a hundred thousand transparency yeah i think it's just shy of a hundred thousand ballots i don't have the specific number um but there's improvements being made every day bram and we are on a we're on a pace to get the work done get the counting of the ballots done by the during the time that we have the facility so the uv lights are looking uh at the paper and it's part of uh several teams that are involved in the paper evaluation jeremy what exactly i i personally don't know we're looking for a lot of things okay they are at least the people are doing the examination pardon me then we won't find anything right what they're looking for is folds and pieces of paper because there's a guy who came out and said certain things that the that the ballots were stuffed okay that we're gonna find bamboo in the paper there's a lot you know we're out here really doing a lot of uh un-ghost and ghosting people who believe strange things okay i know if there was something done uh it would have been done through the secret software that we vote on and it could be a fractional attack we call it fraction magic i was on that team they're calling it other people are calling it hammer and scorecard okay which i don't know those two programs i know that i was with black box voting when we discovered fractional voting that's involved in our voting system which is a very big problem we should all have a whole vote and it's one vote and it should be counted as one not three-fifths of a vote not four-fifths of a vote a whole vote so it's evaluation we're evaluating the paper we're evaluating we're evaluating the paper it does really i've been doing it for 17 years for me okay i'm sorry okay who else has a question okay yes we don't have any indication or anything that's what's going on in camera one we don't you know that's that's where the machines you're talking about camera one where the machines are be evaluated all they're doing all they're doing right now is they are downloading the images and all of the electronic information that were on the machines they're making a copy of that information so that they can do the analysis on the copy and not risk any damage to the machines so they're simply downloading the forensic information from the machines it's an experienced it company that has done that for two or three decades i believe ben ben's company so someone else yes sure yeah everything related to the audit will will come out in a report we're probably 50 days from that but uh we're working hard to get there my question to you is you obviously want the public to trust what you guys are doing in the coliseum that's yes that's why we have 24 7 cameras uh have been running since the machines and the ballots were senate delivered fan allow us to have an independent camera inside as you as cybernetics continue to make sure to ask the support to not release the procedures and to try to seal them from public court why probably because probably probably because when we allowed the uh the press in there one day all evidence is that somebody propped up propped the door open and others came in and walked around the building talking about how easy it was to get into the building so we've had some issues with the press i know that you have issues about we're not being as transparent as you'd like us to be but as of today we have press there at the facility watching every shift and whether we have two shifts a day as we have or go to three or four the press will be allowed in on every shift it's not the senate's procedures the contractor wants to protect i think some proprietary things and and the judge will decide the judge will decide the judge will decide whether parts of his procedures are proprietary and deserve protection or whether they don't and they'll all be opened up you mentioned specifically senate president fan this morning talking about half of people didn't trust the results so we have to do this in order to make sure that everyone trusts it but the other half that does already trust the results with all of this back and forth with seemingly some mismanagement they're not going to trust it at the end so so how do you actually well the half of the people that don't trust the election results of 2020 were the opposite we're the opposite half [Applause] hey hey hey hey no please okay the half of the people that don't trust the 2020 election are the opposite of the other half of the people who were screaming fraud and mistrust of the 2016 election so in a four-year period we've had just about all of the country in one way or another express some frustration over whether our elections in america are secure and whether they're they have integrity so i think that's why the senate had the courage to say we're going to find out in arizona and we're going to audit maricopa county it represents more than 60 percent of the state of arizona and we'll be able to tell both sides that the whole the whole state yeah we'll be able to tell the whole state yeah well maybe it's a third that didn't and the third in the middle and the third that so yes we're going to be able to tell every arizonan in a few weeks that they can have complete integrity and trust in their elections or that we have some parts of the election that need to be improved and that's what the that's what the secretary of state's office does that's what i did for six years every two years we review the procedures that were used in the election before it and we look for ways to make it better in the next election and that's all that this is doing there's nothing about this audit that has anything to do with trying to overturn the 2020 election it's only about it's only about how to make elections better going forward yeah funding the senate contract is 150 000 i think it's going to take way more than that but i don't know exactly what that number is yet but i believe and i'm fighting to make sure that the full amount is transparent to the public and actually runs through the senate because there's hundreds if no there's thousands of people around the country that are donating five fifty five hundred five thousand whatever dollars to organizations one of them is fund the audit dot com if there's anyone listening watching or whatever that wants to make sure that their elections have more transparency please go to fund the audit dot com and and all of that money i am going to fight with every ounce of breath i have to make sure that all that money goes through the arizona senate and is publicly disclosed and if 501 c 4s or other organizations want to donate through the arizona senate to that cause that will all be known to anybody who wants to track the money down the contract for the amount this would actually cost because probably they didn't want to spend more than uh more of the taxpayers money than they had to and and they they initial they initiated they initiated the contract with a hundred and fifty thousand 000 and they took some risk along with the auditing companies that the difference would be made up by contributions and donations from people all over the country and that's exactly what's contract did happening know i can't afford all this or i won't pay all this we're going to rely on private donations was that understood between fan and doug logan before this process started you'll have to ask fan or doug logan about that but i believe i believe that they knew it was going to take more than 150 and it would it would require donations or grants just like election departments in many of arizona counties and the secretary of state's office received grants and funding from the private sector to conduct the election in november of 2020 and and all and i just said i just said i just said the rules that applied to the election will apply to the audit uh there were private funds uh allowed to come in and we'll we'll know all that in a matter of months well if he if he and if he does that will be all that all gets disclosed uh when when the reports of the 501c4 contributors are disclosed that's just that's just like what happens when the companies when the organizations if you're not not going to let me answer questions brand then i'm not going to answer them okay so i do have another question there's a lot of talk about trust part of your history is you launched an investigation into a conspiracy theory no i did not apologize to it for it i i did not launch an investigation so i'm not going to even address that we're here to talk about the audit of an election in maricopa county that the senate had the courage to initiate and it's going to help people around this state and around this country know that they have complete confidence in their elections or where we can make them better so that's all the time i have i'm over there working from 6 30 in the morning until midnight then i'm going to get back over
