Are These Dolls Really For Adults? - Secret Crush

is it just me or does this seem like a lot of work [Music] hey guys i'm back and today i'm going to be checking out a new line of dolls from mga and i'm actually excited about it shh don't tell anyone so we're gonna be checking those out but first a story your favorite part of the whole show i know i know back in july of 2020 depending on when you watch this i had a chance to go to a virtual showroom and visit different booths of major brands which includes mga and while i was at their booth i got a chance to see some of the stuff that's set to come out this year the final item which caught my attention immediately was the new line of dolls called secret crush and honestly let me tell you the moment i saw the artwork for them i knew that i had to have them in my life it was now my mission like there is nothing else that i needed or at least at that moment and for the two and a half weeks that followed now in the days after that event i was contacted by some of the people i met at those booths representing those brands to see if i wanted to test out any of the things that i had shown interest in which is pretty cool however wouldn't you know mga did not contact me and you know what it's not exactly a secret i don't think mga likes me and that's okay that's okay i took it upon myself to figure out how to get the dolls and i all but swam to america to get them the border is closed folks it wasn't going to happen which meant i had to find a way to get those dolls from the us to canada apparently in this situation i am canada because they weren't here yet that's the point i'm making they weren't here and there was no way i was getting them which meant for the next two and a half three weeks however long it's been since july 22ndish to now is how long i spent searching for them in addition to motherly duties breathing eating cleaning playing animal crossing working all that stuff but every other waking moment was spent trying to find these and the rainbow high dolls it did take a little bit of uh finessing on my part because i had to go to toys r us for one thing and then i was supposed to go to walmart for another because they said it was in stock but it truly wasn't because i got there and there was absolutely nothing so i had to call another walmart to make sure that they had it before i went there because i wasn't about to drive that far and they did so i got there and i got the second one and then i got a mini one and then i came back here and here we are i got my secret crush and i did it on my own i spent a lot of money but i did it and now i'm happy i guess i really didn't need to build up this last few seconds there but i was just really excited and you guys needed to know how devoted i was to this cause side note if you you're in the right spot because if you want to know what secret crush is all about well then we're going to find out those secrets and here they are i hit something oh i'm falling i'm dropping them okay they are not fitting on screen let's just yeah that's not happening all right so this is what the large secret crush case looks like and in canada this costs 60 before tax and when i was looking up the price for them in the states they were listed for forty dollars on the walmart website but if those super expensive cases are not your jam whether in size or price we don't judge here because that's astronomical to be honest then you can pick up the minis for 14.99 if you're here in canada and unfortunately when i looked for the us price it's not listed sorry folks you're gonna have to do some digging on your own but do that later because first we need to open a thing and to be honest this is gonna take a while so i'm gonna tell you right now i'm only opening one of these big cases today and i think because i bought these for myself as a birthday present i've decided i'm going to open sunday swirl here because she comes with a piece of cake making this decision a piece of cake but if you do want to see what this doll set looks like and what the mini is like then make sure you're subscribed to gbtv so that you can see this review when i do it later so this is a large pink plastic heart and it's got a hammer shaped like a piece of cake and this is going to pop off and we're going to beat this heart to death which is actually kind of funny if you think about it the secret portion of this playset is that the dolls are hidden except they're actually not because it shows you right here sunday swirl is your large doll and your small one is going to be winnie waffle so really how secret is your secret now we can open it i don't want to break the box though because it's really really cute okay that was a mission apparently i just broke the bottom off turns out they have plastic pieces that you're supposed to remove the tape and twist them to get them out but i didn't know that i didn't realize that we should have opened from the bottom of this box to get to this piece and i kind of just ripped it out but luckily my picture's still intact and now this is what's left our pink case with a bunch of zip ties tape and some uh twine on the back so let's just get at that oh i cut my hand ow that blood oh no it's not okay it's just stained plastic that would have been gross now as i open this successfully might i add i do want to mention one thing that i noticed when i was at that event other than how cute the dolls were i noticed in the artwork that they had really stiff bodies and super cute pointed toes now everybody else might have saw that and went wow that's really cute but not me i said how practical is that gonna be as a child's toy it didn't look like they'd be all that posable or bendable or dressable i don't know about you but at sixty dollars if the doll can't do those things to function as an actual toy then i don't really know that i'd buy it for a child i'd be more inclined to buy it for myself and put it on display which leaves me asking the questions of who is this doll really for and i hope to answer that question once i open it oh my gosh she's really in there ow dang those are tight i am fairly confident i finally got them all so let's go ahead and open our crush okay the front just pops right off which is excellent because i hurt myself a lot already oh that feels weird and inside we've got this hard plastic pink shell and two lighter pink hearts in the center and we're supposed to take our hammer and just bash the everlove and heck out of these hearts oh just like that okay cool oh but on the sides there's two smaller hearts a little hard to see in here but the acoustics are fantastic uh what i was saying before i was so rudely interrupted was that on the sides there are little hearts with elastic bands so i could easily just pop that off and not have to break this however it is part of the secret crush process it is after all the crush part although it's hammering so it's like secret hammer but you know what it's meant to be so let's hammer away it's hammer time is this ruining my cake is this scented no it's not okay someone always asks what's that made out of though feels like clay i don't like it it's dry hulk smash it's very loud oh it's falling all over the floor it's making a huge mess all right so we revealed our doll kind of sword up smash smash i was gonna pull the rest of them off i mean this is really fun but realistically it's not necessary considering you could just take off this whole heart thing i mean if the shape looked cute after you were done destroying it so that you could display it again i guess that would make some kind of sense but right now it just doesn't it's filled up in there let's make more of a mess why not this is sunday swirl she's adorable she's not going to be able to be removed through this shape actually you can't pull it out at all she's got zip ties and stuff on her too there is literally no point to breaking open these hearts you literally have to take off the plastic outer heart in order to access your doll and remove her what so here is our doll now you can see that she is on the left and then we have two hearts on the right one is pink and the other is yellow and we can apparently open her hair and her head not weird at all to find surprises and then after that we'll open the surprises that we're gonna pop out of here so i'm just gonna go ahead and pop these hearts to get those surprises now well that's cute got a little pink jibber here and i think it's a doll stand to be honest and then another little surprise which we'll look at better in just a second because first we need to free our doll why does that come off i went to put this on the ground and that thing just literally fell out why is that even removable that's really strange to me but okay let's just put that back in and uh here is the empty heart case i will admit this is kind of cute because once you take off the stickers you can always fill this back up and use it again oh it doesn't fit back on there there's no lip what did this fit onto are you kidding me right now okay the lid hooked on to the inner heart piece that's so lame nobody's gonna want to put this back in it looks dumb it's not even a cute shape after okay well that just fell out again let's try to add that pink piece okay so let's get an idea of what this looks like now folks out almost hit myself in the face we got this we got this so my stand is in now you put the then we put the shell cover back on try that again excellent notice the super odd shape which could have been cute had a whole bunch of it not actually popped out of the grooves so if i take my time to remove the rest of this which apparently isn't going to happen right now i can add some glue and some yarn or something else that would make it stand out as two hearts again and then it might not be super horrible okay first things first we have a checklist wait oh it's actually a game okay good job mga i see you i see you making clever things up so the checklist is actually in the form of little collector cards and on the back here it does not make one complete picture and that's because we're supposed to cut these out so that we can put them together on this side to make a puzzle i like that i like that a lot let's try to get up close so you can see it a little better it looks like there are going to be 12 different characters you can collect in the mini playsets and there are going to be five different personality types which includes sweet swirly sour spicy and secret and in case you don't see what i see i am going to point this out for you millie dollops and winnie waffle cone the two dolls that come with the large playsets are dolls that you actually have the opportunity to collect inside the mini playsets which is great that means you don't have to buy the large ones if you don't want to and although i'm not opening a mini playset right now i'm really hoping to get tilly twist when i do because she's got light greenish blue hair and i think that would be really cute in the meantime i have her and she's got light greenish blue hair too these guys are packaged holy are they ever they're heavy too obviously it always takes me longer to open things so i'm talking to you guys as i do it but i just want to say this took a long time to open jeez louise oh no i dropped her bow it just sits on her her back so cute okay there's a bunch of elastic bands holding her head on so i'm gonna take those off and here is a sunday swirl how cute is she but do you see what i mean look at her legs like unless you're like and always keeping her la la la la la you can't really play with her and her legs do not move there's no rotation at her legs whatsoever there is some in her arms i'll give her that there is some in her arms and does her head move it does her head is like more of a tilt type thing i mean it's very tight you can't really rotate it left to right maybe you could over time but for now it's really really stiff but you can definitely pose it up and down at this really cute huh puppy dog type angle now hate me if you want to but i think i was right on this other than her arms being able to move forwards and backwards think lego man um she can't really do much and i do think it's gonna get old in a hurry to always have to hold your doll up and she is quite heavy she's really decently heavy this is definitely more a thing that an adult would have if they were into this aesthetic and have it on display then it is a kid's item i really do believe that but she is crazy cute so let's uh check her out real quick there you go we'll go in for a little close-up so you guys can see this is sunday swirl she's got a pale skin complexion with black eyes and a cute little heart-shaped mouth and that is literally it for her face her hair is two-toned and it's a mix of white and teal or a very light aqua color and it's styled in two big swirly pigtails on either side of her head and on top she's got some dripping pink frosting a dollop of glittery white whipped cream and she's wearing a waffle cone bow with a cherry in the front she comes wearing a dress the top portion looks like a pink waffle and the bottom dress is white and glittery with two heart-shaped waffle pockets blue frosting dripping underneath them and pink blue and yellow sprinkles all over and then on the back she's got a minty green bow and it comes off and there's gonna be a surprise inside moving down you can see her feet she's standing like a ballerina on her toes she's wearing some white stockings which are also glittery she's got pink laces in the front with two little pink hearts on either side a teal band on top and matching little ballet shoes and the dress comes off just like lol clothing but on a large scale so at least she's easy to get clothes on and off of although i don't really see why because right now there's no mention of outfits being sold separately for these large dolls and at 60 a piece i don't really see many people going out to buy a second doll just to switch the dresses between the two or forty dollars each if you're in the states but anyways back to this underneath her dress sunday swirl is wearing a two-piece minty green set so there's a little strapless bra and panties or maybe it's a bathing suit it's up to you but either way it is covered in hearts now let's put her outfit back on and we will uh break open her head to get her surprises all right so according to the directions the first thing that i should do is use the tear strip that's not working to take off the plastic and open her hair look at that try that again look at that there's a surprise in her hair wow and now to get it back on excellent and uh since she can't stand i'm gonna put her right here oh you can't even see her never mind i'm gonna use this doll stand instead i was right it definitely holds her but not for play i'm not gonna be like hey how's it going walk walk walk but for now it's better than having her fall over while i try to open presents that came inside her hair here is the first one it's very very reflective i'm sorry i'm not gonna deny the fact that it's super adorable it looks like a package of candy in fact it looks like mike nikes which i love however i truly believe that they could have had this exact adorable outcome in a tissue paper form because you can have printed tissue paper pearlescent and all that is a real life thing it did not need to be plastic but since it is i'm going to open it carefully that way i can reinforce the entire thing with clear tape later and we can reuse it with other dolls speaking of dolls inside we have a doll body what all right this is the lower body and the upper body and together they make a full body oh hey it's got more movement okay so jen is starting to think that maybe the minis is something that would be good for children and the large ones is definitely more a collector item because like i said you can't really do anything with that one but these have movement five points of articulation ready arm arm leg leg and eventually when we find it she'll have a head that can move and i know this because it's just a big round ball which means we're gonna have to pop the head right on just like the bigger doll this one also has a pale skin complexion except this time the under clothes are pink and the socks are a pearly white with a broken heart half on each leg and then on top we have a yellow stripe and matching shoes once again on point next we're supposed to take a surprise out of the top of her head that's unsettling and here it is put her brain back on so weird i mean it's definitely creative i will admit that put her back in there and here's what we removed from her brain cavity it looks like an ice cream so the bottom is a cone and on top yellow ice cream with pink sprinkles once again tissue paper just saying totally a possibility here we go this is what was inside a little tank top dress the top half is pearly pink and white and the bottom is a waffle cone and this is what she looks like so far still headless but slowly coming together and right now her dress is sort of like swoosh because it's shorter on one side than the other the next surprise comes inside of the bow that's from the back of a sunday swirl's dress and inside we almost dropped it we have a little striped packet once again resembling candy all of these resemble sweets or ice creams of some sort but this one here has some pink string on the front of it and that string was inside of a little plastic tube which you're not really going to be able to see but now i'm noticing that this is also taped so i'm going to try to untape it to see why oh literally no reason it was another plastic too why didn't they just stick the string to this one they already stuck it to it anyway what was the point of that plastic you see what i mean come on once again this is very cute so i'm just going to cut a small hole in the back then i'll be able to reinforce it with tape again it might just seem like i'm griping but i mean if nobody cares about the waste that we're making nothing's gonna change and also if i'm gonna be spending good money on something and it's decorated and i can use it again then why not cut a small hole fill it with fluff or scraps of other plastic or styrofoam later and then tapenade it and then boom you'll have fake candy that you can use over and over forever i mean some might say that's cheap but i say it's a genius anyways back to this so i'm going to take the bow and dump the contents of this package inside here because it's beads oh they look like little candies hold on i'll show you them don't spill don't spill and there we go so we have they're dropping pretend that didn't happen okay no it's going again stop it take a look guys hurry before they fall we've got pink and pastel orange waffle printed stars and there are five of each and then a bunch of little round ones that are pink and white i'm just gonna put the lid back on that before i spill any more and i'll make some kind of bracelet i'm assuming in a bit but first we move on to surprise number four and this was the surprise from the pink heart this one's got mint little sides and then pink or red and white stripes in the center can we twist it yes we can and what the heck is that oh it's hair okay cool and inside we have two pieces that click together so this one here is transparent and it's got two white sprinkles on it and this one here is a pearly pink with three white sprinkles and together they make a hairdo but we don't have a head yet but that would be most likely in this surprise here which is from number five and this was the yellow heart unless of course this was actually from number four which was the pink heart and i accidentally opened the one that i thought was number four when really it should have been number five but we won't know until i edit and that's part of the fun once again we have a little ice cream cone treat for our surprise bag this one is a minty ice cream on top with little chocolate chips so it's probably mint chocolate chip and that one actually opened decent so i can keep it and inside we found her head this is winnie waffle cone and let's attach her completing her body for her facial features there is not much to her she's got black eyes and a little smirk for a mouth and some blushing on her cheeks and if you look at her face she looks like she is up to no good she's literally scheming that's what i see her hair is pearly pink with white streaks and a small little white sprinkle down here and a little curl in the front and as i predicted her head can move very well giving us our five points of articulation once again that is her head both arms and both legs meaning that she is in fact more useful as a toy than that one and now we know and i am falling off the couch because for some reason i decided to sit to one side now all we have to do is add that plastic bit to her head and boom this is winnie waffle cone however we have all those beads and in the picture it shows all of those star-shaped waffle pieces in her hair so i'm going to add those instead of making the bracelet but i do want to point out that the little jibber that sticks out of the hair piece into her head is only on the pink side so the transparent side literally pops right off and that does not uh make me feel super confident about the decision to fill this with beads because you drop her and boom beads everywhere and nobody wants that the beads are all falling oh my gosh whack how many is too many okay there we go all right i put the beads in she looks super adorable very very cute however let's just say jen butterfingers comes along and accidentally drops her oh that wasn't even much force it just pops open and that's because these don't actually click okay that clicked but like they literally pop apart they don't have a little jibber that keeps it jibbed i think it would have made more sense if the little thing on the bottom was half of the transparent side and half of the pink side because then at least once it's attached to her head it would stay in place so not only does this run the risk of literally just falling off of your doll's head but it also pops open so if and when it does fall off her head as a whole piece it's going to explode or you just want to test it yourself so you just say hey i wonder what will happen still explodes either way it's gonna explode okay that's that's just fact according to the instructions let's just get real here yeah no it says add the beads to the hair in addition dropping it apparently in addition to pieces of the shell oh what hold on hold the phone really glad i just checked this out because it says we can turn our hammer into a smaller character if we pull off the stick what where's my hammer hold on here it is okay this is good news because i was gonna comment about how uh sunday swirl here can't hold this hammer after meaning it's kind of useless after we smashed the heart open but apparently we can take it off by twisting the stick and pulling it down giving us another character wow so handy to have instructions that could have been embarrassing all right she is now back together staying intact because i'm not gonna drop her again and we can put her with her friend although i'm really kind of sad that they didn't give a little hook to hold her that kind of sucks okay this is falling can't make it stand up once again proving my point now it's gonna sound like i've done nothing but complain this whole time i do want you to know that i am extremely happy with this it is a great quality i haven't found any problems in the actual details or materials or anything like that the doll is super cute she's substantial she's going to last however that does not mean she is not without flaws and i think it's important to point out these flaws because otherwise how is anything going to change this is why there are focus groups and testers and stuff like that because if you don't know there's a problem you can't fix it and also if you go to buy this and you don't know that if a doll can't stand literally unassisted or at all without this clip here then you might not be super impressed and you might find yourself thinking man i wish i knew that ahead of time and that's where jen comes in i do this so that people can think about these things before making their purchases that tend to have a huge price tag so yes at the end of the day i am quite happy with this unfortunately as i predicted i do feel that this is more of a collect and display doll for the older audience and that the minis are what you're looking for if you plan on getting this for someone to play with because they can move just know that you might lose pieces of the hair or whatever was inside them okay guys that is it for sunday swirl of the first of our large secret crush dolls i am loving her to be honest because as
