mumbles are not humans breaches Johanna representation absolutely matters and it's really important for children one Buhl's are not human characters are they and they were created in we know by Elizabeth Marcos mum in a certain way she didn't want them to get involved in the world of politics religion or the rest of it why do you think it's important that they are changed well I think that the way that they originally were is that necessary necessarily and racist I don't think that you know there's been a big campaign to say the Wombles have to be diversified I think that the different nobody's actually saying do it why do it well I think that it's a decision that somebody else has made that it's not the creator and I think that it's something that's just letting the characters actually evolve into this new generation and I think is actually very kind of an cultural culturally and Society in society a lot more relevant right now human things so they do things like you know recycle and you know when children watch em shows like this whether watching a cartoon or anything like that the actions that those characters are taking irrelevant to these children so it just don't agree though do you what joiners just said in regards to the actions that they're taking is really important but it doesn't matter what color they are that shows actually I'm going to make that decision to recycle and run cycle it's about actually someone's created within their mind the fictional character that does great things for the environment and it's about learning about the things that they do not what they look like or who they are so I think that's really important and there's so many other ways to demonstrate diversity and inclusion it seems so patronizing to me I'm not a black person but if I was I would think I've come really you're gonna darken the skin tone of Wombles to try and make some diversity point to me it just it's a grating point it's unnecessary nobody was calling for it and it kind of makes a mockery to me of what is a really important battle which is the battle for genuine diversity in all aspects of life yeah and I don't speak on the whole obviously black community but in my own opinion it's it's something that allows that creativity that imagination of young people miss so mainly have a ways to educate people for example the Teletubbies they have the different diversity of different colors but within their tummies they show you the different things inclusion and diversity within the walls and I think for me and we're in a completely different generation when these were p.m. were made originally in the 70s and we've said that there were progressive in terms of you know the environmental things and there were they'll kind of push in the boat when it comes to that but with now I think p.m. what real it would be progressive would be actually adding on about the diversity about you know veganism if somebody's an environmental vegan I think that it makes a difference maybe one of the I think most important with this is that the characters as well and seem to have evolved so and I think they've got their own social media and platform now you know into the Brahma and Twitter and they have things like you know be kind campaign I think that the actual remit of what the Wombles trying to teach children now is a lot different have you heard a single person in the entire world other than the makers of this new remake actually say you know what we really need is some more diverse Wombles have you ever heard anyone say that I really want to see a black Womble I only the people have a problem with this are the ones that are making this a much bigger deal so I think that it's something that somebody sat maybe sat around a brainstorming table and said you know what we're going to evolve these characters because it's about cuz his mother created the Wombles and his sister is still writing them I think that they're probably entitled to have a view one thing that I will say is that in terms of this whole argument with Marcus's point I completely respect that and I can you know understand it because I can see it from like a sentimental point of view but if I sit here and have this conversation about diversity and objective you know okay for them to be different sure okay you know what year it is we had a guy called a kid come on who was the head boy at the school where mega marketer made her speech and he went up and made the joke about her looking beautiful and so on and in ten minutes that boy for me did more for diversity and inclusion and race issues and anything that anything we've had on this program probably in five years blacking up a Womble has the complete opposite effect to what the people doing it think it has it doesn't actually he'll benefit right in the first place I'm not quite sure what sort of human character just going back to that point that you mentioned case about a kid who is he was an amazing interview I say it myself I'd reposted it but in regards to him there are thousands of other young boys just like it's about what you perceive and what you put out there my point being that he he is a role model and inspiration in that one interviewed with us in that moment with Megan Markel to me he's such an empowering and man to other young black men and and young girls he's a human yeah this is exactly my point so why are you even putting fictional characters yes diversity and realistic human here and how they can learn so for me it's about how can we keep it the same it's about what they do not what they look yes your honor yes lovely to see you thank you very much and thank you all very much he'll give us your views on whether the Wombles should be more diverse well we have a statement from the new owners of the Wombles who said we believe that everyone can make a positive difference to their local environment we can all be Wombles by recycling reusing rethinking the way that we live so be kind to people and the planet love from the moment interestingly nothing in there about blacking up the Wombles and actually everything in there was what the Wombles were originally about as marcus said his mother when she wrote them made the Wombles all those things they were quite woken ahead of their time but nothing in that statement refers to skin color or skin tone or tone of the so there you have it even in their statement they don't defend what they've done actually it's irrelevant to what the one will stand for remember you're a woman I remember on the wall competition time here's Andy with the details love the Wombles you
