hi my name is nun silva i'm a 3d artist and running my own youtube channel and in this tutorial i'll show you how to do post processing of a 3d exterior render in photoshop this is the render i'm going to edit in photoshop and i did this in lumion and i have here my main render i have the emit occlusion the material id so we can select different materials we have the sky alpha and the specular for the reflections and instead of loading all of the images one by one into photoshop what we're going to do is let's go to photoshop and here we'll find here on the top left file let's go to scripts and here you can find the one load files into stack let's click now go here to browse and now here we find all these files let's just select all of them and click ok you can see them here and press ok so now you can see that all the files are all into separate layers so i'm just going to move them for better organization okay this is like this so i have here my exterior render first thing is i need to crop these black bars so i go here to crop tool and you'll find here on the top the ratios so in my case it's one by one square if you want specific ones you can always type in here and just press here this check okay so now there's no more black bars and so now let's start our basic color correction instead of going to add immediately the filters the first thing we need to do is we go to filter and convert for smart filters so we can see that it's with a smart filter if here on the bottom right corner we have this new icon and this way every filter that we add so if we go to add a gaussian blur we can see that now we have here the gaussian blur and we can deselect it or we can simply double click and still edit this file or if we don't need it anymore just right click and delete smart filter okay so this way every change you are going to make to our design it will be non-destructible so it's always best to work this way so let's go down to filter and camera or filter and so here you have the basics to control everything on your image all the color properties and the exposure highlights shadows and on the top you see here the histogram and this will tell you if your image is overexposed or underexposed if it was overexposed you will see that that curves will be all to the right and you can see here already on the image that it's overexposed but then the opposite if it was underexposed to be all to the left you can see here so this way you can control better the exposure okay so for this image like this was fine 0.05 and then we have here the temperature and since this image it's in a very bright sunny day i'm going to increase here the temperature to about 10. so it really feels more like a bright sunny day here the teens sincerely have a lot of greenery i'm going to composite a little bit to the right about three then the contrast is okay highlights thick they are okay as well we don't have anything super bright shadows i'm going to increase so if you increase all the way you see that the image will look very washed so be careful we need some contrast in the image so i'm going to make it about 20 then the blacks i'm going to decrease a little bit and texture i'm going to add about 10 and this texture what it makes is that it will create more details in this areas here on the on the image and the vibrance and saturation i'm going to leave as it is here on the bottom you'll find this toggle to default settings so if you click it this was how the render was before and then after all the changes we made here already this is how it looks so you can see now the image looks much more vibrant with more light it really feels more like a sunny day so let's press ok and again we have here the camera filter can always turn on and off and you can always go back to it if we need to make some extra changes this lighting one so it's the image occlusion it's useful if you want to add some details into the shadows into the contact shadows so we can go here and make it multiply now on the bottom we'll find here add layer mask so click it with this black color as the foreground we can change here the the order we can either now press alt plus backspace to fill with black or let's go back we can go here to the gradient right click and find the paint pocket tool and i'll just click here on top of the image and it will fill with black and so now with the pressing b key or going here by brush tool with a larger brush about here and with the color the foreground color is white change here the opacity on the top to 25 now we can start painting some areas so we can give a little bit more detail into the shadows we can switch with x to to the black like this so if you were to make a mistake you can always either undo or switch to to the black and erase it so i just adding here a couple of details here and there so before and after and then we have the specular which is the reflections and we change this to screen now we can see the reflections better okay but still it's too strong we go to fill and make it about 20 okay now let's select here the material id and so each color that you see here it's a different material so it's easy for us to select it and to add it so we can go here to magic wand and now select this one deselect here so we just have here this mask and now let's go to add a new one new adjustment layer and let's add the exposure here on gamma correction let's move it to the left a little bit and the exposure a little bit to the right so we have a little bit brighter area here you see that other areas were affected it's no problem we can always go here to the brush tool and with the black selected just paint it back here okay now it's just affecting this area we're going to introduce now a little bit of color grading by going here to the new adjustment and color balance and now we can here on the shadows select shadows we can make the shadows a little bit red here the green like this it's fine then a little bit more yellow then go to the highlights and we can make it red as well now let's go to the mid tones and let's make it a little bit more blue okay so the before and after before and after so i'm always making slight adjustments i don't want to go over the board with the edits now let's create here a new layer and we can call this umi trick layer and i just want to go to the grading tool so right click here gradient tool and we'll select here a yellow color so you can select here on the right side and then like a more pastel color like this and select here on the top the gradient go to basics and be sure that you have selected this one so this one it with a color opacity at 100 and goes to color opacity to zero okay so now let's just drag more or less in the same direction that we see this shadow here so until about here and now let's create here a new mask and i want to mask out some areas so again let's select the brush and now with a very large brush it's too big not about here let's mask out some areas do okay and now let's change here the blend mode to soft light well actually the screen is better and opacity make it about 40 percent or maybe 20 just one slightly this effect okay so we're giving a little bit more atmosphere on this side now we're going here to add a new adjustment layer saturation and i'm just going to decrease the saturation to about minus 20 minus 10 better okay and now add a new layer and let's go to image apply image press ok and now we are going to do some changes to the sky if you have a newest version of photoshop you'll find here on edit the new sky replacement and this quickly and quite easily changes the sky as you can see here we have several options that you can select like blue skies and you can notice that it changes the foreground color of the render as well so you can select this one for example and then go here and you can adjust the temperature to be a warmer sky the brightness be a little bit brighter than the scale so you can adjust it here as well and all the lighting here but actually i'm going to select one that was cloudy this one because the sun is from this side and so it could be on this area a little bit cloudy as well so this looks nice i'm just going to decrease here okay you can flip the sky i like this position you can make even the more dramatic sky by darken it and i'm going to adjust here the lighting so you can click here preview to see the changes then press ok and so you can see that it even creates this mask if you press ctrl click the mask you will select it and you can still do some further adjustments i'll press ctrl d to deselect the mask okay we have here this now now let's select again create here a new layer and i'm going to apply the image now let's go to filter noise add noise so i'm going to introduce a little bit of this lens imperfections that you typically find in real world cameras and so you can see here that adding a little bit of this noise to about two to three it's fine and with uniform and we can press okay so if you zoom just a little bit you can see now the before and after so i just want to introduce a little bit of this noise from the cameras now we can also go to to add a new layer and let's do the same thing apply image now let's go to filter other and high pass and with this high pass we can add a radius of 1 press ok and now change the blend mode to overlay and this will create more sharpness in our image so you can see before and after i think the effect is too strong so we can go here to the opacity and make it about 40 okay so we had a little bit more detail into our image another thing we can do is go to add and again a new layer let's fill it with the white color so here select white color and press alt backspace now let's go here to filter lens correction and we can go here to custom and create a vignetting on this so here it's like this is easier to see the type of vignetting you are creating and press ok and now just change to multiply so now we have this vignetting here and we can even adjust again the opacity if you think it's too strong and so this concludes the basics for this post-processing of exterior renders in photoshop and i hope you like this video and i'll see you in the next ones you
