hi guys welcome back so now we're going to do another arai versus shy but this time we're going to do with the Retro [Music] version this is arai's version of the Retro uh which is what they call the arai rapid Neo also known as the concept X concept X right yes I think it's they also call it the concept X this is the showy glamster is this is Shy's version of the classic now let's let's just talk about the looks for now but I'm not going to score the looks I'm not going to make any any judgment on the looks because looks as everyone know is very subjective in terms of looks this is the the aray rapid looks more sporty it looks like uh you're a street racer so more of people who like a cafe racer uh maybe a Scrambler buil this one is more of the classic like a retro like a vintage uh maybe a vesa now so this is more of a classic looking bike so with the looks out of the way let's let's get into into the scoring now so uh when we are comparing helmets of course the most important thing a helmet does is does it protect you so arai showy these are the two biggest brands in Japan and maybe also in the whole world they are known for their safety they're known for their design they're no known for their quality so in terms of safety in terms of safety I'll put my head on any of this I I'll I'll give both of them a pretty high score of four out of five now these are the safest helmet for their intended purpose which is Street uh and Street pretty much Street maybe a little bit of touring of course this is not a sports helmet this is not something you want to be using for a race because you know there's there's race helmets that have higher levels of safety ratings so this is not one of them that's why I'm giving them a four out of five okay so next is um the weight of the helmet now I don't know if you can see but but the arai is so much bigger the mentality of arai has always been let's make the helmet as round as possible because for arai they believe the roundness is what's going to contribute to its safety p slide and everything the round shape will create the less nug the problem with a rounder helmet it tends to be also less leak so shape so that is why aai when you compare to the more sleeker looking though roundish P shy glamster there is so much more material that is used and I was making it as light as possible already by using the best qual quality materials but still this AR rapid Neo compared to this showy glamster these are both XL by the way H so I got the same size the AR rapid Neo when I measured it was uh 1.6 something kilo 1.65 it's a heavy helmet it's a heavy helmet the showy glamster on the other hand it's it's a little bit more sleeker if you can see it's it's a smaller shell it's only 1.3 kilos that's over 350 G uh or 1/3 of a kilo difference difference you're talking about for for a 1.3 Kil the helmet the 300 G is 25% of the helmet already so you're adding 25% H 25% more weight to the glamster if you're using the AR rapid Neo so you you have to think about it so of course overall the lighter the helmet it's going to be more comfortable in for long rides helmet like I mentioned this is lighter because of its smaller shell but also the advantage of a smaller shell in my particular use is remember I had issues with with with my top box or my storage compartment for this vesa is none of my helmets none of my full face helmets fit and good news is this showy even on XL size actually fits the top box so that's a big advantage to me so weightwise this is heavy the AR so out of five I'll give it maybe a three a score of three for the show we it's it's very lightweight it's um almost in the level of carbon fiber helmets in terms of its weight if you look at other carbon carbon fiber helmets that is in the in the XL size that's about 1.3 kilos then 1.45 so this is definitely a very very light helmet so I'm going to give it a score of five out of five when it comes to the weight so when it come to the visor both both of them are pin lock ready now whether it comes with the pin lock insert or not you have to check with your uh favorite store no so like so this these both helmets came from uh motoman luckily I know this model since this particular one that I got did come with the pin lock insert but I was told not all of the aray rapid Neo does come with the pin lock inser so you please do double check your your your favorite supplier or favorite store the glamster also this one that came from motoman has already pin lock inserts and I was told that I think his stocks all come with pin lock insert but uh please don't quote me on that so please double check on on uh on the store but uh both of them are pin lock ready so if it does not come with its pin lock you can actually uh put your own pin lock now when it comes to the quality of the lens meaning Clarity both are really good visors I see no no Distortion it's very clear but for I think it's the shape of the AR visor that is causing a little bit of glare and reflection I see a lot of glare can be distracting the show we but not as not as bad no so must I think it's the shape it's not the quality of the lens I'm pretty sure the the quality of the what do you call this the quality of their visors are both equally as good it's just so happen that this one has a I think the shape is less prone to the UN wanted NE glare so but the advantage again towards the the arai is you can order the arai proch shade visor the the one that you can actually flip up to have a visor because both of them doesn't come with any built-in visors AR right definitely there is no single arai helmet with a built-in visor that's that's their based on their philosophy that adding that is going to compromise safety do so they're never going to do that showy this particular model doesn't have it but this particular glamster shade that goes in and uh up and down you builtin so this one you have the option to actually buy the AR Pro shade so shy glamster your option is um to get uh what do they call this tinted visor is your only option so which means if you put on a tinted visor it's only good when you're riding during the daytime either you bring your own visor you bring your clear visor or you have to drive with it up sotion for this particular model they still don't have the photochromatic one the one that I have on my other show we you could ride from day to night without having to worry the photochromatic is the one that's what they call the transition so it goes from dark to light depending on how much sun there is so when it comes to the visor of this two I guess we have to give them a tie which is maybe a four out of five four out of five because some of the things that I don't like about it shade option this on the other hand is really nice when it comes to Clarity less distortion I know less less reflection not Distortion they're both Distortion free uh has less options when it comes to uh Shield options a visor Shield option there is third party but I don't really recommend buying third party Shield not all of them are good quality so Distortion issue okay so both of them I would give them the for the visors I would give them a score of around four out of five on each one so they're both good visors direct sun there's some weird reflection but on the other hand the glamster has has no transition or no shade option that you can ride from day to night the ventilation of of the the helmets if you look at it so if you look at the arai rapid Neo it has a big vent in front which you can actually turn on and off but the top part is very clear I see there's no there's no vents here all you have is this small two chin brow vents but at the back side it actually has if you notice there's two exhaust here and there's also an exhaust here on the neck now in terms of ventilation the aray does an okay job when in in terms of venting hot air but but my problem with it is the chin brow is just not giving enough air for it to vent so it's not really a a great ventilated helmet as compared to other models vents per of course if you're going to add a lot more vents to to to this this design it will ruin the whole retro classic look same here as with the glamster if you notice the glamster it also has chin vents but this one you cannot close but the thing with this chin vents it's not a direct vent there's no hole here when the the air comes into the chin you you can feel the air going to your mouth and a little bit to your face so if you want if this on the other hand is the air actually goes up and then exits through the backport and if you notice also it only has two small vent holes the vents here are not really direct vents it goes up I know for to here slightly here here so top it's not direct it's not direct but the top vent here so the show the showy is venting more on the top head more on the top side which is I think more important as compared to V more on chin lower part of your face but both of them since they're not really completely as well ventilated as the other helmets where you get good ventilation here you get good ventilation here I think we can score them as a tie between the arai and and the show in terms of ventilation um but both are not really good H so let's put it as a a score of three out of five on both of them the vents that is the compromise that you have to do if you have a classic helmet so next is how loud or how noisy or how quiet are these helmets now the the aray if you are going to keep the vents open this helmet is a little bit not too noisy but on the noisier side of of uh the helmet it's not the quietest helmet of course uh the wind noise Meo you can hear it there's a little howl that you hear I think this has to do with of course because of the vents the big vent right in front the air that comes in of course it all quiets down when you shut down the vent but given our weather here even even uh even in December Jan uary in our coldest weather you'd still want to keep that open the Philippine weather is just not designed that we will need to close that vent now so let's just score it based on if the vent is open the most comfortable way of wearing it so it's a little bit noisier the glamster on the other hand is a little bit quieter well I guess that has to do with the vents not being a direct vent meaning the vent goes in it gets channeled inside and then goes out here and then that's the advantage or at least the good way of the vents not being direct is it becomes a little quieter so when it comes to quiet or the noise level I would give the the the score a little bit higher on the glamster so I'll score it a four out of five but when it comes to the noise level of the Neo I'll give it a three out of five pasanga pasang a but in either case uh if I'm I'm I'm now more recently wearing earplugs I just find it it's more comfortable no matter what helmet I'm using and I can still hear uh ambient noise I can still hear cars coming I can still hear my car D over it so I'm I'm wearing now uh some earplugs regularly as much as I as possible so let's now move to comfort how the helmet fits me so this is has to do more of the inner lining so like I like like my previous reviews of AR I like the design of uh AR's inner foam it has that what they called the facial Contour T the facial Contour system where if it's too if it's too loose you can actually adjust it they have adjustment for the top top uh foam you can bring it down a little bit but you can tight in it if it's too tight you can actually peel away the foam so which means when you buy a helmet my suggestion is buy the one that it fits really snug really snug so that after it breaks in you can just peel away the foam and you get the perfect sizing for your AR if you buy something that fits already Perfect by the time it breaks and it might be too loose especially on the cheeks there's nothing you can do but to add actually and replace the foam with a bigger one so mind always be mindful when you're buying your AR it's nice that you can actually just peel off foam so if you buy something that is a little on the tight side especially like for me who my head seems to be sized very different from here to here feeling top if you're going to measure it I'm an XL but in the cheek part I am a double XL so this one is works perfectly for me the glamster on the other hand you this is the XL soip but after this broke in after a few weeks of use it's starting to break in and it's no longer painful per it's still tight if you're going to compare them it still feels a little tight inek so concern I have the option to buy uh the double XL pads that's an option I can do and which means it's going to be now giving me more more room in the cheeks perfect same thing as what I did to my other showy helmets I have my other showy helmet the top liner is for an XL but the cheekpads are for double XL so I think that's the best way but for that to happen it's going to cost me extra again so if I have to but I think I I I'm okay with the XL but the difference also with this model this showy compared to the other showy since this is a classic one since the shell is smaller they also are using a smaller foam liner compare helmet which is XL XL foam liner very plush this one on the other hand liner well of course they cannot put a thick one because of the shape the size of the shell as compared to the aray which has a bigger shell they can actually pull put a full size na cushion so in terms of comfort I have to give it to the aray the aray you can you can shape it to exactly how you want it on your face so I'm going to give this a four out of five but when it comes to the shy glamster because of the thin the thin materials that they have to use to fit the classic and that the fact that if I want the perfect fit for my shape I have to actually buy a replacement now cheekpads but if you're going to go uh in some showy stores I know in Japan you can actually have them fit you and they'll replace that before you leave the store no extra pay you have to go to Japan okay exra chead definitely Comfort if you're after overall comfort you want a better foam go with this AR model which isct to my other r00 so now overall when it comes to Value uh these are I think in the height 20s rate helmets the the glamster the solid at least the solid col so high 20,000 high 20s you price range I think they are really good value uh you get you get the build quality of a Japanese brand you get the safety uh remember the most recent models of the glamster and the aray rapid Neo are both uh ECE 2206 rated already so these are these are the highest rating uh for Street use the helmet no they don't they're not rated for snil because they're not for racing but in terms of Street use those that's one of the best ratings to look at is the ECE 2206 and the most recent models if you're buying one right now both models are ECE 2206 already so you're getting the best of that you're getting really for me in my opinion the two of the most nicest retro helmets so but in the end we have to we have to award who is the winner so I guess in terms of my scoring the aray got 25 out of 35 while the showy glamster got 27 out of 35 so it's very close the the battle was very close but we have to award the winner and and in this case the Battle of the Retro helmets the shy glamster wins so if you guys are interested in getting any of these helmets I know there's a few stores that carry them um Moto world I know carry showy glamster but my problem with mot World St and if you're after the nonsolid design M Graphics lucky C lucky cut lucky cut uh you can get both of these helmets also from our favorite store Moto man so check them out so I think link but uh I'll put it also in the description okay guys so thank you very much uh if you haven't liked and subscribed please do so uh I'll be coming up with more reviews of motorcycle gear [Music] bye
