hello welcome to the April 9th 2024 Club qbase livest stream my name is Greg Uno and I'm the host of the live stream today if you have not attended a live stream before how it works is you can ask questions in the live chat field or simply send questions in advance to Club cuase Steinberg dode when asking questions r that my ability to perhaps answer questions in a realtime manner May soon be eclipsed so if you don't see an immediate response to your question if we could avoid asking the same question over and over again repeatedly that would be appreciated just takes longer to get through uh the questions and we could answer more questions without that um we should have an index of all topics that are discussed in today's live stream pinned to the top of the comments field several hours after the live stream ends so once the live stream ends I'll take a dinner break and come back and re-watch the live stream and type up all the questions with timestamp so you could easily navigate if you wanted to search for topics been covered in previous live streams there's over 32,000 questions that have been answered you could go to qbas index.com and we want to thank Yan from stockhome for creating that website there's also a PDF file with all the questions that I'm happy to share with people and I believe that's also on a qbas Nation Discord if you uh we also want to give special thanks to two people that serve as moderators on the live stream so we have Agent K and Jaz dude so they're not Steinberg employees they just kind of do it to make it a better Community experience so we appreciate their efforts and we give a special kudos to Jazz dude for running the unofficial Cubase Nation Discord which is a great resource for the Steinberg Community as well so um once again my name is Greg undo I work with Yamaha Corporation of America I primarily focus on Steinberg products and uh and I'm presenting from today in the United States from outside of Al outside of Washington DC area in Alexandria Virginia and if you're watching this live please feel free to introduce yourself and tell us where you're from all right so with that let's go ahead and get started and I think we had um a question that was asked before the live chat let's see if it's I think I captured it uh it says hey Greg uh in the expression Maps window there's an option at the bottom left for program change messages well I'm familiar with mapping Expressions to select key switches I'd like to be able to uh for instance create a midi event where midi channel one is a flute channel two is a lead channel three is strings Channel 4 is a trumpet using map Expressions to switch between channels instead so generally the midi expression map so it's good take a look uh when we go to look at an expression map and we can do this by going to your midi menu to expression map setup and you know generally what we're doing with the expression Maps is just to change between different articulations so generally these instruments will be on the same MIDI channel so we have our choice we could have between you know different key switches so if we wanted to uh perhaps you know create a map here we could see key switches or program changes to switch between those particular different areas now usually the expression Maps won't necessarily work across different midi channels so if you want it to have an event here so let's look at this event and we'll have this on let's say a howan Sonic instance and we'll have it for like a flute [Music] sound so if I wanted this one it repeats to go to a different sound so on my particular instrument here I'm going going to load up just within uh my hoan Sonic here I have a flute on channel one and channel two I have trumpet and let's say cello on channel three so if we wanted to just change within the editor there's a really easy way to do this is you know we can see that midi channels midi tracks themselves will often be fixed to a particular Channel but we can see channels one through 16 but if we wanted to have multiple channels on a single track what we could do is click on any so I will now go into my editor I'll say okay let's take these notes here and I want them to play on channel 2 I want the third repetition of that melodic figure on Channel 3 so it'll start on our [Music] flute and then when it comes right here these notes will go to MIDI Channel 2 which in h and Sonic is going to be the trumpet so if I did it [Music] correctly and then we could switch this to channel 3 which would be the cello so this way we don't have to use expression Maps we could just kind of select the events that we want on particular channels and from the info line we could change the channels on those and at this point select different phrase where you want these play on different instruments so instead of Express maps to do it you could just edit it that way just put these on midi Channel any and you could have it all going to the same the same midi port and then you could switch between your different instruments like that so let me know if that's helpful for you it beliefs from Cristiano R all right let's go back to the Live question list all right so we have uh d76 W uh hey hi Greg is there a way to change a marker cycle name without having without having to open the marker window qbas 13 Pro Windows 10 all right so if we have a marker window here so one of the great things you can do is as you drop markers if you hold down the shift key you can now just type in the name of the marker so press the shift key and when you drop the marker in you could name it if you didn't do that and you have other markers what you can do is select a marker and you'll see from the information line that you could just type in in the description field and that will that description will now be the marker label without having to open up the particular markers so again but in the future if you just hold down this is new in13 if you just hold when we go to the marker track hold down shift and I think if you hold down control shift you could add a cycle marker and name it like that as well so let me know if that's helpful wonderful to see Michael Marshall checking in from Somerset in UK always great to have Jazz dude on and Yan from qbas index we have Zohar kav saying Hey to everyone thanks for joining us today Michael grey bill saying hi from Dallas thanks for being online today all right Eric Samson asks hi Greg uh Eric's from Paris is the history in the small console window under the project view alt F3 the same as the history in the big console so yeah so if I want to come let's go to my mix console here and I adjust let's say I move my faders and I hit instead of control Z I hit alt or option Z we could undo and ALT or option plus shift plus Z we could redo now if I go to my large console and I hit my ALT Z we could redo alt shift alter option plus shift Z we can redo but they will both show up and if we wanted to see the edit history we could see it here and we could just these particular mix console undos we could visualize here they're not labeled in the lower Zone but if you have kind of the expanded controls as we redo and undo the same exact function whether it's in the lower zone mix console or in the upper zone mix console okay so we see Matt ston joining us all right and Eric Samson asks what is the editor tab in the inspector panel on the left okay so let me just see all right let me select it like a midi track here me see if I'm missing the editor so I'm not sure which is the editor tab let me just reread it the editor tab on the inspector on the left let me just check all these get to setup sections yeah so let me know if it's an inspector so I'm not sure if it's this editor tab that you're referring to or you can see kind of the edit channel settings but maybe if you could specify Eric um which editor tab in the inspector see if I'm me see if it's I don't think it's going to be under visibility if it's in the channel inspector or the Track Inspector but I don't see an editor tab but let me know if I'm misunderstanding wonderful see uno momento from Finland which it's 15 degrees Centigrade always great to see Dallas laroo loyal attendee from Las Vegas and we have sworen from Sweden as well as Benny all right Eric asks I see many producers saying they prefer directly their mix bus to an audio print track instead of exporting the mix down is there a difference so no um there isn't a difference it used to be traditionally some other programs would would not uh do a quicker than realtime export so there could be a myth that because of some programs in ability to export a file faster than real time that it was problematic because this program didn't do it that program eventually did do it at the request of many people so there's not going to be a difference whether you do an offline print track or just do an offline bounce so I think it's uh goes back to a legacy of an inability of certain programs to do a quicker than real time bounce we see Yan thanking Jazz dude for the Fantastic super qbase forum and The Unofficial qbase Nation Discord so I'll second that okay so we see Michael grey bill says want to say thanks Steinberg for the last qbase update to fix the problem that showed up in 13 not being able to copy paste single data points on CC Lanes so so happy so it's great all right Achilles uh asks hello qbas 13 Pro user why when I change a sound card when I'm on a project I need to remap my inputs in audio connections for using them is there way to load uh at once all my settings in the sound card set you know it's if especially if you're switching sound cards it has different numbers of inputs and outputs you know I think it's best that qbase doesn't automatically assume and remap outputs or inputs incorrectly so but what you can do is when you switch if you go to your audio connections and you switch sound cards just simply save a preset so once you're here um you know all you have to do is save an input output Pres set and then recall those when you know so you could have this is my mobile audio interface inputs this is my mobile audio interface outputs this is my studio inputs my studio outputs and then all those connections will be defined for you and you could switch so try saving input and output presets but that you know it could be you know very complicated if you have like a lot of different routing and those I those input output options aren't available to access all right Angelina Gargano asks uh hi I'm using 13.03 when I close my mixer and reopen the routing send pre and inserts all collapse I check the expand exclusivity as stated all work but this so mine seems to be working so I will come over so say if I you know go to this project here and we go to the mix console and we expand the the sessions the sections exclusive exclusively this works if I have that unchecked and I have those both turned on and let's say I save the project and I'll close this project and let's reopen it all right let's get to my mix console we can see that those are those settings are preserved for me but let me know Angelina if I'm doing something different ly than you okay so we see from Zohar uh it says can Channel changes be used with Native Instruments contact 7 so I assume that it's like the channel changes perhaps that we showed here um so as long as they're going to to the same midi Port so yes that will work for any midi data so if it's where we want these particular channels you know these notes to go to channel one these go to channel two these go to channel three then there's no problem but they would have to be on the same midi Port so maybe within the same instance of contact and if you have multiple ports like I think you may have four ports for 64 midi channels then they would have to be on the same port but if I miss understanding Z hard let me know great to see Danielle tokon toan on from bacham Germany all right we have suede TV and recording studio just saying hi to everyone all right swayed TV and recording studio asks can you please explain a vocal instrumental alignment let's say I have four background vocals and I want to make them tighter also can I tighten a vocal and or instrument at the same time yes I have kind of a little file for this we'll show okay so one of the great things that we have in cuase is kind of built-in audio alignment so let's say if we have background vocals like we see here and we can see that visually these vocals are going to be off rhythmically so we listen to [Music] it all right so let's say I want to take this file here and we have an audio alignment this is in qbase Pro um so you could generally access it right from up here but there's also just from the audio menu um we could open up the alignment panel so I'm going to select this as my reference so this is what I want the other tracks to map to so I'm going to select these and I can select multiple tracks which is better than and some other systems we have do them one by one going select those multiple tracks and we could choose to match Words which is good for vocals um so I just have both checked and we'll just say align audio and now as we listen to it and you can see visually that it's tightened [Music] up that at that point it will just tighten those right up just like that so again select kind of like your first file click on the reference plus button select the other files that you want choose that as targets and then just simply align the files always wonderful to see Robbie bowling from Dallas Texas we have the artist known as love just saying hello everyone thank you for everything Greg you're welcome all right so we have um I guess motive or motive uh from Texas as I'm using the trial version qbas Pro 13 welcome and feel free to ask any questions that you have be happy to get you up and running on your trial version for you thanks for coming to the live stream and come back anytime and ask whatever questions you have I think we see some questions here William E Barry says uh live the content or live the cont maybe love the content uh can you refer me to an indepth instructional troubleshooting midi connections and settings for external instruments such as a synth okay so to do this what we would want to do is first we could go to our midi device manager so if you wanted to actually um work with an instrument so let's come over here to our studio menu and we'll go to more options and let's go to our midi device manager so I think I have this kind of set up so let's say I have installed a device in this case I did a COR 05rw which I just have in my rack um at this point we could open the device if we want to see like our patch Banks we can see all of our different patch Banks here so you can make these lists if you need to now what we want to do is so we've defined kind of our external device here let's add a go to our studio connections to our Audio Connections we will come over here to external instruments and I think I have this I'm going to remove this so let's add an external instrument we're going to call it our corg [Music] 05 r w I know there's a slash in there somewhere okay so now now that we have this we want to tell it kind of what connections that it's in and let me just I'll just do that one more time so again we're going to add our external instrument and we see this associate midi device so here we're going to uh you know at this point we can say let's just we could create the device and we could give it a name if we wanted to here as well what midi channels that we're using okay so we'll hit okay so we see we just kind of labeled this differently now once we are here we could give this particular one a name so and once we go to our external instrument tell where it's connected to in your system like the audio inputs so we Define the audio the midi output there and we go to add a midi track we could just say okay our midi outputs and we see our corg 05rw add the track and we can say okay it's going to be connected here I forgot to do that in the setup and then you're all set so once we have this set up we could just say okay we're going to take this um and we can see our program change that we could have set up so that's how you could get that going okay so have a question uh maybe from modiv or motive uh hi GRE is there a way to have a menu pop up when you right click on an audio event the menu would display different actions options you could do with the event I'm coming from Studio One so if you hold down I think it's just control this will give you kind of a Contex sensitive option so we could say Okay I want to bring this to front I want to quantize I want to do run processes plugins and you could also have this like when you rightclick uh you get the default tools but holding down control and there's a preference so if you want to come over here I think it's under preference tools that we say show toolbox on rightclick so once I do this I could see uh you know my tools available here plus my context sensitive menu options right there so try if you know control or command and you could toggle the default Behavior once you have this preference set up but you can do a lot of context sensitive functions right there so let me know if that's what you're looking for and thanks for checking out qbas from Studio 1 seems like there's lots of people doing that all right so we have an an Prof an an Prof says malen exoo I'm sure I pronounced that incorrectly and it just says meaning hello to y'all thanks for the kind sentiment all right John costan from kosha Wisconsin just saying hello to the whole Cubase gang all right so we see from Daniela why is the Discord just for privilege users I never did right there but it seems I am blocked and should not be I have to use a different fake account to get access so know the Discord is not an official Steinberg thing so you know so so it's not actually run by Steinberg so all right so we have Eric stro just saying hello fellow qbase users all right so we see from Angelina Gargano says yes I saved my project reopened it but mixer doesn't open the way I leave it I tend to open and close the mixer a lot but this and this isn't an issue I've install 13021 and my mixer works fine so but let me know if I did anything differently than you Angelina um but I could report it regardless and if you let me know if you're running on Mac or PC I could check on my PC which I don't have on on now so all right Zohar asks on qbas 12 when I load a plugin in an insert it no longer opens automatically is there a setting that I can change so that it opens automatically yes you answered my previous question thanks all right so there is a preference so let's say we go to add an insert effect you know generally the behavior is is that when you go to add and insert that the plug-in pops up immediately so I think it's a preference so let's try going to your preferences and maybe under VST plugins uh there's a preference here for open effect after loading it so let me see if I uncheck that and we open up a plugin now it's not opening when I go and activate that preference I go to to your preferences menu under VST to plugins and check to make sure that this is turned on open effect editor after loading it so now that that is turned on we go to open a plugin and it's then the user interface opens so let me know if that is helpful for you okay Michael teen from Weatherford Texas is always joy to have on wants everyone to whack the like button he might hold back virtual ice cream distribution so me see unoo asking if Michael teams had a good view of the eclipse yesterday that was in North America I'm sure it was in other parts of the world too all right and Michael teams di get to see the eclipse all right so we have Stefon checking in from Sweden thanks for joining us again we see William Barry just says thank you very much you're welcome all right so we have question Greg am looking for an oxygen 61 midi remote script if you come across across it or someone has it so you know generally if you go into the Steinberg forums there is kind of a an area where users have uploaded many different mid remote scripts so there's probably one in there it's a pretty common and popular controller so you can probably look in there and sometimes Jazz dude might be kind enough to post a link to where the uh where the kind of the compendium like the little area for downloading uh different controller scripts all right so we have Tron from Norway joining us thanks for joining this after this evening for you all right and we have perty kenin our second attendee from Finland thanks for being on it's great to see you on all right we have Michael Fox sending greetings from swans UK thanks for joining being on today I think I called it Swan Once I looked it up up it was off the SE so I'm like oh I'm an idiot anyway hope I pronounced it more correctly uh so we have question from uh motive or motive uh hey Greg I noticed there's a slight delay when pressing start and stop my computer's pretty beefy and the CPU usage meter is really low is this default so it could really depend upon your actual like what plugins you have loaded up so let's say if you know when I hit play it's pretty responsive now but if the program has to let's just put on um a couple plugins like the vocal chain this could have about 200 milliseconds of latency on it so when we have plugins that have a lot of latency so we're now about 78 milliseconds of latency on this particular track that when I hit play there's going to be so it's not CPU related it's because when Cubase is doing delay offsets when it's off when it's you know doing all the calculations so that you have delay compensation all your effects if you have a lot of plugins such as we have here so this is 78 milliseconds because of these plugins just being loaded so you know what qbase does is it plays a little bit ahead so that when it plays all these tracks with all their plugins can play perfectly in time but it can't it can't it doesn't know in advance when you're going to hit play so what it does is depending on how many plugins you have loaded and their cumulative latency that would be the delay of your transport so now when I hit my space bar to playay and if I take these two of these plugins out when it it's at that space and I'll get my microphone closer to the keyboard here is much more responsive so one thing that you can do is if you have a lot of plugins with delay you know just rise that you could turn on a constrain delay compensation and that could bypass plugins that are causing delay but it's not necessarily A CPU thing it's just when that's how qas is calculating the delay compensation so that all the tracks with all their plugins are playing perfectly in time so let me know if that makes sense right so we see from uh Angelina Gargano says yes I run a PC I did what you stated issues in 1303 with the mixer yes please report um in kbase form others are having the same issues with the mixer thanks so much for your time so I'll I'll check it on my PC but I'll report it uh regardless that you're running into it so all right Zohar just says just change it along with you plugins are now opening awesome so it's good spoo says glad to be a part of this thanks we're glad to have you without attendees you know the live streams are not as interesting all right all right we see per kenin giving uh specialty coffee to Michael teams who's always so good at giving specialty ice cream so PA te's granted Michael teams one cup of Texas Blues special coffee AKA Johnny Winter so and Michael teams has responded with one gallon of Cordial Cherry ice cream for all right so we see spoo says please say hi to Ray with spu okay all right so Michael Fox Says question why does Steinberg take one month to reply to a support ticket I see a lot of people complaining about the support response time is this acceptable for the price that people pay for this well you could if you have a particular question just you know please feel free to ask it here we'll be happy to uh you know see if we could get your answer for you so that you know depending where you live there are different support systems in different country parts of being a Steinberg distributor in different countries is that you support your local market you know so it's a pretty typical thing with uh different distribution agreements so the support department in Australia is different than the support department in Canada or us or in Europe or in Japan or China Kore Etc so but you know any questions that you have we will try to get you sorted out here and if you have a particular uh support request that you sent if you want to send it to me uh via email to Club cuase Steinberg dode I'd be happy to pass it on to see if we get an expedited uh response like I just got an email uh I think it was over the weekend at someone you know got their you know they had like their account was they they locked themselves out of the account and they were able to get a response within 20 minutes and get it all sorted out and they kind of wrote me a letter just saying that you know every time they've had issues with support it's always been super responsive but it could be different depending on what country you're in so but yeah please ask your question here and we'll see if we could get it answered for you all right sway TV and recording studio asks uh in media Bay I see many of my virtual libraries but I do not see Heavy oity instruments thanks so one is to make sure that where you know so I'm not sure if it's the instrument presets or if it's going to be like the instrument sounds so right that when we go to your media Bay so we'll open up our media Bay here so when we go to Media Bay it could search for VST presets and real that not every plug-in company comes with VST presets as their as their preset format so by default anything that has VST presets um Can automatically you know can't automatically be shown so but realiz that a lot of third party companies may have their own preset system also if it is dealing with you know if it's like Loops or different content if that content is accessible as individual file files you should be able to go into your computer and find your computer setup and wherever those files are make sure that media Bay is checked to scan in those particular folders um sometimes like some content the individual samples you know that make up the instrument may not be accessible to other programs it may be kind of tied directly to the instrument uh and it's you know the intellectual property of the particular instrument so I don't have any heavyocity plugins I don't believe on my personal machine so but you know check to see if there's you know if you open up a plugin for instance we'll come over let's say we go to our amp simulator if you click up here you can see all the different presets but different companies may have a different hierarchy or system for presets and I understand why because they work with other Daws as well so they may want to have their own particular system but if it's not a VST preset or not a standard wave file then media Bay probably won't pick it up automatically some people will take each preset of a plug-in or an instrument and save it as a VST preset so that it is accessible so if you're in a situation like that you can just simply load up the preset come up to the top and there isn't like a batch process to do this you could then choose save preset and that would save it as a VST preset so if you can let me know if it's the presets or specific content um I could probably guide you along a little more accurately with that all right all right so motive says yes it's motive for pronunciation so okay all right so saurin ask Greg is it smarter to use the fader to control the Reverb send with the actual send value maxed out on a Channel or not I hope you understand my question all right so let's say if we have this uh guitar all right so now all right so let's say we want to add an effect channel to this particular track so let's add like a revelation Reverb all right so now that we've added that Revelation we'll come over here to let's say our sends and we want more of that Reverb and I will just make it a larger we'll come here make it a more obvious Reverb okay so let's say I'll just put this in okay so we have this guitar going into the Reverb via the sand right here and I'll just open this up make it more obvious um okay so is it smarter to use the fader to control the Reverb send with the actual send value maxed on the channel or not hope you understand my question so what I would do is I would generally if I understand I would generally kind of leave the Reverb at Unity um because I may want to use it for different channels so I would say it's not I may if it was just on one particular channel I may take the Reverb send here and play with it but if I wanted to be able to use that same Reverb on a guitar and voice and piano at that point I would probably choose to just do my Reverb amount right [Music] here so as we kind of blend more of the Reverb in and that way on a piano I made may want less and a vocal I may want more the guitar I may want in the middle and that way I so that's how I would probably set the gain or the amount of the Reverb and adjust it if I was using multiple tracks I would do it via the send and that way you're not kind of predisposing more Reverb on the vocal inadvertently or changing if you're listening to the guitar and you're dialing in the Reverb it's not going to change the balance of the effect on the vocal or piano part so but let me know if that makes sense or if find misunderstanding all right see per kenin was grateful for the Cherry ice cream from The Cordial Cherry ice cream from Michael teams all right so we see from and Elina gorano says love C Club cuase I receive so much help and totally appreciate all the time and help you give everyone have a wonderful day so thank you for the kind words I appreciate it all right DJ ride says uh when I use my groove agent when I'm flicking through different kit sometimes it says do I want to overwrite the global settings what uh why does it do this all right so let's see if we could get it to do the same for us so it could be like if there are different like routing options available so let's come over here I'll load a kit with patterns let's do like laser beams all right so say if I want to now so right now I just have that particular pattern playing and I will go through my different kits here well let's see if I maybe had done some routing on a particular inst strument here so say I send this to different outputs if we could trigger the message we go back all right and I'll just send a all midi notes off so I'm not sure if you have any routings that are set up or you know or different midy remote so let's say if I'm here and I have it set up for like a Yamaha electronic drum kit let's see if that will but let me know if there's any special things that you're doing that maybe causes that message to pop up and i' be happy to see if I could recreate it here all right so we see sain says uh Greg my email the project that at howan Sonic failing it cannot be recreated it's failing at random restart it with computer or new HS instance take away the failure now you know so the one thing that I found about the project and sort we talked about a project where a particular uh track wasn't playing the one thing that I noticed with this I think so I have it up here and you said it was the extracted Vox wasn't playing so let's say if we so like when I come to this particular track you said that this is the one that's not playing I think that I noticed [Music] um I think it was that track you said that wasn't playing but I noticed that when we go to like the midi volume was all the way down so if I come here and I just turn the volume [Music] up so you know so maybe s and check to see if it was maybe the you know CU this volume was all the way down so that could present prevent that track from sounding so you know check that just in the very top if you go to kind of the default instrument tab that that was down so and it could be a controller that maybe sent that message and it was and if it there wasn't a midi volume message that that's why it wasn't being heard so that's something to check in the future s all right so we see Anders mccormac just asking if anyone used is uh any saxophone vsts in cuas so when I do sax stuff I generally just kind of use the built-in stuff that's in hian or hian sonic but if anyone else has experience with other saxophone libraries uh maybe they could share their experience wonderful to see Nick from aex in the United Kingdom thanks for joining us okay okay Angelina Gargano asks what is the best way to record vocal with effects and not get latency also would love to have the final recording not embed effects into the track so if I need to change something later I can thanks all right so it could really depend you know because when you are doing a recording so let me just I don't have a microphone connected we'll just do a new project but I think we could show it okay so let's say we'll have an instrument track here I'll just load up quick kit just find something that's less obnoxious all right so let's say if we want to record so a lot of times what people do there's a couple different approaches so if you want to hear the effects while it's going on you can come over and first thing you want to do is go to your studio setup and select under your studio menu select your audio interface and you want to make sure that direct monitoring isn't turned on so and this could depend on your audio interface as well so you want to make sure that direct monitoring isn't turned on um if you have a UR interface like a Steinberg Ur or axr interface you could have direct monitoring and they have built-in DS SP so if you have like a ur22c and higher or an axr interface you could have direct monitoring and once we have that input you can you know set it up for the DSP to automatically have the effects I'm going to go to my audio connections here let's set my input we'll say mono input and I'm going to connect it to this all right so I go to add a mono [Music] track We'll add an audio track here mono all right and we can see that we have our Ur 24c panel and from this point we could choose to have an effect so this is kind of unique and this is because you know it's Steinberg interface that we can come over and once we have our effect here we could just say okay we have a built-in Reverb on the effect effect so we could hear the effect with no latency we could also choose to have like a morphing Channel strip so if we wanted to apply compression and EQ to the recording we could choose to do that on the input bus or we could choose to monitor through that so if you but if you don't have a UR interface you're not going to have this integration with the DSP so sometimes if we put an effect on the input channel so if we put an EQ on our input bus this will embed that EQ into the recording and we can't take it out so if you want to have the effect but not monitor the particular effect if you want so if you want to hear the effect without it being printed or written into the file again we need to go and make sure that direct monitoring is disabled otherwise the signal goes from the input to the output and now what we do is when we go to our channel that we're recording on we could just make sure that we have our particular effect loaded here so let's say we want it to have a compressor that when we go to our compressor let's say our Vox comp that as we do this we can hear the result of the Channel going through the Vox comp but it's not being applied to the channel so and we could actually see that as we add different plugins and we see this on our Channel inspector here that right here we can see what the overall latency is of the particular path so right now when we add that plugin it's 2 milliseconds latency let's see what happens when we switch out that plugin with black valve so each plugin and a tax we could think of it as like a plug-in tax is that when we use that plugin that plug-in could cause latency so right now with the black valve this plugin um on this track has no latency so we could use this without any timing delays so we could hear this now let's go ahead and say we want to have a Reverb like a courtesy Reverb let's say if we go to and sometimes a simpler Reverb so let's say if we go to room works that now we could load up a room Works preset and there's no latency with room works if we load up a plugin such as um reverence a convolution Reverb that's going to add 11.6 milliseconds of latency so this way we could pick and choose different plugins that have lower latency and if you want to get an idea you could go to the VST plug-in manager here and as we look at your VST effects uh and we select you could actually see what the latency is of different plugins here so you can get a sense of like okay there's no latency on um the course but if we go to bitc Crusher there's no latency autopan no latency amp simulator none so you can just see what the latency factor is in different plugins as you work right here and then you could pick and choose the plugin that have less latency for tracking purposes you may want to have again a courtesy Reverb for tracking but maybe it's not the final Reverb for mixing but you want to give a little bit of Reverb as you're singing or recording vocals so that you have access to that so use low low latency plugins if you don't want it embedded do not put it into the input channels put it on the track and unless you have a UR or axr interface which has the advanced integration you want to make sure that your audio interface when you select it is not set to direct monitoring if you have a UR then you could use the DSP that's built into the UR to have all the effects which kind of is the whole intention of the UR interface to have those effects so let me know if that's helpful Angelina wonderful see Val checking in from Vienna Austria thanks for joining us and he's already gotten one gallon at Texas special ice cream for Michael teams all right so we see from uh suede TV and uh recording studio says it's the instrument Library not showing up unless I load complete control get Spitfire and East West show up so some of the plugins are smart enough to include the VST presets as part of the installation some companies may want you to go into a different ecosystem so that's just the design intention of the probably the Native Instruments platform or ecosystem all right motive asked does qbase have a built-in Dolby Atmos renderer or do I have to get that separate so it is included so we'll show you how to kind of set up a project for Atmos let me see if I have the project yeah see if I'll just open it up quickly show you how okay so let's say first thing you want to do is make sure your Project's at 48k and that it is a buffer size uh so we go to your project setup make sure that you can hit shift plus s or go to your project menu to project setup make sure it's at 48k go to your studio menu to Studio setup and make sure that your buffer size for your audio interface when we go to the control panel the DAT is set to 512 samples so to access this let's say we have our project and do first met so if we want to access the internal render we would go to the program or project menu and we'll see ADM authoring at this point we could choose okay we want to be for Dolby Atmos and we have a setup assistant because kind of doing the routing could be a bit nightmarish and seem counterintuitive so we say okay let's go ahead and we're going to add our main mixed Channel configuration is 714 and then we want to add a bed to and Route all the tracks to that bed so now that we've done that this is creating kind of all the routing if you have headphones on you can now we could choose what your monitoring path is here so we can say okay let's go to binaural so if have headphones on as I take a particular track let's open up let's say our guitar part and solo it okay I'll take the guitar not the vocal so I'm going to open up the Panner and we could see this little kind of kickout window here and now we can see kind of our top view and you may hear this kind of start to spin around behind you if you have headphones on and this is doing kind of binaural rendering we could adjust our [Music] height and we could just kind of automate all these particular [Music] changes [Music] and then once you have let's say all of your mixing done all you'd have to do so this is your Doby Atmos render it's like kind of done all the routing for you is when you go to the ADM authoring right now just come over here and Export the ADM file and that's all you have to do so let's include it with cuase and nendo so all right so we see saurin just says thanks Greg about the Reverb send questions you're welcome hope that was helpful question from eh Hall does QB use all the performance and efficiency cores on the M1 chips I know that there are a couple of Daws that do this this uh son was hoping that cuase was one of them so yes Cubase does uh so qbase was the first program to really kind of uh took advantage of all those I think a couple have now been added after some YouTube videos have started calling out companies ironically I don't think that Apple's own Daw does maybe they changed it but there's a lot of people pretty shocked with that all right uh we have question from parabot 2 who asks uh hi Greg QB 13 Pro when I drag chords from cord pads and play onto a track them back they don't sustain as per the midi the first note sounds for a short SEC all right so let me go and try this um okay so let's go ahead and give it a try so let's say I have a don't have the piano on this one all right just open up a different project okay so let's say I have um roads patch here okay let's open up our cord pads all right so I'm going to drag them here so it looks like it may default to one measure but let's say if I drag this on top let me adjust my snap to beat so let's see what it sounds [Music] like I'll take it off Loop [Music] sorry so it seems like it's kind of playing full measures for me um let's see if I if I extend that out doesn't extend the notes but doesn't seem to be cutting off short so so says when I drag cord chords from the cord pads and play onto a track them back they don't sustain as perit um the sounds are short so you know it could also be you know so see what happens if you you know let me know parabot if you open it up and it's sounding and it's like visually lasting for the measure you know it could be maybe a patch that doesn't sustain as well something that just is set up as an attack that you're playing it back through so let me know if that's the case or if it's like a piano or something that has sustain on the actual sound okay all right so we see Thomas just says hello I just purchased a 4 terabyte external s ssds due to USB hub issues I'm planning to move all my libraries without any exceptions uh to this single Drive anything I should worry about so no and if you don't know the easy way to do this to like moving all of your content at least the Steinberg content is there's a utility called um the Steinberg Library manager and so let's say okay I have all of my uh Hing content or all my you know different my qbase content if we just kind of let's say if we just select these different we could just put a check mark and then we could just choose A New Path so if when you go to now if we click on move It'll ask us and then you want to select your new uh your new 4 terabyte ssds um and then and just choose it right there and all the Steinberg content will be kind of linked so that's the easy way to do it so it's really easy for Steinberg content most companies have a similar utility for their content for sample based instruments or instruments that have a lot of content so but it should be pretty straightforward for you right my cha field just jumped all right so I think I'm close to where I was all right so we see Michael Fox is saying it calling Germany support from England you know cost money so yeah I mean please feel free to ask your question here let see if we could answer it for you all right so we see from Tim K says I'm grateful to be here once again most of what's discussed here is beyond my level I've learned how to import audio for my zoom H5 and how to record guitar in I'll keep turning and learning so ask whatever question you have you know at the simplest you know the worst question you could have is you know having a question and not ask and just not asking it so any level of questions is fine but you know we're always grateful to have questions that are Advanced or very simple right that everyone that is is an advanced user was sitting in the same exact place you were I was there too you know so everyone has been at the same level and just through experience and working through different things and hopefully uh forums like this can help you you know if you have just a little conceptual problem hopefully we can help get you along the way so all right so we see from saurin says SG go keep an eye on the midi volume level if it happens again yeah check that out it's something that sometimes people will have a midi controller and they may move the fader down and they think they're controlling something else and they accident ly throw the midi volume down and that could make that particular part not sound Zohar says Greg you just helped me complete a song that celebrates three decades of freedom for South Africa thank you so much I couldn't get vocals to sync thanks to who asked a question I love the help so congratulations on working on such a significant piece of music so and please feel free to share when you're all done with uh please feel free to share a link so I could listen to it I'd love to hear it and you could send that to Club cuase at Steinberg de looking forward to hear it all right always great to see Rob from Tarpon Springs Florida really good Greek food there all right Lis CH says hello Greg I use an Apollo interface via Thunderbolt is it possible to add more input channels via Dante would both work at the same time or will be a conflict thanks um so that the Dante is a great way of being able to expand different uh you know to expand different IO options and I want to take converters from this company I want to take a you know a piece of Hardware from this company and mix and match because Dante handles all the clocking I don't think that the Apollo interface will work with a Dante based system so it's a limitation of the Apollo interface I don't think they have a Dante based solution I think it is strictly Thunderbolt so your Apollo interface won't really talk with a Dante Network so but Dante networks you could have like you know four or five different mixers different IO options and through Ethernet connect those to your computer and mix and match different components and Dante itself handles all the clocking so it can be a more expensive solution but if you wanted a lot of flexibility for different IO configurations and different flavors of converters and mic preamps Dante is a wonderful solution for that but your Apollo interface I don't think will integrate with Dante at all all right so Maestro musician says hi to everyone all right so we see Angelina Gargano just gives me an okay sign and says perfect thanks all right motive asks is there a way to select an audio event when using the range selection tool for example I want to highlight multiple tracks with the range tool and adjust volume trim Etc but the range tool doesn't select so one of the things that was incorporated so we could think of the range is kind of working not on an event level but you know we're selecting the range but we'll show you a quick way of doing this with the range tool and this was added in 13 which is a great little workflow addition so let's say if I wanted to come over here I have my range tool and I'm going to hit I think it's shift X and that splits the events so I just split the events using the range tool now if I switch to the object selection tool those events are now selected so I can adjust the I could trim I could adjust my volume we could say Okay I want that to start there and I have this in Shuffle mode sorry so let me put this in Grid mode I'm going to save the project in Grid mode so once we have the range selected so I'm going to hit shift X and that splits the range switch to the selection tool or just hit one on your computer keyboard so again we'll come here select a range shift X to cut hit one those functions are selected I can now do a fade I could adjust my clip game all right there so while the range is you know we can think of it as not the events but again once we have split events and we switch to the selection tool those events are automatically selected for us that we're in the range so then we can do those types of edits that you want to work with and that was added in 13 and it's really very handy especially with like the midi editing with the range tool so let me know if that's helpful okay Johnny ravioli says I'm so close to pulling the trigger on a crossgrade for 13 Pro so it's great and we hope that you do it and that you come back and we're able to help you get up to speed and working smart with your qas and thanks for coming to the live stream we appreciate it all right um John cinus asks hi Greg I was wondering if I create five string vsti channels and Route them to a group would these five instruments be equally distributed on the PC cores or because of the group going through one core all right so if we were to do this let's say I had one instance of we'll say hian Sonic here okay so let's say in this instance I'm doing like a string patch so we'll come over here to iconica sketch and okay we're going to put bases [Music] cello let's say Viola violin one violin here we'll just do violin one and two all right so in this case if we're most instruments would run this all on one single car because it's on one track and we're running multi-timbral capabilities now hien is smarter than most programs in that we could actually utilize multiple cores within hien so that will allocate the risk or kind of spread across the CPU usage what most programs will do is come over and say okay we have uh we'll get to our media bits get to our VST Instruments and we go to howan Sonic so most instruments don't allocate across multiple cores you could check with your particular instrument in that case if you wanted to spread out the CPU cores you would just say Okay I want to have you know just all right so we would say Okay violin one violin [Music] 2 [Music] violas I we'll say CH and as we do this this is adding multiple instruments so we go to our vsti rack we see that this instrument contains all of the CPU so in most programs most playback engines this is going to utilize one CPU core so what people tend to do is to now come over and run one instrument per instance and that will spread across the CPU cores it's not necessary routing it to a group but what the initial settings are on these particular tracks so if your playback host the hosting instrument doesn't support that then you'd want to to spread it across CPU cores it's not necessarily that it's being then processed into a group but it's kind of broken down and all Daws kind of work the same way where each particular track is utilized izing the different CPU cores when they're just spread across different tracks all right so we see Daniela toan just says for saxophone plug-in uses a Yamaha uh wx5 with the yamha vl70m um and is a plug in they use the Davidson audio multimedia evi ner maybe so I think the wx5 and V70 are Hardware Solutions so but probably the wx5 will work um as a controller for maybe the VST plugin thank you to Daniela for sharing that all right John Celina just says many thanks and hug appreciative for all your streaming videos they're very extremely helpful so I'm glad they're helpful otherwise I'd be probably wasting a lot of time but I'm just glad to be able to help people get up to speed and use their qbase better okay sued TV and recording studio says uh please how to hide trial plugins not delete them when I go to add a new plugin I cannot tell the difference between the demo version so have you tried I think we I mentioned this maybe in a previous live stream that if we go to the VST plug-in manager that if you select the plugin that you could choose to hide the plugin so it doesn't show up so let me know if you've done that so again go to your studio menu to VST plug-in manager select a plugin and then I think you could just choose to hide in the lower area here so you can do that with VST Instruments or VST effects once it's selected so let me know if you've done that all right so we see from Wolf um it says Dolby atos integration is cool but it's not possible to have a subwoofer in the control room or does anybody have a solution so let's good take a look at it see I have this one it's kind of already so you know your control room is going to be your overall volume [Music] so and once you have so you know once we go here to let's say your you know let's say we go to your uh Audio Connections you know let's say we have your output so we have the renderer channel here and so the LF is part of the 714 output so you know it's you know when we go to a particular track here so let's say we go to the Panner for this [Music] track and then we could set the level here I think this is the level to the LF directly there for every so that's your LF level right there so you know generally you don't separate it at the control room level but each track you could send to the LF if you're in beds uh objects per Dolby specifications you can't necessarily send to the LF but if it's in a bed you can so while there isn't a separate subwofer control you have the overall volume control right there and you could route your tracks to the LF that is routed through the control room but let me know if I misunderstanding your your point all right sain asks uh Greg or anyone do you know of a free way of doing blind test with a Plugin or can you tell me how to blind test in Cubase I went to blind test test if I could hear different sents off of different sents off of 440 Hertz um so it could really depend on you know what you're doing so I know some people may take a project here so we'll simplify this so let's say we will okay so let's say we have all right so say if we were doing a blind test of a plugin um so let's say we'll have this I'll just change the tempo of that so it's not 360 beats a minute okay so let's say we want to do like some AB comparison with this um all right so we're going to send this maybe to two groups let's add two groups okay and let's see if we could let's say on this we wanted to put like a heavy I'll just switch this to group two let me just get out of Atmos mode here real quick all right so let's see if we could maybe with a project logical editor if you want to do kind of blind test with this see if we could maybe just change the routing uh so let's see if we could just so we could change it there let me see if we do it on so we could change the outputs there let's see if we could maybe do it in the control room so let's send this to our main output okay so let's come over here let's say we want to switch between our inserts okay so if we come over here we could say our Dynamics let's put it through our vintage compressor okay and let's say if we come over to our guitar bus we wanted to add let's say our different compressors let's do a black valve here all right so if we wanted to listen to these we could say switch between so that's the Vintage compressor or that's the black valve and now we could this is the Vintage compressor so we could kind of switch between different control rooms if you have the control room and if we come over here let's go to our device so let's say on our drum bus we wanted to have a different compressor let's say the Vox comp okay so let's go to our midi remote and I'll just come here let's make it on an Untitled page I think we want to take like this particular button and let's go go to control room and I think that we could switch between different cues see if we can do it just in key command here but here if you wanted to audition like your different [Music] compressors if you don't know what they're kind of set up for and I think that there's a way to see if we could select see if we could figure out how to go between the different [Music] cues if there's a way to just navigate between the [Music] cues okay so we go to main um yes it may not be so blind because you could switch by hitting buttons but if you don't know what's going on with that but you could set like your different Q mixes here and then audition so now we're listening to the Vox comp we're listening to the black valve and now we're listening to the Vintage compressor so you could you could assign different buttons to it body may know what it is but that way you could you know maybe forget what the buttons are and just kind of close your you know and just get a sense which one you like best so that may be a way of doing it let me know if that makes sense for you but that's a pretty easy way to hit one button and monitor between different sources all right and there may also be just a like within the plugins I think that we could do like an AB setting as well um So within the plugins you can do ab settings but I don't think it's going to be on the tracks themselves but let me know if that's helpful so you see a comment uh from teren Shaw says having some great results of the vocal chain plug-in on acustic guitar so yeah you know is are just kind of great processes To Have and Have It All Consolidated you know don't necessarily use it just for vocals so see Val I guess say his AC can't turn on from April on it's not very efficient yeah so the place I got married it was like that too they could turn on air conditioning on May 15th and we got married on May 2nd and it was happened to be 90 degrees that day so so understand your pain you see Val just encouraging Johnny ravioli to do the switch to qase so and we have these great live streams twice a week just answering all your questions all right L Chay asks um hello Greg how do I change the input gain of all channels at once but keeping the relationship levels between them without setting them to the same level okay so let's say we have a number of input channels here let me just let's say we have these as our input channels okay and we want to maintain this proportionality of our inputs but maybe you want to increase and I had to do this in I used to do this on live concert recordings a lot like when did AIC Clapton's Crossroads um so what I would do is to just put these into Quick link and then inevitably like the artist will always kind of crank up and at that point you could just bring down or bring up the levels so you know once you have those input Channel selected you could just come right over here and bring them up or down and keep them all proportional if you have it and you want to make sure that the ABS we think ABS is the absolute value so if this is turned on when we adjust one they all snap to the same value without the ABS button turn on and quick link so if I wanted to come over here we could just say I'm going to hold down my ALT or option key and we could individually adjust our different settings right here so now I could just take my input channels and increase or decrease the gain proportionally right there so let me know if that's helpful all right my cha field just jumped we find my spot right see a comment from Michael team says Studio One is from ex Steinberg employees working for pronus now owned by Fender I I think the principal architect uh Wolf Gang kundrus I don't think he's been with pronus in maybe a dozen years or so so there may be one or one or two other people okay so we see from parabot two says tank CAG just updated windows and it's working so that's great okay so we have question from Wolf uh I have no idea how to control uh sub routed to a special interface output so you know once you go to your output here so let's go to your audio connections so let's say if we go to an output whether it's 51 or 714 so let's say we want to add a 5.1 all we would do is just say okay and I don't have six outputs on my interface here but you would basically just choose this you know an output on your audio interface and that's going to be connected from your your converter your audio interface or converter directly into your monitoring system so a lot of people may go directly into powered speakers and that channel is just going directly into the subwoofer and that's how you do the settings right there so if you're doing 714 same concept so as soon as we come here we say your LF this is your sub where from your audio interface is that connected to so that's what you need to Define okay so you see Michael team says was wondering most studios I've been in and that is quite a few have Subs in the ceiling are mapped to the room so the engineer knows the time delay for balancing so generally it's not the time delay you know what's crucial with the LF could be like if when you send to an LF some if you're doing like a 2.1 system that at that point you know the the 2.1 we could think of that as being you know we send the stereo signal into the sub and the sub does the cross over for the higher speakers and with a traditional 51 or 714 immersive it's not going through that process it's going directly from the audio interface into the LF directly so see Thomas just says thank you for your help I will get right on that so let us know how works so we see from Wolf uh to Michael says okay but it's not possible to turn it on and off in the control room so you know if you have a 2.1 setup you know it's you know so again if it's a 2.1 setup where you're not doing the crossover you know you have it that's a if you're sending stereo signal out you know that's going to include the LF and that's outside of qbase if you're sending a stereo out when you're sending a dedicated 5.1 output at that point it's going to the 0.1 is a dedicated Channel and what you're doing is just kind of monitoring through the system so you know and again it depends if your LF has a crossover but you know but generally that's taking two channels of information not three channels which is kind of what the control room would you know treat the LF as a separate Channel because that's what's needed for immersive monitoring or 5.1 but if you're taking a stereo out where you're using a sub then you would just take the stereo output and the sub is going to function as a cross over but you know that's outside of qbase since qbase is has a stereo monitoring path so let me know if that makes sense all right great to see Randy Lee from Texas on the live stream thanks for joining us see Michael teams has given him one gallon of banana nut bread ice cream it's very generous see Johnny ravioli just about coming to QB says the sport seems amazing and it deal is incredible so yeah it's a good good time and all right so we see parabot 2 says hi Greg I have a 32 key complete keyboard and friend said I could download a file and added to the sampler control area so all the features work on qbase can you demonstrate how to do this so I don't have that particular controller uh but it's probably not in the sampler control but probably in the midi remote so like when I come over here we could have I could have different midi remotes so I could have a um you know like a nectar controller I could have it set up for a I have a choice sauce controller or core Nano control so and then once we have this you know basically what that would be is you'd probably see a kind of a physical diagram of the knobs and buttons on your particular controller and then we could assign functions so a lot of times you may have functions that are already assigned or you could make you could reroute what functions are assigned so since I don't have that physical controller I can't really show it but once you import the script then that should automatically show up for you and you could then have all your knobs and faders control functions inside of qase all right so we see from motive says thank you Greg so you're welcome glad to help you see Jazz dudes uh posted the link for the custom remote script for the control M32 thank you for doing that jazz dude he's so good okay so we have a question from Alex Rob Robina why does quantization sometimes not work for me what are the steps to follow properly okay so let's say I wanted to do just some quick quantization okay so I wanted to do some I'm a horrible keyboard player so let's say I want to do some quantization here okay so I'm going to go ahead and just kind of play in let's see if I got should be hearing let me just check my routing here I'll just go to a different project all right let me just check my there that would be helpful if I play the right instrument okay so now let's say I wanted to just sequence using this so we'll turn on our clip [Music] track all right so now when we want to look at it we can think of quantizing is the general rule of thumb is you know when we listen to this we can see that okay I was a little early here we look at the grid that was early there and we want to kind of figure out what the smallest rhythmic value that we played so let's say we're going quarter notes and we have eighth [Music] notes so the smallest rhythmic value I played was an eighth note so that's probably the rhythmic value that I want to quantize to so if I quantize this to quarter notes and we select all the events everything that was D is [Music] now now if you make a mistake one of the great things with the quantizing Q bases you always go back and quantize to the original data so even if I did this again and say okay I want to quantize now to an eighth note instead that when I quantize that we could come [Music] over and sorry about that so the smallest rhythmic value you have here is the eighth note so at this point we'll say it's quantize and not to quarter but to e notes and now that we listen to it so make sure that you're always kind of using the particular smallest rhythmic value and use that as the basis for your quantize and sometimes if you have different rhythmic values you can say oh this I wanted to quantize you know I play triplets here we could choose a triplet value or dotted value as the base B is for quantizing so if we select a particular range say we would need to quantize this to triplets that we could just do it right there so let me know if that's helpful for you so but if again if you used a wrong rhythmic value for quantizing then that could mess you up all right so we see Val just says hey Greg did you have any luck finding infos about Magneto 2 I'm using it basically on every track so I really wonder about it so I haven't heard back yet but I do have a meeting uh maybe later in a week or early next week so I may have an answer so I'll see if I can find out for you again all right we see Daniela toan has to get up in six hours so thank you for joining us this evening all right all right so we see wolf just says hi Greg thanks but how can you control the sub in a 2.1 system so again you know you're monitoring stereo out with that and you're not doing three channels so what you would have to do you can't dial the sub in with the control room you'd need to do that in your actual monitors themselves because that's what's kind of splitting up the the two channels all right so we see sa just says uh he has a button on his stream deck to go to next qix already so yeah give that a shot I think that may be a good way of doing it right reading through comments thanks for all the great questions from everyone all right uh Zoar asks uh with the cor controller can it be set to used with vsts as well as track Etc uh you see the option but have no clue how to set it up so yeah you can you can use it for both and that's one of the things that you have is a concept of focus quick controls so right now I have this set for Focus quick controls and I have controller one so my knobs here are doing quick controls so when I go to a track you know one of the things we could do is if we go to our quick controls here we can just kind of right click and let's I think if we get to preset so say okay now I'm controlling the volume on my track my pan left to right my low cut on and off I could do sends one and two so we open up our Channel I could again volume pan and let's say sends one and two I have my sense turned off so let's say if I have these turned [Music] on okay so now at this point I could control these various [Music] parameters using my my quick control assignment so that the track is selected but now when I go to a plugin so let's say I go to my uh Studio EQ that now these parameters are automatically adjusting the EQ when this is the active window if I go to my VST base amp I can come over and just say let's go to Distortion and let's get to the VST Bas amp now since this is the active window it's controlling these parameters I select the track it's controlling the plug-in if I select the instrument so say if I come over here and I have the instrument open these controls are now controlling the instrument so you can go back and forth and with Focus quick controls kind of whatever the active window is you could do that and if you wanted to change the assignments all you have to do is you'll see this little QC at the top of each of the plugins and then you could say oh I you know for this parameter I wanted something different so I want to turn this knob on and off with that particular switch so we could learn that function so quick control one will'll now turn on that EQ knob on the VST Bas amp so you could assign the different settings very easily for each of those and whatever is the active window those eight parameters eight knobs are going to control those eight defined parameters but they're kind of automatically assigned for you as well and if you wanted the core controller to transmit midi CC's you could just simply deactivate the midi remote and then it's going to transmit midi CC's as well all right wonderful to see Patrick am manal a on and he asked hi Greg hi Greg happy to be on live how to change the size of notes on a fly with step input uh 16th 302nd note then eighth note on a fly change the Note size and grid size so there's a couple different ways um so you know while you're in I'll just rid of my masterpiece there okay so you can you know set up different rhythmic values just you know from even like midi remote so let's say if I'm here and I want to set the input size I'll just switch this so let's say Okay I want this to be all right so say I want uh eth note we'll apply the mapping and I want to change this knob to quarter note let's say this knob to 16th all right so now when we are doing step entry all right so let's say if I have this set to eighth notes I can now we have step entry on I could put in eighth notes and now let's say switch it to quarter notes I hit the remote control button 16th [Music] notes but you could also and one of the great things is once we have this I could also hold down the note and it doesn't AC ccept until I release the note so let's say we're back to quarter notes and I come right here we'll zoom in a bit so I'm going to say we're in quarter notes so as I hit a note when I release it that's when it puts the quarter note in okay if I undo that I could come over here and say hit my left and right arrow keys and I could just change the lengths so I want that to be a quarter note let go it's a quarter note let go and let's say I want to do a whole note so I'm going to hit the right arrow key so if I have this if I'm kind of starting off with 16th notes you know we could come over here and say okay let's [Music] just then we could just hold down the [Music] particular so you could just use the left and right arrow keys or assign to different quantize values so that was a a big feature request from composer Alan sylvestri he's done like you know 18,000 amazing films Force Gump and Back to the Future is like the nicest person in the world so but yeah so you can change it on the fly a couple different ways and great to have you back on live Patrick always great to see Lawrence cotch from Barn Door recording from Rhode Island glad you can make it today all right saurin asks uh Greg I know you don't know the future and cannot reveal if you did know but if you took a guess will the freebies extras that comes in sale now be existing in some future sale of Cubase also I would say probably my guess you know we've done this twice and the only one that was the same between the two different promotions was the essential so I would say that there's an 80% chance or we'll say you know maybe a 16% chance if we're to think of it that way I think there's six plugins so let's say 16.67% chance that that plugin won't will be in the next one so I would say that they're probably going to be doing you know get a variety of different tools so it's not the same plugins all the time so I would take advantage of the freebies now cuz the next time it could be different ones and you may have missed out on a great plugin so and you have to redeem them before the end of the month all right so we see Sable Winters who's driving by to say hi and she's hit the like button at number 48 thanks for joining us Sable all right all right pylon records asks uh hi Greg the Steinberg axr for you USBC audio interface uh has so many connections there's nothing like on Market how come it's never taken off also is it M1 compatible is this made by Ry thanks so it's not made by Ry it's manufactured by Yamaha um it is M1 compatible um and some of the reasons why it didn't take off is because there was part shortages so a few years ago you know there was kind of a uh you know this is an actual real supply chain issue so a lot of the uh audio interfaces were using components made by company called akm which made most of the converters for audio interfaces so akm made the converters for the 32-bit 384k converters that are in axr foru so it's kind of really bleeding edge converters their Factory burned down you could read about it online so their Chinese Factory burned down and they weren't really able to get that factory resuscitated so there was a lot of times when you know there's a period of time when a lot of audio interfaces you know that uh you know they the companies had their supplies of components but the components were being made by akm and those components dried up so that's probably why it's not as frequently used but a lot of high-end audio interfaces uh in comparison to sales you know aren't nearly as strong as like a twoin two out interface can sell like a hundred times more than one highend audio interface so I guess it's like to quote my friend John devans the air at the top can be thinner so Air at the top of the mountain is thinner but yeah it is a wonderful interface and that's why you using my personal studio all right Beno just says hi from France no question just learning and about the Cross grade so yeah um feel free to ask any questions we're happy to have you in the Steinberg family it seems like there's lots of people cross grading and migrating to qbas from other programs as subscriptions get implemented and subscription prices tend to never go down and some companies are raising their subscription prices so we like owning our software I do okay so we see JD El's attending a meeting but he stopped in to hit the like button so hope you're doing well enjoy your meeting and hopefully we'll see you back on Friday for the live stream so parabot 2 just ask so the cork Nano control has a script you can import into qbase that is so helpful never knew it could do so much so yeah the cork Nano control is automatically recognized by qas so some of the scripts you just connect it and it's automatically turned on engaged and ready to go and a COR Nano control 2 is one of those I'd say it's probably the best $79 I've spent in my studio for a long time so I hate having to necessarily buy new studio Furniture to accommodate a you know a control surface so this actually fits right between my computer keyboard and my midi keyboard and it's been just great U I'm a fan of it personally all right and we see from parabot 2 um can you set the Nano control to record SL SLP punch in ETC is it just for VST controls so when you look at the cor Nano control 2 we'll just come over to our midi remote and I'll switch it so and you could actually have different mapping pages so you get a number of different mapping pages but let's say I just want to go to uh like my focus quick controls and you have a whole transport section here so you can play your project stop rewind fast forward so there are um so your transport controls are available directly right on the unit itself so you could remap those for different things but you could use it for transport as well and any of the buttons that you see here so you have eight knobs eight faders three buttons per Channel those are all available plus you have you know transport some banking buttons so it's a great bang for the buck for a controller Okay so we see from r y yv maybe R Riv um can I have guitar pedals remember presets on midi tracks so if the guitar can so I'm not sure if it's like an actual physical guitar pedal so you know what you can do if you know with a guitar pedal um if it has midi and responds to a program change so not a lot a lot of guitar pedals do I some may do it now that have like USB connections and could you know usually like a multi effects processor often used in guitars can switch sounds and you would come over to a midi track and what they would do is we'll say okay this is going to be my guitar effects unit and and they would different presets could be switched by using program changes so if you come over here we could go to the midi editor we'll say okay let's switch this to program change so when we get to the verse of our song you know we could just come over so we'll get to program change and say okay when we get to the course we want to go to this sound and let's say in Reverse we want this sound in the intro we want this so as the sequence plays the midi program change could be sent from the midi midi communication so where it's connected into the midi of the computer and we could just send that directly out to you know any midi port and that will recall the the different the different program changes or presets most pedals don't necessarily have presets but what you can do is actually just take a picture of the pedal if it's a physical pedal take a picture of it you could go to your track pictures here and at this point go to user and you could just take a picture of your pedal import it into your Cubase project and just have the the settings actually stored within your CBE base project as well so that that could be a different route there's also track notes so if you wanted to go to the notepad you could go to the guitar pedal um so let's say we could come over here to the project notepad so you could say you know gain [Music] 2:00 you know um blend you know 12:00 you know so you could actually type notes so you could match up the pedals if you know the parameters to the pedals as well so but a lot of times you know you could run it through guitar pedals but the guitar pedal itself unless it could respond to program changes may not just recall and be able to be switched and it's just a limitation of the guitar pedal itself okay so we see boss um so it's a boss 500 series and it's USB yes so if it's USB there's probably a good chance that it will respond to to the program changes so but yeah so give that a shot and that way even if you have like backing tracks live you could just play your guitar and it will just switch and all the different scenes and effects can be recalled for you okay uh so we see question uh out of curiosity do you know do you maybe know someone mixing for Daryl Hall so not off the top of my head I could see who is I'm not sure if it's mixing the records or mixing live shows like live stuff or the content from Daryl's House so but I could look up to see who's doing it but not off the top of my head but I I could take a look and see if I know someone involved um all right so we have John Tyler checking in from Milwaukee thanks for being online with us today all right so we have a follow-up question um are you aware of what other Daws are that now utilize all performance and efficiency cores so I haven't kept up I saw one video and I think it was just cubas and Reaper at the time that we're doing it but I'm not sure if the other companies have updated I don't have licenses for other Daws uh but I know the qbase and theend do they took a lot of time and effort to make that work so but you could maybe check with each of the companies and see but I don't have licenses for the other Daws don't really feel a need to okay so we have from cronology uh cron cronology Crown allery hey Greg using my yamot X mx49 is a midi controller for qbas elements 10.5 but recently have updated my computer the vsts I play just won't work even with there being midi act in in activity help all right so if you see midi inactivity here and you'll see this in the lower right hand corner when you hit the keys you'll see like when I hit the key a little light turns on and off so that means that we have midi communication all right so that's a good thing so if we have a particular instrument I select the instrument should be able to hear that now if we don't hear that we want to a make sure cuz D sometimes you could use the surface for you know I know a lot of the yam Haw keyboards Let Me Clear My Throat I know that a lot of the yam HW keyboards will have like transport controls and you have like four knobs that you could use for your control surface so try going to your studio setup and go to the midi Port setup and you may notice we'll see if you actually have any of these controllers that are kind of set up for you know so you may see multiple controllers like my Panorama P4 I have you know multiple midi ports so I think you'll see the same thing once you're connected to USB and I think you mentioned all right so first thing is you know within the Yamaha Keyboard make sure that you know it's set to transmit to USB or you could have it also set to transmit via the standard five port MIDI five pin D midi connection so you probably want to set the communication over USB make sure that you know check to see if you have these particular if you have like a control surface something like a little script here that may say like yeaha mx49 or if you're using it as a Mackie control you know that you don't have any control surfaces set up here for the mai control so like these aren't being set with your Yamaha as the input or output because if we have your Yamaha being the input or output of a macki control that will kind of hijack the midi communication with that so if you don't see any generic remote Mackie control other settings here that are being utilized for the Yamaha that's a good sign then we want to make sure that we see all midi inputs as our input source so if I come here and I set this to my choice o controller my nectar can't play now if we look at again go to the studio to Studio setup and we could say when we go to our midi Port setup we could see what particular devices are listed in all midi inputs so so if you're using in all midi inputs make sure that your Yamaha is listed here sometimes you may not want to have the control functionality listed if you're doing transport or when you hit the play or stop you may hear a midi note so you could if it's not working with in all midi inputs so if we have all midi inputs try just to come here and select your Panorama your Yamaha mx49 now if we have the instrument loaded up and we hear the sounds we can isolate and see that it's a midi communication problem so when I hit the keys we should see it visually on like an instrument like hle and Sonic we should see those keys coming down now there is a preference that could also kind of decouple the midi communication from the program so one to check also is come over here to your preferences and let's go to I think it's going to be under editing midi um or maybe just under midi yeah so go to Just midi here and make sure that midi through active is turned on otherwise midi can come in but it's not going to the device because we're not sending the MIDI through so and sometimes you may do that for live performance so go to preferences and also check midi and that the midi through active is turned on and now you should be able to just kind of play that and you know also one way to check to see if it's a problem with qbase or if it's a midi communication problem is if hit alt or option plus the letter K like keyboard you can now click here and you should be able to play play the different sounds uh right from there if we have it set to all midi inputs and you can use like your actual computer Keys like q w r t y u i and be able to test that and you can see if qbas is receiving midi or if it's a transmission problem so try some of those things check your preference to make sure midi through is active um also like I ran into had someone call me up in a panic last month um just completely freaking out nothing was working and they went to their midi filter and like midi notes were filtered off and every midi channel was filtered off so by default this should be set to you know just sisx and you could just click here on defaults but also make sure that you're not filtering out every note controll or pitchbend under midi to MIDI filter so give those suggestions a try and let me know how if that's helpful for you hope you get it working all right uh so we have a question from Zohar it says for some reason the core controller doesn't work the way you've shown it it's only controlling the mixer all right so when you go to the midi remote what you want to do is you'll have a thing called a mapping page so if we just click right here you could just come over you could select and we could think of a mapping page as like different control we're taking the same parameters and we could control different things so try if it's set to mixer here try to click on Focus quick controls try to go to selected track and see if that will allow you to kind of switch which parameters it's working with so try that and let me know Zohar all right all right uh see John Tyler ask what does aagard meter measure exactly all right so when we look at our meters here uh we'll go to our studio menu to our audio performance all right so we see real time meters and AO guard so let's say I have I'm recording onto an audio track so I come down here we have an audio track and notice that when I will select tracks for record what's going to happen I'll set an input here okay so when we select an input I'm going to let's say add a track a plugin on this track so we think the AO guard is what we can do with AO guard is instead of running every track at low latency we may go okay really what's critical is a track that's record enabled or monitored that that track will run in low latency and the other track run in kind of a hybrid approach and the hybrid approach is the other tracks that aren't being recorded to or monitored currently those tracks will run at a lower latency so if we have a track that is record enabled I could come over here let's say I want to put on a like a heavy plugin so let's say or vocal chain Okay so I'm going to turn on my vocal [Music] chain let's say warm tube vocal all right so we'll notice that as if we added a number of these kind of heavier plugins let's do a multiband delay or multi-tap delay rather and let's throw on like an effects modulator and some of these plugins can have multiple plugins within them so we'll come over here to modulation okay so now like as we have it on this track we can see that our AO guard is going to be higher because this is our active track so I'm going to take this off record and monitor enable and notice that when we kind of come back that this track once it's record enabled that the AO guard will kind of creep up so that's just showing the particular plugins that are on that need to be you know to and they call it kind of like a prefetch where they need to do more calculations to get the delay and the the delay compensation and all the processing to happen so those plugins that are running at you know tracks that are record enabled will you know that will turn on the actual and you see when I select different track we can see that change so that's just showing you kind of the real time the tracks that are currently record enabled monitored that need to do additional heavier processing versus plugins that are just playing back tracks and with plugins so it can doesn't have to run the tracks that are just playing back can run at higher buffers and lower buffers for the tracks that are record enabled and that's what that meter is showing you all right so we see from Eric Fox uh says please Greg can you tell Steinberg team to make Groove agent five be able to export to custom samples with the qbase project in some future update regards and thank you for all so you know there's a couple you I've mentioned it to them and there's been some discussions on you know best practices if you know should it be treated as a plugin especially if it's treated as a plugin in other programs or is it kind of go beyond a traditional plug-in status when running it in qbase or is that kind of negating it working in other Daws for file management what I see a lot of people do is you know all the samples you know I seen some people will import all the samples into a track that they're going to be using for Groove agent and just choose to you know disable the track and then or hide the particular track so that's one way but if we have a custom Groove agent kit here so let's say we have a kit that we've made you know I could take these samples so now we have different samples on our pads here and then if we just rightclick and Export the kit with samples that we could just archive this to my April 9th folder so we could just store this within the particular project folder that we wanted so you can say okay we're going to name this you know name of the project we'll say April 9th 2024 and now we could choose to export and again we could right click export the kit with samples and store it in your particular folder so again I'll say this is our project folder hit okay and now the kit will be stored with within the project folder so if you need it to you know find the kits they could all be directly within your project folder if you want it but it's I'll continue to have more discussions to make it more obvious as well all right Luigi asks if I record in qase is streaming 24bit 96k when I export for audio CD do I have to add dithering you don't have to add dithering but often it's going to be a a good choice to use and you have the built-in Lin one dither so if you wanted to come over um I would just come over and have the Lin one dither the Lin dither so you could utilize that so a lot of people will choose to export a 24-bit 96k and then within the mastering scenario so if you're taking it to mastering give them the highest resolution file take it into and they'll take it into a program like wave laab and they'll be able to export to all the different settings and there's you know could be different dithering settings that they're going to use but you know you don't have to but it would probably be advantageous too to apply the dithering okay we see um about Daryl Hall says I'd love to know who they are working with these days because I learned a lot by listening to things by Robert F did for sacred songs for darl yeah I'll see if I could do some research on it right always wonderful see Michael Pierce from Grand Chapel studios in England glad you can make it on today all right so we see from Keith young hello Greg just a thought understand you're a bass player what processing do you use or recommend for sustain or an all around sound it sets well in the mix thank you I generally don't use any processing whatsoever I just go my base directly into my axr4 U and I find that sounds great I prefer active elect RCS personally there's a lot of you know and we had a discussion with this with Chuck ANL and I think it was John Costigan was asking about you know how to you know any tips on working with you know working with a Basse part with flat wound strings which are kind of duller maybe you know what you would CL think of a classic Motown or 60s type Vibe where's not a lot of highend and you know one of the things I said and something I shared with John is that a lot of times you know what sounds great on a base solo may not work well in a track um but you know it could sound awful by itself like I think a lot of if you you listen to a lot of the James Jamerson who's a phenomenal bass player did just mindboggling you know things for pop music bass playing with all the mtown stuff if you listen to his tone not it's not really good it wouldn't really hold to test of time but it works so well in context of the songs but isolated it's you know it could be really not so great um you know like I wouldn't go to a gig with a sound like that if I showed up at a gig you know everyone would give me kind of a weird look if my bass sounded like that so it may work well in the context of a mix but it may not sound great soloed and that's perfectly fine so it's always to me in context of the song how does the Bas fit um but I tend to use um I may rely more on the the back pickup you know if you have like a PJ combination I may rely more on it's like slightly on the edge of the Jazz base pickup closer to the bridge I find that that will give you a little more clarity in the mix um but I don't do anything special I have you know multiple preamps for Bas I tend just to keep a really simple solution when I play play live now I go out with an EG uh scdi and I you know take my in from that so it has like a stereo input so I'll take a stereo feed from the console so I can have my own headphone mix and I send my signal from there but it's pretty flat overall coming out of the scdi and everyone seems to love the tone from it I generally play like you know for my recordings all the hot mess recordings is generally a Warwick uh fretless Corvette the four string I don't play five string I'm a four string guy you know great if you have five strings but I no real Secrets I just plug the base right in I keep it a very simple signal flow I try to you know new bass strings to me is the best way to improve tone to get more clarity but I I try to keep it very simple uh and my base tracks will tend to sustain for a really long time it's just that basee and it's a bolt-on neck but you know it could out sustain any Paul Reed Smith or Les Paul guitar I'm not sure what they do at the Warwick Factory uh but they do some great things for Bas so but nothing no secret trick just kind of play plug my base right in and hit record you know that's the best part of the Basse stone is just hitting record all right and we hope you're doing well Keith thanks for coming on all right we have Roger CBO on right my Chatfield just jumped all right Luigi asks uh I would like to know when I split an album in different tracks can I export single event uh in different one file easily thanks um yeah so we'll show you how to do that so we could do this kind of utilizing cycle markers so let's pretend this was a long live recording I don't think I have any examples right on my computer but let's take a look so let say we did a live recording and this is like two hours long or whatever and we want to break it down by song so I will come over let's add a marker track okay and we'll call this songs for the marker all right and I'll just so let's say I'm going to grab my range tool so let's say I found like this is song one so I'm going to hold down I think it's control shift p let me just okay all right so I'm just holding down control and shift and I drag so let's say this is song one and song to so I hold down control or command and drag so say this is song to and this when I hold down the shift key it allows me to kind of put the name in automatically that was added in 13 so let's say there's little audience chitchat all right but the song starts let me just undo that so say the song starts right there and goes to There song three so we could just kind of break down our songs along these lines all right so now when I want to export these all you have to do is say we'll go to our file menu to export audio mix down we'll come over here to our site markers and we'll say okay we want export Cycles 1 through 4 so now we're going to do a stereo mixdown I'm going to put these into an audio track so I'm going to say let's export and now we're exporting based upon the cycle markers and we look at our songs they're all just kind of laid out for song 1 2 3 4 Etc so set the range and put a cycle marker and again just you could hold down command Control Plus shift and just drag and type the name in and then you can now just come over and when you export you could have the have It carry over the cycle marker name if you want but you could take one longer recording and break down to individual songs very easily that way so let we know if that's helpful Luigi all right so we see MW says Hey guys haven't seen you all months hope it all well so glad you can make it today all right uh Barren just says question side chain is not working in qbase Pro 13 I can't see all my inputs when trying to add all right so let's say we have let me just jump to this project where we have some side chains there could be some side chain routing scenarios that could create a feedback loop and if that's the case then you won't be able to necessarily see them as available inputs but so if we are trying to do a side chain on let's say if we have this rout it to a group track all right so we call this group Channel out so when I come to this particular track we'll go to our uh let's get to the insert so say we have our compressor set up so let's say we have um our group so let's say if we wanted to send a side chain to the kick but now that this is going out to the channel out group let's see if all right so if it's not showing up as an available side chain input it could be that it would create a feedback loop so check this check the routing because not everything can you know cuz you know if we created feedback loops that would be bad and could be really bad for your speakers and people would try to sue us for you know destroying their speakers for creating a feedback loop so if it's not showing up as an option maybe if you could check the particular routing and let me know what the what the routing configuration is but it my guess would be that if it's not if it's not visible that it would be creating a feedback loop all right so we have a question uh is it possible to MIDI remote the atmos Panner let's give it a shot okay so let's come over here to Guitar let's get to mini remote I'll put it on Untitled all right so I'm going to say pick up for Midi remote [Music] mapping all right so now I could go left right here and let's say front back I want to on this knob knob apply the mapping so now I have two knobs on my metor remote and let's say if we want to do height I'll put this for my third knob and we will apply the mapping all right so now I'm going to take these first three knobs and control the height so I need three different knobs to do this but we could definitely just kind of work between those three knobs like so and then if you want to have another one that did rotation let's say if I come here pick up for me remote double click so now I could rotate the Z axis or say it so say this I want controller my knob my fifth knob to control so again let's see if we could so you could also set it up as quick controls but yeah you can just kind of set those up have all sorts of fun right Darren flake asks uh how to disable midi remote script console when starting qbase it pops up every time I have two midi devices connected I checked the input output seems to be fine any suggestions okay so when we go to a midi remote script if we come over here let's go to the settings page all right and if we so let's say I want my P4 to be disabled go to scripts and then you'll come over here and we'll see um think that we could disable the controller strip right there so once again just you'll see this little settings Cog wheel choose your script then when we come over here we could say for my P4 we could disable or enable the script so just try that all right Mr Dolly 67 asks Greg is there any way I can set key binds for the space bar to work in classic qase First Press stop second press go to last locator Point uh try to figure out myself without any luck so you could come over and if you use the not the space bar but let's say you use the I'll just move this over here just use the zero key so let's say I on the numeric keypad so if you have a numeric keypad which I always highly recommend let's say I hit the enter for play so now when I stop um and this may overwrite depending on I'm just going to set my start mode here to not return to start position on stop so let's say I hit the space bar so the space bar is kind of on off so if right now it's set to automatically continue on from that point because we can think of the space bars being kind of binary it's playing or it's not playing and we could choose to have the space bar return to the start position so we go to transport and it's on 13 we could choose our to go to return to start position so if I start playing right at measure 192 and I stop it goes back to measure 192 now what I'm I what I personally do is not use the space bar um I use and I'm going to just change the transport Behavior here to disable that so I use let's see if this still works so I'm going to hit play with the enter key then I stop once it stops in place I stop again I hit the zero key to stop so first time so play the enter key is play then zero will stop in place hit zero again it goes to the start position so you could do it just kind of like that so maybe if you used a numeric keypad that you have you know one button that stops and you hit it first time it will stop in place and hit it again it goes to its return position so it's not necessarily but on off on off like the space bar but kind of like Classic Q I hit stop stops I hit it again we go back so that's kind of the transport that I kind of still use since Atari days and you know on there if you hit the asterisk key that's record you know where you have the slash for setting up you know Loops you know go to left and right locators one and two so I kind of use my right hand for transport on a numeric keypad so try that but if you want it to change the behavior to go back and forth you can come over to the start mode and turn on there and earlier versions like 12 and earlier it's going to be a preference so if we go to your preferences transport you can see the return to start stop return to start position is a preference there always wonderful to see Thiago checking in from Brazil thanks for joining us see Sable Winters I scrambled her brain with an explanation so now I don't know what it was but it was 24 minutes ago all right see best green Jesus says he will join us on Friday thanks for being online today he's going to demo Cub 13 to decide so I think you'll like it all right so we see Michael Pier says he dropped that upgrade installing across the systems playing with all new toys that came with it much fun so far qas 13 will hit the chap on a week or so he thinks all right all right you see best Ken Jesus is coming prepared to to the best hair contest next Meetup I think that's fighting words to Michael Pierce always wins the best hair of the zoom Meetup my chat field just jumped on me let me find my spot all right think I'm close you see John Tyler is a fan of Flats on his base and uses the Bell lention like Gage like gauge Flats on both his P likes how the fundamental comes through okay reading through comments Jazz dude says yes no Bots finally YouTube seems to have gotten rid of them so now you just curse we we've cursed it by mentioning it but I always appreciate your diligent moderation all right right Sable Winters ask uh Greg why would someone dither down in mastering I don't understand the value or scenario so generally like if you're sending it to someone for mastering it's always you always want to deliver the highest quality the highest resolution files for them so and if you are delivering to different formats because people still buy CDs um so a CD you know your project may be a 24-bit 96 or 24bit 48k but the CD is going to be fixed at 16bit 44.1 resolution so if you want to deliver the CD you have to you know basically deliver a lower resolution file and you want to include the dithering so that you could maintain kind of the higher Sonic Integrity of the file when you deliver of everything that you've worked with at higher resolution so that could be kind of carried through to lower resolutions so this way you know depending because multiple delivery formats and types of delivery mechanisms will have different um different requirements for what they do so often we work you know with a higher resolution so probably you know if you're watching Lord of the Rings the resolution done for a big huge screen in a theater that quality is going to translate down to you know when you watch it on your Roku box at home when you watch it on your iPad when you watch it on your phone so you know you want to work for the highest resolution possible to make sure that works that's working well and then because it's easier to then translate that down to higher quality for lower resolution delivery devices or formats or mediums all you see Walter till says thanks CRA for showing the atmos midi remote that helps a lot thanks see Michael Pierce says um comment to Jazz duties borrowing an ambusic mic has been by the coast for three days of test recording but realiz I'd set it up in the wrong Mode still sounds quite cool but this is a learning Topic at the moment all right so uh Jazzy LEL just says hey Greg is there a way to check to see if qase is using all my 24 cores on my one CPU so if you open up like um I think there is on Apple you know I know that there's I'm sure there's something on Windows I haven't checked but like an activity monitor um but then you could see how the you know how the CPUs are being utilized across so there is like a system utility but you know realize that the performance meter you know and the the CPU performance meter and the audio performance meters are going to be different but you can see I don't I've never done it on my Mac but if you Google um just you know looking at I think it's like system monitor system activity something like that on Mac let me just see if we could find it here that's the right term for it or not let just look at me like I'm dumb all right so I think that's what it is on Windows and I'm sure Windows has something equivalent I haven't run out of let's but there are just um so but yeah you can look within the operating system and see the core usage okay so burnt just says uh I have a vocal group this question is and this might be with the side chain routing I have a vocal group audio sent to one effects send Reverb using Steinberg pressor toed duct the Reverb to the dry vocal but I can't see my vocal as an alternative it's not showing up routing is okay okay so let me just to new project we'll take a look we just import tracks from okay so let's say we have all these uh vocal group audio all right so I'm going to send these to a group right now let me just change the routing here sorry about that let me just all right so's say these are all going to a group um okay so say it's going to the I'm not sure if the group is going to the Reverb so let's and if I get this wrong if you could specify that would be great so let's come over here to [Music] um all right so wrong sample R but okay so have vocal group audio sent to one effects Reverb using sniper compressor to duck the Reverb to the drive vocal okay so let's come over here we have our effects send let's go to our let's just say our compressor let's open that up and do the side chain yeah let me just get rid of sorry okay so uh using a sniper compressor to duck the Reverb to the drive vocal all right so let's I [Applause] so let me know if that's kind of looks like that is looks like it adds maybe because they're all grouped together but let me [Applause] [Applause] just so it looks like that is kind of working as expected since they're all grouped but let me know if I did it differently but it looks like all the different um side chain sources and could because they're all contributing to the group but seems like that's working as expected so but let me know if you have it routed differently all right and it says question for some reason have all my S showing up as default when adding a new track um how do I turn that function off okay so let's say if we I think it's going to be the preference come [Music] over um so go to your preferences to VST and I think if you um so again it's going to be uh I have all my S showing up as default when adding a new track how do I turn that function off and I think if you uncheck connect sends automatically for each newly created channel so uncheck that then I think that will do the trick for you so again go to preferences under VST connect sends automatically for each newly created Channel all right all right so you see Mr Dolly says uh used to go to the left locator if you pressed again and it went to the start of the arrangement so yeah I think the behaviors Chang but let's I'll just try it on a new project and this is with the transport behaviors let's say if I'm here so's say we play all right so let's say I'm going to play from measure two and I hit the enter key so I think if you just hit the if you want to go to the beginning of the project you know so if I hit stop I hit zero once I do that if I hit it again we go to the start right in the middle of the period that will take you to the beginning of the project and right above if we have the like left and right locator set so let's say okay so all within kind of the same ballpark so let's say we're starting at measure two so I'll stop with my space bar so I hit play then hitting zero one stops it in place hitting zero again takes it to the start position period between the zero and the and of play will take you to beginning of the project one will take you to left locator two will take you to the right locator so all those keys are right there so I think once you get that kind of muscle memory going that you'll be in great shape all right all right so we see uh burnt solved the side chain I need to get the function off to be able to set as my side chain inputs how to get rid of send showing up as default okay so I think yeah so hopefully we solved that for you burnt okay so we see Mr Dolly 67 says I want one of those Legato things I always forgot to name probably an Elgato stream deck yeah so that they come in handy okay so Val ask question is it possible to have one supervision window just representing the track that's selected without soloing so I think that we could side chain into it [Music] um but let's give it a shot so say we have this going on and if I have the side chain in my master input so let's say we go we have a supervision open here so let look at maybe on Spectrum bar so say this is everything but now I think we could just come over here and just say just sidechain the base right here you know so I mean you could have side chain on you could have supervision on every single track um or you could you know choose to side chain different tracks so let's say I want to get rid of this and let's side chain guitar and at this point you can say okay let's do my side chain and we can say Left Channel Side chain so you could have you could switch between kind of different side chain sources if you wanted to here um but yeah I mean if you wanted quick access to everything you know it's soloing is probably still the the fastest way of doing it you know unless you have supervision installed on every particular track so all right Darren flake says uh how to automate CC1 midi note expression for piano um so generally a lot of CC1 you know is kind of often more not for piano parts but more for string parts so if we have let's say I'll just add an instance of howwi and Sonic here so all right so when we go to like a string part you know a lot of times because you know pianos um you know one of the interesting things I always found about Pian was you know you can't necessarily change the sound after you start a note so let's say if I have this for you know I could use like a modu you know a midi cc to control the Dynamics because you could change the Dynamics of like a string Sound by bowing harder or wind instrument by blowing harder or brass instrument but with pianos you can't really get kind of the same factor so if we go to piano um so let say I'll just come over [Music] here all right so it's you know so now when I play piano you know sometimes it may do like some filters so but if you want it to you know just so a lot of times it may not do uh what people expect but let's say we just have some piano notes in and all you'd have to do to edit the data is to come over here say okay you want this to be midi expression at this point you could just kind of draw it in but it may not so let's say as we play these [Music] notes so it could be like just doing modulation but you know all you'd have to do is Select it in the controller lane and then you could drag and drop and draw it in and edit it like other midi CC's all right Michael team says uh howdy Greg putting in a marker track but can't rename the markers the spot seems to have disappeared above the inspector description spot all right so let's say if we have a some markers here so you may have to have the marker selected before you can see the sorry about that it's incredibly confusing all right hit the wrong keys so you you you may not see it until an actual marker is selected to name so if no marker is selected it'll be blank once it's selected did then you could type in the marker name so let me know if that makes if that works for you Michael so no marker selected no field visible when you select it the field is visible okay sa says going to have to listen to the dithering explanation again with both ears maybe it's the dithering that's making it not clear from my point so our people understand Jazz dude has 63 tabs open in his browser yeah I get to be bad like that too so sometimes wonder if it's actually a good thing having multiple tabs open if keep reopening the same tabs because you can't find them quickly all right uh Darren flake just says how to enable drag and drop samples from the desktop to Cubase project seems disabled for me I have to import files so you know if you just you know come over and let's say you choose to import to files you know we could just do that right here you know so if you import audio files you can go to your desktop and drag and drop you could also go from your media Bay if you come here to file browser and choose your desktop you can see all of your files to drag in when often when I hear people talk about dis mention is they may have to change the administrator rights for qbase I think if you turn you know try WR clicking on the qbase icon and toggling the administrator status so if you are the if it's running as administrator turn it off if it's not running as administrator turn it on just toggle the administrator status for the program and I think you'll be able to drag and drop but I think if you work with media Bay here in the side that it could be much faster than having to navigate between multiple windows and applications as well all right um so we have all right from Keith young says another question please audio clipping meter how to make it bigger and how to quickly identify what's clipping thank you so if so let's say if we have this as our PR project and we have some different parts that are clipping I'll just revert this all right so just turn time but let's say we have track that's clipping and let's take this guitar and add some preg gain to it [Music] and I'll just turn down all right so like this guitar could be clipping so often when you see like the if you when you stop you'll see like this red line at the top of the fader so let's just make the fader here wider so like as you look at it we can see like where we have those red lines that would indicate clipping on the channel but sometimes it could be clipping in other sources as well it could be clipping you know going through in effect end or going through different groups and that could be harder to trace down um so you know sometimes you know it's like if you say you know add 5 + 6 + 10 + 14 + 13 plus 12 which one exceeded 21 you know so it's the culmination of many different factors that can often lead to clipping but on a channels like as you do this you could just kind of look right there and if you want to also you like change your meter coloring to be more we'll call it Homer Simpson obvious if you go to your preferences go to your metering appearance you could set up like okay at minus 2db I want this to be like annoyingly red so that as we are doing this we'll say okay we'll apply hit okay and now you could to say like when we get to a particular level you could change the meter colors to make it a bit more obvious as well and again you can do that by going to pref references and just choosing defaults or and just changing your default meter right there so let me know if that's helpful for you okay see Roger CBO says he was like number 99 thanks for that all right Robert Moy asks hi Greg do you know if it's possible to program a stream deck to open and close individual plugins on a selected track so I think you could do it through generic remote so let's come over to a generic remote so let's say on this I have [Music] um on insert so say one two three four five six seven all right so if we wanted to do this let's say on our selected track and let's say I go here [Music] and I want to open black valve and let's say that's on both on seven okay so let's say I want to go to import input s and I want to do this so we could do it through generic remote which means that you could have a stream deck trigger a particular uh midi note to trigger the generic remote so I'm going to come over here let's go to our generic remote I'm going to we'll just add we'll start from scratch so we'll say generic remote and I'm going to use my nectar midi in and midi out so I want to take I'll click on this note and we'll go to um see if it's here and we'll say selected and we can say go to insert I think that we could choose to open up insert 7 and edit okay so I'm going to hit okay so now when I hit this key we could open up that particular plugin I go up one channel here we have the frequency so now I could just hit that button and insert seven pops up I go down to the next track insert 7 here is black valve so whatever insert 7 is you could just program that I don't think we could do that in the new midi remote but we could do it in the existing generic remote so let me know and once you do that you could set up a a a stream deck to execute that command or any MIDI controller that you have in your setup can work as well but there's a free utility where the stream deck you could have a midi it could transmit a midi note message to do that you have to set up a loop back it could be a little convoluted uh but you could definitely do that with or without a stream deck Jazzy LEL asks have a question is it possible that Steinberg can make a version plugin of the tube Tech cl1b I'll pass it along as a feature request but you know they do a great job with their plugins so but I'll pass that along all right uh burnt asks uh When selecting multiple tracks and then selecting a folder the tracks don't go into the folder why uh any suggestion how to make the how to make tracks go into a folder immediately all right so let's say if I have a folder here and I have these tracks so you know we can if you just drag and drop tracks to the folder so we could do that like so now the guitar tracks are in the folder um if you know if we wanted to take existing tracks and create a new folder we could rightclick and just say create move selected tracks to new folder and that will be carried over but to an existing folder you would need to physically move those tracks or move the folder with subtracks you can have a folder within a folder as well but to add to an existing folder you would need to physically move it with your mouse you see from B thanks for all the knowledge okay see Roger just says likes me may not update in real time for me so sometimes you may have to refresh to see the likes but thank you for all the likes okay Michael team says okay thanks Greg brain cramp is now cleared uh so we see what's the highest number of likes we've received so I think some of them gotten over 250 at times and they will what's interesting about the live streams is they get watched over and over again you know like streams from three or four years ago still get watched a lot now it's kind of interesting like I think just uh like last Fridays if you look at it now may be um you know but there's lots of likes that come in afterwards as well see saber Winters ask how can we increase our live numbers I share to Facebook and Linkedin from time to time so maybe we should have a special everyone invite a friend that they want to run Cubase uh session with something like that so bring a friend and maybe we could do a giveaway to random person that brings a friend something like that okay so we see feature request please from Keith young I know it may sound odd but I really wish a floating vertical transport bar are existed thanks all right so let's see if we come over here so we can have this floating so this obviously horizontal but let me just sometimes yeah I think it's going to be horizontal but um yeah I'll pass that along so let's jump to some of the questions that were mailed in before we run out of time thanks for everyone for all the great questions you want to mail questions in advance you always send it to Club cuas at Steinberg dode let me open up my word document here okay so we had a question um how to make disabled tracks invisible in a project and mix console so let's say we have three tracks here one this track here is disabled so when it's disabled maybe I just want to automatically hide the disabled track so how can we do that so let's come over to the project logical editor and we'll go to our setup so what we want to do is we're going to take a kind of an interesting approach we're going to select tracks that are disabled so we're going to say our container type is equal to a track and we're going to set our property to property is set to track is disabled so right now what we're going to do is to select disabled tracks okay so let's say we have we see our track selection here and then what we want to do is a post process and we go to our Channel invisibility Channel track visibility and we'll say hide selected channels okay so right now let's say we have these tracks selected uh so I'm going to tell to select tracks that are disabled and then hide those selected tracks so we come right over here hit apply and now those tracks are hidden from our project window as well as our mix console so once again select container type is equal to track property property is set to is disabled so we're selecting the disabled tracks and then hiding the disabled tracks okay question hello Greg my project in QB 13 in my M1 is 24 bit 44.1 I go out to an analog summing device and then to an ad to converter and back to qbase to create my print track if I set up my ad converter to a higher sample rate let's say 192 can I record back into the same project on or is my only option 44.1 same as my project could I open wave laab and use wave lab as a at a higher sample rate can cubas and wave lab be in sync so the starting time is the same so generally your audio interface isn't going to run at 44.1 1 and 192 so you would need to have two separate audio interfaces and even if you could do a print track back into wave laab if you wanted to recapture it at 192k but you know no audio interface is going to be running that I know of can run at 44 can run at two different sample rates at the same time especially if it's not like divisible easily like you might be able to do 88.2 and 44.1 for clocks or 96 and 48k for clocks but if you're kind of printing out uh and recapturing at 192k so you're probably not actually gaining much by doing that I mean you may have a coloration of the conversion uh it could be arguable if using kind of summing some people would argue that you know using summing you know just sounds different but it's not necessarily better there's a really interesting Dan waral video on it uh that he posted recently that I thought was really good and well done but you would need to have a separate program running a separate audio interface so that but you could do it in wave laab and capture but it's not going to be in sync uh wavelab doesn't sync to external time code uh you could you know run a different you know if you had qbase you know if you have qbase um Pro you could run qbase artist and run you know I think if you hold down certain Keys when you start qbas Pro you might be able to start qase artist as well and if you're using a different audio interface be able to capture higher sample rate audio that way but it's you know it's you know generally you're going to need two different audio interfaces for that all right another question in the bottom of my mix console there's a slider that could click and drag left or right so if I have a project with a lot of tracks I can select the area that I want to work however for some reason right now when I move the slider the tracks do not move it is always showing the same tracks if I use G or and H it does zoom in and out but shows only the same tracks can you help me with this problem so either when we look at this you know it could be that all you have is enough tracks to populate the particular areas or tracks can be hidden from view in the invisibility so if we come over here and just hide tracks you know we may not see a lot of you may not be able to scroll because there's nothing to scroll to so make sure that when you're doing the mixer visibility that these particular tracks aren't being filtered out from view in the mix console but it sounds like maybe there's you know like you don't have enough tracks if you're like in the mix console and you're zooming in and out here you could do the typical g&h Zoom but if it's not showing the r tracks either they're being hidden or perhaps you don't have enough tracks to Warrant being able to scroll back and forth like you're seeing all the tracks that are available that would be my guess okay so we have a question I'm going to Max this I'm using the latest version of QB 13 Pro Let Me Clear My Throat is there a way to link the group fader to the track sends uh if I have tracks within the group that are sending to effects tracks when I lower the group volume the balance between wet and dry is changed for the tracks within that group uh the default behavior on many other Daws is that those sends within the group follows for the group fader is there a way to do this in qbase if not what would you recommend so you could do this but you know this is kind of a classic scenario like this is how groups behave and it's kind of mimicking the workflow of different consoles so let's say if we have a uh we'll just listen to let's say a loop and we have this going into like a Reverb here and now that we adjust let's say our so say this is going we'll route this to a group all right so let's just come over here let's just change our all right so we'll come over I'll just open up the channel view here quickly so we have this going to our groups uh to our effects let's go to our effects [Music] send all right all right and I'll just put this on so it's a little louder here all right so you know generally what you'd want to do instead of when you're using effects going into a group is instead of sending it to a group because the group will you know it will affect the gain structure that's when you want to send the track to a VCA fader so now that when you adjust the VCA fader that won't affect the balance of the particular drums to the effects ratio so that's generally the preferred method for utilizing that and it could also depend on if your send for the truck is going into a you know is preader or post fader but generally vcas will allow you to adjust that and not affect the gain structure relationship so when you're sending it to a group you and you're lowering the volume that will affect the gain structure um so sometimes you want to do that sometimes you don't and sometimes you want to use VCA faders so that the gain structure isn't affected okay so we had a question [Music] on I need to find a way to prevent cutting through all of the audio clips that overlap on the same track uh opposed to only cutting the top track that shows I could do this uh in my older versions of nendo 4 and qas 5 but it cuts through all the Clips in my qbas 8 Pro and newer software I can't find a way to have this option okay so right now we have three different audio files on top stacked on top of each other so we have a green file a red file and a blue file so when I used a scissors tool to cut this will cut the files underneath so when I move this just so we cut and now when I move this the red is cut at the same level so that's cut through all of the layers so if we don't want to cut through the layers we can move the cursor where we want it and we got to edit and I think it's under functions and we could say split at cursor so now that we've split at the cursor I'm going to select the event so we got edit functions split at cursor and now that we split at the cursor and we've split the top layer the bottom layers aren't going to be cut so we'll just redo this to where we were so top layer split at cursor Now we move this and you can see that the other layers aren't cut so try doing a split at cursor all right so we had a question um of is there a way to have volume automation bounce back to the or oral level without having to set an automation point at the end all right so not really because you know if we think about it like if you move a fader the fader is going to stay in the same position until you actually tell it to go somewhere else but there's no value for the fader to actually return to so if I'm taking this particular track and we're automating so let say I would take this track and I Auto made it and I move the fader the fader will stay at that value because there is no point to return to so I do so you know if we didn't have an end point here we could just come over and say okay we do this and now we automate and I want this to be just a little louder do a bump let's say we do it here and now it will return because we told you've given it a value to return to now another easy way of just approaching this from an editing perspective is just to grab the range tool and then you could increase or decrease sections very easily like so but again if there's no point known you know how does qbase know exactly where to return to if there's no value that's been defined it's like giving you know it's like giving directions where you don't necessarily you know giving someone directions and not giving them the end of where to go all right so we have a question I've been having problems with qbase recently where if I leave a blank project open it will it will freeze or get really slow sometimes taking 10 seconds to open a menu or click on anything just happened even with little to no plugins or vsti or V STS loaded so two things that this could be it could be that some USB devices that are being powered don't wake up from being asleep so if you've left um if you are on Windows make sure you go into your bios and that your none of your USB ports are set to be in Energy Efficiency mode or in eco mode so sometimes USB power won't fully wake up that sounds like this could be it in some plugins after a while if it's just sitting idle idle may actually create memory leaks um while they're not doing anything so it could be a you know even with a few plugins one plugin open could be creating a memory leak that the longer you leave it open the more memory it's kind of eating up so try to do it see if you get different Behavior if absolutely no plugins are loaded um I don't have that behavior on my syst system and also make sure that you don't have any um you know like unpowered hubs or like USB hubs that are or USB ports that are you like in Energy Efficiency mode okay so have a question uh I have a couple questions for your live stream one how do you move the sample folder to another drive without any risk of affecting any of the current qbase 13 Pro projects on Windows 10 so the easiest way and this could be different for every company but if it's like for the media and samples that come with qbase all you'd have to do is go to and you'll have a Steinberg Library manager that's installed you can select multiple files here whether it's your hien groove agent qbase Loop sets the grand pad shop retro log backbone all these presets all the content you could select them and then click on move and it'll ask you what folder you want to move it to and then all the content that comes with qbase can then be moved to new location and all the links to where qbase looks for those files in other projects will immediately go to that location so it's kind of the conduit for that another question I forgot to humanize my drums Superior drummer when they were still midi anyway I could do this now when they're all converted to audio okay so let's say we have some drums here I will open up see if I so open up our folder so let's say we have our midi drums here and we will let's say we're listening to the audio recording now so we've rendered these as audio so if we wanted to apply like a swing to those I'm going to select the particular files we'll come over to my edit menu let's go to the quantize panel I'm going to choose Let's uh make this to eth notes and let's put a heavy swing on it so and then we're going to make sure that we have audio warp selected so now when I hit quantize our audio all the audio will be moved so we can now listen to the S it being straight so before and now with this swing so you could just quantize a bit select the events and just hit audio warp right there okay so we have a question I tried to cord track for lead sheet and I always get a crash when I use different versions of the same project if only one wave file and I cannot get the chords to reveal on lead sheet as well then on repeating the process I could not get Advanced show chords is gray out sorry to bother and and I see cancel I did get the chord tractor revealed just could not get my locators crash dump with issue so sometimes if you're doing the automatic chord let's say I have my guitar part here and we'll listen to the [Music] guitar all right so if I want to do this so one of the things we can do is just select the event and in earlier versions there was an issue where if there was a chord track already and you tried to create chords from the event from the project menu it it there was sometimes when that could cause a crash and I think that was resolved in 1302 but if I come over here let's say I want to go to uh my chords cord track and we'll say create chord events and now as I do that that we see the cord events here and if we add a midi track we could now see I'll just come right over here let's go to MIDI track double click and we go to our score editor and now that we have this we'll just say Advanced layout show chord track and we'll look at this in page mode and then you could have your lead sheet so if you have a cord track try to if you have cord track events try to select all the events events and erase them um if you have an earlier version okay okay so we had a question uh when empty trash is used in the pools there a way to have those files moved to the computer's recycle bin instead of just disappearing all together thank you so currently when you empty the trash um and this is going to be in the pool so if we record it a file so let's say if I'm here and I just hit [Music] record all right so we're going to have a file called delete me so as we look at this we have this particular file so and if we choose to erase that file that file if we go to our pool window is then moved to the trash and if we empty our trash crash here at this point that will be deleted from the hard disk as opposed to going into your recycle bin if you want it to take this and move it to your trash let's see if we could just drag to the trash can you might be able to you might be able to try that but you could you know just come over here but when you do this there isn't a function to move it to like a third safety mechanism when you now if we right click on the trash it's not going to put it into the trash can or the recycle bin on Windows but when we empty the trash it's going to delete it from the hard disk um so if you want to erase or you could remove it from the pool it'll still be in the project folder um but it could be hard to determine which files are not in the project folder so when you hit erase that will erase it from the hard drive and not go into the uh recycle bin all right so we have question uh is there a quick way to swap between different IO interfaces on qbas Pro 13 so that a song recorded with interface a can play or receive new audio via a different IO interface so so if you want to you know andise a disc could be there could be a lot of consequences with you know if you have routings that are done with different songs but what I would do if you have like a mobile and like a home interface is when you have your inputs and outputs defined is to save it as a preset so you could say this is my mobile interface ins my mobile interface outs and this is my studio ins Studio outs and then you could just recall those as presets all right question can cuase be routed to temporarily use native laptop speakers and Hardware to play existing projects and record new audio Al be it at lower resolution so you know sometimes the audio may not work depending like a lot of um depending on your computer sometimes they don't have uh audio inputs but if you go to like your studio setup and go to your audio system if you're on Windows you could choose generic loow latency or Steinberg AO driver and that would allow you to use the built-in audio Hardware on a laptop and you may have to once you go over here go to the control panel and realize that you may see your HDMI your headphone jack may be separate than the line output you may have to do the routing of where you want the audio to go to the speakers as opposed to headphones in the control panel setup all right I think that's it for questions let me just jump back to our live stream live question see if there's a quick one we can get in real quick before we wrap up all right see if there's one more quick question I guess we might be just about out of time so I guess we will go ahead and wrap up we'll get to more questions on the live stream on Friday so again starting at 1 pm us eastern time I appreciate everyone taking time out of their day to learn more
