hello friends so today we are going to learn how we can apply patch on our vcenter so like in my case i am running on vcenter 6.5 and the build version is 830721 this is 6.5 update 2 and i want to take it to the latest patch available for 6.5 update 2 so how i can do that so first thing i need to do is to download the patch that i need to apply on the suite center so in order to download it go in google and type download vcss 6.5 patch the first link that will come is vmware patch you need to uh log in with your vmware credentials so once you are logged in you will get list of patches for the vcenters so as you can see here like for six or five update one let me pick the one that i'm using first okay so i'm i'm running vcenter version 605 update too okay here it is update to appliance patch it's running on this version and since it's update 2 i want to take it to the latest version so i want to download the patch available the latest patch available for update 2 so let me so here it is update 2h and after that you have a big tree so let's i need to take it to update to it so if i need to apply this patch i need to download this so make sure the one that you're downloading it ends with patch fp.iso so this is basically a complete iso image for the vcenter which needs means like if you download this so in order to upgrade it uh this is all together different version you need to mount it and go with the upgrade upgrade process but the patch means when you're using a patch so you can apply that patch using vmware appliance management console that we'll be seeing in this video so i have downloaded this patch so so once this patch is downloaded the first thing that you need to do is you have to upload it somewhere on your data source so that you can mount it as an iso on the vcenter so i have already downloaded it just to save the time so it's there if it's here this is the one and i have uploaded it to one of my data store so now the next thing that i need to do is i need to first mount it on my vcenter but before that i have some old snapshots that i need to delete because i will be taking a fresh snapshot okay i'm going to recent tasks so snapshots are being deleted so let's wait for a couple of minutes for the snapshot to delete okay so the snapshot has been deleted so so i will be taking a new snapshot before going for an upgrade so this is recommended so in case during an upgrade uh you face any issue so it is always good to have a rollback plan so let's take a snapshot so we don't need this option means uh without this is enough like this will help us in rolling back okay so the snapshot is completed so the next step that i need to do is to mount that patch that i've downloaded as an iso on the cd rom so edit settings so that we center okay and go in the cd rom data source iso file browse to that location for me it is under patch and it is with the name okay so this is the patch 138 it ends with patch fp.iso okay connect it okay so now once you are done with mounting the iso the next thing is you need to open the management control of the vcenter so the management console is nothing else that is the vcenter ip followed by the port number 5480 where you need to log in as root okay so i'm logged in everything looks good else it is good go under update so this will tell you the current version of your vcenter so now and click on check updates and check for cd rom so the reason why i see the room is because uh we have mounted iso as a cd-rom so now you see you can see here like it is showing you the current version the version available in cd-rom so once this is done go under install update and install cd rom update you have to accept the license click yes no need to join it it's up to you next so now the date has started so it is going to take around 15 to 20 minutes during this time window it is going to reboot the vcenter once so it's always good to have a downtime means while doing such kind of upgrades so the whole process will take around one to one and a half hour downloading guys so uploading it so plan your maintenance window accordingly so i'm pausing the video because it is going to take next 10 15 minutes so once it will reach to 90 or so we will resume it so the update has been finished so if you can see here click on i will click on check updates so so install completed so the next thing that we need to do is reboot the vcenter so go on somebody page click on reboot and click yes so the vcenter has been rebooted it will take couple of minutes for all its services to come up so let's wait for a few minutes i'll pause the video so once the recent will come up will verify whether we have the latest patch available on on it or not so the vcenter is up so let's see what also is still pending so still there are multiple services which are pending so let's wait for a couple of more minutes okay so all the services has been started there's nothing pending to start so let's go back to our vcenter and see the status okay so it always takes some time when you upgrade or apply patch on the vcenter so this is only for the first time okay nice okay so yeah so i'm and now let me see [Music] till there is an alarm cpu usage i'll go for increase of cpu okay so here we can see the version of vcenter has been upgraded the patch has been successfully applied thank you
