Appalachian Trail 2023 Part 2: Wesser Bald and Fontana

okay we are back at teleco Gap with all of the pretties and we're gonna go up up up up for just a couple miles and then we'll be done for the day we got a short a short hike up to see a pretty and we might hike let's just camp at the pretty or we might go down to the uh shelter let's see how we feel when we get to the pretty laughs first glimpse of Western Tower gotta climb a little bit for it oh wesser bald Tower we're gonna climb that in a few but there's just a few steps up thinking about sleeping here tonight but that up there in the Wind is the only sleepable spot this rock it's not really there are 14 people from a church group up there now all of a sudden they beat us up there we're still trying to decide whether to hike up there with our gear or just ourselves thank you that's pretty crazy yeah the outer friends of his work thank you [Music] over there sunset are you having fun this is a good look for you mountains in the background we're a head thing makes the sky look Bluer Than it is are you gonna get up and look around at all are you gonna stay right there it looks like the cloud is doing like a husband thumbs up something that is in a position very scary and get it so we can camp up here oh ginormous scared of beetles up here you're going a lot dude I'm up because I ever slept on top of a tower before oh man yet like she played here thank you actually from really early age just shows the love of Jesus [Laughter] getting ready to go to bed on top of Western Tower which group just left it's very quiet up here we're gonna have no problem hearing the mouse dragging the rifle through our stuff left our bear canister downstairs but we both had a couple of snacks plus there was the foil from the burritos that we got from the church group that Sun's starting to come up and there is clouds underneath this can't pick them up on the video yet no sirens Just Wind now right there it was worth sleeping in a cloud for foreign monster I can't get the video to pick it up the way that my eyes are seeing it put the tiny amount of food we had inside this pot upside down with stuff stuffed in it to see if we could keep the mouse out of it because it's a long way down we may have lost a little bit of food to the mouse about to find out the peanut butter crackers and the Propel survive the mouse attack the peanuts did not and we have some foil scrapings to clean up before we leave this is our bedroom for the night not there it comes good morning sunshine did I really tall mountain right there that is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Clingmans Dome I don't know if we're gonna get there this trip but there it is okay it's time to say goodbye to the best if not bedroom ever we're gonna move on head out and go get water and find that pretty one last look look point the people who come around and do this stuff deserve Awards somebody made a whole like bath station here this is so cool thank you for the sign or we would have missed that beautiful Oasis filled ominous this may be the first time I've seen bare cables in North Carolina all right we slept in a much better place I'm glad that we chose that there's two privies down there I wonder if both of them are working it looks like there's oh that's like an old uh Outhouse style that's what I think is going on there and this is a newer one two pots nice let me switch the one over and the other one gets full I guess foreign guys have a habit of trying to get squished on the trail go little guy go go go that's true it's just Rex going no yeah pretty now what we're not going back around I rode with a little road or ziggans through it let's move it out can't go over it can't go under it can't go around it gotta break through it like dirty little flowers and there's the glorious because Morgan shelter one mile south of the NOC uphill we left the rain pants here and there's a pretty moth right there on that piece of garbage there's somebody else left here [Applause] thank you big river crossing here I hear the NOC from here people having fun and stuff we're almost there yes closing out the NOC hey B made it back to Lucky we are on charge day uh or on charge day and laundry day so we came up to Fontana and then we were gonna get a shuttle and then just hike to the car I think we're gonna do it the other way around now that we're out here we might just like backwards and get back to the knock and then get a shuttle coming here so we're going to pack up for four days worth of food and we will be setting back off onto the trail tomorrow morning [Music] I'm going to do you get to sign a lot of these sections this is I've never seen anything like this before I mean I have seen things like it but not this somebody gave it to us and that'll fill the whole so it depends I fill this one in mine and uh Mama Bear here needs about one and a half oh that's so cool so if you were over here you'd see that this is a composite it's foam and air so the little the whole thing is popping out as it pumps the air inside the tube you mean you can see where it's connected to the truth and for now she's just holding it on because we don't have an adapter for it but it works I mean it never occurred to me you could just do this with two people without you're probably gonna get a special attachment blowing up our um our tubes what is the word you can noodles we are gonna sleep tonight at the Visitor Center for Fontana there's showers and bathrooms right here and there's lucky so we decided to opt for being close to the bathrooms tonight and then we can drive to wherever we're gonna drop off which I think we're gonna go in at the marina um and then there will be a little bit less up tomorrow to start with because it's a pretty big up it's over here y'all something you don't see very often not only do you not see a phone booth very often there's like a phone book thing hanging from it was strange if there's actually a book in there there's no phone that's just the container just memories there's a little Dam here and then they've got these this electric car charge port with uh solar I really think of a lot of things here there's rocking chairs where we can sit and sit some more and a table for breakfast rash and more bathrooms and a whole sign about the Appalachian Trail [Music] thank you it was an accident I didn't mean to slam it all right let's see here we walked oh this messy bit is where we are now must be a whole bunch of people pointing at it so we've done that much of the at so far every single sewer says no dumping drains to River
