Not the news I wanted to wake up to before a big interview. I'll have some In-N-Out today in your honor, Tony.

His was the only food show I enjoyed eat watching because he made every cuisine be not only about this ingredients, but about culture, history, politics etc. So very sad. May he rest in peace, and even more so, may his family find strength.

Shattered, I adored his insights and talents. But as a survivor of suicide, I pray for comfort and strength to those left behind. The survivors his daughter, his family and friends. There is just no words.

RIP.

So sad. I loved reading and listening to what he had to say. He was always exploring amazing food and cultures.

I don’t get to hung up on celebrity deaths, but this one really, really bites.

Anthony Bourdain kinda saved my life a little. I had a very, very unusual health issue where my intestines stopped functioning after some surgeries. I was on TPN and IV hydration for two months. Nobody knew if my colon would kick in and/or what I should do.

Most of you probably have not skipped eating or drinking for two months. I can’t really explain the psychology behind it, but for some reason, I was absolutely transfixed with food tv. Anthony Bourdain was my main watch.

This will sound like nonsense here is this thread, but I am certain watching those shows is what woke my intestines. I had a colostomy bag at the time, and I know the moment they started working. Guess what I was watching when the shit hit the bag?

I’m going to go cry for a bit.....

I am witnessing something sort of incredible in my twitter feed. Political advisors like Ben Rhodes, crediting him for his spotlight on unexploded ordinance in Laos or reporters like Matt Pearce talking about how forthright he was about the metoo movement, to the extent he reflected on his role in it, and frankly too. To comedians like Tom Segura praising his writing and personality. To wonderful little stories of what a character he was, or the countless stories of how he affected people.

He, without a trace of irony, can rightly be said to affect people around the world and all walks of life.

The guy's work was essentially three things, people: Write a tell all on kitchens, host a couple of travel shows and became something of a TV personality (that is to take nothing away from the fact that he was a Dad, I'm just saying it's not what he's known for)

I think he resonated so much because he was genuine, passionate, caring, open-minded, frank and humble. There are countless stories of his amiable, anything-goes personality.

His death reminds me of Anton Yelchin or Bill Pullman Paxton in that when they died I didn't realize how much I liked their work and never properly appreciated it. Moreover, it was the seed of the thought that occurred to me this morning.

So why did I write all that?

He showed how you can do inspiring things by simply being humble if frank, imperfect yet sincere. This from a man who used to dig paint chips out of carpet and smoke them on the off chance it was crack.

If that is not a shut and seal case for the ability for those of us who have truly hit rock bottom to do great, inspiring things I am truly bothered by what the standard is.

This is devastating. This man was great for promoting understanding and tolerance by exposing different cultures and food to so many people. This man's job was to live a lifestyle that a lot of people desire and this really shows how serious depression is. Please seek help for yourself or your loved ones if you have concerns about your / their mental health.

Fuck. I'm so crushed.

He was the one who really inspired me to love life in this city, to go out and chase it and treasure it and enjoy it. RIP
