on today's tea time with Jennifer I am answering your questions from Instagram welcome back to the daily connoisseur I'm so excited to have another tea time with Jennifer video for you today I am drinking Earl Grey tea out of this beautiful china tea cup and my mother-in-law gave me this isn't it gorgeous this is Royal Albert owned China and I mean doesn't it just make having tea so much nicer when you drink it out of a lovely cup so I'm having some Earl Grey what are you having today I'm going to put this behind me I was not sure what topic to do for tea time with Jennifer so I actually asked you on Instagram and Facebook and I received a lot of comments so today I'm going to try to go through almost all of them before we begin I would like to announce that I have a sponsor for this video today I love my sponsors and I appreciate them so much they help to keep my channel going and allow me to do as many videos as I do and I try to choose sponsors that would be of interest to you so today's sponsor I'm going to tell you about them quickly and then we'll jump into the video today's sponsor is Skillshare which is an online community that has over 25,000 classes for people looking to learn a skill they have design they have illustration they even have business and technology they have writing classes it's so neat so you know how I'm always talking about cultivating your mind refusing to be dumbed down learning a skill keeping sharp this is the perfect website for that because you could literally take a class in almost anything that you want to learn and it's so much affordable than traditional classes their memberships start at less than $10 a month if you use my link below you get two free months of Skillshare premium and that's for the first 500 people who sign up with the link also something to consider if you yourself have a skill that you are you know really good at you could be a teacher on Skillshare and have your own course and you could earn money through skill share through being a teacher on it so I'm going to leave their information below it's a great resource just in line with my philosophy of refusing to be dumbed down cultivating a skill and learning something new which is so exciting so thank you so much to Skillshare for sponsoring today's video okay so let's get right into your questions on Instagram I am going to try to go through them really quickly so I'm not going to do detailed long responses I just want to try to get to everybody because the thing is is that they weren't themed they were so different and I thought how can I just choose one of these when there's so many so let's get right into it reading in garden writes any tips on how to get over the FOMO one can experience when we've been addicted to social media for so long but so for those of you who don't know what FOMO means that means fear of missing out FOMO okay yes FOMO is a real thing and when I first started using social media like Twitter and even Facebook I was overwhelmed that I thought I had to constantly go on the social media or I was going to miss something I was going to miss something that one of my friends posted or just miss I don't know I don't know what I had the FOMO basically and that is a thing that you actually do have to get over I think that social media has changed the way that we think and the way that we process things the way we look at the world and you have to consciously step away from it and consciously not care about missing out on things you know if you're not a part of it so something that I talk about a lot with my personal facebook page because I don't post that much on it I realized that whenever a birthday of one of my children came up or first day of school or Christmas or something I actually did have the FOMO of missing out on that of showing my family at Christmas or Easter or whatever it was because what what are we doing that for let's be honest we're doing it to kind of show off a bit right and I and I know that people also do it because you have family who live far away and it's nice for them to see your kids but really you could just send them a picture over text message you don't really need to show it to 400 friends on Facebook right so it is there is a little bit in there of look at me and look at my amazing life and look at my beautiful children so it's it's just about stepping away from that and I haven't really posted much on my site just because I'm I'm trying to get away from the FOMO I don't want fear of missing out it people don't need to see my children every time they have a birthday you know my close family can see them and you know we email pictures to the grandparents that type of thing and I remember I talked about this before it was the 4th of July and I was watching a beautiful fireworks display and I was going as grappling in my mind about should I take a picture of the firework so that I could share it on Facebook or Instagram and and I thought what am i doing can I just sit here and enjoy the firework show you know I really hate how social media has changed the way we think and we feel like we need to share things with people and show off and you know look look at me look what I'm doing so it's just a delicate balance I use social media obviously because I use it for my work but I think if I didn't use it for my work I probably wouldn't use it very much so my advice for that is to just stop cold turkey for a while you know you don't have to post the picture of your child at every milestone you just don't so I wouldn't do it okay erik lora Oh ate Wright's favorite books so many people mirrored that they would like to see a list of my favorite books so I've been meaning to tell you this but I started an amazon page so many people were asking for this and it's so convenient has all my recommendations so I have a whole section on books my favorite books my favorite mysteries the ones I've actually read I like to read and I will link that below so you could just scroll through that and see I've mentioned my favorite books so many times on the channel I won't go through them all here if you'd like a separate video about that I could do it but I did want to leave you that link below where you could check it out and just you know all of my favorites the things that I recommend on the blog it's there so that you don't have to ask me I get so many emails saying Jennifer where did you mention this or that and I don't have the time to reply to all of them so it's nice to have it all in one area for those of you who don't know I love mysteries and I primarily read mysteries I do venture out and read other things as well so I have all of those books listed in my Amazon page if you're interested a few people asked how to deal with and tolerate uncouth people that might be for an etiquette video with Ben but you know my advice is always that you can only control yourself you yourself can be an example you yourself can keep your side of the street clean I like that expression and you just have to have grace for everybody else and that's that's the short answer for that one Julie Carnes asks for hostess gifts to have on hand complete with packaging I do think it's important to have a few gifts on hand even if you don't have anything to go to because sometimes you have a last-minute invitation and it's nice to just choose something so candles I actually have a feature coming up on natural home with Jennifer about the best natural candles of 2019 I'm excited for that one so candles would be a good one you know chocolates or fancy nuts or just some sort of small present you could wrap it and keep it in your pantry and then if you have a hostess party you could bring it I also like to bring people real orchids and you know of course flowers are nice too but that's very standard so I do like candles fancy foods or you could bake them something you could make a banana bread you can even bake a bunch of little mini cakes keep them in your freezer and then take them out to thaw them to give to the hostess that's a really good idea as well I could do a separate video on that one day - Caroline Kay says ways to handle or react to someone who holds the conversation I'm not sure what you mean by that if you mean someone who won't stop talking or if you're trying to hold the conversation together yes it's always when you're with someone who won't stop talking you know you just have to get that polite excuse me in there somewhere to excuse yourself a few if you have to go away Aaron writes I'd love to hear about your experiences learning the French language or if you speak it or if you have any plans to pick it back up so I minored in French in college I majored in theatre minored in French and I started studying it in college I recommend that you know you study languages when you're younger I had terrible grammar you know I could definitely speak French well and many French people told me that I had a great French accent so that's nice to know I was really self-conscious and I thought what if I have this awful accent and they have to listen to me for six months you know but they always complimented me on my accent and I tried to mimic the inflections that I needed to mimic but my grammar was pretty terrible and I remember you know on one of the first nights that I lived with Madame chic I I had just taken I think only three semesters of French I did not know much French at all when I lived with them and I declared after dinner I said there's just sweet finis and I thought I was saying I am finished but I said I is finished because in French its je fini I have finished so anyway I just pronounced just sweet finis and I did it with a lot of gusto and they all burst out into laughter because they couldn't help themselves and I don't blame them so yes I'm not the best at French grammar in fact I'm very self-conscious about it but you know I could take a class maybe on it to pick it back up I never speak it nobody speaks it over here but I could you know say a sentence let me think what can I say bonjour je m'appelle Jennifer a Bienvenue other daily connoisseur okay being artful asks how to make small talk and good conversation starters I have a book coming out in July called connoisseur kids yes it's coming out in July I can't believe it and I have a whole thing on dinner conversation with kids and I have a bunch of conversation starters there and you know you could just have a few in your arsenal that you just have in your head that you could bring up to people when you are engaged in small talk you know it's always helpful to ask people about themselves people love talking about themselves so you could just ask a new person a new acquaintance questions about themselves where they grew up you know what they're interested in what books they've read lately all of that is really good for conversation starters Kyla m4l asks I'd love for you to do one on weddings I'm interested to hear about your wedding budgeting for a wedding choosing it down etc etiquette at a wedding in a digital age and what's appropriate to wear to a wedding is it okay to wear white or black okay so this is a huge topic again these are all huge topics but my advice for a wedding and I have spoken about this in my sheet financial principles for debt free living eCourse I talked about this a lot I think that the wedding culture in America and probably beyond has gone way overboard and people are spending so much money on their wet and they're going into debt over it which i think is not a good idea it's not good to start your marriage that way so I recommend tuning out all of the noise about what you think you need you know the cotton candy machine and the chocolate fountain or whatever people are getting these days and just plan a simple wedding that you can afford if you have parents that are contributing to the cost that is such a blessing use their money wisely Ben's parents and my parents both contributed to our wedding we had a very small wedding I think they're only 40 people in attendance and it was on a Monday and so we kept things very simple we didn't want to be outrageous with the cost and that is it I haven't shared my wedding picture online and it's funny it's things that are deeply personal to me I don't share it I do have some mean kind of trolls that watch my videos and I don't like to put things that mean a lot to me out there because someone can just say a comment that you know would bother me so I do keep certain things private I have not shared my wedding picture but who knows maybe one day I will share it but I had a beautiful gown and yes is it okay to wear white or black I think the rules on everything with regard to style are changing now so I would say that yes although I wouldn't I would personally wear a color a beautiful color to a wedding so that's my advice J a horth writes I'd love to know about where you get your artwork for your home okay so most of the artwork for our home is from eBay and eBay is a wonderful resource for original artwork and I get a lot of antique art from eBay and you I get some of them at a steel and you'd be amazed you know and the bidding is quite it can be stressful but as long as you're not too attached to something so I will leave links below but I get a lot of our antique art from eBay there's also an artist on eBay that I really like and his davis Jose true hello and he produces so many paintings he's very talented and his work can be very affordable if you get in and you know I think I have a beautiful peony painting and I think I only paid about twenty-five dollars for it and it's gorgeous so I will leave his information below he's wonderful he's behind me belonged to my great-grandmother and there's two of these and my my daughter has the other one in her room I have another one here that says gracefully declining invitations to MLM parties that your friends and co-workers throw so MLM parties are multi level marketing parties you know where you're expected to buy something and I would just gracefully decline as long as you know you know that's what it is and you're not interested I would just you know just decline the invitation like you would any other invitation but if somebody's repeatedly coming to you asking you to buy something then you might have to get more specific and say I'm sorry it's not in my budget right now I'm very big on that if you don't have the budget for something don't worry about disappointing people and you know you don't need to please everybody okay it's your budget and life is expensive so just decline there okay I have another one here asking about how to avoid gossiping if that's a struggle for you you know just be aware of it whenever you start or whenever you're in a group or amongst other people who are doing it and remove yourself from the group okay that's probably the best thing to do do you have any advice for college students and young people how to stay chic with assignments housing problems and dating Thanks okay that's a whole other that's a whole other video but my advice to young people is this do not be swayed by peer pressure that is so hard okay because there's a whole culture at college it's like a partying culture and mindset culture people might all think the same way you might think differently that's okay it's good to think differently just don't get too wrapped up in people pleasing and trying to fit in with your peer group if you need to find new friends or find something try to look for classes on campus or courses or groups on campus that align with what you like and try to find friends that way okay embellished Coco she has a great Instagram by the way she writes how to handle it gracefully when your kids talk back to you oh that's a hard one I always just quote honor your father and your mother when white kids talk back to me so they don't do it that much they really don't but if they talk back to me I give them a look like a shocked look you know and that really makes them pause and then I say you know you're supposed to honor your father and your mother and please don't talk to me like that and that usually works with them cat coaster writes favorite baby items again that's in my Amazon store I list everything that I have personally used with my children and I have four children and I know now what I need and you don't need all that extra stuff so I actually even have my stroller and car seat system that I use linked there and I went through awful ones with my first three children I hated the stroller and the car seat for all of them for this one for this fourth baby I love it so I've linked the one that I used in there and I'll leave that below Jane turn balancing it all and staying chic well I do not balance at all I just do my best and you can do your best too and staying chic is I think staying true to your style and not letting yourself go basically what it is is taking care of yourself mentally spiritually physically appearance-wise it's that's how you stay chic I think just don't let yourself go hey Melissa writes it seems like many people have very strong opinions thoughts beliefs about well anything and everything from vaccines to politics to religion etc how can we graciously respond to those we don't agree with if asked our thoughts so I find that on controversial issues there are two types of people the type of people who have no tolerance for anybody else's opinion and they'll kind of like talk you down shout you down shut you down because they don't want to hear any please opinion who differs with theirs and theirs the type of people who are too afraid to speak up okay do you notice this I mean on Facebook there's people who'll just blatantly say you know what they think about some hot pressing political topic and then there's the people who read it and they think I disagree with that but they would never say anything if you are faced with someone with very strong beliefs who's kind of in your face about it if you choose to tell them your position about it just be very calm and calmness always is a sign of maturity so I would just try to remain calm barren Cubs right social media and screen time etiquette and ethics for parents my children are not on social media and we do allow them screen time but not much and never at night so they're always reading at night and my two daughters they can both read now I'm so excited you know we homeschool our kids and I just taught my youngest daughter how to read and she is like taken off she is just burning through chapter books and I love it I'm so happy it's wonderful when they learn how to read so I would encourage reading over social media and over screen time for sure day with Danny right so you always seem so well put together how do you plan your days do you use a planner time blocking make lists etc I do use a plan and talk about that in my how to be efficient video which I will leave below and by the way I have a new eCourse that's coming out and I believe I'm debuting it next week I'm just putting the finishing touches on it now and it's called how to be efficient at home you're going to love it so but yes I do plan my day and I do I do block my day as well so I could do a separate video on that if you are interested my damn vanilla writes how to find like-minded people who also aspire to live a chic life and want to cultivate their minds and refuse to be dumbed down I have the feeling that with many people the usual conversation topics are Netflix series gossiping in addition people cannot listen anymore and only wait for their turn not everyone of course but I really noticed it in the last couple of months I sometimes feel like an alien who likes classical music looking presentable arts and piano music but I just refuse to be done down and I want to be Who I am oh I love you you sound like a kindred spirit and the nice thing is with this online community is that almost everybody here agrees with you we're all like-minded and you'll find friends you know you can just try to find local groups or book clubs or just women you know that think like you and that is very important to have friends like that that at least you can rejoice in this online community that we have and perhaps connect with each other in the comments section that would be nice and I know a lot of you actually do that do you plan your day have you got a routine with groceries cleaning and laundry yes I talk about all of this in my upcoming efficiency series but I can do a separate video on that that's too long to get into here ask this question on Facebook as well and a lot of people wanted to hear about this I'd love a tee time on your faith I don't talk about it that much but I think most of you know that I am a Christian and my faith drives pretty much everything that I do and it's something that's very important to me so I don't talk about it too much because oh no some people get really mad when I talk about which I don't understand because I'm thinking if you like somebody don't you want to know more about what drives them but anyway that is that's that and I have one here that says I would like a tee time on gray hair is it chic at late 30s and early 40s I think it is if you want it to be for so many women who look beautiful with gray hair you've got to see my friend Laurie's channel she has a channel called pride in photos beauty I'm gonna link her channel below laurie is beautiful and she has gray hair and she looks fantastic so it's just up to you I feel like if I I don't have any gray hair I don't dye my hair as of yet I have told myself that I will start dyeing my hair when I get gray hair but who knows it at a certain age I'm just probably going to get that up and just have the gray hair and still look chic hopefully okay and the final question I was asked was who was my best dressed for the Oscars this year I did not watch the Oscars this year I didn't even watch the red carpet I know bad but I did see Marie Kondo at the Oscars and I thought that she was the best dress I did see some of the dresses and the articles the following day and I thought a lot of them were not good but Marie Kondo she's in Jenny Packham she looks amazing her dress sparks joy she looks beautiful and she is my best dressed for the Oscars this year for 2019 I would love to know who your best dressed was too now my teas gone cold I've been talking too much but thank you so much for joining me today on this episode of tea time with Jennifer I would love to hear all of your thoughts on everything I discussed below also I want to thank Skillshare for sponsoring today's video don't forget to check out their one full online learning community below and you might just find
