at least six times per day someone comes to our live stream to ask my opinion on withering waves so I want to lay out my thoughts on the game that's getting tons of hype especially from gench and impact players hey everyone shart here to let you know about withering waves because so many people are really excited about the game but there are also so many that are wondering if it's worth their time and many people have been comparing weathering waves to genjin impact and even going as far as saying it is a genjin killer but they're wrong about the game comparison part at least and we'll talk more about how the game could be a genj and killer later in the video on the surface withering waves may look very similar to genjin impact but it's actually a game that's much closer to something like Tower of fantasy that's because wering waves lacks the elemental reaction system to enhance character damage and create interactions between players and enemies instead where the ring waves places more of an emphasis on timing to dish out maximum damage parries and Dodges are designed to be offensive parts of combat and withering waves and compared to genjin impact there's even more options for movement and attacking like the ability to back dash getting the proper timing of a Parry Dodge Dash and so forth lets you use various abilities such as extreme evasion which allows you to not take damage while continuing your offensive so for a general comparison genin impacts combat system is more reliant on the in-game elemental reaction system while withering waves combat is more reliant on the player's M skill so if you like games that encourage skill expression and for you to show off your abilities withering waves has a lot of avenues for you to do just that each character has their own abilities allowing you to use a variety of skills in addition to normal charged and plunging attacks but there's also aerial attacks abilities that trigger from parries and Dodges intro and outro abilities that trigger when you switch characters and Echo abilities that let you summon or transform form into a previously captured enemy in combat that may sound like a lot but it's pretty easy to get used to and the effect of this combat system is that every action you take whether it's a normal attack Dodge sing characters or summoning and Echo is designed to continue an offensive series of actions one really cool thing is that the character switches our client side unlike genjin impact which is server side meaning that even if you have high ping your actions will feel less interrupted and you can often cancel the long animations of certain skills with other skills to chain abilities together very quickly the effect of this is that playing withering waves almost feels like playing Kingdom Hearts 2 but with a lot more button presses and while there aren't as many deep combat interactions like there are with genin the combat is fluid and fast-paced especially when you learn how to switch to avoid character and Echo animation locks this is also precisely why withering waves battle system is very similar to Tower of fantasy both games have an emphasis on dodging and special abilities you can activate from dodging parrying and so forth and there's also aerial combat in the battle system that automatically uses a character's ability upon switching and while Tower of fantasy doesn't have Echoes it does have relics which are functionally the same thing extra summons that you can use in battle to deal extra damage or cause certain effects so when we think about combat in with in waves and genjin impact they may look the same but really they're different systems genin's combat is based on Elemental reactions and Hell well you manipulate the elements in real time to create fun and interesting effects withering waves combat is more fastpaced and rewarding for players who can input their abilities with the right timings allowing for skilled players to have a smooth and uninterrupted combat experience neither one of these systems is better than the other it all comes down to personal preference the main difference players will find is that genin's combat is based more on knowledge AKA knowing the different elements and how they will react and when to best use their skills while weing waves combat is based more on player skill aka the ability to dodge Parry attack and switch characters at just the right time and while combat is a major part of the game it's not the only part so now we'll look at other aspects of the game some of which are way better than genjin impact and some of which are much worse like most other gotta games withering waves uses an energy or stamina system very similar to the resin system in genjin impact the withering waves energy or stamina system is called wave matter and it caps at 240 you can recover one wave matter every 6 minutes which means you can recover the full amount in 24 hours genin's current resin system with the 160 resin cap requires you to log in twice per day if you don't want to over cap on resin which is honestly just tedious so for about a week withering waves has a much better energy SL stamina system because it will max out after 24 hours whereas genin's current system maxes out after about 21 hours what's also really nice is that withering waves does not completely lock progress behind this energy SL stamina system at least in the early to mid game and that's because of how they handle World exploration withering waves has a great incentive to explore the world World which is that enemies you defeat have a chance to drop an echo which is basically the same thing as an artifact and getch an impact but it can be summoned and used in combat as well as equipped for stats when you first start out you can't get very powerful Echoes but as you farm more enemies you unlock higher tiers of Echoes and get more powerful versions and higher Rarities of them including ultra rare versions of them dubbed shinies like the shiny versions of Pokémon with alternative colors this is a really really cool system because it makes exploration and fighting Overworld enemies actually feel meaningful unlike in genjin Impact where the Overworld enemies just feel like a chore to fight the problem with this is that it's really only good in the early to mid game because leveling up these Echoes will require wave matter or resin the time gated Energy System of the game but at least there's a good way to progress your characters through exploration in the early to mid game though you may get tired of looking at the same rocks and pale grass over and over the environments and withering waves aren't very bright and flashy and that's not a bad thing but I found that a lot of the areas were just drab and boring and they just really felt dated comparatively gench and impacts environments are colorful they're interesting they're full of Ambiance and if they were real places I would genuinely want to go there the music that accompanies these environments in combat is pretty good but honestly it just didn't really stand out to me but I played a lot of genjin impact where the music is incredible and frankly it's just hard for most other mobile games to compare and speaking of things that don't really stand out the story in withering waves hasn't been very gripping I tried to pay attention but I didn't find it really that interesting and I just wanted to rush through it so I could go and fight more enemies for comparison's sake genin impact story feels average at first but the quality dramatically increases as the game progresses but I genuinely feel that people people who enjoy withering waves won't mind the less than Stellar story because if you enjoy this game you're not in it for a mindblowing narrative you're in it for its combat and collection aspects and while I already went over the combats what I didn't talk about was the level of difficulty in the end game the difficulty in withering waves is pretty steep especially compared to gench and impact there are enemies and bosses that will obliterate you in a second and there are many ways to deal with them but if you don't like being one or two shot at the end game you might find withering waves quite frustrating there's also several mechanics that make it so no amount of shielding healing or gearing will be able to save you if you mess up which I'll touch on a bit while going over the endgame there's three distinct endgame modes the hazard Zone Tower hologram bosses and the illusion realm the hazard Zone Tower is a progressively more difficult challenge kind of like genin Spiral Abyss that requires three teams or nine characters to complete this is the main endgame mode and it's a DPS check meant to balance around to having the max level characters and great gear what's unique about the hazard zone is the Vigor system which are points associated with each character and it reduces whenever you use them for a hazard Zone floor this limits the amount of times you can use a specific character in this mode but there's still ways to use this system to your advantage like switching gear from a character you just cleared with to the character you're about to use the second endgame challenge is the hardest the Hologram bosses these are bosses that have enhanced skills and attacks and they become stronger over time until they can easily one-hot you this is a real test of your abilities and it feels a bit like bosses from Elden ring or Savage rage in Final Fantasy 14 the final endgame mode is the illusion realm which is a pretty casual Rog like system that is the easiest of all the game mode and this game mode restricts the characters you're allowed to use so having more characters built will be good for future runs and resets of the illusion realm but it's not really a very difficult mode so you probably don't need to Max every single character you get just for this endgame mode of course these game modes will be a lot easier to complete when you have much better characters so let's talk about how you actually get characters in this game via the gacha system withering waves uses a gacha or wish system as the main way to get new characters and like all gotta systems it sometimes gives you what you want but mostly it's designed for you to gamble and to drain your bank account to get the character you actually want that being said withering waves gotcha system is slightly better than genin impacts there's still a 50/50 that you have to win but the soft pity starts at 50 and you're guaranteed a five-star by 80 wishes and if you lose your 50/50 the the next five star is guaranteed to be the rateup character just like in genjin Impact in addition to the character Banner gotcha system there's also a weapon Banner gacha system in weathering waves and this weapon Banner system is much better than genin impacts there's a standard weapon banner and a limited weapon banner and while the weapon Banners are still a giant trap for free-to-play players they do have better rates for five-star weapons than the genin impact weapon Banner I've also seen a lot of people say withering waves is a lot more generous than genin impact in terms of rewards and free wishes and honestly that's not too hard because genon impact is very stingy when it comes out to giving things for free but keep in mind that when a game is launching there will be tons of rewards up for grabs for free and then they'll become a lot more scarce after just a couple months and withering waves might end up having tons of power creep which could totally counteract what seems like generosity with any free wishes they give the final gameplay aspect I want to touch on before I do an overall comparison and review is Co-op withering waves Co-op feels a lot worse than genjin impacts which is saying a lot because genin impacts Co-op is pretty bad you only get to play one potentially two characters to use in Co-op which limits a lot of the unique character switching mechanics and combat intricacy compared to playing solo genin has a whole host of problems in Co-op but at least the elemental reaction system still works really well in Co-op and it doesn't feel like Co-op is a downgrade to the overall combat experience like it does in withering waves so overall how do the two games compare the combat system is like comparing apples to oranges some people will prefer genjin impacts Elemental system while some people will prefer wethering waves fast-paced combat with emphasis on Dodges and paries the energy SL stamina systems AKA resin or wave matter is not great in general and both time gate your progress but as of the time of recording withering waves system is just much better this will change shortly after this video releases once genin increases the resin cap to 200 making both systems pretty much equal the exploration in withering waves feels much more impactful and fun because you can collect monsters while also making your character stronger through hunting echoes in the Overworld this system will Peter out later but it is pretty fun in the early game however the environment in withering waves is a lot more lackluster compared to genin impacts especially when considering the music and how it affects the environment and feeling of the world withering wave story is less gripping than genin impacts although genin's starting story wasn't really amazing either withering waves has a much steeper difficulty curve compared to genjin impact especially in certain endgame mode it also has a lot more combat focused endgame modes unlike genjin impact which does have a few endgame combat modes but most of the endgame focus seems to go around the other endgame activities like the build your own world mode in the Serena teapot and the trading card battling mode of the TG the gotcha system while it is essentially a gambling system and sometimes it may feel like setting a big pile of money on fire at least it's slightly better in withering waves for characters and a lot better for weapons the co-op system in both games is pretty bad but it feels much worse in withering waves with all that said is withering waves actually a gench and impact killer no it's not very likely it is a different type of game that appeals to different people but I can't see it having the same amount of influence as genin impact once you go past the beginning stages of the game it's not designed for you to do too much besides logging in for 5 minutes per day and without a compelling reason to spend a lot of time away from genin withering waves will likely have a huge surge in population only to fall and eventually stabilize with a core player base while people who were once excited about the game move on to play something else the game itself is pretty good especially for being in the early stages but it doesn't offer enough to really be a true genjin killer that being said the unique combat mechanics and difficulty will appeal to some people a lot more and there will be plenty of people who would drop genin impact for withering waves if you like flashy fast-paced action combat above all else in games I think you'll enjoy withering waves and if you want to check it out I'll have a link to download the game in the description I love you all stage awesome and I can't wait to see you in the next one
