An Amazing Tale of Heroism

can I call you Glenn yes you can you and and a hero I will call you a hero right place at the right time what no what what an amazing okay so you you get there uh you were one of the first on the scene right yes and you see the whole building did you see people hanging out of the window when we uh when I arrived um I oberved heavy fire uh coming out of first floor window and uh I stepped out of the uh fire truck was about to uh radio uh for more help when I looked up and was astonished at the fact that I had approximately nine people hanging out of Windows within eyesight okay so you see nine people hanging out of different windows up there and at what point do you see Xavier so at this time I moved around the side of the building when I noticed uh Judith lamb uh holding her six-year-old uh grandson Xavier he she was holding him by one arm and he was flailing U having a ball apparently he was not at all not at all scared the time of life t t up tiing up on the third floor and so so uh so I uh I determined that the that he was going to be the highest priority rescue um for us to make but I knew at that moment that we do not have a ladder placement ready to affect a rescue for him um at this point I made a decision that she was going to have to drop him to me I yelled up to her to not drop him until I got underneath so I told her to hold off with nothing but your arms you had no net no you just is we don't use Nets okay well I don't know they it used to not not like a butterfly net I didn't I didn't I didn't think you had that but 100 years ago we used but uh so I I positioned myself under her under uh where he was hanging flailing away and uh because I knew she couldn't hold him and I just said all right let go and uh he Dr three stories three stories and he dropped into your arms he dropped right into my arms did you fall down I I couldn't like play playing softball I couldn't make a catch like I made with the Navy really and you just caught him like that I caught him in my arms and I immediately handed him off because now I had to shift my focus to Judith I didn't want her to jump because I did know that we had ladders coming and we worked uh with a ladder company from Grove Hall and brought them in and uh we raised a ground ladder to get her down safely and everybody in your family got out safely uh well first of all what what an amazing uh story all of it is that that all of it worked out okay because it so easily looked like it it could have gone a whole another way the team the teamwork displayed by the fight Department really it paid off I work together and raising laders and and affecting rescues um you know get everybody out safe and that's the best best feeling in the world it goes without saying how grateful we are to you every single day of Our Lives people like you that that run towards the fire you know but that's amazing um all right well one thing you you lost uh you lost just everything really in in the fire and Xavier uh we got you a gift because I know you you lost something that's important to you we got you a brand new Nintendo 3DS and games all right so you have that thank you all right all right Glenn uh you you were amazing uh so uh we're sending you to Universal Orlando resort and your whole family you're going on a five night all-inclusive trip where you'll stay at the Lowe's ptoo Bay Hotel and experience both of their amazing theme parks they'll have a great time we've been there it's fun and uh you you're starting all over again so you need a lot of help and so our friends at Groupon are giving you $115,000 to get back on your feet yes oh my God oh my God how about that oh my God oh my God be right back
