Fucking Emma man, be quiet.
You know I was surprised to find out that there is a movement from the deaf community against this. I guess they don't like their communities broken up and you are pretty much exiled if you get a cochlear implant. I've also heard from my friend who taught ASW that the cochlear implant isn't completely perfect. Patients using it will hear like a hard digital signal instead of the softer sounds we hear. I guess it's like mp3s and records.
An example of what she may be hearing. Skip to 3:15 if you do not want to watch the whole thing.
Humans are so fucking awesome. Every time there is an obstacle put in front of us we find a way around it. You're deaf? No you're fucking not here's a robot ear now go hear for the rest of your life!
Something about the fact that we can say to hell with disabilities and be able to let people hear again just makes me happy as shit
I can't believe the deaf community is up in arms about this.
They claim that this type of procedure is discriminatory toward them as a minority, and means that science sees them as disabled when they don't feel as though they are. Hearing is an abililty, if you cannot do it, you are, by definition, disabled.
I haven't teared up in a very long time. Thank you for this. It's beautiful.
This is amazing... My sister has the same implants (both sides), she's now 16 and has them since she was a small child. After the first confusion (which is normal, it's a totally new sense that the person has to get used to), it was such a transformation for her, the world opened up. It was incredible.
I can only imagine how this must feel for an adult. It must have been both very confusing and very exciting to hear her family and especially her son for the first time ever.
Every time I see a video like this, I get tears in my eyes, as i remember the same moment with my sister.
Thanks for posting this, and i wish Amy all the best in the future!
why the comments degenerate into a science vs. religion debate is beyond me...just be happy for the girl!
This is absolutely incredible. Gave me chills.
