Hi all, this is Mike from WanderschikanenTV, After configuring Assetto Corsa Competizione and Assetto Corsa in recent videos for best VR performance with OpenComposite and OpenXR Toolkit, today, we will tackle another heavy-weight racing simulation, Automobilista 2. Again, we will use OpenComposite and OpenXR Toolkit, but we will skip Nvidia driver today as I left everything on Default in driver settings. Also, we will look at the ingame settings of Automobilista 2, and I hope you can enjoy my settings with a nice VR performance both with respect to frames per second and image quality. So, enjoy the video and drop a LIKE and subscribe to my channel if you enjoy watching the content! For OpenComposite, we download the file, extract it and then we open it. So, it's starting the executable, checking whether everything is up-to-date. And we make sure to press this button "Switch to OpenComposite". Once you pressed it, it's activated, and OpenComposite and OpenXR will be used and bypass SteamVR. We can further configure OpenComposite, therefore, we have to go to a certain folder. It´s here in the Steam folder, you go toe SteamApps, Common, Automobilista 2, x64, and there, you create with Windows Editor the file "opencomposite.ini". Open it, and write in there "hiddenMeshVerticalScale=0.8" Respect the capital letters, otherwise, it will not work. This crops off 10% of the top and 10% of the bottom, and your graphics card needs to render fewer pixels, this boosts frames per second. Let´s go to the options of AMS2. In Options, we first set the Visual FX. Basically, it's full-blown setting, Post-Processing ON, all sun flare effects to Full, Bloom ON, Heat Haze ON, Exposure Compensation at 1.00, Rain Drops YES, Vignette, I don't like, that's the cutting of the corners with black fields, Crepuscular Rays YES, Screen Dirt YES and Cockpit Mirrors ON. In Performance, I set here a resolution of 1920x1080, this is the resolution of my flatscreen. in a borderless window. Overall, we can use the texture resolution "High", texture filtering "Anisotropic 16x", No Vsync, MSAA off, PostAA, I select "SMAA Medium", Supersampling is not active, Reflections and Environment Map at "Medium", Car Detail and Track Detail at "High", all detail for the Pitcrew, Shadow Detail "LOW", Enhanced Mirror "YES", Motion Blur is set to "OFF", and don´t forget to scroll down here, Render Frames Ahead is "1", Detailed Grass "High", Particle Level "High" and Particle Density "High". Finally, we go to Virtual Reality. Gaze Control is "OFF", this is whether you select items by looking at them. I don't find this very comfortable. Supersampling is 1.0, we do this via OpenXR Toolkit. Recenter View on Boot, that's quite handy, Recenter View at Race Start, I don't use, and Camera Near Clip Plane, I set to 0.07, otherwise, your picture is sometimes cut off in a weird way, for example by the seat of your car. Let's have a look at the ingame settings of OpenXR Toolkit. You can access this menu by pressing CTRL F2. And we first navigate with CTRL F3 to the menu section and we activate the "Show expert settings"here. Next step, we go to performance, we turn on the overlay to show the frames per second, it´s displayed here, you can see it. and Upscaling/Sharpening, we select CAS at a sharpness of 70%. Fixed Foveated Rendering goes with custom setting, inner resolution 1x, inner ring size 55%, middle resolution 1/4, outer ring size 80%, and outer resolution 1/16. We prefer the vertical resolution here, and we shape our high resolution area a bit horizontally, setting this horizontal scale to 150%, and we shift it slightly up to where we look out of the car ingame through the VR headset by a vertical offset of 15%. Left/Right bias none, turbo mode ON, framerate throttling OFF, and we are not recording statistics. Appearance and Inputs, we can skip, all of those are default for me. But in System, we do set Override Resolution YES, I recommend first to try a display resolution of 3000x2923, this runs on my system very smooth with already 90 fps in the start phase of a race, for a bit more picture quality, you can also try to push it to 3200, then it´s more like 80 to high-80 frames per second. Reprojection stays on Default, we are not changing the color gains, Field of View, we set to Advanced, and doing so, we are cropping off 10% at either side, by setting all the values here to 90%. And that's it ingame here with the OpenXRToolkit, and we can now see what we achieve in terms of performance and clarity with the final race! I need to say a few words about limitations of VR in Automobilista 2. Typically in clear conditions like this one or the normal conditions with clouds, the engine is running really smooth, and it's easy to achieve the 90 frames per second. However, there are other weather conditions where you are getting really poor VR performance in the game, and this is in the rainy conditions here, storm, rain, fog also doesn't work super well. And also besides these weather conditions, night conditions are really challenging for the Automobilista 2 engine. This is especially true when you are racing against opponents in cars which are having headlights. When the headlights are casted into your mirror in the cockpit, they cause really massive framerate drops. It seems that the engine is rather poorly optimized for that type of condition. For example, a rain race in a Formula One Car works still quite well because the other opponent cars don't cast light into your mirror, however, if you do the same exercise with a GT3 car e.g. where everybody has big headlights on the car, your frames per second will be dropping significantly. So, please don't be too disappointed when Automobilista 2 is not working perfectly under all conditions in VR, this is not due to the setting, itÄs a matter of the engine of the game. Finally, after performing all these settings, you can now enjoy the result. We go onboard with the Brazilian Stockcars at Interlagos, beautiful cars to drive, a bit oversteery, on a beautiful track, so, I hope you like the video, and I see you soon on track - RACE ON!
