[Music] welcome to belmont stakes day as this wide open three-year-old division could today produce a clear-cut leader will two-year-old champion essential quality bounce back after suffering his first defeat in the kentucky derby he will go off as the favorite jackie's warrior proved again he could fight and finish in the pat day mile the woody stevens is next on his list for steve asmussen search results came up just short in the kentucky oaks against mala thought now she looks to add a second grade one victory in the acorn and wesley ward's bound for nowhere produced a great at stakes went off a long layoff can he go back to back in the diaper all that coming up and more on today's belmont stakes edition of america's day at the races it's brought to you in part by america's best racing for the love of the race visit america's bestracing.net today sacatoga stable silks tis the law with the winner of the belmont stakes last year when for the first time ever the belmont stakes led off this triple crown series in a year that covet was the big story that was at a mile an eighth now it's back to the third and final leg of the triple crown this test of the champion as we've come to know it at a mile and a half featuring the two-year-old champion essential quality and the preakness winner rom bauer and a very strong supporting cast i'm greg wolfe i'm going to bring in andy sterling here in just a moment as we take a look at the field that will line up in this 153rd edition of the belmont stakes presented by naira betts and yes the two to one morning line favorite essential quality one of five runners from that kentucky derby who passed on the preakness and now return for the belmont stakes and in a day where you feel like it's almost a mid-season's breeders cup with all the grade one races this race may settle the three-year-old division if rombauer is able to win a second triple crown race anybody else and it becomes much more wide open are you in agreement though that the two-year-old champion is the horse to beat i know he's the morning line favorite but squarely the worst yeah i think he is um i really i picked him on top in this race greg and he's a horse who's built for a race like this he has the pedigree to get the distance and he has the perfect running style he's a horse who will galp along at a nice clip and if rock your world is in front of him and hot rod charlie he has the acceleration perhaps to beat those horses he won't be compromised by however the race is run and i think the belmont stakes is the absolute perfect race for essential quality you can earn a 20 bonus on belmont stakes day using the naira bets app at at least 100 on belmont park races one through five on belmont state state with an iron man's app you get that 20 bonus win or lose the narrower bets app available in the app store or naira for android on nairabets.com take advantage again that is on the app only our first at belmont it's amazing special awaited five and a half furlongs post parade happened a few moments ago we're just two minutes from a start here as we take a look at disengaged michelle nevin yeah disengage is one of the horses with experience along with the stable mate here did not run particularly well first time but might improve golden holiday right next door second time starter similar situation at least this one ran a little bit better than his stable mate the rail one of two in here for todd pletcher keep calm carry on son of union rags first fall from a dam she was trained by dale romans more turf in the second family wit it will be jose ortiz filling in for his brother on this 575 thousand dollar son of practical joke practical jokes so very well at the sales uh looking for this one you have to imagine if todd fletcher is debuting a horse that cost over a half a million dollars on belmont stakes day he must believe it can run and the money says so my rosie huge price first time out here for alberta davies half to four horses that combined didn't do much running 16 to one baytown warrior kendra carmouche not a lot to recommend from the dam side but this horse worked a very impressive nine and four fifths the two-year-old sale so uh did not look fast could be a little bit interesting if you're looking for a bomb here's another big price ricardo santana junior on this first time starter by ocean night actually that's who i was talking about greg when i said the worst worth nine four fifty year old sale i got a little excited i miss baytown warrior i apologize this is the one that worked nine and four fifths two-year-old sally's seven magical night and too much action on the outside five don't want taking money was 15 on the line yeah the money's interesting this trainer um jeremiah o'dwyer has a decent enough record with his two-year-old first-time stars in dirt sprints he's six for 38 but he's had prices in there so he's got a positive roi and i thought he could be the sneaky upsetter if you want to take a shot against a favorite odds-on favorite with a todd pletcher first time starter to kick off this belmont snake stay card let's check in with maggie wolfendale for more well greg after a crazy weather day yesterday it is summer here in elmont new york as the sun is shining brightly and it is hot so don't be dissuaged if you see some horses getting a little hot out on the racetrack today because it is hot and humid so let's take a look at the 2-4 trainer todd pletcher two first-time starters wit number four taking all the money actually he's half to a horse named barkley who won his first six starts at two and three albeit at emerald downs but lee showed that precocity he was so professional back in the paddock wit very calm very relaxed classy same thing followed through here onto the racetrack big long leggy type the only maybe slight knock i have is five and a half is it going to be too short based upon his physicality and his disposition but if they're good they can win at any distance moving on to his uncoupled stable mate keep calm and carry on he is actually one that wasn't necessarily doing that he got a little stuttish uh in the paddock same thing back here on the track john velasquez the hall of famer that he is really doing his best to keep this guy focused taking him on the backside trying to do figure eights with him at a trot to really harness that energy good looking type actually really fit if mentally he can click it together i think he could be a runner as we'll move on to number eight too much action a son of too much bling who does hit at 14 with his two-year-old first-time starters they can be quick and of all the firsters this guy for jeremiah o'dwyer by far looks the fittest really well defined i do prefer the two from the pletcher barn though greg all right maggie thank you loading up our first of what is going to be a long afternoon into the evening here on a tremendous day of racing one of the top few days of the entire calendar year this is one of only four races on today's card that's not a steak race and one of only five that's not a grade one i like the idea of the two-year-olds by the way starting out on belmont stakes day it just has a good feel we used to do it and it's nice to see we've got a two-year-old race in belmont stakes day we've got the current stars and the potential future stars one to two favorite they're betting this horse like he could be a potential star wit for todd fletcher and rappoli stable five and a half furlongs to kick things off here oh wit i get it practical joke wit very well named it's very witty it is indeed as we wait on this seven to move in magical night the one you were talking about with that sharp work this first worked nine and four fifths two year old sale and only sold over eighty five thousand dollars because there's just absolutely no pedigree but it'll be interesting to see if this one has some speed but he's not getting the gate quickly greg no in fact he's going backwards little moonwalk action there ricardo santina jr had to hop off seems to have calmed down it's already warm it's going to get warmer so i'll be interesting to see how the horses handle this but what it's not going to be doing is raining which is a beautiful thing the weather that we have had here over the last five days of racing we're good yes we are great crowd already on hand beautiful weather on belmont stakes hey let's head it upstairs to john embrielle to get this card started they're all in line and they're off whit was away slow and is at the back of the pack up front it is golden holiday challenged here by bait town warrior baytown warrior and golden holiday they are right together and on the outside it is too much action who is racing in third then the philly my rosie next in fourth it's almost five lengths to whit who is now advanced up into fifth then on the outside it is magical night in six disengage at the rail in seventh and keep calm carry on is the trailer in eighth the opening quarter mile winning 22 and two fifth seconds on the outside it is too much action to take a narrow lead baytown warrior wit continues to move up on the outside as the field comes into the stretch too much action challenged now by whis on the outside and with has taken over the lead whit is in front with a bold move there wit opening up on the field here off a step slow no problem wit will win his debut impressively and it's a three-way photo for a second the five and a half prolongs one minute four and three fifth seconds we may have an early favorite for next year's triple crown whit completely missed the break and still goes on to dominate this field definitely feels like the favor for the start of a special doesn't he after that performance and we talked about it beforehand it seemed like todd fletcher's a number of his two-year-olds hadn't broken that well and he got completely left in here and settled towards the back of the pack but greg when he got to running he just ran by him like it was a one-horse race a very very impressive debut he can't keep getting left going forward but this was a nice performance we don't know how quickly a track is playing but 104 and three fifths for five and a half furlongs that's pretty quick especially giving the field a head start wins it two to five interesting debut to say the least maggie yeah and one that you can uh build upon that's for sure and as i said i thought he was a horse that would appreciate a little bit more ground and he echoed that sentiment drawing away from this field as you guys said not the greatest of beginnings but you could see when this horse got in the clear unraveled his stride what a beautiful efficient and ground-covering mover that he is and a nice rally from his uncoupled stablemate i think he may have just gotten nosed four seconds that's keep calm and carry on who took a while to figure things out but showed that he has a bit of ability as well guys fun to watch here these majority of this group first time starters look again at the beginning post to the four horse not the way you want to begin going five and a half furlongs uh no i mean it's a lot of good horses have lost their debuts behaving like that coming out of the gate and he still ended up winning by four lengths five lengths uh this was a very impressive effort i think the number eight horse was ready to win too much action who may have held on for second it's close with the two keep keep calm carry on too much action did a lot more work earlier to get there and he just was no match for whit i mean this was a very impressive debut because you know a lot of times when you see two year olds when their debuts they have blinding speed they're ready first time out they just outrun a field from start to finish this was a different story there is todd fletcher newly minted hall of famer he'll be inducted later this summer this debut andy was no joke oh the jokes are coming out early today first time out jose ortiz filling in for his brother and we're gonna have more on exactly what happened with outright ortiz jr earlier this week he's gonna be out a couple of weeks but did escape much more serious injury so that was great news we wish irad a speedy recovery who will ride known agenda in the belmont for irad we'll have that story next [Music] an undefeated graded stakes winner on the track algorithms has sired over 70 winners from starters his top runners include pennsylvania derby winner math wizard on fox sports 2 our program it's brought to you by legendary clay burn farm 100 years of doing the usual unusually well interesting debut for wit jose ortiz all smiles filling in for his injured older brother irad here at a horse who missed the break and went on to dominate anyway witt wins it 2-5 said downstairs to maggie that's right greg the cleverly named wit here with his trainer todd fletcher and todd what a nice way to kick off belmont stakes day obviously with the backing we saw on the top board you were expecting this performance but talk about the slow break and what he overcame today well that was my biggest concern because in his last gatework i thought he was a step slow but that was his second gate work i said you know what i'm not going to work him again from the gate i'm going to run him even though i'm concerned he might be a step slow it's actually a step and a half slow but it's one of those things that turned out to be a great thing he got a lot of experience he took some dirt he got an education and still ran very well so and hinted at the longer he goes the better he may become he's such a laid back hole he's got a great personality i think he'll stretch out and happy with the way the horse that finished second he ran on pretty well too you have to be pleased with that and two jose ortiz picking up the mount for his unfortunately injured brother erad and he gets the mount unknown agenda talk about the decision to put jose on yeah i mean you know jose is an accomplished rider he's uh this is his home track he knows belmont well he won a belmont for us on taproot so all those things went into play and i think you know with irad having ridden them horse and can communicate well with jose on what he knows about him we just felt like everything kind of pointed in that direction everything falling into place happens for sometimes an unfortunate reason but good to see jose aboard known agenda todd best of luck later congrats so thank you all right guys we will see todd pletcher throughout the day with several live horses on the car greg we have him with colonel liam in the manhattan too and that three-prong attack in the belmont stakes thank you maggie and i think that's one of the big rematches that everyone's looking forward to on today's card colonel liam domestic spending it's gonna be luis sayas for pletcher on colonel liam and that manhattan yeah i mean it's hard to look at the race at churchill and not prefer domestic spending because he had such a tougher trip but and i'm a big domestic offending fan i think the mile and a quarter suits colonel liam possibly more than it suits domestic spending so that could be a bit of an evening factor today's race is presented by claiborne farm races two through six on a good main track turf course listed as good as well here at belmont and we'll have one through five at churchill downs where they are fast and firm let's take you back to earlier in the week and irad ortiz jr and a philly that looked incredibly promising for chad brown and clary b stables and then does this kind of digs that front left foot into the ground rears up tosses irat ortiz jr there's jose his brother running towards irad to make sure he's okay he would be taken to the hospital for precautionary measures he's going to be out a couple of weeks but he did escape any serious injuries the most important thing is that he escaped any serious injuries that's all that matters and it comes out of it it's also important to note the horse is okay he ran over the finish line as well i was shocking i i i've been at the racetrack a long long time greg and i know you've been around a long time too i've never seen anything like that that is the damage he saw the tweet there from jose x-rays clean that is the hit he took on his helmet from a horse scary but it also says thank god he's wearing they're wearing helmets out there and we're just glad that he's okay absolutely well known agenda gonna need a fill-in pilot it will be irad's brother jose on the florida derby winner [Music] and he did a pretty nice job filling in for his brother on forensic fire yesterday in the true north well he's a pretty good rider i mean he gets a little overshadowed by irad who keeps piling up the eclipse awards but jose ortiz won the eclipse award before irad won it he did indeed he is an incredibly accomplished nice to have that family connection too where you can kind of talk things out gary what is it like to have a big race day like this a triple crown event all these other big great ones on the card and to lose out on injury it's got to be devastating well it is devastating it happened to me in 1996 totally different circumstances of what i rad i was writing editor's note i'd ridden him in the first two legs of the triple crown for wade and lucas we knew he was going to enjoy the mile and a half but i did i dislocated my left shoulder during a race i had surgery on it and i was actually able to go to the belmont and that was the first time that i did national tv covering that as an analyst and renee douglas picked up the mount i spoke with him told him he was a grinder and he wrote him to perfection this is totally different irad's got to feel lucky that he is just alive right now after that accident and i'll tell you seeing jose running down the racetrack the image of that you have to realize um the writers talk after there's been a spill like that and you know if you've made contact from another rider with your horse to another rider you hear it you feel it and i'm sure that when they pulled up they said man i got him i and jose obviously was very upset knew the impact of it as he was running down that racetrack but i think it's great that jose is picking the horse up i know that irad's going to be rooting for this horse he would have loved to have been there today after breaking from the one hole in the kentucky derby and his chances when they drew the number one pill for that race i knew that his chances have basically disappeared so hard to win out of the one hole with 20 horses he actually ran a great race in the kentucky derby skipped the preakness with the belmont in mind so um you know i'm sure that he's told jose every trick that he knows about the horse to help him get in the winner's circle this afternoon for todd fletcher greg gary thanks we're going to talk to you a little bit more later in the show about how to ride this race a man hall of famer who has won the belmont stakes three times in his career and gave a ride to win it with victory gallop that belongs in the hall of fame of greatest rides ever well here are all the changes and fill-ins for irad on some big races this afternoon in the woody stevens during the clock that'll be coming up early on our program his brother on board there he's filling in in the ottoman fix on la trusca that i really think you look at the mounts and letrusca that ride he gave the apple blossom was just sensational to be monomoy girl and you know you're absolutely right um and he loses search results who's the heavy favorite in the acorn who he wrote so well with kentucky oaks um javier has written her in the past he gets them out mischievous alex a top player as well in the in the in the pellendale in that mile coming up great one in the woody stevens at seven eight straight the clock he is quick he went gate to wire in the bay shore oh but he's got to deal with a whole another level of speed and jackie's warrior pat day mile winner they'll go toe-to-toe still to come the run happies keep winning what are they at belmont park when a pair of run happies crushed the competition tdn rising star following c delivered yet another emphatic performance sailing down good luck to everybody still to come race three the first of our grade one action on belmont stakes day woody stevens at 7 8 of a mile jackie's warrior wow was he a tough customer on the lead in the pate mile on kentucky derby dave he's such a good horse and it was really great to see him show that he's still a really good horse because he ran so poorly in the slop at oak lawn around two turns and his three-year-old debut you had to worry a little bit that he was just precocious as a two-year-old he hadn't come back but he answered that question his brilliant speed as well as his stamina was on display and winning both the hopeful and champagne last year a double that practical joke the sire of today's first winner pulled off in his career just a few years ago and he came back and he and dream shake really threw it down and how about dream shake i mean he got thrown to the wolves after his impressive debut and has run well every single time and his subsequent starts without winning it's gonna be fun to see them go at it again dream shake gonna be drawn just outside of him you do have drain the clock in this race as well he's coming off a win in the grade three bay shore we'll see if he can tackle jackie's warrior in the spot jackie's warrior is fast with more on drain the clock let's go to maggie and please to be here with racing manager of slam dunk racing nick cusado and nick coming up on a big day for you guys you'll have drain the clock coming up in the woody stevens what do you think about his chances it's a tough field with jackie's warrior and we'll get to your other horse in a second who you said has a big shot too yeah they both have big chances today maggie uh draen the clock would ideally like him to be drawn outside of jackie's warrior but you know you got to take what you're given and it's a short field but he's uh he's in there with the fighters chance and gregorian chan looking for his fourth win in a row in the jack pocket jeiper i mean is he going to transfer that californian form to the turf course here today a little given the ground yeah that kind of remains to be seen he's a euro so we think he'll like it um i guess the question mark there is no pace in the race so a lot of your closers are probably tactically going to need to be a little bit closer to the pace nick tell us a little bit more about slam dunk grazing well we're we're a small group i want to get bigger we're actually going to start advertising here this year now that everything's over with covet and whatnot started as a small group with i thought it was going to be about six buddies of mine and we might get a dozen or so horses and it morphed into 20 partners and 80 horses so we grew quickly um very fast and um i'm just happy we got a great group of guys involved and just hoping to get bigger that sounds like so much fun best of luck today and thank you for your time maggie thank you so much all right that is nick cusado of slam dunk racing guys has two big shots coming up in those grade ones maggie thanks and yeah he's earned a chance to be in this spot after wins in the swale and the bay shore that second in the fountain of youth will be fun to watch our abr race of the week not a hard choice here 153rd running of the belmont stakes presented by naira betts let's take a look at the entire field from top to bottom todd pletcher he will have three runners in the race as he tries to win this fourth belmont stakes burbonic the first of those three the wood memorial winner yeah uh burbonic showed that he could be a different horse when he makes a big run from the back of the pack and that style was not conducive to that this year's kentucky derby but the big question remains whether or not he's good enough kendra carmouche will be aboard the son of bernardini for calumet farm essential quality he comes in as the favorite for brad cox after passing on the preakness and he ran very well in the kentucky derby with a wide trip and a race that the pace held together he was the favorite in that race he's a deserving favorite in the belmont stakes and absolutely the one to beat preakness winner rombauer rolled on by kentucky derby winner medina spirit midnight bourbon to collect the first classic for trainer michael mccarthy and he ran the fastest buyer speed figure that any horse in this race has ever run in winning the preakness where did it come from and can he do it again he'll have a new pilot of course hall of famer john velasquez aboard because the pilot of ron bauer moving to hot rod charlie who he rode in the derby and in all likelihood that was decision was made before the preakness a commitment that they were honoring i wouldn't make too much of it but he's a big time player as well and probably going to be the second choice in this race can he win this race though without the lead because he won the louisiana derby on the front end france go de ena ricardo santana junior will be aboard he tried the preakness he was seventh of 10 in that race a a huge long shot here his connections are taking a shot it's a big race you cannot blame them for doing that is he a horse that could be forwardly placed in here and a potential thor in the side of rock your world interesting yeah we'll see where they place them early on senna will take charge known agendas to the right or change we were all waiting to hear with outright ortiz junior out will be his brother jose aboard once again another horse compromised by the fact that the closing style wasn't conducive in the kentucky derby but the big question with him is he good enough what helps him is his trainer todd fletcher and his brilliance in the belmont stakes the horse everybody expects to be on the lead all by himself rock your world who got eliminated early in that kentucky derby if you liked him in the derby you should come back and bet him again here because he had no chance and he shouldn't be clear in today's race i didn't like him i don't know if he's good enough but we'll find out today and he's definitely an interesting player 9-2 on the morning line joel rosario returns after riding him into the san anita derby and then overtook the third of the three fletcher runners blinkers go on today he's trying to overtake his rivals with his closing style but these deep closers are rarely successful in the belmont stakes and he's once again much like burbank and even less so he hasn't shown that he's good enough going to be a fascinating edition of this belmont stakes and if it's rombauer if it's essential quality either one of those two they clearly take this lead in this three-year-old division they do but they'll be on equal terms as far as one triple crown win each and i think it makes the rest a race like the travers of great importance because clearly they could square off in that race and i think it adds a lot more intrigue going forward if ron bauer were to win this belmont stace with his two triple crown wins he becomes a prohibitive favorite to be the three-year-old champion pick four is coming up the first of several this afternoon it's a maiden special weight on the widener turf course seven furlongs on the grass and the current favorite as they come through the tunnel is pipeline chad brown john gunther breeder of justifiable javier castellano aboard and he's half the three turf winners to try it chad brown tried dirt first time his pedigree says more turf sights bound to anything i like what in this matchup that king james is coming back and he lost to king of miami last time is that kind of a setup does lebron know i hope not he might not like that ranger fox john turner was in this race as well he finished just ahead of king james joe the problem was in saratoga a number of years ago i didn't see him i saw pictures before you were there i saw pictures of him there but he was there i bet he's a big five player he's probably a big fan of the show i'm a big fan of lebron's i know you are as well yeah he should be watching who wouldn't be watching i was not taking a shot at him by the way when i said that i love lebron here is the one soft power first time out for chad brown and clarovich the other one for chad brown not taking as much attention but this is one of those ones they purchased to tattersalls and this stable has had tremendous success with those runners wavy and pratt rider change will be aboard migrate we go to the four here for bill mott first time starter first time star actually has some solid turf pedigree i have to uh three turf winners out of five to try i paid a lot of money for this one 7-1 next door as well charleston strong son of flatter for jeremiah englehart but this one's a little interesting cutting back the seven furlongs coming off the layoff the two-year-old form is not bad gets lasiks the favorite here is pipeline getting turf start number two no question the pedigree says all turf did chad brown think so much of him they wanted to try him on the dirt first or do you think it was more of a dirt horse and he didn't run well enough to run him back we'll find out we back track to the two here here's islandman blinkers off he was slow in the post parade and he looks like he could be slow in the race that is a good point fifty five to one they often you know aren't able to outrun the horses they're behind do we have a graph i have some stats here's king james jose ortiz for jimmy jerkins i switched ran five for jimmy jerkins first time in the turf can be forwardly placed the one thing i'd love about horse side of that race that was a race where nobody made up any ground ranger fox john taran over the son of nyquist joel rosario aboard obviously he's dangerous off that race as well finished ahead of king james in some ways doors to beat 15 to one my cousin richard will be ricardo santana junior aboard gets a lot of turf pedigree trying the turtle first time from the sire and on the dam side as well though the dam didn't do much running and didn't win on the turf i'm gonna be stepping up in class from a maiden 40. and then mach 1 danny gargan will cut back in distance after showing speed going longer danny gardens a dangerous trainer the problem is he claimed this horse from wesley ward tough guy to claim from and improve but i didn't think was totally impossible again this is start of the pick four wide open race here to kick off the sequence you can follow along get all the stats of the horses trainers and jockeys in today's races with free aqua base past performances visit naira.com tv schedule to download your free past performances on all the action on today's program let's take a look closer look here at soft power one of a couple in the race for chad brown and again flavian pratt aboard six to one right now yeah this is my top choice in the race i've just found that these clarity runners from tattersalls have very much been runners now the dam produced a couple of foals over in europe didn't do a lot of running but did win it's a it's juddmont pedigree going back to the second family and perhaps that's one of the reasons they were interested in buying this horse is chad brown has that long relationship with judd mont i just sort of went in the angle that these runners have done well coming over from tattersall it's a bit of a guess but there's plenty of turf pedigree he makes a very good appearance handling himself really well right now strange to see from this barn that ownership group at six to one on the board well you've got the other chad brown pipeline taking so much attention so maybe people are pairing looking at those horses and you know it's i wouldn't worry sometimes about the price i think bricks and mortar paid 18 when he won his debut for whatever that's worth as smart as the betting public is yeah occasionally they miss meanwhile there's ranger fox seven to two joel rosario one of the absolute best in the business aboard with more on joel let's go to our hall of famer gary stevens guys let's go back to the uh kentucky derby uh with rock your world he uh he didn't handle the crowd well on the walk over he didn't saddle well and he was immature in the starting gate he got himself left and basically what you do is a jockey when you get ping-ponged around like he did at the start he had his world rocked you go into protection mode with your horse you start doing checks is he all right you have to understand these 1200 pound horses when they collect glide like that at the start of a race it can basically knock the wind out of them it takes them an eighth of a mile to get their air back if they're going to get it back at all he knew his race was over early on in the kentucky derby and you start thinking about his next race just get him around there sound happy as you can getting back to california that's exactly what they did but how is he going to handle the crowd today and what's joel rosario going to do any different today than what he did in the kentucky derby well he's got to get away from the gate better than he did in the derby guys but smaller field and i'm sure he's going to have him very focused when he goes into the gate well we know he's got as cool a customer as can be who will be aboard him this afternoon in joel he does and you know what happened when he broke a little slow javier castellano who was on highly motivated outside of him he saw that joelle broke slow and he shut the door on him and that was good race riding nothing dirty about that at all great race riding you see a chief rival get left but that's what happened after he broke slow well there is rosario he's on ranger fox 7-2 right now let's head downstairs to maggie got a lot of horses to talk about we'll try to go through them quickly as we want to take a look at the duo of first time starters on the rail 4 trainer chad brown is soft power they did pay 200 000 guineas for this horse at the tattersall's yearling sale and as andy said a nice pedigree the dam actually half debated breath who has sired quite a few stakes winners over here in the states too he looks great out in the racetrack but i just felt as though he in the paddock he wasn't that you know turned on for this race doesn't often mean much with a chad brown horse they look they're ready once they get into the gate but fitness wise i question it just slightly not going to be surprised when he wins but i think i want to take the wait and see approach with him number four migrate they did pay a lot for this son of candy ride going back away it's actually maybe a little bit more of a productive dirt family but there's been plenty of turf horses in there and he looks like a turf horse great intelligent honest head and eye to him i love the way he's put together really fit for belmont first time starter too handled himself beautifully i just wonder if seven furlongs might be a little bit on the shorter side for him charleston strong comes back now as a three-year-old he's done very very well i love this spot for him too as he gets lasik for this first start back and he looks ready to go he'll be my long shot selection with louis cya as a board number six pipeline the other chad brown in here no difference i didn't think he looked quite ready for his debut he still looked and acted the same but i do think the surface change should move him up again a bit and number 10 is mach 1 1 for danny gargan he didn't handle the second turn well in that two-turn route race at gulfstream park thinking getting back to a one-term for this bigger horse that obviously does have enough speed to make him effective going shorter should suit him well greg he is six to one maggie thank you interested to see we know kendrick when he's on a speed horse he takes advantage and mach 1 is showing the ability sprinting i know he's coming out of a mile race but he's shown to be quick sprinting as well yeah but he's not as fast as ranger fox if that one wants to be aggressive as you say coming out of a route race uh is unlikely as fast but you're wrong i mean in a sprint race too back he did have real sprint speed so we'll see i wasn't a big fan but i wouldn't be shocked if he won this race it's race a bit up for grabs i'm gonna hope soft power runs but i the horse maggie mentioned charleston strong i think is interesting as well i picked the race one five eight and maybe why the betting public a little bit cooler on soft power for chad brown is because they're betting chad brown with pipeline exactly and he has you know a dirt race with a good figure to go on and he does have some tert pedigree but these are races where there's a lot of options and so there's no surprise that there's no short price first pick four of the afternoon on belmont stakes day it is pipeline the six the five to two favorite for chad brown john gunther with javier castellano in the irons going seven eighths on the widener turf course we'll send it upstairs to john imbrio with the call waiting right now for charleston strong my cousin rich and mach 1. and ranger fox is also still behind the gate so it'll be a few moments before race number two which is seven furlongs on the widened turf course and the turf is good joel rosario right now is off number eight ranger fox behind the gate good as we do see ranger fox giving the assistant starters some trouble they have applied the blindfold so what they'll do is they'll remove joel rosario spin him around a couple times here and um and just kind of disorient him just a little bit so he doesn't know where he is they've got him in now joelle will climb aboard and once he's aboard and they're about ready to start they will remove that blindfold ranger fox to the gate jackie rosario gets back aboard next up will be my cousin rich and the mach 1 will complete the field and they're all in line they're off it was a hesitant beginning for migrate and the first time starter soft power ranger fox is out for the early lead mach 1's on the outside next and second and charleston strong is third then it is king james next in fourth followed on the inside by island man and theft my cousin rich on the outside is in sixth position followed by pipeline in seventh a break of almost three lengths to soft power and another two and a half to migrate who trails in ninth opening quarter mile over the good turf in 22 and four fifth seconds ranger fox leads here by a length mach one on the outside and second down at the hedge is charleston strong in third and right alongside is king james next and fourth then it is a pipeline and on his outside is my cousin rich followed by island man soft power farther back is a migrate who continues to trail the half was running 46 in two fifth seconds it's ranger fox mike one king james on the outside and in behind is charleston strong in fourth pipeline is next soft power looking for a way through got bounced around there in the stretch and there's an eighth of a mile to the finish it is ranger fox charleston strong is all out on the outside soft power is now coming on it is ranger fox soft power driving up on the outside ranger fox and soft power it's a photo finish did ranger fox hold on or did soft power get there in the final strides very tight finish in here tough trip for soft power this first timer who runs a monster race not sure if it was in defeat or if he did get up it was tight i'd like to think that he wasn't in defeat but i think it was oh i think he got the we're watching another angle and he may well have gotten this photo uh miraculous did not break um had to wait to get through traffic in the stretch and right there at the wire he got his nose down greg and i think soft power may have won this photo wow what a performance it does look like it we're gonna wait for it of course to become official uh if it is soft power maggie nine to two here on this first timer yeah he got it he got it and he ran well considering that the pace for the most part held together and he ran down and he got ranger fox who suffers a close defeat here once again but a very nice debut for this european import french bread by invincible spirits and they had to be patient with them paying a decent amount for him at the yearling sale but it paid off right away as soon as he got to the track guys nine to two on soft power who indeed does get up there is chad brown he has a nice three-year-old here in the debut this horse had trouble in the stretch and he was resilient but let's give flavian pratt a lot of credit with the rails down you understand the inside paths are much fresher he could have angled this horse around and lost ground and he never would have won this race yeah he got caught in a little traffic it took a minute to extract himself and get through but it was better to do what he did than to swing wide lose all that ground and momentum and he never would have won this race flavian pratt doesn't ride in new york that often but he's a great rider he's been turning heads the limited time he has been here let's take another look into the stretch and here's soft power coming out of that turn i mean you see him he's sitting chilly but he realizes you don't want to get spun out wide and he's going to have to find some room and he's stalled in traffic he's got the other chad brown and he's saying hey we got the same trainer and you're out of horse get out of my way and he gets through and it still felt like ranger fox had a measure but he exploded at the end he got all of the bob greg but the way he ran he deserved it i can't wait to see this horse next time what a performance first out for soft power and yeah his stable mate making life a little difficult adam on him as he was coming out of that turn into the stretch does not matter in the end gets the win instead of invincible spirit and not a bad start for the connections who have searched results in the acorn and domestic spending in the manhattan and there's seth clarkman walking with chad brown those two incredibly formidable together well as seth garvin said at the eclipse awards chad and i make a great great team and i say that and that chad brown and anybody make a great team that's true seems to win a lot in these silks though doesn't let's take a look at the lanes coming down the line and there's that bump got that room came through and uh this is just an exceptional ride and you can see why chad brown was very comfortable using him on domestic spending used him at churchill using him again today he's a fabulous rider we don't see him here a lot we don't see him here enough a nose victory in the truest sense of the word in the end getting up soft power over ranger fox one eight five four prices when we come back and a special edition the first of the season of jonathan kitchen with card talk as he puts michael mccarthy back and thanks for joining us here on america's day at the races on this belmont stakes day as always we are brought to you in part by naira bets but any track anytime anywhere with your naira beds well today's second race went to this guy right here chad brown uh looking at this performance uh for the son of invincible spirit i had to wait a little while he bought him at the tattersall sale but he rewarded you immediately once you got him to the track yeah you know what we really liked this horse he was down at stone street in ocala last winter and um he looked like one of our better two-year-old turf prospects roamed the saratoga unfortunately had an injury it wasn't too bad but we just gave him the time like we normally do and mr clarkman's so patient with all these sources and we gave him the time and when we brought him back he looked even as good as he did last year so it was worth the wait won't have to wait too long till we see you again on this card having runners in three of the grade ones chad let's first talk about maybe the shortest price of those in the grade one acorn and that is search results how is she doing she ran magnificently uh though in defeat in the grade one kentucky oaks yeah she's doing super you know she we just observed her coming out of there after such a hard stretch duel with a great philly that she was defeated by and um she seemed to be fine and she's been working well each week and i know it's back in five weeks you know do i wish i had a little more time you always do after a tough race but she seems on her toes and ready to go and hopefully she can keep moving forward do you think the one-term mile compliments her more you know it might she showed that she can handle a mile underneath but you know you think how she sometimes maybe just hangs a little bit late in those mile on eighth races a mile would be would be perfect for her you would think all right well good way to kick off the day here best of luck later thank you very much all right chad brown lining up for a big day here on this belmont stakes guard he also has runners in the just a game and the manhattan greg that's the way you'd like to get things started and and a horse debuting who could have a very big future by the way the first two winners on this card horses that i ride ortiz jr was originally named on it's got to be hard you know you're irad and listen he's rooting for connections like mike ripoli with todd fletcher and saint elias in the first race and obviously chad brown and harvard stables he's had so much success with but it's got to be tough you know to be watching these races and seeing his mounts but there are also amounts that he will get back the connections will be you know honoring his mounts going forward our first grade one on belmont stakes day is coming up next the woody stevens presented by nasa county ida and jackie's warrior back in action off that path day mile when he had to go too fast to be able to hang on to win at a mile but he still did an incredible performance really an incredibles by both of those sources to be honest with you dream shake was able to hold on and he's run fabulously in all four of his starts but jackie's warrior showed the reason that he was able to pull off that double of the hopeful and champagne something you have to be a terrific horse to do and he put that bad start to his three-year-old year behind him slop distance he's a one-turn horse and the connections do the right thing greg by immediately returning to the kind of races that have made him successful our abr race of the week it is the 153rd running of the belmont stakes race 11 on today's card this test of the champion at a mile and a half and rombauer the preakness champion taking that massive move forward for owners that again they tried to sell this horse but because of kova they were unable to they have a band of just two mares and now they are classic winners with this horse you gotta like a story like that right with so much hardship that people had and be able to have this horse and have a success like that and and and not to compare that to obviously the overall big picture but uh listen this was a very different horse in the preakness it's a relatively lightly raised relatively young horse maybe he's just starting to blossom and he's got bigger and better things ahead of them i kind of want to see it again but if we see it again we also may be seeing the winner could be and now michael mccarthy he's had some big wins in his career obviously city light he's got smooth legs straight but a classic victory puts you into another stratosphere so he's dealing with it all and as a result of winning a classic you get to talk to jonathan kinchin on card talk i think the horse racing world had to pay attention back in 2018 when you had 30 horses under your care around 30 horses and five of them were in the breeders cup what was that year like for you you know it was a great end of the summer start to the fall horses really got good at the right time had a few horses that had been good throughout the year city of light vibrance got very good just before the breeders cup and was phenomenal that day and running third in the breeders cup juvenile phillies liam the charmer had won the charlie whittingham i mean it's just one of those things where everything sort of fell into place axelrod was good during the summer and indiana derby pennsylvania derby right place right time horses were healthy the next year we came back and pitched a donut so it happens in the pegasus obviously city of light did your bank accounts in favor did a lot of favors for a lot of people that day i couldn't have been happier for my guys that really did the heavy lifting to get the horse there throughout the year just the way everything's set up seemed like it was coming towards nightfall the rain the lights on the racetrack the ambience the music the money's always an added bonus but when you get a horse that's that good thing that you want most is to do right by him and i think we did our job properly that day quite a horse quite a day one of my favorite images in racing at least in my time watching is that picture of your daughter saying goodbye to city of light how much he meant to the family and how much uh we love these these four-legged animals that give us so much it was one of those types of deals where you're actually letting go you know you reach the pinnacle the day before of winning a fantastic horse race in front of a televised crowd and your emotions are high and the next day it's over you know horse is going on to his second career stud career which seems to be well received but when you're letting go it's tough and you know it was tough on my daughter that for two years the horse had had brought a lot of joy and a lot of good times to everyone that was involved with them so when you're a young kid and you have heroes and you have things that you relate to and special times at something like that and all of a sudden they walk out of the door one day it's tough it was tough on everybody it was tough on me my daughter was upset my wife was upset it's still hard to think about something like that because so much of what you do revolves around these animals every day you try to do the best for them and you may have a certain connection with one horse or another you've been around some good ones obviously you were around rags to riches when you were working with todd fletcher and she won the belmont stakes but now you're back here uh with your own uh classic winner ron bauer who won the preakness and now shows up here and and should be uh first second third choice i would imagine uh in this belmont state would that mean to you belmont's a special place for me uh august of 2002 i came to work back here for todd too many big races to count obviously rags to riches is right up there at the top to be able to be around a philly like her and the things that she accomplished in such a short amount of time to be a part of her belmont to be here for palace malice's belmont special times test of a champion we'll go over there and things will kind of come a little bit full circle here on saturday with our own runner in the belmont do me a favor try not to make me cry in your post race interview i'm just glad i got through this without crying this might be the first interview all week i haven't cried good luck thanks ron bauer can he do it again and michael mccarthy he said after he won that race this was for his entire family who weren't able to be with them there in baltimore they are on hand today well i hope that they're good luck charms coming i'm surprised he allowed them after they won without them there but of course michael's been around for a long time he worked as a assistant trainer for todd pletcher and got to know him years ago i think even before i work for for naira he's a terrific trainer it's nice to see him getting a shot in the spotlight speech cc smooth light straight of course city of light some of the big ones he's had in the past putting that belmont stakes blanket together full of the carnations who will be wearing it after a mile and a half in the great one belmont stakes we'll be back more coming up but our belmont takes day coverage right after this [Music] concerts too our church genesis the weeknd all already announced to be performing at ubs arena shortly after it opens let's check in with maggie wolfendale for more eric church as well greg as i'm pleased to be joined by harry coughlin the ceo of the nassau county industrial development agency and harry we were talking about the ubs arena and what it's going to mean to the county nassau county and what it's going to bring to the community well most importantly as you know with covid the hospitality industry has been severely negatively impacted so what a great time to be opening ubs arena to have spectators back here at the belmont stakes and what it means is people coming here to experience everything that nassau county has to offer from our beautiful beaches on a beautiful day like today restaurants hotels shopping it's just it's just a great opportunity here for the county and our residents but today they should be at the track in a long history over 150 years of the belmont stakes and the belmont stakes racing festival now what does this partnership be been like for you in particular with belmont park and nassau county it's been a great partnership and it really allows us the opportunity to spread the word about everything nassau county has to offer but we get to come out here and enjoy this with our fellow residents and visitors and it's just been a great partnership for quite a few years now well harry thank you so much for everything you do for nassau county and for your time here thanks for your time all right harry coughlin of the nassau county industrial development agency doing great things here in our backyard greg they're the sponsors of this great one woody stevens with jackie's warrior back in action champagne winner here at belmont last october and coming off that grade two win on derby day in the pat day mile great one woody stevens is next [Music] [Music] for three generations the bond racing stable has held to a simple racing and retiring our commitment to our horses is reflected in everything we do now you can join our grade one winning team with racing partnerships starting as low as three thousand dollars bond racing stables three generations of thoroughbred excellence back on america's day at the races the first of eight great ones on this belmont stakes program coming up in this woody stevens with jackie's warrior the odds on favorite of course a race named after amanda put together five in a row conquistador cielo caveat swell crim fresh danzig connection as well and he trained dancing the side of the great sire of dance connection as well and woody stevens achieved something in racing that there's no chance that anybody will ever surpass that is the horse to be jackie's warrior son of hillandale stallion mclean's music let's head downstairs and check in for the first time today with paula duka and jonathan kinchin what's up guys uh beautiful day right yesterday was a little bit dicey for a while but today it's wonderful i'm excited about this race it's one of my favorite races all year we follow the derby trail so much and then there's this mile and a quarter sometimes it's too far for these horses even the mile and eighth it's a perfect opportunity for them to actually get to a distance that they can excel at the seven for a long time yeah and i know you're a fan of jackie's warrior and in the path day mile was able to shake off no pun intended dream shake and for the whole length of the stretch it looked like dream shake was just going to grind on by jonathan it just didn't happen yeah i mean i think with jackie's warrior that's interesting about that race is that that race was at a one turn mile eight furlongs the race today the woody stevens will be at seven furlongs in my opinion the eight furlongs hurt jackie's warrior here and helped dream shank and i think conversely today the seven furlongs is going to help jackie's warrior and potentially hurt dream shake i could see that i can understand where you're going there flavian pratt off a nice win in the last race now what do you do with cattle river makes complete sense cutting back from a mile in eighth i like the other cutback horse in here at a price nova rags but cattle river in the arkansas derby uh ran a good second i mean was to super stock that day his couple times that he is sprinted he's ran well this is the profile you want to see in this race reminds me a little bit of bayern who won the woody stevens an impressive fashion they have speed going long but it's just maybe a taste too far for them when you finally cut them back with that speed they're still close enough to get tactical position but they finish because they have that good foundation i understand the cattle river experiment here the idea it's a great spot for him i just worry he's run into a very freaky talented horse in jackie's warrior and what do you do with drain the clock seems like the public is really cold on him yeah i mean i think when you have it we'll see it later in the mile as well i think when you have two horses that have speed and the better of the speeds draws outside it really puts uh puts drain the clock under a lot of pressure what are you gonna do are you gonna go are you gonna take back it makes it very difficult i also find the one a little bit interesting greg nova rags another horse on the cutback a little bit like cattle river but is he talented enough well we will find out uh he has put together some effort he's sort of been on the fringe of the better three-year-olds this year he would certainly need to step up and improve the challenge here yeah i don't like training the clock's chances i love that they're taking a shot in here but i don't think it's good enough and those wins are just incredible something that hard to imagine ever being equaled again in this sport right um my favorite record is three doubles in an inning i don't think anyone will get four but i don't think i think they'll break joe dimaggio's streak before they break that streak here is nova rags bill mott junior alvarado horse who was second in the cmf davis not sure that he's good enough but i love the cut back for him i think he's overachieved going longer and he's really a better sprinter drain the clock jose ortiz again filling in for his brother here for saffy joseph he's a cool overachiever and this is the right race to run him in i just don't think he's fast enough but he's won five or seven races yeah nice resume he's put together but he's got to deal with this horse now who is faster and is accomplished he is such a tiger up front and he has shown that he can take pressure on the front end and still finish off races and he cuts back an eighth of a mile from his last race this horse gave him all jackie's warrior could handle in that pat day mile he came up just short i keep looking at him and saying they keep throwing the wolves eventually he's going to take a step back and he keeps proving me wrong he's definitely a player two-lane trick he's 11-1 for charitabeau i'd like to know where this source got his name he's going to have to step forward but he's lightly raced into mischief and outside caddo river who at a time for brad cox was one of his top derby horses he's my top choice i think if he's going to turn out to be a top grade one performer it'll be in sprint races he does have to show he can win without the lead but he finished second a seven for a long race belmont last year that was the strongest maiden race that we ran anywhere last year including a very good winner in speaker's corner and greatest honor who was so good in florida finishing third i like his chances today to stalk and run him down you look at all the positives for jackie's warrior in this race he's five for seven he started his career four for four he has a grade one win on this racetrack at a mile and he proved he is far from done in that pat day mile he's gonna be the one in front and he gets a shorten up from a mile to just seven eighths today no it it all points to him being very tough to beat and listen i pick cattle river but i have no illusions that jackie's warriors weigh the horse to beat and what he showed last time is that not only can he run fast races but he can win races while taking significant pressure he is a fabulous racehorse won two great ones here last year one at saratoga the hopeful one in the champagne and his one turn record is spotless here is drayne the clock right next door he just went gate to wire in the bay shore he won the swale as well but he doesn't appear quick enough if he's gonna win the race that way today yeah i listen this is the right race to run him in it's a great one it's a career-making race but the reality of the bay shore was there was only one other possible speed and that horse fell to his face at the start he's actually come back and won two races subsequent so he had a basic cakewalk absolutely waltzing on the front end he did what he had to do but the truth is if there was another speed in the race the second place finisher whiskey double might have run him down very nice horse but this is a major gut test for him he is eight to one on the board odds-on favoritism on jackie's warrior coming off that victory in the pat day mile with more on the favorite let's go to gary stevens yeah greg i'm a big fan of jackie's warrior he's done nothing wrong he was gallant in his win in the pat de mile after having a couple of months off and looks to me that he's been appointed specifically for the woody stevens today at grade one very prestigious race for a three-year-old i think we're going to see a little change of strategy as possible and dream shake today you know the the field and the pat day mile it was a large field and uh flavian wanted to make sure that he got positioned early on and i think he sent dream shake away from their heart he showed speed that he'd never shown before and looked like a winner several different times through the stretch but jackie's warrior would never let him buy you know the the bottom horse cattle river he's got speedy i don't think he has jackie's warriors type of speed but during the clock he does he he's quick early i don't think he's as fast as him but he's quick early so don't be surprised if you see um vlog come away from there a little bit quieter today he broke his maiden from off the pace and it was his fastest buyer that he's running his career that day the first out of his life so don't be surprised if you don't see him not going head and head early on with jackie's warrior greg gary thank you three to one on dream shake he has tackled some tough company they all got to beat jackie's warrior though maggie who's the four to five favorite and greg i didn't have to wait long to see my favorite horse in racing on this belmont stakes card it is jackie's warrior i loved him from when he won the saratoga special then the champagne and again i love him but i did get to see him in his comeback race as a three-year-old out at oaklawn park in the southwest several things i think went into him in his somewhat poor performance a the track it was sloppy probably doesn't like a sloppy track b and most obviously it was much too far for him he is more of that one turn horse six to a one turn mile and c i didn't think he actually looked quite as fit as he needed to be well now thirds start off of a layoff after that win in the pat day mile he is a tank he is solidified himself he is so much more of a just a muscular looking type than what he was going back to oaklawn park i love him i think he wins the woody stevens this feels like his race as the one who gave him a run for his money last time out in the pad day miles number four dream shake i respect him i think a little less ground is going to play into his favor does return here at belmont wearing front wraps front wraps only two for the first time i don't love to see that here as he ships in for trainer peter erton like i said i just prefer jackie's warrior but one that i think is interesting at a price that ten to one is number one nova rags for bill mott i have said consistently uh throughout this three-year-old campaign that he really hasn't gotten any bigger from two to three and while he's filled out a little bit he's still a little bit handier looking smaller so i think this turn back from those two mylan and eighth efforts really may play into his favor i love jackie's warrior greg but i think nova rags can get a piece maggie thank you ten to one double digit odds on anova rags i'm with maggie i'm alive and some small doubles with nova rags as well as cotto river who's my top choice and i think the thing about nova rags is i believe he's going to be better sprinting and i love of course cutting back and distance and i think he's been overachieving in these route races and he's going to do even better when he cuts back to sprint races no illusions though i know it's going to be tough to beat jackie's warrior but as far as caddo river his connections were thinking of running in the mat win a race he probably wouldn't have won because i saw a powerful performance by the winner in that race last week and a race that would do nothing for him in his career this is a race that's career defining you win the woody stevens a grade one you've made you're a stallion made this can be a career defining race and i understand why they stretched him out because those are the triple crown races and you want to try to make triple crown races i think if he's going to be a top horse though it's going to be going shorter now maybe he'll never be a top horse a very good horse but not be able to be a grade one horse but if he's going to be a grade one horse this is the kind of race he's going to win so i i applaud them for taking a chance in this race and i'm picking them on top i think kylie river stalks and passes horses to win today two best races you could argue that he's ever run in his life they came at a mile going seven eighths today he's five to one caddo river he did show some ability to lay close to some hot sprint paces early in his career but they all got a catch and pass jackie's warrior to win this grade one woody stevens presented by nassau county industrial development agency john imbreal with the call of our first of eight grade ones on today's program and we're waiting now for tulane tryst and caddo river there in the gate number one nova rags has been backed out of the starting gate now back in once again set and they're off nova rags from that inside post but quickly pass there by drain the clock drain the clock is the early leader cattle rivers on the outside and now jackie who's warrior is moving up and into third then it's dream shake next in fourth followed by tulane tryst and nova rags who broke well is now the trailer in sixth and now jackie's warrior has taken the lead from drain the clock jackie's warrior leads here by a neck drain the clock on the outside and second the opening quarter went in 22 seconds caddo river is in third by a head dream shake to his inside and fourth and at the back are tulane tryst and nova rags as the three-year-olds race midway around the far turn jackie's warrior leads here by a head drain the clock on the outside in second they've opened up four lengths on dream shake in third then caddo river nova rags and tulane trest it is a battle into the stretch here between jackie's warrior and drain the clock train the clock on the outside jackie's warrior jackie's warriors holding on to the lead drain the clock on the outside is in second nova racks has now moved into third as they pass the furlong marker it is jackie's warrior all out to hold off drain the clock the two of them continue the battle to the finish drain the clock jackie's warrior a terrific finish in the woody stevens that goes to drain the clock by a head jackie's warrior was second and the seventh furlongs what in one minute 22 and one fifth seconds the call the start cost jackie's warrior he still ran brilliant here in defeat drain the clock the win and jose ortiz filling in again for his brother first three on the card amounts that would have gone to iran ortiz jr no question that drain the clock deserves an enormous amount of credit for being involved in this pace it was a race that nobody was able to close into but maybe that's because the best two horses ran one two uh valiant win for him he came back he looked to be beaten in here he was able to outgame jackie's warrior taking nothing away from him this is an awful beat for jackie's warrior who ran a tremendous race completely blowing the break and rushing up into what was an extremely honest pace he didn't win the race but he won the war tremendous effort by both these horses i couldn't have been more wrong about train the clock i under estimated him going in and was dead wrong well very ecstatic connections here and i think jackie's wearing defeat may have even gained some fans with that performance let's go downstairs to maggie kind of want to cry a little bit because i've never seen jackie break that badly and they went 22 flat for that opening quarter so that means jackie's warrior had to go 21-1 21-2 i i don't know what exactly happened with him at the break but joelle did what he had to do i mean you have to with the speed horse go on with it but the fact of the matter is he was battling another very talented speed horse a very talented sprinter both of these horses i think are probably best at seven furlongs and as you guys say it doesn't really take away from jackie's war and what he's done on the racetrack don't worry jackie i still love you but congratulations to savvy joseph and his team would drain the clock as he gets another graded stakes victory here greg in his first grade one yeah how big is that for these connections to get a grade one on the resume for the son of mclean's music he has now won four of his last five in the first grade one of his career does so it's 7-1 yeah congratulations and that's why you run in these races and he may not have looked fast enough on paper but he sure knows how to win races and yes was he a little bit lucky that jackie's worry got left no question about it but you've got to be in these races to win them and he ran his race nobody was able to pick up the pieces they went fast i thought nova rags was going to steamroll by these horses in the stretch seemed like raiding dream shake were good tactics nobody could gain in the top two best two horses ran one two tough beat for jackie's warrior but a tip of the cap to drain the clock and his connections they ran the right race and they won the right race slam dunk racing madiquette saffy joseph and jose ortiz filling in again for his injured brother we just ran or they just did out in louisville that first to churchill downs we're showing you the first five in the card under the twin spires we're going to show you the opener right now they began their card thirty thousand knob one is a two lifetime claiming race six for longs let's go to travis stone they're in the gate and they're off and kirby bounces out on top mahomes money is right there south side swig shoots up on through to take charge south side swig out there to set the pace opens up a length and a half hooper drives the boat in tight toward the rail racing and second mahomes money comes away third kick and kirby broke on top losing ground fourth west warpath is fifth highest mandated sixth lebanon diem is the trailer down inside seventh four furlongs from home the opening quarter sharp 21 and two fifth seconds and it's south side swig sailing round the far turn in front hooper drives the boat down the chase from second mahomes money spun out three wide pushed on for more speed from third highest mandate cruising up inside while fourth a break of four back to west warpath and fifth lemon mdm is far behind at the top of the stretch where south side swig turns for home but hooper drives the boat bears down here's hooper drives the boat to the front south side swing is back into second mahomes money is third late in the scene is west warpath from fourth 16th pole hooper drives the boat is clear by three as they come for the wire west warp path followed by highest mandate and mahomes money all chasing hooper drives the boat the two length winner in the end west warp path highest mandate and mahomes money hooper drives the boat usually is quick had the rail but comes from off it to win today 19 winner i think the highlight of my day is going to be in this race was on tape delay when they started i said i like the four two and seven and our producer terence said the finish was 136. so it's a good thing i didn't give out my opinions before the race but i don't mind telling you i was really clueless in this race maybe don't play churchill today if you're andy sterling uh we'll get to that second in a little bit back at belmont first of eight great ones on today's card drain the clock never hurts to get a little lucky in a grade one but he ran very valiant as well right you don't want to take away from the race that he ran he still ran a tremendous race and absolutely the best race he's run congratulations to the connections who've done an excellent job with this horse and they understood it wasn't easy to win but they also understood that this was the race they had to be in and now drain the clock who i'm assuming isn't the gelding he's has a career-making race another son of mclean's music and mclean's music who stands in hillandale is really having a terrific career as a sire sorry we see more from the racetrack but we're starting to see a lot on the racetrack woody stevens winner and the blanket to prove it this son of mcclain's music out of an archmare for slam dunk racing madiquette stables and he took some fight to jackie's warrior for sure it looks like he could have packed it in mid-stretch and he battles back here to get this grade one victory now this was just an excellent for a great horse race you feel bad for jackie's warrior losing this race but as you said after the race i don't think it took anything away from him it probably added to his reputation no question i can't wait to see him back and get a clean break but it's drain the clocks day in our parade of great ones and joel rosario he just had no other option with the way he he broke out of the gate he had to do what he did and it shows his incredible speed i mean when they went 22.09 it's not like they went 22 and four and he just sort of cruised up right into there and outran a very fast horse for the lead the race was dominated on the front end jackie's warrior doesn't deserve to lose but drain the clock deserves to win so how quick was jackie warriors after the bad break how quick was that first quarter 21-3 at least he spotted him at least a couple of likes in there right and especially because when you break slow like that they often drop back it's hard to break slowly and then get right into gear and it's not like joelle was you know he just sort of moved up in there on his own impressive no question in defeat but drain the clock takes the woody stevens we have a mile and a half race coming up next in the grade 2 brooklyn a little precursor to today's belmont stakes which is coming up later this afternoon our abr race of the week with the two-year-old champ of the preakness winner going head-to-head can't wait to see this belmont we were showing in-house the uh replay of affirmed an alley dart a race 43 years ago i was lucky enough to be here for and there have been so many great belmont stakes over the year and it's such a memorable race and one you never want to miss how much is joelle now itching for a clean break in that race yes yes reminding joel rosario of his two unfortunate trips that he's had over the last year obviously rock your world you want to know right what can he do and the other thing that's frustrating for connections is the derby was a front-running race what if he had broken cleanly and been able to be in front could have been their trip yeah not to be we're going to take a break going the distance of the belmont we'll hear from a man who's won it three times before hall of famer how do you ride this race luis cyrus and john velasquez are hoping they ride it right today we'll be back the ultimate accolade for a racehorse is to be named horse of the year to be enshrined to the hall of fame is to achieve immortality as a stallion genetic immortality is defined in two races on fox sports 2 and welcome to those just joining us on valley sports southern california and san diego great to have you with us on one of the biggest days of racing in the calendar year anywhere in the world here on belmont stakes day eighth grade ones we just saw the first of eight greg wolfe andy sterling with you rest of our cast and crew as well and what a performance we just saw on that woody stevens no it was a great race and a memorable race between two very good horses uh drain the clock getting the victory over an unlucky jackie's warrior but they put on a tremendous show dream shake didn't run as well as he did in churchill downs but drain the clock was a very able able fill-in for him and he got it done a terrific and memorable horse race and that's what days like today are all about the big one of course everyone waiting for third and final leg of this triple crown mile and a half test of the champion and essential quality went into the derby undefeated looking to deliver not only gdolphin but brad cox their first ever wins in a triple crown classic yeah but considering even the brad cox been around for 15 years he hasn't been to the upper echelon for that long and it's tough to get your opportunities obviously um a real chance he may get a win in the kentucky derby with mandalone but essential quality he's his champion coming back the belmont stakes is so much the right race for him now he's got to go out in the racetrack and get it done you would expect he is going to get a much cleaner trip not be forced nearly as wide as he was in that kentucky derby which bodes well for his chances today's race is brought to you by claiborne farm belmont park they've been upgraded on the main track now too fast on the main track so we'll get that updated fast and good on the turf it's pretty great right we were we just left here about eight or nine hours ago i think when we got home uh and the track was a sea of slop and once again a remarkable job by our crack track maintenance crew well this race coming up it's the brooklyn presented by northwell health grade two and it has the same distance as the belmont stakes mile and a half distance we don't see a lot so how do you ride races like this let's go to a man who's won it three times well greg uh you've got to be patient you've got to breathe and you've got to have a horse that's patient no matter what the running style is and a horse that will relax underneath you and breathe and breathe consistently you know it's like like a giant playground out there or an ocean with that never ends uh easy to get disoriented if you don't know the track fortunately for the entire belmont stakes today all of these riders have multiple experiences going a mile and a half at belmont park and i'll just give you an example most tracks in the united states are either a mile in circumference or a mile an eighth or shorter in circumference it's a mile and a half from finish line to finish line or start to finish line the belmont stakes so when you're going down the back stretch where normally the half my poll would be is the six furlong pole uh it's two furlongs away from what you're used to on most race tracks when i wrote uh victory gallop i'd written him in the preakness they wanted him up close to the pace and we felt like the only way that we could win this race is to sit back let him relax and just come with a big big run of which he did he started picking horses off around the far turn on his own with very little encouragement and as i came into the stretch i said well i might run fourth here then i said i'm gonna run third at least i'm gonna run second and then as the wire was approaching i'm like i'm gonna nail this son of a gun uh real quiet and it was a big race for me i'm proud of that ride one of the better rides i think that i ever put on in my career and i don't believe in the perfect ride but that's as close to the most perfect ride that i ever made guys what a feeling that has to be in a ride that you think is up there as one of the greats of all time uh yeah i'm gonna say gary that was a perfect ride and he's right i mean perfection is almost impossible thing to achieve but obviously he was helped real quiet moved a little soon but he was also hurt the real quiet came out and fouled him those who were coming in the winner was probably going to win by a little bit more than that head bob but i mean you can't time it more perfectly saved all the ground that was just an absolutely brilliant race ride todd fletcher is going to have three tries to the belmont stakes later today he's going to have two shots out of brooklyn in a mile and a half coming up [Music] following c and happy soul face winners for the first time to kick off belmont stakes week following c was in cruise control throughout and galloped home six and a half lengths in front scoring an amazing 100 buyer speed figure happy soul who recorded the highest buyer speed figure for a two-year-old philly when breaking her maiden in may came back and strolled by 11 and a half lengths in the astoria sitting is believing two run happies two freakish romps at belmont park by a combined 18 links run happy standing install one at cleveland farm [Music] it's going to be very close and it's going to be a philly in the moment 100 years of belmont history the first movie to win it in over a century and they're coming down to the finish and it will be palace ellis tavern and irish warcraft come down to the line together it is tabret and jose ortiz on the belmont stakes [Music] this is what an incredible history the history that todd fletcher has had in this race yes a philly in the belmont one of his three victories and he stacks up pretty good against the rest of this field who's still all in search of their first belmont stakes win uh yeah i mean he's uh he's a great trainer and needs no introduction who's won pretty much any big race you can possibly name but he's really gotten horses to overachieve not just in the belmont but in any of these long distance races he's got two in the brooklyn today he understands the right kind of horses to go the 12 furlong the long distance dirt races he's got the two co-favorites coming up in this mile and a half race next as well in the brooklyn let's head downstairs to paul and jk yeah polly todd has had a lot of success in these long dirt races i'm convinced there's no other trainer in the world that has more dirt stallions out there and you become a stallion by winning these long distance dirt races no he really has he's had so much success and you know andy talking about you know what he's done um with the three wins out of the 30 starts but he could have almost six to seven with a lot of other horses like commissioner like destin like some other horses that we mentioned in the preview show that he's been so close and he just has the knack to get these horses to go long distance on turf and or yeah and look and and i think today he's got some chances as well with known agenda a horse that i liked a little bit in the derby didn't run particularly well that day but but todd's had a lot of horses that don't particularly run well in the derby but then they show back up here five weeks later in the belmont stakes and they do their running yeah they do and when you look at his other two runners burbonic and overtook they're really going to have to improve especially overtook he's i think they've taken a little bit of a chance here blinkers are going on that runner and it's pretty funny that known agenda by curling overtook by curling rags the riches was the one that beat curling for one of his three belmont stakes so we've talked about his mile and a half in the belmont stakes later but luckily enough if you're a todd pletcher fan he's got two runners in here going a mile and a half in the brooklyn the six moretti the seven aja weed i think they're both live horses did you have a preference uh over the two of those well to me this was a confusing race i thought this can go a lot of different ways because the pace scenario what's gonna happen early in here is ryze the guy going to go to the front end or going to have to lay back because there are some other speed horses in here and when going a mile and a half that could be very very dangerous that includes the five and it also includes the california invasive magician for richard mandela that has very very good speed um i just think somebody may be able to be able to come from off the pace we watched that last race and i think a lot of people already looked on social media we got a speed favoring race track we had a horse in in the first race break dead last and circle the field i know the horse might have been the best and was the best but let's not label that uh too soon i promise andy making fun of me yesterday for never picking over a 15-1 shot has nothing to do with my selection of the three campaign here but i will be very happy if he wins and i will run up there and give handy a high five campaign is a horse that i get it his last couple races have just not been very good but you're getting some differences here some changes and i like that with these types of horses he's putting the blinkers on to hopefully solve the problem of him falling all the way back out of the race and having way too much work to do annie gets one of the most aggressive and forward type of riders in louis science now don't get me wrong louie's not putting this horse on the lead i just think louis will prevent him from being 28 uh uh you know 28 lengths off of it early in the race yeah i mean listen you're looking at a nice little price at 18 to one so can't argue with that and a lot of the guys upstairs like the seven i don't know what you like greg well we'll get back to that race in a moment by the way the two top fletchers they both had five to one on the board the two favorites are on the outside i mistakenly said that is a magician lone rock as we're back at churchill we need to bring this post parade we're just two minutes away from a start and as we see the favorite come out onto the track here this race nom win is a two lifetime one turn mile and here's tamman rashid new gelding and blinkers come off just claimed yeah it's gonna obviously have to improve off that last effort we'll see man on the moon puts blinkers on off the claim yeah another horse off the claim not familiar with the new connections but uh tough to train for a claim from al stall the zariano steve asmussen i thought it was going to be very tough in here just one for four times that's he took the words out of my mouth greg he's way the horse to beat on paper but he's one for 14. it's tough to take him eight to one tis light the way he ran an improved effort last start he did and if he can run back to that race he can win can he double tough tiger he can be forwardly placed he takes blinkers off for chris hartman if you like him you like him because he's the speed and nine to five outside last time he was on dirt he ran for 50. i like him getting back to the dirt though he ran fine on synthetics he is the logical alternative the favorite as he's only one for six ken mcpeek for what it's worth and i still would make him my top choice which means you may want to stay away from giving my opinion the first to churchill uh is just four for 39 going synthetic to dirt which this horse is doing jk paulie your thoughts on the second from churchill yeah the twin spires market mover is going to be the three uh vesariano this is a horse that when i first looked at this race i thought the horse would be odds on and maybe they'll eventually go to that point um this horse is dropping this horse is faster on figures and i love when steve asmussen is listed as the owner and he drops a horse because he doesn't have to worry about convincing his owners he gets to do what he wants to do and he knows best i think in that equation so if you want to bet the twin spires market mover or any other horse in this race go to twinspires.com paulie where are you at here i'm going to go against you guys and i the reason why is when i look at the three i look back and i go okay this horse was in for 392. and was seven to one and finished third then came back was protected in a 30-non winner of two this is a 29 winner two not that much of a difference did not improve at five to one so why would i want to take three to one or three to two on a horse this basically like andy said equal to the six to me i understand the the equation of synthetic to um uh dirt numbers for kenny mcpeek but the turf way park meet was a live meet this meet i think the six is the horse to be at eight to five we faced on synthetic back in december paul laduka and i agree paul i'm a little bit concerned for both of us that you guys agree i am worried but but i mean you know to me the deciding factor is what you said in the post parade greg veraciano is one for 14. this horse is only one for six i just rather take the horse at the same price that's had less opportunities to lose he is dropping it is a third off the bench for viseriano and meanwhile voice the main sail he faced like the king two back on synthetic that's for beach boy fans right one of their lines in one of their songs travis stone another big fan of the beach boys they're off visariano bounced around coming out of the starting gate off near the back of the pack tim and rasat is there man on the moon here comes hoist the main sail for that outside post double tough tiger backs off to be third as twice the main sail goes on with it as they head up the chute and come for the main track man on the moon is an up close second a break or two lengths back double tough tiger comes away third with sabriano advancing up inside into fourth to zeitgeist fifth damon rasat is at the back in sixth heading down the back stretch run and hoist the main sails holding on to that lead and now opens up a little bit more opens up a length and a half man on the moon's been angled off the rail now to track the pace from second meanwhile vesariano has snuck through underneath up to grab third double tough tiger three wide racing onto the far turn while fourth is light away angled outside from fifth and taman rasat is at the back in sixth three for lungs to go hoist the mainsail 23 to a 46 half mile cruising along on a one length advantage man on the moon given more rain from second double tough tiger three wide wild third visariano down inside under pressure fourth tis light away his fifth at the top of the stretch hoist the main sail turning for home with double tough tiger and man on the moon bearing down with the one for long to go hoist the main sails holding onto a tenuous lead man on the moon slicing up through between them double tough tiger outside now it's double tough tiger in front man on the moon finishing with double tough tiger these two noses up and down to the wire dead tight photo double tough tiger man on the moon maybe one two under the wire but it's tight hoist the main sail was third i believe it was double tough tiger just getting up and mitch mural deciding not to go to the front in this race him credit thought he would be the speed in here he let the six go thought it was a mistake it wasn't the number two man on the moon ran well and poor hoist the mainsail felt the weight of paula duke and i in mid-stretch can this be a game of inches five to one on double tough tiger here's our post parade back at belmont for the grade two brooklyn going a mile and a half of the main track here's you're to blame ron mcqueen originally trained by chad brown then trained by todd fletcher now with ron mcqueado trains whitmore he's had a lot of chances in these routes and he just usually comes up a little short rise the guy ian wilkes eight to one source has really blossomed in longest racing of both turf and dirt he's a long shot that has a chance big rider switch to jose ortiz john sadler sends out campaign blinkers go on he is a deep deep closer uh that should get some pace to run at a couple of years ago rocketry looked like he was going to be a star going this distance i agree and it's like he never really put it together and it just seems like he doesn't seal the deal it doesn't hurt to get joelle rosario back though speedster with kendra carmouche musical heart gotta go but i think he's gonna face more pressure than he faced last time out going 11 furlongs in the flat out first of two for todd pletcher moretti todd fletcher has under otherworldly numbers bringing layoff horses back in their routes anja we just missed a musical heart in the flat out he's my top choice he really blossomed going the longer distance and i think he has his best is yet to come worse coming from out west for hall of famer richard mandela is a magician he's going to be forwardly placed in here but he is good he kept some good company and he loves the route races and lone rock for robert tino diaduro he is on quite a streak right now and he's another horse who can be forwardly placed in this race he has definitely been improving but this is a tougher bunch than he's been facing he has won five of his last six this will be his first trip to belmont park it is the brooklyn stakes presented by northwell health let's go to gary stevens yeah guys tis magician um it's taken a while for him to really come to hand and not that he wasn't pretty good as a three-year-old but as a four-year-old he's really turned the corner right now for richard mandel he started 16 times in his career in his last race in the tokyo city at grade three at santa anita he was actually second in that race last year as a three-year-old he came back and just annihilated a decent field by nine links in there i think he can set a great trip on the outside i don't think he needs to be on the lead i think he's going to get a generous trip from flavian pratt he's well aware of what the pace is going to be but this is who i like in this race maggie yeah i like number eight as a magician too gary i know you're a little bit more familiar with him having been out on the west coast but i was drooling back in the paddock over him he is just gorgeous he's this big strapping scopey horse and watching him train here at belmont two he is impressed in the mornings just a very intense horse who has that high cruising galloping speed that you would need for these mile and a half races and as you saw the gate behind me is one of only a few races actually only one of two that the gate is positioned right here in front of the grandstand obviously the other one will be coming up a little bit later in the belmont stakes but i'm all about his magician here in this spot we do need to discuss moretti who was pretty dominant in this series of these marathon dirt races last year but we have not seen him since the beginning of august in the birdstone in which he won and beating several other runners here in the field i've always liked him and he's always this happy yet confident horse and he came back today exuding that same disposition and if it was for any other trainer besides todd fletcher i'd be concerned that he'd need a start considering the layoff and the distance but it's todd and he is ready he is fit he is strong of the horses in the paddock those were the two that i liked the most amaretti currently greg at five to one thank you maggie he is indeed javier castellano will be aboard moretti as you get a look at the eight who is our favorite tis a magician five to two flavian pratt for richard mandela just won by nine lengths at a mile and a half tokyo city and flavion pratt's skills were on display in today's second race where he gave the winner an exceptional ride he's as good as any rider in the country tis a magician is very dangerous in here and he really likes these long distance dirt races he also likes slightly easier competition he wasn't as good as the likes of idol and express tour in some of those races but against these at these distances he can win the question is how quick is the pace going to be because his musical heart definitely going to lead you imagine he's got to stalk that one lone rock outside of him out of speed as well how quick will the pace be and will they be able to hold off the closers because there are some talented ones in this race and i'm hoping the right one is aja weed yeah here he is he's in five to one the other pletcher runner in here he just missed trying to time that move against musical heart and that flat out into my own three-eighths yeah i i what i liked about it was it was such a huge step forward for him he had run some good races or won when he was a two-year-old when he finished second the remsen but it feels like that's where he found his home and he's been trained by todd fletcher of course kieran mclaughlin used to train him he retired from training he's now luis science's agent oshaweed really came to life you look at his figures he just ran far and away the fastest race and distance is a great equalizer some horses are just okay going a mile or so and these long distance races just they turn into a different horse you see it on grass you see it on dirt and that's why i think ajou is a player in here he's just a different horse going long tom fletcher seems to have a lot of these horses that that like doing that and excel at that distance right i mean will you look right inside of ajawi de moretti moretti was sort of average going shorter and he really blossomed in the long distance races todd pletcher has a knack and it's not surprising when you think of the success he's had in the belmont stakes speaking of moretti we should mention the first three on the card all won by horses that irad ortiz jr had been listed on he was in this race listed on moretti who's at five to one javier castellano will ride probably helps irad that at least his brother won on two of those horses so he's happy i listen and he doesn't begrudge anybody and i i'm sure like everybody he's happy that he wasn't injured more severely but it's got to be tough but having his brother win those two races i'm sure made him feel good now he is certainly missed on this big stage grade two brooklyn presented by northwell health let's send it upstairs john imbriel with the call and are waiting now for number four rocketry and the nine lone rock this mile and a half brooklyn being run for the 132nd time and they're all in the gate and they're off and it was a stumbling beginning for number eight tis a magician who is towards the back of the pack musical heart is going out for the lead along with ryze the guy you're to blame is down at the rail running in third lone rock from the outside and then it is more ready tis a magician who was off to that awkward beginning has now moved up into sixth ijaweed is next in seventh at the back of the pack our campaign and rocketry they move around the clubhouse turn after an opening quarter mile and 23 and four fifth seconds musical heart leads here by a length lone rock is on the outside in second tis a magician has advanced now up on the outside and into third rise the guy is down at the rail in fourth and then it is more ready as the field heads for the belmont backstretch musical heart is the leader here with lone rock on the outside and second tis a magician is in third rise the guy down at the rail in fourth and alongside is moretti that a break of three to your to blame who is running in sixth position followed there by ajo weed and it is a big break back to the two trailers campaign and rocketry the half 47 and four fifth seconds and three quarters and one twelve and three still musical heart the leader with lone rock on the outside in second rise the guy rides the rails in third and alongside is tis a magician in fourth about two and a half from the front then it is moretti in fifth you're to blame at the fence in sixth and oshaweed is in seventh as they go into the far turn it's musical hard and lone rock and they remain one two tis a magician on the outside and third rides the guy at the rail moretti is in fifth three and a half from the front then you're to blame and aja weed farther back rocketry and campaign here's lone rock now to take over the lead from musical heart lone rock is the leader as they come for the quarter pole tis a magician runs in second and moretti is next in third as they head for home now here's tis a magician up to challenge lone rock for the lead moretti's on the outside and third ryze the guy is in fourth and they're at the eighth pole and it is lone rock who is opening up on the field here lone rock is all alone here in deep stretch lone rock really pouring it on to win the brooklyn stakes decisively tis a magician was second and moretti finished third and the time was two minutes 25 and one-fifth seconds uh what's another word for dominant here this horse has won six of his last seven lone rock a six-year-old for robertino deodoro 225 and a fifth i mean that is a crazy crazy time obviously the track's playing quickly but this worse i mean he looked like he got shot out of a can of the eighth pole tough breed for tis a magician who didn't blew the break but he wasn't beating this guy and it's funny i just heard from ramon vazquez his agent said to root for his horse in this race well he didn't need me to root for him this was an impressive performance congratulations the connections what a race lone rock a long way back to tisa magician moretti in thur this race all about this six-year-old by majestic warrior though maggie and i spoke to his owner jay provenzano of flying p stable and obviously he seemed pretty confident in lone rock's chances and i said i said yeah i mean he's a mile and a half specialist he said he'll go further than that as he is looking to target those races up at saratoga like the birdstone at a mile in three quarters and with this performance i mean he could run two miles from what i could tell yes his magician i think it was hampered by the fact he did not get away cleanly something that he doesn't usually do he was tracking off of what was a quick pace while three wide but so was lone rock i mean lone rock was too wide off that quick pace and had so much left in the tank just destroying this field and you could see this horse has the most interesting stride when he's in full tilt because he really extends his legs out he's so fun to watch and this is quite a performance in this brooklyn guys just want to say let's hold off on the final time and i hope that the people who do the timing here correct this either the mile and a quarter time of 204 449 is wrong or the final time is wrong because as impressive as this horse ran there's no chance that he won his final quarter in 20 and four fifths so hopefully somebody will get the accurate time up there especially on a big day like this let's go back to the start and fortiza magician the eights issues out of the gate under flavian pratt yeah i mean you blow the break like that you just have no chance i give flavian pratt a lot of credit for sort of settling him into the race and he ran very well to be second fortunately the winner won so easily that you're never really gonna think you're gonna beat him but obviously he lost his best chance by the start meanwhile where can i get a future book bet down for the birdstone yeah he'll be a big price in there you can get one from me one to five robertino diodoro flying piece stable ramon vasquez winners of the grade 2 brooklyn meanwhile back at churchill it was close all three of these right at the wire but double tough tiger the best wins it five to one mitch mural chris hartman jackie rojas winning connections craig i'm leaving you i i i'm not going to see you again for about five years two things i want a belmont winner and i want your thoughts coming up on the acorn uh i like essential quality in the belmont stakes later today i think he's a very logical horse i don't love falling on the favorite i couldn't make a strong case against him i have an affinity for search results i think day out of the office has a big chance to upset her but i really want search results to win and i think she's the best horse in the race and i believe that she's going to be very tough to beat she she was a really tough out in that kentucky oaks by against malathot yeah took a big effort to beat her all right andy we'll see in a bit richard migliori stepping in for andy right after a short time out is our live the entire way around there he exploded with you yeah i also thank you golden thank you opportunity for the owner and they and my engine you know it's uh i'm i'm really happy you know my my dream coming through so yeah i had a good trip with my horse i take a good position i put the horse in the best spot i can so he had a good three when a husky hang you can see he went easy so it was so impressive congratulations to you but here's the man that uh backs this horse lone rock joe j franzano and jay a horse that you've reclaimed but boy did going back in for 40 really reaped the benefits so we went in for the 40. we went him in a five-way shake that day and we come back and we ran him a mile in the eighth uh he he excelled he came out of the race and tino called me a couple days later and he said i don't want you to think i'm crazy but i have a race picked out for him i said okay he goes but it's in two weeks it's a mile and a half the temperance hill i said you think he can go that far well he did he he he floundered a little at the end and that was his only fault this year and probably because we ran back too quick but he's come back three times now in a mile and a half and uh ramon just it's him and ramon that that's that's who they are you know it's it's his horse you know uh he was very excited this morning you know he got on a horse exercise around the track i wanted him to really understand what a 3 8 pole is here opposed everywhere else uh you know he came back he he came out to the paddock and he just felt so cool and calm and i told him you know you know this is a great opportunity you know and make the most of it and he really did i mean i i can't wait to watch it again it was kind of like a blur because this is my first great at stake well exactly massive congratulations to you on your first greatest date now go get your trophy thank you so much maggie all right dave robinson a big supporter big player in the claiming game it's not often you claim one well twice for 40 and then you win a great at stake greg what a moment and what a day to win your first grade at stake on as well on a triple crown day with eight grade ones absolutely and a really nice crowd here an enthusiastic crowd we can feel that energy and uh j provenzano flying p stable loves this game he's so passionate about it how about ramon vazquez first trip around belmont park a mile and a half and he wrote it like he's been doing it his whole life yeah that's not easy to do time things right although didn't have to do too much timing with that kind of dominant performance grade one acorn is next in this three-year-old philly division we'll get to that race in a moment this is coming up later hillandale met mile quick look at those odds there which we're going to touch on in a moment but back to the acorn search results she could have easily packed it in against malathot when she got passed she fought all the way to the wire this will be her first start back since that day yeah she did not want to lose and she did everything properly that day sometimes she's a little resident to change to her right leech hang on that left lead well she did everything perfect in the oaks and when she was collared she fought back against an undefeated philly uh gets a good advantageous outside post going a mile here at belmont a very deserving favorite by the way some of you might recognize him richard migliore joining us on set so i didn't get to properly introduce you let's talk a little met mile coming up later on this afternoon hillendale metropolitan handicap purse of a million dollars stallion making races it's referred to it always draws an outstanding lineup and nick's go will lead the way this year he's been brilliant since he's moved to the barn of brad cox yeah and this is the definition of it's not how fast you're going it's how you're going fast going fast comes very easily to nick's go and while other horses are having to work to stay within his natural gait he's just cruising along throwing down very fast fractions one turn mile should suit him so well and another one aided by that outside post he gets to gallop into the race there's no pressure leaving the gate you have to worry about getting squeezed back between two horses like jackie's warrior did earlier in the woody stevens looks like he's a very formidable favorite hugh hillendale met mile fax the 2020 winner of a coma by candy ride who started at hillandale 2014 winner palace malice by hillandale stallion kerlin and the 2005 winner dan what can people find on the website you nailed that intro by the way you nail it every time you go to america's best racing we've got a t i mean all year round but specifically today belmont stakes day uh quick sheet on all the contenders in the belmont stakes we've got race previews uh handicapping for the undercard races we want to make some money we've got some great analysts expert picks and then on site here today we've got a whole team capturing social media photos uh capturing great video you'll find on the website and also on our social media channels uh twitter is just you know blowing up today obviously we've got a lot of stuff going on at abr live on twitter and penelope miller on site providing those got to give her a little love but dan you're very astute handicapper as well give us the lowdown on this year's belmont stakes so i'm like i'm trying to keep it simple like i feel like more than any of the other triple crown races this is a race that's you know strictly tied to pedigree and so i want the tap it and i want the two carlin so i'm essential quality uh i'm known agenda and i'm overtook overtook is my long shot people i think are discounting overtook a little bit based on the peter pan i think the horse is going to like the added distance might get a little bit of a pace set up i think maybe hot rod charlie goes with rock your world so that's my little value play in there to throw in i'm with you on that long shot i like it oh i feel better okay it doesn't mean anything but um dan thank you so much for joining us and have fun today thank you it's great to be back here at beautiful belmont park it's lovely to have fans back here and dan too as we want to check back in with jonathan kitchen and paula duka who are right to my left and they're going to give you the lowdown on churchill's next race maggie tell dan to take it easy with that shirt he's trying to steal my thunder over here you'll be sweating more than you're sweating now oh there's no doubt look uh in this race right here i like the six conquest rainy city i talk about it all the time i love when these two-year-olds have performances when they were two that fit now as with these three-year-olds and i thought conquest rainy city that race at keeneland showed speed ran well that day got a nice speed figure that horse is going to improve and i like the tactical speed in this race yeah and you got good connections obviously with joe talmo mike maker the source is going to get lasiks for the first time um in his for three race career the crazy part is is michael maker and joe talmo are over 20 this year together which is a little surprising i'm on the favorite el caban i didn't think he would be the favorite um he's over three he's been very very close it's kind of the horse you sort of want to stay away from but i thought his races have been good enough to win this for ashbrook farm so i know a lot of money is going to win worthy because joe sharp has been hot yeah the one win worthy does make sense has the nice uh has a nice speed figure had a trip last time too lost uh some ground on the turn and we'll be able to work out hopefully we'll be able to work out a better trip down here on the inside but like i said the sixth conquest reigning city for me paulie's gonna go with the 5l kabong and then now we're going to listen to the voice of the kentucky derby travis they're in the gate and they're off by north that outside post bounces out near the top tiger shark is there metolyus is showing speed two and windworthy for that inside post comes up to make it four across the track as they head for the first turn where tiger shark goes on with it now tiger shark takes the lead tries to cut the corner into the clubhouse turn metolyus is running in second pine knoll spun out three wide while third winworthy gets a cozy spot toward the inside fourth the break or two back to el caban who comes away fifth conquest rainy city is six dominar seventh cool rags eighth mr slate settles in at the back back stretch run opening quarter goes in 23 in four fifth seconds and it's tiger shark showing the way leads by a length midway down the back stretch run metolyus has backed off just a bit to track the pace from second win worthy covered up inside running along in third pine knoll is now fourth el caban in the clear moving up into fifth conquest rainey city is buried at the inside sixth and only four lengths off the lead now that it's dominar cool rags and mr slate on the far turn tiger shark still there the leader by three quarters over length pine knolls coming on with a wide sweep windworthy finds a seam toward the hedge and slips up on through metolyus is also there as they come off the turn and el caban swings four five wide off the turn they're at the top of the stretch win worthy tried to cut the corner holding on to the lead pineal there el cabon bearing down here comes el caban and cool rag switched outside too it's pineal inside el kabong outside they brush right there outside the 16th pine knoll short lead al kabang these two stretching it with every stride here's the wire el capon maybe got a good bob but it's very tight pineal right there cool rags was third and win worthy was fourth looked like el cabang just in that final stride getting up for the win at five to two al caban trained by rusty arnold george arnold ridden by jimmy graham and you could see jimmy graham's having his hands full el caban is wanting to lug in get over on top of the runner-up i believe is a runner pineal on the inside and he really couldn't let him fully run he had kept having correct his path until the last few strides kind of gave him his head and got that little bit of an advantage it appeared but uh certainly a nice effort from uh the five el caban as well as pine knoll down on the inside uncle bong broke outward just a touch one more look el kabong outside the tent pine knoll down on the fence the new gelding for brad cox and these two in lockstep to the wire and just that final moment in front to the outside and you see the way jimmy graham had his right hand off the horse's neck holding him off of that horse he wanted to lug in on top of him and bump him you don't want to do that in a close finish because that's when you get disqualified we'll have the prices from that coming up it's five to two on your winner up next grade one acorn in this three-year-old philly division and there is search results the runner-up in the kentucky oaks who gave malathot a big test her first race top of the stretch first dude game on dude they're head-to-head for the lead drosselmeyer trying to wear them down from the far outside uptown charlie brown and fly down down to the finish first down is deputy on the outside here here at the wired trussell meyer who gets first dude in the shadow of the wire joseph meyer joseph iron upset winner that was the first win in the triple crown series for hall of fame trainer bill mott in the first in the belmont for mike smith at 13-1 yeah bill mott the youngest trainer ever inducted into racing's hall of fame at the age of 45. drosselmeyer he liked the mile and half didn't he you sure did there is hall of fame trainer bill model send out obligatory coming off a big win at churchill and the eight bells let's head downstairs to maggie wolfendell and the field assembled and the jocks are up here for the grade one acorn we'll begin with the favorite and that is search results coming in off of a narrow defeat in the grade one kentucky oaks in which i think turning back to a one-term mile is absolutely ideal for her i questioned her ability to get him out on eighth and she certainly does get it but i think she could be that much more effective at this distance and she looks better like amazingly better not that she needed to improve much but i'm so taken with her today compared to what i saw from her going back to the grade 3 gazelle at aqueduct i'm all about search results today but i will say some positive things about number four day out of the office who i didn't necessarily like heading into this effort but she has done really well from two to three the first time i'm laying eyes on her here since the last time i saw her in the grade one for zette she was a big two-year-old but she's gotten longer she's gotten more athletic and mentally she has calmed down so much and i think that's a feather in her cap as she does try to get the mile here once again physically craig she looks as though she could be effective maggie thank you it is going to be a lot of fun to see this group go at each other odds on on church results winner of that grade three gazelle when she was not switching her leads but she put up a huge fight in the kentucky oaks she really did and i thought it was very encouraging that she switched leads right on time in the kentucky oaks and battled as gamely as she did [Music] here they come through the tunnel our second of eight great ones on this tremendous card you can play all the action by getting signed up with nara bets belmont 25 that code to use for a 25 free play in the belmont and a 100 deposit match of up to 200 go to nairobits.com or download that naira bets app to get involved we will begin with a philly who was in that kentucky oaks as well for brad cox travel column she wound up fifth in the race she entered that race off a win in the fairgrounds oaks yeah set the pace in the kentucky oaks was three and a half to one that day actually a shorter price in search results turns back but gets a difficult post on the turnback juddmont homebred a daughter of curling obligatory she just ran a huge figure in the grade two eight bells got a lot of pace to run out that day to run down day out of the office who was returning off of a layoff very good form right now obligatory day out of the office she won the great one for zett here is a two-year-old she was the runner-up of the breeders cap juvenile phillies tended a scorching pace in the eight bells opened up turning for home and maybe those fast fractions and a little bit of the layoff got to her she was run down by obligatory make mischief she's the biggest price of this race he was third in that eight bells behind obligatory and day out of the office another one who rallied from off the pace got a good trip that day saving ground and the one to beat he's the four to five favorite daughter of flatter chad brown clara vic stables javier castellano filling in for irat ortiz jr ran too good to lose and the kentucky oaks did everything but win is very good a neck away from being undefeated she's the odds on favorite as she cuts back to this mile distance let's head downstairs to paul laduka and jonathan kinchin paulie this is one of my favorite races all year long same idea with the woody stevens you have these horses that are on the oaks trail trying to get the mile and eighth the derby the mile and a quarter you eventually kind of realize maybe they want to go shorter you cut them back to this one turn mile i love this race yeah it's it looks like it's going to be a battle between two phillies in here between the four and the six and when you look at search results right now at four to five it's a little enticing i thought she might be a little bit less than that although the fourth day at the office is very formidable in this spot but the six search results were on the cutback running second to malathod malathod was a horse that todd fletcher was considering sticking in the belmont stakes that's how talented she is so this uh philly by flat are definitely the one to beat yeah i like search results she ran big uh too good to you to lose last time the kentucky oaks you heard maggie mention it maybe the cutback is gonna help maybe that was the impression a lot of people had going into the yolks and now it's actually gonna happen she's gonna be tough to beat but she's not a single here in my opinion i think day out of the office the four is extremely live this horse got hooked at a very very fast pace at churchill downs and that eight bells and i think because of that you can expect her to run a little bit better here not to mention she doesn't have to deal with the three miss brazil who uh who who was was going to run in this race but has scratched um five minutes to post the countdown to the acorn presented by long jeans the official time keeper of belmont park um it's the four and the six for me polly i i just don't see one of these other horses jumping up i guess travel column could i wasn't crazy about those races down in in the fairgrounds those three old races with her and claire kind of trading punches obligatory got a huge setup last time do you care for any of the two inside runners the only one i would care for is the one travel column because she's finally going back to sprinting around one turn where she did break her maiden now she went right into the elsi bodies after that obligatory is another horse that won the eight bells around um one turn but day at the office if you look the only really bad race and it wasn't a bad race got beat by vikus in the breeders cup juvenile and that was going around two turns all the rest of the races around one turn have been darn good paulie let's check with someone who's ridden more races here at belmont about belmont park than you and i combined gary stevens what's going on oh man i haven't ridden as many as richie migliore i can tell you that but i this is going to be a chess match this is what's fun about belmont park short field grade one you've got uh two guys that are in the hall of fame and javier castellano johnny velasquez and then you've got a group of three guys that will possibly be in the hall of fame the young game young guns of the game but when the money shows up and they put the g1 next to these races the guys with the seasoning they tend to out think a little more see things before they happen believe me in horse racing if you think you haven't seen it it will happen but these guys have seen pretty much everything and it's going to be an interesting race watch i just want to see a good horse race with a close finish richie yeah it should be a really interesting race i think dana the office potentially could have a little bit of an advantage from just her natural speed i don't think she's going to face the kind of speed she faced in the eight bells i mean travel conflict could be quick but she's coming out of two turn races the main speed of this race was taken out miss brazil her scratch yeah really made this interesting you look back to travel column when she broke her maiden she would zip along pretty good in that sprint drawn inside and there she is i know going a little bit longer candle that speed but they've got to try and go don't they well from the rail i think it kind of simplifies things come out you know running and then if someone wants to go they've got to use a little bit more create some separation give yourself some options florent drew how many times have we seen him be aggressive on america's day at the races well we know john velasquez knows how to take advantage of speed as well we saw that with medina spirit in the kentucky derby as we take a look at obligatory day out of the office make mischief they were one two three in the eight bells dana the office was a part of that pace sees the lead at the top of the stretch look like she's on her way to victory and here comes obligatory with the last run on the far outside to just mow her down but you know she was coming off a layoff day out of the office she was a part of a very hot pace that everybody else that was involved with it you know i mean make mischief friend very well to hang on for third but everybody else in close proximity really melted down woody stevens we've only seen a couple of dirt races today but the woody stevens you had to be up front early and then we didn't see any horses really make up ground in there so travel column day out of the office how close will they be early in this race can anyone make up ground let's go downstairs to maggie yeah that's a good question to pose here greg as checking in with travel column i kind of agree with what paul had said her getting back to a shorter distance especially around one turn suits her well and you always think about horses that are a little bit smaller a little bit slighter they'll prefer obviously less ground to cover and despite the pedigree that suggests more i think this is the right move for her she did get a little bit hot i'm not as familiar with her i remember her from the fairgrounds in the rachel alexandra she was a little tuned up or keyed up that day but it also bodes well for her turning back a bit i don't like her as relative to the top two in here but she is one that has to be considered given the race conditions as the horse that just continues to win me over in enormous amounts is number six search results greg she looked absolutely phenomenal out on the racetrack too public agree she's three to five heard from chad brown earlier when he was talking to maggie said he would have liked to have a little more time with her get another work into her but here they are and obviously on her talent alone she could be good enough to win this race well absolutely i mean this is the fourth start of her life and she's fighting with malathot down to the wire and when she got collared right there you would have forgiven her if she got beat a length and a half two lengths well you know malaphat got the measure of her well she wasn't going away without a fight she would give him malathod all she could handle all the way through the wire what do you think about her cutting back to this mild distance do you think potentially she could be better at a mile i do i do think potentially she could be better at a mile and i think she's the best she got the best of it in the post position draw one turn mile at belmont you got a full half a mile till you get to the turn you're outside you're allowed to gallop into the race get into a good rhythm your horse breathes the right way everything is much more you know it's just a smoother way to get into a race uh i i think it really helps her cause not that she needed much help on paper and obviously it's tough for all these connections to have irad ortiz jr out today but they get a rider who actually won on her in the busher in javier castellano yeah javier castellano has some knowledge of her and he is a hall of fame already just as gary stevens mentioned four to five of the kentucky oaks runner-up search results as we get set for the grade one a chord let's go to john embryo and the final horse search results moving into line for this acorn steaks day out of the office is going out for the early lead and then it is mischief on the outside is search results who is a close up third travel column is running in fourth and obligatory is the trailer in fifth day out of the office is the leader here by a half length make mischief long shot running in second the gray philly travel column is down at the rail and third by a head the favorite is alongside search results and obligatory trails opening quarter mile 23 and two fifth seconds as the three-year-old phillies continue along day out of the office shows the way here by a full length now make mischief is in second travel column down at the rail search results on the outside about two and a half off the lead obligatory continues to trail and the opening half won in 47-1 day out of the office continues to lead the lead is three-quarters of a length make mischief has been in second the entire way on the outside is search results who is now moving up just a bit from third down at the railers travel column obligatory trails it's day out of the office and here is search results now moving up on the outside as they come into the stretch it's day out of the office challenged here on the outside by search results search results and day out of the office search results with a head in front day out of the office is running in second then make mischief and travel column out in the middle of the track obligatory is putting in a late run search results trying to hold off obligatory and search results wins her belmont debut and she does it in the grade one acorn stakes the mile and 135 and two wow obligatory was coming search results gets the win though chad brown clarovich javier castellano it said an absolutely perfect trip that outside post a lot of the luxury of just kind of galloping into the race made her move at the top of the stretch i thought that the four horse stay out of the office had a distinct advantage because of the slow pace she really had no answer for search results and give obligatory high marks for closing as stoutly as she did off of very moderate fractions a half a mile and 47.1 around one turn she's completely out of it now at this point and still able to close into this very slow pace on a track that you know is going to be fast on a day like this search results though in the end picks up a grade one win maggie that she does uh she one day will learn to switch her leads greg um because i don't want to say it almost got her beat today but i kind of do um with obligatory who is like a bicycle as mig likes to point out i mean jose ortiz was riding her at the 3 8 pole and she finally kicked it into gear late on almost getting to search results but she did prove best today she's a very very talented philly and a daughter of flatter greg yeah how about that daughter of clayburn stallion flatter with this victory now a grade one win on the resume she is very talented and still yes trying to figure things out as you know we were watching this stretch run scene that she didn't switch leads and here comes obligatory flying if she was able to do that and turn turning unable switch leads what how different would this have been well i think she does find more you know we talk about what what does it mean for us to switch leads you're running through the airport carrying your suitcase in one hand you start to get tired just automatically you put in your other hand you get a little bit of energy a burst of energy and you could see though like you know it's interesting because she switched seats perfectly in the kentucky oaks so you know she's capable of it and you're gonna watch javier castellano right in here watch his inside rain you see how he cocked her head he was trying to shift her weight together to get over the right lead and all she did was kind of go in instead of jumping to her right lee that's one of the singles one of the cues riders give so the fact that she could do it it's just baffling why she wouldn't do it on certain days and how obvious is that when you're on a horse's back that they're not making that switch oh you you feel it immediately just the position of their body their their inside leg and their inside shoulder is pointing more towards the finish than their outside leg and their outside shoulder um and like i said javier tried to get her to switch she just was having none of it and at what point as you're trying to do this because you know as you're doing that too you're giving up ground to whoever's coming do you give up and just say let's just go with what we got well javier tried it one time really good and he said nah i got to keep going forward don't keep trying to make your switch and potentially break my momentum because if he had continued to fight with her i think it would have been even a lot closer than it was in the end she's able to hang on despite switching leads and now she's got a grade one win on the resume chad brown klarovic javier castellano one of the top trainers in this game chad brown already off to a huge afternoon and he's got some big ones still to come including that rematch with domestic spending and colonel liam in the grade one manhattan looming we'll be back with more on america's day at the races after this my dad loves the lottery growing up he was always playing so i had the idea to create an app that lets you play the lottery on your phone i think that was my idea it's called jackpocket it's like having a jackpot in your pocket i came up with that too jackpocket allows you to play official lottery games on your phone just choose your game and pick your numbers i wasn't sold until i saw the actual ticket on my phone was that your idea too dad don't be a wise guy go to jackpocket.com to get your first ticket free the run happies keep winning what are they at belmont park when a pair of run happies crushed the competition tdn rising star following c delivered yet another emphatic performance sailing down the stretch to win by six and a half lengths then two-year-old philly happy soul sword to victory winning the astoria stakes by a whopping eleven and a half links price for success is just ten thousand dollars call bernie sams and book your mayor to run happy standing in style one at cleveland farm welcome back to america's day at the races it is belmont stakes day and we've had yet another grade one but first we're brought to you in part by nairobits but any track any time anywhere with your naira bets account that grade one i was mentioning is the historic grade one a chord and it went to search results today i'm pleased to be joined by her owner seth clarkman and seth take us from the emotional rollercoaster that i'm sure was the kentucky oaks to this victory today well thank you maggie um and first of all we should acknowledge that irad got hurt he was supposed to ride and javi did a great job and we hope her adds back real soon um she's a great feeling she was undefeated going into the oaks she lost by you know a neck she came back on the inside so it was a great effort it wasn't really that hard we were pleased with her effort and then today we thought we had a solid chance and she showed us she's really good do you take her on to saratoga and explore the coaching club american oaks in alabama or do you think she is a philly that you want to keep at shorter distances i think that's chad's call well the one thing chad said earlier in your second win on the card too is your patience and that's what makes you such a successful owner and how do you remain that patient with your horses you know i'm an investor in my in my day job i think investing is long term i think courses are long term we try to take good care of them and hope they're around for a long time and if you run them too much or you run them too early you reduce the chance of that and you continue to reap the benefits of that patience congratulations with this great one okay all right seth glarmin with search results well he was smiling ear to ear as he let her down the champions way of the winner's circle here with this grade one win in the acorn being a little modest there legendary investor of course seth clarkman and he has had so much success with chad brown and it sounds like he really lets leaves it up to chad to call the shots i think owners get the best out of their trainers and riders when they allow them to do their jobs and trust in them and have that kind of relationship where there's good communication and trust between both parties four of the five races on the card at belmont park won by horses that irat ortiz jr had been named on i'm sure it's got to be a really tough tough afternoon to miss out on what he's seen transpire we wish him all the best we're back at churchill post parade for the fourth 40 claimer six for a long sprint colonel clink ran some big ones at hawthorne sprinting for your hogan's heroes fan the horse that would prefer getting back to the dirt three to one on nifty chris hartman uh nifty definitely getting some class relief should be competitive here big scratch taking some of the speed out of the race with the three here's donald's creek yeah a horse that has some good races on the dirt kind of a dual surface kind of horse buttered noodles with that scratch of the three could be alone in front definitely the one benefited most by that scratch but the one to beat no question rocking the boat huge performance last time out but gelded off of a win after he's claimed by dale romans yeah kind of an unusual thing to see that kind of a change off of a win but dale roman's certainly one of the all-time leading trainers at churchill knows what he's doing he looks great warming up as well let's go downstairs to jonathan paul yeah guys the twin spires market mover is going to be the five buttered noodles and it's not just because i am getting a little bit hungry and that sounds delicious i think it has a lot to do with the fact the source is dropping in for a tag been facing starter allowance company as of late and i'm not a big believer in the six rocking the boat at such a short price if you want to bet the twin spires market mover or any other horse in this race go to twinspires.com paulie are you hungry for some buttered noodles i'm always hungry for some butter noodles i grew up on it when i was a kid you got to understand the italiano over here [Music] i think a lot of people also are looking at butter noodles and thinking okay there's not really much front end pace or need the lead types sort of like him now rocking the boat first time gelding can he stay close to the buttered noodles yes the three to wrapper is that cheap speed the two nifty is the type of horse that comes from way out of it so i think the public at two to one is thinking okay there is going to be some pace in this race i just don't know taking four to five on a horse that has won a race um off the claim and del roman's had this horse why didn't he geld them before he gelds them now so i don't know if i want to take a horse at four to five yeah it comes in off a little bit of a short break and i just look i have no problem and i know people at home are probably giggling i have no problem betting four to five shots but i need you to feel like a four to five shot i need to believe all the box have all the boxes have to be checked and for rocking the boat those boxes just aren't checked and i just feel like there's probably some better value in this race and i think the five butter noodles for the reasons you mentioned getting loose on the front end is a very big possibility in here i like the outside draw and i like the price and i also like travis stone the voice of churchill downs they're in the gate and they're off rocking the boat from the far outside post bounces out on top butternoodles is right there too and these two are head-to-head in the early stages rocking the boat on the outside butter noodles at the rail butternoodles comes on through to grab a narrow lead rocking the boat is right there racing up into second nifty down inside not far behind while third donell's creek is an up close fourth only two and a half flanks off the lead colonel clink is at the back and five links behind with four for longs to go buttered noodles bounding along up top heads for the far turn run rocking the boat is right there through an opening quarter mile and 22 in two fifth seconds three for longs to go don ellis creek ranging up with a three wide bid now only lengthened to half behind nifty's back into fourth colonel clink is at the back in fifth coming for the top of the stretch buttered noodles rocking the boat in a three-wide don ells creek nifty finds a seam down inside and cut the corner here comes nifty through toward the rail to challenge for the top spot and to the front it's nifty in front with one for long to go donald's creek fights on rocking the boat is there butter noodles in between final 16th anyone of four can win it it's nifty rocking the boat donald's creek nifty up the rail to win it nifty the winner in the end tight for second donald's creaker rocking the boat butter doodles was fourth nifty up the fence for the win in those white blinkers for chris hartman nifty had a nifty little ride from mitchell marrow who squeaked through along the inside and you could see he was determined that he was going to get through he was never even thought about leaving the fence he was watching the horse in front the five horse buttered noodles he slipped through inside of buttered noodles get that very good and got it done last uh big effort from the outside horse who was in between horses battling throughout in rocking the boat got to use that spoon with the fork make sure they don't get away nifty at nine to five goes off the slight second choice for the win at churchill not the most popular of victories in the belmont stakes they ended triple crown bids birdstone touch gold we'll check in on move now he's fourth he's uh he's on the outside now he's uh he's president now there's the one the seventh and the sixth he's on the lead there's another horse on the inside of them he's gonna win [Music] [Music] at old friends a home for retired thoroughbreds there's a band of horses who won the belmont stakes but for a single day these three played the role of the villain denying horse racing a triple crown birdie this is birdstone birdstone is a marvelous racehorse i think nick zito told me when he won the belmont he weighed 950 pounds so obviously tiny still tiny i always wanted him because i was at the belmont with everybody else the day that he the day that he won and everybody in the place was disappointed when he beat smarty jones out of the triple crown and even tom dirk and the race announcer and birdstone has won the belmont stakes birdstone wins the film stakes you look like you could win the belmont again [Applause] the biggest long shot in the history of the billboard i was there that day too everybody assembled there was over a hundred thousand people at belmont that day everybody was there to watch the coronation of warhammer another great horse that we had here and uh here comes sarava out of nowhere but look at me so happy he never won another race after that belmont touch gold i got carrots i do show them you can still run a little bit like when you won the belmont will deny him [Music] and he's he's got exactly the opposite temperament is silver trump silver charm is kind he's nice he's gracious this guy's just rugged and tough yeah he's a real macho guy but he still runs good he's 27 years old one of the great things about horses is they don't hold grudges they really get along in their their vintage years he loves this not the most popular of victories for summer connections to birdsona actually apologized after they won with birdstone old friends and that's where they're hanging out now on lexington well mary lou whitney the owner of birdstone you know she loves racing so much she knew how important it was for racing to have a triple crown winner again and she actually was upset that her horse won the belmont birdstone pretty neat little horse when the champagne the belmont and the travers it's a pretty good triumvirate right there well as always so much anticipation and we had such a long drought someone who's been on both sides of this happening is hall of famer gary stevens gary your thoughts on playing spoiler and being on the other end of it as well well i'll tell you what the the feeling i had on silver charm that day um going down the backside there was no question in my mind that i was sitting on a triple crown winner and i actually made the lead earlier than i had wanted to make the lead and his old buddy chris mccarron who had ridden silver charm prior to me knew that silver charm loved a battle and i won't say he pulled up but he definitely was not giving me a hundred percent as touch gold was rallying down the middle of the racetrack and i could see his shadow coming and i couldn't figure out who it was and we crossed the finish line the feeling i had at the 16th pole was like that the most wonderful feeling i've ever experienced in my life thinking man we're going to pull this off and all of a sudden in a split second i i knew there was a possibility i was going to get out run and that's something they say good quarterbacks have a short memory if they throw an interception or whatever and jockeys i always had a pretty short memory when i was dq'd or something like that you got to move on to the next one but that one never got over has to sting having that much on the line knowing it was such a historic moment as well to end a triple crown drought but he's made up for with some amazing amazing moments in his career well and the other thing too is that he delivered a flawless ride that day it wasn't as though you could go back and second guess any move that gary made that day chris mccarron was brilliant on touch goal that day by staying away from silver charm who would always seem to find more in that battle but uh i think gary played the spoiler a few years later with an absolutely brilliant ride on victory gala jack pocket jupiter is up next it kicks off the pick six on belmont stakes day let's go to maggie wolfedale standing by with a special guest with this pick six up next great one jyper in a race that i believe many feel this one right here and that background bound for nowhere is a single in the sequence for wesley ward came off a long layoff to win the shaker town at five and a half furlongs can he get the six he's yet to win at that distance yet we'll be back [Music] now more than ever it's time to get with the program because new york reds start with an advantage new york reds run for a serious green at belmond in saratoga new york red maidens run for up to seventy five thousand dollars and allowance forces for up to eighty five thousand and serious new york red owners can collect awards of up to twenty thousand dollars per horse per race in open company so get back with a program [Music] seriously you're watching america's day at the races on belmont stakes day here on fox sports 2 and regional networks out in southern california good to have you with us programs brought to you by america's best racing for the love of the race visit americasbestracing.net today the pick six is coming up grade one jaipur six for long's over the inner turf and down for nowhere maybe a little bit too much being put to the fact he has not one at six furlongs he has one at seven furlongs on the turf yeah i don't think the six furlongs is an issue whatsoever um he won the shaker town from well off the pace which is not usual his usual running style usually he has speed he didn't break uh particularly sharply he actually broke a bit awkwardly um and then here he comes with that patented joel rosario you know well timed late move in turf sprints and he gets up uh to win the shaker town again i think against the grain of how he really normally runs but he does every once in a while have a little trouble out of the starting gate he's not always clean away from the gate for a turf sprint this diaper does not appear to have a lot of speed signed on now he got off to a bad start in his return and that shaker down still was able to get up and win at five and a half furlongs will have an extra half for long to try and wear down whoever is in front if he does happen to break that late pick six on belmont stakes day it starts here it's a fantastic betting sequence and you could play with ten dollars of insurance spend at least a twenty dollar total ticket on the pick six in belmont park using that narrow bets app if your ticket loses you get back a ten dollar bonus now our bets out available in the app store or naira for android on nairabets.com so even money on wesley ward's bound for nowhere is he bound to be a single on your ticket guys well you know i was thinking about it a little bit earlier about him being a single on the ticket then i was thinking of what mig just said and the reason why about nowhere i decided not to single is he does have trouble out of the gate and the reason why is he is a big human being or a big uh animal and he sometimes gets stuck in the gate and he usually has tactical speed that's why you can see he's sort of grinded out that way and i think he'll be up closer today the usuals i'm not going to single letrusco i'm going to take my shot we'll get all the way to race number 10. i like goofo i'm going to take my shot against colonel liam and the forward domestic spending and then obviously in the belmont stakes essential quality i think you have to use i love known agenda then after i'm watching the replay the preakness last night again and again and again um jk rombauer's ears went straight up after the wire i have a feeling he might run a big race as well i'm really excited about this pick six since they we switched it back to the dollar minimum i'm really excited about these big days i'm looking forward to saratoga with this wager and uh you know the pool's already at eight hundred fifty thousand dollars got nine minutes left i think we'll double that at this point yeah um i'm gonna spread in the first leg i'm gonna use fast boat bound for nowhere gregorian chant stubborn's got stormy and sombe yeah and then in the fifth i was gonna single she dares the devil but i decided to use the seven bonnie south as well just in case she dares a devil gets hooked up with latrusca i'm gonna single pocket square a little bit of aggressive move a little bit of chatter about pocket square i'm going to single that horse single knicks go in the met mile i think he's going to be tough to beat in the manhattan if you're on a budget i think you can take a chance uh with singling domestic spending but i am going to use three others masterpiece to five uh paulie's number nine gufo and the ten colonel liam and then i'm gonna wrap it up with essential quality and rombauer you feeling confident always confident probably always confident until until i lose should be our motto shouldn't it i need some of that mojo i'm the exact opposite but it is good to go in with confidence no question and wesley ward's gonna feel pretty confident here about bound for nowhere what's on the line here well automatic entry into the breeders cup turf sprint on november the 6th that 30 000 entry fee paid by the breeders cup 10 000 nominator award and travel allowance if stabled outside of california win and you're in for the breeders cup turf spring here comes our post parade for the jack pocket jeiper here on belmont stakes day we're going to see chewing gum to lead things off in just a moment as they make their way through the tunnel in here trained by the hall of fame barnabile mott jose ortiz will ride a talented runner who just seems to be up against it from a pace standpoint i just don't think he's going to get the kind of pace he needs to do his best running he's a closing sprinter but he has the rail dress he'll get to save ground so chewing gum will have to stick to the rail casa creed 13-1 mott again junior alvarado i did catch that reference by the way big run going 7 8 of a mile but another one that looks like he could be a little pace inhibited john velasquez is going to fill in for irad ortiz jr on fast boat major player in this race another major player maybe stretching out to the 6-2 he can put himself closer there has been times he's in more of a stalking position going five and a half that's a big price on a talented runner 48-1 on gray's creek he used to be with chad brown now he's with paulo lobo yeah making his first start for paula lobo who turns him back in distance maybe he has the feeling this horse is going to be better sprinting even money on down for nowhere came off a long layoff to win that great two shaker town for wesley ward bound for nowhere breaks cleanly he really looks like the lone and controlling speed gregorian chance luis sias phil d'amato he's trying to win four in a row i like the source he's three for three at the distance he's not slow he can put himself in a good contending position gets an aggressive rider and louis cyrus stubbons for doug o'neill he's intriguing as well javier castellano aboard yeah horse another horse that at times has shown a bit more speed last time on soft ground at kentucky downs that was way back in last september didn't have any foot but that's a strange place god storm she kind of reinvented herself late last year as a turf sprinter and now she gets back to sprinting after two routes this year and a philly that's not slow can be very tactical time winner of 2.1 million dollars and then on the outside sombaye peter miller flavium pratt just missed a fast boat before that just missed a gregorian chant a hard trying horse who can also put himself in the game maybe he winds up being part of that pace well someone who knows wesley ward extremely well over the course of his career gary stevens what can you tell us about bound for nowhere gary well his management that he's done of this horse is unbelievable this horse is more like family to him than than uh actual breathing horse he talks to him spends a lot of time with this horse and he doesn't run him if he's not right he's working through problems just stopped on him completely stopped and paulie mentioned a good thing about his size he does struggle to fit into the starting gate he's humongous i had the pleasure to sit on his back and working at keelan here three three four years ago and he is a big strong horse but sometimes you know he doesn't get away from there as clean because he's bottled up in there he's bunched up and can't really reach and stretch the first jump but he's overcome in the past when he's broke a bit slowly or a bit awkwardly i should say and i think if he gets away halfway clean today he taught so many different styles he can go to the lead we saw in his last race he came from well off the pace he doesn't need to bring the race to him he takes his race to his competitors and i think that wesley's already got his schedule mapped out for him this year as long as he stays happy and sound guys even money on bound for nowhere son of the factor seven-year-old for wesley ward has already won seven times in his career and he's just 143 dollars short of becoming a millionaire yeah i mean with a good performance today he should put himself over the million and wesley the owner trainer of bound for nowhere meanwhile fast boat he's coming off a grade two win at churchill at five and a half furlongs in the turf sprint he's won back-to-back starts a nine-time winner over half a million dollars on the lawn yeah and this horse is uh you know going five and a half a bit more of a closer but there's times he's laid up close and i know people go well it's only 110 yards difference races are run completely different five five and a half to six furlongs it just seems like the mindset is more all out the whole way not saving anything right now fast boat 7-1 on the board with more let's go downstairs to maggie as interesting mig pointed out that kind of tactics uh with the six furlongs because catching up with number four fastboat's trainer joe sharp he was concerned that going back to this horse's form in which he had in new york previously trained by christophe clement joe actually claimed this horse his races weren't good but i said joe those were going long and this horseman's no part of going long because he also cited that he's a horse that has preferences of different turf courses did not like fairgrounds much at all but clearly like sam houston and churchill downs he is a true sprinter i mean joe's really found his niche and i don't think he'll have a problem though with the six furlongs it's just i did prefer some others physically in here but joe also said you know there isn't a lot of speed but some on paper but sometimes that turns out to be everybody trying to take advantage of that he does want this horse to settle and sit behind the early leaders moving on to number one chewing gum i know he's a big price in here i'm always a fan of this horse and maybe it is a little bit of the owners wanting to be in a big race on a big day but i also thought it showed a little bit of confidence from connections in that i liked his performance coming back off the layoff back here in may it was going the seven furlongs he cuts back a bit having a little bit of bottom and stamina gained out of that effort last time out and good energy and if anything he looks that much fitter second off the bench loved his warm up too moving very nicely with jose ortiz moving on to number 11 the mayor in this group that has got stormy i know her recent races this year maybe haven't been quite as good or at least especially her last one but she looks better than i have ever seen her always affiliate that was a little bit lighter and slighter in her frame now as a six-year-old mare she's filled out she's not the biggest type but that's okay for turf sprinters and i've always thought she is more effective sprinting i like this spot for here i think she could be dangerous at six to one but ultimately i'm gonna chalk it out with number six bound for nowhere source looks phenomenal i can't get over how well he looks and two reading some of the the quotes from trainer wesley ward and i found this to be true too like in my time with thoroughbreds that when they're younger you have some issues you have to overcome with them little niggling issues whatever it is and if you persevere and you have patience with the horse and give them time to get over it the older they get they get the sounder they will become and i think that's really interesting that wesley said that about uh bound for nowhere but greg we do see ricardo santana off of his mount number five grace creek at the gate yeah gray's creek being tended to as ricardo patiently watches on here a horse who is 46-1 on the board he was a little bit interesting just by the mere fact that he's cutting back in distance on the turf for the first time in his career yeah something completely different for a new condition apollo lobo who's a terrific horse trainer fart amigo on the kentucky oaks rhythm and he's always done a great job uh it just looked like they were adjusting the saddle ricardo not exactly happy with the placement of the saddle you'd want to do that before the start because you can't change it once the gates open well that x factor maybe just left our screen that is the mayor got stormy getting back to sprinting on the grass let's go downstairs to paul jk yeah paul i know you're a got stormy fan uh i've always been hot and cold on her she's she's done some brilliant things obviously winning the four-star dave was the highlight and then her performances in the breeders cup do you like to hear sprinting going sticks for long today well i just like her because i think now she's turned into a type of mayor listen she went on that amazing streak where she just was just unbeatable for about a good six months and then she got one that went a little sour and you got to give credit to the connections with mark cassie when they cut her back at kentucky downs to a sprint and she won the ladies front she won the buffalo trace and then the next time in the breeders cup turf sprint i feel like she just you know those deeper feels 12 to 14 horse fields it's tough for a horse to come from way out of it i just think the six furlong configuration i think hits her right between the eyes in here sort of like the kentucky downs race yeah you talk about cutbacks uh i i kind of fell in love with the 12 sombaiyah with his mile races that showing speed in those mile races and not quite being able to get the job done in all of them then cutting back to the sprint he ran extremely well in the san simeon out in san anita where he was beaten by a horse that's in this race the eighth gregorian chant he ran extremely well that day he came back and ran well at churchill downs going five and a half which i think maybe is just a taste too short for him now he gets the six i i also like outside draws and turf sprints yes you're going to lose ground but i think it's more important to not get stopped in these turf sprints they're running fast it's like a sprint rate you know it's a sprint race so you don't want to get stopped and have to start again like richie said uh he says it often i don't know if it was today or yesterday that these horses aren't like they don't have a brake pedal and gas in a gas pedal you can't just start stop start stop especially in these five for long or six for long-term sprints yeah you're right and and to me the the long shot horse i'll give a look to the two casa creed this the horse has never been in this distance two races here at belmont a win in the third is in pretty darn good form if you look at the races that the horse has actually not been good in um the kilroy mile um the grade one don't literally love the way that he looks on the racetrack looks like he's a little washed out but at 13-1 he might be rolling late yeah casa creed i i know is his seven furlong kind of resurgence he ran well last time the speed figure was a little bit slow but wolfie i i have a feeling you're rooting for the two a little bit for our buddy leigh einstein oh one of my all-time favorites lovely i hope to see him at saratoga this summer um you can't help but root for him casa creed's been a fun horse too oh absolutely got a great trip last time going seven furlongs just don't see a tremendous amount of pace to help the his running style we know if that horse does win they're going to be drinking cos amigos in the winner's circle 13-1 on that runner junior alvarado for bill mott mott's got chewing gum as well at that monster price at 25-1 but the even money favorite as talked about by gary stevens keep your eyes on the break for bound for nowhere as he gets into that gate because he is such a big horse as gary was telling us he's too big for the gate and that can hamper him getting out yeah just not as easy for a big horse to get his feet under him the first step grade one jupiter on belmont state state kicks off to pick six let's go to john imbreal for the call the mayor got stormy just moved into line and waiting on the 12 some by a to complete the field for this jack pocket jaipur they're all in and they're off and they all came away to a good beginning in this jack pocket diaper stakes and it is bound for nowhere who is right out for the early lead and gregorian chant is running in second samba is on the outside and third got stormy is next in fourth graze creek down at the hedge running in fifth and then it is stubborn's in sixth followed by fast boat in seventh and casa creed and chewing gum is the trailer in ninth it is the favorite bound for nowhere who ran the opening quarter mile in 22 seconds leads by a half length gregorian chant in between horses and on the outside is some by a the front three have opened up five lengths on got stormy in fourth then it stubborns in fifth followed by graze creek and then fast boat they are at the top of the stretch gregorian chant right alongside of bound for nowhere bound for nowhere around the half and 44 and three bound for nowhere is clear here by a length gregorian chant runs in second as they come down for the 16th pole bound for nowhere gregorian chant casa creed is kicking in out in the middle of the course casa creed comes from way out of it to upset the field in the jack pocket jaipur the time was one minute eight seconds time for the keyless shots casa creed bill mott leon seidler junior alvarado closing a ton of ground late to take the grade one diaper he stormed down the middle of the track and he needed all every bit of seven frogs get up last time by the 16th ball we both looked at each other we knew he was gonna roll on by now a grade one winner casa creed man what a nice run from him he didn't break particularly sharp two got squeezed back a little bit more and how about the bill mod exacto there with chewing gum rallying on for second so two horses coming from well off the pace both at big prices well these silks they're easy to see in the hot pink get a lot of work to do at this point maggie but boy did he close a lot of ground in the stretch he did and this horse has found a new career and that is sprinting on the turf they tried to explore uh you know the all those big races as a three and four-year-old but he is now undefeated going less than a mile i think it's uh quite a performance by him today powering away from this field you thought you know at the eighth pole that bound for noah is going to see it out but no here he came rolling on and that's why he's a hall of famer that bill mott he runs one two in this grade one jack pocket jumper guys wow big surprise to start off this pick six and there's lee who's such a colorful character in this game we talked to him a lot on the program and it's got to mean a lot to him here this has been a nice horse for him and has been so philanthropic particularly when it comes to the permanently disabled jockeys fund and jockey's causes he's really been a guy who has stepped up but man casa creed did he finish i mean he really finished you can't take anything away from how well bound for nowhere ran or chewing gum decidedly best was casa creed junior i think that point was to lee after he crossed the wire and bill mott what a win here from this horse who now has back-to-back wins at 7 8 of the elusive quality and now a great one at six furlongs in this diaper and yes i think we're gonna start uh remain seeing him at these shorter distances yeah i think they found his niche you know everybody you know when they have a good horse particularly a three-year-old whether it's turf or dirt the bigger races are going longer distances so you understand the need to try it and he wasn't bad at it he won the grade two hall of fame going a mile but this is obviously what he wants to do be a closing sprinter there's the hall of famer bill mott one two it's a bill monica zachta in this jupiter casa creed chewing gum 10-1 over 28-1 bout for nowhere the even money favorite winds up third stubbons checking in in fourth the 10 horse hit 18-1 we're gonna head over to churchill downs fourth race coming up and start to pick five under the twin spires 40 claiming sprint sorry a other than allowance at a mile one turn mile coming up in this race that starts the pig four and the three to five favor this tune in has been running these last two starts at gulfstream just zip codes better than the rest of this field just monster numbers can that golf stream form translate here to churchill well that's the question i mean this is a horse that languished for a while on the turf had been running a bit shorter the last two races have been otherworldly for him can he carry that form to kentucky three to five favorite and with the way he has been running in south florida he deserves to be we'll see if he can keep this win streak going he's won four in a row here's travis stone with race five from churchill downs they're in the gate and they're off he's my honey badger sent on for speed right off the mark cool bobby is showing some speed as well but it's he's my honey badger out there setting the pace kool bobby comes on to grab second savoy's erasing third tuning up into fourth akadi's verve is at the back in fifth up the shoot they go and coming for the main track and he's my honey badger with a short lead now joined by cool bobby so these two are head and head as they cross over a margin of three back to savoy who comes away in third and then it's okay's verve toward the inside trying to move up toward the rail tuning is there as well they're fourth and fifth and only four lengths off the lead back stretch run he's my honey badger and cool bobby going head to head the opening quarter goes in 23 and one fifth seconds they're halfway home now he's my honey badger short lead cool bobby right there the opening half and 46 and two fifth seconds they're on the far turn together savoy's not far behind from third given a little bit more rain with three for longs to go tune in is starting to come with a run now up to be fourth on the outside under pressure though so to a katie's verve at the back of the pack they come for the top of the stretch he's my honey badger and cool bobby take their battle past a quarter pole he's my honey badger short lead top of the stretch cool bobby to the attack these two head and head with one for long to go and tune in third and trying to close at the eighth pole he's my honey badger digs down deep cool bobby surges up alongside cool bobby and he's my honey badger tune in trying to close in late from third he's my honey badger cool bobby straining to the finish photo it's very tight either cool bobby where he's my honey badger nose is up and down tune in was third this is very tight he's my honey badger the one on the inside the tool called bobby on the outside what do you think meg gosh this one i didn't dare call they linked up it was slight head bobs on the wire outside i i don't know about that one i think that that one could be a dead heat might have been the two it was close and for tune in source was on the lead last time outsourced was so far back left with a lot to do started to finally make a move and you heard from travis stone was sort of all in and just did not have enough of the tank today he ran on okay but nothing as flashy as what he was doing in south florida's last two starts the effort was fine but it was not nearly as good as his last two one more look this angle not gonna be able to decide it for us here i wouldn't think we'll need this photo but you thought the two i think it's the two narrowly don't think the inside might have got that last slight bob right there could be it's tight both of them five to two on the board we'll make it official in a minute meanwhile back at belmont casa creed 23 dollar winner there's bill mott exacta 167 wow for a hall of fame trainer that's it for for a dollar 160 big number there casa creed your winner this great one jeiper let's head downstairs to maggie and so pleased to be joined by two familiar faces mike francesa and lee einseidler and guys this is actually jimmy creed's first grade one winner but you're not a unfamiliar face to this winner's circle walking down the alley here with casa creed a horse that you've loved from the beginning lee yeah we sure did um we loved him since we got him as a yearling in uh saratoga in our keeneland and then he broke his maiden in saratoga off the uh off the grass and he's been great and now he's a stakes winner at a mile and seven furlongs and our grade one winner at six and to do with my friend of 25 years mike francesa is just uh really really special well mike you had said that you thought all along this guy could be a turf sprinter and you've been rewarded immediately with these two starts and now getting this grade one you know it's a game as horse there is he tries so hard every time but i didn't love him in the beginning like we did but the last year i kept saying we should try to sprint him because i just thought it was the right thing for him if he could become maybe the next disco partner the next horse who could really fly that was a disco partner type of move today from behind from last to first and that was a tremendous performance and the winter grade one you know what this horse right now is one of the best turf sprinters in the country no question absolutely he stamped himself guys massive congratulations in winning this jack pocket diaper here at casa creed guys thank you well grade one wins sprinting on the turf on one of racing's biggest days gotta put him in the mix and we're gonna see him move forward and certainly give himself a chance to cement that status jake certainly stamped this ticket to go on to the breeders cup turf sprint grade one action continues grade one ogden phipps is next in the disstaff division big scratch of swiss skydiver valiants had other plans letrusca though can she back up what she did in the grade one one to beat let's go to gary stevens to kick things off yeah guys look i've got all of the respect in the world for essential quality i think he was the best horse in the kentucky derby but saying that i love drumbauer's race in the preakness stakes he can take another step forward today i like where he's drawn just outside of essential quality i think that hot rod charlie and rock your world are going to go out blazing early and possibly essential quality and johnny v he can sit back let him relax and keep his eyes on essential quality and be the last guy to move and maybe nail him on the money guys maybe we'll see another spoiler maybe we won't i'm rooting for essential quality i'm rooting for rumba i'm rooting for the whole field i want to see a great race guys [Music] ron bauer for gary stevens john velasquez he's won the belmont twice in his career he'll be the new pilot on board today real quick dead heat by the way being told back at churchill downs in that fifth race i called the shot man you did who do you like of the belmont i like ron bauer as well i love this preakness i think it was a true race and i loved the way he trained here this week i think he gets over this track very efficiently and he's a horse that waits on his rider's cues so critical to get the mile and a half loved the efficiency of his stride i love the two-year-old champ today he had that tough post-14 got bumped out of the gate extremely wide throughout the running of that race no one was making up ground in that kentucky derby it seems like this race is suited for him son to tap it we'll see if brad cox go dolphin can get their first win in a classic as you take a look at everyone's selections i think those are those are the right horses there um in any order maybe we just box super huh we'll see crazy things can happen in this mile and a half race gonna be fun to see coming up the 11th on the card and we're gonna don't forget we're gonna be back for the final two on the
