American F35 vs Russian SU35 - which would win?

su-35 are two of the world's latest fighter jets we thought it would be interesting to compare the capabilities of these modern aircraft and try to determine which would win in a real aerial battle with different functions the pentagon plans to acquire over 3100 f-35s which if delivered will make the f-35 one of the most numerous fighter jets ever built on the other hand the su-35 is an upgraded version of the su-27 though an exceptional jet with much improvement russia plans to build more than 3 500 su-35s it's so modernized that it attracts the attention of many countries but only china could make a purchase number one let's have a look at some specifications first as of today around 500 f-35s have been built so far f-35b and f-35c are comparatively more expensive as a per unit cost of an f-35b and f-35c are 116 million and 109 million respectively while the f-35a price tag is around 79 million operated by a crew of one the aircraft's empty weight is twenty nine thousand three hundred pounds maximum takeoff weight is around seventy 000 pounds the jet is powered by a single engine producing 43 000 pounds of thrust with the help of this engine the aircraft can gain a top speed of mach 1.6 or about 128 miles per hour with a maximum range of 1700 miles the jet can combat within the radius of 770 miles f-35's climb rate is around 45 000 feet a minute and it can reach a maximum altitude of 50 thousand feet the aircraft is fitted with four internal hardpoints and six external weapon stations with a total payload capacity of eighteen thousand pounds f-35 is also armed with a 25-millimeter four-barrel rotary cannon in contrast around 115 su-35s have been built so far with a per unit cost of 85 million dollars operated by a crew of one the aircraft comes in at a weight of 41 888 pounds with a maximum takeoff weight of 76.59 pounds the jet is powered by two after burning turbofan engines generating 64 000 pounds of thrust combined with the help of these engines the jet can reach a top speed of 1500 miles per hour with ferry range of 2 800 miles the jet can combat within a radius of 990 miles su-35's climb rate is around 55 000 feet per minute and it can reach a maximum altitude of 59 000 feet the aircraft comes with 12 hardpoints with ordnance carrying capacity of 17 630 pounds the fighter jet is also armed with a 30 millimeter auto cannon [Music] number two the f-35 has led this category as su-35 is not a stealth aircraft at all however for perspective the su-35's radar cross-section is between one and three square meters or about the size of a large table while the rcs of the f-35 is about the size of an insect however su-35 does have the hypothetical capability to detect f-35 at close ranges using its infrared surge and tracking sensors assisted by its radar however these sensors would have to be queued to focus on exactly the right part of the sky to have a chance of generating a target track by contrast the f-35 will know exactly where the su-35 is at extremely long range and can position for complete control of engagement from the beginning with superior kinematics number three su-35 is based on su-27 platform so its believe that this radar can detect a target beyond 300 miles on the other hand su-35 employs a powerful herbis e radar capable of detecting an aerial target up to 250 miles away with the help of this radar su-35 can track 30 airborne targets and engage eight targets simultaneously in terms of avionics f35 probably has the edge with the help of sensor fusion and pilot vehicle interface the sensor's performance might be similar as russians make decent radars and they have excellent electronic warfare systems but f-35 is led in this category due to its next generation computing power ultimately the russians will be able to resolve technical glitches and can produce electronic warfare systems capable of countering stealth jets [Music] number five both planes are equipped with state-of-the-art missiles capable of shooting each other su-35s need to carry ordnance outside the fuselage is a slight disadvantage but in general the first aircraft to score a clean hit will win su-35 can carry 12 missiles while f-35 carries just eight but su-35 usually fires salvos of six missiles with mixed seekers meaning the 12 missiles only really provide two credible shots [Music] the f-35 could engage su-35 from further away as it's harder to detect due to its stealth advantage so it could potentially make more economical use of its missiles f-35 is capable of carrying almost every legacy weapon that's carried by f-16 f-15 and f-18. so f-35 and su-35 prove to be two planes of significantly different talents su-35 carries more missiles can fly further and is slightly cheaper the russian jet is based on earlier sukhoi models that are proven to be effective in traditional dogfighting but f-35 wants no part in traditional dogfighting battles that occur when the two planes are within visual range of each other seem to favor the russian jet but importantly battles begin beyond visible range a single su-35 simply stands little chance against a similar number of f-35s because the u.s jets employ far superior stealth technology f-35 pilots need not worry about out-turning or out-foxing the agile su-35 as they could find and target the aircraft from much further away and end the dogfight
