I think "different feel" is more accurate. Whenever an emotionally powerful song is turned into a dance version it changes the "feel" of the song. AVICII's version has positive uplifts because its a dance song, dance songs even with "emotional" lyrics , for me, leave you feeling still up and have a happier tone because it's meant to be music you can dance to primarily, and dancing is in essence a celebration and very positive at its core (unless you are the stripper, than it differs per situation) this version is all about the message, and combined with an accoustic guitar, is about pushing the struggle, the humanity, its meant to make you feel like the issues he talks about are your issues.
This issue makes me want to dedicate my life to saving people and the world. Avicii's makes me want to go show that hot chick in the corner my sweet dance moves.
I found it really odd that Avicii didn't credit Aloe Blacc in the title. I feel it should have said "featuring Aloe blacc" or something. It's not like he's some random unknown singer.
Just to clarify for the people in this thread who are misinformed...
"In an interview with the Daily Star, Avicii, who had previously labelled "Wake Me Up!" as "a fun experiment" during an exclusive chat with MTV UK, said: "I had a demo with Mac Davis singing, the guy who wrote all the Elvis Presley stuff, but I needed another singer to do the parts. At the same time I was tipped off about doing another track with Aloe Blacc and I started working on that track. When I was with Mike Einziger from Incubus, we came up with the chord progression and the melody for Wake Me Up but no real lyrics. None of us sing and we really needed to get that demo down and the only person I knew that lived in LA was Aloe, so I called him and he was free. Lyrics come really easy to him so he wrote them in a couple of hours and we finished the track."
It's the video that gives it a new definition, not the song its self.
Apparently, we french are hipsters, because that's le version that gets played on the radios here. I never heard the Avicci one before, so I was a bit confused about that whole "accoustic version" of a song that I only ever heard in this form.
So for those of you that feels that Aloe Blacc doesn't get the credits he deserve, rest assured that he gets plenty from France. For what it's worth.
"I'm big in Japa... France!"
How does the acoustic aspect of it give it a different meaning? It's the exact same lyrics, and meaning, in borth versions. If you mute this version and play Avicii's it's the same thing. You just couldn't decipher the lyrics on your own.
This is one of the reasons i hate /r/music. that song in original had the SAME EXACT MEANING, but just because it is "le pop music" and you only listen to le gems and Queen and Beat[le]s you dismiss the original song.
i don't care what anybody says, the original is better. It had the same meaning PLUS it was actually catchy, unlike this.
I think Aloe Blacc is such an underrated guy. Here he is covering Michael Jackson - Billie Jean with a string quintet, being classy as fuck
Makes me think about another song. It's called "Year Of Summer". First there was only a sort of hardcore version of it. But then the singer decided to make an acoustic version. For me, these actually have a different feel and meaning. But I guess that is kind of logical, because the hardcore one is just a pure four to the floor thing.
