[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the time is now 24 minutes past aide Alma Deutscher wrote her first opera at the age of seven she wrote a violin concerto at nine this year her full-length opera of Cinderella will be premiered in Vienna she's just 11 I started playing a piano when I was 2 and the viola when I was 3 and actually I started to compose when I was 4 so writing things down on paper you just found that the music was coming to you yes I didn't even know that it was called composing then I just sit at the piano and play the ideas I hide in my head when you think of musical prodigies the names Mozart Schubert and Mendelssohn come to mind but here's another Alma Deutscher doc Anna Anna give it sir my daughter Anna dings lock amid heightened the preteen Hudson and kindergartner [Music] a very young classical composer in England is now living her very own fairy tale Alma Deutscher began playing the piano when she was 2 and the violin a year later and now she is written and composed her first opera at just 11 years of age so with Cinderella it's really interesting the way you've changed the stories we see in my in my opera and I don't have a sure because I think the shows a little bit silly the Prince doesn't fight the durell with the show that she finds her with a melody so and you see now she isn't just a pretty girl who cleans and keeps quiet and she's actually clever and she's a composer and the prince is a poet and so um what happens is that if as part of the plot Cinderella finds a poem that was written by the prince he doesn't know that the prince wrote this poem and but she loves it and she's inspired to put it to music and so in the bowl she sings it to the prince but she doesn't know that she wrote the words and he doesn't know that she wrote the music so it's all a bit of a muddle and but in the end they find each other like lyrics finds music [Music] Alma's opera Cinderella has just begun rehearsals in Vienna [Music] [Applause] [Music] what do you think because the content wasn't tell you're really gonna play like everybody [Music] Alma's progression as a composer has been carefully recorded by her father guy so this is Alma age seven in Berlin waking up first thing in the morning with a melody that she had in and just playing it all so she's singing one of the singers and her right hand is playing the other singer [Music] you hear this little girl on the piano with it and but and then you hear this this is what is it was in her mind you know that it's it's almost blood-curdling is Nick there when you you guys are so dramatic and it doesn't make me look at when little girl gets up in the morning and play something on the piano but that's that's what she would have heard in your mind oh yeah so she was playing in a concert in the north of Israel on a sort of type of violin course in master classes in the concert in the end and we had a very long car journey back home and the moment we came back home she essentially ran to the piano she very quickly were just a few bars of all of the beginning [Music] and this turned into the main area of the opera where Cinderella composes music to the princes words that she finds [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] okay you've got the whole score in front oh yes across the whole orchestral score turning the pages for me because because you see because it's over Oh Lord orchestra we do Orchestra just when they sound like imma bring something new and you can hear almost every composer but in her own way it's her own way of composing and that I find it beautiful and I've really have never heard something like that before so you know it's it's not a TV show it's not it's natural that's all [Music] the guy won't ask I mean is it true that Alma learnt to read music or understand me that before she learned to read yes that's that's still she she could read music when she was three or just shortly after that but she didn't learn to read until she was until you know four and a half so in this hat here I have notes if you could pick some full notes from this hat and then I would improvise a piece based on the notes all right how many happen yes close your eyes [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so I just take a minute to think it over and then barely 40 seconds later Alma magically transformed those four random notes [Music] this started stream the early on improvising this melodies amici she was around for and in the beginning we didn't understand of member sort of thinking what is it she's playing I mean which tune is she trying to play because it didn't it wasn't familiar and it's unsteady I asked it whoa actually what is it you're trying to play and she said no no it's it's my melody you know it's something I hear in my hand that's rather fascinating the way she's become attached to her skipping-rope well she got it for her birthday from her Auntie before that she used to wave those twigs and sticks around and then she got that nice pink thing and since then she's never parted with it mmm I'm not a psychologist I don't know why it is but it is a fact that she says I can't dream without my skin [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah I think a little bit and just something and the King if on where you started on 554 couldn't just try it if you just sang those two bars on octave lower well Alma is really a force of nature isn't she I don't know that I've come across anyone of that age with quite such an astonishing range of gifts no now sing it up it's natural fur it's play and I think it was play for
