hey everybody adam here with hometown acres welcome back to what is hopefully the final chapter in this pond build pond repair video series we've put together for you guys talking about moving dirt clay compaction standpipes emergency overflows all that good stuff now typically i shoot my intros before we go ahead and start doing work however this one as you can see behind me the pond is already done and it does appear to be holding water so there's a little sneak peek for later now i'm not shooting this intro after the fact for as some sort of creative genius to try to get you guys to watch the videos longer in fact it's the exact opposite of genius i shot an intro to this video right before we started moving dirt and then i put it in my hoodie pocket my gopro and i'm pretty sure it fell out and it's buried somewhere over there under about nine feet of dirt so the exact opposite of genius however the pond is done let me go ahead and show you guys the video footage of how we got from there to here here's another good look at our clay content of this dam you can really see it once you've hit it with a roller because it just smooths right out looks like a bunch of play-doh so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well it's all wrapped up and i gotta say this looks incredible it looks even better than it did the first time if this doesn't hold water i don't know what else we can do aside from cementing the whole bottom or putting a liner in the whole bottom if this doesn't hold i think i'm going to call it quits and we're going to turn this into a high bank go-kart track could you imagine that'd be a lot of fun anyway since this is all done now we got some rain rolling in this evening i'm gonna go ahead and take our spring head feeder pipe and pop that back into the pond while we were working on this we kind of just took that flung it around the back side of the dam but now that we're done we can go ahead and pop it back in here and now i think we should be able to start filling the pond fingers crossed everybody [Music] [Music] okay so two things i think we're going to get questions on on this core trench the first one is why would you dig out a trench just to backfill it back in well the whole reason for doing that is you want to get below virgin ground and that way if there is any gravel veins or shale veins running through that water could find its way to and then seep through the dam you're basically disturbing that digging it up breaking up any kind of vein that might be running through the dam then you backfill it and pack it in now there is a discrepancy between how we did this versus what captain kleeman and dirk perfect told us to do which was they said you should probably dig out a trench wide enough to get your roller in so you can put in 6 to 12 inch lifts all the way up and roll each lift in what they ended up doing was just digging a trough that was about four feet wide which was the width of the bucket and then when they put the dirt back in they humped it up in the middle and crowned it so that way that big 20 thousand pound roller with its 66 inch roller on it all of the weight of that roller is only on about a 12 inch crown so you are really concentrating your weight your mass the vibratory roller on a very small area so that should be able to pack that back down in now don't get me wrong that is definitely something i asked them about as they were doing it because like i said they were putting it together a little differently than how captain clean and dirt perfect explained to me how it should be done and i just wanted to make sure we were still going to get the proper compaction but after they explained how they were doing it and how you know the entire weight of that roller was going to be on like 12 inches worth of crown i thought okay yeah that sounds like it's gonna work but yeah we have been getting tons of questions about people wanting updates on the pond so here you go there is our little puddle in the bottom of the pond now the good news is we do have about a half an inch of rain in the forecast this evening so right now this is zero rain we haven't had any rain for nine days this is just the spring water that's been coming in over the course of 24 hours we get a half an inch of rain tonight this should start to come up really rapidly i'm actually kind of bummed that the rain forecast is for this evening or for tonight because i did want to set up a time lapse and hopefully catch you know the water level coming up but it's gonna be in the dark i'm not gonna be able to get it unfortunately if we do get a good rainstorm coming up in the future that's during the day i will absolutely come out here and set up a camera for you guys so we can watch this start to fill i have 99 confidence that this is now going to hold water we got rid of our drain pipe with a cap and water seeping through the dam we've got compaction i don't see how this could possibly leak now but anyways guys fingers crossed this is the last video we have to talk about problems with the pond hopefully going forward we can just focus on all the fun things like ice skating and swimming and building a floating dock off the dam here and putting in our beach area so if that all sounds good i hope you guys enjoyed this video give us a big thumbs up click that subscribe button we'll catch you on the next one thanks for watching [Music]
