hello everybody and welcome to my channel I'm a professional Russian tutor and here today I'll tell you the difference between Russian cases and I'll try to show you that it's not as difficult as it may seem and that you will be able to understand the difference and use them correctly so there are six cases in Russian what is a case in Russian in case it's a situation when you have to change the engine of the word and you have to change it in a particular way depending on a particular situation why do we have to do it why do we have to use the cases this way we show the connection between the words for example in English we can use the preposition of uh to say the car of my mom but in Russian instead of saying off we would change the engine and it would be a particular case so a case when something possessed to somebody and this way in this situation we always change the ending in a particular way and I'm going to tell you today how so there are six cases in Russian the first one we can skip because it's a nominative case it's when the world actually does not change so it's a very simple situation when we say this is something so if you know a bit of Russian I can tell you uh ETA telephone this is a phone so telephone it's the word you take from the dictionary you don't have to change it because it's a simple sentence this is another example I can tell you I have um and again after I have you don't have to change anything you just take it as it is in the dictionary um notebook like that so in all these simple sentences you don't really need to think about the cases so without nominative we have only five cases three of them are simple and two of them are difficult I'm telling you this from the experience working with the students from Europe and from Asia so everybody struggled with only two and almost everybody gets quite quickly progresses with me in other three so three easy ones are prepositional because you have to change the engine after their prepositions after the prepositions and means in so whenever you say in the park on the table you have to change the next word and you simply have to add yeah to the end yeah for example if you want to say in the park Park is Park the same park so to say in the park you just say so you have to add yeah to the end table is stole so on the table you say na stale restaurant in the restaurant at work which is in Russian we say like on on work so it's going to be a work is rabota like robot rabota and so here we have to change R uh we just get rid of it and we say yeah just like by our Rule and then we say so let's repeat this phrase again after me parque foreign good job so this is prepositional case again we use it only after the prepositions and we add yeah all the time always it doesn't matter if the word is masculine of family and it doesn't matter what the it only matters that we describe that something in a particular place on the table in the gym and so on so it's basically an answer to the question where where is the next case is accusative normally when students come to me and they study Russian from zero they get to know accusative from the very first lesson they don't even realize it but they already start using it um we have to use accusative after the action for example when we want to say um I love something I buy something I see something so whenever we use a simple verb and after the verb we have to say something we have to change the ending in that something and why this case is quite easy is because we have to change only feminine words so masculine words doesn't have to change and family and words are very easy to determine because they all end on ah so for example rabota work rabota it's a feminine world because it ends on ah telephone it's masculine because it doesn't end on another example of the feminine word is cartina a picture cartina cartina cartina so cartina and on Ah that's why it's feminine word if I want to say I see visual it's like Vision so I see yeah I I don't have to change the world because telephone is masculine you can repeat after me yeah visual telephone but if I want to say I see the picture cartina I have to change ah for U so in feminine word we always have to change R for o to make accusative so to say the word after the action and it's gonna be yavision cartoon um right now I can see a camera so it's camera and Camera it's coming in the world because it ends on R so I have to say yeah so I have to change afo and what is curious is that even if we talk about people so my name is Anna and if I want to say I see Anna I have to change my whole name I have to say yeah also if the masculine word is actually a person then we also have to change so if the name is drawn let's say your name is John and I want to say I see John so for masculine who is alive so people on the people telephone we don't have to change uh we have to add ah so yeah we have to add ah for masculine if it's a real person next case is instrumental it's already a little bit difficult but luckily this case is not used very often so uh it used only in particular situations if you want to say to the sport to do yoga to do something else some activity so you have to use this case and it's going to be the engine om for masculine words so if you have a word sport we in instrumental case we'll have to change it for sport thumb even though the engine is home we pronounce it like arm so it's sportam and so after the word to do the nimatza we use sportam for feminine words we have to add the Indian way way so yoga it's the famine word and we change it for yogai yogai again it is oi but we pronounce it like a yoga like in a casual way yoga so let's say again yes and you may use sportom yes and you may use yoga another situation when we use instrumental case is if you want to say we use after the word wins we always use instrumental keys so if you want to say tea with sugar which is chai e Sahar Sahara it's a masculine word so the engine would be um and with its Sun we say saharon foreign let's try to say tea and honey chai melt tea with honey tea and milk it's a neutral word but all neutral words change like masculine words so we say tea with milk tea and the cake chai e tort tea with cake tarton and sweet it's a feminine word tea with sweet chives also if you want to say that I go for a walk with my dog or with my friends always and we use a name we also have to add the engine I'm going to say I work with John yeah I added um because John it's masculine foreign I added oil anai because Anna is feminine I hope you understood these three cases and then we move into the most difficult one genitive and Native okay let's move to the next cases genitive and dative these are the most difficult cases because you have to use them after a particular verb so it basically brings us to the situation when we have to know which case we have to use after a particular verb but I'm going to give you just a few uh common common situations when we have to use alternative and dative so first let's look at the endings for genitive you can see the first situation in genitive is excessiveness just like I told you before for example I want to say a friend of my mom so I'm going to say drook next I'm going to say a car of my dead so we change the second word I'm going to say a car of my brother mashina brata another situation when we use genitive is when we say I don't have something so if I want to say I have a phone I say um Telephone whatever I want to say I don't have something I say um and then I have to add the word in genitive um telefona foreign it means I don't have something in this case we use genitive these are the most common situations when you use genitive the last case is dative and what you need to remember about this one is we use it when we do something for somebody else when we give somebody a present when we call somebody when we text the message um so whenever we have to say somebody and when we do something for this person and you have to use dative um so let's talk about the presence yeah but that is all right guys I hope I explained to you the difference between the cases and you're gonna get on the better and better on it if you want to get to my lesson please contact me and we are going to go through the easiest cases really quickly over a week and the most difficult ones General dative it would take about a couple of months so you would get more confidence with it okay see you in the next videos write me a comment subscribe
