all right you guys you tape don't look at my armpit okay we're recording I live here with my husband Daniel Gordon is also an artist and our two kids I feel like I woke up from a coma and suddenly I was like a hypochondriac that's also a kindergarten teacher cooking at like a shitty restaurant I think I have a lot of different parallel practices that all kind of inform each other [Music] a sculpture that then you can view in the round some of those things are sculptural and they sit on the wall and my make outdoor sculpture and I make things that are more installation doorbell hold on one second after I finished grad school I went to Pompeii well we were there some archaeologists told us that all of the frescoes at Pompeii had been restored with this terracotta color in mind Pompeii red but apparently that was not the original color of the frescoes I just really loved that our sense of these canons of art history still engaged fiction and a sense of humor so when I came back from that trip I wanted to make something that kind of reflected that play that was really a foundation for me fun like this interesting looking through our history on tour sometime oftentimes the surfaces in my artwork refer to higher ones like marble or ceramic but I'm really making use of more contemporary materials like acrylic and paper and paint you can see these types of marks that I'm making like a grocery list like you see there yogurt garlic milk I needed those when I first started making this body of work I was looking at a classical greco-roman figurative sculpture and then my references started to become arranging and looking cubism Matisse saved on how you're looking at like Pokemon if you want to work and let them home just like get a really good lock kind of a studio door and soundproof it that's my advice I'm a social creature so I'm always trying to figure out who ways that other people I admire have liked captured something I'd like to also express I became really recently for example and fatherhood Oh up it is that there's really not a lot of positive representation of fatherhood that whereas for motherhood it's like from the fertility figure forward we have so many images of motherhood to aspire to how could you be a good father good parent as a man if you don't have those images to look at it's just like you know I just love making things with my hands that's like my favorite part of that you know and I think it's all good and it's all horrible something that like I'm making that goes beyond what I expected for it is the total climb and alchemy of making things [Music] you
