Alaska Cruise - What I Packed vs. What I Wore vs. What I Wish I Packed | August 2021 Sailing (NCL)

hi taylor hmm okay maybe it's an angle thing i'm gonna change the angle [Music] hi friends i am taylor with this happy place and before i came to alaska i had absolutely no idea what to pack for an alaskan cruise and one video that really really helped me was what i packed versus what i wore versus what i wish i had packed and adding that last bit on myself so i'm gonna repack my luggage we are flying home tomorrow and i want to show you you know what i brought based off the recommendations what i actually wore and what i wish i would have brought more of or had left at home because i didn't need i should mention we were in alaska the end of august the trip started august 21st tomorrow's august 28th so this may be a little bit different if you're coming in june or july but something to keep in mind so let us start with the things i really really think that you are going to need the first is this really fuzzy nice and thick jacket it's nothing special it looks really dirty right now because this is actually one of the things i wish i would have brought more of i have another one at home this is from uniqlo we got it in disney springs in january it's 20 this thing was amazing i wore it on the plane i wore it around the ship i wore it it was warm enough to wear outside i wear whale watching and i was like oh i won't need the second one and i really really wish i would have brought the second one so that something like this is super helpful also on the heavier jacket side before we came i did get a ski jacket this is a three in one so it has the fleece layer inside that can be removed and then most importantly the rain proof outer jacket with the hood we got very very very lucky on this trip and it actually didn't rain hardly at all we had a little bit of rain yesterday when we went salmon fishing and this kept me completely dry but it was also really warm we wore it on a glacier i wore it i could have worn this one when we went whale watching too it would have been great but the hood the weatherproofing and then the inner lining that can be removed is really important and i got this on amazon for like 90 dollars so it's not a super super expensive columbia or anything but this has been great and i'm going to pack the luggage better than just shoving it in here don't worry all right something else has been good it's just a little lightweight this is a workout jacket it was good the ship is not cold if you're staying inside so this has been good just for walking around inside i'm actually going to wear this home on the plane tomorrow as well and then i brought this i wore it for maybe an hour two hours yesterday another just lightweight thing probably could have left that at home but if you run cold but not too cold that might be worth i brought a lightweight button down a shirt i wore this for 30 minutes yesterday i'm actually throwing it in the trash because it has holes in it so that one could have left it home didn't need anything like that this was great a nice you know printed long sleeve shirt it's cute you can wear it to dinner you can wear it in alaska i left actually a couple shirts similar to this at home and i kind of wish i would have brought those nice and warm long you know covers everything but not too hot so that one that one is definitely a brain sweater the one i'm wearing now and this one both worn i'd say bring some nice sweaters for dinner it can be a you know a little chilly when you're eating but not too bad definitely glad i brought that hoodie definitely should have brought more of these this i wore several times to the point that it like kind of smells so can't wear this home tomorrow um oh there's another shirt in it i'm a trash human look at that um definitely bring hoodies i think jake would agree from men as well hoodies are really important because they're easy to throw on and you can just like toss it in your bag it's lightweight but it's warm so hoodie is definitely a go so this one i didn't bring we bought these in skagway which was our second stop they were 12. but you can see they're really fuzzy and fleece lined on the inside and have the plaid on the outside actually jake bought one and i bought the other and jake's didn't fit his so i fit him so i ended up with it and i actually wore this when we went hiking on a glacier it was one of the layers and it was very warm so if you have anything anything with that fuzzy inside definitely worth bringing workout shirts plain t-shirts shirts you know you can wear plain i brought this i wore maybe half of them so definitely didn't need as many t-shirts as i brought brought three pair of jeans i would say you could go with four for a seven day trip um i re-wore some of them so if you're not into that bring more but jeans are great definitely bring jeans to alaska i brought workout clothes i brought let's see i think i'm missing some somewhere several sets of workout clothes i went to the gym once so i used some of them planned that as you see fit this is definitely something i wish i would have brought more of they are just plain long-sleeve t-shirts a little bit stretchy i have another one that i just pulled out of that hoodie i brought four of them and i had i had packed more and i pulled them out of the bag like i won't need that many and i could have worn these every day i think this was the perfect weight of shirt and then you can just layer on top of it these are great i get mine on amazon you can get like a three pack for twenty dollars and they're really stretchy and great so love love love those i brought two pair of lined leggings that i got on amazon including the ones i'm wearing right now i like these ones because they have pockets which is nice if you're a legging person and get a couple of these they were really great and i wasn't only one day that i was only wearing them and we were going to the glacier and it was a little little chilly i just threw on another pair of pants over it so definitely the fleece line leggings i brought two pair of shorts one i wore in seattle and one i wore to and from the spa so i think two pair of shorts was the perfect amount for me i brought a skirt that i'm not gonna end up wearing i might wear it tonight but i don't think so so that one i did not need to bring probably my favorite thing that i bought for this trip and that i'm gonna continue wearing back home are waterproof pants again it did not rain we got so lucky it was not wet in alaska when we were there but it it rains a lot everyone tells you it rains a ton in alaska a little bit of rain we had yesterday i was wearing these green pair and felt nothing completely waterproof and they add their windbreak material too so if it's really windy that helps with staying warm so definitely get yourself some pants again got these on amazon super cheap love them so many pockets so many pockets and then we'll do bathing suits i brought three and i wore all three to the spa and a cover up which i wore obviously if you have one bathing suit that's fine too i just have a lot then all right let's let's move on to shoes best purchase this was a spur-of-the-moment purchase i was shoe shopping actually the shoes i'm wearing they're these cute little fashion boots they're not like hiking boots by any means i've worn these absolutely the most there's so find a cute pair of comfortable boots you can wear with jeans you can wear with leggings and you are golden these have been great i also purchased a pair of hiking boots i got these on amazon for like forty dollars they are completely waterproof we of course of the excursions we were doing we needed some waterproof shoes if you are not doing the excursions you probably don't need to bring hiking boots if you have other waterproof shoes if you have like other boots waterproof if you're going to be walking around town is going to be a little bit important if you're coming to last alaska future taylor jumping in here while i was editing this video i realized that i forgot to mention the socks that i bought specifically for this trip there are these part wool part cotton socks and i love them got them off of amazon i will link them down below they are so warm and so soft and comfy a little bit squishy on the bottom to add just that nice impact support and i have been wearing them so much now that it's a lot cooler back at home but or a bunch in alaska as well so definitely make sure you got some warm socks when you are in alaska all right back to cruz taylor another great pair of shoes just comfortable slip-ons i wore these a ton going to dinner walking around the ship going to bars these were great cute super super comfortable i wore them a ton brought one pair of heels i wore to our fancy dinner night so if you want to get dressed up glad i brought those flip-flops to wear around the deck the pool when we went to the spa if you're gonna go to the spa make sure you bring flip-flops you definitely need them brought one pair of sneakers i think out of all of this the sneakers are good for traveling so i'm glad i brought them but i honestly wish i would have brought another pair of these just to have a different set i have another set at home that would have worked um but sneakers definitely bring if you're going to work out or even if you're just walking around town and it's dry or when you're flying as far as more warm weather gear i brought three hats i ended up i had like a beret style fashion one i you don't need that practical hats is definitely good i wore both of these several times warm covers your ears along with a pair of ear muffs the ones that like wrap around your head i wore these whale watching were all of these so bring hats and waterproof gloves a few times my hands did you know get my hands didn't go up my gloves got wet and my hands stayed really dry having the cuff at the top so you can put your jacket over it is nice and important too to help with any windbreaking definitely bring gloves i brought an umbrella it didn't work um but we got very lucky and didn't have to use it and honestly with all of the waterproof gear i probably could have left the umbrella at home i did buy this with the intent if it was cold today could wear this i got it in catch a can it's a fleece another fleece lined cowl neck sweater it was just a souvenir for me says alaska it's really cute i didn't need to wear shakes it's not that cold but glad i have that as a souvenir this was a fantastic purchase not a wear but this is just a little sling bag you know like sling bag backpack but this is waterproof and i use this on all of the excursions lots of pockets on the inside opens nice and big fit a lot of stuff i got some quarters in there now this was really great and i got this for 12 so you can get these really really cheap and jake actually ended up buying another sling back bag to carry his stuff in because it worked really well but the waterproofness is good of course masks i'm hoping you're watching this you know next year and masks are long gone but it is 20 21. the encore has only been sailing for three weeks in alaska masks are required right now so i brought a lot i'm glad i did i mean i brought all of these all of my mask collection that i've accumulated over the last year and a half and i brought a lot of extras too just in case it's a bit overkill but it's good to have if you need them and then i also brought four pair of sunglasses probably too many but i really like sunglasses you're going to need them if it is sunny if you're doing anything with glaciers glaciers can be very bright if you're on them so you'll definitely want to have sunglasses it was not right when we were on there but glad i brought those in with the water reflecting it can be bright anything else that i'm missing binoculars yeah so obviously this isn't a what i you know wore but we jake did bring a pair of binoculars and they were very old and not very great so he went and bought two new sets of binoculars and these were so good for whale watching we when we were coming into icy straight point there were whales surrounding the ship absolutely everywhere and these were really really cool and just like when you're going to the glacier and you're like what's that on the land what's that over there oh what's that look at those rocks definitely bring a nice set of binoculars if you're interested in seeing things but you're coming to alaska so you're probably interested i'm not slippers i did not need to bring slippers i wore these on the plane on the way here and i haven't i really put them on for like five minutes since so did not need slippers i was not in the room long enough for the slippers lastly we did bring a blanket um for the plane and then also just if we were going to be sitting outside we did use this when we were floating down to see the dawes glacier because it's so beautiful you want to be outside but it gets cold because there's glaciers so this was nice and people were like oh they brought a blanket that was really smart and i was like yes it was it was very smart obviously all your toiletries bring what you need what you think you're gonna use but as far as clothes anytime you search for what to pack for an alaskan cruise people are going to say layers and as painful as that is you have you have to pack layers because we had whether near 70 degrees all the way down into like the 40s early in the morning so you got to pack it all because once that sun comes out it can get really warm and you want to be able to make sure you can strip off layers so you're not overheating and add them back on if it starts to rain i hope this video has helped
