so they found the uranium in my checked luggage at the airport so these are my uranium samples from Yerevan and I was kind of nervous about taking these on the plank is turns out things like your any method to detect with the gamma ray spectrometer and they have fairly decent ones those in airports so I was a little nervous about this now especially Chinglish you know from this little dish that's a sort typical background but you actually sort of put this thing out up close I think it's pretty pretty toasty pretty quick and I think the the official u.s. rules for shipping radioactive stuff all right so backgrounds bound point one point two that sort of thing I think the the US shipping rules are it's going to be less than point five on the surface it's all kind of bloody stupid anyway because if what happens on the airplane this went up to four that would do these things on zero flight the highest I've ever seen crazy highest I'd ever seen on the plane anyway so it's obvious they actually found them because they cut all my gray tape and they're very shielded up and in packing quite as well I packed it in finest quality Walmart fishtank Ravel coz shielding basically the more shielding you have the less radiation that's going to come out so it doesn't really matter shielding basically Gish with mass it doesn't matter what there's a kilo of lead or a kilo of Crabill it produces about same shielding it's just grapples a lot easier to come by fills up the holes better and that sort of thing so I had all those and those were packed in the middle of my backpack and you get all of this I remember what I was saying about shielding basically skills with mass well it was surrounded by chocolate I had actually used chocolate for the extra shielding and of course it's a tough shot the backpack so the samples were in the middle so it's too by the time you're on the outside here the radiation was down 2.3 ish so it's about half of what we your legal requirements or that sort of thing anyway so cool I now actually have uranium all from the very mine that fall from the very area that produced a uranium for the Manhattan Project the heme currently I'm starting the extraction process on getting that year ringing out of the rocks next door now I've been doing a lot of interesting stuff over the past month visiting solar roadways measuring radiation on beaches eclipses visiting both hyper loops and much more now other than that I'm back under a roof for the first time in about a month as I can wash in running water something that I previously managed in things like mountain lakes and rivers in the searchlight and God was it nice to unplug for a bit and not give the slightest rat's ass about what drama there was on the internet or the mainstream media was getting its plants all in bunch about I went off into the mountains and when I came back I found that North Korea had tested a missile or something and as I drove hundreds of miles across the plains of America I realized just how little that actually mattered I heard about Charlotte's ville and how one person had been killed by white supremacists and how I arranged the right was that the press didn't cover auntie fur and how rich the media was that Trump didn't condemn the white supremacists and the Nazis actually but at a point there but whatever and it was all over the radio and it went into the deep forest and it was as peaceful as ever my favorite place in America just absolute dead silence stop walking here all you hear is your breathing you stop that do you know your heartbeat 2000 year old trees his giant palace is going up into the sky I watched the rainbow the Sun under the store and without real access to the Internet the world becomes a very big placing you haven't Emily come across places like independence Rock where the Oregon Trail East run through you know where people used to walk or ride across America and if you had got to independence rock by Independence Day then you probably weren't get a freeze to death in winter in trailing down their bridges over engine and yeah the moments did it with hand cards pull them across the wide open lands doing stuff so I went out west with several goals some of which were great successes others rivaled only by this scale of their failure the solar eclipse of course I think went rather well oh that's get there it looks more like a derelict than the future of Transport Oh the Hyperloop they seize where they have the great competition for the future the future I have a transport and time you stop being quite so good to this place more on that later I ate at McDonalds almost every single day hello whose story is to why it ended up being McDonald's but this was essentially a repeat of a anecdotal observation I've had on previous road trips is that good with the more active lifestyle you know going on these long hikes a real the day come back Lena and bouncier so this time I made a conscious effort to eat junk food every day and it's getting closer to the Sun became much closer clips and yeah I still came back about two and a half kilos mat five pounds lighter and a sleeker more oiled machine than what unplugged and went out into the world a month or so ago pretty sick of eating junk food at McDonald's but it does make an interesting counter fall to things like supersize me which probably more proof single atony makes you fat rather than fast food makes you fat and yeah it's outrageously obvious when you go around America being overweight is probably the number one social vector that will negatively affect people's quality of life and it's amazing what you start to notice when you unplug just look around and you're just stunned at the utterly bogus get slim and quick magazines that dominate things like check out ours it's alright so when you're traveling with the more restricted access to food you know you've only got whatever is in the car or water however whatever fast-food you can drive by and then when you come back to civilization and you have a larder and the liberty of choice it's amazing how much my palette has changed lost on the road so for instance when I was starting a long hike you know this little thing you have to start at 4:30 in the morning to avoid the thunderstorms stop stop I would boil up some water and make some ramen noodles cheap fast light and then I would eat them on the first half hour of the hike and these taste is amazing in the chill de with the thirst glimmers of dawn coming into the sky my body went absolutely crazy for these 50 cent noodles a lot of people would describe 50 cent noodles like that went then when coming back to civilization in the airport I forget yeah.he donuts and decided that I was gonna have a donut and coffee a sweet doner something that I would have usually enjoyed and the sweet donut it just didn't even register it did nothing for me it wasn't bad it was he just didn't taste great I also decided when my body needed time to recover after hiking our hard route on one of the highest mountains in the lower 50 states that was a bear he took one look at me and ran off like up around one as well but he was about my size that I hoped the Bears bring a bigger knife took one look at me around that's incredible hey that's my first face-to-face encounter with a bear yeah that was an interesting name so after that I decided to do something safer like look for uranium on the Colorado Plateau because it's renowned for that sort of thing and not only does I find it me you're a man pretty active deposits oh just behind the sign okay a little toasty a little toasty Oh father this uranium absolutely everywhere around it so you stick it under a plant somewhere and immediately goes on the high radiation law that's 50 times background a hundred times background 120 times background ish now the cool thing about the yerevan area you know it essentially uranium vanadium is that it provided America with the uranium for the man at some point and you may live closer to nuclear waste than you think one out of three Americans live within 50 miles of high-level nuclear waste some of which like plutonium is lethally dangerous and will be a will be around for an incredibly long time oh really John that I've got a little of what you lose your shit over all the naturally occurring uranium that actually covers large portions of America here we are almost ten times background radiation and that is just from the rocks in Rocky Mountain National Park one of the characteristics of it is has an extremely long half-life lutonium 239 for example as a half-life of about 24,000 years 24,000 years and that just scratches the surface it takes ten half-lives for plutonium to become harmless so that's 240,000 years ah yeah a mere quarter of a million years well that's nothing is the naturally occurring uranium here has a half-life of about four billion years yeah we should shut down large portions of America because of the dangerous levels of radiation yeah John they'll be that radioactive for millions of years because they've already been that radioactive for billions of years and also took the thermal camera with me and had some fun in various places looking at things like hot springs and of course mounts aunt Helens to see if it was warming up to erupt again or anything you know seeing if that mountain was hot yet then on another volcano of the Cascades Mount lassen on top of the mountain in the wreckage of the caldera which blow up about a hundred years ago I found elemental sulfur which was acting quite a cake for me oh there we go got it yeah it changes color I also noted on route that virtually all of my videos on feminism and atheism and social justice warriors that sort of thing and anti social justice warriors and criticizing the recent rally and things like brexit even that was demilitarized in fact great strings of videos months of work would just demonetized and I just took a look at it inside which again got me thinking about the alternative funding sources all I didn't really have time to deal with that at the time but now I'm back patreon is very good for this sort of thing so when I set up patreon I did it for the video and this was in the early days and they really didn't know what I was doing or how things would work out the bottom line is I over-promised and didn't hold as many patreon hangouts as I would have liked the second was keeping the credits up to date was much harder than expected the former is simple I'm always crazy busy you know this is one of the reasons why this is the first vacation I've had in years and the latter is more obvious with hindsight in the en if there's only a dozen or so people in the credit then it's relatively easy however some people don't want their names on the internet I mean this is why Daxing is bad so you don't want to be broadcasting names unless people are okay with that or some people want to use aliases then when I set up my patreon this was back in the days when criticizing feminism was a genuinely dangerous venture that risked pariah status rather than what it's become now which is the expected position which is all but guaranteed a warm reception so back in the day some didn't want to be credited on the anti feminism videos and some didn't want to be credited on the ante theism videos and so forth but the whole thing very quickly became a bookkeeping nightmare with people coming and going off these lists and of course you had got some jerks in there who insist on being on the credits and then cancel their subscription at the end of them you know because that'll make him a big man or some shit and it was further aggravated by the fact of my bookkeeping skills really hot my strong suit now there will be those who say but doesn't that make you like sarkeesian you know over-promising and under-delivering well no not really because I've got a conscience about this sort of thing and some of these videos are very easy to make and others are marathons with scripts animations calculations and so forth so even though the patreon was initially set up per video in the end I only ended up adding the top-shelf stuff to this which was in the end only about one video in for mostly limited to the top-shelf science stuff and I kept most of the things that you would more counters politics or opinion out of there it's not that some of these videos took less effort some some took a lot of work it's just one of the reasons I didn't want to put these in the patreon sported feed easy it would have just been a gift to people like psyches e'en in that they could have just dismissed the whole thing in saying that you were doing it for money so virtually none of these videos the ones with humanity monetized within the patreon supported feed which means that I got absolutely nothing for doing these which is a shame because I really try and put effort into these videos hell even if you just take this video it's got Geiger counters gamma ray spectrometer is ETL for telescopes eating for an entire month and McDonald's thermal cameras time perhaps footage shots overall America you know there's some real effort that goes into some of this stuff and there aren't many folks should come back from holiday with uranium or from the Manhattan Project uranium area and then decide yeah I'm gonna refine this on you YouTube so I'm gonna update the patreon page I figured this time I'll make it genuinely per video while sourcing their patrons have the option to cap their donation wherever they want you want to cap it after one video no problem and they can reject videos that they don't want to support don't like what I've got to say about the right fine you don't have to support it and if you think it's important and needs to be said then fine you don't like what I said about the left or social justice warriors that's fine you don't have to support it but if you think it's important you can and if you don't like what I say about feminists that's fine you don't have to support it but if you think it's important you have that option and the same thing goes with creationists and the religious if you find addressing the scientific illiteracy boring or unimportant then you don't have to support it oh yeah by the way they call that de pause yeah by the way there was a complete and total dead stop to all global warming for over 15 years and rather than readjust their models current climate scientists employed by your tax dollars simply chalk it up to being the pause yes you want a real touch of irony yes that was steven crowder claiming there's been a total dead stop in global warming you can see the what he's talking about right so he could release this video not only in the hottest year in recorded history but in the hottest August in recorded history some of which like plutonium is lethally dangerous and will be a will be around for an incredibly long time however if you think that be bunking this crap is important I'll do my best to turn those patreon dollars into something good as for what to do with the
