earn the title of Honor Graduate each am must excel in every aspect of basic military training to include exceptional performance in dormatory inspections military studies drill physical training and successfully completed all graduation requirements and have demonstrated that they are ready to take their place as Airmen in the world's greatest air force we will mark their transition today from trainees to Airmen by presenting them with the coveted airman's coin today's ceremony celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of this graduating class our nation's future rests upon the dedication Texas W that was totally sarcastic it's a little chillier probably a little windier and a little less less Sunshine than we would like but I sure hope that you don't let that affect your enthusiasm for what you see standing before you today every one of you came here today because you're proud of your [Applause] Airman well that was a start but we can do better than that we're proud of your Airmen but we're really proud of 487 Airmen standing here today so stand up and show them please [Applause] [Music] trainees for the last seven and a half weeks you've been challenged to reach your maximum potential both physically and mentally your military training instructors have worked tirelessly to ensure you're prepared for service in the United States Air Force in support of our country's National objectives in a moment your instructors will present you the coveted airman's coin signifying your transition from trainee to Airman this simple coin is symbolic of the history and Heritage of the United States Air Force Airmen our history has been written by the exploits of those who came before us as they delivered humanitarian Aid airlifted troops and supplies executed precision air strikes or supported ground operations with close air support you standing before us today will write the future History of the United States Air Force Our Heritage defines who we are as a force of professionals dedicated to Integrity service and Excellence rooted in dignity and respect you define the character of the Air Force with your future service we have the utmost faith in you because every single time we hear you recite that airman's read you adamantly Proclaim at the end that you will not fail and we believe you as the superintendent of basic military training I hereby to introduce to you our nation's newest Airmen but ladies and gentlemen I'd like to take just a moment with you this morning to let you know how three special groups of people have made this day possible to our military training instructors thank you you are the most professional selfless yes to my military training instructors you are the most professional selfless dedicated ncos and Senior ncos in our Air Force you have invested yourselves into every individual standing in front of us today and you've molded them into Airmen of character that embody our core values of Integrity first service before self and excellence in all we do through your leadership you have inspired every Airman before us today and you personally ensure that our new Airmen embody Our Hope for the future of our nation's security Now for the family and friends with us here today your new Airmen will speak about their MTI in ways that you have never heard them speak about anyone ever before so ladies and gentlemen I encourage you to thank any MTI that you see during your stay with us these professionals build our nation's sword and shield they ensure that those individuals worthy to continue our tradition of honor and our Legacy of Valor wear the uniform of the world's greatest air force and these MTI deserve our thanks now to the second group with us here today our honored guests our family and friends with us in the audience ladies and gentlemen just a few short weeks ago you trusted us with your loved ones today I am proud to report to you that your loved ones are ready to wear the fabric of our great nation you will be amazed at how just a few weeks has transformed them they are disciplined focused motivated and respectful they've become a part of something something bigger than themselves Now ladies and gentlemen it might be hard for our new Airmen to explain it to you but trust me you will be able to see it they've taken an oath to defend our nation's interests at home and abroad they will stand with our sister services and our allies to defend peace and security around the world your airmen have joined an elite group and chosen a special way of life one that will involve sacrifice and time away from family and friends that ordinary citizens would never ever be expected to do so ladies and gentlemen your love and support will mean more than ever going forward from today so to all our family and friends whether with us here today or with us here in spirit I am so proud and excited to now include you in our Big Air Force family congratulations ladies and gentlemen now to the last group with us here today our graduating Airmen Airmen today you stand here different in virtually every aspect of your life we've tested your mind your body and your spirit you've learned our core values of Integrity service and Excellence we taught you the importance of dignity respect and the wingman concept these are ideals that will serve you and make you stronger for the rest of your lives you will walk taller you will be more focused and you will earn the respect of everyone you meet because of the virtue of your new status and so the airman's coin that you going to raise their hand and promise to do amazing things for their country but I just wanted to take one quick moment to thank you again for coming to military City USA San Antonio Texas and joining the the gateway to the Air Force and welcoming the newest Airmen into the United States Air Force you know this is a very special place for the United States Air Force every person that enlists in the United States Air Force comes to this parade field and has this event in this very specific place and so I wanted to welcome you to this very special place for the United States Air Force and you know this this is another big moment in your lives as well because I know weeks months maybe years before this very day you had conversations around a dinner table in a living room and you had conversations about these men and women doing incredible things for their country and we know that you've read the news headlines you know what's going on out in the world right now but ladies and gentlemen let there be no doubt that the men and women standing before you today are going to make those headlines sound just a little bit better that's what we've been putting inside them for the last several weeks we've taught them how to think better we've told them how to help each other and in helping each other they will make your Air Force and your country a better and safer place so thank you so much for coming and sharing this very special moment for your families for these new Airmen and for the United States Air Force thank you so [Applause] much I also want to recognize a very special group in the audience with us today will the veterans in today's audience please stand and be re recognized so to my veterans with us in the audience today you need to know that we could not be here today without your legacy of service without your dedication to Excellence your legacy of honor and your tradition of Valor today we are standing on the shoulders of giants just like you so thank you for your service and one final word of thanks to our military training instructors ladies and gentlemen lots of people serve in the United States Air Force but there's only a very select few that create the Air Force these are our military training instructors and they have poured themselves into every man and woman standing in front of you today ladies and gentlemen the MTI are an example of what right looks like they make our Air Force better every single day with every Airman they train so one more round of thanks to our military training instructors now to the Air Force's newest Airman you look incredible and Airman what an incredible way to start 2017 as a brand new Airman in our Air Force congratulations on a job very well [Applause] done and so as we start 2017 you're starting a new life of service to yourselves to your fellow wingmen to your Air Force to your country and to the world and this Legacy of service will make your life better and stronger and it's at moments like this that make me think of an old proverb if you want to feel great for an hour take a nap if you want to feel great for a year inherit a fortune if you want to feel great for your entire life dedicate your life to serving others so over the last several weeks you've been with us hopefully we've put that core of service in you and those core values of Integrity service and Excellence those will make you stronger and make you better and Airman that will help you do amazing things for your country we are counting on you but I know ready and so I really only have one more
