sitting down at a computer to play an FPS game is weirdly complicated it seems pretty simple at first but so many people end up with unnecessary wrist elbow and shoulder injuries while other people just make it harder for themselves to improve by limiting themselves with their physical mechanics when I started FPS games on PC I made pretty much all the mistakes people can make with their posture I've spent a lot of money on different tables and chairs finding better and better setups until I figured out how to actually set myself up to be comfortable and successful and how you can as well the tips I have for this video are great if you're just starting out obviously but they've also come up with aim coaching people who are like radiant and Valerian and they'll help you with all sorts of FPS games so regardless of your skill level and what your preferred game is I'd recommend sticking around until the end when I first started my posture was probably the cardinal sin of FPS games it was so bad shroud himself went out of his way on stream to make sure none of his viewers were aiming like this if you play like this by the way stop stop okay if you play this this is the corner right here this is the this is your desk and if you play like this get off that right now don't play like that I know some people that play like that it is not good that is not a good way to play dude basically I would let my elbow get very low below my table rested on an armrest and then only aim using just my wrist don't do this it can hurt your wrist it will definitely limit your range of motion by forcing you to only aim with your wrist when you're aiming properly your forearm should be able to Glide across the mouse pad this takes away the range of motion from your wrist to your entire arm meaning there's less of an emphasis on your wrist to do everything so it can focus on making really precise motions and it doesn't have to make up for wide angles so how do you actually fix this well normally you'd raise your chair or lower your table but I didn't I made another big mistake I just kept everything at the same height and drop my elbow up onto the table this fixed the immediate issue my wrist was no longer weirdly bent and I was able to aim by letting my arm Glide across the table but I was really vertically limited when I wanted to aim at something above or below me I would have the range of motion of my fingers and then I would have to bend my wrist really weirdly to get any further vertical movements I always knew this was an issue but I really just compensated for it by running a higher vertical sense for a few months and wondering how so many people could use the same vertical and horizontal sensitivities eventually I decided to look into the concept and found a bardo's VOD of 116 targets small I noticed this forearm was moving up and down the mouse pad when he went to targets with different vertical distances so I started doing this with my upper arm at a 90 degree angle from my body and it felt terrible I could either put all of the weight of my arm onto the table with my elbow or force my shoulder muscles to do way more work than they were able to do imagine holding your elbow up at shoulder height all day it would hurt a lot after a little while so I had to raise my chair and lower my table ideally your chair table height difference shouldn't put any pressure on your your forearm or strain on your shoulder usually this means that your upper arm and body don't make more than a 30 degree angle because any more than that and the pressure you have to put on your forearm for the weight of your arm is just too much this angle combined with your chair table height whatever that may be for you will put your elbow at the same level as your tabletop if your elbow is too low even slightly you will feel a lot of pressure being put into your table and you will end up like me unable to make vertical motions if your elbow is just slightly too low there's a chance you just end up shrugging your shoulders to compensate this is especially true if you've already practiced the vertical motions and know what they should feel like this happened to me somewhat recently when I came home from college for Thanksgiving I was playing on a thick plastic table and couldn't get my chair high enough as my legs would hit the bottom of the table since I was tired of spending money on tables that I didn't really find perfect I decided to just make my own table at the right height and thickness this this way I would let my arm hang at a comfortable angle probably around 10 degrees and my elbow would be flush with the table top and it could Glide efficiently now you may notice that after getting the height perfect and everything perfect you still might not be able to slide your arm across the table as easily as you want because there's too much friction this is really common if it's hot outside and your arm sweats a lot in this case an athletic compression sleeve is pretty popular fix make sure the threads in it are perpendicular to those in your mouse pad or your arm will get stuck pretty easily and the sleeve will have the opposite effect that's why it's probably better to venture into the rail world and buy one rather than buy one online unless you're able to see how the sleeve is threaded online if your elbow is too high even just by a little bit which is a struggle I'll have when deciding chair height you'll probably find that you hunch over naturally just a little bit so really try to get as close to perfectly flush as possible but if you can't probably better to be a bit High than a bit low if you're a financial or whatever situation forces you to choose since you can fix being a bit too high by just being conscious about your slouching you can raise and lower your chair by putting pillows below you boards between the chair and the floor or even cutting the chair legs or really any other way that you can come up with as for the table you can find little Table leg extenders on Amazon that will allow you to have a taller table and if you want you can cut the table legs or you can make your own table for like 50 bucks another huge issue people have is they will buy gaming chairs for gaming gaming chairs are possibly the worst marketing scheme I've seen in my life and definitely the worst one that I've fallen for myself a gaming chair is essentially a chair that looks cool and futuristic when paired with an RGB setup and part of this cool future Vibe are the winged Arch whatever you call them on the sides of the chair these force your shoulders Inward and make it hard to sit but if you lean forward you'll find yourself hunched over in no time at school I have a cool loft's chair with no wings but I didn't bring it home with me this winter as badly as I wanted to buy a new chair you guys haven't been watching my videos and subscribing as much as you did when roxa was a big topic so I decided not to spend the money instead I ended up dropping a pillow to push my back forward so my shoulders wouldn't be squished but I ended up not being able to use my back rest so I still lean forward so I put down another pillow behind my back this allowed me to use my backrest without my shoulders being forced together even if you're super thin and These Wings aren't forcing your shoulders together they will still limit your horizontal and vertical motions by literally blocking your arm from moving efficiently so you really do want to do something about these even if it's just a pillow once I personally put my pillows in place my setup became so comfortable that all my pain is emotional no more physical pain from gaming another recommendation is that you'll feel a lot more stable if your feet are flat on the ground if your chair and your desk are really high you can use books as foot rests or a Flawless fails I would say this is the last thing you should worry about it's better to play on your toes than to play hunched over monitor distance is another important topic if your monitor is right in your face it'll be easier to see and play but if it's far away it's better for Eye Health if you want to be really healthy keep your monitor two or three feet away from your face as for your monitor height try to have eye level around the top third of your monitor you don't want to have to bend your neck down for gaming if you're on a laptop a good height monitor is probably impossible so just teach yourself to play by looking down with your eyes rather than your head otherwise you'll hunch over and probably end up with some neck pains if you have a monitor just buy a vase amount stand for your monitor and put it up at whatever height you want it to be if you can't afford one of these you can use books regardless of what you do how far away your monitor is make sure you spend some time resting Your Eyes by looking at things that are far away and just feeling that relaxation and flattening of the lens in your eye thanks for watching subscribe to more
