originally published by winsome games this edition that we're playing with we are playing with the Eagle Griffin games deluxe edition of this we're bringing y'all today the Switzerland map none of us have played it should be a fun learning experience it's a heart map we've been studying it for the better part of half an hour and yeah it's gonna be a fun one should be entertaining so welcome alright let's go into it let's get started you know alright so I am NOT going to teach age of steam there are I've taught the game I think three times in its entirety that I'm not gonna do anymore so what I'm only going to do now is teach the actual expansion map that we're playing so you'll notice this is in mostly the shape of Switzerland now we originally had this vertically and then we were like wait it doesn't quite look right well you're right because that is the shape of Switzerland so we tried to make it in the shape of what it is now the one thing that we did notice is everything to the east of sure I believe is how you pronounce it which is the everything yeah over on the right side just below Liechtenstein or like like selected Liechtenstein dry everything to the east of is cut off on this map so it kind of goes straight through sure going down south so there we go all right so that is the map as its interpreted Switzerland so ok three four player map as you see now things to point out Zurich starts with four cubes in it and then Basel starts with three in it every other city starts with a random two cubes in it now the peculiarities of this map is you're going to notice first off there are a lot of these red lines on all these hex sides those are impassable you cannot go through those red lines also all of these are the Swiss Alps I can't go through those can't build through those either all right building track all track costs four bucks I don't care if it's building upgrading changing whatever four bucks okay so it's going to be an expensive map in and of itself there are three special tiles or three special hexes out here there is the city and I may pronounce this a lot of the all this wrong rawrr on the town here there is a tunnel there and then a tunnel and a trestle here these have these little town markers on them to represent that those are not passable they do not exist until turn five on turn five everything those three then become available and also I should point out that this town roarin can never be urbanized and these will never count as track for the end of the game because nobody built them they just exist they can't be changed they can't be altered etc etc now whenever we move Goods there are three multi colored cities there's one there there's one there and there's one there they accept cubes of all colors including black even though black is not technically printed on those so those accept cubes of all colors also when we do our goods growth during the ninth step of the round Zurich will not only get anything that is in black one that you see there we will then randomly draw a cube out of the bag and add one so it always gets in plus one into a minimum of one there also when we issue shares if we choose not to issue any shares the bank will happily buy back a share or as many shares as you wish at the cost of $8 per share meaning you can issue and this might be one of the only maps that I've seen where it can actually go back down to a minimum of two shares you can never go past two and obviously you can never issue more than 15 as normal there the last thing or yeah I guess the last thing is uh tracks worth 2 points at the end of the game as opposed to a normal one point otherwise it's pretty much normal other than those things pretty much normal other than all of that so there you go that's uh that's how you play Switzerland now how do you play Switzerland well none of us know that but we're going to fumble around and and have some fun so hopefully uh yeah hopefully this should be a good time so with that said teachings done boom done let's get started shall we Louie terrain in mice turn order I have schwa Z Oh huh oh we should just shake them up yeah we could but no want is the question that's kind of what we were saying we want to UM in our 30 minute meta Wow the distribution of cubes that is on that sucks kind of a little for now yeah utterly little thing to do you're right it does suck you should just avoid it I would I would actually start down there yeah this is all impossible can't cross that crank cross that that doesn't exist so this is completely cut off and so returned phone just organized a man that's the ultimate sandbag over down or head right I'll put a purple suit me there that's a little tiger down take point delivering this affirms on that let's go ahead and start losing he does it three nervous now yeah no no no all right so first bid remember it's four dollars per track way hmm yeah so what you're saying is I'm right up against it already mm-hmm well if you go for engineer yeah have any of y'all played Switzerland number one out there and number two how many of you all have never played a jazz theme yet I will bid to curses well I guess three's a good softball bid keep me that's the thing I don't know what I want so why would I spend for for it I'll pass wait and see for is good I bet it is good yeah I got past chomping honestly um which means it's going to be loco there so there we go pink goodness uh yeah I feel like there's two good choices here so I don't feel so bad about going third that's what I'm saying there's three good choices for sure and like a fourth still good choice yeah I mean I don't feel bad about yeah if I want to see what happens in the first round if I'd taken an extra share engineer for sure so I'm gonna stick with first build okay I'm actually kind of glad that Greg got first build and not you either of y'all I don't know why that is I don't have a really great feeling for that but it just felt like well I think it's cuz I play a little weird and not a baby maybe that's it we'll say all right okay I will take her up nice mean yeah it's just a cheaper truck yeah uh-huh does let you control where purple goes out to or yellow rather when we got first more right an engineer which would be 16 bucks I got production to return order pass yeah sticking like oh do turn order pass it's ticking away wait and see what happens don't pink okay okay you think I'd be ready for this I did think you were gonna be ready for it yeah do you have a couple options we have a lot of fun make the blue worthless for me well you're either devaluing the blue or devaluing the black yeah yeah it's kind of so when we're together I'm just sure to spend too much time on this 12 bucks and that was close to exactly what I was going to do well second plan now let's see oh I feel like I messed up already now I do want to point out that there is a red line at the bottom of that looks that are so good yeah I should have either done engineer or urbanized in hindsight mistakes have been made I feel like already so I could build this that's an option but then I feel like I'm kind of cut off a little bit and isolated off to the edge the other options that I see is I could just go straight through there but the problem with that is there's no delivery to be made sorry that's not a great idea I could build between those two but ideally if I would have done that I would have urbanized what is that belt yeah Neil Neil to go south to that and then another option is I could go from Bern over to there oh lordy that'll do you I'm leaning towards that last bit but I think they're tutus yeah I think that's what we're gonna do so let me go ahead and we will come I'm gonna leave this path open fold in the right way so that you can sort of thinking about going over here but now that there are routes available here it seems tempting because irk is just gonna keep having cubes yeah it's a cube rulebook or whatever so all this makes sense so what we're what we're doing right now is we are actually building track which is step four okay I went last time when I had my eye on a still there and build track you know but I think it's plenty for you I think seconds good enough for me because I think you and I while we're competing for the same thing for our same area we're not really competing the same thing though so what is it you're doing that's a great question if seconds good enough for you just go second all right so red chooses first what action oh look a motive yeah and I knew we weren't fighting for the same thing yeah and okay you're in the same area though but the difference between locomotive and second to build and the locomotive and third to build this is worth pretty substantial yeah verbalize it's that our engineer and I think urbanizing cheaper so I did one locomotive right that's what I was happy right so first build is tempting not gonna lie because I know exactly what it is I need to do mm-hmm but it feels kind of wasteful in a sense so the question is is engineer worth it to me is the question for what I'm trying to do is building a fourth track and the answer is no so I'm gonna take first build boom so blue I'm gonna think harder yep take your time I know full disclosure all of us none of us have played this map I have the most experience at Ages team but I've never played this map I saw it when Chris brought it over today for - Florida - okay so yeah I'm thinking hole ears on these aren't green chilly day all that oh god I show chilly signs good chilly sounds wonderful cold wet day does sound pretty good yeah it is nasty nasty outside today hmm good first build huh where you gonna go I could tell you but that would almost any less I think I probably what I go for at least warned I was gonna go mow the lawn but not now happy to give you an excuse warrant Cheers hmm we owe like a lot of money eight dollars and then two or three keep the integrity model map yeah oh crap alright I'm gonna do that's to that and you can have dangling track or incomplete track that's kind of thinking about that because Greg's organizing in case seven shares of a swim just you're only building do track do track and purple right there because that's all I can afford yeah because I'm their name two deliveries okay so we have done first build we have lung code we have urbanized so all of those are done so now we are moved x' no one took first move so red you're up and you're currently at a two locomotive so yeah yes or make it a three I basically have to make it a three oh my eyes are paying attention to that but pink it was I figured way down yet so that's a one for pink huh and yellow wait a minute young bill bill no sorry apologize I was like no I you can leave me at 3 because that's happening no matter what okay yeah so we'll start with pink I apologize okay sorry sorry have two options I can build three tracks I can get down here to this but you won't have it do you well I'm not waters want one one each way if I do this I could potentially have the three right right but then it's a risk if that purple goes why I have to figure out where purple is there or there too for you it seems like that's your best option or you do it trained in the three move mr. pollow Jojo so then what was Dobson if that was what one two three four five hundred percent yeah then whatever comes out here is kind of funneled down there so with that in mind it's probably gonna be with maternally there's only a second turn yeah this will be a good important connection so another yeah I was gonna say if you think about urbanizing possibly that might be a choice gonna be like that there we go all right it doesn't matter right yeah it's the other no okay because they're impassable on either side right so you owe 12 bucks now we go and to move Goods red low code and pink is now doing that for one I apologize again Chris my enough money yellow is 8 11 minus 7 is 4 done and blue blue I'm at 11 minus 3 yellow 8 8 I had it sitting here ready ready to pay there we go mm-hmm all right so now income reduction nobody's past 10 we don't need to worry about it roll the bones all right here don't relax do not wait cities 1 2 1 X 1 and a 6 so wait 6 there and wait to retire hold on what letters are out and none of the ways e Oh you Craig absolutely I'm actually kind of alright let alone made me feel a little better so we then advance the turn we're going into round three it is red star in issue shares or buyback yeah yeah get locomotive it too right I'm gonna go too I sort of assumed you were in a pass when he only took two shares well so here's the thing don't go risky and bid three just hose me that could come back to bite you yeah that's what I mean I get end up paying three yeah that's specifically to hose you but I don't know that right laughs yeah no I'm that's why I've been to instead of the euro well one blocked out past suruc I cannot go anywhere out from Zurich I could come down to here come turn five but I'm two turns or three turns or two turns away as it were to be able to do that yeah so my other option is to either come down around this way to come down around this way and to actually work with Chris on that area big hopes but because all of this is impassable around that city over there the only way in is there and it comes down it you cannot get to that sin but the only entrance that so that is if you can't see at home see and that's what I was trying to write there it is impassable impassable impassable impassable if you took urbanize and you turn that to a thing you know I'm fully aware give him out all of the rainbow cities just interesting we have one entrance yep oh they do no no yeah this one's oh there's an edger but not yeah a non entrance entrance now you can track their camera so the question is where do I go right another option no see I keep wanting to come down and I can't do that well you could like it's a bright recognize then you can start going that way understood it's a little less efficient but I think because the same cube can't go to the same city so I can't do like one two three four I double back around so I can't do that would you like pork off this and go knowing that that is an option yes to get to a red city up there specifically there's no railroad there and there's no black going the other way right right so I'm I'm doing the reason I'm going through all of this right now before I bid is because I need to figure out what it is that's important to me whether it's I mean between these three so you currently bid three mm-hmm it sounds like four Wow well so now hold on oh oh can I be on the path later yeah and if you want you can use it one time right so I could say five now for instance right and then because I'd be totally willing to play five and angry bonus and then maybe sneak in a second right Nikki it's a it's a different design ethos for everything else but it's basically just here's your restrictions there's no crazy rules to it no it's just build along this certain pathway yeah don't deviate too much it doesn't have like all the weird stuff like Germany where there's there's too much in and out and then nothing like the south it's it's nice it's like I think it's a good step up oh it's a big step up I think this this map is I think this is a significant step up from the base map no absolutely I would argue this is a hard map not a moderate map by any stretch if you were to categorize them from you know easy mid and hard yeah this is this is definitely a hard map because of all the restrictions I think it made it we made it harder on ourselves are you having a couple of really high bidding routes yeah that was that was dumb yeah collectively no that's the mark med there's a lot say I think that with all the restrictions and everything on here and a little so I like the little rainbow so these with only one entrance as we pointed out yeah the thing that actually made it the hardest I think was the $4 per track yeah but it's normally just five you and five for sure and it's not going always far right right you go five first show you pay three bucks for a track or two bucks or track or whatever right it goes a lot further and that's ultimately you know at the end of the game at 14 tracks and I had 11 and the tracks are double points probably because there's no harder to build and that was with other tracks getting removed from I basically had to save up for the entire second half of the game to do those six track lays oh right over yeah yeah right right I mean wasn't but wasn't a bad investment but like but I screwed because I screwed myself over monetarily I had seven track that I do yeah you hampered your so you like if you're not building truck you're getting crushed yeah and that was it I couldn't do anything about my position yeah but that's because I put myself there that is true but I imagine now that we're all cognizant of that number one right of hey first off I don't know about you guys but until Chris pointed it out I didn't realize that those rallies only have salient business yeah right I I think that would have changed things because now all of a sudden doing that as an urbanized for a three build as a first turn that seems awfully good yeah because you you you know this one you can't really do anything on a wait until that opens so that's blocked off so then because I'm not sure it's worth it unless you're just soo rich because it's so much track and so much you know what I mean if you get it down to here yeah I mean it's that is the shortest path right so yeah that's tough but yeah opening is that that take advantage of these I think her I think so pretty strong yeah we were talking before the game all work is gonna have a cube every round you might want to get like it's easier to get into these first and then there's six entrances and is right and wanted to each of these yeah yeah I think we all collectively saw backwards yep and what about it I went forth in the first turn right and I was like these are great for two moves not so great for five yeah and I think I think we're still right on the money that getting first build in the first turn is really strong just wait for it in the wrong place yeah yeah right oh there you go and just it just theme in general I'm sitting here thinking there's just one thing that could have changed any of these rounds I would have at least tied that word right one I had seven dollars of the round round before last I could have bought back a sheriff I had one extra dollar right I could move one extra cube right somewhere where it's just yeah yeah always four bucks away four bucks away from being tied right there's a really good chance that one plus four buddy's really high on my top 50 still mm-hmm because of this change one little or you know the little thing here there or whatever different realize you're gonna set that up the first round maybe I would have gone over here and built them a one delivery first right and then built that second Yeah ones but also the like super obscure stuff and maybe we can motivate designers out there who have designed their games to make them either print and play available or stuff like that because the zombie apocalypse that's what happened with that one he made it available as a print and play after he saw our live stream in the basement of it way back when so some of the more obscure maps I'm hoping to be able to shine a light on and if they're good maps I imagine they are if they are then maybe we can we can help you know facilitate that in some small way so hey guys yeah it was just
