After Effects Tutorial - Track and Add Titles in Video in After Effects

this video is sponsored by story blocks video motion tracking is the process of tracking the movement of an object within a piece of footage once you have collected this track data from the selected point you can then apply it to another element or object the result of applying this data are that your element or object now matches the movement of your footage essentially you can composite something into a scene that was never there now that we have a basic concept of what it is now we need to ask the real important question what the heck I'm going to use this for for instance you can stabilize motion by utilizing tracking data add elements such as text or solid into a composition insert 3d objects into 2d footages apply effects or color grading techniques replace screens on TV computer and mobile devices and many other different things so in this After Effects tutorial we will learn how we can easily track a footage and add elements such as text onto it I am Nick Hill from the oceans and without any further ado let's get started if you have ever been in the need for a quick video clip for a b-roll After Effects template or motion backgrounds that story blocks video is for you I personally use story blocks for my youtube videos client projects and many other different stuff there are times when your creative needs are compromised due to low budget for example let's say I am shooting a short flim and my location is near Statue of Liberty and I want an aerial footage of Statue of Liberty and taking a drone shot would exceed my budget because drone shot are not that cheap that is when storey blocks video comes in and I can easily search for an aerial footage of the Statue of Liberty and use it in my video the 30 blocks is a subscription-based resource providing unlimited downloads of royalty free stock footage ease motion backgrounds and After Effects templates all videos a hundred percent royalty free and you can keep all the media forever new clips are added regularly so there is always something fresh to download make sure to check out story blogs video the link will be down in the description all right so here we are in after-effects and let's start with the tutorial so the first thing that we're gonna be doing is creating a new composition just like we always do let's call this main as this is gonna be your main comm 1920 by 1080 and 29.97 fps because my footage is of that IPS if you have a 60 FPS footage you can go with sixtieth wheel or 24 FPS as well to make things look more cinematic for the duration I'll go with 30 seconds and hit okay I'll go into the assets and drag and drop in the footage drag and drop in the footage that I want to track and then I can just add the 3d camera tracker to this and then it's going to start analyzing the background to create 3d points into the footage so that using those points we can create a 3d camera alright so the camera is solved and as you can see it has created some points onto our footage using which we can easily track you can easily create a 3d camera so do that what I like to do is I want to place my text somewhere on the top of this bridge so instead of selecting just one or two points I can just click and drag just like a lasso tool and create a circle so it's gonna track all this point in case if some point is not visible in some section of the clip other points can handle it handle that truck so after selecting it I'm gonna right click and create a new null and camera so now it's gonna create a new null and camera and as you can see nothing really changes but now if I go into my text tool and I'll you know type in some text so I'll use the same text as we went for the example so into the mountains also make this caps and that had controlled deep odors below make this Maltese right let's increase the size of this give me something like this big place just like so you don't need to worry about the size again you know and that any time change it so please them just like so - this is gonna be my title there we go and now if I turn them 3d you can see now it's gonna interact with the camera that we created so it's pretty cool right I'll move this way to the top so now I can select these two titles hit P and then I can adjust the position so I want them to be on the top of the bridge so yeah somewhere right there maybe a bit forward and a bit down and then I want the camera to go through the text so replace it just like so just a touch char's like that as you can see there we go there we have a very nice title placed into the 2d footage and it's looking absolutely amazing you can also turn on the motion blur which will make the things look a bit more you know natural and now the text is pretty lame at the woman so I can give it a really nice and simple animation so what I'm going to do is I'll select the mountain text go into its properties and add opacity let's bring this down to zero go into the range selector let's set this up to all the way up to hundred create a keyframe on the offset go back and say this - - 100 then go into the advanced properties and set the shape to ramp up and also I'll play around with the easy hi maybe set this to 50 so now we have something like that pretty cool but I like to add some randomness so what I can do is turn on the random order and now we have this very interesting-looking title animation maybe I'll set the easy high to zero and I'm going to do the same thing with our into the text so I'll just copy the animator so hit ctrl C to copy it move the time indicator at the beginning select the text and hit ctrl V to paste it so now we have a very cool looking animation and it is that simple to add now let's go ahead and add our second text so if I go into the main example you can see we have two text the second one is directed by James Carter whoever he is and as you can see here we also have some nice shadow on the water as well so we will be creating that as well so let's actually begin with this it's pretty simple all right so now what I'm going to do is let's select the mountains text maybe hit ctrl D to duplicate it and hit P to bring down the position properties push this back into the z space go a bit forward in time maybe somewhere around there let's try to figure out a nice position keep on pushing this okay so yeah that looks like a good position to be something like that let's give it the name shame started also I'll make this a bit smaller so something like this control deduplicated pull this up now call this directed by there we go maybe I'll make this takes a bit smaller just like that and just bring this a bit up so that is looking pretty good let's see how it looks and yep that is doing pretty good I'll go some around there and then bring them back by dragging the layers so we have a really simple animation just like so and now we can go ahead and add some nice shadow on the water all right so I'm gonna select the James Carter text actually let's select both of them with ctrl D to duplicate it pull this on the top let's see in the color so we can see them low properly and hit R to bring down the rotation properties and then we can rotate them so I'm gonna rotate them in the X rotation in the X yep in the X rotation in the X rotation is that is what I guess it's called pull this a bit down also select this one directed by this a bit like that let's see how it looks you have that looking that is looking pretty good then I can select these two texts and give them black color bring down the opacity a bit to around 10 maybe 12 let's go with 12 12 looks good I can change the blending mode so hit f4 and change the blending mode to soft light all right maybe I'll increase the opacity a bit just so that it's visible and then I can select them and add and then I can add some fast blood to this very minimum so I'll just zoom in a bit let's add a very minimal blur if you aren't too too person or something up let's copy this at ctrl-c ctrl-v to paste it up even increase its opacity a bit just like so and try to you know fix this I'll just move this a bit down and yet that is actually looking pretty nice as you can see but it's also on to now the text as you can see the shadow is also on the land and I don't want that so what I can do is I can just simply mask this so let's let the pen tool and I can draw a very rough mask from right here just like so and invert the mask so hit M and invert that up same I'm gonna do with this one as well we can hardly or barely see it but just to be on safe aside I'll just create a mask and in what that must side M and N word that up and yep there we go there we have our very interesting title animation or text animation you can call it so this is the same technique that I used on my second video as you can see right over here and and you can download this videos from story blocks absolutely free I'll provide the link down in the description to the project file you can download the project file use it you know and try to practice it maybe create something more interesting and more dynamic tracking animations so yeah that is a wrap for today guys I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and if you did then make sure to subscribe comment and like and I will see you guys in the next video till then take care thank you so much for watching I don't forget to stay raw stay creative at present we have a special discount going on my video hive template you can buy any of my professional templates from video hive at a flat discounted price of just $12 this offer will only be available till 15th of November make sure to check out my video I put folio Mean Machine link will be in the description [Music] [Music]
