Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
When I bought my pre-owned Honda, I was talking to the dealer guy and was telling him about Tesla and was mentioning how much I disliked dealerships. He was agreeing with me and told me he couldn't wait for Tesla to come and get rid of dealerships. He was pretty new at the dealership though so maybe he wasn't indoctrinated like the rest of them. His higher-up was much more of your standard car-salesman type.
This was in Michigan btw.
A lot of people talk about buying a Tesla cause it's electric, environmentally friendly, technologically superior, cool, etc. It's some of those things for me, but also that I'm not feeling ripped off by some slimy salesman looking out for their paycheque.
At our local Subaru dealer the salesman opened with "We don't haggle. The price you see is the best price we'll give you." Needless to say, we walked out with a Subaru.
You know it's gotten bad when honesty becomes a sales shtick and it works.
So if those are the laws then how exactly IS tesla able to sell online?
Dealerships do allow those that know what they are doing to get much better deals. This American Life had an episode on the dealerships and what goes on. Crazy to see the tactics these sales guys use to get you into one of their cars.
Finally someone made a video. Now i can spam this video in my linkedin so all other dealerships can see this shit. Thank you tesla for changing the auto game.
I watched this episode awhile ago, It amazes me how corrupt everything is. When I bought my tesla it was pretty straight forward, no haggling or hassling. Much better experience than my previous car buying experiences.
John Oliver should take a crack at this one.
Cost of car + profit of car for manufacturer + taxes = price, sounds good to me.
I don't need another company layer on top of it, that adds an extra cost. Especially when I need to haggle their profits down, so you know we both hate each other in the end.
