ACX Audition Tip: Win More Auditions with a GREAT Message

hey this is voices for learning where we help you grow as a voice actor i'm susan and in this video i'm going to give you an acx audition tip that will hopefully help you win more auditions if not get you to the top of a short list here we go so here we are in acx and let's say that i want to go ahead and audition for this title right here the portal complication so what i would do is just simply um you know download the audition script record it master it make sure it's perfect and it's excellent and then i would upload the audition here on this button once you go to this part where you actually get to upload your audition um there's a place for you to browse and you'll just choose the file from your computer to upload it but there's also this part right here which is really really really important called the message area and notice the parentheses around it say that it's optional i would say maybe like five years ago the message was optional but today 2021 oh my goodness with all of these voice actors competing for the same number of books you better put in a good message so what this video is going to show you is really just how to construct a really great message so um full disclosure i work i'm not only a voice actor but i also work for a studio called twin flame studio studios and one of my job is to um go through auditions and listen to them and create a short list for the author to choose their final narrator for their book and i have been seeing lots and lots and lots of auditions recently so for a book like this the portal compilation which is a series book and it's paying you know 200 to 400 per finished hour it's a five and a half hour book this book i can guarantee you is going to get a lot of auditions maybe upwards of even like 200 auditions so just from my perspective when i'm going through auditions and i'm culling through them and i'm curating them i can pretty much guarantee that about 50 out of that batch are going to be excellent and it's going to be very hard to determine who goes to the short list and who doesn't go to the short list one of the things that i use in my you know just ways of kind of like excluding people from that short list because at that point it really is just a process of elimination 50 excellent auditions how do i pick it's a process of elimination and one of those methods is is the message so i'm going to show you some examples of some messages that i've seen and honestly some messages that i've actually written as a voice actor when i just kind of didn't know any better so um i made it this kind of like word document um just to kind of show you what the author or whoever is curating the auditions will see with that message of course there's not going to be green lines i just use that to help you look but um it'll say basically message and some people will leave nothing you know they'll just put nothing so don't do that here's another example of a message that i've seen and honestly that i've kind of done myself because i just didn't know any better the message would be barb thanks for listening best susan okay so that really tells you nothing i mean it's it's nice it's fine it's pleasant but it doesn't give the author or whoever's curating the auditions any extra information any reason not to exclude you so this is okay but we can do much better i've also seen this type of message right here and i've written this type of message too so i'm just gonna be completely honest barb oh my gosh i love your book this is my life i was raised this way and your character jessica is just like me i would be so honored to narrate your book and i would do an amazing job other authors who work with me love me warm regards susan so i think we know like we don't don't do that that's just kind of obnoxious and it really doesn't give the author any reason to not exclude you also so here is really kind of like the best thing that you need to do and it just is professional it's perfect it um gives the author so much more than just i love your book i'm a narrator it's it shows the new it shows the author that you're professional that you know you are a person who can put a book together and probably given on time you know submit your files in a timely manner you know before the deadline that you're not going to give the author any problems and here's the message dear barb thank you for this opportunity sincerely susan audiobook narrator of 100 plus titles my website my email address my phone or text in case she wants to get a hold of me this way and my zoom id so this just basically says like hey i'm a professional i've done this before um i know what i'm doing you can trust me with your book no it doesn't say anything about my life or whatever but it gives the author a really good idea that the book is safe in my hands i'm not going to screw it up i'm not going to get emotional i'm just going to do it and just as a little bonus these zoom id's are really good thing to have i've closed more deals i think recently because i've been willing to zoom with different people authors whoever clients and you know just having them to be able to see me to talk to me to know me i mean we're selling our voices here if you can just talk to them and they can go wow okay i can put a face with this great voice you will close more deals so that's your bonus tip for this video i hope you use it so please utilize the message area in the acx audition area and any kind of message area period this is exactly what you need to have this is all you need everything that you need so
