we're gonna talk about accuracy here today from various different angles I build some of the most accurate rifle built anywhere by anybody and one of the reasons that they're accurate is because they're put together properly with precision and the fact that I have a lifetime even longer even greater number of years reloading and working up loads for rifles and they have building rifles I've been hand loading for 58 years and I've been building rifles for just roughly 50 years and a barrel has got to be properly headed up to an action this is true actions have got to be true to both faces lugs you got to be true chambers you got to be true to the centerline of the bore everything's all got to be done in a way that the finished rifle has built precision aliso it can repeat that barrel actions got to be fitted into the stock it's got to be properly vetted it can't be any movement I can't be any movement there can't be any strains any high spot or whatnot on the action somewhere that might interfere with accuracy and when a rifle was put together the screws that hold the barreled action into the stock they've got to be tight not brought down until they just start to Snug not brought down till you meet a little bit of resistance I get even a lot of factory rifles come come in my shop to have things done to the screws have never been never even been tightened the barrel axe has never been tightened down in the stock I build rifle for individuals this seems to be a guy thing almost immediately the guys got to take the barrel action out of the stock why why do you want to take that rifle out of stock that I that I've done everything that I do my rifle building to give you an accurate rifle and then not put the barreled action back properly into the stock I just recently had a rifle came into the shop that I built for somebody about ten years ago all right the guy contacted me a while back and said yeah you know it was the second holder of the rifle the rifle it hardly been used it wouldn't shoot you had problems with pressure and one things another wondered if I could work up a load and see what was wrong with the rifle and so forth well the rifle came into the shop on the first things that I did I put a wrench on the action screws the action screws are both loose by at least two turn and a half I turned them a half well you figure a turn and a half on the 28 thread screw that tells you how much played that there wasn't that barrel action up and down in the stock and I pulled the barreled action out of the out of the stock there's all kinds of Filth and dirt between the between the bedding and the barreled action I had to clean that all off and look everything over and put everything all back together it was vetted properly on the left here and anyway putting it all back together and and properly tighten down the screws and verbally this is one of the first things the rifle comes in the shop I have to do some work - let's just say that I need the glass better rifle and so forth maybe adjust the trigger or whatever the screws are never take the screws have always got to be tight and I'm talking about tight not not snug not just snug I'm talking about tape in other words they're tightened down relatively tight I don't do not use a torque wrench I don't I don't follow that particular thought philosophy I've got it I've got the built-in torque in my wrist in in my hand and then my strength I know when a screw is tight it's either tape or it's not quite tight or it's loose that's just all there is to it and some of these specifications that are given for screws and so forth you know specifications that are given the screw is hardly even just just barely snug well there's no way that that's going to hold the scope in a set of rings if it's just barely snug all these details have got to be attended to to have to have an accurate rifle rifle that came in the shop describing here that you know just just wouldn't shoot and had pressure issues were there one thing another well I've already told you why the rifle wouldn't shoot it couldn't possibly shoot under any sort of circumstances with any load by anybody regardless or whatever their ability was and with everything all all attended to and tightened down properly I look at the scope and the scope is not modeled properly the the Rings have been lapped the Rings have been left on the on the rifle on the basis and anyway the scope sets in there sets in there true it's got no bind to build E or anything but the problem is Devon wouldn't make any difference if it wasn't laughs because the scope has not mounted perpendicular on the rifle in other words the reticle isn't perpendicular the scope is cocked a reticle Scott well you can't expect to get accuracy if the reticle is cocked that means that when you put your foot rifle up your caning a rifle left or right it's one way or the other that you're canning the rifle so you can't the rifle in your mouth the scope counter also candidate that's not gonna work it's gonna work okay at a hundred yards as you get out and range now all of a sudden it's gonna create issues for you because of this this this can't you see it changes the impact for you as the range increases anyway that had to be taken care of by the way the screws were only only just barely just barely snug right down about like that just just a little when you fell a little resistance that's it that was it that's how the scope was monitor so one the scope hadn't slid in the Rings by the guy the Senate and the scope get battered somehow or another I neither Anderson smacked back against the Rings the the tube went against the Bell or against the the power chain system or whatever and maybe damage to the scope everything's got to be snug everything has got to be true and details have got to be attended to and I've described and you know in in in other in other videos what you have to do you know to to to reload ammunition proper load work up and one thing another I worked up a load for this rifle the guy said a wouldn't shoot but a couple inches are or worse all all the time it did that all the time well I just finished shooting the rifle and it happens to be a 300 Weatherby it you know it's a wonderfully accurate rifle i shot 0.5 volt free group with Barnes X 180 green triple shot bullets the rifle works as it should work because I had to go through this rifle and and check all the details and I don't miss any of these details the rifle comes in for any kind of work like that it gets done and now we're gonna talk about you know the rifle came in have pressure issues well there's the only one thing that that gives you pressure and that's a load that's too hot load is too hot the rifle was built in the shop chambered in their shop it's properly chambered everything is correct so you know right off the bat when somebody says there's some pressure well yeah you're reloading man you may say that you can is 86 greens but maybe this rifle he accepts 84 with a particular bullet of whatever powder well that's the fact alike because every rifle is different and some rifles you may be able to load a grain or two more than what it might be listed in a particular book that was for the rifle that they shot under the conditions that they shot in at the time but every rifle is different is it's just as different as every person is different and so you have to you have to pay attention to those sorts of details and these are things that you figure out like myself I figured out these things you know about a half of a lifetime or more ago that everything was all different and so you've got to pay attention to those details and you know most people really don't understand you know what what pressure is they see a primer that's just all reasonably reasonably flat a little flatter than what it was when it came out of the box well that's not a true measure that's not a true measure what what pressure was but if you've got it you've got cartridge cases that have gotten ejector mark on them maybe you've got pressure that's that's overpressure that's - higher pressure and I I don't know exactly what the what the guy was encountering and one thing another but all the loading that I did for his rifle I didn't encounter any sort of issues to do with pressure because I know I know how to properly load and work up a load to fit that individual rifle with the components that I'm using on that particular on that particular day and you know you've got to also understand that loads that are worked up for rifles you know in reasonably cool weather you have a rifle and ammunition this out in the sunshine it's pretty warm out the pressure is gonna go up a perfectly perfect good load on a day that you didn't have those conditions is not going to be it's probably not going to be proper on it's a very hot day things putting the sunshine for keep ammunition out of the sunshine when you're shooting and so forth to eliminate some problems these are just all general general accuracy issues should be pretty pretty common knowledge a lot of these things because some of these things have been talked about written up about and one thing another but written up about somebody that maybe halfway knows their part of a nose or nose or talked about by somebody such as myself that we do it every day you know what it is I know what we have to do day in and day out to take care of a particular situation and virtually every day when I'm working with these things I learned something I learned something every every day I find days that I that I that I don't learn learn anything those are those days are fine but they don't hold nearer of the interest for me is the days when I can actually learn something what I'm doing for the particular situation things things of various things have taught me something and what I'm doing throughout the day and you know I'm trying to pass some of this some of this information on so that we can become more more educated more educated hands on educated with these situations and we've got the computer age and so forth but the real nuts and bolts things were missing and that's what what what I'm trying to you know I'm a real nuts and bolts guy I have been my whole life and I want I want people to to get back more to those roots and spend less time less time monkeying on a computer so kind of kind of covers what what we need to cover here you
