B assalam alikum we are going to start with academic is reading and those who are gender training is candidates keep that in mind gender training reading section three is 100% same like academic reading right one thing second thing uh marking criteria is different for academic reading 30 correct answers you get Seven band in general training reading with 34 correct answers you get Seven band So for General training candidates it's a very good idea to solve some academic tests and when they go to General training they will find them easier okay all right uh before we start I would just like to tell you that by solving this test I will give you the guideline how to read the questions what to read first what are the type of questions and how to deal the type of questions and you have to be active and alert as well remember one thing you will be doing a lot of things you will read you will listen to me you will follow my instructions so sometimes my voice can be noise for you as you are trying to read so don't worry about it in actual exam there will be pin drop silence and when you practice at home again there will be silence for now I don't want you to do it independently now you have to do it dependently how to do it dependently if I'm reading the question you also read the question with me if I say go to second paragraph third line go to second paragraph follow third line and if I read something you have to follow it there on your handout okay so like this we will do this reading and there'll be 40 questions and those who've got the target of six band they only need 23 correct answers those who need five band they need 20 correct answers okay those who need seven band in Reading academic reading they need 30 correct answers so uh even you've got the margin right for example if your target is 6.5 so for 6.5 you need around 25 26 27 correct answers so you still have the margin of mistakes okay so don't be pessimistic don't be negative right when we reach section three things can be tough things can be beyond your understanding because the way we are going to read There are three reading levels the first level is I would not call it basic it's just like uh uh beginner level right second is intermediate level and the third section is advanced level so in section three those who understand advanced level English they will be able to understand otherwise many students they surrender surrender means okay right something like that but don't worry as I mentioned before academic reading or Reading part one will prepare you for part two and part two will prepare you you for part three so you need to if you pay more attention to part one you solve many part ones you are ready for part two and then you solve many part two is you're ready for part three it goes on like this so let's start with passage one what's the title cork if you read the title and you understand then go to the questions if you read the title and you don't understand then read the first of second sentence of the passage cork now please let's read first sentence cork the thick bark of the o tree is a remarkable material have you ever noticed on the bottles wine bottles or other bottles they have a cork it's a soft thing soft thing now they don't use it now they've got caps and all that but in the past they used to have a cork right a very soft substance and all that even today on wine bottles they use Cork and then they open like yeah like this okay and all that so this is cor and this comes from tree so we understand that they're going to talk about cork where does it come from and all that right after this you will come to the questions and remember you will not read all the passage to find answers there are 13 questions in part one 13 questions means there are 13 sentences in the passage which you have to read to find the answers right now it depends on you how to reach those 13 sentences reaching the right sentence is very very important if you are in a wrong paragraph and looking for an answer at the end you will write wrong answer you know why out of frustration you have to write something okay so you will write the wrong answer and all that uh okay let's start question number one we've got true false not given now remember and you should remember this for actual exam for each type of questions in is reading you should have a uh action plan you should have an action plan what is that action plan true false not given good first I will read the question find a clue word from the question go to the passage look for that clue word in the passage then I will read the sentence which is related to that I will match it with the question and then decide whether the answer is true false or not given and questions and answers are in order got it what is it action plan and you should know it where they are in order where they are are not in order in true false not given sometimes there is a word or a sentence which decides whether the answer is going to be true false or not given and by the way all the tricks are in the question so question number one please follow me uh cork oak oak is the tree actually cork oak has the thickest bar underline thest B of any living tree now listen do you know B one B is wof woof and the other B is the outer part of the tree you know Chila chilka exactly that is called bark now those who understand the coog has the thickest bark thickest bark M thickest bark Who who okay if you don't understand bark so you are helpless so you should know and as we are talking about a oak oak is a tree right like say b b chalk here in laar so Oak has the thickest bark of any living tree living tree means a tree that exists today many trees have died out so a tree that exists and the thickest B thickest mean out of all the trees oak tree has got the thickest bar now we go back can you see second paragraph and the cork Oak got it what was the clue word cork oak and usually when do when you do questions 1 to 7 answers will start coming from first paragraph or maximum second paragraph if the question type is where questions and answers are in order it'll start from first paragraph or maximum second paragraph and once you find one answer you read on and on and on you will find other answers for true false not given so and the Oak itself is an extraordinary tree its bar grows up to 20 cm in thickness now listen up to 20 cm in thickness have they compared it with other trees have they mentioned that it has got the thickest bark they only said the bark grows up to 20 cm in thickness insulating the tree like a coat wrapped around the trunk and branches and keeping the inside at constant 20 CRA all year round now come back exactly come back Oak has the thickest B no there is no mention they did not compare Co Oak I mean in simple words no comparison is given when because the question is comparative when they say the thickest bar they are comparing it for true false not given sometimes they give you comparative sentences as well so no comparison is given that that is why answer is not given so for not given you can write n g capital n capital G or you can write not given question number two scientists have developed a synthetic CA underlying synthetic now synthetic is like artificial it's not from the tree synthetic means they've created they've developed it scientists have developed a synthetic CA with the same cellular structure underline same cellular structure at natural CA now look here look here stist developed artificial CA and then there is the natural CA now both CA if they have same cellular structure the structure of the cell if you've studied biology you know that okay so so if the structure is same answer is true if the structure is different like yeah if synthetic cck has a different cellular structure natural one has a different one then the answer is false and if they don't tell us whether the structure is same or different answer is now cellular structure is your keyword cellular structure found it it's the second paragraph and please come to 1 2 3 4 5 6 seventh line developed most probably found it okay whenever you find the clue word in the pass message go back to the last full stop and then start reading from there understand you found the clue word now see where is the last full stop and then so I'm reading it from here developed most probably as a defense against forest fires the bark of o a Oak has a particular cellular structure with about 40 million cells per cubic cm that technology has never succeeded in replicating technology has never now what do they mean by technology for technology they have made this synthetic cork so it means synthetic cork has a different cellular structure and natural one has got a different one so the answer is FAL false I request you all to underline the sentences where I'm telling you the answer is so that when you go back home you can practice on your own underline or uh bracket question number one this sent question number two this sentence and all that question number three individual oak trees must be left for 25 years between the first and second harvest now look here look here look here what is Harvest Harvest is when they take out the bark and they make the right so they say individual trees oak trees must be left for 25 years like one time they harvest then there are there is a gap of 25 years and then they harvest again so if the Gap is of 25 years answer is true if it is more than that or less than that then the answer is false and if they don't tell us the number of years then the answer is not given so let's go back where is it in fourth paragraph now have you seen there's a jump so listen how will you reach fourth paragraph It's not that from a second paragraph you will read on and on and on and on and then you will realize okay now answer is here what will you do you will scan absolutely this is what we call scanning that you're looking for some specific information and especially the number when in the question there is a number you're looking for number so let's see where is the number uh yeah so I'm reading it from fourth line fourth paragraph fourth line uh after the full stop C production is above all an ex exercise for patient patients for from the pl PL uh planting of a cog sapling to the first harvest takes 25 years now look here from Plantation to first harvest it takes 2 now it's not from one Harvest to another Harvest try to understand not from one Harvest to another from Plantation to harvesting it takes 25 years and a gap of approximately a decade must separate Harvest from an individual tree decade decade means and over there they mentioned 25 years answer isal false very good and some of you will write true they will read this 25 years 25 years t i Canada okay so please be careful you understand right I mean if you don't understand the concepts your guesses will be wrong as well let's go on question number F four uh cork bark should be stripped in dry atmospheric condition underline dry what is the opposite of dry wet okay like we did yesterday wet weather dry weather and all that so if it is dry weather dry weather means Sunshine Sun sunny day and all that so let's go back it's the same paragraph and you're going to read it from fifth last line you even have to wait for the right kind of Summer's Day got it same paragraph everyone found it please help your neighbors if anyone doesn't find it please help them it's the title page fourth last fifth last line you even have to wait for the right kind of summers's day to harvest cck if the bark is stripped on a day when it is too cold or when the air is damp the tree will be damaged so if the air is damp damp means wet weather and he says here summers's Day summers's Day means dry weather summers's day and they link it and why dry weather because they've used the word damp damp means what wet weather when there is damp so he said at that time you can't do it let's read it again if the bark is stripped on a day when it is too cold or when the air is dim the tree will be damaged so let's go back question is bar should be stripped in dry atmospheric condition because they said if it is Dam you will damage the tree that is why answer is true clear right okay the only way words like only these type of words are very important in true false not given please underline only question number five only way to remove the bark from the oak tree is by hand now look here look here if they say you can only do it by hand answer is true if they say sometimes you can do it by hand otherwise you can use some tools to do that then the answer is false and if they don't tell us how to do it by hand or by tools then the answer is not given now let's go back the very next paragraph third uh okay now the second page we are on the second page and second line no mechanical means of stripping bar has been invented no mechanical means then what does it mean you've got to do it by hand no mechanical means let's read on so the job is done by teams of Highly skilled workers first they make vertical cuts down the Box using small sharp x's and xes are used by by hand then then liver it away in pieces as large as they can manage right so as they've mentioned here no mechanism means of stripping cckb has been invented so the job is done by teams of Highly skilled people if there is no mechanism of with with the Machinery they will do it by hand answer is true and by the way they've used the word small sharp xes now small sharp xes how how do you use the X with your hand so it's done by hand is this all clear okay I know that in that case okay guys now we go on the next question type is complete the notes below always remember whenever we have completion type of questions notes completion table completion flowchart completion diagram completion anywhere they use the word complete questions and answers are in the same order whether it is in part one part two or part three questions and answers are in the same order is this clear yes is this clear all right so choose one word only yeah no of you know when whenever you start with a new type of questions there is always going to be a different location first you need to find the answer to first question and then you go on and on and on it's not that where you finish true false not given now the answers will start no it's not that okay so for each type set of questions you have to find the location of first question okay uh choose one word only from the passage so you will not write any word on your own you will choose the word from the passage comparison of aluminium screw caps and B bottle stoppers so comparison of aluminium screw caps look for the word aluminium screw caps cork bottle stoppers and all that wow second last paragraph and you are lucky you know why all the answers are going to be in the last two paragraphs got it okay now we come back and we read the question so if they give any title the purpose of giving you the title is so that you reach that place where there is the answer okay advantages of aluminium screw caps and they have given three points what does that mean there are three advantages do not affect the dash of the bottle contents look here bottle content means what is inside the bottle so do not affect the dash of bottle contents please come back it's the second last paragraph I'm reading it from the tiniest concentrations found it the tiniest concentrations right side column fourth line Fifth Line everyone found it okay the tiniest concentrations as little as three or four parts to a trillion can spoil the taste of the product contained in the bottle see that and if you go back uh all right the result has been a gradual yet steady move first towards plastic Stoppers and more recently aluminium screw caps so please come back advantages of aluminium screw caps do not affect the dash of the bottle contents okay let's go back we read it again please come back the tiniest concentrations as little as three or four parts of a trillion can spoil the taste of the product contained in the bottle contained in the bottle product contained in the bottle means the contents of bottle right and then they say the result has been a gradual yet steady move first towards plastic Stoppers and more recently to aluminium Stoppers now aluminium screw caps they do not affect the taste of the content for Content they use the word product so the answer is taste tricky this is tricky one correct answer is taste and you will not write The Taste because the taste they are two words and they've mentioned one word only okay next R Dash to produce yeah now let's go on aluminium screw caps these substitutions are cheaper to manufacture what is the word for manufacture produce answer is so sometimes answer will be as simple as this otherwise it can be like question number six so the answer is cheaper are Dash to use good let's read on manufacturer and in the case of screw caps more convenient for the now what is the word for to use for the user so the answer is answer is convenient and you have to see this thing that okay if convenient is the answer what is the word uh what is the word for to use for to use they have written for the user unless you find this thing there are chances that you write the wrong answer some may write user as the answer and then they are double confident when they write the wrong answer okay yeah they say jahaz is waiting for me okay advantages of bottle stoppers advantages of bottle stoppers can you see the bottle stoppers it's the very next paragraph classic cork Stoppers all right so let's see now we read the question suit the dash of quality product suit the dash of quality products I'm reading it the classic Stoppers does stopper does have several advantages however firstly its traditional image is more in keeping with that of the type of high quality Goods image image well done its traditional image is more in keeping with that of the type of high quality goods come back to the question suit the image of quality products question number 10 please made from Dash material type of material made from Dash material let's read on please follow me secondly now this is the second advantage and we are doing this notes completion secondly and very importantly CA is a sustainable product that can be recycled without difficulty can be recycled without difficulty so the material is sustainable sustainable right for for material they use the word product sustainable product sustainable material made from a sustainable material that can be recycled and by the way if you write here made from a recy they use the word recycled yeah without difficulty okay next easily Dash good and what is the word for easily without difficulty and again I tell you you must know these type of things without difficulty that means easily and answer is recycled so have you noticed some questions and answers are very simple and in part one you will come across such type of things okay question number 12 forests aid aid means help so please be quiet and do it individually don't discuss anything with anybody do it quietly otherwise the whole environment is going to be polluted forests Aid something please come back uh moreover I'm reading it the last few lines moreover Forest are a resource which support local now what is the word for Aid support support and Aid they are the same words and the answer is biodiversity and when you write biodiversity be careful with the spelling in Reading if you have a spelling mistake it is just because of your own carelessness let's go on last Point Forest stop Dash happening stop Dash happening for stop they use the word prevent and prevent desertification got it and prevent desertification so for prevent they use the word stop answer is desertification all good yeah okay Alum may I have your attention please uh we are going to start with I's reading and today we are going to to go through one academic reading test uh we've got a variety of questions in this test and I have selected this test from Cambridge official guide to Isles and this is test number two from there Cambridge official guide to Isles test number two okay now we start with the very first question type whenever you start your reading test first of all you have to read the title of the passage if there is any subtitle read that as well now can you see the flavor of pleasure it means they are going to talk about either flavor or they will talk about pleasure flavor of pleasure means there will be for example if they say vanilla is the flavor of pleasure or any other flavor like that okay so flavor of pleasure and then the subtitle says when it comes to celebrating the flavor of food our mouth gets all the credit but in truth it is the nose that nose so whenever we talk about food items it's not the mouth it's the nose actually that nose they've written it is the nose that knows right that's why some people before eating they smell chicken tikka then they started e that okay so and some people even if there is smell they say doesn't [Laughter] matter yeah then he argued anyways flavor of pleasure then the other thing now we come to the questions questions are one to five complete the sentences below again I tell you whenever you guys practice section one should be done in 10 to 12 minutes because in section one mostly you get the questions where questions and answers are in order so once you find one answer you can easily do that and the first five questions usually they are in the very first part of the passage now again Focus how to read the questions how to read the questions and how to reach the passage where there is the answer if you reach the right part of the passage where there is the answer you will find the answer and if you are in the wrong part then you cannot manage your time okay uh no more than two words from the text okay question number one according to scientists underline scientists the term now remember whenever they use the word term terms are usually given in inverted commas right or for term they use the word known as it is called it is known as people call it so according to scientists the term Dash characterizes the most critical factor in appreciating flavor according to scientists and term now let's go back look for the word scientists first paragraph last line and then look for inverted commas found the answer how simple huh see that it is very simple and for term they use the word call I told you for term they say known as called as people commonly call as scientist name it as something like that so answer is retro nozal smell retr nozal smell and please make sure when you are doing is reading there should not be any spelling mistake there is no chance for spelling mistake because you have to copy and paste it but sometimes mashallah you are maharajas and Maharis so you can't write exactly the same word if there is slightly difference or you missed the last letter you will not get that okay okay so be careful Retron noal smell is the answer to question number one question number two SE now the Savory is underlined it is inverted comma so we can find it easily is a better known word for look here there is another word for Savory a similar word of savory they have given in the passage so please go back Savory is a better known word for have you found the word Savory okay let let's see it's the second paragraph now I'm going to read second paragraph please follow me certainly our mouths and tongues have taste Birds which are receptors for the five basic flavors sweet salty sour bitter and Umami or what is more commonly referred to as Savory what is referred to as Savory Umami try to understand that Umami theyve mentioned and Umami or what is commonly referred to as SEI so Umami is commonly referred as SEI so the answer is Umami see they mentioned comma and then they said and it means that's the next part of it it's not with them comma and Umami or what is most more commonly referred to as now what means Umami what means Umami it's a relative pronoun Umami is more commonly referred to as SEI clear okay question number three the tongues uh the tongue was originally developed now they talking about development of a tongue so let's see the tongue was originally developed to recognize the unpleasant Taste of Dash now originally means the purpose of making the tongue was to recognize the unpleasant Taste of something unpleasant Taste of of what let's go back same paragraph but our tongues are inaccurate instruments as far as flavor is concerned found it next they say they they means what tongues exactly very good they evolve to recognize only a few basic tests in order to quickly identify toxins in order to identify toxins now let's go back the question is the tongue was originally developed to recognize the unpleasant Taste of toxins and then they have mention which in nature are often quite bitter or acidly sour for unpleasant they have used the word bitter or acidly S clear so the answer is Toxin toxins yeah let's go on question number four human nasal cavities now like we've got tooth cavities nasal cavities human nasal cavities recognize now look the clue clue word is nasal cavities right nasal cavities recognize for recognize they might say identify nasal cavities recognize Dash much better than external ones much better means comparison let's go back nasal cavities third paragraph okay let's just read this uh the third paragraph okay all the complexity nuance and pleasure of flavor come from the sense of smell operating in the back of the nose now they use the word back of the nose it is there that a kind of alchemy occurs when the breathe up and out the passing whs of our chewed food unlike a Hound's skull with its extra long nose which evolved specifically to detect external smells our noses have evolved to detect internal sense so our noses have evolved to detect internal scents scent means smell so let's go back human nasal cavities for nasal cavities they use the word internal nose recognize what recognize what they use the word detect for recognize the word is detect and then they said external smells so the answer is smells much better than no no listen they said much better than external ones okay human nasal cavities recognize all right it's the opposite actually okay now listen unlike a Hound's skull Hound is what it's a dog hound you know it's a breed of a dog so unlike a Hound skull with its extra long nose which evolved specifically to detect external smell now dog's nose detects external smells our noses have evolved to detect in internal sense so our noses have evolved internal sense now what do they say come back to the question human nasal cavities recognize internal smell much better than external smell so the answer is internal sense very good sense or smell read it again and please mark it that answer of question number one is here answer of question number two is there when you go back home you can practice it question number five golden shepherd now clue word is Golden Shepherd golden shepherd used the word neurogastronomy to draw together a number of number of means answer will be plural a number of and for number of they can use the number they can use the word various many different and all that draw together a number of Dash related to the enjoyment of eating now let's go back can you see golden shepherd yes the very next paragraph okay I'm reading from there Yale University's golden shepherd begun to shed light on its workings Shepherd has come up with the term neurogastronomy to link the disciplines of Food Science link the disciplines of Food Science neur neurology psychology and anthropology now what are they they are the disciplines of food science so what are the disciplines disciplines are like science neurology psychology and anthropology now see which word is plural disciplin disciplines exactly and for number of they've mentioned this science neurology psychology and anthropology for number of they use this and all these are actually disciplines okay so the answer is going to be number of of disciplines you cannot write neurology and all that because there have four five words all these are disciplines sorry listen listen listen you're not going to write anything else you will just write disciplines because number of is already written in the question so your answer is disciplines for example if I say for example if I say uh I study biochemistry physics maths on the other hand it's mentioned number of subjects right so if I say I study some subjects and these subjects are biochemistry physics and math and there they have mentioned uh the question in the question they mention a number of Dash so a number of subjects because otherwise I cannot write a number of biochemistry physic that's not correct grammatically so the answer is uh going to be here disciplines okay all right okay now we've got questions 6 to9 complete the notes below choose no more than two words again we've got notes completion no more than two words from the text so face recognition first your clue word is face recognition they say patterns of dark and light are used to put together a dash now just try to focus face the recognition is your clue word and they say patterns of dark and light are used to put together put together means jorda assemble to combine something put together a dash now let's go back we look for face recognition very next paragraph exactly so I'm reading it in many ways this one right okay let's read it in many ways he is discovering that smell is rather like face recognition that is our clue word now just just focus this visual system detects patterns of light and dark and building on experience the brain creates a spatial map brain creates now the word creates come back they have used the word put together put together is the synonym of creates right to put together a special map did they use singular or plural singular spatial map just write copy paste it exactly 100% spatial map question number seven the same thing goes on uh then they say facial recognition is key to our enjoyment of Dash facial recognition is key to our enjoyment of Dash come back to same thing facial recognition all right this is a little different please come to next paragraph very next paragraph IND exactly just let's see facial recognition is our key to our enjoyment we'll find the word enjoyment and other uh come to next paragraph This ability to appreciate specific Aromas found it uh turns out to be Central to the pleasure we get from food much as our ability to recognize individuals is Central to the pleasure of social life pleasure of social life means enjoyment of social life okay now in this case over here in this book questions and answers are not in order uh six and seven they are in order now we are going to deal smell so we will first find smell so me maybe we have to go back to the passage but afterwards they will be in order smell yeah it's it's above let's read the question question number eight smell receptors recognize the dash in food receptors recognize something in the food some part of food okay so let's go back can you find the word receptors go to previous paragraph previous paragraph almost in the middle can you see in the same way title page third last paragraph in the middle it's written in the same way okay now let's read from there in the same way we use patterns and uh ratios to detect both new and familiar flavors as we eat specialized receptors now be careful answer is here specialized receptors in the back of the nose detect the air molecule in our meal air molecule in our meals exactly receptors recognize what is the word for recognize detect exactly recognize and detect they are similar words and then they said the air molecules now by the way they've mentioned no more than two words if you write the air molecules your answer will be wrong and make it a habit in I listening and I reading never WR article a n the Su these are called articles so never write articles so the answer is air molecules as they have mentioned in plural so you can write plural as well question number nine the brain identifies certain Dash certain means answer can be singular or plural brain identifies we go back same paragraph look for the word brain good okay let's just read from there for uh from signals found it from signals sent by The receptors the brain understands smell as complex special patterns using these these means complex special patterns as well as input from other senses it what do they mean by it yeah it means bra brain exactly so just read it with brain brain constructs the idea of specific FL flavors brain constructs the idea of specific flavors so brain identifies identifies is construct and certain isic specific well done now just see specific and certain they are synonyms identifies and constructs they are synonym so the answer is flavors now why not specific flavors certain because certain is already there very good for specific so we'll just write flavors uh and they have used American spelling it's a good idea to copy paste it flavor in American spelling you should write American spelling as well but even by mistake if you write British spelling your answer will be correct there's no problem okay okay questions 10 to 13 see if you do part one like this systematically you'll be very happy excited and part two and three will be easy for you answer the questions below this is called short answer questions and by the way over here as well questions and answers are in order Okay so we've got this question 10 to 13 answer the questions below choose no more than two words how to do it number one read the question and find the clue word number two scan the clue word in the passage and number three read that part of the passage again read the question find the answer and write the answer in what form do does the brain store now see that brain has the memory and what form of memory in what form does the Brain Store odor objects and can you see odor objects are in inverted commas so you can easily find oor objects found it come to the second page of the passage odor objects come on find it find it odor objects all right okay that's good odor objects you know that for example you know you look at the socks someone's socks okay and you know that kind of smell it is going to produce okay you will never go near that so brain stores that as well brain knows the difference between the odor of the socks and other things anyways let's see odor we got it here uh in this uh first second third fourth line let's read it from the full stop uh smell stimuli found it in fourth line after full stop whenever you find the clue word read that sentence from the last Full Stop sometimes last Full Stop some if you don't understand then go back one sentence more so smell stimuli from what Shepherd terms odor objects stored as memories in what form in what form they stored stored as memories so they store it as memories understand in what form does the brain stored they mentioned stored as memories right in what form memories clear and every time discuss the question and say okay question is in what form does the Brain Store what form stored as memory as memory means the form so just tell yourself that this is the thing and you'll be fine with it answer is memories clear and they have mentioned plural word so don't make a mistake of writing it singular just write memories that's it okay question number 11 when seeing was difficult what did we use our sense of smell to find when seeing was difficult means in the darkness so in the darkness or when seeing was difficult what did we use our sense of smell it means when we were unable to see we used our sense of smell to find something to find what let's go on to same paragraph go back in the history found it yes okay let's read it together go back in the in history and this was part of our survival uh repertoire like most animals we drew on our sense of smell when visual information was scars try to understand visual information was scars and for that they use the word seeing was difficult seeing was difficult and visual information was scars what did we do uh on our sense of smell when visual information was scars comma to single out pre single out means to find single out means to find so single out pray means answer is pre and this prey means shikar p r e y one is p r a y prey Dua now if you write in your answer p a y pray the right answer will be wrong now excuse me this is for you miss it's for you like you say got it so just you have to copy paste it whatever the word is okay not like this so p r y pre is the right answer okay now let's go on question number 12 which food item illustrates now food item answer is food item it can be Burger pizza and all that which food item illustrates how flavor and positive emotions are linked a food item Illustrated that uh FL flavor and positive emotions like if you go with someone and you drink vanilla coffee next time you drink vanilla coffee you will miss that person or next time you see that person you will miss vanilla coffee right observation experience which food item illustrates how flavor and positive emotions are linked now answer is food item commonly food item go on look for that food item emotions okay you reach there second last paragraph third last line but the answer is not lemon can anyone say can anyone say thison you can say yeah me too okay me too so consider the response to the sharpness of a lemon and compare that with the face that is welcoming the smooth Wonder of chocolate sharpness of lemon okay so then face that is welcoming the smooth Wonder of chocolate so actually the question is which food item illustrates how flavor and positive emotions now try to understand that sharpness is not positive emotion they said here consider the the response to the sharpness of a lemon and compare that with the face that is welcoming now welcoming face is positive emotion and the answer is chocolate okay let's go on we've got one more question efficient question number 13 what could be controlled in the future and remember if there is any question related to Future usually answers are in the end of the passage and last paragraph what could be controlled in the future through flavor manipulation what could be controlled last paragraph third last line on the horizon found it okay on the horizon we have the positive application of neurogastronomy manipulating flavor two curb two curve means two Cur control to curve means to control our appetites our appetites so what will be the answer appetites because it's no more than one word one word only so only you will write appetites don't write our appetites is this clear you should repeat all these things and again I say this is Cambridge official guide to is uh reading test number two and we solved questions 10 to13 right thank you assalam alikum now we start uh we've got reading passage and whenever you start reading passage start it happily excitedly okay yes because when you start it excitedly your energy level will be good I know there are some questions that can drain your brain right but you should see how to deal with them and all that so in today's session we will solve one complete test 40 out of 40 questions and we will see how to deal with them in actual exam all right uh the first thing is you need to read and understand the question the second thing is question will take you to the passage where there is the answer and I'll tell you how I mean question will be the navigation guide it'll take you to the part of the passage paragraph sentence where there is the answer and then there are certain tricks I will tell you type a questions type B questions where questions and answers are in order where they are not in order and all that so be attentive and you have to repeat this test at home after me with all 40 questions okay now title bats to the rescue bats you know bats you might be thinking it's the cricket bat now it's the other one what do we call bat in uru Cham Punjabi Cham chami okay Cham chii in Punjabi and then they say how Madagascar's beds are helping to save the rainforest bats are helping to save the rainforest now it means they will talk about the benefits of bats they will talk about the advantages benefits of bats and how bats are rescuing the rainforest in Madagascar have you seen any documentary about rainforest or anything yeah otherwise just imagine a forest where it rains a lot full of water and all that okay your imagination sometimes students say we cannot concentrate it's difficult to concentrate I reading so for them it is a good idea to visualize whatever you read and you know the readers who read books they always visualize whenever you read something you visualize so if you visualize you will understand better but for visualization it is important to understand what you read that's the main problem many students can read English but what they read they don't understand right then they say yeah then they read again then they focus so please remember one thing there are three type of Words which can help you understand the sentences number one verbs because verb is an action word so verb will tell you what action is going on in the sentence second is noun and nouns are common nouns proper nouns proper nouns you know very well it can be the name of a place person thing and all that and common nouns usually you know but if there is anything new they Define that as well and the third one is adjective so if you only focus and understand verbs nouns and adjectives you can understand 70% of the passage okay and by the way you don't need to understand 100% passage because you will not read 100% passage you will only read if it is part one you will read 13 points or 13 sentences in the passage and you will be able to find the answer now total sentences can be 100 50 sentences 80 90 sentences but you are going to read only 13 sentences because there are 13 questions so let's start after reading the title and the subtitle and switching on your imagination you're going to come to this question questions 1 to six and the question type is true false not given now this is very tricky for many students and true false not given May appear in part one part two part three and there are only three parts in is reading okay so don't say part four okay so I will not be very fast today I'll go on and you have to be with me we will go along together we'll get along together now in true false not given there is a word or a phrase which is going to decide whether the answer is true false or not given the first thing is when you read the sentence you have to find two things number one you have to find a clue word number two you have to find the word or a phrase which is going to decide whether the answer is going to be true false or not given okay so let's see question number one many maragusan forests are being destroyed underline many many maragusan forests are being destroyed by attacks from insects now listen if many forests are being destroyed by attacks from insects answer is true if not insects there is some other species of animals not insects and many maragusan forests are being destroyed by them then it is false and if many maragusan forests are being destroyed by human activity not by insects even then the answer is false and if they don't tell us how many madagascan forests are being destroyed by insects by Human by any other animals they don't mention that then the answer is not given got it so whenever you read the question you're going to read it like that now let's go on maragusan forests and uh by the way true false not given is type A question type a means questions and answers are are in order in a sequence and usually when they give you 1 to six questions one to five sentence completion true false. given usually start searching the answer from the first paragraph okay now let's go to first paragraph can you see maragas and Forest second line this is what we call location what do we call it location of the answer in the passage so if you reach the right location after reading one to two sentences you will find the answer if you are at the wrong location this is how I reading goes out of your control then you read another paragraph then you read another passage another line and at the end you guess and you go on okay now we are clear we are going to look for how many madagascan forests are being destroyed and see that I still remember the question you know how because I imagined I imagined madagascan Forest I imagined insects I imagined destruction so you're imagine because when you do is reading there'll be pin drop silence in examination room so you can just do it on your own right now let's read second line maragas forests are being converted to agricultural ran at a rate of 1% every year much of this destruction much of means many much of this destruction is fueled by the cultivation of the country's main staple C crop and that is rice and a key reason for this destruction is that insect pests are destroying vast quantities uh vast quantities of what is grown by local subsistence so and a key reason for this destruction who is destroying it in no let's come to third sentence much of this D destruction is fueled by the cultivation of country's main staple crop rice now how are they destroying because they want to grow rice so they are cutting the forest and they are growing rice over there they said much of this destruction is fueled by much of is fueled by cultivation now what is what is insect let's read it and a key reason for this destruction is that insect pests insect pests are destroying vast quantities of what is grown by local subsistence Farmers now insect pest what is pest it's the medicine that kills pesticide Pest and pesticides so it's not the insects it's the farmers who are chopping down the Madagascar forest for the purpose of cultivating rice okay so what is the answer many mesan forests are being destroyed by attacks from insects no they use the word insect pest but they are are being destroyed by human activity and that is cultivation for Rise hence the answer is false right just underline that sentence question write there question number one when you go back home practice read again even read 10 times unless a voice comes from your inside AA you know sometimes when the power fails and after some time after 1 to two hours the power restores some people Shout cheerfully shuk something like and some people abuse okay when the power fails they abuse when it restores they abuse but anyways so you you're not going to abuse you find the answer and you abuse in the exam oh the the Tess something like that question number two loss of habitat now underline loss of habitat habitat means place to live okay for animals where they live that is their habitat loss of habitat has badly effective insectivorous bats okay insectivorous bats are the bats that eat insects loss of habitat has badly affected insectivorous bats in Madagascar now listen loss of habitat has badly affected the bats loss of habitat means now bats don't have place to live and that has actually affected insectivorous bats in Madagascar insectivorous means bats that eat different type of insects now we go back exactly third last line okay see that now questions and answers are in sequence third last line the result is devastating habitat clue word is habitat and the other one the result is devastating habitat and biodiversity loss on the island but not all species are are suffering okay let's read on in fact some of the islands insectivorous beds are currently thriving thriving means they are struggling to exist and this has important implications for farmers and conservationists alike so the bats are they suffering from it no they are not suffering from it come back to the questions loss of habitat has badly affected insectivorous bats has it affected insectivorous bats no it is not please come back let's read again some of the islands insectivorous beds are currently thriving currently thriving means they are still living happily and it has not affected them currently thriving means they are not being affected so question number two loss of habitat has badly affected no they are currently thriving it's the opposite hence the answer is false false let's go on question number three Ricardo Roa now what is this clue word Ricardo Roa names are the best clue words sometimes numbers are the best clue words so Ricardo roacha has carried out studies of BS in different parts of the world just underlining different parts of the world that's it now look here if he's done the search in one city one part of the world answer will be false if they say he's done this study in Asia Europe America and Australia these are different parts of the word then the answer will be true and if they don't tell us they tell us about his study but they don't tell us whether it was in different parts of the world or same part then it will be not given Now look for Ricardo roacha wow see that how systematically it's going on so Ricardo Roa he's passionate I'm reading second paragraph first line he's passionate about conservation and bats more specifically he's interested in how bats are responding to human activity and deforestration in particular roa's new study now be active answer is in this sentence roa's new study shows that several species of BS are giving Madagascar's rice Farmers a vital pest controls service by feasting on Plague of insects now have they mentioned anything that this study is related to one area or different areas of the word no so the answer is not given why not given because different parts of the word has not been mentioned clear again I'm saying underline the line the sentence where there is the answer right question number down there and then you can practice let's go on question number four habitat modification habitat modification means change in place of living habitat modification has resulted in indigenous bats in Madagascar becoming useful to Farmers now habitat modification what has it done indigenous bats mean the beds that belong to that area all right yeah so habitat modif ification has resulted in indigenous bats in Madagascar becoming useful now listen if due to Habitat modification bats are becoming useful to Farmers answer is true if despite habitat modification bats are not useful then it is false and if they don't tell us whether they are useful or useless then not given so habitat modification look for had uh modification okay okay all right okay let's just focus this thing second paragraph please come to the second paragraph second paragraph and we read it from third line roa's new study shows that several species of BS are giving Madagascar's rice farmer a vital pest control service now what is bestest control service bats are eating the insects or pests BS are eating the pest so what is it just read it again roa's new study shows that several species of bats are giving madagasca rice Farmers a vital Pest Control service by feasting on Plague of insects and this he believes can ease the financial pressure on Farmers to turn Forest into field now we are just concerned about habitat modification resulted in indigenous bats Madagascar becoming useful to Farmers so can you see anything related to Habitat modification let's go on to Fourth paragraph okay uh fourth paragraph which line yeah we've got habitat modification absolutely let's read it from the beginning co-leading and international team of scientists roacha found that several species of indigenous beds are taking advantage of habitat modification to hunt insects swarming above the country's rise field absolutely so the answer is true exactly so the clue word was habitat modification result in indigenous vs of Maricar becoming useful to Farmer now by the way what is the phrase for becoming useful to Farmer read it read it hunt insects swarming above the country's rice fields so when they are eating insects they are becoming useful to Farmers because Farmers want these insects to be eaten or controlled and all that okay so the answer is true please come back to question number five malacy Mouse eared bat it's the name of the bat so the clue word is malacy mouse eared bat is more common than other indigenous bad species in Madagascar now listen if me if malacy Mouse ear bad is more common than other ones answer is true try to understand listen now listen whenever in true false not given they use the word then t h a n then then means comparison they compare two things so if like they say me Legacy Mouse ear bear is more common is if this mouse eared bear is more common then the other one answer is true if the other one is more common than the mouse eared answer is false and if they don't tell us which one is more common or less common then it is not given so whenever they give you comparative sentence in true false not given this is what you guys need to check now let's go back back it's the same fourth paragraph I'm going to read it from third line they include malacy Mouse eared B mjor long fingered bat the malacy white bellied free tailed bat and Peter's wrinkle lipped bat now have they given us any comparison that which one is more common or less common hence the answer is not given got it so whenever they use comparatives then as compared to this that then you have to check English please sir he can can tell uh it is also possible but as I mentioned in true false not given questions and answers are going to be in the order so you will just go on like this okay uh all right let's go on question number six bats May feed on Patty what is Patty Rice Field yeah the the Dan what we call it bats May feed on Parry swarming caterpillars now it means bats can eat par swarming caterpillars and grass web worms now if they can eat listen listen when they give two and if they say well beds can easily eat par swarming C pillars but they don't like eating grass web worms if they give two things one they like to eat second they don't answer will be false right if they eat both answer will be true and if they don't like both or or if they don't mention whether they like or they feed or not then it is not given now the clue word is par forming caterpillar caterpillar and grass web worms so very good let's read second last paragraph of this page uh these winner species are providing a valuable free service to Madagascar as biological pest suppressors says roacha we found that six species of bat are praying on Rice pests including the py swarming caterpillar and grass web verb so they are included hence the answer is true got it and if they mentioned one not the other one then it could be false good uh it depends right if the first question type is type A then start from there otherwise start from type A Whenever Wherever there is type A okay guys questions 7 to 13 complete the table below choose one word only from the passage for each answer now table completion questions and answers are going to be in order usually part one is the a part where we have two main type of questions true false not given and sentence completion and both question types are type A type a means questions and answers are in order okay now let's read the question the study carried out by roacha or Rocka or whatever okay listen never care about your pronunciation in is reading because you are reading to yourself okay and and one more thing always read in your heart no lipsing you cannot read like this the study carried out by ro team aim okay not like this you will read like this H yeah you will read like this means you will not produce any noise because even Whispering is not allowed right yeah some students told me they were whispering and the invigilator came and said sh yeah all right okay let's go on the study carried out by roa's team now aim there is no question but can you guys see there is the word Rano mafa National Park underline that because this can help you Rano mafana National Park now method let's read the question ultrasonic recording Now read question number seven DNA what's the clue word wow DNA analysis of B Dash look it's going to be something related to bat it can be the part of bat's body or it can be something related to bat DNA analysis of BS for example DNA analysis of bat's hair DNA analysis of bat's eyes or anything like that so let's go back DNA is the clue word second page first paragraph you will find DNA there and it is also possible that you find DNA on a number of different locations okay so then you need to check what is the cont context of DNA now second page first paragraph I'm going to read the last sentence they next used DNA barcoding techniques to analyze drop Lings collected from bats drop lings collected from BS means BS drop Lings yeah so the answer is dropping yeah dropping sorry dropping collected from bats that means bats dropping okay for example food collected from animals animals food right so the answer is droppings and one more thing whenever you have to write a word from the passage please copy it 100% for example droppings plural just write droppings don't try to temper the word whatever the word is write the word as it is okay let's go on next is findings in findings you can see the word located on hills and then can you see the word question number eight please come to question number eight findings eight pests of rice Dash sugar cane nuts and fruit what's the clue word sugar cane nuts fruit so please look for sugar cane nuts fruit and the fourth word is going to be your answer sugar cane nuts fruit sugar cane nuts fruit absolutely second paragraph second last line all of you please follow second paragraph second last line there you can see these words so I'm going to read it from fourth last line whenever you find the word find the last full stop and start from there while the findings indicated found it okay while the findings indicated that Rice farming benefits most from the bats the scientists also found indications that the bats were consuming pasts of other crops including the black twig borderer which infests coffee plants sugar can carda the uh meria nut border and the so word Tabby that is pest of citrus fruit so which word is missing yeah the word which is missing is coffee plants and how many words are we supposed to write one word now will we write coffee or will we write plants coffee why because they mentioned the word sugar cane nuts and fruit okay sugar cane nuts and fruit now they mentioned here uh which infest coffee plants sugar cane that is already mentioned and then for nut they use that technical word makadamia and sober Tabby a pest of citrus fruit so sober Tabby is a fruit okay so correct answer is only and only coffee now instead of coffee don't write Cafe okay because I like Cafe I will write Cafe sorry it doesn't matter it doesn't matter listen listen just focus the word rice sugar cane nuts and fruit so when you are not writing Technical terminologies and you're supposed to write one word I read this again second last line please follow me black twig border which infests coffee plants okay then sugar cane card that is for sugar cane uh mechademia nut borer that is for nut and then and the sober Tabby a pest of citrus fruit that is for fruit so fruit is mentioned sugar cane is mentioned nut is mentioned coffee is missing hence coffee is your answer clear all right let's go on question number nine please prevent now these are the findings and answers are in sequence prevent the spread of disease by eating Dash and black flies so answer will come with black flies they eat black flies and Dash look for black flies Okay black flies and you can see it's third last paragraph Yes third last paragraph everyone found it okay so I'm just going to read it from uh second line associated with spreading disease disease is mentioned here let's go on Roa and his team found evidence that malacy bats feed not not just on crop pest but also on mosquitoes carriers carriers of malaria Rift Valley fever virus and elephant toises as well as black flies now with black flies what is the other word they have mentioned mosquitoes so the correct answer is going to be mosquito singular or plural yes as they mentioned in the passage and by the way with end the other word black flies is plural so you should write plural mosquitoes and be careful with the spelling when you copy see you found the answer and because of careless spelling mistake it's wrong what a Pity and one wrong answer will decrease your band score from 7 to 6.5 from 8 to 7.5 be careful let's go on local attitudes to bats are mixed they provide food rich in now listen listen listen what do they mean by they no they means bat listen they say local attitudes to bats are mixed they they means bats provide food what does it mean some people eat bats see that's what people believe this came okay I'll not say anything about it leave it so they provide food now listen bats provide food and that food is rich in something now imagine bat is meat so meat provides absolutely that is the answer go back and find it second last second last paragraph Roa points out that the relationship is complicated when food is scars bats become a crucial source of protein for local people what does it mean local people eat bats with tomato ketchup all right you say you're eating a sandwich someone asks you what sandwich are you eating bat sandwich all right barbecue which barbecue bat barbecue okay what is the this this soup about bad soup all right okay I'm feeling bad so the answer is protein source of protein for local people and this protein comes from bats This Is How They believe this covid-19 started yeah anyway let's go on question number 11 the buildings where they Roost they means absolutely and you should be clear about this thing whenever they use the word they them this you should be clear about that the buildings where they Roost become what do they become what do those buildings become let's go back same
