all right folks so here's the scenario I got no AC I came out my fan was blowing but the compressor inside was not working okay so I started freaking out thinking that maybe I had a solder joint that was bad or something but I touched both lines and they were cold they were not hot and so after a little YouTube and I figured out that it probably is the capacitor that was bad right but the problem was I couldn't figure out on my multimeter how to test it like none of these videos said what setting to put your multimeter on so I'm like well I called my buddy Derek he was an HVAC Tech we did a little FaceTime he walked me through the scenario I tested it it was bad the next scenario was that this is only two years old all right it was under warranty but when I contacted the company about warranty well the guy that installed it had moved out of state of course and then the company said oh well you can only have a licensed technician install that gave me a couple companies that actually turned out they were out of business too and I'm not paying somebody 150 to 200 to come and change out this part that only cost me twenty dollars I'm just not doing it it's one of those things I called a licensed HVAC Tech I facetimed with them he walked me through the test and the repair is super easy you get this cover off right here it's just like little 5 16 sheet metal screws yeah I would have used my impact on these but guess what around the corner right here I can't put it in there so pull that little guy this is going to give us access here what I got is a little bit fatter than that but it's the same thing so we'll come up here the disconnect we'll pop that bad boy right out capacitors hold a little bit of a charge okay so before you touch this you want to just get your screwdriver in there an insulated screwdriver and you wanna make sure there's no charge to that thing when it comes to all these wires and stuff ain't my thing I didn't want to put something back in wrong so I took a picture makes it easy pop these bad boys off of here sometimes they'll come off easy sometimes they don't so now we've got all these out of the way here we'll just get all those back up out of our way and that way we can test this capacitor right here so on my particular fluke beater so you come all the way here to this little sign this is I guess the universal sign for capacitance and you can see that your red lead is going to go into here and you get this little YF right there actual on the capacitor itself there is going to be a c for common an F for fan and an H for and a Herm an H for Herm okay so if we've got the black on the common and then we've got the red on the fan we get 4.89 fan is supposed to be around five if we go back here to the other it is dead and this is supposed to be reading 40. you get down to this one right here and you go black on the C right on the fan 4.98 and if we switch it over to the Herm bad boy is at 40. okay where the other one was at zero so to get this strap out of here was actually a quarter inch not the 5 16 that I've been using there we go this ain't gonna work for us right it'll work for that little skinny bitty we're gonna reconfigure pulled out some old pipe strap here we're gonna make this work okay that's gonna totally work out for us that'll hold that right there and we'll just do two of those and we'll be good we can get small holes okay hey we got that second one we just got a clip a little more off of there we did that right so we got the C there fan there arm there this is the way that it went in plenty of space in here as well to use the same holes I'd like to think all right we're going to try to do this a little differently here oh yeah there we go an outlet about boy gonna be snug like a bug snug like a bug that thing ain't going nowhere right here it's bad boys gonna go right here and then there we go everything's popped down in place all right moment of truth we will pop that disconnect back in get that hooked up that one right there there we go we're gonna go turn this bad boy on and instantly our line down here started getting freezing cold we are back in the business our compressor is a running all right folks so no way shape or form do I want to take away from HVAC do I want to become an HVAC guy but here's the scenario in my own home I'm also not going to pay 150 to 200 because that's what people wanted to come out and do this job that literally takes like five minutes man I mean it took a little bit more since I had to do a little retro fitting but I got it hooked up it's back up it's running you know you just gotta remember to go to that capacitance setting right that's the scenario the biggest thing I wanted to shoot with this video and let everybody know is that when you're testing the capacitor like that one you've got to discharge it right you got to make sure that there is no electricity stored up in there and then you have to go to the capacitance setting that's the one thing I couldn't find my buddy hooked me up helped me out big shout out to Derek thank you very much Mama's happy Brian's happy I really hope you folks are enjoying the videos please subscribe click the like button we'd love to have you keep coming back thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
