[Music] he's got an incident referral of a dog in the Midlands area are you able to accept her new friendly yeah you just want a bit of loving didn't you it could be a skull from horrible oh sausage right now there are dogs that need help we don't get many toy Yorkies stuck in TV cabinets now and there are heroes who are dedicated to saving them I don't want to leave any animal in there why would you allow those dogs to look like that transforming their lives it sounds like she's in a lot of distress the nurse in me wanted to make him better she just can't believe how lucky she is finding them forever homes I feel like a lucky boy she deserves after what she's been through he's my guardian angel anyway and giving our four-legged best friend a second chance makes it all worthwhile him giving them that little Ray of Hope they are the dog Rescuers this is the way I do this job [Music] welcome to the dog Rescuers in this brand new series we've got more Riverton rescues with all your favorite inspectors as well as loads of fantastic dogs like Kane and Kaya here that's it you've parked up with exactly the right place that's not all there's a new addition to the team Angelica Bell on today's show we salute those people going about extra mile to help dogs in need from helping a homeless man and his four-legged friend to turn in Detective to rescue these two it's in finding didn't you coming up caught on camera being abused by her owner inspector Anthony joins rushes to the rescue there's no way I'm leaving anything In Harm's Way to be buttered like that again inspector Anthony polford steps in to help a homeless man's best friend with a nasty neck wound all right buddy yeah tonight and I'm finding out all about therapy dogs as I join rescued Rolo on his Hospital rounds [Music] on merseyside inspector Anthony joins is working on a disturbing case of a dog that was physically abused by her owner in public I've spent the last week or so Gathering evidence on it on a job that came in for members of the public that basically had witnessed a man beating his dog up in the street I managed to make my way to the location and it was all over there was no witnesses around I managed to go out and get hold of some CCTV from the local shop it doesn't make for pretty viewing the CCTV also revealed the incident that led to the beating he's been in the street with two dogs and one of the dogs has slipped its lead and ran towards um a guide dog and shown some sort of aggression towards the guide dog the incident is over literally Within Split Second and the guide dog appears to be absolutely fine but when the dog has given back to her owner he turns on her as this begins to walk away CCTV quite helpfully is caught in a literally a full force punch at the back of the head of the dog it's quite distressing to watch and the dog falls to the ground and then in the very corner of the CCTV shot it's lying down and you can see that it's absolutely terrified he's got his face right in the dog's face and then he hits it again then as he goes out a shot of the CCTV camera the the attack apparently continues right the way down the street with numerous kicks and punches on this on this dog if you've got somebody who's willing to do that sort of brutal physical violence against an animal in the street with people shouting at him to stop blood kill and when you think what what could be happening behind closed doors if the dog does something wrong so we've got to get those dogs away the app setting footage and witness statements have resulted in the police issuing a warrant to seize the dogs [Music] both Kaya and Kane are at home with their owner they've got footage of you I've seen the CCTV shows the officer serves the court this morning there's four there's four witnesses as well we've witnessed you beating the dog down the road under the warrant these dogs are going to be seized today they're going to be coming with me beaten of dogs I work in an area unfortunately it happens a lot and um that is one of the things that angers me the most I just think that when you become physically violent towards you your dog that's it you've crossed the line there's so many different ways that you can deal with a dog's bad behavior basic training and to become physically abuse and violence is just is um not acceptable at all Anthony brings out the first of the dogs and the one that was attacked twelve-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Kaya silly isn't it come on buddy this is a dog that was beaten all the way down this street I'm beating outside the shop as well so um it's good it's good I'm made up that we've gotta I'm gonna take the other one as well because there's no way I'm leaving anything In Harm's Way to be battered like that again the evidence speaks of itself sort of coming with me as simple as that welcome [Music] remove the second dog as well the other dog is also a staffy older brother Kane little old boy don't you buddy looks like an old boy come on let's go and he's carrying some unwelcome passengers you're not fully covered in fleas buddy look at them horrible things okay please we sort that I'll fly you straight away it's going good there's your friend don't worry here's your friend jump in oh good boy with the dogs now safe in the van Anthony goes back to interview the owner the evidence on its own is enough to prosecute you how many times can you remember do you think it's acceptable to physically beat your dog no no well the owner admits to hitting Kaya he says he'd been drinking and can't recall if he did anything else he's reluctant to sign over the docks he's basically admitted to remembrance smacking Kaya twice but he says that might have been to do with how drunk he was and his memory and his stressed at the time for all I know it might be what it might have been a one-off I still don't think there's any ever a reasonable excuse to you know drag a dog down the road kicking and punching it no matter what's going on in your life I think it's a boring behavior and uh and you know I want to make sure that it doesn't happen again the next step for this friendly pair is a trip to the vets where Kaya will be examined for an elasting injuries from her attack I think that's an interesting thing this one piece will make 52 layers watch on mobile devices or the big screen all for free no subscription required download vli now [Music] [Applause] [Music] Anthony Jones has just rescued two staffies seized from their owner by the police [Music] good girl twelve-year-old Kaya was caught on CCTV being punched by her owners what a traumatic experience for such a gentle girl please you've got fleas as well you've got fleas as well come on she's beautiful it took Anthony just over a week to track down Kaya and get a warrant but she's safe now and vet Holly Jones will see if she's suffered any long-term injury [Music] maybe have a look and see whether there's any obvious signs of bruising or anything consistent with what she went through yeah um it's a good girl sometimes you can't tell with bruising you'd see red marks just like in people you'd see it under the skin but a week later the bruising is probably cleared up on any swellings or heat or pain anywhere she came in quite bouncy which is a good sign she's quite happy and comfortable there's just a little red mark there but that looks more like where a color might have been rubbing a rather than bruising or a scratch yeah but she's got fleas got on there oh yeah oh there's one under my nail there's a little blazer there right sweetheart let's get you a flu treatment I know okay and that will kill all those nasty fleas it's okay it's okay just get to be there is that nice she was in really good condition considering what we saw on the CCTV where you could see her being actually physically punched there was no signs of any bruising any swelling anywhere which is good and she was in generally good condition apart from those fleas come on in good news for Kaya then hey buddy her older brother Kane was unharmed in the incident but is also considered at risk [Music] hello hi you're a bit leaner aren't you yeah he's a bit mean yeah you're okay don't yeah and he's crawling our little friends as well oh you have you got hundreds of them oh yeah you can see where his coat sitting around his tail base and that's where he's been scratching because in there are hundreds of fleas see all those fleas moving in that poor Kane definitely needs treatment to get rid of those fleas and there's something else that needs to go to by the looks of things he could have only been music couldn't he a long time ago they're quite prominent [Music] I guess yes come on [Music] Kane's doing absolutely fine there's no signs of any injuries to him either he's a really happy bouncy Lively dog considering his age apart from his fleas which has got slightly worse than the other dog the two Lively staffies are now on their way to Wirral Animal Center where they'll be looked after while Anthony prepares the case against their owner they're really close aren't they don't worry she's there she said wait wait wait wait um yes well done here you go again it's okay [Music] hopefully it's onwards and upwards for this friendly pair [Music] get some water this guy's obviously made a catastrophic error and lost both of these really beautiful dogs I'll sleep better tonight knowing that got two dogs out of a situation where they were at risk of violence no more no buddies no more violence you think softy we'll see what the future holds for this dynamic duo later for today over in southeast London inspector Anthony pulfer is also showing some love for a dog in need [Applause] [Music] it's 6 pm and Anthony is following up on a call from a member of the public about a collapsed Labrador that belongs to a homeless man hello oh is that Kirsty yeah rspca inspector oh hello there I'll try to catch you before you close what's the dog doing is it laying down he got attacked by another dog the other day and he was fine then last night I was having a lump come up okay and he's got worse today right all right tell him I'm going to come over and I'll be there within 30 minutes I'll let him know thank you very much Anthony is heading to Greenwich where the dog and his homeless owner are waiting just hoping this dog's not overstage where it's too late or suffering greatly now we're losing light as well hopefully we can find him estimated that over four and a half thousand people were sleeping rough in the UK last year for a number of these pet dogs provide essential respite from loneliness dogs amazing you know the law to they give to an owner and uh you know they become that lifelong friend uh really that's quite special foreign case like this they need the help of a charity to get treatment for their four-legged friends buddy how you doing you're right okay my name's Anthony I'm one of the inspectors the rspca what's the dog's name Joshi okay let's have a look what you're worried about you got bit okay there's all the Puffs coming out of her neck yeah okay that's quite miserable isn't it tight the owner has been trying to treat Josie himself by cleaning her wound with antibacterial wipes but he's worried the infection will spread she needs to be here all right buddy yeah that needs as we seen by that tonight because that's quite a bad hole what you realize is rsp's inspectors you can't you can't save the world save the dogs all dogs you know about the but the one you got in front of you if you can change that animal's life in the short term you feel you've done the right job that day and ultimately you've improved animals welfare Josie's been registered with the local charitable vets half an hour away oh hi it's Anthony I've come to a homeless person with a Labrador his dog's been attacked by a dog so Anthony arranges to take her there I just I just want to get this dog some treatment tonight you know all right I popped down with this dog Josie and we'll go from there thanks for your help she's come with me and we can help me get her in the van just around the corner okay cheers buddy going up do you like that oh bless you good girl okay very obedient thanks buddy hopefully the dog can come back here tonight we can return the dog to the owner see how we get on really let's hope the infection from Josie's nasty wound hasn't spread we'll be back with her later dogs are rescued from all kinds of terrible situations many are abandoned others left to starve and some live in constant pain but time and time again they bounce back and their ability to love and trust is remarkable as Angelica Bell discovers [Music] we know that rescue dolls can make Amazing Pets and have a unique ability to form powerful bonds with us now while some rescue dogs are happy completing that family jigsaw there are others who have bigger roles to play and I'm about to meet one of them [Music] how are you nice to meet you nice to meet you this is Rolo hello Rolo so what breed is he he is half Springer Spaniel on half miniature poodle so they call that either a springer poo or a spoodle a spoodle I like that name in December 2013 a very ill Rolo was one of 30 dogs rescued from appalling conditions on a puppy farm he was lucky to survive but thankfully he pulled through and at 12 weeks old he went to live with Claire he's not just a family pet is he he's not just a family pet he works as a therapy dog and what does it mean to be a therapy dog well every week we go to the local hospital and he visits lots and lots of different patients and actually helps them to get better as soon as we walk into a ward you can feel and see the atmosphere lift it has this little bib would you like to put it on that'd be great good boy good boy I'm Keen to see Rolo in action so I'm joining him as he does his weekly rounds at South End hospital today he's visiting the stroke Ward where he's a familiar face [Music] first up is one of his regulars hello Mrs Hewitt yeah so how do you feel when you see Rolo good yes it's quite soothing to stroking yeah I know it's obviously because you have some difficulty saying some words sometimes um he doesn't actually need any words from you does he no I can see it's made look at your face you just be just beat me consultant Dr Paul guyler feels pet assisted therapy can be of real benefit to his stroke patients yeah if they've got a problem maybe moving their arm sort of uh patting or stroking the dog or brushing well it will mean that that Tattoo's sort of physical rehabilitation therapy they're doing [Music] is throat sufferer Allen Brackett so this is your son Anthony it's lovely to meet you both so tell me a bit about your dad what happened six weeks ago to the day we were um at Stanford Bridge watching Chelsea play football got towards the end of the game and um I said should we shoot now before the crowds leave and I just know it's a little bit unsteady on his feet his left side become a bit weak rushed to chair across hospital to Discovery that a major bleed on the right side of his head yeah and here we are six weeks later basically well he loves Bruno I've heard that you know he's got a real Affinity to him you know how do you think that that's helping him I think it's been normality to be fair he does Love Dogs he's got a dog at home that's Rolo they're talking about your dog at home Monday [Music] and you can't be anybody here obviously yeah so this is just a nice you know alternative yeah so do you think therapy like this is just invaluable oh absolutely obviously my dad's loving it and the dogs like it as well so yeah it's all good can you use both his hands he's left side it's been really effective which I think is probably four rollers best outside because it's encouraged to do yes stimulation yeah exactly yeah you doing really well it started moving the first time didn't it or Friday you did didn't it we kicked a little bit of a football game we did so Chelsea Chelsea we're going to ring you up in a minute yes it must be desperate to walking the dog okay thank you see you soon it's just really it's really just encouraging to see how Rono impacts these patients lives I mean they've had life-changing things happen to them and just him giving them that little Ray of Hope is just amazing this really is amazing I'm just a bit overwhelmed this amazing dog also helps patients who are further along with their recovery [Music] walking with Rolo helps John Slater who's a bit unsteady on his feet good boy good boy Daddy it's good to have him outside because it's the uneven grounds and things are good for Mobility practice as well yeah especially when he's excited about the dogs quite nice to see when Rolo comes it sort of gives you that connection with outside doesn't it yeah so that I can I can say yes I can do it I know I couldn't do it yeah these are the kind of stroke I like and after A Hard Day's Work Rolo likes nothing better than to stretch his legs well he is a dog there we go look at him today was a good day wasn't it oh it was lovely super day you can see he's just a regular dog but yeah in the hospital is so professional as you saw um and I think I just wish more people knew about it and more people had to go at doing it and they can have play time afterwards hahaha we see dogs being rescued from all kinds of heartbreaking situations and seeing Rolo at work today and the huge difference he's making to people's recoveries shows that maybe dogs can rescue us too coming up Josie the labrador proves to be a model patient you are amazing your daddy train you well yeah and we meet six poorly pups found dumped by a field now safe in the hands of volunteer Fosters after their well we'll start looking for permanent homes for them and I believe there's been a lot of interest already [Applause] [Music] 15 in southeast London and Anthony pulfur has just picked up Labrador Josie whose owner is homeless he's taking her for emergency treatment for an infected bite wound okay here we go fat emila 2 fan is on the night shift by another dog yesterday or the day before and they've been trying to obey the antiseptic wipes but it looks like it's become infected you can see the discharge coming through Emma needs a closer look at the sight of the wound so she'll need to get some of Josie's fur shaved off [Music] sorry it's okay well done good girl Joseph's been very brave so basically what happens is when they have a massive infection with bacterias that is enclosed bacteria is really tend to love darkness and moisture so they're gonna grow which happened Under the Skin So when they grow Puffs will form that past needs to be cleared from the wounds by flushing them out with a sterile solution it's a messy job so if you're eating your dinner best Look Away now told you to look away oh mind the camera nearly over Anthony poor thing yeah it's just what I thought I'd be doing on a Thursday night oh now it's okay because it's just liquid and blood okay it's okay Jason it's okay good girl Brave girl Josie seems to be taking it all in her stride but her ordeal's not over yet [Music] doing very very brave this is gonna carry on draining until everything gets cleaned up thankfully Josie has received treatment in the nick of time it's not life-threatening because we cleaned out the past we cleaned out the mess we're gonna carry on with um antibiotics and painkillers um and hopefully in a few days times it's going to be absolutely fine you are amazing do you feel that they train you well I really appreciate your help tonight well she may be in the clear Anthony still has work to do [Music] Chelsea has to be returned to her owner he's staying the night at a friend's flat foreign [Music] Anthony feels the owner in on the news about his four-legged friend so what the Vets done is they've shaved the area they've drained two wounds they had to make an incision this one to let this draw out we've got a couple of bits for you there's two lots of medication she needs to start medication tonight as well as her painkillers and antibiotics antibiotics and these are two in the morning two in the evening the vet has also given Josie a goodie bag we've also just got your nice little bit of treats and food from the pdsa lesson they just got some bits together um I know like so she's she enjoys her food obviously Chelsea will need to be taken for a checkup in a week's time I'll get my colleague to give you a shout next Friday so you get on yeah they said you ain't gonna make an appointment just show up all right thanks very much I'll speak to you next Friday it might be nearly midnight but it's a job well done for Anthony it'll always take a few hours to get sorted it's important to give this job this time and to get Josie all the treatment she needed see that the dog loves his owner to find out more about homeless people and their dogs and catching up with inspector Anthony so Anthony you did a bit of after hours work there yeah sometimes you know we do receive calls that take us into the early hours of the morning so I realize really there is no end time to your shifts really you never know what you're doing next makes the job very interesting how often do you encounter problems with dogs belong to homeless people it can be quite a regular occurrence and a lot of the times it's when the dogs at most need whether it be injured or or ill at that time so we're always there to help and there's a much-loved pet I think maybe it's a misconception of dogs with homeless people that they don't get looked after so well do you think that's right yeah what I seem to find when I deal with homeless people with dogs is they're usually the most cared for dogs you know these dogs are all their life and I rarely see an underweight dog should we say that a homeless person they usually would think of their dogs before themselves tell me a bit about the charitable help that those animals can receive I didn't know about that there's lots of animal hospitals that have schemes for homeless people where they can present their dogs and get treatment for their animal that was pretty gory scene in the Vets oh yeah I noticed you turning away yeah the internet kind of a fountain of uh discharges is that the most impressive Fountain you've seen yes it was exciting and then he actually got me in the face at one point the dog was just sitting there in a trance yeah it was almost pleasurable it's nice to see it cleaned and get getting better and Joseph's been back to the vet since I understand she has yeah and she's all back to health she's all good Well you certainly you went above me on the Call of Duty there Anthony thank you well done keep having a good work [Music] island of Wales there are 59 rspca animal centers that cater for dogs in need but there are also branches of the charity that don't have access to kennels so any rescued dogs are cared for by a network of volunteer phosphorus come on come on Garden everybody K Pryor is homing coordinator at the Chilton branch a few months ago she helped to Foster six poorly pups found dumped by a field and suspected to have come from a puppy Farm I had a phone call from our inspector she phoned to say was I able to take any of them um so I asked if she could give me an hour to ring round which I did and everybody said yes we'd like to Kay took one of the pups herself six-month-old lacer Apso Boris who seems to have made himself at home he's not frightened of other dogs he quite likes to interact with them with people he struggles um he's frightened of them until he he settles down realizes they're not going to touch you I'm not going to hurt him and then he's fine but people men especially who does growl or bark at them Boris was heavily matted with scabby's skin when he was found nine days after his rescue Kay's taking him to see vet Emma Schofield for a checkup little one right so how are we getting on this week no he's fine he's still scratching a lot okay do you feel us any less than before yes let's have a look at this then shall we can see the skin is going to be something that's ongoing for us this little infected patch here is healing nicely so once all these scabs come away I think that should be healed nicely underneath but I'd like to just leave them intact yes the next step is really just trying to get him on some medication to try and minimize the itchiness and I suspect he has allergic skin disease so yeah we'll get some tablets to try and stop the itching and we might need to consider a special diet in the future because it could be dietary the allergy you know the allergy cause so we'll just see how we get on I think we're doing very well Boris is making good progress and so it seems on the other pups all in the care of the fostering Network underweight puggle Jojo and Judy a Yorkie with fernos a living with Vicky day who's been fostering for the charity for two years so they really haven't got a clue about tourists because they've missed out on that early bit most puppies are playing when they're six seven weeks JoJo come on but they're getting there and they're beginning to play together after their well which we estimate will be probably at least a month's time we'll start looking for permanent homes for them but I believe there's been a lot of interest already Jane Faulkner has been with the fostering group for over 20 years she's now caring for two shy Bichon frize cross pups called Timmy and Diana they're adorable very very sweet they just love running around and it's so enjoyable seeing them come out of themselves and be happy and just be puppies just being totally full of life and Carefree after what they've been through they didn't used to play fight but they've just started play fighting which is quite nice together I think it's a sign that they are yeah getting back to being normal puppies the sixth pup beagle Lola is being fostered by Mel she's also seeing vet Emma about an uncomfortable eye condition hello true how are we getting on brilliantly she's doing really well a little nervous aren't you she had her lubricating eye drops to go home yes I've been doing that morning night great tolerating as well yeah yeah she's no problem having them okay does she pull up her eyes at all no great obviously Lola's got what we call cherry eye in both eyes which is where one of the tear glands of the eyes has popped out of place yeah it's quite unusual in this breed it's quite unusual to have it in both eyes and it will require surgical correction which basically us tucking it back in and stitching it in place that usually works very well well I think it's probably a good idea for us to do is get her fully vaccinated and then book the surgery for a couple of weeks time which is really a bit bigger a couple of months on and there's good news Lola's had her operation for cherry eye she's made a full recovery and has been adopted Boris the Lassa Apso is still living with his foster okay she couldn't part with him and is now a permanent fixture and due to the Yorkie and JoJo the puggle have also found lovely new owners but what about play fighting pups Timmy and Diana [Music] now living with sisters Becky and Charlotte who helped get the pups to safety when they were first found making them dog Rescuers twice over the pups were on the side of the road they were tucked away in the Hedge because they were scared when we first saw the puppies they were very malnourished it had also been raining very heavily so they were all very wet and Soggy which was very sad they were just in an awful State these two their flowers well they were missing half of it I wrapped them both up in a towel together and we just sat on the chair having a cuddle whilst I warmed them up it was absolutely awful when we had to take them to the vet tonight to leave them again because I just wanted them to stay with me a month of fostering later and Rebecca got her wish and the pups now have new names too Nancy and Albert they joined a very big family we have nine dogs since we've got Albert and Nancy they've just fitted in straight away it's almost like they should have always been with us and with plenty of TLC both pups have made a full recovery now it's like they never had any issues they're just totally revived aren't they yeah we were very smitten with them the day that they were found and to know that they're with us now for the rest of their lives is just lovely [Music] coming up what's going on I know it's lovely Anthony joins catches up with rescued staffies Kaya and Kane they're just lovely lovely dogs and they've got a lot of life left in them they're quite senior in their years but they've got a lot of left to give haven't you and if you think you've got what it takes to give a pooch a good home find out how you can become a dog rescuer [Applause] [Music] earlier Anthony joins rescued Kaya and Kane after their owner had been caught on CCTV punching Kaya [Music] hey bud how you doing Anthony has been paying regular visits to both Lively staffies [Music] what can we do for you hey come on go for a little walk thank you [Music] they've been cared for at Wirral Animal Center while their case has been ongoing let you off okay I'll go and get your sister I don't get your sister I don't get your sister you gotta be good okay okay come here sit down sit sit but it's taken much longer than Anthony had hoped back in a minute I'll be back stay they've been in kennels now for coming up to the one year anniversary which is tragic in my opinion it can only be attributed to the to the defendants and the defense really they've sort of dragged it out for 12 months hey girl I know come on then should we go and see Kane should we come on Verona has now pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to Kaya [Music] he was disqualified from keeping dogs for 12 months and given a community order [Music] I know I know I know but it seems a long stay in kennels hasn't affected the High Spirits of this fun-loving pair what's going on I know it's lovely so exciting thank you thank you got me a little hot and sweaty Jumping All Over Me they're just amazing dogs and they just want human attention and affection they just want to play I find it very sad but I find it quite frustrating as well because you know nearly nine years now I've done this job and you don't you don't really get much more of a cut and dry cases this one what it should have been in this case it should have been a quite oh no yeah nice one in the background Kaya is that nice you rubbing your bum it's artificial grass that's a friction burn your bum hey wait let me just cut I was on a serious moment then guys knock it off sorry as you were saying Anthony the defendant pleaded guilty just some eight months ago and um and then quite dramatically and quite frustratingly that guilty plea was then um rescinded and and not guilty plea was was um was given to the courts we've literally just concluded the trial um two-day trial which ended up going into a third day and on the third day of the trial the defendant pleaded guilty again come on come on Kaya good girl well done you remove animals because you're doing your best for them and you want them to have a better life and the fact that they've come into kennels and then waited for over a year now it's just really sad well I have some fantastic news after 534 days in the Charities care Kai and Kane were re-homed together with Chile Dennis and here they are nice to see you and you how you getting on with them very well thank you I've had stuffs all my life have you yeah so I was really familiar with the breed I just felt that they were for me so what were they like when they first came home they were absolutely delighted so they were quite Lively yes very Lively jumped on the sofa licks my face couldn't stop smiling from here to it it was almost like they knew what had happened they'd been rescued and they didn't even look back at all you've got a nice life now it's got it makes noises like an actual Pig he does here's my little black boy I have troubles well thank you so much for bringing them along thank you as you've seen in the program many rescue dogs don't have the best start in life but that doesn't mean that they can't make Incredible Pets the rspca care for thousands of them and there's often lots of work that needs to be done to get them ready for re-homing and here's just one of the wonderful dogs they've been looking after [Music] Terry a crossbreed he's around 18 months old his previous owners didn't really do much socialization or training with him it made him a little bit more difficult to re-home we've done the training the socialization so his progress is really good and he does now know some basic commands sit Henry Paul good boy Henry down he's looking for an active home with adult owners who can carry on with his training down stay down good boy he just loves being outside playing with his toys so if you can give him that he'll be happy was this to a drink he would like to be the only pet just so he can have the family's full attention on him he's crazy fun but extremely loving good boy Henry really deserves a forever home now he has learned so much he's such a lovely dog and someone's really missing out on a lovely family member [Music] on today's show we'll be shining a light on the dark side of breeding and the inspectors that are fighting to stop pups like these guys being farmed for profit we'll also be meeting some special dogs that survived the horrors of a puppy farm and are now living in happy loving homes what should we do now I promise no juggling coming up oh that stinks two dogs living in a cold and dirty shed are rescued from a puppy trafficker so this one again back in its washing up bull probably because that's the warmest place for it the miraculous recovery of two bold and defenseless Lhasa Apso puppies dumped in a garden they must have been absolutely freezing they'd have been found any later they might not have been whittles today hello and I'll be finding out what happens when reading for looks goes too far it's a freezing December morning an inspector Pippa Boyd of the rspca's Special Operations unit is heading for Bolton she's on the trail of a suspected puppy trafficker who's known to sell dogs online and today their raiding three addresses he's linked to one address there's a male there who's selling puppies another address we believe puppies are being kept there and then a third address we believe they're breeding and selling puppies unit or investigating reports that the pups has been selling are very unwell we've had 10 complaints and nine of those complaints the puppies have died sickness diarrhea and a lot of them have had parvovirus [Music] the police are executing the warrants on all three addresses for Pippa and her colleague Chief Inspector Mike Butcher oh there's just one lady okay are there any puppies here there's no puppies he's doing adopting the garden at the moment The woman Inside is the mother of the suspect she says there are two of his dogs in the garden so we're just going to get some gloves Etc and then go and have a look and see what we find in the garden but first precautions need to be taken against the killer parvovirus which can be common in situations like this it's just for us to dip our feet stops the spreading of parvo virus when we go into a location like this it's usually important and that Disease Control is put in place things like parvovirus that can spread so quickly between litters or puppies the virus can stay in that environment for a long time if you just make sure that anyone who comes been in the back bushes I think so we've just got to go through the back gate and see what we find [Music] so we've got some crates here which is typically where puppies would be kept obviously no protection they're out in the rain they're dirty but no puppies but there are some adult dogs here and pippa's nose tells us she's getting closer oh that stinks and it absolutely in here as well inside she finds two sad looking females who could well be the mothers of sold litters they do have food but really dirty conditions and their species everywhere all the pieces here it's all got mold over so these haven't been cleaned out for ages which is why it absolutely stinks new friendly yeah you just want a bit of loving didn't you the man they're investigating passed himself off as a reputable breeder advertising online and offering to deliver puppies to their new owners a pug puppy can fetch up to 1500 pounds whenever we go in on a puppy job where legal puppy farming is involved we just know that the conditions that we go in will be horrendous you know they won't have heat in they won't have adequate light it's shocking how they think that they can keep their animals especially in a case like this where people are profiting a lot of money from selling dogs is always a sad story it's just sickening it's so easy just to clean them out especially if you've got puppies here and you know disease gets spread and you're selling Puppies You're making a lot of money out of puppies just to not be bothered to just clean up and to prevent disease is they're so frustrating [Music] good the dogs cannot stay in these appalling conditions so we've definitely got section 9 offenses not meeting their needs [Music] there's no sign of the suspect that the other two addresses where Mike has been busy gathering evidence Circle you just found this pile here obviously of burn stuff but a lot of it is dog stuff basically discarded bowls burnt bedding and on the back here two three four five or six discarded food and water bowls this is all vital evidence for any prosecution the rspca May pursue and it seems there's more proof of pups being sold inside perhaps for sale and uh distinctive features there so when you compare what's in the house for the photographs and pepper might just have found a match this advert corresponds with this corner so I believe that is this address but now it's time to free the adult dogs from the shed so it's just a high risk area so we need to get them out of there first out is the little crossbreed so this one again back in its washing up bull and probably because that's the warmest place for it okay mate [Music] scratching constantly [Music] the park is very very cool but I bet she's pleased to Houston [Music] two adult dogs have been made from that address [Music] both other addresses there's evidence of puppies being there um but today there's no puppies but the likelihood is disease is in all the properties there's no doubt the conditions have had an adverse effect on the two dogs so a vet check can't come soon enough [Applause] [Music] inspector Pippa Boyd has just rescued two dogs from a suspected puppy trafficker there are no live pups were found these two adult females could well have had litters that had been sold on you can jump on if you want come on I'll be called they're now going to be examined by vet Sean Taylor he's starting with the Pug they've named Phoebe fancy dirt she is the contaminated with I would imagine that's our environment contamination from what you've said not quite much both dogs are very itchy a sign they may have parasites more wood [Music] something crawling about in there [Music] that's what's causing them to HPC you can see there's one there and one there I've got some ice in there [Music] nice thrive on dogs that are poorly cared for like Phoebe she needs anti-parasitic drops to help get rid of them let's get that underway as quick as we can a friend of little things oh yeah a few ear mites down there as well so again that's probably par for the course that term spot on that we've had treats here Max but I'm going to give you some ear drops as well which will just just settle down the irritation a bit quicker next for examination is the other dog who's been named Patsy with dogs they're very contagious so I'm expecting to find the same external parasites on this one that we found on the last one let's have you up on there oh yeah you can see the Crusty lesions that we've got in here see how it causes the itching this is what we've got there the issue that you've got with things like lice and mites is they get embedded within the skin certainly the amount of crust that we've got coming away from this skin is indicative of external parasites Patsy will need the same treatment as Phoebe to help with her itchiness they smell very malodious the um the Coats were very sticky which is often due to some form of contamination from the environment more often than not its species in urine it's an environment that's been sort of ingrained within their down to their skin so it's something that they've been housed in for a reasonable period of time both dogs will continue their treatment at Kennels I'll be having to interview the owner of all the dogs but the investigation continues we'll catch up on Phoebe and Pat's recovery later we've seen that there are unscrupulous people out there willing to cash in on high value breeds with little regard for their welfare not the only issue these designer dogs face for well over a century many purebred and pedigree dogs have been bred to look a certain way regardless of the resulting health issue and perhaps one of the worst affected is the iconic Bulldog as Angelica Bell has been finding out flat-faced breeds such as bulldogs and pugs are becoming hugely popular in the UK but they're in trouble they're shorter muzzles result in more soft tissue being packed into a tighter space so many of them struggle to breathe this combined with their other health problems mean that some of these dogs are born into a lifetime of suffering I'm here at the Royal Veterinary College in Hertfordshire where they have a Specialist Clinic helping these broken dogs Anna hello David and Anna Chandler have brought along their British Bulldog Rosa for an operation to help her breathe how are you feeling I'm nervous we'll see how it goes today yeah well hopefully we'll get it sorted fingers crossed yeah hi brother very cheeky one you're okay hi I'm Linda Rosa suffers from a condition known as brachycephalic obstructive Airway syndrome or Boaz for short and specialist vet Linda Rutherford will be performing the procedure later on today when she was younger she would be able to walk for for an hour two hours and she would really enjoy herself so how far is he able to walk at the moment I would say we take a form 20 minutes 15-20 minutes subject to the weather how long does it take her to recover anything from two to six hours oh wow to show just how much roza struggles with her breathing we're taking her for a short walk so what we're going to do is walk Rosa up and down as much as she wants to do in six minutes and we'll look at her heart rate her breathing rate in her temperature afterwards okay okay you ready okay that's good it's quite quick I think she will slow down she'll slow down in a bit yeah and you can really hear her breathing yeah it's hard going for Paul Rosa come on come on come on yeah you can do it she's up I don't know if she can actually keep walking at a fast pace for any period thank you my heart rate before was 88 or so and now it's 130 so it has gone up quite a bit I mean it sounds like she's in a lot of distress but I think it can be really distressing for them it's as if they're breathing through a straw and trying to exercise with hardly any any airflow good to go Rosa is clearly in desperate need of help and I want to find out exactly what brachycephalic obstructive Airway syndrome really means it's essentially because of her muzzle or nose has been foreshortened so the bones of the skull are too short but she still has all this soft tissue so you can see like um she's got this facial fold her nostrils are very very narrow is that why she's breathing like that with her tongue out and stuff because she's just finding all these different difficulty to get the air around exactly this is a CT scan of a Labrador nice long muzzle here black is air on this CT this is the flow for the air and then this in comparison is a French Bulldog so you can see already like the nose is so short we've got no space one of the things that we address in the surgery is to basically take away part of the soft palate to try and make it end about there which is much more appropriate breeding for looks has created other problems in Bulldogs too they have the highest rate of hip dysplasia of any dog and over 80 percent of pups need to be delivered by cesarean section due to their oversized heads so Linda your plan today is obviously make it easier for her yeah you can't get rid of the problem but you can make it no make her life just a little bit more enjoyable exactly I hope that then she can have a bit more quality of life like enjoying running in the park and doing normal doggy things you've got a big day ahead haven't you [Music] did I tell you home I'll take me home take me home although there are responsible breeders out there there are others who are most definitely not our next story involves pups that were dumped because they'd lost their fur so couldn't be sold on foreign [Music] cold night in Bradford and man was caught on CCTV tipping two tiny puppies out of a carrier bag into a front garden [Music] when they were found the puppies thought to be Lhasa Apsos were in a terrible state oh with 90 fur loss the pair named Pippin and Purdy were taken to an animal center where they've been under the watchful eye of animal care assistant Georgie Meeks you okay we're in the isolation unit here because they do have a skin condition which as of yet we don't know whether it's contagious because the puff skin condition is still undiagnosed Georgie has to wear a special protective suit before she can have any contact with them there we are ready to play come on out then guys come on then ow what's my finger they were dumped by a gentleman about a half past nine on a cold night and they were left out on their own for about six hours [Music] and as you can see they haven't got any fur they must have been absolutely freezing they'd have been found any later they might not have been with us today it doesn't bear thinking about what these tiny pups have already been through at such an early age came in they were really quiet quite until they settled in and realized they were safe and being well looked after two weeks after being rescued thankfully Pippin and Purdy are starting to show signs of progress since I've been in the personalities have come on so much they've just got little characters they're really naughty I don't know it's over and under and make a little halt had to grow back in a day see his is come on on her head and he's got quite gingery on top I do actually call them my little gremlins it's an affectionate term though as well as playing with these two every day Georgie needs to give them regular medicated baths bath I thought you were meant to get Gremlins wet so normally this type of puppy being Lhasa Apsos would be complete fluff balls like head to toe just lovely fluffy fur come on what are you ready okay at the moment we're not entirely sure what the condition is it could either be Demodex which is quite easy to treat or it could be sarcoptic mange which is contagious and is a lot harder to get rid of mange is a parasitic infestation that without treatment can cause serious health problems so we do these baths once a week and we will continue doing them indefinitely until we see a vast Improvement in the skin condition right are you done we'll leave that on for 10 minutes and you can just have a little run around whilst whilst the shampoo is working yeah yeah freedom is off you term per day she's like no not me okay now we skate party the first time I bath them they both screamed when I poured warm water on them I think it came as a bit of a shock damn well they've seen Gremlins Purdy looks pretty resigned to her fate now sorry little and it's for the best it'll make your fur grow back quicker caution poppies are Slippery When Wet get your excuses in early come on then are we gonna have to pick you up no no I have beaten already rinse all that shampoo off okay [Music] I wonder you open a nice fluffy towel oh fluff do you want to go back in your bed now yeah exhausting all that bathing so they're not on any other treatments at the moment apart from their mouths of baths you ready for the burrito in a couple of weeks I'll both get their puppy vaccinations and routine flea and wormer and hopefully then after the baths that'll be it for them and they'll be a fighting fit right should we go and join your brother yes foreign we'll see you later good night also coming up hello boys hello inspector Hershey bowl is reunited with two pups born after a raid on a puppy Farm they're doing brilliantly they look amazing you know you know you think of where they could have ended up it's just incredible so that's the massive soft palate and Rosa the Bulldog goes under the knife for her life-changing up and I'm gonna aim to cut to there [Music] [Applause] oh it's on this way in December 2015 inspector Hershey Bowl was involved in a raid on a puppy Farm on the outskirts of Birmingham puppy farming is a is a huge problem it's it's become increasingly big with the internet really become an actual business now the six in here about five in there members of the public raised the alarm after several puppies bought from the farm later died from the highly contagious parvo virus these are not pet dogs they are literally just being farmed they're used for breeding it's quite obvious that that's what they the purpose is that really in total 37 dogs were seized that day and nine were confirmed as pregnant many of them went on to have healthy pups in the Charities care but others from the farm weren't so lucky prior to the raid Tom Mather unsuspectedly bought two puppies online and became another victim of this terrible trade found the Westie puppies for sale it was fairly local I contacted them and after a couple of days then I went around to see them and I came home with with the two of them [Music] they were sick and stuff on the way home I just put that down to them just being sort of just being recently wormed and being unsettled from being away from their mum and they were just constantly being sick and diarrhea worried Tom made several visits to the vet with the two pups he'd named Ben and Max the last trip to the vets they did the test for parvovirus and it was positive and unfortunately then they were put to sleep it's really sad thing to say isn't it but it's that that is the that is what happens when you buy Dogs online you don't really know what what you're getting thanks to evidence given by Tom and many others the puppy farmers were found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering one was jailed for six months while the other got a suspended sentence of 22 weeks between them they were ordered to pay costs of 45 000 pounds both have been banned from keeping dogs for life I was really happy with the result it's the biggest investigation that I've dealt with you know in in my whole time as an inspector it literally almost killed me but I was so determined to see it through oh hello and I'm really glad that I did [Music] but that wasn't the end of the story for Tom [Music] you know they've got all these puppies that had been born and would I'd be willing to foster them and you know I jumped at the chance he chose two lucky pups from different litters and Tom named them George and Archie and George they both just turned two years old their mothers were rescued from the original puppy farming case these were born in rspca care about a month did the the raid on the farm actually sit sit good boy Arch is very inquisitive he's always into everything he's always sleeping with one eye open and one ear pinged up but George is just like a little lizard he'll just lie down and just spark out and be asleep for hours and it's a little pudding let's go for a walk come on George looks like a no from George takes a bit of encouragement from Archie Tom and his partner Jack to get him out of the house come on in boys quickly come on then [Music] oh Jesus wants to go go all the time and George just likes to take his time come on George it's quite a relief really knowing that these guys have got such a good lifestyle now compared to what they they potentially could have had oh they've landed on their four little paws both of them [Music] the second I said yes I'd Foster them I knew I'd be keeping them forever there was never never any question or any doubt and today Tom and Jack have got a special surprise in store for their boys about to be reunited with the inspector who rescued their mum hersheyball thank you good to see you hello boys the boys look very pleased I've been getting on yeah really good little monkeys keep us busy yeah look at him look like butter wouldn't melt but I'm so grateful you know so very grateful for for you fostering them in the first place they're doing brilliantly they look amazing and you know you think of where they could have ended up Vizio is trading you've had you're gonna see it oh you will do are you a good boy sit good boy good boy right I'll shall leave you in peace thanks so much you know when you when you start a sort of multiple puppy farming warrant and you know it's going to end up kind of taking over your life you can only dream of this moment [Music] it just makes the whole thing worthwhile for me you can just see how much Tom and Jack adore them they're having an absolutely great life it's what they deserve the good boys if you're dead set on getting a puppy there are some important things to look out for and here to give me some helpful advice is the rspca's Lisa hens this dog is called Paul is that an appropriate name for a dog if he likes it absolutely fine so it goes without saying that if you want a puppy you go to your local rescue center right but if you're not going to do that what should you do if you are going to buy a puppy then the key is to do loads and loads of research things like making sure you go and visit the puppy in the place that they were bred and reared at least twice and what you're looking for is signs that the puppy has actually been bred there and not just shipped in for the purpose of your visit so things like food and water bowls bedding toys make sure you see the mum and the puppies interacting together and all of the information about the mum what health test she's been screened for she's the dog's mum not the Breeders mum the dogs mum bring their own mum out a bit weird no good yeah bit weird so the dog's mum so these Pomeranians are a high value breeder I'm told yes I'm actually going to pay for pool you can buy a Pomeranian puppy for up to two thousand pounds so they're an awful lot of money yeah so it's just so essential that wherever you buy a puppy from oh you're coming with me but these are dogs that people will breed for profit look at them oh bless them but not all breeders are Dodgers are they no there are some nice ones there are and they'll put so much effort into making sure their puppies go to good homes so there are good breeders out there it's just a case of finding them and doing your research good tips now back to Angelica at the Royal Veterinary College bulldog roza has a condition called brachycephalic obstructive Airway syndrome which means she's struggling to breathe vet Linda Rutherford is about to perform surgery on her palate and nose to help her take in more air so Rosa has been prepped and intubated so this is the tube that we've managed to fit in Rosa today so it's actually like very narrow for the size of her this is the tube that we would normally use for a weight equivalent dog so such as like a springer spaniel or something like that one that's really athletic has a much larger Airway um which really illustrates how difficult it is for her to breathe I know like what she has to face Boaz is believed to affect almost 50 percent of the Bulldog population the numbers of registered Bulldogs have almost doubled over the last 10 years and numbers of its French cousin have increased to 30 fold so it's set to overtake the labrador as the UK's most popular breed [Music] that's the massive soft palate and I'm gonna aim to cut to there are you seeing more and more operations like this yeah we are doing these increasingly frequently and I guess it's normal fast as a surgical team to do maybe two to four a week we're going to angle these scissors in so that the nasal mucosa doesn't cling back and just try and cut it as smoothly as possible foreign [Music] 's palette that is cut away looks deceptively small so this is the piece of pallet that we've removed and because it's a muscle it's already contracted quite a bit so when it was actually in rods it was much bigger than this but you can see it's actually pretty thick so it's about a centimeter and that was obviously hanging down at the back of her Airway I'm happy that the palette looks a much better length like much more appropriate and it's looking quite neat like now that the stitches are going in I think she's going to feel a lot better without that in dangling down in her area with the palette done Linda is now going to widen Roz's nostrils which will also improve her breathing if you're squeamish I'd look away now so if you want to cut about there so you're just opening the nasal passage for a couple of millimeters yeah so millimeters like make a big difference then we make sure that we take out a pyramid piece of nostril so it's quite deep so this is the last last Stitch now so they're like little distollable stitches and they will usually stay in for about three weeks and then just come out yeah and I think ultimately both of them are a lot bigger so that was the aim right exactly I'd let you work on my nose thank you but I can definitely see how that would have you know positive effect on was it thankfully rosen's procedures have both gone without a hitch and she's recovering well Where Do We Go From Here for Bulldogs you know what are we looking at from the future it's become much more apparent recently that we need to do something for their welfare maybe thinking about introducing cross-breeding to try and um you know increase the length of their nose and breeding schemes where they have to do an exercise test before they're allowed to breed the sad reality is we can only do so much for roza like things like Carter Kia we can't change at all only breeding and selecting for breathing can help her or help future Generations [Music] breathe easy but with the incredible boom in the number of flat-faced dogs operations like this will only become more common but some readers are now working towards a more healthier dog and hopefully others will follow suit prioritizing well-being overlooks [Music] earlier we met Pippin and Purdy two tiny pups found virtually furless after being cruelly dumped in a garden by their owner I do actually call them my little gremlins it's an affectionate term though hey guys thankfully they don't look like Gremlins anymore to be in mock [Music] just five weeks after being rescued and looked after by animal care assistant Georgie Meeks the transformation is unbelievable [Music] when they first came in they were almost completely bald with just a few Tufts of fur on their feet [Applause] see now their fur growth is almost complete thanks to weekly medicated baths these two have been given the all clear from mange and they've had their puppy vaccinations too right come on then guys [Music] and today vet Andrea Westborn will see if they can go up for re-homing hi hey yeah okay should I look at Purdy first so they're eating drinking fine absolutely I love the food no vomiting or diarrhea no nothing like that but it seems Purdy has a common problem so quite a lot of fur in the ears there so they might need a little bit of plucking if they tolerate it ow in long-haired breeds fur can grow in the ears which if left untrimmed can cause problems and lead to inflammation and infection so the ears need to be checked regularly and kept fuzz free that's better but she's fine that's fine his little legs are fine the hair growth is incredible it looks lovely so he's got a good coat there and no treatment needed as you can see the puppies have made a full recovery our good health and can be re-homed as soon as possible thank you very much Andrea see you again thanks bye they will make lovely pins very calm nice little pops very cute we're gonna go out apart from the garden they were found in these two have had little experience of the outside world just gonna put some jumpers on them so with the added protection of some brightly patterned knitwear for what could be the first time they're about to go for a walk I think they'll be terrified but they'll soon learn to love it well yeah we hate these jumpers should we go then [Music] right you ready for this so far so good I thought they'd be a lot more wary than this and a bit frightened but they seem to be handling it really well then too soon Georgie no this isn't this isn't good come on come on this place out there [Applause] there we go [Music] a collar and Lead obviously aren't as easy to wear as a woolly sweater so they take a bit of getting used to come on then it's lovely for them to be out and about in the outside world experience all new smells and different sights and textures on their feet and things nice chance for them to start being proper dogs out on a walk it's great progress for Pippin and Purdy and I bet it's not long before they find a forever home [Music] coming up shall we go to the beach we're catching up with three-year-old Phoebe from a sad existence in a dirty shed to a cushy Life as a Pampered princess she enjoys it here she goes and if your home is crying out for a rescue dog we might just have the one for you [Applause] [Music] place on the door earlier two dogs Patsy and Phoebe were rescued from an illegal puppy Trader it's likely they've been used for breeding and were living in wet dirty conditions little pug Phoebe was using a washing up Bowl as a bed he just wanted it living didn't he their owner pleaded guilty to six Animal Welfare offenses and was sentenced to a 16-week jail term he was disqualified from keeping dogs for life and there's great news for Patsy and Phoebe they've both found forever homes foreign Phoebe is now living with Chris and Nicola Musto and daughters Madeleine and Chloe it's been a good girl Anya yeah she was just what Nicola was looking for well my friend had rescued a pug from the rspca and um I said to if any more come up I'd really be interested so when one did come up she asked me if I would be interested in rehoming her I said yes definitely Phoebe is settled in but she has a few medical issues she needs regular eye drops for keratitis that's inflammation of her corneas we don't think she can see very well you know that's the biggest thing isn't it and she does run into things she makes up for it in her uh her nose wasn't she smell food from five places yeah is it Indians time and talking of food she has a special diet to help a urinary condition I mean she's she eats twice a day to some special special twice a day maybe that's what's causing the smelly farts possibly yeah she can clear a room can't she yeah she does she's very good at clearing her room but this tend to happen when she barks so it's like a bath kind of thing or is it a either way it's not her only unpleasant habit [Music] she likes to clean the flakes in the dishwasher it's her favorite thing isn't it jumping in the dishwasher to clean the plates yeah yeah nobody knows I do this no to that into naughty so tasty apart from that it seems Phoebe can do no wrong very pampered very pumped aren't you she deserves after what she's been through a lovely furry bed now haven't you oh she's clever that cozy bed is a world away from sleeping in a washing up bowl and a dirty shed princess Phoebe also has a new wardrobe she's got loads of outfits everything's Pink So when I'm taking for a walk and there's other blokes coming the other way I tend to cross the road it's got to look harsh and when you've got a posh outfit why not floor tip Phoebe loves a good day out at the beach even when it's snowy she enjoys it she loves it slow motion Beach running hello Granderson lucky Phoebe deserves her second chance at a happy life now yeah she is so how did things pan out for dumped Duo Pippin and party the breeder who abandoned them claimed he'd try to treat the skin problem himself and was inebriated when he left them in a garden he was issued with a caution and also signed the pup's mother over to the rspca and both these cuddly pups have gone on to find their forever homes fantastic [Music] [Applause] [Music] as you've seen in the program many rescue dogs don't have the best start in life but that doesn't mean that they can't make Incredible Pets the rspca care for thousands of them and there's often lots of work that needs to be done to get them ready for re-homing and here's just one of the wonderful dogs they've been looking after [Music] this is Sophie he's a three-year-old staffy cross and he's been here at the center and she's just there for five months now first we just couldn't understand why he was called Trophy and but he's literally got the tiniest patch of white gun right along his knees it's ready steady he is very energetic obviously being a young staffy is it yeah he loves his walks he takes it all in so he sniffs everything and he just really enjoys being out and seeing new things he's looking for a home with someone that can just sort of give him a nice stretch of routine people need to be the only dog in the house just wants to sort of have all the love and affection to himself seeing strophy go home and make me the happiest person on a thank you hello and welcome to the dog Rescuers today we're following remarkable stories of the resilience and spirit of our canine companions like that show by Teddy here come on Teddy let's have a sit we've earned it come on Teddy was an Ewok in the Star Wars films we'll also see the wonderful work of those who rescue dogs and the painstaking care and patience it can take to bring a dog back from the brink coming up after an emotional goodbye to a loved pet whose owner can't look after her anymore oh my god oh it's dead South isn't it I feel awful because she's going to be like searching for orders tonight yeah she will yeah inspector Anthony joins helps deaf staffy cross Isla begin a new life this is the first day really of it of the rest of her life inspector Hershey Bowl deals with the aftermath of the biggest number of dogs being rescued from one house we've ever featured we would move the washing machine and suddenly there'd be six faces looking at you it was just incredible where they were able to hide and we hear the extraordinary story of rescue dog teddy who helped bring his owner back to life in a way I think he's my guardian angel mate hey my guardian angel in disguise you are [Music] first we're on the Wirral we're inspector Anthony joins is visiting a family who can't look after their five-year-old staffy cross Isla anymore the owner's health is deteriorated quite quite a lot and they decide of the family quite reluctantly that they want to sign dug over they don't want sign the dog over actually they've decided that if they kept the dog it would be from selfish reasons that they basically said we can't meet her needs she's a young staffy type um staffy cross you know full of energy wants to go out and play and they can basically offer it the backyard as well as being a playful dog who isn't getting the exercise she needs Isla has another problem too we quite quickly realize that we think she's pretty much 100 deaf full breeds are predisposed to have in deafness as a breed although giving her up is the right decision for this family they aren't finding it easy you're right oh I know you wouldn't be what's that sad isn't it I'm a charity worker that's what I am I'm a uniform charity worker tonight yeah she will yeah I know you probably feel like you've let her down but a bit but you haven't I don't think you have at all I think you've come to the right decisions I feel that we we genuinely make a difference on at numerous fronts they'll make a really comfortable life and I'll make sure that she has a good proper good run yeah because it takes the edge off them then yeah no problem [Music] head over here the rug take care [Music] oh so this is Isla hey girl to keep reminding myself that she's well we suspect she's deaf so I'm sort of saying hey hey girl she's like say this there's not she doesn't really respond white dogs carry the pie ball Gene which can make them predisposed to being deaf in it look s good yeah well done thanks to the Animal Center and get a get us all settled in she needs a good run and obviously my job is and it makes me feel more content about taking you know the dog from its family and I'm starting that process again is she needs to feel that the Animal Center is a positive thing so I try and make sure that she'll see that bar giving her a nice run around loads of treats put them in everything with loads of toys and a nice comfy bed and hopefully she'll realize that it's it's not this isn't a sad thing it's beautiful hey okay good girl Anthony's passenger is definitely curious about what's going on [Music] oh I go you can hear it it's got It's a little bit humorous but it's quite subtle actually because if she is deaf she's not gonna be able to she's not gonna be able to hear the vocalization she's making so that's why it sounds quite different to most dogs that I've ever come across really but she's probably a little bit stressed and no doubt because you know I've just come and taken it from from her home and she's in it she's now in the back of a van so we'll try and make it as As Nice and least stressful as possible for her today get us settled in as soon as we can [Music] sick that's a good sign isn't it you can put this on you it's important Isla's ears are examined by effect but she's got other ideas come on we'll have a good one in a minute I promise you Isla she's got chronic ear problems yeah Becca McAlpine takes a look and as well as being deaf there are signs of infections yeah it is a really thicken you can see all the scarring from where she's had lots of infections in the past sometimes they get blood collecting from scratching at their ears so much and then it scars down like this I think she's had some oral hematomas in the past and they're very pink you're a good girl you're being very brave she's got good teeth yeah she's very sweet she's lovely yes and so what would she need you probably give her some drops to treat the infection side and then we'll sort of keep an eye on if she's scratching Lots then we'll pop her on some steroids as well that might help open up her ear canals a little bit oh Anthony takes it to the kennels and it's the time iron has been waiting for lovely smells a big run around hey hi girl it's a learning care for me as well I mean even in the Vets I went to give a little tap on the bun because she she loves being scratched and she jumped out of her skin and then I'm thinking you know it's almost like training the human to to learn how to deal with the dog and and that's what it will be in terms of new owners as well just making sure that they're fully briefed time for Anthony to say goodbye a little bit sad don't want to come in and sit with them in the kennels like this on the first day you know there's the dog at the end of the day is she gonna think that I've done of a favor probably not she's going to be a bit stressed now in a bit anxious but um you know she'll get real good care from the staff and the volunteers at the center you know they'll be they'll be checking on her throughout the day she'll have regular walks um which is obviously you know what dogs live for really and what she hasn't had for weeks he's a very loving dog actually and she likes a lot of um cuddles and interaction I hope that her tiny is really short and gets me home really quickly all right girl I'm gonna go now she can't hear me find out what happens to this lovable softie and her ears later on [Applause] [Music] every so often an inspector deals with a truly shocking case and that's just what happened 48 hours ago to Hershey Bowl she was called by the police to a house after a woman died suddenly leaving behind what they estimated to be 40 dogs but when Hershey arrived it was clear she was facing one of the toughest cases of her career multiple dog households are very challenging you're acutely aware that you're dealing with a large amount of dogs and anything can happen and with this job I had no idea how many dogs I was taking out they literally started appearing from absolutely everywhere we would move the washing machine and suddenly there'd be six faces looking at you and it was just incredible where they were you know they were able to hide the surviving owner was devastated at his wife's passing and with so many dogs in one house it was clear they needed to be removed these dogs had never left the premises they were almost like feral dogs in a way you know they didn't want to be handled they were extremely frightened you know that it was a very very difficult situation after 18 hours her she had finally accounted for all of the dogs after a headcount dogs attend you know dogs as well you you know there's nothing you can do but do that as quickly as you can but also be aware that you've got to think about the welfare of those dogs what you're doing is essentially doing something that takes a long time but you're doing it 82 times and it's a huge challenge these are not pieces of paperwork or items of sort of electronic equipment that you're removing these are living things and they're scared and they're frightened there's a whole load of animals then relies upon you on that day it's extremely difficult 82 dogs were loaded into 20 cages and transported in four vans to kennels where trained staff could assess their condition and temperament today the ones identified as needing immediate Veterinary attention are being examined by Mark Barton and the one they are most concerned about is this fella this is little as91 little boy sweetie it's a lot worse than it was initially yeah when we first saw it was the the wound on the on the ear flap the Pinner um this bit here is it's likely to be dead um and likely to be have to be removed at some point when we get the infection under control right yesterday morning there was a small patch um underneath his coat and and when we started to clip it we realized that it was a a much larger patch of of dead aquatic skin with it's quite a large amount of of infection underneath right blessing it must be quite sore it's been very brave so I imagine that um he's under pain relief now yes he is uh he's had antibiotics anti-inflammatory pain and Pain Relief um to help with that we're also applying Burns cream Mark believes the wound was probably caused very recently by spilled boiling water and with so many dogs in the house it's very possible the owner didn't even realize the accident had happened just shows that you can't care for them properly if you've got a number of dogs um things that look look quite minor and quite benign can end up in quite serious injuries this poor dog must be in real pain so Marcus called in Stephen barabus to use a pioneering technique to help speed up his recovery the laser will get rid of some of the infection in this what it might do though is you might lose the tip of that ear quicker because if that is dead it's going to accelerate that process okay we can do the wound first yeah and then we'll do the air and just just see how he tolerates it okay okay fine the laser itself uses infrared right so you need to use goggles now the infrared beams are going to go and increase blood flow right oxygenation and also the tissue metabolism so it does things which are happening anyway it just accelerates it for the dog then that's this isn't obviously a painful treatment it doesn't feel anything that is not aware it will be a little warm but it would be like having a hot bean bag put on its side the machine calibrates the size of the dog and the area of the wound and calculates how long the infrared session needs to be it's a five and a half minute session so I'm doing quite a long session for it but it's quite an extensive wound right and so I'm going to treat this like a grid pattern I'm just going to work my way across the whole of it not have to keep it in contact okay so is your constant moving making sure it doesn't get too hot then as well it's partly down to that and partly because I want to cover the whole of the wound non-invasive the infrared is actually penetrating pretty deep down to the tissue so it's not just working laterally around the sides of the wound yeah it's starting to look redder indeed you can see it you can actually see it weeping a little bit already right and it will actually look a bit more active as it starts to stimulate that wound so you're you're almost sort of um forcing it to heal quicker absolutely right yeah it's actually been falling asleep so it just goes to show that it's not very invasive Steve will also use the laser to treat the damaged ear oh quite painful are you yeah especially when we're going on the edges where the two different bits of tissue are you reacts quite a lot oh you were good the treatment will be regularly repeated and it should help speed up the little guy's recovery you'll see how he does later on [Music] now a dog's ears might not be something you think about very often but they are more than just funnels for sound they're in fact very cleverly designed part of a dog's Anatomy here to tell me more about them is sound games Hello um yeah so dogs hearing has a wider frequency range than what ours does and it's a lot more sensitive so it means that they can hear higher frequency sounds than those that are ultrasonic they've also um got a lot more muscles in their ears than what we do which means that they can move both together and also independently and so that's great it helps us to understand what they're feeling and for us to be able to recognize their emotions so in general if a dog's ears are laid flat back against their head it will mean that they're feeling scared or a little bit anxious but if like Teddy here they're in a normal nice neutral position then he's probably feeling quite relaxed and happy in content some dogs will have longer droop years so for example like spaniels and that can be a little bit more difficult to tell how they're feeling compared to say for example a German Shepherd that would have really upright um ears so it is important that we look not just at ears but also other parts of their body which will give us a good understanding of how their feelings are looking at where their tail is and also like their animal body position and if they're looking quite relaxed Teddy's permanent he is very relaxed isn't he and he is a good example of having a little bit droopier ears but he's a nice relaxed dog unfortunately one dog whose ears are giving them some problems is poor staffy cross piler five-year-old Isla is deaf she also suffers from chronic ear infections which are painful and uncomfortable although she's been having regular ear drops she's not been enjoying it so she's come back to vet Becky and nurse Jan who are going to try another approach [Music] let's go girl so we're gonna put in a long-acting drop today and then we'll put in another one in a week's time rather than do drops with it every day it should be a bit more comfortable that way and hopefully her ears will clean up nice and fast Becky needs to give Isla's ears a thorough clean this has to be done under anesthetic because a dog's ear canal is L-shaped and getting right to the bottom of it can be painful there you go nice deep breath higher when they've got lots of wax buildup in their ears it makes them really itchy and uncomfortable so if we get all the wax and all the gun count and there should be a lot more comfortable for Isla and also it means that the drops are going to be able to work a lot better it doesn't take long for her to conk out check that her um her tympanic membranes so her eardrum is intact cheers that's good so there's just lots of wax down there and it's quite red and sore so we'll give them a good clean [Music] first it's in with some sterile saline [Music] give it a good massage you know you've gone far enough when you can hear it squelching [Music] it's probably been going on for a while just because her ears are really um thickened and slightly deformed so that would suggest that she's had ongoing problems for quite some time sort of months if not longer another little look down now there's still some particles deep down inside Isla's ear canal I'm just going to get some forceps that are really long that I can feed through the otoscope and grab any chunks that are low down but Isla's ear canal is too inflamed from all her old infections so Becky tries something different so I'm gonna flush it instead to try and get the debris to come to the top twenty percent of dogs have at least one ear infection in their life and it's one of the most common reasons a dog goes to the vets they can be caused by allergies parasites yeast and bacteria infections or a hormone imbalance if you suspect your dog has a problem with their ears take them to the vet as soon as possible so we're just putting some sterile water down under a bit of pressure to help break any little last clogs off at the bottom and then bring them all back out through the soft catheter we've put down get any bits and Bobs in there yeah now the ears have had a proper clean she can have her drops so this is um a long-acting drop thick gel that sits in the ear canal it's quite good for the dogs that don't like having their ears cleaned or drops put in we'll do one today and then she'll have another syringe put in in a week's time and hopefully that will solve her ear problems okay I just want to add them flip her over and do the same with oil is left here [Music] looks better that looks nice and clean now so we've got all the excess wax out of the ear canal so I'll pop the other drops in and then hopefully I should be feeling a lot more comfy although she might feel a bit sore initially just from us digging around and getting everything out we can't irritate the ear a little bit which is why we only do it if we have to really is something that she might have problems with in the long term just because her ears have got so changed as a result of all the infections her ear canal is very narrow and thickened now so it's going to make a lot more prone to pick up other ones but as long as you sort of keep an eye on it should be able to keep on top of it and you can win first yeah she'll come back in a week's time to have a second set of drops put in but now Isla is popped back into the kennel to recuperate oh triple blanket jam oh I want to be in there yeah have a little snooze [Music] coming up we find out how one of the 82 Chihuahuas Hershey Bowl rescued has a real fear of people it is it is incredibly scary for him and it's so bad it may mean he can't be re-homed if this plan of mind doesn't work then then Reggie will have to be put to sleep and obviously that is something that we desperately want to avoid we hear the incredible story of rescue dog teddy who helped bring his owner Andy out of a coma bit him on my chest and he woke me up so save me again you're my best friend Miami I never look back since have we and see how lovable softy Aina who's deaf responds to some sign language training I think she's more loving I think I should get that kind of attention I don't think she's had that in a previous home whether you probably be a death [Applause] [Music] five-year-old staffy cross Isla is deaf before she's re-homed animal care assistant Joe Barrett will be training her to understand sign language even though she's deaf she's she's quite a relaxed dog you took off for walks and stuff you'd have to be extra careful because obviously can't hear traffic and things that would be main concern it's important that she learns how to follow basic visual commands to keep her safe and stop her feeling so isolated the first trick is to always keep eye contact with Isla yeah I'd like to see me obviously because she can't hear Joe then says the command and you clear visible hand signal come sit stale B stay the command 4 down is down [Music] sit then positive reinforcement Isla is rewarded with a treat every time she gets it right [Music] and it turns out this softie prefers a cuddle to edible treats she knows that you know she'd come to get rewards and we should do it with shrinks as well but I think she prefers this to be honest just a favorite thing because they can't hear I think they you know feel in different ways although you can buy vibrating collars for deaf dogs they can be uncomfortable and are not recommended so learning a sign language is an effective alternative and with consistent training dogs can pick up visual cues after just a few weeks once you first came in she didn't know anything at all we've started using come and I call at the same time and she comes over we will start to work up to like sit and stay but it will take a couple more weeks because she's only got used to that if you think your dog may be deaf a vet can do a Bayer test which detects the electrical activity in the brain and responds to different sounds I think she made a lot of progress because really been about three weeks now like I said before she hasn't done before ever that's quite good okay Joe and the team will need to repeat the training three times a day for the next few weeks before Isla has fully mastered her new language does get the hang of it it should stop her feeling isolated and alone all the dogs we're getting here are all challenging even though she's deaf I don't think she's any more challenging than other dogs to her you know to train harriers are doing much better too since she had them deep cleaned since the ears have been treated should get more confident I think they were very painful initially as you can see she's she's quite relaxed now that's what she likes all day Joe will be doing a lot of work with the new owners from making sure Isla stays on the lead in open areas so she doesn't run into dangers to teaching them the new hand signs we'll show what we've done we'll keep it quite basic because we don't want us to get confused I think that they're quite easy commands to show to people once they get the hang of doing it it'll become quite natural to them we'll catch up with them later to see how she's getting on it's been less than a month since Hershey Bowl rescued 82 chihuahuas one of the little dogs had an infected ear that looked like it would drop off and a large painful wound covering nearly all of his side he's been undergoing some Innovative laser treatment and after just three weeks the transformation is amazing here he is wow that's healed really well yeah so before you can see some of the scarring left it was a patch yeah probably this sort of area no he's got some scarring here but it's all about healed um not painful no that's great it's weeping it was um there was dead skin on top of it there was the infection and he looks like battery's starting to get some of his some of his hair grows back he may not get any hair growth on this pink area there I suspect he'll be scarred there okay but it may it may reduce a little bit further um we don't know we just have to wait and see so the ear then that's um the year before it's black it was black across the end of the tip so he's got a bit moth eaten and but actually it's all but healed and he's uh at least he has not to have surgery or we thought he'd need surgery when I last spoke to you and now he's having pain relief his mood has definitely improved too he's been a much happier boy since been here he's going out he's starting to to play and mess about more since he's been here a lot more comfortable since his wounds are all uh all largely healed which is a which is a good sign really for his um rehoming future because he's a very sweet dog he's a very sweet dog he's lovely he's been uh no trouble at all oh that's good that's good to know well number 81 we'll have to give you a name at some point soon it can't be number 81 forever we'll find out we've got a new name and a new family later on very cute [Music] it took five months but staff have done a fantastic job at finding nearly all the chihuahuas new homes but there's one who's been causing them a real headache really difficult to handle through no fault of his own obviously he's just a dog that is so attached to his owner I think we can't do anything with him he simply won't let anyone get near him he will howl and bark and will virtually scream at anyone that comes near him it's common for dogs who live in big numbers to group together and become fearful of people the animal home that Reggie's at the moment has has tried all the usual methods it is an extremely difficult situation for the staff you know they're heartbroken by the fact that they can't touch this dog supervisor Lee Mayer has been trying to look after him Reggie's in the end section at the minute because it's it's the quiet Zone he's been in there quite a few weeks we had to move him because he was getting really really stressed in the other section the day he came in I think he was in a pub with four of the dogs and they seem to be okay together but obviously the situation changed as he started to guard the other little dog in the kennel quite badly um to the point where he was lunging at kennel staff and being very aggressive to the point where we couldn't even handle the other dog which is which was really friendly yeah so unfortunately we had to split the little dog away from him and and he ended up on his own as well as permanently growling Reggie won't be stroked wear a lead or eat in front of Staff either if he continues like this his chances of finding a new home and not looking good okay I'll come with you then and we'll have a look at him and see what he does yeah at the minute there's a blanket on the top of his kennel right okay and that's just again to Sheltering from the noise and people going past and things like that it keeps them a lot calmer right okay sorry [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's quite a confused reaction because his tail is like his Tail's wagging at the same time yeah it is pure fear it's just absolutely petrified it was never socialized it never went out the house so all this is he's incredibly scary for him most of the time he will choose to move away yeah but obviously the difficulty we've had with him is when you actually enter the kennel he goes into another another Zone almost you'll eat when you're away as well which is another Fair Behavior yeah he doesn't trust he just doesn't trust anyone trust people he's physically healthy he's just not mentally healthy at the moment and that's what you know that's the that's harder to work on we've got to sort of try and make sure that this dog understands that you know we mean no harm we go drastic times call for drastic measures there is one last hope for Reggie to see if the husband of his original owner who died will take him back so the decision has been made that the best option for this dog is to return him to his owner if the plan of mine doesn't work then then Reggie will have to be put to sleep and obviously that is something that we desperately want to avoid poor Reggie find out later if Hershey's Last Resort is going to work now Teddy is a five-year-old Schnauzer poodle cross who in my opinion is one of the most miraculous dogs we've ever featured come on then you see them squirrels now are we go see it man where are they then go find him then quick Teddy has been living with Andy says ad since he was adopted from his local rescue center five years ago when I first saw said he was a little black bundle of fluff he was about 12 inches long 15 weeks old didn't know I didn't know what grass was then they were out of climb stairs but didn't know what anything was really I don't think and he turned out to be a fantastic little Doodle doggy didn't he may hey my best friend always happy always glad to see me and yeah and I wouldn't be without him for all the money in the world shortly after getting Teddy Andy was diagnosed with cancer just after I got dead and all my bail taken out and without this little man getting me Fair after his only other made it you're my boy he gave me the encouragement and second for a walk three or four times a day we got further and further than we may taught you all the tricks where he was at home with him for 26 weeks oh you clever boy you are I think you never left my side since have you May formed a really close Bond but then in December Andy was taken ill again I went to this stage to see my mum she wasn't very well when I came back I developed pneumonia and influenza Ray at the same time so they had to put me into a coma I had seven pictures of him on the wall one of my sons and one of my wife after he'd spent four days in a coma and his wife our staff if she could bring Teddy in for a visit and then she put him on my chest and he woke me up so save me again in a way I think he's my guardian angel hey my guardian angel in disguise you huh after five days of recovery in hospital he was finally well enough to come home but news of his miraculous recovery quickly spread and soon Andy received a call from the rspca who wanted to honor Teddy with a special award at a ceremony in London on the snazzy bow tie to your bow tie your train ticket and we may hey and you even got a big bag of goodies to come back with when I went up to get the nerve award I was very nervous and um one of our team would be whether he'd be favored or the people and that but he wasn't phased just got to say a big thank you to the rspca and the wonderful work they do with little characters like this in well they're just amazing friends were just fantastic fantastic day out Andy believes Teddy could be just the medicine for others too I hope to retire next year and as a payback to the hospital and all the staff and the wonderful work they do I want to see if I can get Jade to be a therapy dog to go in the hospital two or three days a week to cheer other people a good idea is to see the animal in there and a wonder is a wonderful thing it always makes you feel better so we go give some payback today I mean if ever anyone asked me about getting a rescue dog wouldn't hesitate these wonderful little dogs who've been mistreated and looked after but they give you so much back well worth our anime what a great ending for Teddy and Andy coming up terrified Reggie reacts to returning home he was virtually unhandleable when you actually enter the kennel it does go into that attack mode almost semi-wild he would freak out if we went anywhere near him and see how deaf Isla is responding to her sign language training she's more loving I think I should get that kind of attention I don't think she's had that in a previous home with the rather be a deaf and if you think you've got what it takes to be a dog rescuer we might just have the one for you [Applause] earlier we saw how a pioneering laser technique had helped heal a painful burn on the side of number 81 one of the dog's Hershey Bowl rescued from the house overflowing with Chihuahuas I'd love to give you a name at some point soon it can't be number 81 forever well he is now called Toby his wound is much better and he's with his new forever family the inklins [Music] good on you Toby [Music] Reggie is another of the 82 dogs Hershey Bowl rescued from a house after one of their owners suddenly died but he's been impossible to handle it is pure fear and he's just absolutely petrified he was virtually unhandleable when you actually enter the kennel does go into that attack mode now because he thinks that's the first line of defense almost sort of semi-wild he would freak out if we went anywhere near him it was a very very very upsetting thing to watch her she has found one person with whom Reggie behaves completely differently the husband of the owner who passed away Stephen Bayless it wasn't Steven's intention to ever have this many dogs his wife just couldn't bring herself to let them go and when they were puppies and they were born in the property she got very attached to them and then would keep them she wasn't selling them she wasn't deliberately breeding them it was just sort of happening they weren't making any money from this once puppies were born she just didn't have the heart to let them go she didn't want to re-home them since then Hershey has been working with Stephen to re-home the 82 Chihuahuas there are four who would like to take back Tinkerbell and blue who were his first dogs and who the 80 other dogs are all descended from so I'll let look at you jockey brilliant and of course Reggie the owner has managed to sort out the property completely made a massive transformation in fact the biggest transformation that I've ever seen in a property in 17 years I honestly did think you know in my darkest moments with this case and and with these dogs there really was in my mind a an absolute possibility that Reggie was going to have to be put to sleep and and that was my biggest fear so I am extremely relieved thank you it's been five months since these guys were taken away [Music] good brilliant nice to see you I've got all four of them yeah they'll be very happy hello first it's out with Tinkerbell and blue right if you want to grab her first come on you grab her first and I'll grab them because they're better off and I'll grab blue hello monkeys oh let's take you into your news you're next oh see that's why you're gonna pick him up not me yeah come on then come on hey little boy oh Reggie right I'll let you come on Charlene come on rich boy yeah Reggie is finally back where he's always wanted to be right so happy you know they're in this lovely home and they're all going to do wonderfully look he's quite happily running around with them he's not he's not at all bothered they can smell the whole pile of toys in there isn't there look at him so for Joy oh look look at him he's so happy to be back well you know where I am if you need anything yeah thank you no you're welcome you're welcome and I appreciate your time yeah okay bye girls and boys bye oh so thank you good girl it's an amazing transformation from the yappy unfriendly dog he's been for the last few months now the end of of this whole case for me and I'm extremely happy that it's um that it's gone really well and that the dogs are happy and settled [Music] five-year-old staffy cross Isla is deaf she's been learning sign language at the animal center on the Wirral for a few weeks now and she's responding really well she's been doing a lot more training as you can see she will come now and sits that's it so she knows that's come and now I don't really say the words now just she kind of responds to my hand signals okay and it's really boosted Isla's confidence do you like he likes more loving that in a previous home would rather be a deaf I think she's just being left I think she'll make a lovely pet she's so affectionate and so loving I think she craves a family unit well that's just what she's found in the Jones family who forever hope where she's getting cuddles left right and Center well done Isla [Applause] [Music] as you've seen in the program many rescue dogs don't have the best start in life but that doesn't mean that they can't make Incredible Pets the rspca care for thousands of them and there's often lots of work that needs to be done to get them ready for re-homing and here's just one of the wonderful dogs they've been looking after [Music] [Laughter] been with us now at Southridge for over six months Harry um was re-homed by his previous owner six years ago unfortunately their circumstances changed and he got returned to us so now he's looking for his special forever home [Music] Harry has found kennel life very stressful he finds being around the other dogs makes him very anxious I feel very sad for him that he's not found he's special forever home yet um he's been waiting a long time he's an older boy and he really just deserves that second chance to be cuddled and loved so the home we're looking for for Harry being adult only home because it's nice and quiet for him also I think he would really like to be the only pet in the home so he can get all the attention for himself Harry really deserves his forever home because he's really struggling in kennels he's been here a very long time and he's got a lot of love to give [Music] so if you're looking for a four-legged best friend in your life remember to make your local rescue center your first stop where you'll find plenty of deserving candidates desperate to brighten up your home next time on the dog Rescuers one of the biggest dogs I've ever picked up inspector Anthony joins meets his match when he rescues a rather large Rock filer I know I'm only really skinny so I think he weighs about the same to me it's a sad goodbye for the owner of an elderly Akita called bear so now I'm trying to repair your phone for doing what's best for her I'll see you later bear and I'll be finding out how Oliver's incredible nose has transformed someone's life [Music] [Music]
