River from beautiful Lincoln Landing here Lake Logan Martin I have ice in my beard that's real life I do I have ice in my beard that's a first and we're going to go uh we're going to check in Miss Kay who does not have ice in the trailer right now Miss Kay my nose is snotty my eyes are watering and there's a lot of frost in my beard I'm going to throw it back to you welcome back inside the Alabama Bass Trail live studio where it is a baly 53 degrees here in the live studio these guys give me a lot of hard time about being inside the studio but the door does open several times a day so it doesn't always stay 72 degrees in here so just want to clear that up just a little bit I do want to thank am first uh America's First Federal Credit Union for being the host of our live this year here on the 2024 season of not only the Alabama Bass Trail 100 but the Alabama Bass Trail uh we are looking forward to a big year here on the trail uh this tournament is setting up to be one of the toughest that we've seen based on conditions and Luke you're going to hear the guys talk about that out on the water not only just the conditions but who can stay in this tournament mentally and not let the weather spin them out that's going to be very very important if you're not familiar with Logan Martin it is a just over 15,000 Acres you are looking at a beautiful drone shot there of Lincoln Landing you're looking at a surface or air temp at 14° at blastoff water temp is right at 43° we're looking for highs in the mid 40s today we're hoping that we're going to get just above uh freezing around 10 to 10:15 today so if the guys can get to to freezing then they think they've got it one so maybe you know keeping their head on and and keeping between the ears clear um those first couple hours is going to be key here today again Logan Martin lake is one of the lakes on the Alabama Bass where we see tons of limits weigh in that may not be the case today uh temperatures and and actually the the weather through the entire state of Alabama has been a polar vortex where I traveled from on Thursday we had three inches of ice on our roads so we have seen temperatures go from 8 in the morning to uh around 25 in the afternoon today we had uh we're expecting over 45 degrees be the warmest day we've had this week so we're looking forward to that so I did want to just kind of mention a little bit about the lake uh it is 275 uh 275 mies of Shoreline here the lake is actually 49 miles long a little bit smaller body of water than what you see for a regular Alabama Bass Trail but we will be back here in April I think it's April the 13th with a 225 boat tournament going to be a lot of fun there uh Logan Martin typically full pools around 465 check this morning it's at 46 186 so you're going to see a lot more exposed Bank than what you're going to see when you get uh here in April so we're looking forward to this tournament we do have a 100 teams registered for this event back in June it only took 11 days to sell it out we have teams from 11 states Alabama Georgia Florida Mississippi Illinois South Carolina Louisiana um lots of uh guys out here Missouri uh Indiana we have some representatives from those States as well uh the Alabama Bass TR was really born to bring people into the state introduce them to the great fishing here in the state of Alabama and hopefully they'll come back in their recreational angling so just want to let you guys know we are fishing for over $100,000 today someone's going to go home with possibly up to $35,000 this afternoon on a $11,000 entry fee and a single day tournament so that's going to be a a lot of fun to see who's going to walk away with that the Anglers are looking for largemouth and spotted bass that measure 12 in or bigger uh we always measure our fish mouth closed Tail fan and swipe to achieve the greatest length so that is the logistics of the Alabama Bass Trail you heard Luke announce 100 boats once I get the photo from boat check I'll let you know how many teams actually went out on the water today we knew a four or five that was not going to make the tournament this tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday June January the 20th got postponed due to some really severe cold weather uh we didn't we barely got over freezing yesterday and we're going to even though it was colder at blastoff this morning it's going to warm up really nicely today so we're looking forward to that teams that you might want to watch here we talked about some of them um Luke did when he was making the announcements Kelly Jay lanir Burton they won back here in May of last year they uh lenir has a lot of information on this Lake got a lot of time on this Lake you've got a Bassmaster Elite Series angler that was angler of the Year Scott canterberry his partner Terry Stevens you want to watch out for that team uh Kyle Dorset Justin Atkins another BAS master elite guy out here uh fishing with us you also have H bass master Elite Series Justin Hamner that'll be out there as well with his partner Wade Mullis and then uh there's some other local guys we mentioned the mark mck Tim Hurst Damen Willis and Mark Stewart I remember when those guys first started fishing the trail they were a team together and and now Damen fishes with Tyler Kiker on the regular series uh Josh chapel and Paul Davis another local team uh heavily favored here and some names you might recognized from back in the day that has been very successful on this Lake as well as many other Lakes Allen glasow and George Crane so there's a lot of oldies but goodies that come from the Alabama Bast TR but there's a lot of new faces out there this year too so we're going to get out in the water just as soon as possible and let you guys see all the action as it unfolds here on Logan Martin I do want to let you know we'll be going to commercial breaks about every hour to give our guys a break let them reposition get in different areas of the lake and also give give a word to our sponsors because we could not do what we do without our sponsors uh we have a a laundry list of those guys I know we mentioned Phoenix uh as you saw Luke Duncan he's going to be your official MC he's going to be one of your on the water analyst as well as Daren Craig who will be doing your TV uh interviews off stage and then you've got the old trusty J Jason Duran that's coming back I think for this fourth or fifth year here as an analyst here on the Alabama Bass Trail so hopefully we'll have a action-packed morning for you we will be coming off the water about 11:30 today uh to be able to get our guys back in camera's charged and ready for the 3:30 weigh in uh we did push the blast off 30 minutes this morning just in an effort to give us the warmest temperature possible for blastoff and so we were lucky enough we were able to give the guys the 30 extra minutes during the day to fish as well so uh that's kind of where we are we did postpone from Saturday to Sunday but we are live uh we have people out on the water I know Darion is is setting up on a team um so we're going to we're going to try to get out there to Darion and see kind of what that ride was like this morning to see if he's well and awake now Daren I see that you're on camera now how was that ride this morning well luckily look we've got a great boat driver and uh look it's cold I'm not going to lie but we just idled honestly and we've got a designated area where we were supposed to run to but we made an executive decision there's several boats that have already stopped in this one area right near the uh Town and Country area look we made it we made a very smart uh I don't know what you want to call this weather decision which is just take it slow this morning give it give it a a little time to everything get going uh our our fingers aren't even working yet uh got a coffee in us about to get things going but yeah we've got a boat that just pulled up on this point behind us we're going to they're probably 100 yards away so we can't really tell what's going on just quite yet but look those guys even after their run they just sat there they didn't get up they sat for about 10 minutes and I think I don't know if they prayed or what they were doing but they just had to get warm so uh we're freezing you can probably see that I heard somebody say 14° earlier it even feels colder than that but uh very exciting I think one thing to look forward to is like we've heard um it's cold for everybody so not you know you have to be mentally tough to this one and uh you know fish your strength in the cold and fish slow I would bet a jerk bait's going to do some damage today I bet a Shad wrap's going to do some damage today and uh a dt6 old trick get some sandpaper and get that the the the shine taken down off the side of that dt6 some old school tricks but uh I bet there's some old school fishing going on today going to be excited to see we're going to hop over to this boat and see if we can get some fishing going on is there anybody else live is Luke Duncan ready or is he still on the is he still on the blastoff boat Luke is not on the blastoff boat he is getting ready to uh get out on the water you know as always when we get ready to go live my phone starts ringing Anglers are out on the water either uh I know that that means something's going on so I wanted to make sure that John got that message right away uh sometimes the Anglers forget that I'm live so they call me instead of John so I was making sure he got that message uh I do see that Jason is getting set up on an angler I know darian's fixing to get set up on an angler I do want to remind you we're going to be here throughout the morning till 11:30 if you are going to be coming out to Lincoln Landing today please make sure you bring your lawn chairs U maybe your little buddy heater and a blanket uh there are no there's no bleachers here but there are several uh picnic tables that you can sit at while we do the we in it'll go really fast 3:30 is the time that the first flight is due in the first fish should come across the stage about was one boat here and then three more showed up so that's normal though so just uh keep casting yes sir y'all spend much time practicing pardon practice how'd y'all do in practice had a couple good days and then struggle most of the time yeah had a couple Fair sacks during practice what kind of weight y'all looking for today be happy if we get 10 lb 10 lb 10 12 I think that would be good today Alabama best trail 100 day one here we go first of the year we do uh made a run this morning up to uh chakalaka Creek's where we are so it's pretty obvious where we are it's not that hard to tell um it was a chilly chilly run um it a lot of guys weren't running wide open obviously I don't I would love for somebody to calculate what 14° FS wind chill at 55 M hour so cold that would uh besides cold for sure as the camera camera lady says it um any Exposed Skin today is not a good thing we're looking at 1 two three four five about six boats sitting around us right here so we're going to uh kind of be in the area to film with them so uh we're going to hang out with boat 25 for just a second but we got other guys around we're right here at the first Bridge so cold start this morning but man it is going to be some fishing for sure if not casting all day long working hard these guys have put in the effort put in the money and uh looking to take home the check today so here we go we are official for 2024 C might have fish cats here our first catch for 2024 Alabama Bass Trail 100 goes to boat number 25 Troy simbeck and Terry mccormic we put that one in the Live Well that is the first catch for 2024 guys that's what we're going for right we hope we he don't last in there but it's a good start the fishing catching is way more than just chasing them all day that's a good deal guys good start let's take a replay here and look at this catch real quick boat number 25 you know we're just kind of fishing along a little draw down right here um the water is down a good bit today and you see he just has a good little short catch and uh caught it real short right at the boat swings it in lands it really good so that's all we want to see we want to see Fish catches today that's what we're here for these guys are like to working some prank baits we do have a lot of clay Banks here a lot of clay points a lot of rock so cold weather weather conditions you know fish are going to be slow so really trying to run the bait right in front of them everything on here throws up you know when the air temperature's down to low freeezing water temperature today is we're sitting at you know right at 39° and we're uh big important thing is when the wind blows by your lines up out of the water so as you kind of reel in you're drawing up that line you see them bumping that rine there it's guides are freezing up so the guides on the rod start to freeze up because they're bringing in Frost and then those guides will feel fill up the frost and fill up with ice and you really have to bump it off and you stick it down in the water to defrost it for a little bit or some kind of use silicone spray and equipment today is going to be a big factor the weather is one thing but equipment really just work hard and take their time today to put together a limit we're going to slide up here to the next boat try to get us a little bit more action these guys are catching so maybe we move up a little bit we catch some more guys catching like I said we're here in chakalaka Creek we made the short run not too far um definitely a cold run this morning um a lot of teams kind of made the area here and kind of shot back up in the in the creek water is pretty stained we have had obviously a lot of uh weather moved through the area you know we've had snow up in Tennessee we had uh some rain freezing rain ice everything you can imagine this week we have dealt with uh these guys have put in the hard work today to to get them here and not give up but to head down the fish today what's the boat number guys 4 45 45 Derek Hicks and Alex Davis well guys y'all made it we got the boat launch and we got here yeah that was the goal today right that was already I see the Buddy Heater down there it'll be used soon I'll uh come back by and visit with y'all if I get too cold for sure how was practice what' y'all do oh we I only fished one day he fished a couple two days and it wasn't great yeah CAU a couple couple bites will probably go a long way from a mental that's what I was going to say mentally just helps prepare you yeah really the cold is more of a distraction than anything yeah hard to cast keep blowing out your reel I saw you blowing out your reel we were just talking about that how how do you deal with that all day long just fighting with it's pain keep blowing it out complain about it yeah w complain I hear you well Daren I heard you say earlier that uh you guys made the short little idle over to your spot well uh I just want to tell you we ran at 55 miles an hour and I don't know what the windshield is at 55 mes an hour but uh it's cold and I'm kind of jealous this morning that you were able to ride in the heated truck all the way down to your little spot and get all set up hey when you got a fire on the bank next what you going to tell me come on in not only did we ride in we rode in the truck all the way down we made a little short idle but also Mr Allan Hayes his wife made us a breakfast casserole uh for right here in just a second the next time we get a little break yeah I got warm breakfast casserole buddy and I've got a uh a thermos of coffee he said as he's got Black Rifle coffee in a thermos that's free of charge soal tell you but we did make a little Idol out to the mouth of this Creek and there's been several guys pulling right here as we've uh as you got started but um just seing a little little red cranking a little a little jerking and a little jigging a little slow fishing um but one thing you know on Logan Martin obviously there's a lot of these banks are real flat Banks and so when a gu's in with this winter draw down a guy going down the bank and you see them stop and make a cast kind of off into the middle of the lake area well there's probably something out there those banks are real flat so there's a lot of brush and a lot of smaller rock piles or a little bitty humps off the bank and so I think that's one thing we'll see throughout the day is they could be going down the bank but kind of turn around and make a cast out towards the middle of Lake where there's some sort of high spot whether it's a brush pile or a rock pile or a hump or something so we've seen that a couple times they're working this Bank a couple I'd say cast and a half off the bank and then you know there they've got whatever way points they've got marked off of the standard cast at the bank they're kind of turn around and making something so using a little Liv scope this morning they haven't caught one yet but honestly this what this kind of so early in the morning you don't even want to catch one yet it's it's so cold you don't want to have to put your hands out in the water it's it's that cold so we've um like you said or like Jason said the there has been some color on the lake I I don't I guess that has a lot to do with the snow and all of it melting running off the mountains and so we've got a little windy cold stained water morning and I'm seeing both a lot of the colors these guys are using so far have been cwad color real bright color so we're going to keep following them for a little while Kelly j's got a a history of fishing in this area of the state and I would imagine he's starting his you know starting the tournament off to win $25,000 a minimum um if he were to win the tournament he's probably going to start on some of his good stuff so also they're doubled up this is one something to recognize they're doubled up with camo and often times you look at Smith Lake you look at Jordan and Jesse Wiggins I can remember them in the winter time if they're both got on full C camo you better hang on cuz they're going to catch them it's just one of those things like if you see the Wiggins Brothers on Smith Lake in the winter time full camo they're catching them that's what the that's what these guys are right now they're full camoed out and that is a Telltale sign of like we're not here to dress up and look pretty I'm here to smash on them those are the guys I I really am often expect to catch them also I know Jason's making a little run but I don't know how he had so much energy he sounded so happy earlier he was jumping around and looking at the iPad at different boat numbers I'm so cold cany look at me right now this is me all day I'm just I've got triple gloves on all these hand heaters and I hear Jason in there bopping around looking at his iPad I can't even touch the iPad right now but in my ear they said what's his boat number I don't know his boat number I don't I can't get to MyPad I'm too cold so if y'all are at home watching this right now on the couch look I'm jealous yeah for for I will say another thing we joke about being so cold this morning cuz we're just standing here and don't we're not fishing for $25,000 but when that is on the line you real quickly forget about how cold it is when you're dialed and you can see these guys they're not they're not putting their hands in their pockets they're not going down to the heater they're fishing they know what's on the line and uh that's very important so you forget about the cold you you deal with it for a day and just grind it out and you can tell these guys are mean business and you can also tell the rest of the crowd too like you hear a lot of boats running right now and they're not just mosing around Idol and they're running to their spots and jumping up on the deck and starting to fish so $225,000 to put a little pep in yourself and for $1,000 entry Fe I can't believe or I can believe but it's just incredible to see I would say $1,000 is a good price to win 25,000 is a good bet so Jason look I'm I'm I'm freezing if you want to hop on here Jason you can take it over I've got to get to some more a new pack of hand warmers Daren I just I know man I know you did a couple with us last year um I'm just going to go ahead and prepare you this is the at and uh we don't have halfway it you know is the word I'll use today cuz you better bring some clothes you better bring some hand warmers you better bring some reindeer boots just be prepared cuz the ABT is going to bring the weather every time so I know that breakfast casserola warm you up so uh if you didn't get any good hand warmers Amazon has them and they're rechargeable so they're pretty awesome along with uh Phoenix boats and heated seats let's talk about that for a minute you know good equipment is super important so was nice to ride down this morning with our heated seats on and and rock and rolling we are the of 19 dispensers we are still on boat 45 Derek Hicks and Alex Davis look that youit we Landing I come [Music] back as we talk about weeds today um typically this time of year you'd probably see um close to 19 lbs with the typical normal conditions this year um it's definitely going to be a different deal today um potential is for 19 LBS or more um this lake is chalk full of of swatted bass and large mouth bass it is a great place to come um to catch fish so it is a definitely a fish catching place we every time we come here we say an abundance of limits so today um you know you may may be a little different um just based on the conditions but you know it may surprise us we've already seen our first fish Catch of the Day we weren't here just a few minutes and we've already got fish catches so that's a good sign that the fish are biting potential is here to catch a lot of fish those uh is what I'm trying to say and there just guys are going to keep their heads down and work hard CU they know that opportunity is there um just one good Cast Away from another opportunity to catch a big fish uh Largemouth and and spotted bass lots of like I said lots of abundance of fish these got to kind of work in a a pocket area um we see that the bank's kind of showing a little more than normal the the lake is drawn down right now and um it's that time of year but they're fishing just a long Rocky kind of flap coming up on some docks ahead of them there well we have made it to the voice or the new voice of the Alabama Bast tril he got on the water he's out here Luke um you know Darren's munching on some uh breakfast casserole you know you did say he would uh he'd be the guy today that gets all the lucky stuff so Luke what you got down there bud you got breakfast daran's part listen I don't have breakfast casserole Britain and I we barely got we got frozen peanut butter and crackers I've heard Darion talking about of course his boat captain there uh brought him some delicious casserole that sounds about right for Darion uh he's probably got him some sweet tea in there there's no telling uh but we we have caught up with some guys that are not having Daran look uh boat 19 the Spencers Nolan and Robbie and they're having a mechanical issue they think due to the cold they their foot throttle uh is is stuck and it's it's frozen they so they're just right below Lincoln Landing here trying to make the most of it and hoping that it THS out but uh they're telling us they've already they dropped a glove in the water that's Frozen and uh it's just you know and you guys said it in the beginning equipment is going to be a big deal today staying staying mentally in it o obviously with these weather conditions is the is the biggest storyline but not only your rods and reels freezing up but um you know bass boats aren't made for the frozen tundra sometimes so things can certainly happen and we're seeing that right now and they're making the most of it out here right off the main river so guys is a plan just to kind of make your way back towards Lincoln Landing and hope something THS out battery so it does Tha out we're done so I guess we're going to hang here for a while hope it THS um go all we do so they I don't know if you guys can can hear them they're they're going to hang in this area but the the problem with you know there's a lot of current in this system a little bit of wind today like they're saying if they stay on the trolley motor Their Fear is if it does fall out they're going to have cooked trolley motor batteries by the time they can actually run around so obviously not an ideal situation but these boys catch them everywhere they go so ass on this stretch are in trouble in my opinion I believe we've got uh Daren joining me here on live and of course he has found a snack as as the rest of us try to figure out how not to starve and freeze out here Darion what are you eating right now I'm eating breakfast casserole and I just hit a my first look my yeah I'm eating a breakfast casserole it's delicious we've got a guy fishing a road bed behind us I have no clue what their boat number is yet had to take a quick uh breakfast break hit a first sip of Black Rifle coffee we got a whole giant thermos in here there's probably a gallon of coffee and he's even pouring it for us too so look we got the best boat captain ever uh it's not warm the only thing he forgot was a heater so that I we can't fault that but uh his wife made us a a breakfast casserole and I've already spped about half of my my coffee so there's your first sip only the best for you D only the best for you Britain and I got out here we're driving ourselves we don't have people to to take care of us like you do but you're proven to be quite the Diva on the live Team all right I think we got Jason's going to join this he's he's seeing some action Jason what we got you know uh you guys are enjoying your day just enjoying the the atmosphere the breakfast casserole all that good stuff well we're catching fish guys we're on our second fish catch for the year uh Mr James Scott and Brian Meadows boat number four we are uh we're catching fish guys so uh you know y'all hang in there we're going we're going to do our job and we're going to bring some fish catches to the folks at home that are watching not a not a huge catch not a big fish but you know right now uh I think anything in the box is good yes this is our second Catch of the Day so little little short snag uh these guys looks like these fish are hitting right at the boat you know so we pulled up on them we were working our way to him and all of a sudden I'm looking he's he's got a hook set he's got that hook set he'll swing one in the boat here and look as he gets it in the boat we're like man there's another fish so good Network and we got one in the boat so got another one in the box so nice fish catch there um that's what we're here for we're here to catch and bring the action these guys have uh put in the practice and put in the work and we want to get a little TV time for them so so number four again they are uh working hard James Scott and Brian Meadows had had a chance to talk to them yet really just kind of letting them do their thing working this point here like I said we are up in chakalaka Creek we made the run this morning so far I guess we're the only boat that's made the longest run I mean Daran idal and Luke still sitting at the ramp pretty much much so we uh buried the cold with the rest of the guys and it's cold I ain't going to lie it's cold all right Daran you got your belly full with little breakfast cero and a little break rifle coffee I'm two catch two fish catches up on you bud so uh what we doing well we did just pull we're in the very back of this Creek and we've got Scott Canterbury I believe but like you said it's it's too hard it's it's too cold they've got so many layers on you can't just say what's your boat number because I can't hear you they got two layers ear warmers a hoodie and a jacket on but per my tracker says this is C so we'll see if when we get a little closer but they're fishing slow they're fishing slow and look they're you can see they're having to put their rod tip in the water to do the whole I trick but they ain't wearing gloves that's how tough these guys are that's when you know that they are dialed and they're catching them or they're going to be catching or they expect to catch them cuz they're not even worried about how cold their fingers are so we do have I'm hearing this is possibly boat number 74 which we possibly believe it's got Canterbury we're getting thumbs up if we think this is Canterbury but um back of a creek he's got some some knowledge here so we'll hang around here for a little while but he's the main thing I know is he's fishing slow and stetic he's not they're not rushing anything I would imagine that's going to be pretty common to the day like it's it's too cold to be fishing fast you won't burn anything so one thing I'm curious to hear about and I'll ask Lo later on but you always hear at weigh-ins guys end up saying man we caught a ton of fish today we just didn't catch the right ones I'm curious to hear if that happen the day you know what I mean or if this is one of the days where you don't get a lot of bites but they're going to be big or is that just mental or you know the fish still biting good I'm curious to hear and see how that kind of shakes out throughout the day appear as these guys I believe they are both I just laugh about how cold it is so the Dire from they're casting I think we can go get behind them and just the sun may not be perfect for the camera but we can at least get close and maybe get right here so couple you know last week 10 days and then the water got muddy and just C cold it's been pretty tough to get bites I mean there'll be some fish caught but it's it's pretty tough when that water got cold and muddy it just really slowed it down a bunch so we were talking about earlier on live a lot of times at weigh-ins you hear guys say we caught a bunch of fish but just didn't catch the right ones a guy didn't have a lot of weight do you see people catching a lot of fish in in a weather like this not right now I mean you know there'll be some people that probably will you know jigging a spoon or live scoping or something like that but I don't think I mean I still think we catch you know if we catch six or seven or eight fish doing what doing the way I think we should to catch a good one you know cranking or something shallow uh catch the right on I think it's so cold who knows I still think that's what we're going to do I mean we're going to stick with it all day try to grind it out yeah not necessarily you know we just got to figure out if they're B we're in coples now and toward the B so it may be better out toward the main river so we just have to figure that out the Shad has like got out really deep the last few days so and that mean a lot of them will move with them but man I don't think nobody's just going to catch a whole lot today a whole lot of fish I think the weights will be okay you know I just don't think get what's your guess I mean if things go like practice was to win the win the tournament 16 yeah yeah I think somebody has 16 they have a really good chance at it I just hadn't seen any big large Mount so you catch a big large Mount two you know you can bump it up pretty pretty quick but they're hard to find right now we back up a little bit and let y'all fish but you're good I appr yeah man have it little quick morning review and I wanted to ask Kay whenever she comes back on I me and Luke were talking about something last night with Halo rods Canberry obviously uses Halo rods and me and Luke were talking about which I had to room with Luke you know first off that's that's bad luck out of the gate but um Kate isn't out there on the water uh and maybe get to interview them when they come across the stage too but man a rod Locker full 16 rods dude 5200 going in a locker Bo yeah that is a really really cool thing I've never heard of uh well so it's like a I guess it's a random draw if you win you know the highest finisher of every tournament goes into a pole and they pick one out of the hat but to get a whole brand new Rod Locker full of Halo rods would be awesome that's really cool of them to do that and the reason I say that canb is cranking with a spinning rod obviously it's a pretty common thing to do when it gets this cold but he uses Halo rods is kind of why I brought that up but uh he's just whipping that spinning rod so we just backed off them a little bit they're they I think they were crank they were fishing some offshore structure earlier and then now it's just kind of fishing the bank fishing slow and like he said he said if we can get six or if we can catch six or seven fish we feel like they'll be the right ones throughout the day so that was kind of interesting to hear where you're not really you don't expect a ton of bites throughout the day but he said if you can catch C some bigger large mou that he thinks you could win but they're difficult to catch right now you know Dar and Scott Canterbury was one of the Bassmaster lead Anglers that came out uh on a live the other night and and agreed with the agreed with the decision to go forward with this tournament this weekend and you know we have this event the 100s allows bassm Elite guys they allow BPT guys to jump in these events and fish close to home for a lot of money and Scott came out and said you know I wish we would have fished yesterday because of the mental Advantage he feels like that that he might have over some of the other competitions so um you know props to him for getting out here and Swinging for the fences we've got Jason in with us too so Jason uh tell us what boat you're on you know we're still on boat four you know we got James Scott and Brian Meadows who have definitely boed a fish already today um which is a big deal I think on a cold day like this um it's numbers are important but uh one in the Box means a lot at this point in the day you know we also kind of spent some time with um a couple other guys drick Hicks and Alex Davis they didn't catch one yet but uh they've moved on up the creek a little bit from us and they're going to take their time and hopefully put some more in the boat we also caught the first kit fish of the year was uh Troy simbeck and Terry McCormack they have one fish in the Box as well and they have since moved on from this area so uh we've got boat number four here kind of still working this area they they've all three of them showed up in the same spot about the same time and uh kind of took their time together and you know we're very agreable and kind of worked out the area and couple teams caught fish couple teams moved on so it's a good start to the morning fish catching is always important at this point so doing the best I can from a cameraman this camera lady I should say uh kind of try not throw her out of the boat I got the TR motor trying to get us going the right way here so we're trying to not fall out of the boat not freeze to death the whole whole back deck's covered in ice so um it's been a uh eventful morning for sure so equipment is uh is paying off today you know it's it's it's a good day it's it's warming up believe it or not to say that and the sun's out really does feel good heat warmers hand warmers heated seats all those good things heated jackets everything's heated today so we've got more battery packs I think than uh anybody else doing our best to stay charged up today as you look at uh James scottt there uh quick to point out uh he's fishing out of the new 21 XE Phoenix boat this year uh the XE line came out yeah the 20 and the 21 cool thing about that is it's all fiberglass boxes so no carpet underneath the deck really cool options there on the 21 XE so Phoenix boat stepping up new model this year all right guys one in the Box means a lot at this point doesn't it really does a lot for that mental game for sure when it's cold like this yeah everything keeps freezing up fish here they just want to eat they're going to pick up soon or later water temperature dropped a lot for the last two days has it it's 39 and a half 43 Friday was it 43 Friday okay so temperature definitely drop slow them down even more probably right oh yes sir they were slow by Friday but this sure slow this morning yeah we're sitting on 39° today they said that the water temp was 43 last week as they ended practice we're sitting on 39° still right now so it has not warmed up any guess if we get too cold we just get in the water it's it's warmer in the water right that's great they R out of the water when you got back out how they wouldn't want to get out of the water at that point though probably guys y'all working a rock bank here clay Bank what's the game plan today on this PN as much as possible wind's going to change a little bit later on the afternoon so hopefully that won't hurt us too bad try to it not what we found ince try to stay with it hope for the best lock a little bit of how much time y'all spend in practice uh together 4 days five days weather's changed so much in the last few weeks yeah it's going to be in the 50s next week it's changing so much right now it is B this dog coming down the bank here I do not know what he is carrying but he has found something he's out scaming today like the rest of us trying to stay warm something toat I guess he found something to eat didn't he he is carrying I don't something to Che on I guess I don't know got a bird sitting out here on the point talked to some of the teams earlier this week they said there was a a Shad kill you know when the water temperature dropped so fast that it um oh was it the Shad a Shad k and what that happens is a lot of teams have noticed that the fish are really kind of going after just the dying Chad or the dead Chad really just kind of feed up they're kind of full and teams have noticed that uh they didn't really want to eat much earlier this week so hopefully at this point in the week that the shack kill's kind of over and they kind of fed up it's time to get hungry again you know with the the changing conditions it's been stable more than anything the last couple of days cold front kind of moves in and really really puts the fish down and really they don't want to act be very active and then as the temperature begins to warm up or as it gets stable um the fish will come active again I feel like we're kind of in that pattern right now where um it's stable you know a lot of teams talked about this could be the day today where it's going to begin to warm up I know 39° didn't necessarily warm for some people but when it was 14 this morning and we get a 39° air temperature today that's going to that's going to make make the surface temperature warm up make some fish hopefully active at that point and really bring us back to hopefully a fish catching opportunity for for a lot of these guys so the water's been been stable air temperature's been stable for the last couple days it's been cold but it's been pretty stable it's not uh fluctuating a lot so teams are hoping today's kind of been that day you know we talk all all the time about hitting on the right day and being very very key to to lining up with the right weather conditions and water conditions I feel like today we're we're lining up with it though it is difficult we're lining up with it hopefully today would be a good day for for catching I know it's not uh 70 80° in April but uh we came here to fish and we came here to be competitive and these guys get up for the competition and everybody's got a one thing to do is they all got to face the same conditions they're fishing against the fish they're not fishing against each other necessarily they're really working hard to to catch the fish couple boats up the creek a little bit what's what's unique about today than any other time we've been out we uh we if we see a boat chances are about 110% that it's an Alabama B fishing today if there's somebody else out here fishing today and they're not in the tournament uh they really love fishing the good thing is if we see a boat we're going to pull up stop at them we're going to talk to them than sh 20% of your battery are all right Luke I think you have moved on to a team that uh I may have talked to earlier this week that was going to share a little bit of information about their week probably one of the teams that had some of the most experience on the lake so where you at what they doing yeah we CAU up with Zeke gossip Ethan king of course Zeke the favorite on Logan Martin so many times but also the 2023 Alabama Vass Trail North angler of the year but uh just caught up with them they got one fish in the boat doing a little bit of scoping a little bit of jerk baiting down here in uh in blueee Creek this is a lot of a lot of boats in here man we've got we can see three from where we're at right now and and based on the tracker we can see a few more in here as well um but slow morning so far they've got one Keeper in the box but like you said Jason a little earlier um as cold as it is as as crazy as the conditions are uh and and mentally challenging they can be getting one fish in the boat can can certainly Kickstart your day but if I sound like my beard is Frozen that's the case for sure it is uh it's not bad when you get out of the wind and get the sun on your back that's for sure it's going to warm up here you know it's supposed to be above uh above freezing by around 10:30 or 11:00 but a little bit of breeze on the water and and uh certainly not the the most comfortable fishing conditions but but like Miss Kay said earlier as well like being mentally tough I mean it always carries you a long ways in in big tournaments like this but especially when the conditions are what they are if you can block it out just focus on getting a bite and you get five of the right ones you're going to go home with some of that $100,000 payback today and we see a lot of teams with some laser sharp Focus today no doubt about that ignoring the conditions you can see Zeke and Ethan it's it's it is a constant battle to keep the ice out of your guides especially throwing something like a jerk bait because you're constantly casting and bringing it back so you're constantly get that ice built up we're showing a water temperature around right at 40 I believe Darion he's he's had all his breakfast casserole he's caught up with another team D what you got down there yeah we are on number beon and I'm sorry I couldn't hear you I have full stomach I did hear you say about breakfast casserole it's down the hatch and I said I hope you have stach I probably will you know but look Miss Donna cooked it for us so I'm going to say shout out to Miss Donna cuz it was good but we're on boat number nine now it is a phoenix dude I'm not these phoenixes keep getting prettier I say that every time but phoenixes keep getting prettier um this one's all blacked out they got the black badges on the engine too black power poles black graphs and honestly they have they said they don't have any fish yet but look that we'll get to that um battle in the cold They're laughing a lot so I don't know if they're laughing because it's so cold or they're laughing because they know they're about to start biting or what but the guys are laughing good energy and uh they're just they're just spot locked and J back to the wind long cast and just grinding well you know Darion sometimes when you get to laugh it's because you're Delirious you know what I mean your brain Frozen We BR and I have been laughing a lot this morning too but not because anything's funny there's ice hanging off the cleat of his the front uh Deering I guess where it hooks to the trailer there's ice hanging off of that right now it's a amazing listen I've got an electric hand warmer in my pocket and I'm I'm in heaven right now now I don't have breakfast casserole but I do have some some good gear you know and you know that about me Dar hooked up right here Here We Go Fish number two here we go looks like that's going to be keeper number two let's go good job guys unfortunately I can't put them on a c ball my balls are frozen in the bottom of Zeke said he can't he can't put that one on a coal float because his coal floats are Frozen to the bottom of the live wheel you'll you'll have that on a day like today Z that's fish number two we already had said they had to fill the live wheel with a weigh-in bag to get water in it pumps Frozen today I mean it is adverse conditions but you know I said this on the Alabama Bass Trail podcast with Miss K the other day when you sign up to fish a Tournament Trail that fishes January June and November you can just about bet that the January and November ones are going to be uncomfortable even though it is Alabama and this is you know not normal for us at all um these early early season tournaments man you never know what you're going to get weatherwise and mother nature certainly gave us this polar vortex as they've called it this week and it is a it's a challenge but these guys are figuring it out to fish in the boat I think we're going to a little replay of that last catch with Zeke and Ethan see Zeke dragging a jig there slow and steady while Ethan throws a jerk bait Ethan quick on the net every fish is going to going to play today towards that 25 $5,000 of course these guys fishing for that Phoenix bonus money too I mean a chance to win over $30,000 today on Logan Mark how cool would that be guys to win like 329,000 today at home that'd be all right they said they would like that that' warm them up pretty quick this afternoon I believe we've got Jason going to join the party here Jason you're not the only one that can find fish catchers I tracked down the fish catchers on Logan Martin this morning what you got buddy yeah I got two in the box that's pretty cool we're pulled up with on Paul Davis and Josh Chapel here and these guys guys you got any in the box yet we got two got two in the Box okay well I uh I see your two and I raise you to how about that so uh we're going to meet up I've got uh two in the Box here two fish catches on live already so I may not have any breakfast casserole but I will tell you this those hand warmers you got I got me a set of them too and I had to kick them down to low cuz they're that hot it's crazy how hot they are list they they'll burn your fingerprints off they'll burn the fingerprints right off of for sure hey we're older I'd like to point that out so we're we're down close to the I20 bridge right now just off the main river okay and these guys I'm watching on the on the graph here man a lot of bait around this area they're in um and just kind of that textbook to me winter spot it's just a deep hole and a lot of bait around and they're working a two-prong approach one draggon and one one scoping with a jerk bait and uh and then constantly having to clear the Guides of ice for sure um yeah but this area is you know and I see why it's popular man a lot of a lot of Shad in here no doubt about that yeah we are right here at the bridge in um chakalaka Creek and these guys are fishing you know just a bridge pattern it looks like I mean if if you want to call it that they're fishing the rocks and both of them got a spin and ride in their hand and both of them going real slow I I can't see a bait from where I am at this point but it's small whatever it is and I do see the heads keep going down look at the Liv scope so same kind of thing like you got just a different rdge you know your bridge is much bigger than our bridge but uh we're in a much smaller area we seem to be concentrated have been around a lot of guys that went past here uh they were back up just a little bit ahead of us and we fish for a little while around them and then they c a couple and they sent moved on all of those guys spot together the three of them all of them have moved on up the creek a little more so it guys are catching fish though which you know some people at home may be like man it's 14° outside there ain't no way but what we're seeing guys are catching them so it's a good sign to start off this early especially no doubt about it you got you know these spots we talked about it last night at dinner Jason these spotted bass uh to me and this L's got a lot of big spots in it they're more apt to bite in these conditions they're a little more friendly a lot of times adverse condition I think it makes them mad they want to bite but uh it's going to be interesting to see how many big large mouth come in today but I I think these spots will bite especially as the day warms up and um you know Zeke just said just a few minutes ago uh wining that $32,000 to that Phoenix bonus money a first flight money would really warm him up but he said a five pounder would warm him up a little bit quick if he could makes it all that for sure those guys definitely know the lake whale I talked to them earlier this week as we were uh writing the preview story and they said that both of those guys grew up fishing here I know Zeke you know it's his deal here and um Ethan Ethan has fished here about just as much and both of them were kids and fish here all their lives so they know the lake really well they said they were going to bounce around a bunch of spots you know so it's going to be important to them to just really kind of cover water it's good to see that they already got fish in the Box too you know mentally that's got to make you feel good right get a couple in the boat yeah definitely two fish at that and get the live wheel to open you know see did say J I don't know if you heard he said he had to take the weigh-in bag to fill up the live well in the Phoenix this morning it's cold I know I mean if you if water gets on the on the deck it's going to freeze oh yeah we uh we dropped some in between the seats had a little splash and and Britain and I almost went ice skap earlier here in the v in and it's like those docks this morning I I almost became a viral video about four times trying to get to the takeoff Boat ice skating in these in these boots yeah we talked last night you know just being clumsy with all the clothes on the biggest fear is falling out yes you know I got a whole change of clothes in here just in case but man I'd hate to fall me well they were a change of clothes but I've added them for camera angle right now slide down a little bit L what kind of weight you think we're looking for today you know I still think you're going to see that 177 p plus bag win this thing you know 17 18 lbs in my opinion I this Lake's got so many fish in it so many good fish in it and and with this Carew we got out here I just I think you're going to see 17 18 plus to take it home yeah I'd be right there with you you know Zeke and the guy said you know 16 17 lbs they said they don't really expect 19 but you know potential is there for 19 if somebody could could do it they could definitely take it home today no doubt I bet a lot of guys would have gone out with 16 if you would have spotted them 16 in the live wheel they would have just sa give me 16 PBS and I'll sit the truck all day yes been up there next to the food truck or having Jack's biscuit Jack I'll just run down to Jack's and bring everybody a biscuit I knew I liked you Jason like even better now if you bring me a sausage biscuit from Jacks we're going to be best friends forever we're in right we're in breakfast C you know yeah listen I you know I know Daren and I are both new and you're the you're the veteran here but I think he's he's really trying to stir up trouble by bragging about breakfast cast I feel like you're starting the first event of the year you know you're you're setting yourself up your failure with the rest of your teammates bragging about that I feel like's going to be rough for him this afternoon you you know and and there's one rule in life you you don't mess with the guy with the microphone and I got the microphone this afternoon so you know your your former definitely uh had a lot of unique snacks on live there were times he's eating um tuna fish out of a pack I think we ate a a pickled egg one day you know so he's done it all I don't I don't really remember any breakfast casserole so uh definitely I think we're getting a look at that right now for those of you that Miss down there I mean just the breakfast casserole Craig is what we're going to call him there's Mr breakfast casserole Mr going down there bu yeah I'm just over here you know full belly and I hear y'all tattering in my ear but I caught boat number 87 and they got one fish they're scoping and pry but only got one F I don't know how big it is yet I don't know if y'all are having the same thing going on but it's so cold when you when you yell at somebody they're having to pull back a later pull back a later and then get to their ear do that number so it's kind of hard to communicate on those tournament but uh these guys are working it though I mean they're they're like di Luke I was curious you've seen a couple boats this morning and Jason you have too did the guys seem to be pretty they're not really worried about the cold right now they're they're straight fishing right no no no they're they're not worried about Zeke are you worried about the cold Daren Craig wants to know are you worried about the cold Zeke said he's not worried about the cold Peri he's out here trying to win 32 Grand okay I and then I have another question Luke we got a text earlier so doing work with the jerk bait great job guys that's a that's an old fat spotty bath right there yeah he almost looks like a large mouth he little little little pale good fish fish number three right there taking a look at Ethan working that jerk bait and Fish number three Zeke on the net doing work they're taking a two-prong approach here like I said one fishing really methodical with the jerk bait and and scoping and Zeke is dragon and it's so far we've seen both of them contribute to the box and the Nets Frozen right now these guys were obviously on our watch LK and I did the podcast the other day and they were in my five teams to watch for sure and they're showing why this morning early here on stop number one ABT 100 the snowbow as I'm calling it here and Zeke had just said right before that that these are the toughest conditions for Logan he says he's seen the water temperature 30 39 before but this is about as cold as it gets for him on this Lake about as bad of conditions as you can see but they're they're powering through it there's no doubt about that and like like Darion mentioned I mean you're seeing a lot of these guys we've seen some whining and crying of course on social media heck you've seen it for me this morning it's cold out here but the people that are dialed they know what's on the line it's a one- day chance that's the beautiful thing about the ABT 100 one of the biggest payouts for just a single day event they know if they put it together they can take home over 30 grand with the Phoenix First Flight money and all the other bonuses we have and they're dialed they're not paying any attention they're working through the adversity and it's they're going to be really dangerous today I feel like come that 3:30 way in guys you need me to back up you're good good I've got it spot locked real real low but I want to make sure I don't get in your way no they just had one Chas it through the boat look they said they just just had one follow alive right there you seeing a lot of them right there what now you seeing a lot of them right there not a ton of them probably seven or eight they're hanging in there which usually means they'll buy you just got to sit on them so they got seven or eight fish they're seeing on live scope and so normally that means they'll bite when they're kind of hanging in there just making short casts with the jerk but they've had some follows I see Zeke I said a jig he's got a swimbait he's been slow slow rolling and dragging around there looks like but that's the coolest thing about team events for me is just watching how it's a it's a it's a balance right you've got one partner does one thing while the other and and and I think so many times when people first get into team events they don't take advantage of that each partner has a strength you fish that you both really can't do the same thing hooked up hooked up again easy Here We Go Fish number four another good fish great job let's go hey that's warming me up and I'm not even realing them in I like this here we go lighten up that PR guide leader board this morning another jerk bait fish on live another another fatty there drop that one in number four take a look back at that real fast Ethan just working that jerk bait slow watching them with ially on live scope that one Chas I mean got it right at the boat too just did but it was bigger than that one that last one look like a c that that one's probably about two and a half probably about two and a half first one we caught been the biggest one it was probably close to three two and A2 pounder there that last one was what that was close to three before that fish three was what three pound right we got two probably close to three that one was like two and a half and the other one that cost probably pound okay they say they got two close to three lb a two and A2 pounder and then a a smaller keeper around pound and a half that's what we've got King and gossip with right there so off to a great start you guys think 17 16 17 something like that yeah I think it's 16 17 uh I mean you never know Logan Martin you just never know it's Coster River but sometimes it take real low it might even take like 14 34 you know really okay uh but I would say I'd say 16 or 17 you'd feel good with 16 sounds like right yeah I think that be top 10 easy so will we see a large mouth today I mean a big large mouth for you guys is that I mean do they mix in with these spots on a place like this uh that's really a mix right here um this this is both spots and large mouth a lot of times but uh yeah you'll see some big heads today uh this is when they buy when it gets really really cold now they're tough to catch but they will buy though that's what we're hoping for we're hoping to catch you know two two solid big large mounts you know four plus and then get some spots like that to go with it so heck yeah right there good stuff from Z it says the big large B the C we didn't have a great practice uh I've lived here my whole life and one day we went out and we only caught two all day think the Shad kill's got something to do with that just the overall drastic temp change it is yeah Shad Shad kill hurts any Lake but really i' I've been through like two or three Shack kills in my life and that's the toughest it is okay great stuff right there from Zeke's lived here his whole life He's only seen two or three Shad kills and it always makes it really tough like I said they're powering through though and up that Pride leaderboard three great fish another keeper is the plan to stay in this general area most of the day or you guys have a lot of stuff you're going to try to run as it warms up um well right now uh we're probably going to stay here for pretty good while we might say end up staying here all day but we're just going to see we'll make a few more passes and see but uh there's a good chance we might stay here most of the day like here okay but uh is he cooked up I'm going to quit asking you questions so you don't do that Zeke just lost one breaking it down for me I don't want to call somebody 25 Grand Z doing a great job though man he's he's such a bright spot in this sport such a talented young angler hooked up Zeke gossip with a frozen net oh lost it right to boat keeper number five lost it put his head right back down right back to work Ethan taking the time to retie after that last good fish catch you can actually see right there their net is Frozen I mean it is it's all baled up and Frozen Zeke actually P him off on the net on that fish and of course these fish are just going to be barely getting that jerk bait really important to have some sharp hooks like some dmc's on that bad boy change the stock hooks out so you can stick these finicky fish like we saw Ethan there sit down to retie and in this weather it does you know Folks at home you might you might think man we taking him so long he's catching them to get get back up and fish but when you got all this gear on it's so hard you got to take the gloves off get down to the Bare Bones then it's cold to try to retie and man everything just becomes a challenge but the guys that figure it out today like we say power through these conditions are going to be the ones that Hoist the trophies and take home the big chicks this afternoon they said they're going to stay in this general area the biggest part of the day and you know what I'm good with we'll just sit right here hold you can see them man they're just they're they're looking at like like they said seven or eight fish in this little hole and and they're obviously committing to their baits but they're just super intense right now it's crazy how much baits in this area and it's something I really expected you know winter time fishing these Shadow getting these deeper holes right off these Creek channels and things certainly what these guys are targeting both on point two of those fish catches were just ride at the boat those fish just following that jerk bait for I honestly didn't plan on catching any this early so you're ahead of schedule that that's scary for the rest of the field I'm going to be honest yeah we're way ahead of that's awesome so they weren't planning on catching any this early so that's scary to hear from accomplished Anglers like this four fish in the box at 92 2 6 like a miss right there man we've got a lot of great fishermen in this field today but these boys right here are dangerous from what we're seeing we knew it coming in but they're confident they're not paying the weather any attention it's going to be interesting to see what they show up to Lincoln Landing with this afternoon for for slow and steady trying to talk them into biting and so far they are doing so great numbers for us this morning here on a beautiful Sunday morning and cold Alabama air temperature right now is 22° and as you've heard the guys out on the water water temperature is somewhere around uh that 40° Mark so we would really like to see it get to around 45 but um odds of that happening today probably not really good the high today is around 44 45° very little wind today compared to what we've seen earlier in the week so uh your current air temperature there showing 22 degrees with water temperature at 40 and little to no wind so uh we have had wind uh up into around 15 miles an hour this week this week as we've been here since Thursday uh and it has been challenging for the guys out on the water today's uh conditions are a little bit different than what they've seen there's not a lot of wind where they've been facing anywhere from 5 to 15 mph winds throughout the practice so uh but again a lot better than where most of our team came from we had 3 to 5 Ines of ice just North here about an hour and a half north of of this area and so I am thankful to be here at 22 and no ice on the ground so thank you for tuning in uh I do want to send out a shout out to we had 10 teams not able to show up today we have some guys that are unable to um be with us due to lots of different things you have three teams that will be competing on the npfl so they're not able to fish this Lake they are off limits and uh so West Logan uh Thomas Shelton and um will collie are not able able to fish this event because they are off limits for an npfl event that will be here in two weeks so you had three teams unable to fish for that reason we had a couple people that uh suffered some injuries uh leading up to this event not not practicing or anything like that so they're out and the other ones just didn't want to Brave the cold so um so we are watching everyone out on the water we have 30 trackers out on the water uh tracking our teams we've got our three live cameras out on the water and then here back at home base myself our team will be back at 11:00 start the setup and get ready for weigh in there so uh thank you for tuning in this morning I do want to just recap you know we talked about Zeke and Ethan they had four fish in the boat they had the fifth one on it came off uh you got Josh chapel and Paul Davis if you listened to the podcast earlier this week you them yet you've seen a former bass master Elite angler Kelly Jay lanir Burton you've seen a current Bassmaster Elite Series angler Scott canterburry and his partner Terry Stevens uh so there is this field is chalk full of talent so uh I'm excited to see what this afternoon is going to be I know Darien covered Brian Adamson and Ryan Lloyd earlier they played second in the first event last year at lak wadai they won an event on the Alabama River last year so again the talent field here is second to none any of these guys can make that jump and go to the next level at any time so very proud to be here at Logan Martin I do want to give a shout out to the city of Lincoln to Les Robinson the volunteers that were cting people around this morning on the golf C carts as well as just getting us working this week so uh it's been uh it's been a an interesting week the weather has certainly thrown us a lot of curveballs uh but Les and his staff have jumped through so many Hoops to make sure that we're here and have a successful event thank you to the city of Lincoln uh and you know you can't say anything other than these guys understand the impact of ass fishing to their community and we're going to stay tuned for just a little bit I will talk a little bit about the Alabama Bass Trail that'll be coming up in a couple of weeks on Lake Jordan that'll be our first kickoff event February the 10th on Lake Jordan the smallest body of water we go to just over 6600 Acres 225 teams will be entered into that event and they will be looking for uh their first $115,000 first place check here on the Alabama Bass Trail entry fees went up this year but so did the payout the first $115,000 first place check will be handed out there at Lake Jordan in watonka Alabama and then the very next week we go to a Big Fish Lake a big smallmouth lake pck lake there in Florence Alabama that will be the host of the first Alabama Bass Trail North Division event on February the 17th so a and Jason Atkins guys what we got this morning got two two small ones good deal y'all been spending most of the time right in here yeah it's hard to run around a lot when it's cold in it y'all spend much time in practice we practiced several days yeah over here River only yeah that's kind of what led you into keeping staying here yeah yeah air temperature warms up a little bit hopefully it'll help everybody get out of the off I was I was about boat seven when I took off so I tried to not have to blasted up here starting to worry when we caught that first one in the Live Well was fro be water in yeah we going have to hand dip it yeah we're just not used to this type of temperature to start out with oh the guid start freezing turn right around here you hey bud let me do what you got to do how about that good must to be above freezing about 11 right yeah right hopefully so these guys said they got two fish in the Box two small one said they fished all over the lake in practice and spent a lot of time trying to locate some fish and seemed like this was the only area that they were able to locate some baked fish in so they just decided this is where they needed to start B yep all right Mr breakfast cero I have not yet to ask any guys if they would trade some breakfast casserole for some hand warmers but uh I bet that they probably would at this point so hopefully you're out by now maybe maybe you're getting cold or something I just feel jealous over here I hate to interrupt you with that story I we got a story going on right now he said it took him 45 minutes before to get the boat off the trailer they had to use a jack and their their boat was frozen straight to the trailer yeah so did y'all get the blast off that before we bled off at uh 7:47 747 95 anyway we they're boat number 95 and all they did was Miss about 2 de of that cold so honestly I think they were kind of thankful for that they got to work work on the trailer in the parking lot and break a little sweat out uh so they got one fish and they're slow dragging looks like they're doing two different you know two different kinds of dragons so I don't know if y'all going to something one of y'all St something a little bit bigger one of yall something a little bit smaller just see what they want yeah basically we just uh just Rota CLE a couple of different baits different sizes and sced bite here and sced bite there yeah put together five be yeah so we pulled out on the other side of y'all and kind of sat there for a while y'all haven't really moved a ton is this kind of a spot like fish SC yeah so you just got to hope you get this hope those last couple hours get a [Music] couple all you can hope for out for our practice basically this is about it yeah we got bid here we got bid there but this is to be the most [Music] yeah got to go we got nowhere to go so we might as well just it that's right got her haer that's key we had a we had a breakfast casserole earlier Donna made C and everybody I got I got an ear piece on right now all the studio and [Music] [Laughter] everyone I think they're just I think they're jealous partially yeah but I am jealous of that here hey I tell you I save your fingers you hop down there and just get them warm and right back so I will say the cool thing though like you find a spot like this where you had some bik to practice and you just can't out yeah if the if the five right ones bit and you win $25,000 sitting right here you know this i' take that to as cold as it's been uh if you don't know a whole lot about the lake you best Just Fish yeah you know nothing to lose hope you get those couple lucky bites put you over the edge sometimes she [Music] got all right we're still up here in h chakalaka Creek I want to say it's warming up I really do I feel like um we have uh got some sunshine got a lot of uh guys have been catching fish this morning you've seen some fish catches on live guys you know don't seem to really be distracted by the cold I'm telling you they really just kind of taking their time and just working through the areas that they're in these guys pulled up here and started out this morning first thing they said that they worked all over and really took their time this is boat number 11 Sam long and Jason Atkins got two fish in the Box really just kind of working their area out the area that they started in to they were right behind being boat number 11 they finally C it the boat number one and they were in the same area with them to start out this morning we're in the chocal lock Creek area just here with Alabama Bass Trail 100 series looking to take home some money today I'm going do a spin around here camera lady just to get you a better angle there we go you can see got the head down on the Liv scope really watching the fish casting towards them talked to some guys earlier that said that they had seen a lot of fish on the Liv scope and just trying to get them to bite at this point it's been important it's not that they're not around the fish they are definitely around fish it's just getting to bite and turn on the right time of day I know as the day moves on the water temperature warms up the air temperature warms up sun gets up in the sky probably will to see a lot of fish catches this afternoon not b yeah char you're have to remap stuff if he gives him been look for I want to go back to Z with that ma' for got I know it looks like these guys are just in the middle of nothing but they're actually in the middle of the creek and there's a bunch of fish just rolling around on the bottom chasing bait as you see puts his head down and then he'll point and then he'll really notify to this partner that hey that's where the fish are you know cuz he's using lip scope garment Li scope and he can see where they are so as he points where they are hey that's where the fish just kind of move through it's where the bait is so they're just kind of restar they'll reset up on them they'll make another cast and just kind of work through them they've kind of mixed it up from small soft Plastics to they were throwing a jerk bit when we first pulled up onto them earlier got a real small it's all plastic right now almost like a Shaky Head but it's real tiny you know kind of some guys might even call it a Dei rig but it's not necessarily A Dei bait but it's like Style just small soft plastic all right let's slide back down to Mr Darion hopefully you got something for us new buddy yeah so I think interesting things uh I remember uh T I talked about a little bit last year but one of the most interesting things about we have these iPads and it shows where a lot of the Anglers are at and it's really neat to me to see where other guys have fished that someone else has already been through and you think about that throughout the day as you're fishing the tournament hopeing no else is Just Fish this spot but um I remember once once upon a time Marty Stone talked about that when Major League Fishing first got those iPads and they could keep up with the trackers how many people fish the exact same docks and throughout the day would fish and catch a lot of fish off the exact same boat dock and little pieces of structure but more fish were just loading into these spots so we've got Allan glasow and George Crane on fishing the exact spot that Canterbury was on earlier obviously we're not going to talk about that really loudly but fish in the exact same spot uh fish it a little bit differently kind of from different angles but interesting to see those got Canterbury we've seen is all the way down the lake now saw the iPad so it's not like they were watching them and and moved in or anything like that it's just coincidentally they both know something about this spot and uh it's cool to see that that happens a lot in Tournament Fishing but it's part of the strategy who can get there at the right time um you know but often times you see like uh what Marty son was talking about that time is often times the guy who gets there first catches them and the next guy catches them and the fish reload throughout the day but I think as Anglers we worry about that thinking you got to get there first and catch them and they're going to be gone but um interesting to see so we'll catch up with these guys see what they've got today but I would say certainly with the two people that we've seen fish the same spot today it's there's got to be something here that's worth uh fishing for the amount of money that's on the line for this tournament clearly something special is going on here still for these are two old school Anglers and they're fishing fishing old school ways one's got a big spinner bait one's got a old school looks like could be uh what's that Brown Crawl Shad wrap or or or Shad WP of some sort slow cranking and uh just fishing slow but we've got our our back obviously their backs are to us and the wind's blowing into their back so it'll be difficult to talk to these guys right now but Jason I'm just watching some some cranking and some Slow Rolling of the spinner bait no fish catches where I'm at what's going on over where you're at we are taking our time just kind of working through the area right here just these guys are doing their best man these these fish are just moving around a lot they're Liv scoping around them it's kind of kind of hard to catch right now you them talking to each other a lot just kind of talking through the game plan for for for so Jason where I've been um not a ton going on today I actually we we haven't seen any fish catches or in the area that we're in we're going to make a a run here in just a few minutes down to a little bit South uh different area see if I don't know if there's maybe water colors different or something see if we can find something different but what's the general like fish catching or energy where you're at because it's honestly it's really slow when we're up so we're in chakalaka Creek the water's pretty stained what guys have been doing is um the water as we know is you can see on the bank is drawn down and you can see a lot of Rock Bank you can see a lot of clay bank and as guys are fishing this area some guys are kind of staying out towards the middle chasing the fish out a little bit deeper and when I say deeper I mean they're in 12 to to 6ot of water and then we've got guys kind of working the bank with a crankbait or um a raple Shad rrap and just kind of running these long Rocky Banks and long Rocky points we have seen some guys fishing underneath the bridge that was uh Josh Chapelle Josh chapel and Paul Davis were working underneath there and they had two fish in the Box working that pattern we've kind of moved up the creek a little bit more now and they have um just kind of fishing out here in the middle got to check some fish on the Liv scope I do see another team kind of pull up over there beside us right now hey K you can see that a made a run the Run got longer yeah I know I forget what tourament I did the first time we did Logan Martin e y thank y'all appreciate your time today good luck stay warm for sure so as these guys pull away you know we're going to make a run I think look's about to set up on another team as well we've definitely got Daren headed off to another team as well and uh you know as these guys pull away Luke I think um you've kind of got recharged and kind of back in power mode here and pulling back up on a team that you had saw catching some fish earlier tell us what's going on no doubt about it we are uh we're definitely recharged we're refrozen again we had uh Britain and I had warmed up a little bit we had to go make a little little camera battery swap this cold is uh obviously as we know it's rough on the fishing equipment the Boating equipment and the camera equipment iPads and all the things we use we all got extra batteries and chargers and things but uh try to be as prepared as we can but anyways we're back out here we're we're sneaking up on Zeke and Ethan again it's another team right here close and they've moved from where they were um they look to have moved about 50 75 yards and and Zeke actually told us where we're seeing them now is where they wanted to be but we're going to try to ease in close enough to see if they were able to build that limit since we made our little run and they're just kind of working it's a it's a deep hole and I'm telling you on both sides of it coming in before there's a bar that kind of protects it and uh Sand Bar Gravel Bar and at the on the outside of it and there's so much bait on the outside there's so much bait in the actual depression it's insane guys are you able to fill it out yeah we got five now got five now so cold twice cold they got a limit theyve cold twice since we left am I okay right here okay got a little over 13 a little over 13 lbs that's what they're estimating right now are you still ahead of schedule though it's 11: yeah okay said they're still ahead of schedule I'm very I'm very pleased with it at least I think we both are but we really need we got one that's it's not real small but we need to get espe catch like I said I don't I didn't think we was going to catch one this early so the limit I'm fine with the limit we got right now so know you guys can can hear that or not but he's saying that really they they're happy with where they're at at 11:00 here excuse me 10:00 my my GPS on this boat's an hour fast so 10:00 way ahead of schedule 10 almost 10:20 here and they didn't expect to have this this early and so they are very confident with the time they've got left they've got one more that they want to get rid of I think we're going to look back at some of these catches from Ethan and Zeke no strangers to catch a bass on the Alabama Bass Trail for oh so while we were away making a camera battery swap as Zeke said there they've called two times still got a small Keeper in the box that they'd like to get rid of but very pleased exact words very pleased with where they're at here stop number one of the ABT 100 great start to the year you know not only are we we have a 100% payback over $100,000 going to be giving out today at Lincoln Landing 25,000 plus all kind of bonuses going to the winter but these guys are fishing for that those belts those championship belts for Angler the year as well Team of the Year and Zeke no stranger to that in the Alabama Bass Trail just the team series won the North angler of the year which arguably one of the toughest tournament trails in bass fishing in my opinion not an easy feet and was able to win that angler of the Year title had a victory there in the north last year as well so no stranger to winning and certainly not a shocker to see these guys in contention today on that proide leaderboard we're still taking a two-prong approach fishing a swimbait very very very slow and then a jerk bait for the Liv scope fish so they got a they got their garments going they got the Phoenix First Flight money get some Yamaha power pay there's lots going on over here potentially for Ethan and Zeke if they can find a way to climb to the top of that Pride leaderboard and we have talked about it today a lot but the storyline is the weather obviously we had so many guys that that didn't want to go that didn't want to fish and there's been a lot of comments made about being mentally tough and I think that's true in any tournament regardless of the conditions the the folks that can block out whether it's losing fish whether it's other anglers in your area you know changing conditions whether it be weather or water conditions whatever that is tournament Anglers that are very consistent and win a lot and Zeke and Ethan are certainly two of those guys they block it out and we've not heard them complain one time they're just focused on what they're doing and look their live wheel pumps didn't even work this morning they were froze and shut uh their pumps were froze up a little bit they used a weighin bag when they caught their first keeper to feel the live well so there's just a difference out here and and I think Scott can was one that said on a podcast this week that over half the field is eliminated basically when the boats hit the water because they're they're mentally out of it and there's a lot of Truth to that I don't know if it's half but there's certainly a large percentage of folks that you know they're going to sit around and complain about the weather more than focusing on the bass and look that's easy to do we've certainly been complaining about it ourselves this morning it's not comfortable out here but man they know they got a job to do and there's so many of these teams that are taking that mindset and they're going to be the ones that take on paychecks today and the team that ends up not only winning this event but whoever wins our angler of the Year this year and wins those builds you're going to earn it I mean three crazy I mean different tournaments condition wise and and the way these Lakes are going to set up with Weiss in the summer and then wheeler there in the fall of November the team that takes it home especially with this kickoff being with these crazy adverse conditions it's going to be really interesting to see who takes home the belts this year it's going to be a fun season I'm glad to be a part of it even if Darion is already started one uping us and having breakfast casseres and whatnot still not sure how K got him involved in this but we'll talk about that for that I've talked about Zeke winning that angler of the year in the north last year Ethan and his partner last year in the in the South ABT team Trail there been finished third in the aoi race so both of these guys I think they're a team that when they they join forces here it's like putting some superheroes together I think a lot of people in the field I don't know I might need to test them for fishing steroids this group together no doubt about it but lot of experience on this Lake as well for all right well things are starting to heat up a little bit starting to feel a little better out here on the water as the sun's getting a little higher and we get close to getting above freezing temperatures and that being said we're going to take a quick break hope want to just reiterate a little bit of what Luke was saying a while ago you've been watching the team of Zeke goset and Ethan King and in this field they may they may be the youngest team in this field out of all the text messages all the emails all the phone calls I got this week about weather and postponing and everything else I will say I never heard a word out of these guys Zeke was one half of the team that won the angler of the Year points in the north and Ethan was on the third third place team in the South but I want to talk about the two teams that were ahead of Ethan and Fletcher Phillips Rob Le Steve Winslet veteran Anglers on the Alabama Bass Trail and Chris Rutland Kobe Carden probably the all-time winning leaders on the Alabama Bass Trail and then Ethan King and Fletcher Phillips these young men know how to fish they know how to keep their head down and they know how not to get spun out in big- time competition so uh props off to these kids I'm excited to watch them come through the Alabama bastro 100 I say kids they're my son's age so I can I can kind of say that I think Daren is pulling up on a team that is was picked to do really well here Kyle Dorset and uh Justin Atkins a Bassmaster Elite Series angler Justin Atkins so Daran am I right are you pulling up on uh Dorset and Atkins out there yeah we just pulled up on them and they are Troll Motor on 100 chasing fish on on forward facing sonar and I asked them if they don't they do not have any fish yet and he last and I said well how long you going to be around this here he's be here all day but if they don't start biting I'd probably give it 20 more minutes they were definitely on Mission they're looking they were looking they were seeing fish for sure they were casting specifically at fish U they were moving really fast too so I don't know you figured they would with how cold it is and how cold the water temperature is they'd be moving slower but they were certainly chasing fish and making several cast stopping and really working the bait so um you know you can see as of right now Atkins has a rod and Kyle doesn't but I think that's when you're Liv scoping you're looking at one fish there's really the the guy in the back really doesn't have a ton of opportunity right now other than just wait and get the net I I wonder if they're taking turns on who gets to make the cast at the fish or if this is just a spot they're hitting really quickly and going to move but even since we've been sitting in this one area we're spot locked right here they've been all around the boat so we just kind of sat in one spot and they've been all the way up to the rub rail to rub Rail and then now they're you know 20 30 40 yards away so they're moving a ton just working one big deep area down a little bit on the lower end of the lake the lower half of the lake and but like you said these guys have won here before they have a ton of History here and you can guarantee they don't care about the cold they're fishing and they're wanting to win that uh that 25,000 and like you said when you come into these events there's always names who you expect to do good just based off tournament you know past tournaments or their experience on the lake this is certainly one of those teams not always does it happen that those teams are the ones that catch them but if you're local or you've done here you know done good in the past on a lake you do have a lot of pressure going into that Lake because uh your name's been on the leaderboard before and people expect you to continuously do good so when you pile up that pressure he is an Elite Series angler so there's you got that pressure like there's there's some things going on definitely in their mind but they're not slowing down they're wide open casting and now they're chasing fish all about 50 ft out in front of us so very exciting to see hopefully these guys will get on a good pattern and one thing I wanted to mention earlier my I don't know how the mic but we wanted to say we appreciate all the people that are watching on Facebook and YouTube live that helps us a ton so if y'all want to share the videos wherever fast I don't know that's the fastest Troll Motor I've ever seen buddy is uh buddy is a long ways away now in just a few seconds so they're moving but there's a lot of boats if you look in the area um there's a lot of boats off the bank they're all Liv scoping um and honestly they're not even really fishing structure they're just fishing out deep holes like they're just out in the middle of nowhere I think they're probably chasing bait we haven't Atkins was moving so fast I didn't get to talk to them they were you know had them had them like agility knees going look they're in a football practice uh with that troller motor moving but I think they're just chasing fish I heard Luke talking earlier to Zeke about the amount of bait they were seeing that was something that Scott Canterbury brought up earlier was the amount of bait they were seeing and so I would imagine that's what Atkins is following is fish that are following bait or running around with the bait and so it's going to be interesting if he will ever slow down we will ask him that question it's funny how this this the Sport's changing so quickly with forward facing sonar Garmin Liv scope obviously is what is the best that everyone's using and I'm see you can from where we're sitting you can see four boats that are all out in the deadmill lake and the funny thing is this pocket this Creek that we're in it's one of the Creeks that I learned how to fish in and I can remember coming to this Lake really young in the winter time throwing a Shad wrap a repala Shad wrap a dt6 and a little bitty jig I remember fishing all these docks and when we would come in here out off the ends of a lot of these docks there's brush piles and that's what this lake is famous for and in the winter time there's you can see the tips of that brush and you pitch a jig over in it or crank a Shad wrap down real slowly and you'd catch a lot of fish doing it but the funny thing is you can look through here and there's not a single boat on the bank anymore where used to this time of year that's you would that's all you would see there people casting at the ends of those docks and now all the boats that we're seeing is two guys standing on the very front of the boat and so very interesting to see yeah so um we we've covered a couple different Stu of fishing so Canterbury ear and Allan Allan Glasco they were kind of fishing the same area they were doing more like traditional I would say style fishing where they're using crankbaits spinner baits fishing uh fishing the bottom stuff that's contacting the bottom but these guys are Liv scoping I can't tell the exact bait they're using Atkins was using some sort of a white minow bait I couldn't tell what it was he's moving too fast but certainly a small profile um Shad bait on a little jig head I just couldn't tell what it was but the a lot of cranking I've seen a lot of red crank baits and you know we haven't seen any fish catches though so I don't I'm not saying what they're using is wrong but it's just slow day slow bite but wouldn't you say that's fair to say the the fishing has changed in here it looks different now the the over the years has changed yes like from from I'm about years ago in the winter time you won't see all these people just out here in the in the middle of nowhere right it's yeah lot more offshore yeah a lot more offshore now I thought the same so look pins is already a mile away I don't know he's moving a mile in in a in two minutes on the trolling motor he's still searching and so if you if y'all got any more questions we we'll try to answer them and whoever asked that question about the what lure are they using appreciate that question as we get closer I'll definitely get some more baits specifically with a Liv scope CU I know there's a lot of different style baits to use but sounds like we're going to go back over to Miss Kay in the studio we'll get catch up on some of these other boats who are around us but this okay what you got one of the one of the things that I find really interesting when you talk about the Alabama Bass Trail 100 we've talked about the amount of Anglers that don't get spun out they keep things uh between the ears a lot of times that's the most important bait or most important uh lure or tactic that you bring to the lake is can you keep it settled between your ears when you look at the field and I just wrote down about six or seven guys here and I think it's interesting to look at this George Crane competed in the Bassmaster Classic in 201 11 his partner Alan glasow competed in the Bassmaster Classic in 2012 Scott Canterbury former uh Bassmaster Elite Series angler of the Year Justin Atkins he not only is a forestwood Cup winner but he's a current Bassmaster Elite Series angler Justin Hamner Bassmaster Elite Series angler Wesley Gore the latest Alabama bastro angler to make it to the Bassmaster Elite Series Kelly Jay a former Bassmaster Elite Series angler and then Mr West Logan he's not here today because he would be off limits for an npfl event but also fishing the Bassmaster Elite Series so that is a really Stout field of competition not considering the Damen Willis's and Mark Stewarts the Josh Chapel Paul Davis's uh Robble Steve Winslet um the mark mck Tim Hurst I mean if you just don't look at the Alabama Bass Trail regulars that you see on the stage and you consider this field that's why the Alabama bastro 100s are the Elite of the elite uh that's why you have to really bring it and U and I think that was why Scott said what he said Justin Atkins called me the same day too and said the exact same thing is I wish we'd have fished on Saturday I feel like it gives us a a little bit of a head up because we were used to this the bassm classic in uh Harwell one year was seven degrees and they had the same situation with trying to get Vats off the trailer so it is something that you have to be mentally and physically strong for and you'll see a lot of these Anglers these days now I noticed it on social media Russ Lane in the gym getting fit Gerald Swindle doing the cold plunges getting his body ready to get back out on the trail so it's exciting thing to me to watch all of that and then see how these Anglers perform uh especially those that can keep their head down and stay in it and grind through it so um that's real interesting to me so we're going to take a look you know we talk about that Pride batteries uh leaderboard right now Zeke Gosset Ethan King from what we've seen guys we've only covered about I would say 10 or 12 teams and they're currently leading with a little over 13 pounds they've made two coals so that's good for them they missed a fish so we're looking at about eight or nine strikes on their on their lines that they've had today Sam long Jason Atkins had two fish last time we saw Josh Chapel Paul Davis back around N9 o00 they had two fish in the boat Mark condr Ted Paisley they had one fish in the boat um and then James Scott and Brian Meadows had one fish in the boat our first fish catch on camera for the year boat number 25 Troy simbach and Terry mccormic they're out of Tennessee good guys there uh but we are working on getting uh getting everybody back out onto some boats I know Luke is trying to get I think he is trying to um get to Tom Frank and Brian talage I see their tracker in that Creek so I'm not sure that's who he's trying to get to but something tells me that's who he was trying to trying to get to but the as you're looking right now you're seeing the first catch on camera on AB on ABT live uh Mr uh Troy simbach and Terry McCormack getting that first fish on camera uh for Mr Jason this morning so that's really cool uh to be able to see uh that first fish catch and and relatively early in the morning 7:58 Blast Off didn't take place until 7:58 or 7:30 so all right we're going to go back out to Daren he's on a team that just caught a fish so let's see if we can get an update from him little well okayy I the only thing I know is there in a phoenix that's all I can tell so far I don't think we right as we idled up is when they caught it and we're kind of they're Liv scoping so we're staying a little bit back we're going to make our way in now that they've caught one I just got to see where he's casting here so I know how to get out of way they they keep that fish yeah yeah they put in the Box you small we're going to get in close and get their information it is when you're doing this on your live scoping it's a little more difficult to get close to them because they're they're fishing everywhere they're not just fishing down the bank so kind of feel like you're always in the way but guys what's y'all's boat number 919 91 was that that was a keeper that was yes sir was that how many y'all got that's our first that was your first one all right there we go we pulled up perfect time y might be bringing us some good luck yeah maybe so are we dead in the middle of the way uh let me get can I get behind you yes sir okay let me do that that was the most respectful uh yes y'all are dead in the middle of the way I've heard that yet he wanted to say yes get out of the way but they they [Music] [Music] refrain how are y'all doing today it's cold yeah had a couple had a couple cups of coffee yeah hey it's warm now compared to take off yeah I know it so there's like a specific structure y are fishing or you just Liv scoping chasing fish just a drop off just a drop oh there no okay [Music] what oh for [Music] fish guess they're doing something this is Lander in the party I can't tell what what kind of boat this is I can't tell who this is but I do see Lander's Mard logo on there so there you go slick and [Music] [Music] brm Luke Duncan I have been covering several guys I just covered your buddy Atkins who was running 220 M hour on his TR motor fastest Troll Motor record I've ever seen but I hear that you have now found someone that's got five fish limit I have I have found uh Tom Frank and Bryant talage certified fish catch as we all know and I have also found the ice though and uh and and the back of this Creek these guys are fishing this around this bridge but the back of this Creek past them is a sheet of ice and as we were idling in here there was Ice probably 25 to 30 yards off the bank out towards the creek channel it's crazy but right over their shoulder and I don't know if you can see it or not past that bridge but it is truly uh I mean I don't think it's thck enough to walk across but uh it's it's definitely not a sight you see on the cousa river very often it is it's crazy but uh Tom said they got five for five pounds or so small limit their lives scoping around a little bit finesse fishing the water is really shallow back here there's a there's a hole where they're sitting we can actually see the bottom right here where we're at water a lot clearer back here but yeah definitely uh Daran I still haven't found a breakfast casserole or a brunch casserole even as we get closer to 11 o' but I have found the ice looking you'll find it eventually you know you have found some good fish catches so I'll give you that but look some of us just got good boat drivers that's the end of the day is you you end up you end up drawing a good boat driver and that's the deal he also had us a cappuccino and uh [Applause] what yeah Luke's boat driver put him on fish ours we got a good breakfast in and a warm a warm belly now so I don't know which one for TV know I will say that I I appreciate you saying that Daran because I am the boat driver so I did I did uh it's kind of kind of an MVP today be honest feeling a little Patrick Mahomes out here making moves happen while you're snacking down on breakfast casserol Britain and I team Luke and Britain getting it done did you just call yourself the Patrick Mahomes of boat drivers I did I did I said I was feeling very Patrick Mahomes is I got moves dude I've I've proven that today we had we had a camera battery we had to run back we come back to the leaders I mean have it going on and now I'm over here by the stillery where we saw the karaoke go go down last night and Britain and I if we stand here long enough we we might get the microphones fired up up there and do a do at here in a little bit I think we're getting a look right now at at you casserole Craig we are right now we are hey I feel like that clip's going to be rolled over and over time and time again honestly if that goes down in the ABT 100 Hall of Fame I'd be fine with that it's fitting very fitting the only man to wear a tank top and drop a dirty 30 in an Alabama Bass Trail and a win on Gunners real and eat a breakfast gastoll on live Daren Craig ladies and gentlemen that's right I'm fine with that that's they need to put that as my T right here put my name right there titles and put breakfast canc all King underneath we found that well look on on all seriousness we've got um you're on a different boat now and you said y are a lot shallower now but going back to just trying to rain me and you in just a touch earlier you were on some fish catching going on and they were just I'm I'm hearing what you're saying but they they were certainly fishing out deeper and y'all have left them now but do you think like you left them F catching fish right yeah they were and they were they were scoping fish and and still seeing a lot of fish there were getting to be several boats in their area kind of running around through there but yeah it was it was kind of a typical winter deal for me and actually I I'm surprised there aren't more boats in the area they're in it's a it's just a depression with a ton of bait and a really good you know really good looking amount of bait and uh just a deep hole right off the creek Channel that's it's surrounded by shallow bars so it's just perfect but was interesting Zeke said those fish weren't there in practice at all and they decided to start there this morning and and they had shown up with this cold weather but uh you know Tom and and Brian are back here close to a bridge it's really it's really clear back here uh shallow flat but there's I can see isolated cover back here and they got a little deeper hole by this bridge but towards the back of this Creek uh so a little different approach but probably some bait hanging around this bridge and large mountain spots to go with it but just a small limit from what they said lots of boats in this area though for sure right here around the I20 Bridge we're seing a bunch of boats down here too but just not a lot of not a ton of fish kitchen honestly um we had one boat that had two fish and two boats that had one fish but really we haven't had there hasn't been a lot of action down here and there's a lot of Liv scoping going on uh I don't know if you heard earlier but just the change of scenery from what this Lake used to be fishing the the brush off the edge of these docks or the ends of these docks slow cranking on or slow rolling a spinner bait I can just remember growing up fish in that way and catching a lot of fish and the winter time and the whole thing's just changed now all these boats comeing in the same pocket they're just everyone's going out deep and fishing you know light scoping throwing something real small at them so it's interesting to see the change but we're going to make a little run we've got several guys uh outside this streek kind of on the main lake so we're going to go hunt some of these guys down and see if they've got any fishing updates but uh be safe out there Darion he's going to make a run and we're still here on Tom and Brian watching these guys on the back of this Creek as far back honestly as they can go unless they want to bust through the ice with their with their Phoenix but I don't think that's going to be the case today and it is interesting what what darion's saying there and I heard him say that earlier that you know this Lake's really been known as a cranking Lake shallow cranking and and it still is man I I think you know lives scope obviously has dominated so many things so many events and it has changed the way we approach fishing it has changed our efficiency it's changed a lot of things but I think that with these weather conditions the reason we're seeing it so predominant is a lot of these fish with this with these extreme cold conditions in my opinion Post front conditions they suspend they don't get up there on the bank so we're not seeing as much of that today as I really expected to the raffle of Shad rra bite the dt6 bite is you know legendary on this lake at times of course you also have that low water too so it's not helping that shallow cover cuz a lot of it's up on the bank it's what Britain and I have been talking about you know you can see a lot of goodlooking stuff you'd like to throw at but it's 3 ft out of the water right now but the water temperature is not helping that that shallow bite as well right here where we're sitting 39.1 that's what we're showing back here what with a lot of ice looking at uh weather apps on my phone here we got 31° feels like 23 is what my phone's saying right now but it I will be honest with you compared to this morning when I send all 100 teams out there on Logan Martin from the takeoff boat it feels like I'm at the beach right now I'm going to be honest it feels so much better back here in this Creek we're kind out of the wind Sun's beating down on us I've got enough layers on that it's uh it's actually not bad back here at all now this morning I didn't think I was going to survive I'll be honest I was one of those I could have sat in the truck and complained about it for sure because it it was it did not feel good first thing this morning takeoff but it but it did start warming up pretty quick and I think when Kay made the and her team made the call to to push this to Sunday today was you know obviously a lot warmer than yesterday and it was going to get above freezing and we're we're almost right there at it um you know here at 11:00 so with a lot of lot of time left for these Anglers before that 3:30 first flights due in 3:30 weigh in's going to start there at Lincoln Landing so really a lot of times left a lot of things are going to change might not see too much of a water temperature warm up but you never know that sun beating down can certainly change things at times if you're sitting at home watching and you think man that looks like a good time out there come to the wind this afternoon bundle up come on out we're going to have a good time at Lincoln Landon and and if you've never experience linol landed I'll just tell you it's one of the nicest facilities I I've been fortunate enough to bass fish all over this this great nation and it is without question one of the nicest facilities I've ever seen that is built around tournament fishings very cool so uh if you get a chance come out and see us this afternoon we're going to be handing out a lot of big checks some trophies have a really good time this afternoon link Atlanta Darion might be there he might have a whole Buffet set up by then all kind of food you never [Music] no it's amazing to see what the city of Lincoln has done with that facility it's my first time this morning and man it's impressive so again weigh is going to start at 3:30 second flight do in 3:45 third flight 4 and then our last flight do in at 4:15 the scales will close at 5 we going to weigh in almost 100 teams first place 25,000 not counting all the bonus money so if they win in a phoenix it's going to be over $32,000 going to the winter today got Garmin bonuses so many different things up for grabs this afternoon certainly a challenging event to start the year but man I you know we we talked last night as a production team it's it's challenging but it's a storyline for us it's it's so much fun to watch and and I'm I'm such a fan of this Sport and it's so cool to watch how each and every angler attacks adverse conditions and you know I don't fish a lot in January because I I'm I'm just I can't slow down enough a lot of times but it's really cool to watch how each and every angler out here is attacking it today how they take care of their tackles what they were doing to you know prepare their boats for these conditions it's it's been really interesting to see and I hope you folks at home have enjoyed it as much as we have today this morning you right we passed y this morning I was had a plan to come back sounds like I got my buddy Jason going to join us here a little dual box action Jason are you I got your buddy Mr Walt Roberts Mr bait fuel himself what's the game plan right now we just going to grind man that's all we're doing is just fishing real slow down these banks around these rocks and grind away and hope we can get three more good deal I saw y'all made a run up River not a or up creek I should say not much going on up there and just decided to come back one we just got one okay good I know y'all kind of started in this area right here this morning we did and I caught a bunch here in practice but it hadn't paid for us yet cool this might be the time right now we'll slide back and watch your fish thank you for your time thank you know everything else is freezing trust me including this Creek well that's I we ran through the ice just a minute ago we uh we have been put some crazy stuff there for sure you know Jason that's something that you don't uh you don't get to do in a phoenix very often is bust through the ice yeah yeah okay the we stay well we got Mr Daran breakfast casserole C grg coming in tell us who you're with bud I love that intro every time uh we found Wesley Gore and Brian Stiffler but they are on the hunt they got one fish they're zooming and booming and they're live scoping and uh we said y going to be around here for a minute he said no so I don't know we have been chasing them they they're obviously a team to look for on this Lake and you know another one we talked about having pressure you got you got a little pressure cuz it's like you do good on so they're running around and doing their thing we've we've kind of hopped behind them for 30 minutes now just kind of chasing them trying to get them ran down and what we're seeing down the lower end is these guys are definitely fishing these deeper drains um out in the middle in the mouth of these Pockets anything running up beside an island or an underground hump or something like that anything underwater not underground underwater uh you can tell that that's like definitely a pattern that's going on on this end of the lake we just saw four or five boats kind of in a cluster doing the same thing and then now these guys are running really really fast moving around so Liv scoping is changing the game down on the lower end of this Lake I see no one cranking and what's funny is Scott can this morning said that he bets that the tournament would be one one cranking up sha he said and I think he spelled the way that he said sha is not how I don't think it's spelled I think he ended that spelling with an a sha he said they'd be caught up Shallow on a crankbait and I don't I definitely don't doubt the man he's got a ton of experience as much as probably anybody in this tournament on this Lake um but it is interesting to see he's got a lot of Young Guns we then some of the names that we've called out today Are Young Guns or or guys that have been caught them in the last 2 three years really really well and they're they're all liveing so interesting to see how fishing is changing but especially on a lake that's used you know used to be dominated a certain way and now it's looking a little [Applause] different Daren I bet you won't tails shot Canary he spelled shallow wrong what do you want to bet I bet you wrong buddy look here I wouldn't even when he asked me I heard you said that you're making fun I said D was making fun I a it's how I was T you guys get paid extra I think we should don't rewind the camera and just go off my work I would look if Scott canbury said give me your money I F he just want I'm giving my money I didn't even an arguing You' say roll I did tell funny Scott K story earlier today it wasn't on camera but uh I did a photo shoot one time with uh Halo and a couple of those American Bait Works Brands and Canterbury I was in the boat with them we were on Gunnersville and it was might have been it might have been February but I think that it was in January and he pulled out a frog and said I guarantee you I catch one today on a frog and it wasn't quite as cold as it is today but it was it was in the 20s that morning I remember that and uh Scott Canterbury caught one on a frog on Gunnersville in January or February and it was basically as cold as it is right now he caught one that day on a frog I'll never forget that unbelievable so to your question no I would not tell him that he spelled shallow wrong no I bet you won't I know you won't actually speaking of shallow that that's what we're watching right now with Tom and and Brian it's really interesting man and there there's a bite that certainly goes down in the back of creeks in the winter time but we we can literally see with our own eyes here and I don't know how well the camera is picking it up but the creek Channel there fishing it is you know I'm sitting over almost on the ri wrap against some ice here on the cway one it's a foot of water hooked up well Tom's hooked up lost it had one there and they lost it but there's a lot of shallow brush on this flat we can see but we can see the actual Creek Channel and they're fishing that drop off and as we were coming in I was asking them where we needed to position and Tom sent me over here to this side because there was a rock pile he had been focusing on and I guess that's just you know Gathering heat in this clear water but uh super clear super clear like I said you can actually you don't have to guess what he's fishing because we can actually see where the the creek Channel falls off and they're dragging Drop shots throwing jerk baits throwing jigs to isolated cover and live scoping a little bit as well but pretty neat to see no cranking though Darion no crank I mean we can get close anyhow we get close for look at Brian Talman Tom Frank two great Anglers they're fishing back here by the stillery where we had some dinner last night great establishment here on Logan Martin and if I hang around here a little bit longer I'm GNA slide up here and give me another one of them hamburger steaks I had last night I'll show Darion up of just take a little second and break it down for all the action and thank you for tuning in this morning staying tuned in at home all week uh we've been having a great week here on the lake I know that uh you've been in the nice Comforts of home and nice and warm well it started out this morning at about 14° so it has been super cold the Anglers have been really uh working hard to do their best to to fight the elements and uh really it hasn't been a distraction for most of them we've had a few guys that have just said you know hey it's going to be really cold and we're really going to whine about it but here today most of the guys that are doing well so far have not really focused on the cold at all they've just put their head down and started fishing so we made our run down to the choc Locka Creek area we started in here we've been in here all day we've seen a lot of boats kind of moving around bouncing around trying some different spots uh we started on one spot and three or four boats pulled up on that spot right away first thing this morning the first fish catch of H 2024 goes to Troy simbeck and Terry McCormick they are the first fish catch of 2024 for the ABT 100 series they did catch a fish uh right as soon as we pulled up on them this morning and we bounced around a couple other teams in there and they all caught fish as well so it's been good this morning to see them catching fish and kind of what they've been doing is really taking their time and uh running some Rapa Shad wraps working other small crankbaits we've seen a little bit of the dinki rig and they've been working shallow clay points and uh those little rocky Banks so the water kind of is in a draw down phase right now water temperature sitting at about 39° so it's cold and uh these guys are really taking their time to work it hard but here this Lake's full and chalk full of of bass and the guys are catching them so I think when it comes to we in time today the guys that were in chakalaka Creek are definitely going to bring some to the scale today so who's up next and let's see uh what you've got going on I think it goes to you Daren yeah man I'm down uh down further down the lake we started in Cropwell this morning and probably covered six or so boats pretty quickly um in the same area and really slow start we saw Canterbury fishing um earlier this morning and like was said earlier this week he made a comment on a podcast and it was um essentially he was saying in his ground that it's cold y'all we signed up for it let's go do it and um that's part of the game of fishing it's the same thing in the summertime when it gets hot it's like you know sometimes it feels too hot to be out there and you want to hey let's start this one earlier or whatever but it's like we signed up for that we know what we signed up for um the fish are still going to bite and and it's the same for the entire playing field we paid $1,000 for this entry fee we have the chance to win $25,000 for the tournament and I think it's up to $35,000 after the all the bonuses so a lot of money on the table and you know we saw a little bit of old school we saw canbury fish and old school style and George Crane and Alan glasow fish in old school but a lot of offshore demii rig livescope type fishing and not a ton of fish catching yet where we were um it sounded like there was a lot more action up on y'all's in of the lake so we started in Cropwell we made it down to Rabbit branch and a little a little lower than rabbit Branch we've made it but um again we probably seen 14 to 16 boats today fishing and gotten up close enough to them to talk and some of them just didn't have fish so we bounc around to the next guy but want to say I appreciate all of you who have tuned on to Facebook live today YouTube live thank you for your comments and man that's going to be the end of my wrap up for today I'm going to pitch it over to my good buddy Luke no breakfast casserole Duncan thank you casserole Craig I appreciate you we're in the back of blueeye Creek and and this is where we've spent the majority of our day we were covering Zeke Gosset Ethan King we got to cover Tom prank Brian talage there several other teams in here that we weren't able to catch up with but I had to end the bush light Roundup today if you can look over my shoulder here we found the ice the water temperature is 38 in here but we're at the back uh back here in blue which is not really far off the river Channel close to the I20 bridge and it is a sheet of ice the entire back of this Creek it's crazy and and going back out towards the main river Channel it runs 25 30 yards off the bank so if you want to look at what these 100 uh Alabama Bass Trail Teams are dealing with today this is a perfect look at it they've had equipment issues uh certainly some mechanical issues we've had battery issues today the weather has been a challenge but like uh Jason and Daren both alluded to there the teams that have put their head down ignored the fact that this weather is brutal they've pushed through they're the ones that are going to come up come out on top today and and we saw that with Zeke Gossett and Ethan Who We Believe are you know way up there on that Pride leaderboard of course we don't get to cover everybody here on ABT live but they're certainly in the mix to win this thing today and they they said we asked them hey is the cold B and you not at all they weren't even paying any attention their live well pumps would not work and they had to use a weighin bag to actually feel their live wells on their first keeper that's dedication and that's the that mentality that canterberry talked about spoke to earlier this week that it takes to take home a trophy and a big check on a day like today uh appreciate each and every one of y'all tuning in it's been a lot of fun man I love seeing I've said it multiple times today but I love see these teams and how they attack this fishery in these adverse conditions we appreciate everybody tuning in and I'm going to send it back to Miss Kay who probably has been laughing at us with snot and uh you know Frozen beards all day time and uh when you look at the field and you see why they they love fishing the Alabama Bass 100 because they can pay a decent entry fee for a big return and have limited cost in travel because they stay within the state of Alabama so I appreciate those guys and their loyalty to the Alabama Bass Trail I appreciate all the supportive comments and uh phone calls and text messages that we received this week postponing a tournament is never easy it's not just a one- day all of a sudden decision we looked at things for a long time but I do appreciate all of the support that we've received
